I guess we'll find out who all the partners are during the name dropping tonight.

One team we already know is Chuck and Julianne. I thought she wasn't dancing this season. Probably changed her mind because she is dancing with her boyfriend.

Nope. She announced that she would not do both DWTS season 8 and season 9, but wasn't sure which one she would do.

An interesting article:

'Dancing With the Stars' goes for the 'unpredictable'

Friends, family and felons are the dominant themes on the latest installment of ABC's hit Dancing With the Stars.
The celebrity ballroom hoofer contest opens its eighth season March 9 (8 ET/PT) with singer Jewel facing off against her husband, professional rodeo champ Ty Murray — the show's first celebrity couple competing in the same season. DWTS popular dance professional Julianne Hough will be paired with her boyfriend, country singer Chuck Wicks, and DWTS pros Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy just got engaged.

The show also will feature Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, at 17 the youngest competitor to date.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," she says.

Pro athletes have won four of the past five DWTS crowns; three others have been runners-up. Johnson says she hopes her athletic training offsets any dance angst. "It'll help, but this isn't in my comfort zone," she says.

Reality TV prankster Steve-O, former NFL star Lawrence Taylor and rapper/actress Lil' Kim also are scheduled to perform. Steve-O, 34, was placed on probation last year after admitting to possessing cocaine. Kim, 34, was jailed for 11 months on a 2005 federal perjury charge. In the 1990s, Taylor, 50, pleaded guilty to income tax evasion and was charged with possessing cocaine.

"We've gone for some unpredictable people," says executive producer Conrad Green. "Once you have someone with one leg (Heather Mills), a deaf person (Marlee Matlin) and an 82-year-old (Cloris Leachman), it's hard to push the boundaries. An air of wildness doesn't hurt."

"One thing nice about this show is you see people in a different light," Green says.

That doesn't mean TV's No. 2-ranked series isn't difficult to cast, says ABC senior talent producer Deena Katz. Scores of celebs want on, but mixing and matching them, achieving the right chemistry and a 15-week time commitment weed out prospects, Katz says.

"It's a jigsaw puzzle," she says. "You can't always go with a supermodel or someone from a boy band. There is something about football players, though."

Rounding out the celeb cast:

•Actor Gilles Marini, 33.

•Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, 58.

•Actress Denise Richards, 37.

•Comedian David Alan Grier, 53.

•Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O'Dell, 42.

•Singer Belinda Carlisle, 50.

Dancing’s Season Eight Cast Is Revealed!

In a new twist, the season eight cast of Dancing with the Stars was revealed during commercial breaks in between ABC’s Sunday night primetime lineup.

The “namedropping” of the 13 contestants began at the eight o’clock hour when Extreme Makeover: Home Edition aired, and continued throughout the telecasts of Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters.

For the first time on the show, a celebrity couple — singer Jewel and her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray — will compete against each other. In another first, two-time Dancing champ-turned-country-singer Julianne Hough will compete with her boyfriend, country singer Chuck Wicks.

“It’s the most diverse cast we’ve had,” Deena Katz, Dancing’s Senior Talent Producer tells PEOPLE. “The women are phenomenal and the men are such great characters.”

“Julianne is the cutest thing you’ll ever meet and she’s one of the toughest teachers,” says Katz. “I keep warning Chuck, ‘you see this loving side, but she is tough.’”

Real-life pro couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff, who got engaged last December, will compete against each other with their respective celebrity partners.

Rounding out the celebrity lineup will be the youngest contestant ever on the show, Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson, 17. Also ready to rumba are pop star Belinda Carlisle, actress Denise Richards, former NFL star Lawrence Taylor, rapper Lil’ Kim, Jackass star Steve-O, Apple computer co-founder Steve Wozniak, actors David Alan Grier and Gilles Marini, and Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O’Dell.

An ABC spokesperson says the remaining professional dancer/celebrity pairings will be announced on Thursday, February 12.

Pairing predictions, anyone?

I'm gonna take a stab at guessing on a couple of the pairs

We already know one...

