In Hinduism, the cobra is venerated as the ally of the most powerful Hindu god, Shiva. For centuries, Kalbeliya people, the snake charmer caste, have exploited the mystique and fear of the serpents for money. Kalbeliya men catch, defang and “charm” the cobras, training them to “stand” and sway out of a woven basket while playing traditional poongi flutes.. Even today, many Indians remain fascinated, and some are willing to pay for the chance to observe a mystic cobra, from a safe distance.

Still holding out for Turkey and London?  Not likely now if they are going around the world and will be going through Canada and Jamaica. Would not be the first time that location shots in the opening sequence are not places visited by the teams during that race.

There's still plenty of time for the race to go to India then to Turkey and then other places before getting to the Caribbean.   Last night's pit stop was around December 3.  There are still 2 full weeks left.

I see lots of long trips in the racer's future.  I also still think they circle the world.

The race could have them backtrack to Turkey from India and then maybe to London and then send them to Asia, which would pretty much guarantee some Killer Fatigue and maybe even some airport hijinks (which have been sorely missed this season IMO).

I think there is no Europe leg. They skipped Europe and across to Asia Pacific Region.

I am so excited to hear this news.  So are you saying the production crew is ahead of the racers getting ready?  Like a few days?  If so this would fit with where I think this is.  The dates were not coinciding, but if the production crew are ahead a few days, the dates would.  Please let me know and I will spill the beans.

I think we have one too many legs showing on the map. And we have a spoiler that says that at least one team with cameraman in tow was spotted running through Miami airport on December 17. And we have shot of Uchenna in Puerto Rico airport. Now if all this information is correct, then why would teams fly from Puerto Rico to Miami and then on to New York when there are many, many American Airline flights direct from Puerto Rico to New York?  The info about seeing teams in New York just before Christmas has always been suspect. But in any case if leg 8 and leg 9 are in India, then leg 10 could be to Cambodia or to Melbourne/Tasmania, Australia but not both; leg 11 to Canada (I think we have a Montreal spoiler so Montreal may be the location in Canada and not Vancouver, leg 12 to Jamaica, and leg 13 home to USA via Puerto Rico and Miami.

But I do agree, I just do not think it will be possible to backtrack to London and Istanbul and then across the Pacific to Canada and Jamaica.

G'man, Don't get caught in Apprentice Fan's fantasies.  He has numerous routes scattered all over the internet.

I still think they could go to Turkey.  Why would the opening credits have more than one scene from Turkey?  London has only one scene so that may be a no go.

Wow you really suck you do know leg 6 was  the Pans in Botswana and then leg 7 was Khwai Botswana.  They got to Turkey after India and then to London both had a few caps in the opening London had two caps.
I think its from here on out
Leg 8: India
Leg Nine: India
Leg Ten: Istanbul Turkey
Leg Elven: Other part of Turkey.
Leg Twelve: London
Finish: Dont know.

So what do you all think ? Roadblock? We see Meredith , Lynn ,Amber I'm pretty sure doing this while there partner watchs .

Something interesting...The CBS website shows the route as Jodhpur, India which is in Rajasthan state.  It also has it's normal explanation of the area.

Lucknow in in Utter Pradesh state and is where the racers are when interrupted by the TBC, so it looks like they are on the move.

Gretchen looks like a million years old in that picture; its time they are put out before somebody dies!!!
Title: Re: 4/19 EP9 title~ " We Have A bad Elephant"
Post by: gingerman28 on April 13, 2005, 10:26:40 AM
I think that we have several problems facing us which now need clarifying.

First: Now that ep 8 has ended with TBC, is the program scheduled for next week, April 19, considered a continuation of ep 8 or is it ep 9 with the new title of "Talk nice to the camel"?  Does this mean that all the action in next week's show leads to the next pit stop? And will it be NEL or elimination? Phil said at the beginning that there would be EIGHT elimination legs. We have had SIX so far. So if Ep 9 is NEL that would leave ep 10 (April 26) as the Seventh elimination; ep 11 (May 3) as NEL; ep 12 (May 10 first hour as Eighth elimination; and ep 13 (May 10 second hour) as the race for home. Which does away with the  back to back NELs which we were worrying about. So it looks like:

April 19 - NEL-five teams left
April 26 - Elimination #7 - four teams left
May 3 - NEL - four teams left
May 10 First Hour - Elimination #8 - final three teams left
May 10 Second Hour - Race for Home - Winner take all!

