Is anyone watching this show on FOX? I know another show but this one is pretty cool. I watched the episode where they made short films and it was really cool to see the finished product and see what goes into all the work to make it.

Nice, I loved the short film "Random Acts of Kindness" that was freakin' hilarious and the people who did the film "Timeout" with the special effects.

It got a little long last night with so many videos to watch but you can definitely tell who shines and who doesn't.

BbK, last Thursday they told the contestants they had an hour to go shoot a short film and that we would see it on Monday evening. I could swear we didn't see that episode because I think there were more than 18 at that time. I remember it because they hadn't had much or any sleep and had to go shoot their short... Did we miss an episode?

I saw there first two episodes on Fox Reality. I missed the new one last night because for some reason we get satellite but not FOX, weird. Hoping to download and watch the third episode soon.

I didn't really like the first episode, but I kept recording it and now I'm glad I did. I'm really enjoying it. I don't watch it live. Too many commercials and time spent on the numbers to call, etc., so I just FF past that stuff. Some of the contestants are really good! I liked the lucky penny the best and didn't care too much for the ones that had to do with bodily functions

I didn't like those either Jill, but I loved the Lucky Penny movie and we also liked the one Getta Rhoom, we didn't think the character was a special needs person when it was played, we laughed when he got zapped at the end and sent to the hot place.

BbK, I'lm going to check on the episodes, see if I did miss one or if they just killed it.

HA!! My sanity is still pretty much intact! They did skip an episode!

Ok.. the top 3 were: Zach Lipovsky, Danger Zone; Jason Epperson, Getta Rhoom; Will Bigham Lucky Penny.

Booted: Claudia La Bianca, Blind Date; Carolina Zorrilia De San Martin, Deliver Me; Phil Hawkins, Please Hold.

I thought there were a couple of others that were worse but we still have the rest of the season for them.

LOL.. Does this mean I need to start voting for Zach for ya? I've liked all that I've seen from him, he is excellent... I liked Lucky Penny, it could have been a little tighter on the time line for the piano falling, but I loved the ending.

I just read over on TVGuide.com that the Monday slot did poorly so the show isn't on Monday anymore and they are combining the competition and results into one show.

But the only spectacular thing about Fox's On the Lot so far has been its failure in the ratings: the first night of week 1 attracted 7.6 million viewers, a whopping 70 percent drop from American Idol's 25.3 million lead-in. By week 2, the series earned just an average of 3.5 million viewers — and on May 31, Fox announced it would drop the live elimination episodes and condense the twice-weekly competition into one taped Tuesday-night hour. ''We're just trekking through,'' says host Adrianna Costa, who replaced Chelsea Handler on the May 28 installment. (Handler left to shoot her new E! talk show, Chelsea Lately.) Costa adds that the show — in which amateurs compete for a $1 million DreamWorks development deal — has ''a concept you have to get used to.''

But will viewers think it's worth the trouble? Lot's clunky on-air adjustments aren't helping. In addition to the host switcheroo, six of the 24 filmmakers had disappeared from the May 28 episode without explanation. (Fox calls it a ''creative decision''; Spielberg and Burnett declined to comment.) Despite all this, Fox says Lot will air through mid-August and will average one elimination per week. UGH.. is this show not boring? Boot for Hilary I think. Best movie last night probably will go to Shalini. Apparently this batch of movies were their submission films, which surely is misleading to the audience when you think they are current attempts.

"The show's fallen far, fast. Last night we looked on as it tried to pass off five contestants' submission films as new, original content. (The show kept stressing that the shorts were written, shot, and edited in five days, as if to suggest that they were written, shot, and edited in the last five days, although behind the scenes, Fox has identified the movies as ''personal submission films'' in a PR release.) No doubt this saves production costs at the same time that it gives Fox time to figure out what it's gonna do about the show's Dumpster-diving ratings. Meanwhile, submission films? Three-minute movies that are good enough to get you on the show might be good enough to get you on the show, but that doesn't make them ready for prime time. At least last week's mini-comedies were born out of the creative pressure of a time limit. They had, you know, urgency. Last night's movies had the opposite; they took us backward.