Chuck/Julianne

My guesses at some of the pairs are...

Shawn/Derek
Lil' Kim/Maksim
Denise/Mark
Jewel/Alec
Ty/Karina
Lawrence/Cheryl
Steve-O/Lacey
Nancy/Tony
Belinda/Corky
Gilles/Edyta
David/Kym

There are supposed to be two or three new pro dancers so I don't know who comes back and who doesn't.

I would think with her gymnastics experience, Shawn Johnson would do well, although I think Nastia Liukin might have made a better choice instead of Shawn.

Steve Wozniak might be one of the first to go.

I can see Jewel staying in for a while. She has a solid fan base.

Nancy O'Dell is an intriguing choice.

Denise Richards is this season's Kim Kardashian. She can easily be out early due to angry female fans.

Steve-O is a wild card. The man has lit his genitals live on national TV and has also stapled them to his leg. He just might do it live in front of Bruno. I think Steve-O is funny, but he's too crazy for this show.

LT is a guy who is probably doing the show to promote his celebrity golf appearances.

Lil Kim may try to stab a fellow opponent on stage. She's also crazy.

The others I have no feel for.

Anyone who has seen Shawn Johnson and Lawrence Taylor (age 50) perform in their sport knows that these two are people who are extremely quick and agile. Look at what Jason Taylor (age 35) and Warren Sapp (age 37) have accomplished. I think Lawrence Taylor will win if given the right partner and the same is true of Shawn (right for her would be Derek Hough or Mark Ballas). Come March 9 and we will see who is coachable and who can do what.

ap,

Having seen LT recently, the man has had problems walking stemming from his hard hits in the 1980's and 1990's. I differ on your opinion that he's agile. Maybe back in the 1980's, but not now. He had trouble walking the last time I saw him at a golf tournament about six months ago.

Denise Richards’s Dancing Strategy - Avoid Embarrassment

Denise Richards called her last foray into reality TV It’s Complicated. She may want to call her next venture It’s Scary.

“My biggest fear is just forgetting everything right before going on live, that’s what I’m scared of,” the actress tells PEOPLE of her new role as contestant on the eighth season of Dancing With the Stars. “All I hope is that I don’t embarrass my girls!”

Daughters Sam, 4, and Lola, 3, will be cheering on Richards, 37, throughout the competition. “I let the girls stay up a bit later when the show is on,” she says. “It’s popcorn night at our house.”

Although Richards says she’s “flexible and coordinated,” she will be put to the test with pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “I’m completely out of my element because I’ve never danced before. Never!” she says. “I just met (Maks) this morning and I’m really excited that he’s my partner. He’s an amazing, amazing dancer. I told him he’s got his work cut out for him, but it’ll be fun.”

As for the training that begins next week, Richards says, “I heard it’s pretty intense but I’m prepared to put the work in.”

The new season of DWTS premieres March 9 on ABC.

Karina & Maks: DWTS All About Popularity

Back when Steve-O was stapling various body parts together and intentionally getting punched in the face on Jackass, the idea of the crazy stunt guy twirling about on the dance floor would've seemed nuts.

It still might seem nuts, but newly-engaged couple Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, two of Dancing With the Stars' pros, say Steve-O will be a fun one to keep your eye on this season.

"Steve-O is definitely someone to watch," Karina told OK! at Club mur.mur at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City on Feb. 7. "I think you’ll be excited, he’s a character."

"I heard that he was a trained circus clown so he’ll physically be able to do a lot of things," adds Maks.

So could that training, or other skills akin to dancing, be an unfair advantage over other contestants like singer Jewel or Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who might have little to no dancing background?

"The show has definitely showcased that it’s not a dance competition in itself, it’s also a personality contest, and popularity," Karina explains to OK!. "Having a big fan base plays a big part."

"I’m pretty sure Cloris Leachman last year [didn’t have experience] but, she lasted like, what seven weeks?" chimes in Maks.

