Don't know if anybody cares, but I just got word from a friend of mine doing field work in Panama that he was accosted by several Americans in white vans, cameras in tow, looking for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's boat dock (http://www.si.edu/archives/historic/stri.htm). Evidently, CBS invaded Panama with a vengeance. Also, the person asked him if he spoke English, IN FRENCH, which I find VERY amusing.

July 14 - Leave after New Orleans Pit Stop (night of July 13); fly to Belize City, Belize. Two early morning flights: American at 5:59 and USAirways at 6:00AM)
July 15 - Complete tasks in Belize and fly to Panama
July 16 - Panama.
Now the big question where do they go between Panama and Montreal?????

I keep on hearing that the teams were held in Belize. So maybe they don't do anything in Belize. Do you hear anything? I can't find the original source.

I think the actual destination and likely pit stop in Panama will be the Barro Colorado (http://www.stri.org/english/visit_us/barro_colorado/index.php). Which is accessed by 'the dock' because it is an island.

There were reports last July that there was trouble in River City (I mean Belize City) and that perhaps one teams was thrown out of the race which is the source for the speculation that 11 teams did begin the race, and through clever digital editing the editors removed them from Eps 1 - 4 (but they didn't catch it all leaving 11 cars in New YOrk, 10 stretchers in Middleburg, and 9 jeeps in Charleston.) It will be interesting to see if after Belize we only see the same number of things as teams are racing.
Interesting note on this subject. In Brooklyn the Paolos are seen leaving in the tenth car. In Charleston, Mama Paolo says "we got the LAST CAR again" If this is true, then the Paolos got the 11th car in New York, otherwise it would not be the last car.

part because there are little kids involved, and in part because entire
families are involved. Another factor: The show has grown popular

coverage wherever the racers show up. This unwelcome attention has
been interfering with the running of the race. The remaining racers
are being held in Belize while the producers of the show decide what to
do next.

Sorry for vanishing on you all, but I have been in the middle of a move! To address the TAR family season. From what I hear, they are having a lot of problems with it and it may actually not be a rumor that it all gets canned. (I can't tell you my sources so don't even ask!haha) Personally, I think it would be a blessing in disguise because TAR is not meant for children!

I'm really disappointed that it's taking TAR so long this time to take the show on the road. Normally, by Episode 4, my wife and I have some great travel ideas. But now it's, "Gosh, I'd really like to go to that Amish farm," or "Hey, honey, that large office chair looks REALLY appealing, doesn't it?"
Some of the best moments seem to happen when the contestants take to the air. Airport stress is THE BEST!
One thing I have to say is that I have yet to be annoyed this season with one of those situations where teams one through 99 get to a sign that says the place doesn't open up until Thursday after next. That really gets to me. The team in the lead immediately loses any advantage.

So the bungee jumping must be the Fast Forward task. The bridge in the background is called the Bridge of the Americas. I looked on google earth and there are plants/refineries to the south of the bridge and cruise docks to the north. I've also seen a couple of ball fields but can't tell which one yet.
Can you believe these Paolos!!!! Told ya they are the Meredith and Gretchen of last season. No one thought they had a chance in hell of making it this far.

I know. Those moments really screw up the show, don't they? Well, there were two moments where the teams were bunched back up (somewhat). The first time was at that Philadelphia park, and the second time was at the mobile home place. Tightened the teams up, but then it was leave at the designated times. Really screwy, isn't it?

Some thoughts of Panama.
Flights to Panama. They will probably flight directly to Panama City via Houston or New Orleans. Copa Airlines is huge in Panama and is associated with Continental Airlines. Taca has some flights though El Salvador to Panama, leaving from Houston or New Orleans. American Airlines has 3 direct flights to Panama, I think leaving from Miami. I don't remember what other airlines flies there, but I am sure there are one or two more. Since they receive the clues at night, I am pretty sure there are no flights arriving at late at night to Panama ( I think the last one arrives at 11 PM from Miami ), they should leave early the next morning. The flight from New Orleans or Houston should take 3 hours.
They sure are on the Panama Canal.
When they are on the boats it appears to be the Pacific ocean (because of the tides) you see on the picture.
One more thing, apparently they are going to a rainforest, it could be Barro Colorado. It can only be access by boat. There are several others ( Parque Nacional Darien or Parque NAcional Chagres ) but I think this are the most popular.