Second: if ep 9 is just a continuation of ep 8 without a pitstop there surely is another ROADBLOCK (camel carts through a marked course of some kind) which we see Amber and Meredith driving the cart alone (with an Indian guide by their sides) with Rob and Gretchen watching and cheering them on. We also have Lynn (?) also passing Meredith. But when does this happen? The next day according to the promos, and both Rob and Amber are wearing different clothes from their rooftop appearance. Rob now has long sleeve Red shirt (his shirt on the roof was blue) and is wearing shorts (he had on long pants on the roof) Amber is now in her red tee shirt with "a" but was wearing a red and white jacket with what looks like a blue shirt underneath. So somewhere along the way they changed clothes! And Gretchen is also wearing a different jacket or shirt than she did in previous shots.

Also note the strange editing of this sequence: in no,. 5 Amber has a white paper under left armpit. In no. 10 she no longer has the paper; in no 11 the paper is back; in no.12 it is gone again.  In the live video there is even more does she or doesn't she have the paper under her arm. So the editing of this sequence is completely out of sequence.  Wonder why?

Third: is the participation in some local holiday celebration on the night of the roof top arrivals? If so it looks like all five teams are bunched up again. Everyone is spotted except Rob and Amber. So if not a pit stop what is everyone doing having fun at night? Doesn't anyone get sleep time or do they stay up all night and then race out to the camel track to start off the next day with another Roadblock?

Fourth: what is the clue that Rob and Amber get when they arrive at the rooftop (I gather in ep 9 next week we will get to see the other teams arrive.) It can't be to go to the actual pitstop at the end of ep 8 before the actual new ep 9 starts since Phil has to be on the roof to hand out clues to the next four teams and he can't then suddenly be at the actual pit stop to greet Rob and Amber again. So what does this next clue say? Go somewhere to participate in the holiday celebration? Or some other task which will occur before all the teams get together for the celebration which is not the pit stop.

Could it be that we have a pitstop at the start of next week's show which would be NEL, then the nighttime celebration and then we start of ep 9 with another Detour which leads us somewhere else, etc. etc. I can't remember in the TAR6 TBC in Budapest did the second part also include another Detour and another Roadblock before arriving at the pitstop?

This is how I see it GMan , teams rest and party , then depart the following day  . Time for the Fast Forward ..? Can't wait to see which team maybe missing from the future Vidcaps.
Also the site is not updated yet  ]*] ..that makes me so mad , no promos .... yet, again.

GATE-CRASHING
The next morning, the other six Teams arrived at the museum, now behind Lori & Bolo, who had camped there since 7 am. When the gate opened at 10 am, the frenzied dash to the cluebox caused an accident when the gate came crashing back down, hitting both Hera and Freddy on the head. In the rail yard, Teams frantically searched for the Route Marker that would determine the order of riding the draisine. Spotting it together, Jon, Bolo and Adam fought over the numbers, knocking down the Route Marker in the process. In the melee, Bolo emerged with number one, while the injured Freddy, late to the scene, settled for number five, and the also-injured Hera drew the last number.

Detour - "Swim" or "Paddle."
Fast Forward - Drink Up /Blood
Roadblock-In this Roadblock, one Team member had to eat a 24-ounce bowl of soup made with traditional Hungarian spices  ]:,

This is interesting, the CBS website on their route page has this posted

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race7/show/ep07/route/destination/?loc=sights

Jaswant Thada
Just off the fort road and not too far from Mehrangarh Fort, this breathtaking white marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II is the Pit Stop for this leg of THE AMAZING RACE. The complex features four cenotaphs, the earliest of which dates from 1899, and a royal crematorium

But they have the pitstop listed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India for EPISODE 7.  What in the world are they thiniking.