"I think personality plays a huge part. I mean, they have to be willing to spend hours in the studio, and their attitude, and approach to it. If they have fun, the audience will have fun with them," adds Karina.

As for the show itself, the couple revealed that there are going to be some fun changes around the set... or so they think!

"The rumor is that we are going to have an extra celebrity couple, instead of having 12 couples, we’ll have 13," says Karina.

Once again, Maks has more to add to his real-life partner's explanation, proving they work well together on and off the set.

"There is going to be something called 'the dance off.' The bottom two couples are going to be dancing off for the judges, to see who the judges want to win, some crazy stuff like that. We have no idea," he admits. "We’ve been busy on the tour for the past two and a half months."

Soon enough the pros will be finishing up their tour and flying out to meet the "star" half of their dance equations.

"I’m looking forward to finding out who my celebrity is!" gushes Karina.

We can't wait either!

EXCLUSIVE: Kristi Yamaguchi Thinks Steve-O Might Be "the Weakest" on DWTS

Dancing With the Stars champ Kristi Yamaguchi thinks Steve-O could be the first to go next season.

"I think he might be the weakest of the whole bunch," she tells Usmagazine.com. "We know he's fearless, but we'll have to see if he's smooth as well."

Still, the Jackass star's wacky personality "might be one that people want to see, so they might vote to keep him on."

As for who could take the crown, that's "hard to say," Yamaguchi says. "I think Lil' Kim. She's a performer."

Yamaguchi is also into gymnast Shawn Johnson, a fellow Olympian.

"She's young and she has the performance and competitive [aspect] as well," she says. "I think she has a lot of potential to do well, but who knows!"

And don't count out football player Lawrence Taylor, who has "quite a personality, and I think [people will] either love him or hate him" the season-six champ tells Us. But, "football players do really well on the show."

Yamaguchi says the couples this year will bring a new dynamic. Ty Murray is competing against wife Jewel, while Julianne Hough is dancing with her beau, country singer Chuck Wick.

"I think the chemistry will be fun," Yamaguchi says.

Which New Dancing Pair Has Maksim Keeping Mum?

Dancing with the Stars' lineup of Season 8 celebs has been released, and fan-fave pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy finds himself happily hooked up with actress/reality star Denise Richards. TVGuide.com sat down with Maksim on the set of Good Morning America, where he met Denise for the first time, to get his thoughts on some of this season's other celebs.

TVGuide.com: How does it feel to be back competing on Dancing with the Stars?
Maksim Chmerkovskiy: We're very happy, especially in this economy, that we get a job. It's a little bit of a whirlwind because we literally finished our last day of the tour yesterday, in Philly. Some of the people already flew out to meet their celebrities, and this is my meeting [with Denise]. We start rehearsals [Feb. 10].

TVGuide.com: Did you get to indulge in any pet projects during your time off?
Chmerkovskiy: I didn't have time off. I choreographed the tour, which went to 38 cities, and I was also the dance captain in charge of all the injuries and replacing people... . It was a crazy experience, and a lot of work. But it's fine. I'm 29; I'll relax when I'm 50.

TVGuide.com: How excited are you to be paired with Denise?
Chmerkovskiy: Very. Very. Things are happening up here [in my head], as to what we're going to do for our first dance... . I'm picking up on all the things she's been saying about her flexibility and the Pilates. Most of the things that are difficult for the celebrities are moving their legs and arms in different directions at the same time, to the music.

TVGuide.com: Coordination is important. [Olympic gymnast] Shawn Johnson might have the athleticism and Belinda Carlisle and Lil' Kim may have rhythm, but...
Chmerkovskiy: Lil' Kim is going to be up for a challenge, I think. We'll see. The cast is as diverse as it's ever been. All jokes aside, there are some people that I would probably not want to be paired up with. I lucked out with Denise.

TVGuide.com: What sort of unique challenges face Shawn Johnson, who is just 4-foot-10?
Chmerkovskiy: I actually think her main challenge is that she's so young [age 17] in a big girl's world, so to speak. Her challenge will be to spice things up if the judges say that she's too quiet and calm. But we all saw her at the Olympics — she's amazing and focused and determined. A very hard worker.