Panama > Barro colorado island
Barro Colorado Island is part of the Barro Colorodo National Monument, an ecological natural reserve administered by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute since 1946. It is about 1500 hectares and STRI's primary site for the study of lowland moist tropical forests.
Since it is mainly a research station with modern laboratory facilities, only a limited number of tourists are allowed to tour the island with a proper guide during the day. As you tour the island through thick jungle, you will get to see monkeys, anteaters, rodents, tropical birds, exotic plants and flowers, and you will ocassionally encounter scientists from STRI or American universities doing research. There is an inventory of 1369 plant species, 93 mammal species (including bats), 366 avian species (including migratory) and 90 species of amphibians and reptiles.
The only way to get there is by taking an early morning, beautiful boat ride from a small port at about 38 km from Panama City, and the visit needs to be arranged with STRI. The best way to arrange one is with a Panamanian eco-tour operators. But be sure you are being taken to Barro Colorado ISLAND, not to one of the other islands within the natural reserve.

I think the Gaghan mom is OK. The van driver already stepped on the brake. We can see the red tail light. Generally, the van should go forward instead of going backward. If he has to back up, then he can see the Gaghans in the rear view mirror.

Street maps of the city are hard to find; the best I could find so far is this hotel map (http://www.ipat.gob.pa/visita_panama/m_p_ciudad.html). Based on the photo perspective (bridge and docks in the background) (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR_EP5/a4c21f68.jpg) it looks like everything is close together: airport, baseball field, bungee jump (pier #17 or #18 maybe), casco viejo and the ferry landing for STRI.

I found the Fast Forward bungee location on google earth. Puddin, can I e-mail you a couple of pictures and you can shrink them or whatever you do and post them? If I post them they will be huge.

I saw the other set too. The ones I had identified (2 side by side) look like the lay flat just like the others (3). I thought it really could be either set but looking at all the background photos of the Paolos thought the 2 were it. I think the crane in the background matched the first set better. But yeah, they're right around the corner from each other.

Supsandalee, yeah, I just went back and tried the perspective view from the double set of cranes and it looks just as good. Kind of a toss up. I was just about to cross check against the footage of the eplace where the diablo rojos go.

but look like the cameraman flashes a flood light so close to the papa and he has to look away to avoid it. The ceiling of the van is so bright. And in the back of the van looks like a car headlight and not a sunlight.

How can they set up a bird watching task????
Maybe there are "fake" birds hidden amongst the trees and they have to find a certain number and circle on the field guide. It would be difficult to track if they saw a real bird, unless they have a human guide with them, confirming they really saw a "live" bird.
It's sort of a krazi idea, but thought I would throw it out there.

It looks like a night shot but if it is what exactly does that mean? If indeed they succeed at the fast forward then maybe the pit stop is far away and other teams pit late at night too? The Paolos look happy (as happy goes in the Paolo family).

When I saw the birdwatching footage I thought this must be where the scarlet macaw (intro vidcaps) shows up. Now I'm not so sure. This page (http://www.businesspanama.com/tourism/rainforest_ecotourism.php) states that Coiba Island, a remote penal colony, is the last refuge for the macaw in Panama. Belize and Costa Rica (http://photo.net/cr/moon/birds.html) seem more likely.

The families depart from New Orleans, La. and head to Barro Colorado Islanda in Gamboa, Panama.

I saw the circling of the birds. I was just wondering if anyone has a theory on the task. #1 Detour or Task? (We know the roadblock is baseball.) #2 Any idea on how it may be conducted? The fake bird is what got me thinking about this. Maybe they have a guide (person) verifying that they actually "saw" the bird they circled on the field guide? I don't think they would just give them a guide sheet and let them go. If it is a detour, what could be the other choice?

I have been to the Panama City airport, it is not as big a US airports, but it is not tiny either. Major US airlines arrive there, like AMerican , Continental, US Airways, etc. And Jets definitely land there.

We got ourselves a heck of a lot of stuff to digest; seems to be an awful lot of activity going on down thar in Panama.
First: Shot of the Bransens (#24) reading route clue about flying to Panama City can anyone make out the TAR Route sign in the back ground? New Orleans or Belize?
Quick check of flights from New Orleans (MSY) to Panama City (PTY) and we have:
Continental Flight 522 leaving at 12:17PM arriving 6:24PM
American Flight 939 leaving at 1:45 PM arriving at 8:24PM
Delta Flight leaving at 1:30PM arriving at 9:00PM
American flight 877 leaving at 10:52AM arriving at 8:24PM
Continental flight 1422 leaving at 11:05AM arriving at 8:24PM
And there are no direct flights, all connecting through cities such as Houston, Dallas or Miami.\
And there may be other flights not listed with Travelocity (who is a sponsor afterall)
Flights from MSY to Belize (BZE)
American leaving at 5:59AM arriving at 11:14AM
USAirways leaving at 6:00 arriving at 10:54AM
American leaving at 6:46AM arriving at 1:26PM
American leaving at 8:54AM arriving at 2:35PM
Flights from BZE to PTY
TACA leaving at 5:15PM arriving at 11:30PM