How far is Jodhpur from Lucknow?

The way I see it, last night's (4/12) episode was half a leg, so next week will be the continuation.  Whether the second half will include the FF or not remains to be seen, but I think it will still be non-elimination.  Poor Gretchen might have to give up that nice new backpack!  But who knows, maybe there will be some change in placement. I hope so....

At least Kelly had the smarts to recognize that the clue said "mat" and not "pit stop"...

MATTERS UNDER RULE 377

(i) Need to run Marudhar Express between Jodhpur and Varanasi via Lucknow

DR. KARAN SINGH YADAV : The Marudhar Express train runs from Jodhpur to Lucknow – Varanasi. Now the Railway administration wants to stop its passage on Alwar-Mathura route. In such a situation, the people of Alwar will be denied the benefits of travelling from Alwar to Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Banaras onwards. Therefore, I would urge the Minister of Railways to maintain the status quo of Marudhar Express on its present route.

Joyce will have her head shaved for sure!  She is so game!  Besides, Uchenna's is already shave, so he'll be a positive influence on her.  As someone who has shaved my head, it's really kind of a fun thing to do...and I didn't even have a chance for a million dollars!  Everyone should do it at least once in their life.

Throughout the Islamic world, hair removal is considered in the
context of religious law. For the fathful, there is detailed
discussion of exactly how this must be aproached. In India, head
shaving is practised by many Hindus and seems to have more ritual
significance than any other kind of hair removal, about which there is
little comment, in English at least.

If Joyce and Uchenna go for the FAST FORWARD and it sure looks like she shaved her head from pix no 57 amd 58 and the shot from the Puerto Rico airport where her head is wrapped in a scarf, they must have leapfrogged ahead of Rob and Amber. The teams know that there was only one more FAST FORWARD and if Rob and Amber were in front, I am sure they would have gone for it. But on the other hand  would Rob and Amber have taken the Fast Forward if they knew ahead of time that it meant shaving their heads?  In the previous TAR when the models went for the FF they did not learn until they reached the site that it meant shaving their heads and then they turned back and did the Detour.

Looks like they finish up the camel bit in Lucknow and then take an overnight train ride to Jodhpur. And here the Elephans come into play so the two part episode with two titles makes sense: Camels and Elephants play a major role.

Finally they reach the pit stop at the Jaswant Thada in Jodhpur. Non-elimination I would think.

I highly doubt that Rob and Amber would do this roadblock as their televised wedding is four months after the race wrapped. I can see them getting to the FF and realising what it entailed and then turning back. I don't think they will even discuss it as much as Brandon and Nicki did in TAR5

Just some observations of the vidcaps.

http://lucknow.nic.in/geog.htm   Lucknow has a tropical climate.  The camel races look to be in the desert.

The racers are wearing the same clothes for both the camel and elephant tasks.

Rob and Amber are wearing the same clothes at night as they wore at the non pit stop.

Maybe one of our detectives can figure out by the amount of daylight whether the camels or elephants come first.

The mosque we all thought was the Jama Masjid in Delhi shown during the opening credits, could actually be the Imambara in Lucknow which is part of the palace complex where the teams had to don headcovering.  Here is pix reference:

http://lucknow.nic.in/images/imambara.jpg

I thought at first that the tower shown in pix 59 and 60 which seems to be the site for the fireworks celebration was the Husainabad Clock Tower in Lucknow but it is not a match.

http://lucknow.nic.in/images/clock_tawar.jpg

Anyone have any idea what the tower is or where it is?  If it is in Jodhpur, then we know that they go there pretty soon after the rooftop mat match with Phil.  Also looks like they will be going to Jodhpur by train at night, so that might be the message the teams receive on the roof. Participate in a local holiday celebration, and then catch the night train from Lucknow to Jodhpur.

