As people, Romber sucked. As players in both Survivor / The Amazing Race, they will forever be engrained into reality TV history.

The Amazing Race 10 is scheduled to film sometime in or around June 2006, with CBS expected to broadcast the series in Fall 2006.

Jonathan just read the news and repeated whatever they said.  :(

The Amazing Race has recently hired challenge producer Alan Bishop to design new tasks and challenges for this season. Bishop was responsible for challenges in recent installments of Survivor (Vanuatu, Guatemala, Panama).

The challenges will be harder.  ;D

Yeah, when I said "as people", I was referring to themselves as people IN THE GAME. I can still remember when the truck flipped over in TAR7. They refused to stop. Alex and Lynn were so pissed. And the fact that they put the game above all else is the main reason why they are so great.

In their real lives (outside of a game), im sure they're great people.

It's about flippin time. Compared to Survivor challenges, TAR is lacking.

I mean, should I milk a goat or balance things on my head?

I think if the challenges were more difficult, it would make it harder for teams to"bunch up" because some would have difficulty, and some wouldnt. I don't know if TAR wants to go this route.

nothing major , Variety (http://stage.variety.com/article/VR1117943208?categoryid=14&cs=1) has this blurb

Eye gets to play it safe
CBS slate shows signs of stability
With few holes to fill on its fall schedule, CBS will announce just a handful of new drama and comedy series orders this week.
As for specific changes, CBS is expected to moves on Sunday, replacing its movie with two dramas, and Monday, where it will add a comedy. Net also has an hour to fill on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on what it does with "The Amazing Race."

Mr. van Munster scouts all of the show's locations with Ms. Doganieri, his wife. They have just returned from their test run of the next race and are preparing to film the new edition. He is happy to live this nomadic life as long as the show has an audience, he said.

"I'm not keeling over," he added. "I just got all my tests back; they're phenomenal. We put our heart and soul in it."

I'm not complaining ,but I'm not thrilled . Cold Case & Without a Trace are two of my fav shows and do well in the ratings .

CBS ANNOUNCES 2006-2007 PRIMETIME SCHEDULE
And on Sundays, CBS is making key scheduling moves designed to capitalize on the changing competitive landscape of the night. The Number One and most-honored news magazine 60 MINUTES starts the night at 7:00 PM, followed by the Emmy Award-winning reality series THE AMAZING RACE, which moves to 8:00 PM. And from 9:00-11:00 PM, CBS is using two of its most successful and compelling crime series, COLD CASE and WITHOUT A TRACE, to build a seamless block of drama. COLD CASE will air at 9:00 PM, followed at 10:00 PM by WITHOUT A TRACE, one of television's highest-rated series.

heres another way to look at it, katie couric is coming over from nbc, dateline nbc is gone for the fall season because of sunday night football on nbc. those viewers will be looking for a news magazine show, and low and behold katie will pop up on 60 minuts and those viewers will stay with tar.

This works.  The only dilemma is when football pushes the whole schedule back.  Cap off a weekend with the Amazing Race!

well theres football on at 8pm on nbc, thats my 1 main worry.

60 Minutes is the king of newsmagazines, so this will be a push for The Amazing Race 10.

However, there is football, which I suspect will not cause too much havoc (remember, ESPN has had football on Sunday nights for years, and that didn't spell doom for Sunday nights.)
However, The Simpsons airs at 7pm CT, which attracts young viewers (NOTE TO DEMOGRAPHIC: the show airs in reruns dozens of times a week! catch it then...)
But then there is garbage at 7:30pm CT on Fox, a boon to TAR. This is bound to be good because football ALWAYS runs late, so if TAR10 starts at 7:30pm CT, you've got the audience! Will people move to Family Guy before the race ends each week? Who knows...
While a late start each week for TAR10 sounds bad, it doesn't sound like it has to be. And I'm sure CTV will air it right at 7pm CT, no matter what CBS does (this should be a spoiler warning: Canadians could find out before American each week if there's a football overrun)

Net result: doesn't rock, but doesn't suck too. I could catch The Simpsons on the west feed at 10pm CT, and just join in on the race on the east coast.

Football only carries over 7PM on those Sundays that CBS will be carrying a double header or the late 4:30PM game which is not every Sunday.  ESPN does not have the audience an over the air network does, so NBC may be pulling in greater numbers than ESPN did when they carried Sunday Night Football.

But all in all, TAR has a highly rated lead-in (60 Minutes) and two shows following which have had good audiences in the past, except now they will be up against Desperate Housewives and Grays Anatomy which pull big audiences.  I think that the audience shown improve for TAR; actually it wouldn't take much to improve from the 7 - 8 million it has been averaging this time.

Here is my updated list of countries and places that TAR has not been to but certainly could add some well needed new blood to our teams' travels:

No America:
Canada - Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Vancouver and Victoria

  Guatemala, Beliz

Carribean Islands - Virgin Islands, Bermuda

Europe
  Belgium
  Denmark
  Ireland
  Finland
  Estonia
  Latvia
  Lithuania
  Ukraine
  Slovakia - Bratislava
  Czech Republic - Prague
  Romania - Translvania (Dracula!)
  Bulgaria - Veliko Tarnova
  Serbia-Montenegro - Belgrade, Novi Sad
Croatia - Osijek - Dubrovnik Coast
  Slovenia
  Malta
  Greek Islands

Africa
A problem here due to widespread drought, famine, and genocide

  Algeria
  Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls

Asia
  Israel
  Turkey (Asian part)
  Jordan
  Taiwan
  Mongolia

Oceania
  Guam
  Saipan
  Micronesia
  Marshall Islands

South America

Hard to find a new country here that doesn't have somekind of political problem

One more suggestion:  Why not for once go around the world EAST to WEST?  Start in Asia or Oceania and end up coming through the Carribean?

TAR has been in many of the united states also, either as part of the family edition or as starting and ending locations. What states have not been visited at all?
Title: Re: Amazing Race 10 Race info ...

I think one of the reasons the race course goes first usually to south America then to Europe or Africa, instead of going to Asia first is not to just kill all theplayers.

Usually every season has several players who speak spanish.  We have had few who spoke any of hte asian country's native tongue.

Seriously.

Season 1-Africa, I don't rember which country but its the one with Victoria falls.

Season two:  Argentina
Season Three:  Mexico
Season four:  I want to say Switzerland, but it was definetly a European country.
Season 5:  I want to say Brazil (but again definelty south America, though it might have been Argentina since tleg 2 featured the cementary with Eva Peron.

Season 6:  Iceland, I think.
Season 7:  Chili, I think
Season 9:  Brazil.

If a team went straight to Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, ect.  They take a huge risk that the not so good teams (usually the first four to six eliminated) would be so out of their element and lsot that there would be a huge time difference between first team and the next to last.  So that  tehy would have to have huge equilizers to get the teams back together.

Again, though that leaves such fairly safe places like Australia or New Zealand or even hawaii for the first leg (I know we have had taks in Hawaii, but have we had a whole leg there).

The teams might just be killed on the large amount of travel time.

Talk about Zet lag from hell on just the first leg, if htey went that route.
Title: Re: Amazing Race 10 Race info ...
Post by: gingerman28 on May 20, 2006, 11:06:45 PM
First legs for TAR were as follows:

1.  Johannesburg, South Africa and then on to Zambia (Victoria Falls)

2. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

3. Mexico City, Mexico

4. Milan, Italy

5. Punte del Este, Uruguay

6. Iceland

7. Lima, Peru

8. Family Fun

9. Sao Paulo, Brazil

Brazil is the only country used twice in leg one.

Race started in South America 4 times; Europe 2 times; Africa 1 time; No. America (Mexico) 1 time

A race from East to West could start out as follows: to Hawaii, to Guam, to New Zealand.  This would pose no problems for the teams since all three locations speak English.  And the effects of jet lag are minimized when you actually gain time as you fly west.

thanks g-man, i do think this upcoming race is either going togo first go mexico again or to europe and a location that we havnt seen in the race like ireland. since germany is holding the world cup when tar10 will be filming you can count out that country.

I believe one reason for heading to South America is the weather.  For the races that start in late Fall in the US, it is early spring in the southern hemisphere.  Not as much travel disruption in warmer times of the year.

One could use Gman's excellent list and coordinate with starting dates.  Because TAR10 starts in summer, my guess is that they stay in the northern hemisphere for the first leg.

But I'm still going to keep my eyes open for another LA area start.  I will be at the airport on the 17th.