Through the night, 5 of the 15 remaining contestants got up there and screened their submission films, and the judges pronounced this or that. (After the viewers vote, one person will leave at the beginning of next week's show.) As swiftly as possible, let's trot through all five. The bad news is that none of the shorts were great; the other bad news is that none were totally horrible either."

I am never one to criticize anybody's attire, but the host's top was so atrocious that I am breaking my rule one time. What was she (and the FOX wardrobe people) thinking?

The production of this show is just what I expect from FOX, i.e. crappy host, false drama, wasting a lot of your time, ridiculous judges.

The solution that I am adopting for the remainder of this show, and recommending to you, is to watch only the films on the www.thelot.com website as soon as the actual show on Tuesday night is over. You can even vote if you do so within 2 hours of the end of the show in your time zone. This way you can see just the films without all of the B.S. and judges commentary, which I find useless at best and totally wrong at worst (Gary Mashall telling Adam to have the baker and job applicant embrace at the end of that film).

Whatshername host is so memorable I can't even remember her name, or what she wore. :loser:

They need a Simon Cowell to say, 'That was RUBBISH!' or something along those lines when it is. I think they should have just had one monster finale and put the show out of its misery. I think I'm pretty much done with it myself.

They aren't there yet even though they are supposed to be at 9pm, but there are ample comments on TWOP. I can tell anyone reading this that the eliminated contestant from last week was Marty, a truly deserving elimination based on how bad his film was.

The last 5 of the 15 contestants' films were on the website overnight. Here is what I thought of them:

Jason - Blood Borne - story was good; filmmaking was weak; overall, I give him a slightly below average mark

Jessica - the Orchard - story was interesting, although in no way a comedy; filmmaking was topnotch; I rate this above average

Mateen - Lost- lost indeed; this was suppopsed to be a black comedy, but I found the filmmaking was weak; this is a one-way ticket home for Mateen

Will - Glass Eye - reasonably amusing story, with a priceless ending; good fimmaking; I rate this above average

Zach - Sunshine Girl - precious story, excellent filmmaking; Zach is many people's pick(including mine) to win the $1 million contract; this was the winner this week

So, that's what I thought from looking at the 5 films on the www.thelot.com website. What do you think?

Blood Born --I've heard that story before..and I didn't like the style of filming or the ending/non-ending (So I would have hated Sopranos too?

)

Orchard--doesn't everyone know that you are supposed to tell your trees before you prune them so they can prepare themselves??

But the point-of-view filming was excellent.

Lost--average in every way

Glass Eye--very cute story and liked the film style B/W. But why couldn't he see without the eye? It was only glass...

Sunshine Girl--well done all around--nice complete story telling--loved the sun looking so real.

This show is losing viewers in huge amounts every week. This week's episode had just 2.5 million viewers. That's down from a high of 8.5 million viewers.

Enjoy it now, because it aint coming back!

From last week's flims, the eliminated contestant provevd to be Jessica, whose The Orchard was not everyone's cup of tea.

Here are my ratings of this week's comedies:

Shalini "Dr. In-Law" - this was an OK film with some rather obvious humor

Adam "Discovering the Wheel" - I found this very funny; it was one of the two that I voted for

Will "Nerve Endings" - if my vote for the worst film is decisive, then Will is going home next week; this was forced and crass

Hilary "Under the Gun" - what a turnaround from her prior film; I voted for this one as a very funny film

David "How to Have a Girl" - I didn't find a lot of humor here; just enough to put this film ahead of last place

Zach "Die Hardly Working" - this one did not tickle my funny bone as much as the ones I voted for but it was a good effort

So, I think Adam and Hilary did the best and Will the worst. We'll see how America votes. One can never know until those votes are counted.