TVGuide.com: She could break into a tumbling pass in the middle of a Paso Doble!
Chmerkovskiy: Oh, she could do a cha-cha on her hands! We're kind of guessing that she'll be paired up with Mark [Ballas], and he's crazy with the [choreography].

TVGuide.com: Some are speculating that dancing as a team could be tough on Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks, her country singer-boyfriend. But I think if DWTS has shown us anything, it's that it cultivates romance. They could come out of this stronger.
Chmerkovskiy: I don't want to start the season with a usual Maks rant, so I'm going to plead the fifth on that pairing!

Dancing's Maks: My Kids with Karina Will 'Be Rock Stars'

Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be known as the "bad boy of the ballroom" on ABC's hit Dancing with the Stars, but when it came time to pop the question to girlfriend – and fellow DWTS pro – Karina Smirnoff, his trademark swagger dissolved.

"Planning the proposal was the most nerve-wracking thing of my life," the dancer, 29, tells PEOPLE in its new issue. "When it came down to it, I thought, 'It's not a given that she'll say yes.' All of a sudden it's like, 'I have nothing to say! Why did I even do this?' "

Adds Smirnoff, 31: "I thought it was so cute because you never see Maks [nervous] like this."

Although they only started dating in late September, the Ukrainian-bred couple – who will square off against each other in the new season of DWTS, debuting March 9 – actually have a long history: They first met as teenagers on the pro dancing circuit.

"You know how boys tend to develop slower than girls?" asks Chmerkovskiy. "A lot slower!" says Smirnoff. Back then, she adds, "I never looked at him seriously."

Now the couple, who plan to wed in late 2009, are looking ahead to starting a family. "Our kids would be rock stars," says Chmerkovskiy, playful swagger back in place. "They're going to be like royalty."

DANCING WITH THE STARS: TED'S TAKE

With a new season of Dancing With the Stars starting up again next month, I though it only befitting to have an expert size up the contestants.

Or at least, someone who’s taken a turn (and a spill!) on the ballroom dance reality competition series.

Ted McGinley, who saw his exit early on in season seven, gave me his take on how the new cast will fare on the dance floor “I think this will be the year of the man, the year they claim it back,” says Ted, adding with a laugh. “This would have been a good year to have been a person with no experience. Looks like there are more people in my boat.”

But that won’t be a problem for Sex and the City movie star Gilles Marini. “The French actor? They are born with style and grace so they are already good," Ted proclaims. "He’ll look great in the costume and once he says something, he’s in,” Ted proclaims.

Ted thinks that rapper Lil’ Kim and the athletes will do very well on the dance floor. “Football star Lawrence Taylor was the fastest player in his position and so skillful,” Ted says. “He was sort of this untamed beast, and I’m curious to see if he’ll still be the same way when he dances.”

He’s saying a little prayer for country singer Chuck Wicks, who’s taking the stage with real-life girlfriend Julianne Hough as his partner. “If they make it through this, I’ll be the first to buy them a wedding present,” Ted declares. “If they can make it through this test, they can make it through anything, though maybe they’ve been practicing secretly in their hotel room.”

Ted’s pick for taking it all?  Actor David Alan Grier. "I think he’s one of the funniest guys I’ve ever heard and seen,” Ted says. “He’s a trained Yale graduate. I’m sure he’s got some musicality, and he’ll get a ton of votes.”

That is, of course, if Ted’s conspiracy plan for Apple founder Steve Wozniak isn’t true. “I’m sure he’s already got some computer virus that’s affecting all of our cell phones, that’s set up to vote,” Ted chuckles.

And Ted even has advice for the ever-unpredictable shock comedian Steve-O. “I think he’s going to do what I threatened to do if I screwed it up, break into this insane impromptu dance and spin on his head,” Ted advises. “When all else fails, put a staple in something and get out there.”