The clothes do match in the camel and elephant gigs. And having both events in the continuation of ep 8 gives credance to the swich in titles that we have seen.  So the makeup may be:

Night train to Jodhpur

ROADBLOCK - Race the camel around a set course  (similar to the horse gig in Argentina)

DETOUR - RIDE  an elephant, or

               PUSH an elephant

FAST FORWARD - Shave heads and become Hindu Monks (or whatever)

Neither Uchenna nor Joyce have been seen in either the Roadblock or Detour tasks.

Then on to the PITSTOP  at  Jaswant Thada but whomever is last is saved by the NON-ELIMINATION LEG

Great job on finding the tower.  The night time also matches up with the train schedule.  If you go to http://www.indianrail.gov.in/, you'll see that the only train between Locknow and Jodhpur leaves at around midnight and arrives in Jodhpur at 9 at night.

I wonder what the racers have to do until they hop on the train.  You can see the Locknow train station in the background in vid cap 48.   Mid afternoon to midinight is a long time.

This crappy TBC episode didn't mean a thing since they will all bunch up for the train ride.

Cheap so and so's! Couldn't spring for airline tickets from Lucknow to Jodhpur! That's one hellva train ride - 21 HOURS!!!!!!!

Train No. 4863 leaves Lucknow at 23.58 and arrives in Jodhpur at 21.00 thats almost 21 hours and it makes 25 repeat 25 stops along the way! No rest for the weary.  It should be a real experience.

More information on Jodhpur for those who want to know more about the next location:

http://www.rajasthan.gov.in/JODHPUR.SHTM

Everything seems to be centrally located the Sardar Market and tower, the Mehereangarth Fort and the pit stop at Jaswant Thada.

But congrats on finding the tower, guys! That sure puts the holiday celebration in Jodhpur and not in Lucknow. It looks like late afternoon by the time Rob and Amber and Ron and Kelly get to the rooftop so the clue they get is probably get ye to the railroad station for a jolly 21 hour ride to Jodhpur. Meredith and Gretchen are saved again by the bunchup at the RR. How many times can they be saved? They have more lives than a cat.

And let's not have any more snide remarks about the ancient ones, the old ones, the infirm ones afterall I'm pushing 78 and I'm still going strong!!

Some incidental information which may help to explain the course of action in ep. 9:

In Lucknow on December 6/7 the sun rises at 6:11AM and sets at 4:43PM. So far this works since the the planes arrived from Bombay around 9:30AM. Doing the Roadblock and Detour would take them to early afternoon. We see the first two teams, Rob and Amber and Ron and Kelly arriving on the rooftop while the sun is still fairly high up. And I imagine that all five teams will make it to the roof before the sun sets at 4:43.  And then it looks like there will not be enough light to do another task except get to the train station and book a sleeping car for the long, 21-hour ride to Jodhpur.  In Jodhpur on December 6/7 the sun rises at 6:42AM and sets at 5:16PM so it will be dark when the teams arrive at 9:00PM. I think they go on to the festival celebration from the train station and this will take care of the night for them (perhaps they get a clue for the next clue which would be either the Roadblock (camel race) or Detour (the LEAD or PUSH an elephant!) It looks from the amount of sunlight and the fact that Rob had his long-sleeve shirt with the sleeves down and his full trousers on that this is the early morning task when the average temperature in Jodhpur is 44 degrees. Later in the day the ROADBLOCK may take place since it looks hotter now with Rob with his sleeves pushed up and his pants now reduced to shorts when the afternoon average high temperature is 80 degrees (in the shade mind you).

Just wild guesses but starting to make more sense.

Wow GMan , nice detective work . If the Detour comes first then the Roadblock is a good sign for M&G because we see all teams there at the same time except of course U&J because the evidence shows that they do the FF and  most likely succeed ! Who will be last to arrive at the pitstop and be mugged by Phil is anyones guess ..I can hardly wait to see the TV promos for more evidence !

On the second part of the extended leg of the race, the Racers have a hard time maneuvering fickle camels as the animals pull teams into trees, walk backward and even lie down in the middle of the course. One team tries for the last Fast Forward of the race, which challenges them to partake in a shocking and emotional traditional Indian ritual. Also, the pressures of the Race take their toll on one team whose solid relationship has a momentary meltdown.