I'd definitely like to see them go to the Southern Hemisphere for this race. All the TARs that have been filmed during the summer (3,6,8) stayed strictly in the Northern Hemisphere, so we never got to see a Southern Hemisphere winter.

I'd really like a route like this

Leg 1: Boston, FL to Bogota, Colombia (it really isn't that bad of a place)
Leg 2: Bogota to Salvador, Brazil
Leg 3: Salvador to Antananarivo, Madagascar
Leg 4: Antanarivo to Chennai, INdia (a decent India leg is long overdue)
Leg 5: India to Melbourne, Australia
Leg 6: Melbourne to Suva, Fiji
Leg 7: Fiji to Belmopan, Belize
Leg 8: Belmopan to Vancouver

(teams get a clue that says "Sorry, we're going home the long way, so fly to....)

Leg 9: Vancouver to Sapporo, Japan (this would be better for a winter TAR, so they could visit the winter festival)
Leg 10: Sapporo to Lhasa, Tibet
Leg 11: Lhasa to Kiev, Ukraine
Leg 12: Kiev to Dublin, Ireland
Leg 13: Ireland to Virgin Islands to Boston

KF for sure

If it's an L.A. permit you're after, it's going to be a little harder to get. What used to be an open, friendly office a few blocks from Grauman's Chinese is now tucked behind a couple extra layers of security at Los Angeles Center Studios (http://www.eidc.com/html/visiting_filml_a_.html). Appts are needed in Pasadena (http://www.ci.pasadena.ca.us/film/); they're too busy for walk-ins.

Not counting the miles the teams might travel within a country (such as to Bruges or Ghent while going to Brussels) it covers a tight 29,845 miles.

Actually I don't know where to stick this  ;D

anyway Matt Roush's  (http://www.tvguide.com/TV/Roush/AskMatt/) take on TAR moving to Sundays ~

Question: I read the CBS upfront news about moving Amazing Race to Sundays at 8 pm/ET. I don't care that they moved the night — again — but why Sunday night? It will be constantly overrun by football games that go long. People who record the show will get to see half of 60 Minutes and miss the end of Race, and I'm afraid it'll begin to lose its audience. This doesn't seem like a good move to me, but maybe I'm worrying prematurely. It is only May, after all. What are your initial thoughts about the new time slot? — Toni M.

Matt Roush: My biggest concern isn't the football overruns, which have been a factor in CBS' Sunday lineup for years. People are used to this and should be able to adjust accordingly — as in: set extra time on the VCR or manually set the DVR, or (here's a thought) watch it live. The biggest hurdle is that Race will be going head-to-head against another powerful reality series already established in the time period, ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which, like Race, is quite popular with families. There's also the NBC football factor to consider. I was surprised CBS didn't use Race to kick off its Wednesday lineup. If the risky Jericho doesn't fly (and given how CBS treated Threshold last season, I'd say the odds are against it), Race could be moved away from Sunday if it loses more momentum. But at least it's airing at 8 pm/ET on whatever night, which is appropriate.

I don't think Sunday's will be as bad as everyone is predicting.  I know football will draw some of the viewers, but AR has a fan base that will follow it wherever it goes.  Just look how the ratings went up when they put it on at a family friendly time.  Sunday at 8:00 will be a good way for families to end the weekend.  It is such a good show I don't want it to fade away because CBS is stupid, we all need to get out there and support it any way possible.

The location and task spoilers and team spoilers are, at the very least, interesting fodder for discussion—at least until more official word comes from CBS about the teams and the race actually begins airing.

Amazing Race in 10th season

PASADENA, Calif. —The Amazing Race’s switch to Sunday nights is not the only change viewers will notice this fall.

This time, 12 teams of competitors will race around the world in a westbound direction, starting in Seattle, executive-producer and co-creator Bertram Van Munster told an informal gathering of reporters over the weekend at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association.

Diverse Cast Embarks on 'Amazing Race'
Show's 10th edition includes Muslim team, amputee
July 15 2006

The 12 teams will be put to the test right away, executive producers Bertram Van Munster and Jonathan Littman say. Instead of "easing in" to the competition by sending the teams to Europe or South America first, the teams will first head to China after starting in Seattle.

The racers will also travel to Mongolia, Kuwait, Vietnam and Madagascar. In all, the race will cover some 40,000 miles in 30 days.

"Amazing" New Teams, New Night
by Gina Serpe
Jul 17, 2006, 6:35 AM PT
back to story

The Race is on...a little bit earlier.

CBS has unveiled the identities of the 12 teams that will compete in the globe-trotting 10th edition of The Amazing Race and vie for the $1 million grand prize.

The network also said the three-time Emmy-winning reality contest, which will go for its fourth consecutive statuette Aug. 27 after locking up another nomination earlier this month, will move to a new night and earlier time slot this fall, a tactic designed to underscore its family-friendly content. The show will air Sundays at 8 p.m., as opposed to Tuesdays at 9.

The new roster of competitors will represent the show's most diverse yet. Joining the college cheerleaders, male models and Miss USA pageant contestants, will be Asian-American brothers, a married Indian-American couple, Islamic best friends, a gay couple and a female Iron Man triathlon winner with a prosthetic leg. Also among the 12 two-person teams, one set of competitors from last season.

"I really believe we've never really had such a broad spectrum of people," host Phil Keoghan said at the Television Critics Association Saturday. "We've, I think, always had a diverse cast, but this particular cast is the whole gamut. It's really exciting to see them all at the starting line."

The season kicks off in a familiar locale, with the teams beginning their journey in Seattle's Gas Works Park, the same spot the third season ended in 2002.

From there, they take off on a 28-day journey, logging an estimated 40,000 miles over four continents.

"Normally we go--we're eastbound," producer Bertram Van Munster said. "This time we went westbound."

Van Munster said the production didn't waste their time "easing" the competitors into the journey with stopovers in Europe or South America or slightly more familiar locations.

"We picked some of the countries that are really hard to produce in," he said, adding that more than one "hardcore communist county" made the itinerary.

China, Mongolia, North Vietnam, Madagascar and Kuwait were among the 13 countries visited, though Van Munster insists the contestants, not the scenery, will make the show must watch.

"It's meltdown city on this whole trip," he said.

The Amazing Race" producers on Seattle: 'Teams must now get the hell outta here.' With minor spoilers...
A number of people probably saw contestants and crew for "The Amazing Race" running around Seattle on Memorial Day weekend, but thanks to Amy Rolph's great story, now you know who the 12 teams are.

What you may not know is why "Amazing Race" executive producer Bertram van Munster decided to return to Seattle to start the race. (The third raced ended in the Emerald City in 2002.)

Talking to reporters a few days ago, van Munster said he wanted to go West this time instead of flying East, as teams have done in the past.

After the panel, I asked him why. "If you go West, they have some assumptions of what they're going to do," he told me. "They assume, oh, we're probably going to Europe...They end up trying to figure out what the challenges could be and we have always thrown them for a curve. They have never figured out what countries they're going to or what they're going to do."

When mapping out the sequence of destinations, van Munster said, "I just look at the logic of airplanes and where we need to go and will it take them in that direction," he said. "I picked Seattle because I wanted to fly westbound, and Seattle has flights into China. So that had a lot to do with it.

"Seattle is great," he added. "First of all, it's very open city, which makes it easy to work, and it's a little city."

Which would make it easy for teams to get around, right? Sure. If producers intended them to stay.

One of the first challenges will be at the typical Seattle traveler's least favorite places: SeaTac International Airport.

"The airport is so overcrowded in Seattle because of 9/11. You've gotta go through this zig-zag routine of ropes, which I find interesting," van Munster said. "Because all of a sudden, you're five ropes ahead of me. It's nerve-wracking to stand in these lines as it is -- nobody wants to stand in these lines -- but if you're in a race!" He shook his head. "I hope that one of these days they can clear that up."

Keoghan, meanwhile, skipped the compliments and went straight to the logic. "The city that we choose for the start city is the stepping point for going somewhere else. We want to get them on a plane, and we want to get them traveling as fast as possible.

