5% Hong Kong =[

Look at the zebra crossing
HK's zebra crossing is yellow and the light is green and red

But in this picture
The zebra crossing is white and the light is yellow

So sad the next leg is not HK

(The onliy chance they go to HK next leg is the preview is just the AT Task in TW then they fly to HK
But the Chance is very slim =[)

 2 hours ago, DinKnight says:

who drove the silver Tiida in Taiwan? Alan was knocking on its window. It was not Henry and Bernie (light blue), AD and Fuzzie (white I think) or Geoff and Tisha (black).

Anybody can figure it out?

Mai's car.
Thanks to Alan's video.

Based on what I see in the preview, I saw nothing about Hong Kong but quite a lot in Taipei.

yeah, tish still drove on the right side of the road. The silver Tilda also stopped on the right side too.

If you closely at the front passenger side window, it looks to me as though we may be seeing Oliver...

I don't know, would they make it so easy for us to figure out? Who's to say they use the same car again? We know from other TAR's that they can use whatever vehicle they want at the start of the next leg.
And good luck everyone trying to find that street that Alan is on, I've been through almost all of Skyscrapercity/Taiwan ..........yikey shniky! We need someone from Taiwan to help us.

GUYS IVE DISCOVERED SOMETHING! IT MIGHT NOT BE IN TAIPEI, ITS JAPAN! IN THE VIDCAP OF OLIVER AT THE BRAVIA TV PLACE, THE LABEL ON 1 OF THE TV SAYS " ri ben dian shi (chinese)", which literally means Japan TV! And in the vid(preview), I saw lots of Japanese words! Btw, I went to Japan last winter.

So it might be Japan, not Taiwan or Hongkong!

Can our detectives look into this please??

And the "heading" of the eatery thing that whoever posted in "sogo" mall of taipei says "han shi pan fan" which literally means korean-style rice. So  maybe its Korea? And Japanese dress like the passerbys in the video. So do Korean. ^^ :funny: ;) :waves: :yess:  :neener: :jumpy: :hearts: :sucks :wohoo:

I Don't think it is Japan.....................

You said that you saw 日本電視.......but in this above picture it shows 日本之最 which means the best TV made in Japan
Made in Japan TV can be sold at other country .......
and in the preview it has a lot of Chinese word appear..............
also the car in the preview is drive on the left hand side but Japan is drive on the right hand side................

Sorry But I Don't think is Japan  :'(

And the "heading" of the eatery thing that whoever posted in "sogo" mall of taipei says "han shi pan fan" which literally means korean-style rice. So  maybe its Korea? About it is go to Korean........
Let see this picture

You can see 韓色拌飯 which means a Korean Food Shop
But if it is in Korean it will write in Korean Language They won't write in Chinese................

This shop is just in TW
Remember HK & TW is a city which is crossover with a lot of differnet country style..........................

and if they go to JP or KR is it very tight that they fly to HK in 29/5
So I don't agree they go to JP OR KR :'(

But maybe I wrong because they can go to JP OR KR after the preview is just shot in TW
The JP OR KR shot is not in the preview

What I already know is that thanks to the Wikipedia entry linked by Banzai, you can find out this about the Nissan Tiida:
In Taiwan it is produced by Yulon.

So that means that we will expect to see some of them in Taiwan.

With the new information from episode 4 and the ep.5 preview, it is time to redo the ARA3 TIMELINE:

UPDATED ARA3 TIMELINE (modified October 4)

I now show 9 legs through Oman, so there are two more left to identify.

May 20 leg 1 begins; teams spotted late afternoon at Khao San Road in Bangkok
overnight tranportation to Chiang Mai is by one of 3 chartered buses

May 21 task in Chiang Mai, then pitstop;
leg 2 begins with pitstop release starting in the 10pm time frame

May 22  teams have tasks in the morning and then get to Chiang Mai airport in the afternoon for flight to Saigon
The first may be too early at 1225 1330. Any team that gets that will make an excellent connection TG614 BKK SGN 1540 1710. However, few teams will be able to do that. Most teams will be on TG111 1440 1550 CNX BKK. Their best connection option is TG686 1815 1945 BKK SGN. Only for teams that are not able to get bookings on that will it be necessary to take the flight through Siem Reap to Saigon. Teams do not go directly from CNX to REP as there are no schedules for that time frame. However VN848 has one stop in Siem Reap and is BKK SGN 1740 2125. As for Natalie and Pailin and others, they apparently do not make reasonable flights out of either CNX or BKK and are stuck overnight in Bangkok. For theCNX BKK segment, they will have many chocies and may take TG117 1915 2025 or TG127 2100 2210. In Bangkok the next morning their best bet is BKK SGN TG680 0900 1030.

May 23
So teams will arrive at Saigon airport from evening through late morning and then do tasks there starting at 6am to early afternoon
This includes tasks away from Saigon in the Vietnam countryside, but the pitstop is back in Saigon afternoon through late evening

May 24 teams on release from pitstop start leg 3 with a 25 hour bus ride from Saigon to Hue.

May 25 teams arrive late morning to early afternoon and do fairly short tasks around Hue. The start the pitstop late afternoon to early evening.

May 26 teams are released from pitstop in a range of morning times.
As leg 4 begins they fly Hue to Taipei via Saigon(Ho Chi Minh City) on
HUI SGN VN251 0910 1030 connecting with BR392 1255 1730 to get to Taipei
or possiblywait for SGN TPE CI686 1720 2145. Better flights through Hanoi to get to Taipei were not taken for unknown reasons.

The teams will be able to complete tasks before the pitstop.