Amber and Rob had two little interview snippets interspersed within the TBC episode.  They were wearing the same clothes as they are shown wearing in the Jodhpur vid caps.

Sounds like the ROADBLOCK is going to be a real leveler as the four teams all are having troubles with the nasty beasts of burden.  So only one team goes for the FAST FORWARD which means it looks like a slam dunk for U/J!! Only three teams have a solid relationship. We can forget U/J and Ron/Kelly so which team has the melt down: Romber?  The Boyfriends? or the Grandparents?

My guess on the momentary meltdown, not Romber. Meredith & Gretchen seem to be at the end of their rope (especially Gretchen) so I'd guess it is them.

Some interesting bits and pieces from CBS's SUNDAY MORNING program today:

A plug for this week's The Early Show:  "On the Early Show this week, The Amazing Race and Survivors castoffs"

Are they plugging an ELIMINATION leg this week?  If so, it would be Elimination Number Seven or of Eight with only one more to occur on April 26, May 3 or May 10.  If it is indeed an elimination episode (legs are getting confusing since we have a nu mber of double legs) this week, then next week could be the NON ELIMINATION episode and the Eighth Elimination could be on May 3.  This would leave THREE teams to race through a double leg during the two-hour FINALE on May 10. Could make sense. So lets consider that if they announce it live on the air that TES will have a castoff on its show, they usually do so. And if it is an elimination leg - will Romber interrupt their Honeymoon in  the Bahamas to appear on the show??? (could be live from Atlantis, I suppose, but really)

Another look and it seems at least three teams are pushing those wooden elephants (sometimes they push and sometimes they lead, so it must be a difficult route to follow) We see Rob and Amber pushing and leading; Ron and Kelly pushing and leading; and Meredith leading with Gretchen perched up on high (trying to find the way?) and at the end of the clip, Meredith bends over in agony or disgust or out of patience or just plain lost again!)  That's where Gretchen could say "We have a bad elephant."  Nothing on Alex and Lynn with the elephants so there may be another task involved in a Detour. Also nothing on Uchenna and Joyce at either the Roadblock (Camels) or Detour (Elephants)  Far shot of someone with dark hair and dark long-sleeve shirt on getting hair shorn. Joyce or a native plant?

Hard to tell which task comes first in Jodhpur since the shadows look long for both the elephant race and the camel race. So one could be early morning the other could be late afternoon or vice versa.

Title: OK, What I think I know
Post by: MrsKutz on April 17, 2005, 12:56:41 PM
I think that U and J get the fast foward.  and are not eliminated.

I think that R & A go for the fast forward, decide not to do it...end up in the bottom two, but DO NOT GET eliminated this leg.... I think they will be yielded in the next leg or the one after and that will take them out.  Maybe as fourth.

I think there are no clips of  L and A in the previews.... at least in the second part (not the camels).

I think Ron and Kelly will not be eliminated.  They are currently second, and do not try for the fast forward.  I think they finish second or third, on this leg.

I think that L & A OR M & G finish the leg last last and are elimin.    WHich ones, I am not sure.

Gman I caught this quick flash of Lynn pushing..its blurred but I'm almost sure its him .
I also think only one team goes for the FF U&J , I was thinking of Rombers last going for the FF incident and how it put them behind waiting to see if Deana & Ray could do it or not and they wasted alot of time standing around .
Also about the NEL or not..The Early show hyped this up last week to . All we can do is wait untill 5:30 E/T on Tuesday to check the newspath " promo" update for coming up on the Early Show to confirm whether or not there is any mention of TAR or not , last week there was no mention at all .
And yeah I fear that M&G may get mugged by Phil once more , we see Meredith huffing /catching his breath with Gretchen riding on top and apparently not helping  ..of course we still have Raceygirls P/R airport pics that may or may not support a Ron & Kelly mugging at some point  , if thats Ron..I still have a hinkie that its not.

Why would you think RA go for the FF when the FF in Amber's hand looks liek it was not even opened??