No matter whether they leave from MSY or BZE for PTY it looks like the flights all are going to arrive in the evening. And if they are going directly to Panama from N.O they will have a good long wait at the airport if scene #24 is correct and it is at the pit stop at Preservation Hall that they get the clue for Panama. It is dark in this scene but does the BG look like the same garden where the pit stop was located. And again if this is correct, that leaves no time for any other task to be filmed in N.O. which really seems strange to come all this way to a fairly popular tourist mecca and do nothing but run to Preservation Hall. And then go to the airport the nect morning. Very strange.
And so far all the scenes from Panama seem to be in daylight; but if they arrive on any of the listed flights they would have to camp out waiting for something to open the next day (which we do seem to have a scene of)
And finally, as someone suggested, why can't the pit stop be after the bird watching gig on the same remote island? If this were so, the Paolos would still have to take the same small boat down the river/canal as the other teams. They just would go directly to the pit stop without doing the baseball, bird watching, and hoochy goochy gigs. This has been done before.

It is very difficult to find out flights from New Orleans now after Katrina. But TACA and Copa should have flights out of New Orlenas to Panama. Copa is Panama official airline. Racers should go to Houston or Miami where there would be a lot of flights to Panama City. (AA has 3 daily flights to Panama from Miami). Usually flights to Central American countries leave in the morning and come back to the states the same day. And the flight time should be no longer than 3-3:30 hours.
Another thing why would the go to Belize, when they have bigger and more cultural countries in the rest of Central America. I dont think that Belize is either a country visited or Sequeterville. Chosing Panama and Costa Rica are good choices. But not Belize.

After reading the CBS clue "Two teams race for the fast forward on a course where they must face a fear of extreme heights", I had a scary thought. What if the bungee jumping is just part of the course and they have to swim to the boat where their families are? AND, what if another team could be doing the same thing on the other crane at the same time? They wouldn't allow the Gaghans to attempt the FF unless the Paolos failed, right??? Like the water tower from last season when Rob & Amber had to wait and see if Ray & Deanna finished.

If our calendar is correct, we have the teams in New Orleans at the Preservation Hall pit stop on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 13.
So they would leave around 1 or 2AM the morning of Thursday, July 14.
And we have a fairly reliable source spotting the teams looking for the Smithsonian Boat Dock in Panama on Saturday July 16.
If they took flights to Panama early in the day on Thursday, July 14 they would arrive in Panama on the evening of July 14.,so we have a lot of time unaccounted for. Even if they took a 36 hour pit stop in N.O they still would arrive in Panama on July 15.
Another thing. I am pretty certain that the next leg (Leg #5) is going to be an NEL. If it is an elimination leg then we have five teams left and 6 eps still to air which would mean a few NELs in a row. And I think we did have a spotting of five teams in Montreal (four on a flight from Toronto) and one from Chicago direct. Will go back and check on this. And according to Phil at the beginning (without saying how many legs we had) this TAR would have 7 ELIMINATION LEGS.

Another thing why would the go to Belize, when they have bigger and more cultural countries in the rest of Central America. I dont think that Belize is either a country visited or Sequeterville. Chosing Panama and Costa Rica are good choices. But not Belize.
Sequesterville may very well be CostaRica or Panama , both have zipline stuff but still we have the other stuff about Belize ? where does it fit in?

Sorry for vanishing on you all, but I have been in the middle of a move! To address the TAR family season. From what I hear, they are having a lot of problems with it and it may actually not be a rumor that it all gets canned. (I can't tell you my sources so don't even ask!haha) Personally, I think it would be a blessing in disguise because TAR is not meant for children!