Tonight we had the 6 horror films to watch. I do not know which of last week's contestants was eliminated, but when I find out I will post it in this thread. My comments on this week's films and filmmakers are:

Kenny "Malibu Myth" - a ghoulish surprise; I thought it was average at best

Sam "Anklebiters" - for me clearly the worst of the lot; there was no real twist here; Sam would go home if I were the sole judge

Andrew "Midnight Snack" - this had a pretty good twist but was an average film

Jason "Eternal Waters" - coffin triggers drowning images, then there is a knife attack; pretty scary; I rated this one the best and voted for it

Shira-Lee "Open House" - ghost recommends vacating a house new to the couple just moved in; this one was average

Mateen "Profile" - once more the filmmaker I had rated lowest in the past has made a big turnaround; black motorist fantasizes being brutalizes in a police station by white policeman as a black policeman ducks away; this was the second best film and I also voted for it

So, Jason best horror filmmaker, Mateen a close second, and Sam at the bottom.

i'm trying to understand the voting methods for this show as i've only watched episodes here or there and never a booting show...

and the website showed about 12 people not blacked out (voted off) so guess everyother week they compete? so last week I saw 6 different directors than this week? is that sounding about right??

RELAX!

There were 6 filmmakers doing comedies last week, including Zach. None of them appear to have been eliminated last night. I am guessing that next week they will announce which one comedy filmmaker and which one horror filmmaker have been eliminated and then go on with the remining 10 in the competition. It would be a total shock to me if Zach were eliminated on this round. I am predicting Canada for the win, CeeeJay.

I agree on Zach, he's been consistently good from the beginning. I think the biggest mistake was having 50 contestants then not whittling them down faster to say 12 then let us see how they do competing. I also was more interested in the show when they were having to go out and shoot with time limits or with other filmmakers near by and having to cope with the conditions. I tape the show, I just haven't watched the past few weeks.

I have finally discovered who was eliminated from last week's comedies. It was David, who I rated next to last. However, the audience vote for best was Will, who I rated as worst. Go figure!

Tuesday night's episode started with the elimination of Shira-Lee. We are now in the round of 10, with half the filmmakers competing to not be the one eliminated tonight. The films were:

Time Upon A Once by Zach - the title tells you that this film is based on making time go backwards; a couple moving into a new neighborhood do that to reverse the effects of an accident; this was an above average film

Worldly Possessions by Adam - a globe with unique powers arrives unexpectedly at the home of a suburban couple; they experiment and find consequences beyond what they could have imagined; this was a very funny film

The Legend of Donkey-Tail Willie by Hilary - a man with a donkey tail struggles to find love until he meets his match; this was dull and boring; this was the worst film of this group by so big a margin that I will be totally shocked if it Hilary is not the eliminated filmmaker

First Sight by Shalini - a pair of sunglasses gives its wearer a new perspective on the world around her; this was a terrific film; I was too late to vote but I would have voted for this one

Spaghetti by Will - a lost driver arrives at a ghost town and tries to find someone to give him directions; a gunfighter appears to challenge him to a duel; his cell phone goes off and he throws it at the gunfighter and knocks him out with it; this was another terrific film worthy of my vote if I was quick enough to make one

So, Shalini and Will are best, Adam is close behind, Zach has done fine, and Hilary's film is a loser. This week we have seen the average quality of the films sharply increase.

Justice was partially served. Hilary was eliminated from last week's contestants. Shalini was also eliminated and I did not think that was justified.

This week, my summary is WOW! 5 films were all winners. It will be tough to choose one filmmaker who deserves elimination, as I don't think any of them do. It is clear that the filmmakers have raised their performance as they are continuing in the competition. I think a major reason is access to better scripts that allow them to shine. Here is my recap:

Sam "Key Witness" A witness escapes a bounty hunter with "magic" after a harrowing chase by 3 thugs with guns. I thought this film was brilliant.