Anyway we see them there with Ron and Kelly, and Alex is walking behind Rob when he says something about Ambers cammel.  And MEredith and Lynn were doing the RB together so all four teams are together at the RB so i highly doubt RA go for the FF.

My Guess is that this is the placeing at the end of the episode
1. Uchenna and Joye
But i dont know the corse for the cammels but my guess is
2. Ron and Kelly
3. Rob and Amber
4. Lynn and Alex
Eliminated: Meredith and Gretchen.
I dont know if the info on Rob and Amber and that they wont be in NY Wends is reliable or not. I know they just got married in the Bahamas but i dont know how long they will stay there for.

We also have Kelly doing the camel bit (I wish she would wear a bra!! - but it is a feast for these old eyeballs).

In the past in the PRINT media they have talked about a TAR castoff on TES on Wednesday, but not on live video. If it is mentioned by someone from the show on live video, then there IS a TAR castoff on the Wednesday show.

From the look of the shadows and lack thereof for Meredith and Gretchen it looks like they are behind the others at the Camel Roadblock, and behind the others during the Elephant push.  My guess is that they are running way behind the others even after the bunchup at the overnight train ride (what service to have a local attendent tuck you in your berth!) and everyone seeming to be together at the Marwar Festival in Jodhpur.

My guess is that April 19 is an ELIMINATION (Meredith and Gretchen are NOT saved by the NELL)
April 26 is NON ELIMINATION
May 3 is the EIGHTH ELIMINATION leaving three teams to race a double leg on
May 10 to the Finish Line in Miami or New York

April 26 is NON ELIMINATION                                         TO KEEP AT 4 TEAMS

Isn't that Lynn racing a camel next to Meredith (pic 62 on page 3)? I also noticed that M/G are both wearing jackets in both tasks so it would seem unlikely that they take place in afternoon 80+ degree weather  -- not unless they are wearing everything in case of another mugging. (*(

Great find, Puddin.

You saw how confused Amber and Rob looked when Phil told them the mat wasn't the pit stop but that he had a clue for them.  Wouldn't it be something if the clue only said to take the train to Jodhpur with no specific location?  That would really put the racers on edge, not really knowing where to go.  Then, of course, they would be given the specific place to go during their train ride.

Maybe they time the distribution of the clues based on the time they arrived at the Pit Stop. The train ride is 21 hours, so Rob and Amber would get their clue a couple of hours before Gretchen and Meredith. Not a huge advantage, but it would be nice to know where you're going before you go to sleep rather than being woken up.

Welcome orlando spring  :<( ok what you guys said makes sense , thank you .
Last week I checked the TV Guide listings for Wendsday morning The Early Show 4/27 .. this would be the morning after " We got A Gnome" for what its worth I just checked again and it changed . No mention of the castoffs for the following week now on the Early Show .
I'm just trying to sort out whether or not tomorrow is a NEL or not ..
OK the last time we had a ToBeCont.. was EP6 Hungary we were left hanging in to see if Lori & Bolo got to the Internet Cafe in time and indeed they did ..the story cont..to EP 7 and Lori & Bolo won the Fast Forward /Drink Blood .  Gus & Hera were eliminated !( Link hereTAR6 (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race6/show/ep07/index4.shtml) )
so what I'm getting at is I think GMan is right and tomorrow nights episode is an elimination and next week is most likely a NEL .
Phil said there would be 8 elimination legs ..we started with 11 teams and there are 5 left , 4 shows left ..so tomorrow would get them down to 4 . Unless we have a 2hour show on May 3rd? Thats the only way we can fit in one more NEL , but my listings don't go that far untill tomorrow night around 7ish.
April 19 ELIM down to 4 teams ( 7th elim )
April 26th NEL 4teams
May3rd Elim down to 3 teams ( 8th elim )
May 10 ( finale ) Final Three ( acording to the futoncritic link here (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/pr.cgi?id=20050414cbs01).

Watching the live video again, you can clearly see that the train porter is touching Meredith on the toe as he "sleeps" and is holding the yellow route marker clue envelope in his left hand. So it now looks like that at least Meredith and Gretchen receive some kind of clue/task/route instruction while they are on the train.