Another thing that bugs me that tells me that Belize is not Sequesterville, is that the Aiellos told us that they spent time shopping.
Shopping in Belize or Costa Rica is kind of ridiculous because everything is imported. And compared to US prices, things are really expensive. And why fly all the teams out of country to go to Sequesterville instead of running the race outside the US. Just thinking.
The teams should be taking a flight to Panama July 14 (morning), do the tasks in Panama july 15. And for me this will be a To be Continued episode.!!!!! {|

Thought that the opening shot of the plane taking off from New Oreleans (?????) looked funny; flying over the surf crashing on the beach which certainly was not Lake Pontchartrain which would be the case if the plane were indeed taking off from MSY; and it indeed is a takeoff of KLM 747 from LAX recycled from TAR 4.
Why?
If recorded takeoffs from MSY actually were for planes headed to BSE, it might be easy to spot the error, so just add any old takeoff from the file cabinet when the v.o. says "leaving the country."

Hard to figure out a timeline for the stay in Panama since it is not clear which event come where. Do they do the baseball gig before the trip up the canal from Panama City to the Barro Colorado Islands which are across the peninsula at Gamboa, Panama?
It may be that from wherever the teams arrive they first have to wait for an opening somewhere early the next morning (we seem to see almost all the teams bunched up somewhere at what looks like an early morning vista.)
I haven't been in Panama for 48 years and when I was there the Canal Zone was a world unto itself; now the canal is just part of the Republic of Panama.
ADDED OBSERVATION: NO MENTION OF 'LATEST FAMILY TO BE CASTAWAY' ON THE EARLY SHOW during promo this morning on CBS Sunday Morning. And I would think that it is now time for the first elimination. Otherwise we would be down to five teams, and we have a sighting of five teams in Monteal which would mean at least 3 NEL's in a row. And IF there is a NEL this week, I hope they come up with a new gimmick so that we don't have the Gaghan kids begging on the streets of Panama.

Drive along the Gaillard Highway passing Albrook and Clayton on your right and the Miraflores locks on your left.
Continue past the Pedro Miguel locks, past the community of Paraiso, past the Summit Golf Club and go under a small railroad bridge inscribed 1929.
Immediately after the underpass, turn left on to Gamboa Road.
Pass the entrance to the Summit Botanical Garden on your right.
After approximately 11 kilometers you will arrive at a single-lane bridge that crosses the river to Gamboa.
To STRI dock (follow the signs from the Gamboa bridge): After crossing the bridge, continue straight. Pass the former gas station and the ACP dock (Dredging Division) on your left, and the Gamboa Post Office and the colorful Santa Cruz houses on your right. Before this road turns to the right, take the sand road to the left to the STRI dock.

When I first saw the "uprights" I thought they were overhead lines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhead_lines) and on the right side of the photo was a rail line. But I think Panama uses standard locomotives, so maybe they're just power poles. Two things we know: it's early (shadows); and as Puddin wrote earlier, nobody seems in a big hurry.

I found this pic from a panama canal site. It definately runs along the canal. From Google Earth I could see it running from below the Miraflores Locks to the Pedro Miguel Locks. I don't know where the teams are since it is a long track. The Miraflores Visitors Center opens at 9 a.m. so maybe that's where the teams have to wait at the gate for opening??
As for the Weavers .. maybe someone had to confirm they completed a task that took them a long time (like the bird watching) and they just got excited that they finished? Don't know.

I'm not sure but the Visitors Center seems to be the only way to access the locks. Here's some shots of it and some speculation.
The information on the center is interesting. It talks about getting there by bus (some are old school buses) but more interesting is that the buses only drop you off at the front during specific hours. Otherwise, you'll get dropped off at the main hwy and have to walk 5-10 minutes. Maybe that's what the Linzs and Godlewskis are doing since the pics of the railroad run along there as well. If they know they don't open until 9 a.m they wouldn't necessarily be in a hurry. And wouldn't this be a good place to make teams race around and get clues??

"The new visitors center at Miraflores Locks has recently opened to the public, and is open daily between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The center faces the Locks, resides just in front of the control tower, and has four floors; from any of the three floors photos can be taken of the locks from their respective balconies.
Getting to Miraflores Locks
From Panama City, you can either take a public bus or taxi. The buses depart from a terminal known as "SACA", which is situated in downtown. From there you can take either of two buses, Summit Gardens or Paraiso.
There are two style buses that service Miraflores, a newer air-conditioned bus and the older school bus style. The newer bus costs $0.50 and the older $0.35. During the hours of 4:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. these buses drive right to the entrance to the locks. I'm having trouble with this one due to the really weird solar arc for this location.
The sun is never gets to more than 70 deg of azimuth. The arrow I made above is at 85 degrees.
I have to put the boat closer to the docks to get 70 degrees.
From the SEMA plot you can see that the sum climbs up almost vertically with an azimuth of 70 degrees.
To get a time I will have to estimate the solar altitude. That is kind of fuzzy considering the wide angle shot.
I'd say it looks like 35 plus or minus 10 degrees.
That gives 8:41 am as most likely between 7:58 and 9:25 am.