Found this on CBS Press :
The Amazing Race 10
(Bios)
BERTRAM VAN MUNSTER
(Executive Producer, Director and Co-Creator, THE AMAZING RACE 10)
Bertram van Munster has carved out a very special place for himself in global television. He possesses a very imaginative and daring spirit for creating high quality, unique and even rarified cinema verite-style reality television. In September 2005 Bertram, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, his distinguished partner of six years, earned his third consecutive top reality television Emmy Award (Outstanding Reality Competition Program, 2002, 2003, 2004) for the THE AMAZING RACE, on the Network.
Bertram and his partner, Co-Creator/Co-Executive Producer Elise Doganieri, won the much-coveted 2005 Producers Guild of America (PGA) award for Non-Fiction Television for THE AMAZING RACE and also took home a Family Friendly Award in 2005. Bertram was honored with a Best Director Award nomination this year from the Directors Guild of America, in addition to receiving top award nominations from both the PGA and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD Award).
In early 2003, Bertram created and was the executive producer of the critically acclaimed ABC reality series "Profiles from the Front Line," which put a human face on the war on terrorism by profiling the incredibly brave men and women in the armed forces who are engaged in battling the enemy.
Bertram was also the creator and executive producer of "Wild Things," the hit syndicated adventure series from Paramount Domestic Television, which premiered in 1997 and ran for three consecutive championship seasons. In order to create some 80 hours of "Wild Things," Bertram and his crews traversed some of the world's most inaccessible and inhospitable regions -- from Africa to Alaska -- in search of compelling, reality-style stories.
Prior to his association with Paramount, Bertram most notably served as producer on more than 300 half-hour episodes and three one-hour specials of Fox Broadcasting's long-running prime time series "Cops." During Bertram's tenure, the series received four Emmy Award nominations and was honored with a Television Critics Award. He also served as a consultant on a special Fox sweeps edition of "X-Files" meets "Cops."
Born and raised in Holland, Bertram first worked as an apprentice cameraman for Fox Movietone News. Later, he became a much sought after director-cinematographer on high-end commercials with his Amsterdam-based company, Film Group One, which was regarded as the premiere European production house by the world's top ad agencies.
Earthview maintains satellite offices throughout the globe, including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Nairobi, Kenya; Johannesburg, South Africa; New Delhi, India, and Bangkok, Thailand.
He makes his home with his wife, Elise, in Los Angeles.

July 2006
JONATHAN LITTMAN
(Executive Producer, THE AMAZING RACE)
Jonathan Littman began his career in entertainment on Broadway, working as both a stage manager and casting director while still in college. After college, Littman moved from theater to television, starting at ABC in Children’s and Late Night Programming, which led to his first producing job as a segment producer for “Day’s End,” a late night news show that followed “Nightline.”
After moving to California in 1989, Littman joined NBC as Director of Daytime Programs. He left two years later to join the still fledgling FOX network, and spent the next six years working in both current programming and drama development, where he was involved in the development and day-to-day management of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Melrose Place” and “The X-Files.”
In 1997, Littman left FOX to create and run a television division for film producer Jerry Bruckheimer. As President of Jerry Bruckheimer Television (JBTV), Littman has been responsible for the development and production of all Bruckheimer series which include “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: NY,” “Cold Case,” “Close To Home,” “Without a Trace” and the Emmy Award-winning series “The Amazing Race,” all on CBS. Littman serves as an executive producer on all the series.

Also among the 12 two-person teams, one set of competitors from last season.

Is this a typo or is there a surprise 13th team?

:hithere: joe6606!  :welcome:

Since it says AMONG the 12 teams, I interpret it to mean the "set of competitors from last season" are one of the 12 teams.

(I'm curious...who would that team be from last season!!?  ??? )

Sorry, a bit OT, but reality tv related.....

New cross-media reality show coming from AOL & CBS....GOLD RUSH (http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/31/tv_realty_tv/main1850518.shtml)    :o

...between this and Treasure Hunters, should send slowhatch into "reality show heaven".
only thing, it doesn't use historical clues....
   (:;)  :groan:  :lol3:  ;)  ???

Just the opposite. From the website:
Quote
"You don't need to be, you know, an expert in ancient history or something to figure this out. You just need to know what lipstick Madonna was wearing the other night on 'Entertainment Tonight.'
For me, that's above and beyond the call of duty.  :lol3:
But seriously? As I understand the concept, it's very clever, almost brilliant in a Machiavellian sort of way. Instead of attracting viewers to a certain time slot (by making good programs), you can use a contest to "steer" them to a show. Networks can move "eyes" towards an ailing program or (worse yet) direct viewers attention to the ads and product placements in a particular show (in which case the show content becomes almost irrelevant).

AOL AND MARK BURNETT PRODUCTIONS PARTNER WITH THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK TO BRING GOLD RUSH - THE GROUNDBREAKING ONLINE REALITY GAME - TO LIFE

Real-life Treasure Seekers To Find Over $2 Million in Gold Using Clues Found in CBS Fall Premieres and Commercials

NEW YORK, May 17, 2006 –In a groundbreaking online, offline and on-air partnership, Emmy Award-winners AOL and Mark Burnett announce a unique partnership with CBS, America’s #1 television network, to bring the online reality game GOLD RUSH to life.

GOLD RUSH begins as thirteen armored trucks laden with gold head off into the darkness, their caches are about to be hidden somewhere in America.  Twelve of these trucks contain $100,000 in solid gold and the thirteenth, $1 million dollars in solid gold.  Together, over $2 million in solid gold is up for grabs.

But this is not a television show; this is a real-life cross platform media event where each week new clues will be found within CBS television programs, sponsor commercials, AOL.com and other media properties.  After identifying and combining the clues, real-life treasure seekers will embark on a race to find the gold, resulting in a national treasure hunt.

"GOLD RUSH is a massive cross platform reality event,” says Mark Burnett. “Unlike reality TV shows, where 16 hopefuls can take part to win, GOLD RUSH will allow potentially millions of players to look for the gold in mediums which are omnipresent, such as the Internet, radio, network television and print magazines.  It is a game-changer in the way that the first Survivor changed the game.”

“The combination of the reach of AOL.com, our next-generation free broadband portal, with CBS, the # 1 TV network, and the talent of Mark Burnett will make GOLD RUSH a landmark interactive event not to be missed,” says Kevin Conroy, Executive Vice President, AOL.

CBS, the exclusive broadcast partner, will work collaboratively with GOLD RUSH producers to promote the network’s new Fall lineup by integrating aspects of CBS programs and advertising
into the game. At the same time the companies will work together to develop online, offline and on-air marketing and cross-promotional activities.

“We are thrilled that CBS will be the broadcast home of GOLD RUSH, which is sure to be this season’s most innovative integrated marketing event,” said George Schweitzer, President, the CBS Marketing Group.  “We believe this partnership will excite our viewers while also attracting new treasure-seeking players who tune into our fall premieres, like what they see and come back for more.”

GOLD RUSH, available through the free AOL.com portal, will give players the opportunity to find gold treasure. CBS Television will be deeply integrated into the GOLD RUSH challenges enriching the game experience by engaging casual players, pop culture junkies, and truly devoted treasure seekers through an integrated web of challenges and entertainment.

The hunt for gold begins this Fall on AOL.com . For more information, check out www.aol.com/goldrush and www.goldrush.aol.com

What I want to know is when the hell is teh show going to be offered for downlad on Itunes.

I can (if I must) see that the cost of making and shipping DVD isn't worth the retuns (But I want htem know).  But I would gladily pay 2 bucks for an episode on itunes.

After all my copies of season 1-6 suck, big time.

And it is certainly not expensive to put the material on itunes.

Puddin any idea how we can pass this nicely along to CBS.

Reality shows stick to the old and familiar
‘Survivor’s’ divided-by-race tribes offers perhaps the biggest twist

Updated: 5:31 p.m. ET Sept 1, 2006

As summer drifts away, many of the biggest changes coming to reality shows are simple timeslot switches. CBS's “The Amazing Race” is returning for a 10th season, and after moving timeslots twice last season, will now air on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET, opposite ABC’s solid “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Racers this year include the first Indian-American team, the first Islamic team, and a racer with an artificial leg. This year, the race will head to places it’s never been before, just as Ty Pennington and crew will travel around in search of new families to help with their Craftsmen tools.

picked this up from tarflies ( I cant track down the article on - line  :(  )

From this week's Entertainment Weekly fall TV preview issue:

Four continents, 13 countries, a lesbian and her father, an amputee, and $1 million... It's either the setup to a very bad joke or the partial lineup for the 10th Amazing Race. Executive producer Bertram van Munster says, "It's meltdown city on this whole trip." Host Phil Keoghan is more blunt. "There's a pain-in-the-ass team this year." Wait. Isn't there one every year? "One of the [new] things this season is that there's a strong alliance," says Keoghan. "Some teams decided to work together as a group." Uh-oh. Sounds like Big Brother With Plane Tickets to us.