We have been assuming that the teams are on the direct train from Lucknow to Jodhpur, BUT what if they are told to book a train to Delhi and while they are sleeping in the wee hours of the morning (the train leaves at night but maybe not as late as midnight) the teams are awakened and given a NEW instruction which tells them when they arrive in Delhi they have to find another train that will take them to JODHPUR!  Now that would be a really new twist to the old game!!

Checking the Indian Railway schedules there are trains leaving Lucknow for New Delhi/Delhi during the evening from 19:00 to 22:30. Two good possiblities might be a train that leaves at 21:00 and arrives in New Delhi at 6:40AM; another train leaves at 22:00 and arrives at 7:15AM. Both trains connect with a train from New Delhi leaving at 8:25AM and arriving in Jodhpur at 7:40PM (after dark and time for the nighttime fireworks!

In any case whether they are going directly to Jodhpur or via Delhi, it looks like they will be attending some kind of local celebration of some sort.  We have spotted a sign that says Welcome to the Marwar Festival, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. But something is wrong here since the Marwar Festival is always held during the full moon of Sharad Poomima which usually falls during the months of September-October and I think it was held in 2004 on Oct 8 and 9. So perhaps it is some other type of celebration or something that the producers arrange for just for TAR. And probably somewhere during the celebration they will find something or somebody who will give them the ROADBLOCK or DETOUR clue to start the day with. Again probably a bunchup waiting for either the camel park or elephant garage to open after daybreak.

We have been assuming that Joyce is the one shown having her hair shorn, and to back this up we have not seen either Uchenna nor Joyce in  the camel race, or the elephant push/pull, so it is very possible that U/J do go for the FF and end up winning the leg finally. But did they actually renege on the head shaving at the last moment and are just way behind the others during the Detour and Roadblock?

Meredith looks like he is just about at the end of his rope. He looks absolutely exhausted. And at the end of the sequence with him pulling the elephant (who, by the way, is pushing?) he bends over in agony. Last again?  Lost again? Or just plane tired?  And why is Gretchen perched up on top? None of the other teams have a member up there, so perhaps she climbed up there to get a better view on where to go with the elephant. But again if this is unplanned on her part, why is there a small camera (like the mini ones mounted on the camels) mounted in front of her when none of the other elephants have a camera mounted up there on top? Maybe this has to do with the Detour Choices.

A lot of questions to ponder the 24 hours left before ep 8 continues or ep 9 begins.

I rewatched last weeks EP of TAR and  noticed something and I was lucky enough to find one vidcap at Tarflies (http://www.tarflies.com/gallery/tar07_07/tar07_07_006). Right in the beginning when the teams left the pitstop ..look at how tight Joyce can get her hair under her bandana..
what do you think? If anyone saved it on tape you could see what I mean .

I agree with ya, if you look at various photos or tape as the race has progressed, her perm or whatever she has that looked so good at the outset,  isn't holding up too well. She may be hiding her hair for that reason, and you know CBS isn't going to show us any pics in previews with her locks flowing. lol

This would be funny. Suppose her hair is all weaves. They get to the FF and find out they have to shave their head. Joyce proclaims, "no problem" and takes the weaves out and everyone sees only 3 inches of hair to be shaved.  :)*

Oh that would be so funny.. or what if she got mugged by Phil in the upcoming episodes and her weaves were in her backpack.. then she'd have run around with her bandana on all the time  :)*

Don't forget to watch ET Tomorrow night for last minute clues ..

Rob & Amber 'Race' To The Top!

April 19, 2005
With brothers BRIAN and GREG out of "The Amazing Race" that leaves just five more teams to travel the world on their way to the big money prize. Will it be "Survivor" lovebirds and first-place twosome ROB and AMBER? Or boyfriends LYNN and ALEX?

