It's also true for CBS in the New York Metro area. TARAsia Fan's expertise in this has proved to be correct!

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Ten teams left Salvador, Brazil, for Fortaleza. At the airport, the alliance frustrated Terence/Sarah. Once in Fortaleza, Mark/Bill used computer skills to overtake the other teams, only to be overtaken by Ken/Tina who arrived 1st. Dating couple Anthony/Stephanie came in last, and were eliminated.

Nine teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Credits roll.

Phil: This is Fortaleza, Brazil. The second pitstop in a Race around the world.

Kelly/Christy conf: Drying a sports bra, it "mysteriously curled itself up." They accused Starr of throwing it out the window. Kelly/Christy make like they'll pop her one.

Ken/Tina, 12:51 am, CLUE: Fly to La Paz, Bolivia.
Phil: Twelve thousand feet above sea level. They'll have to get a morning newspaper at the statue of Simon Bolivar, and search it for the next CLUE.

Mark/Bill, 12:52 a
Terence/Sarah, 1:13 a
Aja/Ty, 1:14 a

Teams take taxis in the dark and give predictable confessionals on the way.

Toni/Dallas, 1:15 am
Dallas: This Race is about getting to know each other on a different level. It's kinda cool.

Ken/Tina arrive at the airport followed closely by other teams.
Nick/Starr, get clue at 1:17 am.
Kelly/Christy 1:18 am.
Andrew/Dan, 1:22 am. More "RAPIDO!" from the non-Portuguese speaking Racers
Marisa/Brooke, moments behind, but in last.

Teams arrive (apparently together) in the dark at La Paz and realize it's about "endurance at altitude."

Nick/Starr, in 1st, ask for the statue of Simon BolivIar.
They get directions.
Other teams arrive. "It's a campout!"
It's not morning yet. They'll sleep next to Simon Bolivar!

DAWN.

Mountains in the background, teams putting on makeup and freshening up.
Nick/Starr approach Kelly/Christy about "the chill" between them.
Homegirl is all pushed out of shape about her sports bra.
A T T I T U D E ... lol
Teams take advantage of local passersby for help as newspapers arrive.
Teams scramble for newspapers. Teams read, flipping pages, skimming.
"I don't see anything."
Frat boys find HAT SALE ad. That's it!
Phil: They must make their way to the Narvaez Hat Shop and buy a traditional hat for the next CLUE.

As other teams get the clue, they leave silently so other teams can't piggyback.
Several teams still having trouble.
Walking through the streets, Mark/Bill out of breath.
One team calls a taxi.
Andrew/Dan get taxi as do Toni/Dallas, Ken/Tina.
But the streets are packed with cars and they're not moving.
On the ground is faster.

CLUE, Andrew/Dan, DETOUR.
Phil: Two different ways to navigate.
Musical march, on foot to two plazas several blocks apart. Form a band of musicians, deliver to a band leader several blocks away.
Bumpy ride, choose bicycles, use a map, ride down cobblestone streets to a plaza for the next clue.

U-TURN appears at the END OF THE DETOUR.
Phil: Teams can use the power of the u-turn only once through the Race, to make the team do BOTH detours.

As teams get the hatshop clues, they head toward detour choices.
The bike will be head-rattling along the rough cobblestone, but it looks like it's faster if you can read a map.
Looks like gathering musicians from 2 locations and taking them to a 3rd location would take awhile.

Several teams are taking taxis to their DETOUR locations.
A team in a taxi re-reads the clue: Must be done ON FOOT.
Voice: We have to go back to where we got the clue and start over.
Other teams in other taxis go forward, oblivious.

COMMERCIAL.

Terence/Sarah head back in the taxi, so that they don't violate the rule.
Toni/Dallas are having trouble in the altitude; Toni is almost ill.
After the taxi drops them off, Mark/Bill begin their bike ride. (IIRC, only the musician clue required walking, although I could be wrong.)

Frats find musicians in one location.
Marisa/Brooke walk through the streets and run into a band. "Come with us!"
Terence/Sarah make their way on wooden bikes down cobblestone ssstttrrreeetttttssssss.
Aja/Ty and Kelly/Christy will ride bike. Nick/Starr right behind.
The curb seems to be the only bicycle brakes other than the feet.

Another Dallas confessional. (Disproportionate confessionals for them tonight ... might be foreshadowing, uh-oh ...)

Mark/Bill choose not to U-TURN anyone
CLUE, travel by taxi to Los Titanes Del Ring.
Phil: 8 miles to the next clue.