The solar azimuth at the time of the Godlewski RB is about 45 degrees. That happens at 11:30 am.

Thanks, that's why I always have to go to a timezone conversion site. It takes care of daylight saving issues and gives me the time with respect to GMT. Here we see a 5 hour offset from GMT. Which is Central time except as you see Panama does not do DST.

The only way I can make sense of this shot of the teams on foot is a reversed image at Miraflores The rail line is east of the canal and you can see those overhead poles in the satellite image. The sun is low in the shot and from the SEMA plot above you can see that the time of day has to be 5:00 pm plus or minus a half hour. It can't be an early morning shot because the canal does not point that way (70 degrees azimuth).

Chateau, that particular shot of the canal is the Pedro Miguel Locks. The Miraflores Locks are farther southeast from there, close to Panama City.
I wish you could tell distances on Google Earth. I found a dock with matching small boats (white roofed like the water taxis the teams are in). It's south of the Miraflores locks and about halfway between there and the dock where the fast forward is. It looks way too far for the teams to be walking to but the tracks do run all the way down there.

This is indeed a hard one to put together, but here is a first try which is probably way off but lets start somewhere:
Thursday, July 14 between 1 and 3AM, teams depart The Preservation Hall Pit Stop, New Orleans.
Sometime later, and it looks to be again after sunset the teams arrive in Panama City, Panama (flights arrive between 8 and 11PM whether coming from New Orleans via Houston or from Belize City)
Shot of Paolos looking very tired in van probably coming into city from Panama City Airport. According to our earlier spoiler this would be the evening of July 16. So we have a time gap here which can not be accounted for.
Sunday, July 17 starts with teams arriving (perhaps during the night from the bus station in Panama City) at the visitors center at the Miraflores Lock on the Panama Canal.
Clues here may lead somewhere else first, but then we have choice of Fast Forward or Baseball Park. Paolos choose FF and also perhaps the Gaghans. The clue tells them to take the School Type Bus to a dock area to find the task. Bungee Jump off high crane. Probably like other FF, he who gets there first has first shot at the task (a la South African water cooling tower)
Teams going to the ball park run into a real ROADBLOCK again. Only one play er from each team can get up to bat first. Player must get a safe hit off the pitcher. Maybe teams have to alternate (a la ice bar in Stockholm) or each team gets to stay at bat until successful and then the next team gets up to bat. This latter seems unfair, so perhaps they alternate at bats.
At the end of the roadblock, they must find a white van with driver and direct him to the Smithsonian Instition's dock near Gamboa about 40 minutes across the peninsula. Here the teams face a DETOUR (1)they must take boat across the river/canal to the Isle Barro Colorado and do somekind of bird watch - find a certain number of birds (fake) mark them on their chart and when finished get the directions to the pits stop - perhaps back on the mainland at the Gamboa Resort Hotel. or (2) they must go into town and find a local dance hall and find a praticular dancer doing the hootchy cootchy. And then to the pit stop.
All of the action probably takes place on one day. And I think from the various shots of the small boats out on the river/lake/canal some of which are in the sun and some or in shadows we have boats going to an from certian places. Perhaps the pits stop is not back at Gamboa but on another island since we do have a shot of the Paolos also in a boat.
In any case it is a NONELIMINATION LEG and the loosers coninue on: my guess either the Gaghans or Weavers.
This isn't really too solid so lets have some input. What bothers me is the time gap at the beginning. Did the teams have an extra long 48 hour rest stop in New Orleans or did they go to Beliize as rumored and that was completely wiped out. We'll have to be extra vigilant on clothing, times, and airport shots (if any)

If they had to wait a while for a bus they might take off walking. And if you had 2 miles to walk you probably would just walk it and not run. They would be walking to the southeast. Does the shot look like they could be walking southeast?
I know it's pure speculation but we seem to have alot of speculation this episode.

Well you asked for input. Everything looks good. I do think perhaps that the dance hall might be just a place to pick up the clue to go to the Smithsonian's dock near Gamboa and that everyone gets on a boat to head to Barro Colorado. Maybe they are just showing us one of the detours and the other one is also on the island? Birdwatching or ?? Then the pitstop would be there.