The Amazing Race 10: A Look At The Teams
Click PLAY to meet the teams
The Amazing Race 10 Premieres Sept. 17 at 8:30 p.m.
(CBS4 News) MIAMI The four time Emmy award winning reality series, The Amazing Race, is kicking off a brand new season on a brand new night. The Amazing Race is once again pulling out all the stops as 12 teams of two people race around the world for a chance to win one million dollars.

Here’s a look at the teams:

Bilal and Sa’eed
Best Friends from Cleveland Ohio
These best friends have spent years bonding over their love of food, Browns football and their shared Islamic faith. While Bilal is energetic and outgoing, Sa'eed is quiet and passive. Their vastly different temperaments will be fun to watch as they attempt to navigate over 40,000 miles in under 30 days.

David and Mary
Married Parents from Stone, Kentucky
David & Mary are married parents who met while working at McDonald's 10 years ago. Although David did some traveling while he was in the Army, Mary can count on one hand the number of times she's been on a plane. This hard working couple is eager to expand their horizons and see the world together.

Duke and Lauren
Father and Daughter from Rhode Island
When Lauren told her family that she was gay, her father Duke didn't react well to the news and the two were estranged for several years. Now they are working on rebuilding their relationship and hope that the Race will help them recapture the closeness they once shared.

Dustin and Kandice
Best Friends
Dustin & Kandice met while rooming together at the Miss America pageant.
Rivals at first, they quickly became friends and have been inseparable ever since. Kandice is wild and impulsive, while Dustin is religious and more conservative. Their shared trait is that they are both intense competitors who thrive on winning. Dustin is the reigning Miss California from Riverside and Kandice is the reigning Miss New York from New York.

Erwin and Godwin
Brothers from San Francisco
These overachieving, super competitive brothers say they are ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Godwin has grown up in the shadow of his Harvard-educated brother and is eager to show Erwin and the rest of his family that he has what it takes to win THE AMAZING RACE. This Team's love for traveling the world and competing is infectious.

Kellie and Jamie
Best Friends from Columbia, SC
Don't let their Southern drawls fool you. These former co-captains of the University of South Carolina cheerleading squad are highly competitive and just might have what it takes to be the first female Team to win THE AMAZING RACE.

Lyn and Karlyn
Best Friends from Alabama
Lyn & Karlyn are two mothers from Alabama who have known each other since the ninth grade. Although they have limited traveling experience, the best friends are hoping that their resourcefulness and wit will make them the Team to beat.

Peter and Sarah
Friends from California
Peter and Sarah are both Iron Man competitors who have a long history of teamwork. Sarah recently became the first female with an artificial leg to complete the Hawaii Iron Man Triathlon. Peter works as a clinical prosthetist and travels the country speaking to amputees and consulting for prosthetic legs. Both are out to win and eager to show the world that a disability will not stop them from reaching their goals.

Rob and Kimberly
Dating Couple from Los Angeles, Ca.
Rob & Kimberly met while bartending and have been dating for the last two years. Their relationship has experienced some rocky moments, yet they recently decided to take a leap and move in together. They are both looking to the Race to test the strength of their relationship and prove to them that they are meant to be together.

Tom and Terry
Dating Couple from New York, NY
This feisty, fun-loving couple has been together for over two years. Their playful nitpicking is constant, but it always ends in shared laughter. Tom & Terry are hoping the Race will prove to them they have what it takes to stay together.

Tyler and James
Best Friends from Los Angeles, Ca.
Tyler & James are not your typical "pretty boys"; they've both had their share of hard knocks. After losing track of each other several years ago, they reconnected after going through rehab and have been best friends ever since. They're hoping their newfound lease on life will help carry them around the globe and across the finish line.

Vipul and Arti
Married Couple from Windermere, Fl.
Vipul & Arti are the first Indian-American Team to run the Race. Both speak several languages and are well-traveled. Vipul admits to being a bit overzealous, while Arti takes great pride in her ability to reign in his emotions and focus him in on his strengths--a skill she will undoubtedly be forced to call upon while racing around the world.

The Amazing Race 10 debuts Sunday September 17th at 8:30 p.m on CBS4

THE AMAZING RACE 10 features 12 Teams of two on a trek around the world for approximately 30 days.  At every destination, each Team will compete in a series of challenges -- some mental and some physical -- and only when the tasks have been completed will they learn their next destination.  Teams who are farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first Team to arrive at the final destination winning $1 million.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Bertram van Munster, Jonathan Littman and Hayma Screech Washington are the executive producers for Bruckheimer Television and Earthview Inc., in association with Touchstone Television and Amazing Race Productions.  THE AMAZING RACE was created by Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri.

Two reality shows take two ethnicity paths

By R.D. Heldenfels
Two reality shows on CBS will try to make points about diversity. One has done it more noisily.

Survivor: Cook Islands arrives at 8 p.m. Thursday with a deliberately provocative notion: four tribes of five people each, divided along strict ethnic lines, in competition with each other.

For any competition, that would invite controversy. Survivor's past lack of diversity makes it seem even more cynical.

The Amazing Race, meanwhile, which has embraced diversity in different forms in its runs, begins its new season on Sept. 17 at 8:30 p.m. with one of its most diverse casts, executive producer Bertram van Munster said at a news conference this summer.

One of the most visible differences is the inclusion of two Cleveland friends, Bilal Abdul-Mani and Sa'eed Rudolph, whose Islamic faith extends to their wardrobe.

They will compete against 11 other pairs, including a father-daughter team in which the daughter is gay; a couple ofIndian-American descent; a gay male couple; and a team with a clinical prosthetist and a woman who has an artificial leg -- recent ESPY award winner Sarah Reinertsen. Also, cheerleaders and models.

The casting of an Islamic team even as America is marking the fifth anniversary of Sept. 11 can be seen as a healing move. Van Munster has said they ``give a phenomenal image of who they are.'' It can also feel exploitative, although van Munster said the anniversary was not a factor in their selection.

Given Race's record on race, van Munster is believable. Survivor's plan is harder to digest, especially when shows like Amazing Race and Fox's American Idol have been more openly diverse than Survivor.

Jeff Probst, the host of Survivor, said the decision to deal more directly with race came out of regular preseason discussions. Looking for a new direction, the show's staff decided it needed to address the lack of diversity -- and possible stereotyping -- on the program.

Probst said that about 85 percent of the people applying to Survivor are white. If only for that reason, Probst said, the rare people of color on the show are like beacons when they do not do well.

At the same time, he said, there are plenty of ridiculous white people on the show, but ``you can find one or two (whites) to root for.''

In order to improve its diversity, the show expanded its casting search this time, seeking out people of color. (Somehow, one third of the 20 contestants still ended up being from Los Angeles, but that's another diversity issue.)

And as would-be contestants were interviewed, Probst said, ``we kept coming up with the same idea, ethnic pride.'' That led to dividing tribes along ethnic lines, which Probst had expected to be seen as a positive move.

But when it was announced, the show came under fire from critics and politicians. A number of sponsor pull-outs were announced, although Probst said the show lost some key sponsors months ago, before the theme was known.

Still, in a telephone news conference Thursday, Probst insisted that the resulting show will be thought of as one of the five best Survivor series ever, and that the change in cast and concept invigorated him and the show.

There are three different love connections, for example, a record number of blind-sides in Tribal Council -- and, in the second episode, a discussion within one tribe about stereotyping.

``The show, in our minds, rebirthed itself,'' he said, noting that many of the players had never seen Survivor -- unlike the thoroughly schooled competitors in some recent seasons. ``It really did energize us.''

And, he said, ``At the end of the day, you will see that we handled it responsibly.''

But we'll have to wait until the show airs to know for sure. Breaking with recent tradition, CBS is not making the first installment of Survivor: Cook Islands available for preview.

Still, Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan said, ``You can't have diversity just for the sake of diversity.... (Teams) ultimately have to be interesting.''

But how people are seen makes a difference in a competition.

``Everybody's going to face extra challenges based on how they look, what color skin they have, how they behave, whether they're unshaven,'' Keoghan said. ``The real world isn't fair.''

'Amazing' show of support: Three gays grace latest 'Race'

The new edition of the "Amazing Race" (premiering Sept. 17) will feature both Tom & Terry and Duke & Lauren...

...with the former team consisting of a gay couple of more than two years, and the latter a lesbian and her not-always-so-accepting father.

