If You Could Have 3 Things on the Island What Would They Be and Why? A comfortable chair, nice to sit down and rest, and an iPod with earphones to play my favorite music, “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu.

Reason for Being on SURVIVOR: At my age, I have the mental and physical fortitude to successfully compete for 39 days in whatever challenges I face, in addition to establishing and maintaining successful interpersonal connections with other tribal members. It’s all about the adventure, going to faraway exotic places and living in the mud. Why You Think You’ll “Survive” SURVIVOR: I have the ability to build an “A” frame or a similar shelter with an elevated sleeping platform. I can start a fire with bamboo friction or eyeglass lenses, and prepare meals for fellow tribemates.

Why You Think You Will Be the Sole SURVIVOR: I’ve trained all my adult life for an ultimate challenge. This is it!

Following Episode 1: Joe is a likeable man and exceeds all other castaways in age by a significant margin. The natural contrast in temperaments -- both generational and as a result of his FBI background -- will make surviving eliminations an uphill climb for him. His impressive physique would probably endear himself to the "Brawn" tribe. Sadly, the next closest tribemate to him in age, Debbie, appears to have rubbed people the wrong way. While Joe might seek to bond with her, he should probably keep his distance.

Following Episode 2: Joe's frustration with his tribemate's incompetence might boil over at just the wrong time. While he is valid in questioning the practical skills of the younger members of his tribe, he will have to tread carefully before admonishing them for wasting the supplies they won at the challenge. Joe must better handle the social part of the game if he wants to last.

Following Episode 3: Joe was wise to stay close with Debbie. As noted under Debbie and Liz, Debbie's awareness for the emotional and social elements of the game was a lot better than what the editors showed the viewing audience in the first two episodes. Joe must have known this. His FBI training probably was also an asset in determining how to handle Liz and Peter.

Following Episode 4: During the grueling reward challenge, it appeared as though Joe would be one of the victims of heat exhaustion. He held strong and will need to see some familiar faces in after the tribes are reconfigured to continue advancing in the game. Possibly more so than any of his current tribemates, he stands the best chance of working with Peter if forced to.

Following Episode 5: While the preview scenes appear to reveal Joe as a contentious tribemate, he was a winner this episode in most respects, since he wound up in the numerical majority. Yet his estrangement from his closest ally Debbie might expose his gruff temperament and lead to further disharmony at camp. He is also dealing with what appears to be a serious infection. Joe, more than anyone, needs Peter out of the game. ...How much did the reconfiguration hurt or help Joe's chances (scale of 1 to 10, 1 hurt very much, 10 helped very much)? 7.

Surprised he's really under edited taking into account his age. Then again he didn't think there were any idols and that's an indicator he ain't playing strong enough! Can't wait for him to go off on Peter though!

Yeah can't wait for next week too, lol.

There have been several instances (and rather recently) when players think there are no idols in the game per a 'twist'. It's simply due to them already having been found and the finders naturally lying. I'm sure I've even heard the exact saying "maybe the twist is that there are no idols this season" on another season(s), but just can't remember which one(s).

Following Episode 6: While Peter displayed quite of bit of petulance this episode, Joe displayed some petulance of his own by questioning Peter in a confrontational manner. In his mind, he was using skills from his law enforcement experience to deduce what was obvious to the home viewer (Peter scheming behind his back). Yet his manner only made it more challenging for him to rectify that relationship to preserve what he felt was a voting majority. He managed to bury the hatchet with Peter and showed himself to be a man of his word by aligning with him in the vote (against Julia). In the end, he probably was not bothered to see Peter go, since he and Aubry would have set their sights on him after the merge. However, after his behavior (noticed by Aubry and probably others), one wonders who will work with him socially.

Following Episode 7 (the merge): Joe continues to receive little face time, perhaps indicative of the ongoing struggle he has in assimilating with people who are at least one and, in most cases, two generations younger than him. Like Aubry, he suffered the collateral damage of Debbie's overaggressive gameplay and Neal's untimely evacuation to wind up in a minority alliance. Unlike Aubry, he may not have as many social options for constructing new alliances. He could fly under the radar for a few votes while more villainous castaways garner greater attention. Yet he will have to form an unlikely pairing if he intends to compete in the last immunity challenge.

Following Episode 8: Joe remains a background player. Even amongst the Brains that were targeted, he was considered the least threatening. His vote was the sixth vote for Nick, which suggests he is still closely aligned with Aubry and Debbie. Yet it is apparent he will continue to be a pawn available to remaining players, which makes him unlikely to be voted Sole Survivor.

Following Episode 12: Joe has been virtually invisible throughout the season. Although he and Aubry did not always agree on strategy during the tribal portion of the game and certainly did not agree on Debbie's elimination, since then, he has simply provided an additional vote toward Aubry's interests apparently for no reason other than how he was uninterested in strategizing with any of the other remaining castaways. The dislike which others had for him came through in this episode, notably Cydney for not wanting to be bossed around by him and Jason (who cast a vote against him at tribal council) for his unwillingness to even consider shaking up the game. While Joe provided perfectly valid comments about Jason's lack of respect toward others simply for not having things go his way, it does not dismiss the fact that, in spite of Jason's malicious actions at camp and childish attitude of not helping out after seeing the proverbial writing on the wall, Jason would still garner greater respect from the jury than Joe for being a game player. Joe is the only remaining contestant that is a certainty not to win the title of Sole Survivor. He might receive one vote from Debbie if he found himself in a final two versus Aubry.

Following Finale: Joe's medical evacuation in the previous episode was unceremonious and foreshadowed by Cydney's comments to the camera shown in between the scenes of their reward feast. It is mind-boggling how he could not have known how this could be a result of gorging on a highly disproportionate amount of food in comparison to the previous 33 days. Obviously, Joe was an ardent Aubry supporter in the finale and was going to set her up to make her best argument -- that she was on the winning side of all the votes for elimination and was the primary recipient of all the key pieces of information that led to those votes.