Mateen "Catch" A scheme by a con woman to trap an unexpecting mark is turned around as he is a policeman and she is the victim. This film is excellent.

Kenny "The Loser" A bald man with no experience but a knowledge of physics replaces his hurt son in an extreme downhill skateboard race is the victim of and giver of several tricks to his opponent on the way down the course. Dad loses but his racae was unexpectedly competitive, his son is happy, and a babe invites him to call her sometime. Another excellent film.

Jason "the Sweet" With 15 minutes before his wife's arrival home, a man rememberts it is their anniversary. He hurries out to get a present. On the way he has to do several herculean rescues. He buys her favorite flowers and gets back just in time. She appreciates his effort, but she is hurrying out as the film ends. This film is very good.

Andrew "Zero2Sixty" A fugitive is being hunted by an FBI agent and steals a car from a dealership. The agent comendeers the first car he sees and the car salesman comes with it. the salesman is using all his sellling points on the agent as he is chasing the other vehicle. When the salesman runs out of points, hs borrows the agent's gun, shoots out the tire ahead, makes the collar, and then asks the agent what financing is needed for him to buy the car. the agent responds "How about cash?" This is another brilliant film.

All 5 films had incredible motion and all filmmakers did a fine job of setting up those scenes and directing that motion. It is regrettable that one has to lose, but I would pick Jason as the least good of 5 really good films. Since there will be a second elimination, I cannot decide between Kenny and Mateen.

THE LOT FINALE

This show opened with the elimination of Sam to get the final group down to 3. Jason, Will, and Adam were selecting two of their previous films for showing tonight. The usual voting mechanism will be used to determine the winner to be presented next week; since this is FOX there will no doubt be 56 minutes of baloney before they announce the winner in the final minutes. Only Carrie Fisher and Gary Marshall were there as judges tonight, but their only function was to ask an obvious question of one of the contestants. Adriana Costa appeared to fit into her dress properly for the first time that I recall.

Jason selected Eternal Waters, the story of a mother haunted by a drowning who is attacked by an intruder and saved by the ghost of her dead son, and Sweet, the story of an anniversary gift.

Will selected Glass Eye, a comedy about an artificial eye popping out and being chased by its owner until a dog finally gets it, and Yes Men, a gender-switch comedy about how an executive wakes up in a dress and everyone who works for him responds.

Adam selected Dough: The Musical, about a baker and a woman who is applying for employment at his bakery, and Army Guy, the story of toys who come alive inside a doll house and fight and do some comedy routines.

I adored Dough:the Musical and thought it was the best single film that I saw in the entire competition. I disliked Eternal Waters, so I think Jason ought to come in third. I liked both of Will's comedies. Army Guy is OK. I guess I would give the title (and the $1 million Spielberg contract) to Adam in a close vote over Will.

THE LOT FINALE RESULTS SHOW

Well, what do I know. The Internet voting process was not functional for anyone, so I could not vote for Adam. FOX was relatively tasteful and revealed that Adam finished 3rd in the voting 42 minutes into last night's show. My favorite was gone. That left it to Will vs. Jason. I would be happy with Will, but not Jason. At 50 minutes into the show, Adriana Costa opened the envelope with a flourish and announced that the winner of the $1 million contract with Dreamworks is Will. He was then shown meeting Steven Spielberg at that studio.

Sorry, Ceejay. Canada's star filmmaker went out as #5. He just did not have the breadth in his films across a wide variety of genres. His action/motion films were superior, but he did not do as well with real human characters. Lack of support in this thread caused me to not post anything for multiple weeks, so the specifics of what happened was not documented. However, he did make it to the round of 5 before the public voted him out to Will, Jason, Adam, and Sam(who finished ahead of him in that order).

I appreciate your updates apskip. I loved Dough the Musical, I thought it was funny and enjoyable. Sorry he didn't do better.