All racing to win...the chance to become the next Reichen.

It remains to be seen if the "Amazing" gay trio will be able to change some hearts and minds on their televised journey; though we're hoping that those who think sexuality is just a "Detour" on life's race, where one can choose whichever path they find the most desirable, will learn that these three's orientations are as predetermined as the non-elimination rounds.

Amazing Race visiting Bulls
05 September 2006

The Rangitikei Mail received an excited message from Bulls promotion coordinator Bronwyn Meads on Friday:

"I have been contacted by a story producer from Great Southern Television," Ms Meads said.

On Thursday September 14 the host of The Amazing Race Phil Cogan and a team of competitors will be hitting Bulls between 12.30-1.30, where there will be 10 minutes of television time filmed in town. These competitors will each get cash and they will be racing around the town trying to get as many Kiwiana items as they can in 10 minutes.

"So they may be visiting your business," Ms Meads warns Bulls business people.

What better publicity for Bulls than to be featured on a popular international prime time television show.

"They have stated if you don't want to be on TV then get someone else to take your place that day, as they only have this short time, and may be visiting your store."

The competitors are given some inspirational challenges along the way and want to engage in the community of Bulls. Ms Meads is sending the producer a list of relevant stores in the town.

"Let's make their visit a memorabull one," she says.

TOP 5 ?MUST-SEE? RETURNING SHOWS FOR 2006-2007
1. THE AMAZING RACE (CBS)
Premieres Sunday, September 17th at 8:30PM/7:30c
After highly criticized 8th and 9th seasons for the now four-time Emmy Award winning series, all eyes will be on this show?s milestone 10th season. The Amazing Race moves to a new night, where CBS hopes the show will finally gain some exposure. The new season includes a promised twist to the race course and a very diverse cast (which, unlike Survivor, was not touted by the producers).Needless to say, Race fans have a lot of high expectations for the 10th season. But not once in its last nine has The Amazing Race failed to deliver the drama, comedy, adventure, and thrill it has promised since its very first episode in 2001

IGN Interview: The Amazing Race's Phil Keoghan
 good read  !! ( thanks mwooden  !)

IGN TV: So how do you think Amazing Race 10 stacks up to the others?

Phil Keoghan: Great. It's different from any one. I think what's really cool is we went west, and we had more teams in an exotic location than we ever had before. Normally we build up to that, and then the best teams are left and we get to the really hard stuff. We put all of the teams into the hard stuff right from the get go, so it shocked a lot of them. A real major culture shock.
IGN TV: That being the case, did more teams really freak out right away?

Keoghan: Yeah, absolutely. They were freaking out and couldn't believe how intense it was. I mean it was baptism by fire and a lot of fish out of water.

Review: The Amazing Race 10--09/17/2006

Written By Rick Ellis, Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Since it's inception, "The Amazing Race" has remained one of my favorite reality shows.

Unlike "Survivor," the series is less about alliances than it is about street smarts and an ability to think on your feet. Every season, the teams are sent across the world and it never fails to amaze me how that challenge reveals the true character of a person.

To win "Amazing Race" requires a balance of brains and charm. You have to think strategically, yet so much of the results are left to the hands of fate. Unlike many reality shows, you can't skate by under the radar. Each challenge requires a strength and focus that weeds out the undeserving.

Another continuing strength of the show has been its casting, and the tenth season of the series is no exception. While the contestants do include the sadly typical mix of models, cheerleaders and future trophy wives, the cast also includes a Kentucky coal miner and his wife, a pair of friends from Alabama, two Muslims, a motivational speaker with a prosthetic leg and a father-daughter duo that already illustrate a weirdly dysfunctional relationship.

The 90-minute premiere episode kicks off in Seattle before heading quickly to China.

As you might imagine, the Chinese culture provides a fascinating backdrop for the challenges, although some of the contestants would probably be entertaining if they were careening through Des Moines.

Teammates Lyn and Karlyn are fascinated by the thought of being in China, with one of them remarking that "people in China love us folks from Alabama because of that movie 'Forrest Gump.'"

The coal miner's wife throws out what could be a classic "A.R" moment when she attempts to get a Chinese cab driver to speed up by yelling "Drive faster...quack, quack!"

As for strategy, Sarah--the young woman who an artificial leg--quickly realizes that she can use her handicap to get special access onto planes and other modes of transportation.

The episode flies by, and longtime viewers should be warned that there are some surprises this season. One of which pops up very unexpectedly at about the halfway point of the first leg, when host Phil Keoghan makes an unexpected appearance.

The producers take full advantage of the Chinese landscape, ending the first leg of the race with a brutal rope climb up the side of the Great Wall of China. It's a segment that is both harrowing to watch and also fascinating to see strictly on its visual terms. It's an almost perfect "Amazing Race" challenge, and it sets a high bar for the rest of the season.

I realize that "The Amazing Race" has changed nights this season, and there certainly are a lot of fine shows that also premiere this week. But if you can only watch one reality series this fall, watch "The Amazing Race."

It is....well.....amazing.

As if the promise of super adrenaline rush isn’t enough--we give you 10 super reasons to watch The Amazing Race 10!

1: Never-Seen-Before Diversity of Teams

This season’s contestants are the most diverse bunch in the history of The Amazing Race.

2: A One-Legged Race, literally...

Watch whether Peter and Sarah, both Iron Man competitors who have a long history of teamwork, have what it takes to beat the rest of the teams despite amputee Sarah’s artificial leg.

3: Family Feuds and Sibling Showdowns

Season 10 promises more emotional frenzy than ever before. If you think you’ve seen how nasty the tantrums and quarrels can possibly get, wait till you witness some of the meltdowns on The Amazing Race 10! Having grown up in the shadow of his Harvard-educated brother Erwin, will Godwin’s competitive side enrich or endanger the brotherhood? Contestants Lauren and her father Duke were estranged for several years and they are now trying to rebuild their relationship. Will the strain of The Amazing Race force a Detour in their path towards stronger kinship?

4: Will Love Save the Day?

Past seasons have seen their fair share of couples struggling towards the finish line. This time around, get set for more emotional roller coasters! Bartender Rob and his girlfriend Kimberly have dated for the last two years and recently moved in together--will they be able to overcome all odds to win the race?

5: Hunks and Babes Aplenty

Check out blonde beauties Dustin and Kandice--inseparable friends and Miss USA contestants who differ in personality while sharing a strong competitive streak. Their pageant rivalry may be a thing of the past but will tension rise between them when the going gets rough?

With their dashing good looks, models Tyler and James are sure to send pulses racing for multiple reasons! They have been best friends ever since their stints in rehab--will their newfound lease on life lead them to the finish line?

6: It’s Phil-tastic!

The man at the mat--who can resist Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race?

7: Exotic Locations, Tougher Challenges and Culture Shock

In another "first" for the show, contestants will cross the Pacific Ocean from Seattle, the starting point, in the very first leg of the season! Unlike in previous first legs, contestants will find themselves thrown in the deep end--in this case, Asia--right from the start! With language and cultural barriers sure to stump some, if not all, of the contestants, Season 10’s tough locations will make for some exhilarating and amusing viewing pleasure!

8: Get Yourself in the Mood for AXN’s Very Own, The Amazing Race Asia

By watching The Amazing Race 10, you can gear up for the much-anticipated The Amazing Race Asia, hosted by Singapore-based celebrity Allan Wu. The Amazing Race Asia will feature contestants selected out of a massive pool of Asian applicants--who knows, there might be Filipino contestants competing in that race! The Amazing Race Asia will be aired before the year ends. "It will be a homegrown treat for Asian fans of The Amazing Race series," says Ricky Ow, general manager of SPE Networks-Asia.

The Amazing 10, Episode 1 Preview
by Jenn Brasler -- 09/17/2006

Before the first episode airs, Jenn has a preview of the goings on, as well as her first impressions of the teams. Which pairs are exactly as she suspected they would be? Which are different than she thought? And how will this race be different than any other? Warning: This article contains minor spoiler information!

This season has already been touted as the most diverse race yet. We have an Indian-American team, an Asian-American team, a Muslim team, and an out lesbian. That’s a lot of firsts for one season.

