Well we should get some rating data tomorrow, but I do have one piece of info that does sort of apply.

DVR viewership is on the rise with the public use typically between 15 to 25% of the audience who watch not when it airs, but at their own time.

Unfortunately this doesn't ad typical ad revenue to a show (as Neilsen has reported less then 5% watch any of the commercials).  But eventually (if not currently) product placement will generate revenue based on DVR use, and most importantly how close to the actual air time people watch that program.

Here is the good news.  Out of all programming  Amazing Race has the 2nd best ratio of DVR use during the actual day its broadcast (only Dancind with the Stars Result show did better) with 69% of its DVR audience watching the show on the same day.  So if TAR has in its contract payment for product placement, then they will get a good (in comparison to other shows) chunk of chance.  The closer to the actual air time the happier advertisers are.

And for the Fall season TAR 6th highest performing show for CBS with DVR use (so again not a lot of revenue is generated here), but it all helps and since networks know that more and more people view television in this medium, the better you overall performance (which is very good for CBS) and its percentage on the same day (exceptional for CBS) are key points.

ANd here is a shout out to the greatest use of effective product placement this show has ever had.  Welcome Google, it fits perfectly into the show and of course generates additional ad revenue.

I found the ratings data, and it seems that DVRs have definitely taken an effect, not the best start... but it's obviously not gonna get cancelled if it can still pull these numbers!  ;D

CBS – The Amazing Race (season premiere)
Viewers: 9.42 million (#1), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#2)

CBS – The Amazing Race (season premiere)
Viewers: 9.15 million (#2), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#1t)

This averages to 9.29 million and a 2.7 demo.

Yeah this is disappointing.

2nd lowest opening performance for TAR.  And that demo (for TAR) is quite low.

Now to the positive.

Still highest demo performance for CBS.

60 min 13.08  2.1
Cold Case 10.8  2.5
Unit  8.31 2.2

TARAsia Fan:
The fact that TAR was #1 in 18-49 is what CBS wants. The numbers may have been down from the fall, but you don't have an NFL game leading in this time around. CBS will still take those numbers. Plus, TAR has had a nice stable timeslot for a few seasons. That's helping.

TAR did help CBS win the night over ABC and a new "Housewives" episode to boot.

--- Quote ---Sunday was a pretty quiet night in the Nielsens, with ABC's "Desperate Housewives" somewhat soft and no network breaking out of the pack.

CBS led the night with a 6.4 rating/10 share, beating out ABC's 6.0/10. NBC finished third in households at 3.4/6, but FOX, 3.3/5, had a few more total viewers. The CW drew a 1.0/2.

ABC led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 3.3 rating. FOX finished second at 2.7, beating out CBS' 2.3. NBC averaged 1.3 and The CW 0.5.

CBS jumped on top at 7 p.m. with "60 Minutes," 8.3/14. "America's Funniest Home Videos," 4.6/8, came in second for ABC. "Dateline" drew a 3.2/5 for NBC. The conclusion of the Daytona 500 and an "American Dad" rerun averaged 2.6/4 for FOX. The CW aired a "Jericho" rerun and the start of the James Bond movie "Goldeneye."

The premiere of the latest "Amazing Race," 5.5/9, kept CBS on top at 8 p.m. A second hour of "Dateline" improved to 5.4/9 on NBC. A rerun of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" took third for ABC. "The Simpsons," 3.8/7, and "King of the Hill," 3.0/5, were fourth for FOX. "Goldeneye" earned a 1.1/2 for The CW.

ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with "Desperate Housewives," 8.6/13. CBS dropped to second with "Cold Case," 6.6/10. FOX moved up to third with "Family Guy," 4.1/6, and "American Dad," 3.5/5, beating the conclusion of the miniseries "XIII" on NBC. The CW's movie finished with a 1.3/2.

"Brothers & Sisters," 6.1/10, led the 10 p.m. hour for ABC. "The Unit" scored a 5.1/9 for CBS, while "XIII" finished with a modest 2.5/4 on NBC.

Ken TAR's Direct competition (which tied in the adult demo) on ABC was a repeat.

While it is true viewer levels across teh board were down, so its quite possible that in the coming weeks we will see a build in ratings.