May 27 Taipei leg 5 begins; more tasks; I think this will be NEL.
Extended 36 hour pitstop starts before midnight

May 28 extended pitstop

May 29 begin leg 6 Taipei to Hong Kong
There is an average of three 100 minute flights every hour from 6am to 6pm. My guess is they fly out around noon and arrive before 2pm.
tasks in Hong Kong

May 30 complete tasks in Hong Kong; likely to be TBC which starts leg 7 in late afternoon or early evening;
travel to Macau after taking hydrofoil in under 1 hour tasks;

May 31  tasks, then regular pitstop

June 1 begin leg 8; return to Hong Kong Airport by hydrofoil; fly to Singapore;
most probable flights are CX717 0855 1230 or SQ857 1030 1410 or CX739 1120 1505
then connect on to Cochin SilkAir468   SIN COK 2020 2215

June 2 Cochin area tasks, then pitstop in the evening

June 3 begin leg 9; fly Cochin to Muscat, Oman with choices of:

OmanAir 828 0715 0915 COK MCT
IndianAir973 1940 2140 COK MCT

COK to DBX Emirates 531 1030 1245 connecting in Dubai with Emirates 6478 DBX MCT 1810 1910

COK to BOM JetAirways 406 0830 1015 connecting in Mumbai with Jet Airways 808 BOM MCT 1730 1830

June 4 Oman tasks; pitstop

June 5 leg 10; fly Oman to UNKNOWN, possibly in Africa or Europe

June 6 tasks at UNKNOWN; pitstop

June 7 final leg begins; fly to UNKNOWN ASIAN CITY(which may require until June 8 to cross time zones by air) and Finish Line(maybe on June 8)

Blog

Back to Taiwan
Saturday, Oct 4, 2008 8:24AM / Standard Entry

When we raced over to Taiwan this leg, it was a little more special for me because this is where I pretty much started my life working in Asia.  Before that, I was all set to become a starving actor in Hollywood.  However, almost exactly ten years ago, I was offered the opportunity to move to Taiwan to learn Mandarin and become a VJ (video jockey) for MTV.  Of course, I took the offer and it's been one helluva ride since getting bitten by the Asia bug...or lion

Now, this leg of the race was really challenging for everyone, especially the teams because they had to drive themselves in Taipei.  It's tough enough driving in Taiwan already, but it's even more difficult if you don't speak Chinese cuz not too many people there speak English.  Even though the teams found themselves driving aimlessly in all parts of Taipei city, our host team still worked quickly to pop off the shots we needed.
Along the way, we even found a small pocket of time to hit up Xi Men Ding for some grubbin Ay-Chung Mian Xian...

...and also one of my old favorites, bubble tea with "pearls" (but you can still find these outlets anywhere in Taiwan)...

After that, it was off to the pit stop to prepare for the teams' arrival.  By now, some of the teams were working on the stinky tofu, which really is some nasty stuff.  However, the task wouldn't be so difficult if the bowl wasn't so humongous.  I think the amount that the team member had to put down was enough to put anyone down...even if it did taste good!

People always ask me how long we have to wait for the teams to arrive.  If we're all lucky, the teams all come in within several hours so it isn't too bad.  In this leg, I later found out we'd all be waiting until daybreak for the final team to check in.  Our cameraman Yves was feeling the fatigue...

...I even started doing some meditation in an attempt to make the night "race" by faster.

Of course, waiting for the final team is the worst, especially when you start seeing the sun making its move up the skyline from the east...

And just as everyone is about to run out of steam, father and son team Niroo and Kapil finally arrive after a seemingly endless night and are eliminated. Even though it's always tough to see another team go, I could still put on a smile cuz we could all now get some much-needed rest...

And with this next pit stop lasting over fifteen hours, I was definitely going to need every single minute of our short rest before our call time.

Tell you all about that next time!

If we see them driving the same cars at the END of the leg (for whoever Allan goes to) then they still have to be in Taiwan--don't think they would be taking those to Japan, lol!

I doubt they stay in Taipei though (two pitstops same city, prob not), so let's see about what other good sized city could be near an Int airport for flights to HK. Is there another airport they might use if they went further south in the island?

Not sure about an extended pitstop for this second leg--depends if we believe the blog re team seen in HK 5/28 vs the Exif data for 5/29;

Released from Hue 5/26, travel to Taiwan, arr eve
5/26 to 5/27 15 hour pitstop release starting  afternoon  5/27
Pitstop with release 5/28 vs extended  pitstop release 5/29 vs some chance a TBC 5/27 to where though?

Dates re HK are confusing... :duno:

If there are no 2 pitstops in the same city, then it's a TBC???  :duno:
I notice Allan didn't say anything about good bye to a team. Hmm.

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=241&month=5&year=2008&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1

Sunrise in Taipei is around 5:04AM.

Niroo checked in around that time. Other teams probably checked in around 1AM to 2:30AM.

They have to rest at least 12 hours. 1AM + 12 hours = 1 PM.

Leg #5 starts around 1PM - 2:30PM. May 28th.

Allan said, "And with this next pit stop lasting over fifteen hours".

1PM-2:30PM + 15 hours = 4AM-5:30AM on May 29th.  :wohoo:

Allan Wu comes out in the morning of the 29th so the time is about right.  :yess:
-----------------------
A Detour takes about 1 hour.
A Roadblock takes about 1 hour.
Additional task takes about 1 hour.
Drive around between these 3 tasks take about 1 hour.
______________
total is 4 hours.

This leg is about 15 hours long. 15 - 4 = 11 hours of driving on the freeway.
But Allan Wu said they come back to Taipei. 11 hours divided by 2 = 5.5 hours.

So they drive 5.5 hours out of Taipei and 5.5 hours back to Taipei.