But not everything will be different this time around. The basic format of the race is the same - teams of two who work together on various tasks around the world in an attempt to avoid elimination and ultimately win a million dollars. There is still the normal mix of teams: the dating couples, the married couples, the siblings, the friends. There are still strong teams and weak teams, smart teams and not-so-smart teams, teams who are underestimated and teams who are overestimated. And this point there’s no way to know who will win the million dollars, but first impressions of the teams can be indicative of what to expect later in the race. So here are mine, in no particular order:

Duke & Lauren: This father and daughter haven’t spent much time together lately, since Duke didn’t respond well when Lauren announced that she’s gay. But apparently they’ve smoothed things over enough to communicate well and enjoy the race together. Duke is the oldest contestant this season, but he’s going to be a major force to contend with.

David & Mary: Mary & David are mostly sweet, but watch out when things get tough: Mary will come out swinging. She looks like a sweet little housewife, but she has a lot of fight in her. They’re pretty consistent racers.

Karlyn & Lyn:
Lyn & Karlyn are the only racers who get on my nerves a little towards the beginning. They already have a team they don’t like, which may make them the Charla & Mirna or Alex & Lynn of the season. As for their racing, they may not do well on physical tasks, but the rest of the components of the race seem to be a piece of cake for them.

Erwin & Godwin: These brothers are strong and smart, but that’s not all the race is about - there’s also an element of luck. Unfortunately, they don’t have a whole lot of it. But fortunately, they’re in pretty good spirits anyway.

Kandice & Dustin: It’s incredibly difficult to tell these blonds apart, especially since they like to dress alike. Let’s hope they stop that. Dustin & Kandice look like dumb blonds, but there’s more to them than that. They know what they need to do to stay ahead and they try their hardest.

Vipul & Arti: These two are a really sweet couple (think Jon & Kris from season 6) and I like them pretty much immediately. They have nothing but nice things to say about each other, which I always like to hear. Unfortunately, they’re another team with a run of bad luck.

James & Tyler: James & Tyler first appear to be just another pair of models, but they’re actually much more than that - they met in recovery while battling drug addictions. They’re good racers and really know what they’re doing. If you’re worried that they’ll be like last season’s Eric & Jeremy, don’t be.

Kellie & Jamie: Between Jamie & Kellie, there may not be a lot of brains. But they do have a good sense of humor to make up for it. They’re both very friendly and take to meeting the other racers quickly. Like Kandice & Dustin, they work hard and stay focused on the task at hand.

Tom & Terry: Terry & Tom aren’t highlighted a great deal in the first episode, so it’s hard to see a lot of their personality. They seem like amiable guys, but they make it clear that they’re here for the competition, not the relationships they might form with other people. Whether that will hurt or harm them remains to be seen.

Sa’eed & Bilal: Bilal & Sa’eeed are nice guys and all of the other teams have nothing but good things to say about them. They’re devout Muslims, which means that no matter where they are, when it’s time to pray, it’s time to pray. This might not be a good thing in a race where minutes can matter. But it’s definitely nice to see a team who has that kind of depth.

Sarah & Peter:
Peter & Sarah were originally touted as friends, but they’ve actually been dating for a little while, too. They obviously respect and trust each other, having trained for the Ironman together, which means that they know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Peter comes across as a little intense, so let’s hope he doesn’t turn out to be as intense as Colin. Sarah’s prosthetic leg becomes a point of contention with some other racers who think she might be using it to her advantage. But Sarah is athletic enough to take care of herself when the time comes.

Kimberly & Rob: Rob says that Kimberly is controlling and he can’t be controlled. However, to me, it looks like Rob is really the person in control (or at least he thinks he is). I’m just counting the minutes until this team self-destructs. It remains to be seen how athletic they are and how far they’ll be able to get.

Phil warns the teams early on that there will be some surprises on the race, and he’s not kidding. The first surprise shows up on the first leg, and no one sees it coming (though one racer guesses it without even realizing it). I can’t tell you what the surprise is, of course, but it’ll keep the racers on their toes for the reason of the adventure.

As for the tasks, they aren’t much different from what teams have done in the past. There is a Roadblock on the first leg, which is rare, and it involves, food, unfortunately. The Detour offers a choice between a task that is physical but not necessarily time-consuming and a task that is less physical but possibly more time-consuming. Both require accuracy and attention to detail.

One rarity, however, is that teams must complete a very physical task in order to reach the Pit Stop. This means that teams who get to the location of the Pit Stop first won’t necessarily get to the mat first. Instead of a footrace to the mat, which is what we usually see, we see a different kind of struggle. It’s a good determination of who is physically fit and who will have more trouble with those kinds of activities.

The tenth season of The Amazing Race premieres Sunday, September 16th at 8:30 EST with an hour-and-a-half-long episode. There will be plenty of action and tension, as well as a lot of likeable teams and some unexpected twists. Don’t miss it!

“The Memories and Friendships Will Last Forever” – An Interview with The Amazing Race 10’s Arti & Vipul

Arti & Vipul were, sadly, one of the first teams eliminated from the race. Many people were upset to see them go since they were so likeable. Read on for their take on their main competition, what took them so long, and what fish eyes taste like.

The Amazing Race 10: 12 Teams Shot Out Of A Cannon

Amazing Race / Amazing Race
Date: Sep 21, 2006 - 01:15 PM
Things look promising for The Race on Sunday nights. One might have expected this quirky weekend television outpost timeslot to bleed The Amazing Race 10 of much of its rating starpower — wobbly though it is — but, behold, the 90-minute premier received a slightly higher audience (approx. 10.11 million viewers) than the premier of the fabled and routinely ostracized The Amazing Race: Family Edition did nearly one year ago. This is promising.

« The Amazing Race 10 September 24, 2006: "Can Horses Smell Fear?"All right, who's with me on the David-and-Mary bandwagon? Last week I was pretty well convinced I needed subtitles to understand a word these two were saying, but by now not only can I speak fluent Kentuckese, I can also finally have a team to root for. They're not at all shy about their lack of world experience, which at times can be downright endearing: "I've never known an Asian person in my life. The Cho brothers? I love 'em to death. Honest to goodness, we've never been around gay people. But hey, I like 'em!" Couple that with their unflappable patience (see: old Russian military jeep stuck fender-deep in the Mongolian mud) and effortless generosity (see: offering their leftover water to the single moms during the detour), and I really hope these two will be around for a while. I'm also impressed by the beauty queens so far ? the whole missing-helmet incident cost them a huge lead en route to the roadblock, but they more or less stayed positive the whole time. And let's not forget that Kandice had to be working with an awfully sore posterior after being dragged several yards by the stirrup of her horse. (I'm not sure which horse-related injury was worse, Kandice's ankle-yank-and-turf burn or the stray-branch wallop that knocked Kimberly clean out of the saddle ? and also out of her shoe.) Meanwhile, Peter and Sarah are working my last nerve; I'm just not on board with the way he barks motivations at her like she's a dog. If the back-and-forth between two detour tasks caused that much friction between them, I can only imagine the fireworks we'll see when the going gets really tough. That said, they're doing something right: first place at the pit stop and a trip to Mexico to boot. And our Philiminees this week? I guess I'll never get the chance to learn the difference between Kellie and Jamie ? in addition to coming in dead last, they couldn't even complete the flaming-arrow roadblock. (Speaking of which, how disconcerting was that challenge? I was worried that between the 10 remaining teams, they'd somehow manage to burn down all of Outer Mongolia.) Farewell, cheerleaders ? may your pom-poms always be fluffy.

Next week: pageant girls versus gay men! Duck and cover!

“We Even Sacrificed Packing Our Make-up So We Had Room for Power Bars!” - An Interview with The Amazing Race 10’s Kellie & Jamie
by Jenn Brasler -- 09/26/2006

Even after an early embarrassing moment, Kellie & Jamie were a well-liked team on the race and many were sad to see them go so soon. Here they tell Jenn how they prepared for the race, what their weaknesses were, and what they wish they’d done differently.

RealityNewsOnline: Hi, Kellie & Jamie. I really enjoyed watching you on the race. How did you prepare yourselves for the race?

Kellie & Jamie: We did so many physical and mental things to prepare for this race. We rock climbed, ran stadium stairs with our packs on, learned how to drive a stick shift, and worked out extra hard to build endurance! We also studied as many foreign languages as we could.

RNO: Other than Tom & Terry, who we saw you with a lot, did you bond with any other team?

Kellie & Jamie: We bonded a lot with all of the teams that were on the second bus to the train station. That bus included Tom & Terry, David & Mary, Erwin & Godwin, and Lyn & Karlyn. The long bus ride really gave us an opportunity to get to know everyone! We also had a bond with Vipul & Arti before they got eliminated.