Nick realizes that Kelly/Christie will u-turn them and he's trying to get Starr to haul it.
Marisa/Brooke have disproportionate confessional time, too, and they're taking it very easy here.
Aja mouths off to Ty about how hard it is to maneuver the bike and he mouths off back at her.
Dallas tries to encourage Mom on her bike, to little avail.
Marisa/Brooke dancing their way along with their band!
Frats look worried with their band.
Terence/Sarah race to the U-TURN
The band leader gives the okay.

Marisa/Brooke, 2nd, dont' U-Turn
Ken/Tina, Terence/Sarah, dont' U-Turn anyone either

Frats, no U-Turn.
Nick/Starr realize they're toast if they don't beat Kelly/Christy to the U-Turn.
Aja/Ty pass them up as they walk.
Kelly/Christy want to get there!
Three teams racing nearly even!!
Nick/Starr make up the difference!
Aja/Ty meet them at an intersection!
Kelly/Christy wipeout!! One of 'em's injured. "DAMMIT!"

Christy is on the ground as Nick/Starr consider whether to u-turn them. They don't.
Aja/Ty don't u-turn anyone either.
Both teams take taxis to the next location.
In the cab, Aja/Ty wonder if they made a good decision.
Kelly/Christy think they're in last and don't try to U-turn anyone.
Toni/Dallas, however, were in last.

Mark/Bill and Marisa/Brooke cabs getting close to the next destination, with Ken/Tina close behind them.

ROADBLOCK.
Phil: One person sets aside all decorum to fight a girl. "Fighting Cholitas" in a wrestling ring, costume and all. The Cholita teaches them 6 moves, which they must perform with their Cholita. Referee decides whether they do correctly; if even 1 is messed up they have to train again.

Ken/Tina in 1st
Ken: You gotta be kidding me! I had no idea it was a woman!
Marisa/Brooke arrive in 2nd
The Racer must (sort-of randomly) choose one of the Cholitas to train with.
Mark/Bill arrive in 3rd. I doubt they'll learn fast.
Ken: READY!
The announcer calls Ken's name and the match begins!
Tina claps.
Ken wears a cape like Superman!
The crowd boos Ken!
The Ref checks boxes as Ken does the techniques.
Tina winces.
Double flip slingshot! Yay!
Tina: I was really proud of him!
CLUE: Travel by taxi to the pitsotp.
Phil: The Mirador el Monticulo. This hilltop park is the pitstop. Last team to check in, may be eliminated.

After 3rd place, it's a horserace.
Something like 7 teams are all together in cabs as they arrive.
Apparently only 2 teams can train at a time, as there are only 2 rings.
Toni/Dallas arrive.
Mark/Bill screw up and have to go back to the training camp.
Marisa is kicking ass. Literally. (with her feet!)
Arriving after other teams, Aja/Ty, Andrew/Dan, bringing up the rear. Kelly/Christy in last.
Marisa screws up one of the techniques and returns to the training.
Dallas is trying his wrestling stunts as Toni cheers loudly.
Dallas succeeds, and they leave in 2nd.
Sarah, bespectacled, screws up the TAUNT. The freaking TAUNT of all things!

Bill requires oxygen.
Andrew/Dan done in 3rd.
Nick and Ty prepare for the ring.
Nick succeeds, gets CLUE.
Aja cheers Ty, who flips awkwardly into the ring.
Nick and Ty get their CLUES as Terence is totally pissed.
Mark comes back for his second try at the ring.

Local: Welcome to Bolivia.
Phil: Ken/Tina, you're team #1. You've won a 7 night trip for 2 to Cabo San Lucas!
Ken conf: We're on a positive 'roll' in our relationship.

After another round of training, ComicBook is back in the ring!
So is Marisa.
Marisa wins!
So does Mark/Bill!
Both teams head to their taxis, in 6th and 7th respectively.

Terence yells encouragement to Sarah, who finishes successfully in 8th.
Kelly/Christy are none too happy about it, either.
Christy: All I can hope is that someone's taxi got really lost.

Andrew/Dan's taxi is passed by another team.
Nick/Starr and Terence/Sarah see each other's taxis on the streets.
The frats see another team.
Nick: Relax! Relax!
Kelly/Christy are more worried about Starr than they are about coming in last and being Philiminated.
Teams get out of taxis and run.

Phil: Terence/Sarah, you're team #3. Marisa/Brooke, you're team #4.

Mark/Bill realize they screwed up by taking a taxi to the Detour.
They both go "Uh-oh" and await their fate.

Two teams haul ass toward the Bathmat.

Phil: Aja/Ty, you're team #5. Nick/Starr, you're team #6.