First things first:
Absolutely no mention of any castoff family on tomorrows show on today's TES. In fact, during the entire two-hours telecast not one single mention or promo for tonight's episode. Strange.
Can we determine on which side of the railroad tracks the Linz and Godlewski families are walking? If the road they are on is between the railroad and the canal then they are walking east toward an early morning sun; if they the railroad track is between them and the canal then they would be walking more or less west into the late afternoon sun. From what I can figure out the railroad runs from Panama City to Balboa on the southern side of the canal. And could this be the "gravel road" which leads from where the van left them on the main road and they are walking to the boat dock?
The local dance palace could very well be a route marker clue. Perhaps after the baseball ROADBLOCK they head to the dance hall ( a la the Tango Palace in Argentina) to get the clue which will take them to the boat dock for STRI in Gamboa.

Exactly what I was thinking. If there is indeed a boat to the right of the Paolos it could be a) production team or b) the Bransens. The Bransens would have been doing their roadblock at the same time the Paolos were doing the FF.
Now I'm thinking the Weavers are jumping for joy because they thought they were in last place and found out otherwise. They traveled over with the Linzs and Godlewskis by boat and maybe saw them complete the detour or they took too long.

Either they finished last and were told it was an NEL or they finished second which would be good for them , I don't know that they would be cheering like that if they were going to get mugged or a time penalty of some sort , or could it be that Phil told them no mugging ,I can't figure the Weavers out *(^

How do I get to the Gamboa Dock to take the boat to Barro Colorado?
Drive along the Gaillard Highway passing Albrook and Clayton on your right and the Miraflores locks on your left.
Continue past the Pedro Miguel locks, past the community of Paraiso, past the Summit Golf Club and go under a small railroad bridge inscribed 1929.
Immediately after the underpass, turn left on to Gamboa Road.
Pass the entrance to the Summit Botanical Garden on your right.
After approximately 11 kilometers you will arrive at a single-lane bridge that crosses the river to Gamboa.
To STRI dock (follow the signs from the Gamboa bridge): After crossing the bridge, continue straight. Pass the former gas station and the ACP dock (Dredging Division) on your left, and the Gamboa Post Office and the colorful Santa Cruz houses on your right. Before this road turns to the right, take the sand road to the left to the STRI dock.
The road trip to the Gamboa docks takes about 40-45 minutes (without traffic jams). You can follow the Gamboa (Rainforest Resort) signs.

This is plain speculation.
How about if the problem in Belize involves a current team, that went Thu Belize to Panama, and somehow got stranded in Belize and could not get to Panama, until one or two days later. Maybe the flight that was suppose to take them to Panama did not arrive until the next day and they did not have another possible route. That could count for the missing days we have in between New Orleans and the Team sightings in Panama on the 16 or 17 of July. :] {|

I know I started a lot of speculation about the 11th team and trouble in Belize, but I am starting to have my doubts. I think that the producers may be giving teams more frequent 36-hour rest periods (never announced as such of course) because of the young, tender age of some of the racers. If this is the case in New Orleans, it would account for that missing day and teams would be leaving in the early morning of July 15th, arrive in Panama in the late evening of the 15th and be ready and raring to go early on the morning of the 16th.
With most of the tag numbers accounted for we are only faced with the strange fact that there always were one more than enough vehicles, boats, logs, carriages, SUV's than were needed for the number of teams still in the race. This is strange.
Now I think that teams were in Belize for sequestered vacation. Belize (according to my son who is an avid scuba diver) is a great vacation place, not as crowded as CanCun or Cozemel but great diving, great beaches, fantastic reefs to explore, all kinds of jungle adventures (zip lines, etc.) good food, fantastic soveigner shopping (lots of native crafts for sale cheep). So it seems like a good spot for sequestered tribes and would give the first four castoffs at least some "foreign adventure". But with teams with young kids who get bored easily, the forced layover may have started to sour and there indeed may have been trouble brewing in paradise. So the rumors we heard of strife in Belize may have been strife between the losers. The Schroeders may be especially upset since they were almost "home" when they got snuffed and instead of getting back into their own beds, they were shuffled off for another three weeks in a strange location.
Just guesses. But it doesn't help solve the mystery of what in the world is going on in Panama. It is getting late and I haven't had a clue on how to put everything together.
If they are taking boats from Gamboa to the Isla Barro Colorado they would be travelling in a northern direction and we see at least one boat on the water with the sun low and directly behind it. So could this mean it is mid morning? Especially on the Paolo boat the sun seems to be coming in low over the starboard railing.
And it could be that the teams camp out again either on the Isla Barro Colorado or some other island since they seem to be lugging all their camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, matts) with them in many of the shots.
Any ideas Puddin?