RNO: Where did you wish you could have traveled to?

Kellie: I wanted to go to New Zealand, Greece, or Africa.

Jamie: I really wanted to go to Egypt and Switzerland.

RNO: Did you worry that your lack of travel experience would hurt you on the race?

Kellie & Jamie: We were definitely concerned with our lack of international travel experience, but we’ve traveled extensively in the U.S. The most challenging part of being overseas was the language barrier we encountered.

RNO: What did you think your strengths and weaknesses were, both as a team and as individuals?

Kellie & Jamie: Our competitive drive and positive attitudes were big strengths for us throughout the race. We also encouraged each other and kept each other calm and motivated in stressful situations. Our biggest weakness was our lack of foreign language skills.

Kellie: I think it’s obvious that my weakness was in shooting a bow and arrow.

RNO: Who did you think was going to be the team to beat?

Kellie & Jamie: Before we even had talked to any of the teams, we were most intimidated by the Cho brothers. They seemed very smart and looked physically fit.

RNO: Have you had to suffer a lot of teasing because of your Buddha remark in the first episode?

Kellie & Jamie: (laughing) We certainly have. What people don’t know is that we nicknamed them the Buddha Brothers before we knew they were Muslim, so that was the root of the question. That wasn’t our brightest moment.

RNO: We’ve seen a lot of teams with two young, pretty women on them before. How did you try to set yourselves apart from them when you auditioned?

Kellie & Jamie: We have never seen another girl team on the race as enthusiastic as us! Unlike some other girls teams in the past, we were completely concentrated on the race and not sidetracked by the cute boy team. We even sacrificed packing our make-up so we had room for power bars!

RNO: What were your favorite moments on the race?

Kellie & Jamie: Every moment of the race was truly amazing. We really enjoyed seeing China and Mongolia, and the best part was that we got to experience it together. Beating the Cho bros up the Great Wall was pretty fun, too!

RNO: Is there anything you wish you had done differently?

Kellie & Jamie: We wished that we would have stuck with other teams rather than running our own race. As long as you are with another team, you know you aren’t alone and potentially last.

RNO: Do you know how far you were behind the other teams or how long you took at the Roadblock?

Kellie & Jamie: We knew that we were a good deal behind the other teams. The whole day we felt like we were playing catch-up. Once we would get caught up, something else bad would happen to us. It was frustrating because a lot of the mishaps were out of our control. When we arrived at the Roadblock, we saw Lyn and Karlyn running out of the front of the Hotel Mongolia. Before Kellie started the Roadblock, we already knew we were the last team. Even after knowing that, we were still out there for hours wanting to complete the task. 117 arrows later, we realized our time was up.

RNO: Is there anything else you want to say to people?

Kellie & Jamie: We want people to know that we really enjoyed the race and getting to see the countries we saw. It was a great experience and brought our friendship to a whole new level. We are forever grateful for the experience!

RNO: Thank you! I hope you had as much fun on the race as you looked like you were having.

Amazing Race Cheerleaders Are D! O! N! E!
by Rochell D. Thomas

Kellie and Jamie had hoped to be the first female team to win The Amazing Race. They wanted to joke with Phil [Keoghan], see Madagascar or Vietnam, and maybe spend some of the cash they slyly made off their looks during the first leg (more on that later). But, as is always the case in a globe-trotting contest, you don't always get what you want. And, after they made a wrong turn during the second leg's detour, the cheerleaders from South Carolina became the third team eliminated from The Amazing Race 10.
TV Guide.com: How many vaccination shots did you have to get before you started the race?
Kellie: Oh gosh, it was a lot.
Jamie: Seven or eight.

TVGuide.com: What was the weirdest?
Kellie: We had to get a Japanese encephalitis shot, and it was really funny because the nurses were so confused. They were like, "Are you going to be around pigs, or in China?" We said, "We don't know," and they said, "Why are you getting this then?" and we're like, "Our family planned a surprise vacation?"

TV Guide.com: Well, you did make it to Mongolia.
Both: Well, we tried.

TVGuide.com: What does Mongolia smell like?
Kellie: All we remember is the smell of camel poo. But Mongolia is absolutely beautiful. The mountains were pretty.

TVGuide.com: Random question: Were Tom and Terry always so "Just Jack!" enthusiastic?
Both: They're really like that.
Jamie: But we love those guys.
Kellie: And when we got on the train that took us to Mongolia, we shared a little cabin and we had an absolute ball.
Jamie: We were on the bus with them. So we got to hang out with them for eleven hours straight.

TVGuide.com: Speaking of the bus, I read on the CBS website that it was a 963-mile ride. What does one do on a bus for 963 miles?
Both: Sleep.
Jamie: Well, we didn't know when we got on the bus if it was going to be an 11-hour ride or if it was going to be a 30-minute ride. So you sleep for a little bit and then you wake up and you grab your backpack thinking, "OK. They're slowing down. Are we getting off?" So we were kind of on edge. But we got to know all the teams better because that was one of the first times we had nothing to do.

TVGuide.com: How did you know how much food to bring? Or did they provide food during a rest stop?
Both: No!
Kellie: Well, Jamie and I brought protein bars with us on the race because we didn¹t want to spend money on food.
Jamie: We probably brought 30 each. We were fortunate that we brought those because some of the teams on the bus didn't have anything and literally didn't eat the whole time.

TVGuide.com: Did you give them to Tom and Terry?
Jamie:  We tried.
Kellie:  We wanted to give them our leftover money and protein bars, but we weren't allowed to see the teams once we were eliminated.

TVGuide.com: So how much money did you have left?
Jamie: We actually had a lot — like $140 — because we were one of the few teams that collected money along the way.

TVGuide.com: What do you mean, you "collected money"?
Kellie: When we were on the shuttle to go to the airport, there was a really nice family, and they knew we were obviously on some kind of show but they didn't know which one and they were like, "Do you guys need money?" and they gave us $70. Then when we were on the flight to Beijing there was a man that exchanged American money for Chinese money with us and he gave us a really good rate.
Jamie: So we made money off that exchange.

TVGuide.com: Were you two working the puppies, showing boobage? I'm trying to understand this random act of generosity.
Both: [Laughs] No, we were not.
Jamie: We were looking rough, actually. Maybe we just looked so desperate that they just gave us [money].

TVGuide.com: Did any other teams get help along the way?
Jamie: They might have. We don't know.
Kellie: A lot of times, if they get money they won't tell you because they don't want you to know they have a one-up on you.

TVGuide.com: Speaking of one-ups, when I talked to Vipul and Arti, they said that you were one of the fastest teams up the Great Wall.
Kellie: We were. It was kind of funny because a lot of the guys were trying to use upper-body strength. And there's no way you can get up that wall with upper-body strength. So we used our legs.
Jamie: It was really cool because when we got to the wall we saw that there were five teams and we panicked because we were behind. But we didn't stop. We just motivated each other, used our cheerleading skills and flew up that wall.
Kellie: Jamie and I rock-climb sometimes for fun, and that really helped us, too.

TVGuide.com: What did you do after you were eliminated?
Jamie: We actually had to stay a day or two in Mongolia. And that gave us a lot of time to just sit and dwell on the woulda-coulda-shouldas.
Kellie: And pout.
Jamie:  We were extremely upset when we got eliminated. We put our heart into this 110 percent.… I mean, everything we had. And we didn't expect to get out that early.
Kellie:  You never can expect that. We ran into some bad luck, but we're still thankful for the experience. Best experience ever.

TVGuide.com: About that bad luck. So, before you made that U-turn and passed the single-mother team, you were going in the wrong direction?
Kellie: The thing is, we stopped to make sure we were going the right way, and this lady pointed us in the opposite direction. We were like, "That's weird." So we stopped again just to double-check, and a different person pointed in the same direction. We asked a third person, and they said the same thing. So when we saw the moms pass us, we were like, "Oh, they don't know it's this way!" We drove for a while before figuring that we were totally in the wrong direction. By the time we got there, Lyn and Karlyn had already finished the bow and arrow.
Jamie: They were running out while we were running in. So we knew at that point that we were last, and that was the tough part.
Kellie: That was really hard. And then I took on that roadblock, and I had never shot a bow and arrow in my life.

TVGuide.com: So you shot them even though you knew you were eliminated?
Jamie: She shot 117 bows and arrows. She's a trooper.
Kellie: I was out there for three or four hours. Jamie and I always said, "No matter what, we're never going to give up." So I tried. It was so hard. My hands were bleeding.
Jamie: They just kept bringing bushels and bushels of arrows.
Kellie: I was like, "Are these arrows ever going to run out?" But as long as they were bringing them I was going to be shooting them. I'm surprised I didn't catch myself on fire, I shot so many.

