In addition to Google and Diadiem, here are some HCMC political maps that show the divisions (district/ward/etc.) at street level.

Thanks to Slowhatch for interpreting the river map! Couldn't get much out of this leg (Cai Be's too small a town to have maps searchable on Google), but we do know the Pit Stop was opposite the Cai Be Church.

If anyone can help with pinpointing the locations please chip in!

Phnom Penh orientation, from the wiki:
Quote
All of Phnom Penh's streets are numbered, although some major thoroughfares have names as well. The scheme is simple: odd-numbered streets run north-south, the numbers increasing as you head west from the river, and even numbers run west-east, increasing as you head south (with some exceptions, e.g. the west side of the Boeung Kak lake). House numbers, however, are quite haphazard. Don't expect houses to be numbered sequentially in a street; you might even find two completely unrelated houses with the same number in the same street.
Many of the numbered streets have names as well; here's an index (click to zoom; the site also has a good PP interactive map). Another map with specialized pages for the tourist areas is here.

A nice (French interface) PP map here: there's an English version, but it's not as interactive for some reason (click "Plan en Flash" for the zoom-and-scroll type map).

I'm using Bank Gothic, they seemed to have switched to this one since TAR 14...

College's been relentless, so I'm falling behind on the maps! Here's last week's for Ho Chi Minh City... (Thanks especially to Boingo!)

The helmet shop was at the Russian Market. First, take this photo, enlarge it to original size, then look for the stall with the helmets and 203 above the door. Second, compare Puddin's final sale cap to the photo in the middle of this blog page; same stall, same phone number. Also, fwiw, a simple map of the Russian Market.

A map of Souk Madinat Jumeirah and the Atlantis water park (both pdf). The ziggurat looks like a clever idea: you ride a conveyer up inside, then take one of several rides from there.

Although the Hitta site mentioned previously has adopted Mapjack streetview, it doesn't extend as far as Haggvik. It does have slightly better satellite resolution though, and a neat 3D function similar to Bing. Compare the TAR6 cap below to Vasby Bog, just west of Haggvik station.

Neobie:

I note your marking of the Cornelius Lely Monument on the Afsluitdijk causeway. I have been doing a lot of research on the Afsluitdijk and, in spite of the fact that I think few care about these type of details, I offer this information:

1. I believe that World Race Productions has erroneously labeled the Cornelius Lely Statue as a monument. There are not many references to either a statue or a monument there, but the majority clearly indicates that this is the statue completed in 1933.
2. I was incorrect in labeling the Lookout Tower on the Afsluitdijk as a monument. More references do say that it is a monument, but the majority consider it to be a lookout tower. I did see one notation of when it was contructed but did ont write it down. It was either the 1960s or 1970s but build in the style of the 1930s.

Then I went back to my tape of this episode and discovered that the Statue and the Lookout Tower are on opposite sides of the causeway. There is an exit both ways to a built-out parking lot and there is a connecting footbridge so that people ehading north can cross to to statue and people heading south can cross to the Lookout Tower. The clue was at the statue. I do not know how those exits are marked, but it could easily say "Monument" to cover them both.

Some stuff besides google:
  • The Tallinn site uses GIS mapping from the Land Board, so it's a little slow, but the aerials have more definition and you can search for addresses and features (like bogs raba)
  • The Artmap mentioned earlier shows the Old Town well (just don't copy it to the web, the author is particular about rights)
  • Digital Tallinn has a little applet (click on Virtual Tour) that shows panos throughout Old Town

In addition to GE/streetview, Mapy and Praha Mesto (city server map) both offer good detail and interactivity, and Virtual Travel and Virtual Prague are good places for panos.

Definitely walking, since there's a bridge halfway between the detour and the tram station.