FWIW, I think Rolly Weaver smokes the baseball roadblock, and the Weavers beat at least the Godlewskis to the pitstop (I'm think they are the team mentioned in the previews where the person doing the roadblock is annoyed by the encouragement from the other team members).
If this was already proposed by others...then I'm in agreeance! :)

Same vibes rmax , my thinking ( we were posting at the same time ) is that the Weavers are second to the pitstop :t-up: , I don't think they would be cheering if they were next to last and yeah ..Rolly looks like he can rail that ball , I'm hoping that it was the Gaghans that went for the FF and after they missed it have to travel back to complete the other tasks ..giving the Godlewskis at least a 5th place finish ?? with the Gaghans of course saved by an NEL.
Maybe the Weavers get lucky with the Birds ?? :knock:

I really think the dancer thing happens the day the teams arrive in Panama. The people of Panama really like to party and this could happen the night they arrive and tells them to go to the Panama Canal the next morning. One more thing Panama is not known for "Hoochy Coochy Punta dancers", Punta is a dance from another central american country. People in Panama dance salsa and merengue and maybe reggeton ( I really dont know how to spell it. sorry ). I think for security reasons they cannot have people woundering around the Canal at night. If the teams are around Panama at night it has to be around areas where full of people and tourist. For safety reasons.
Then everything we see happens the next day, the baseball, the bungy jump, the birds, etc. Hopefully there will be a pit stop by this time, after de bird watching. Next episode I do not think they leave Panama, it is going to be two episodes.
One more thing. What happens to the Gaghans during the episode. We have only established that the went to the FF and lost it to the Paolos, But what happen to them after that. Just wondering. :] {| :tada:

Rest of teams go to Little League Champions field in Panama City. ROADBLOCK. One team member has to get hit off pitcher. Teams must take turns at bat. After completing task get clue to find STRI dock in Gamboa. Teams take special white vans to get there.
Paolos get clue to proceed directly to pitstop which is on an island perhaps the same as STRI, Isla Barro Colorado and are in the boat at the same time as the others.
Van lets teams off on the main road and they have to haul their gear down the dirt road to the dock area. Teans race across the lake to the island for DETOUR TASKS. One task is to find and identify a number of birds (fake) in the jungle. NO IDEA WHAT THE OTHER TASK MIGHT BE.
Pitstop. NON ELIMINATION. Gaghans are last but saved for another day. Will they have to give up their money? All their clothes except what they are wearing? Or some new punishment.
That's it in a nutshell; not too good to be sure but something to mull over for the next 32 minutes.

Just a couple comments on the show:
1. I'm amazed that the Godlewskis did not even consider doing the fast forward. Big mistake that could have cost them the game.
2. Can you believe how civil they all were about getting on the boats in the same order they arrived the night before? This is highly unlike past seasons. Wonder how long this will last? That's all nice and sweet but it's a R A C E people!!!

Time for a little MMQ (Monday Morning Quarterbacking for you non-football fans)
Overall we did not do too bad; mainly we had the events right but the order wrong.
Departure times from New Orleans Pit Stop were dead on; we called for a 1AM to 2AM departure and teams actually left between 12:40AM and 1:54AM.
We had the two flights Continental and American pegged; and yes it looks like these were their only options. Both brought teams to Panama City about when expected.
Not too good on the next call; trip to STRI led off the task, but we did call for an overnight stop and bunch. Yes, this is the first time we had teams agreeing to leave in order arrived. Some boats sure were faster than others. And the VO we had of Mama Gaghan saying that they were going to stop to pickup another person was for the boat and not the bus. The sun angles did show that the boat race was early in the morning.
Strange to make the long boat trip out to Isla Barro Colorado just to find the guy with the next clue, and then another boat race back to shore to get to the DETOUR and FAST FORWARD. Note that Phil says that this is is ONLY Fast Forward during the race. (Does that also mean next weeks YIELD is the only one we will have?)
We had it right that Paolos would beat out the Gaghans on the Fast Forward. From the looks of things, it looks like the Paolos got to the pitstop way in advance of the next team. But time advantage will probably dissappear next week at the airport waiting for flights to San Jose.
Looks like most of the teams got to the pit stop before noon; this is getting to be trend to start off at daybreak and complete tasks by early afternoon; which leads to early morning departure. Note that Phil now says only "after a mandatory rest period" he never says after a mandatory 12-hour rest stop. It looks more and more like most pit stops are running to 36hours; is this because of the youngin's and some kind of legal rules?
Pretty sloppy ball playing; the only really good hit was by Papa Gaghan! And it was a little unfair that the batter only got to see 3 pitches and everything counted even balls thrown way wide! And errors counted as much as hits.
How is it that the Gaghans continue to be the penultamate team and continue on. But this is the basic rule of TAR: it doesn't count that much to arrive first (except for the added freebies - free gas from ARCO and BP for LIFE!!) but always keep one team BEHIND YOU.
There was an early tease in I think a Phil interview that one team put on all their clothes in anticipation of being last during a NONELIMINATION Leg. Good thinking. And we are pretty sure that they get to Montreal in the FINAL FOUR. But did they have to surrrender all their camping gear also? There must be some use for it since the producers included it in the SUV's they moved to Huntsville for the teams (it wasn't on the buses from Charleston) and we see the teams continue to lug it everywhere they go; so some more camping probably is on the agenda and what about the girls? share tents with the boys???????????