Exclusive The Amazing Race Interview: Duke and Lauren
We talk with the father/daughter team about their experiences on the race.
by Staci Krause
IGN TV: Which teams did you form friendships with?

Lauren: We really formed friendships with every team. In our way, I would say that we became very close with Peter and Sarah, especially on the train ride to Mongolia. We had shared a sleeper cabin with them.

Duke: Spend sixteen hours with somebody, you are bound to get close to them.

Lauren: But we also got very close with David Jr. and Mary, and Tom and Terry, and Jamie and Kelly, and Alabama. We got close on many levels.

Another Duke & Lauren interview

The Amazing Race’s Amazing Father/Daughter Team
by Robert Urban, October 4, 2006

Last Sunday on CBS’ globe-spanning, Emmy Award-winning reality show, The Amazing Race, father/daughter team Duke and Lauren Marcoccio were the last team to reach a rice paddy in Vietnam and were eliminated from the competition. Though The Amazing Race has featured openly gay contestants before (most famously, Lance Bass’ boyfriend, Reichen Lehmkuhl, who won The Amazing Race 4 with his former partner, Chip Arndt), Lauren was the show’s first openly lesbian contestant.

Lauren and her father underwent a difficult time in their relationship when she came out to him, and together they entered The Amazing Race with the shared hope that it would, according to the show’s official website, “help them to rebuild their relationship and recapture the closeness they once shared.” AfterEllen.com spoke with the pair shortly after their elimination from the show.

Q: How long does "The Amazing Race" actually take? 3 weeks? A month?    —Nicole

A: It depends upon the season. Because the route varies every year, so does the length of time that the teams take to circumnavigate the globe.

The first season of “The Amazing Race” was filmed over 39 days, just like “Survivor.” Season three took 29 days. The family edition, season eight, reportedly was filmed over just three weeks and three days.

Ultimately, though, the actual production takes about a month.

However, team members have talked about being away from their lives for about two months. In part, that’s because they’re sequestered before the race, possibly for a week or more before they’re even cast. And they don’t just go home when they’re eliminated, instead traveling to an undisclosed location to vacation until they show up to line the path to the finish line.    —A.D.

Sarah & Peter interview @ IGN:
Amazing Race Exclusive Interview: Peter & Sarah
The eliminated team talks about their relationship, the race, and what team they had the most conflict with.
by Eric Goldman
October 24, 2006 - This week saw Peter & Sarah, one of the season's most noteworthy teams, eliminated from The Amazing Race 10. While fans were inspired by Sarah's determination, as she took part in the race with a prosthetic leg, it was impossible not to note that Peter & Sarah were falling apart as a couple as the race progressed. Peter earned the scorn of many, who felt he wasn't respectful of Sarah and was often dismissive of her.

By the time Peter & Sarah were eliminated, it seemed their time as a couple was over, with Sarah saying that she'd learned a lot of new things about Peter throughout the race, and they didn't seem to mark him as the right guy for her.

We spoke to the team, who have been friends and fellow Ironman competitors for seven years, to see what their current status is and what they could tell us about their time on The Amazing Race.

IGN TV: It looked like they didn't have you actually complete the detour.

Sarah: I think it was a matter of, at that point, it was dark and it was clear that we were so far back. I don't know logistically some of the stuff, but we don't really know what goes on. But I know that one of the tasks did close, because the market closed.

IGN TV: On the very first episode, we saw Lyn and Karlyn express some anger towards you guys, including over you getting to board a plane first. Were you aware of that during the race, or did you learn about it watching the show?

Sarah: Well Karlyn was never really nice to us, ever. It was the sort of behavior where at the pit stop, you'd congratulate the other racers, and say, "Good job. Well done today." And you would say that to her, and she wouldn't even acknowledge you. Wouldn't even smile, wouldn't even say, "Oh hey, thanks." Just wouldn't even talk to you. So I knew there was something about me that she didn't like.

Peter: She's just jealous. We outran her to the forbidden city. It really pissed her off. I don't know if you knew this, but they finished second. Sarah and I went just running by them in the final stretch and I think she was always a little bit embarrassed, because Sarah outran her. You know, we used the disabled card and she used the race card.

IGN TV: Do you think you outrunning her established her negative feelings?

Sarah: I think she's just kind of that negative person, actually, watching how she's treated a lot of the other racers, not just me. It's like, I think she sort of lost perspective. Look, it's a race. It's a game. We're gonna play all the cards we have. And here's the thing: I don't ask for extra time credit, because it's harder for me to do a physical task, you know? So if I can get an edge somewhere, I gotta take it! Because I'm working harder. And look, boarding a plane early or whatever, that doesn't give us a huge time advantage. It's about getting your bags in a good placement, so you know they're right ahead of you, so you can get off the plane and rock.

Peter: I think what sums up Karlyn is when you saw Dustin cut her leg and end up getting like eight stitches in Vietnam. Karlyn was very happy and was glad that Dustin actually cut her leg and she saw that she was bleeding. There's a big difference of cutting someone in line or using a disabled thing to get on a plane and board early, to being malicious and being happy someone was physically hurt. And I think that shows Karlyn's true colors.

IGN TV: You said you felt she used the race card. Can you give an example of that?

Peter: You know, there's nothing that you see in the show for the most part, as of right now. But it's very evident that she uses that.

IGN TV: Of the teams left in the race, who were you rooting for the most?

Peter: I'm rooting for Dustin & Kandice. The other teams are all aligning, like Rob & Kim are following James & Tyler, and I literally mean following them. And the rest of them -- Kentucky, Alabama and the Cho Brothers -- are all working together, because they're not strong individually, but they're strong as a group. I have a lot of respect for Dustin & Kandice, because they're running their own race, and they're very smart, they're aggressive, and they're physically strong. I have a lot of respect for solid competitors, that don't rely on anybody.

Sarah: I have to say that the Barbies really are running an impressive race, and I think that there haven't been two women in the final round. And so they are certainly showing the world how strong a duo like them can be, and it's impressive to see.

IGN TV: Well, there's been a lot of rumors about an All-Stars season.

Sarah: You never know, and you keep the hope alive.

Okay, I know I've asked before. BUT...

Is there not ANY way some of you techies out there with Sprint could figure out how to share the "Mat Chats" with those of us who don't have Sprint? That's one of the most frustrating parts of this season for me--and who ever approved that should be strangled with a telephone cord!

Mary & David stayed with Terry in NY over the weekend..lol. They said people recognized them in NY. Mostly they talk about Mary's big heart ,,its really sweet.

Map News
I'll put this here for now because there's no tech thread where we can gab about maps, search engines, video codecs, etc. A9 maps, the maps with street-level photos that we used in TARFE, is kaput. The guy that created the drive-by photo spreads now works for Google, so there's some speculation that Google may incorporate such stuff in the future. And on the topic of Google competition, Windows live local, apparently not satisfied with the "bird's eye view" feature, now has 3d modeling of major cities (separate download; open up WLL and you should see a link in the sidebar).
I'll file this under "you've got to be kidding." I took the feature for a test drive. WRP, check; Hollywood sign, check; when I looked at Grauman's Chinese I noticed a glitch. Tilting the camera back revealed a giant virtual billboard for a December movie called Eragon.  :groan:

According to this article (http://www.calgarysun.com/cgi-bin/publish.cgi?p=157803&x=articles&s=showbiz), Lauren is a crossover from the Survivor applicant pool; I don't know if Erika was personally involved.

:cmas23 Just a programming note: GSN will restart with TAR1 beginning Tuesday morning. If you plan on recording, be sure and check the listings every day because GSN scheduling can be very inconsistent.

One of the perks of having Phil's job: CBS and AA (and probably the Ritz-Carlton group) pay for your vacations (luxe all the way  :martini: ). CBS makes an inflight magazine called Watch (http://www.cbs.com/watch_magazine/). Download the Winter (http://www.cbs.com/watch_magazine/images/watch_magazine_winter06.pdf) issue (page 48) for details on his trip to St. Thomas after TAR9 and the Fall (http://www.cbs.com/watch_magazine/images/watch_magazine_fall06.pdf) issue (page 40) for info about his Shanghai vacation after TAR10. (Elle seems unimpressed, though...or maybe just tired )