Phil: You're the 8th team to arrive. For the taxi ride, you have incurred a 30 minute penalty. You must wait before checking in.

Kelly: If we're going home, I'll scream!

Phil: Kelly/Christy, you're the last team to arrive. However ..
Voice: OMIGOD!
Phil: Mark/Bill are incurring a penalty and are waiting to check in, so you are still in the Race.
They hug.
Phil: Mark/Bill, you have been eliminated from the Race.
Christy starts to cry.

Conf: We came in knowing we couldn't compete physically, but we expected to compete mentally. Misreading the clue?
Bill: Running the Race with Mark was a wonderful experience.

NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Long distance couple Aja/Ty get too close for comfort ...
Airport scene, sitting several seats apart.
Ty: I'll call you Fidel Castro! Okay, leader!

Phil: ... and the winds blow over Starr.
Looks like a Roadblock in a wheeled road-glider thingy. Starr's sail-wheel-thingy catches the wind and tips over.

I am just so happy that Mark & Bill weren't eliminated due to the U-Turn.  That it was a combination of not reading the clue properly and poor performance at the roadblock that did them in.

Here's a tissue.
On top of this I have a cold and had a molar pulled, plus I am going on vacation Ssturday, so pass me some drugs please mswood. I'm a mess wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'll pass you some of my regular Tylenol and Tylenol PM, if it's okay with you, Puddin.  I'm sorry Mark & Bill lost, but they just screwed up.  Remember -- READING IS FUNDAMENTAL!  Kelly & Christy learned that the hard way last week, but they had enough of a lead to avoid getting Philiminated.  Mark & Bill didn't, sad to say.  Of course, they might have had a better chance if the high altitude didn't contribut to their poor performance in the Roadblock.

Moving on -- now I really dislike Nick & Starr.  Not for wanting to U-Turn Kelly & Christy -- the women would've done the same thing to them.  No, it's for asking Aja & Ty to do the honors for them, even if the long-distance dating couple spurned the idea.  That's rather underhanded, and maybe Starr's problems next week is a little bit of karma coming back to them.

How the hell are Marisa & Brooke 2nd? (I'm not watching by the way)

Sam, if you watched you would know that Marissa/Brooke were 2nd reaching the DETOUR. I don't know how they accomplished that. That got them going first down the MUSICAL MARCH route so they came out 2nd. This is the way I remember it.

EDITOR'S NOTE - I may have been confused on which DETOUR they were on, but their early start also led to their 2nd place DETOUR finish.

I had to come out of lurkdom and say that the Bumpy Ride detour was the greatest of all time  :hearts:  :hearts:  :hearts:  :hearts:

I now have added La Paz, Bolivia to the list of places I have to go to before I die.

Just to clarify, Marisa & Brooke didn't do 'bumpy ride', which is what put them in such a good spot going into the roadblock. As I remember, it was Mark & Bill then Marisa & Brooke then Terence & Sarah then Ken & Tina at the U-turn.

I would've gone for Musical Marches.  I'm not good at bicycle riding, and I think I could've motivated the musicians to follow me -- maybe with a little judicious tip for them.   ;)

That was a good episode, although I am mad that the U-turn still doesn't have numbered tags. Oh yeah, and that MARK & BILL got eliminated! :'(

Oh well, I saw it coming. For being so "unpredictable", 9th place really is predictable. :groan:

And Nick & Starr's poor attempts at villainy? Really, really low for so early in the Race. I disliked them at first but I want them eliminated now.

Hooky, I don't agree 9th place was predictable for Mark & Bill - they were 2nd place in the last leg!  And 4th in the first!!  Booooo Mark & Bill gone  :'(

But I do agree that Nick & Starr's attempts at being the villains are kind of lame at this point. Why would they have thought Aja & Ty would listen to them at the U-turn?  I feel like maybe they're just doing this for camera time...

Hi, GeorgiaPeach!! Hope you, Puddin, and all the detectives are having a successful season spoiling and sleuthing.  Speaking of which, I can't thnk of any board other than RFF where I could get some inside info that an actual racer posted.  While watching the show on Sunday, I knew that Kelly & Christy wouldn't be eliminated even though it looked dicey for them because of an upbeat post from Christy.

RFF is still the best Amazing Race forum on the net.  Even people like me who stay in the spoiler free threads can enjoy your effort.

BelleBook,  I'm sure you would have done great.  I enjoyed that detour too due to Marisa and Booke's upbeat and fun attitude.  Watching them pass the sourpusses Andew and Dan was most enjoyable indeed.