Anyway ..as the teams land at STRI the Paolo's snag the Fast Forward , this could be why the Gaghans don't know that another team has already taken it ..,
The Fast Forward takes the Paolo's back to near the Bridge of the Americans where DJ performs the task ..Bungee ? and are sent on there way to the Pitstop
The trip back & forth from STRI can take an hour and a half round trip
Meanwhile ... the other teams at STRI get a clue sending them to the Ballfield /Roadblock
We see the Weavers / Bransens both looking good with the Godlewski sister struggling .

Maybe this is where the teams grab the dingo bus whatever to take them to the town of Casco Viejo, district to find the Hoochy Coochy Punta dancers to recieve there next clue to the detour
Bird watching or unknown ??
The Bird watching is not on STRI , Barro Colorado but somewhere else ..with the pitstop around the corner
I'm going to guess the Weavers place second .. I think mom has 2 fingers up ? and thats why they are cheering ..I don't think they would be that excited if they were next to last ..last team being the Gaghans who " couldn't catch a break" changing buses and all ?
..also had the Weavers cheering at the Bird watching place right but thought it was the pitstop too..

good call on the Weavers' second place, puddin, though the vidcap was from when they finished the birdwatching detour. They're a strong team, but it's apparent they are not well-liked. After telling the Linz boatman to go slow, they weren't happy when the Linz's tried to psych out Rolly on the baseball field. "How rude" indeed!
And I too thought it was silly that the Godlewski's said "we don't need to be first" and didn't go for the FF. Considering it was the only FF (they must have known), wouldn't it have been nice to be in the running for a 1st place pitstop prize?
Oh, my favorite moment came from Phil, when he said to the G-ski's after mugging them "Did you know it's against the law in Panama to wear underpants over underpants over your pants?" Good one, Phil!

watching the insider clips ..The DJ is the narrator for his famliy ,he talks about the Weavers ans how NOW they want to make alliances ..but did not want nothing to do with any of the familys in the beginning ..untill now.
The Gaghans feel that they bonded with the Linzes out of all the other teams ..
The Weavers talk about how proud they are of Rolly for hitting the Ball in the Roadblock ..the sis in the white tank top said " I know I needed to do a roadblock...." and then says she knew hitting balls was more for Rolly
The Gaghans wanted to do the FF for Carissa ..shes been hoping for a bungee jump challenge ..they knew DJ was afraid of heights , also they said that Billy wanted to do the birds but mom said that after the Card/detour they no longer wanted to gamble ..they wanted a sure thing , the instruments ..also they thanked the dude spoke Engilsh that guided them there .

For the conspiracy-minded:
It looks like most (probably all) of the boats used to take the teams out to STRI were chartered from Aventuras 2000, a tour company operating out of the Melia Colon resort. This can be established three ways: first, the parrot logo on the side of the boat (compare with the logo on their webpage (http://www.colon2000.com/tours.html)); second, the phone number on the boat (listed here (http://www.igougo.com/planning/journalEntryActivity.asp?JournalID=45213&EntryID=47428&n=Panama+City+Tour+by+Aventuras+2000)); and third, the lifejacket worn by the Linz driver. Conclusions? Either the producers got a lousy return on the money they spent, or...they told the drivers to screw up deliberately.