In related "Amazing" news, CBS has also announced that Rob and Amber will wed in a special television event, "Rob and Amber Get Married," to be broadcast May 24 at 9 p.m. The TV special will include a behind-the-scenes look at preparations for the wedding ceremony, which takes place at Atlantis, Paradise Island, in The Bahamas. It will also show the bridal and bachelor parties, the reception and special surprises that Rob and Amber planned for each other! Renowned celebrity event planner COLIN COWIE is in charge of the special day.

Meanwhile, last week battle lines were drawn as the "Amazing Race" teams made their way to Lucknow, India. Lynn and Alex led a group against their rivals while husband-and-wife-to-be Rob and Amber formed an uncomfortable alliance with beauty queen and POW KELLY and RON. Will the drama continue?

On tonight's exciting episode, (CBS, 9 p.m.), the savvy travelers have reached the mat in India only to find yet another clue.

The teams have traveled to places like Chile, South Africa and Peru but they encounter a roadblock like none other as they cross paths with elephants -- just to name one of the many exotic animals they must deal with!

On the second part of this extended leg of the race, the raucous racers have difficulty maneuvering moody camels as the animals pull teams into trees, walk backwards and even take time to rest right in the middle of the challenge!

Meanwhile, one pair attempts for the last Fast Forward of the race, which requires them to partake in a shocking and emotional Indian ritual; one normally solid couple has a meltdown; and one couple makes the ultimate sacrifice -- they shave their heads!

For a sneak peek inside the "Amazing" episode, watch tonight's ET!

The Early Show this morning ran three video clips promoting the appearance of the latest TAR castoff on Wednesday morning TES. This pretty much CONFIRMS that tonight's ep is indeed an ELIMINATION LEG!

Let's see if I can recap what we think we know about tonight's continuation of ep 8:

1. The four remaining teams get to the rooftop mat and are told they must continue on. From the angle of the sun it looks like Rob and Amber arrive shortly after noon. The last team (Meredith and Gretchen) are running pretty far behind with their tea delivery, so I imagine that they arrive late in the afternoon but before the sun sets at 4:30PM.  I think that with daylight running out that the teams are told to go to the Central Railroad Station and book the night sleeper train to New Delhi.

2. Teams must go to central railrod station and book sleeping car on train leaving at 21:00 or 22:00 for New Delhi.

3. Just before they arrive in New Delhi at 6 or 7 in the morning, the train porter hands them another clue which tells them they are not stopping in New Delhi but must find a train to take them to Jodhpur (the first one leaves at 8:30AM)  If the teams were on a DIRECT train from Lucknow to Jodhpur why would the car porter wake the teams while it was still dark in the morning when thay still had another 12 hours to go on the direct train to Jodhpur which would arrive at 9:00PM? So I think that it must be early morning before the sun comes up, and the teams are waken then by the porter, and they have to scramble to find the train to Jodhpur.

4. Arriving in Jodhpur at around 7:30PM they must first attend some kind of local celebration (fireworks and all) in the Sardar Market square. We have a posting that this might be the Marwar Festifal but this occurs in Jodhpur during the full moon of Sharad Poomina which in 2004, I believe, was October 22 and 23, so this may be some other celebration or something conveniently arranged by the producers for TAR.  During or after the festival they  have to find someone by the clocktower who will hand them the next clue.

5. The next clue is to go to a camel ranch where the ROADBLOCK will take place. Probably another bunch up waiting for the place to open at daybreak. When the place opens they find the clue box and instructions for the Roadblock or the FAST FORWARD.

6. The ROADBLOCK is for one member of the team to maneuver a cart pulled by a stubborn camel around some kind of obsticle course. We see Amber, Kelly, Lynn and Meredith driving the camels. At the conclusion of this task they may have to find the Mehrangarth Fort for their next clue. (But they may go there to get the Detour clue, just think that sometime during their stay in Jodhpur they will visit one of the real landmarks which is the Mehrangarth Fort which dominates the city from the hill overlooking the Sardar Market and Clocktower.) We have spotted Amber, Kelly, Meredith and Lynn doing this task. No sign of Uchenna and Joyce.

7. Next comes the DETOUR which has something to do with elephants. Could be either PUSH a Wooden Elephant or RIDE a Live Elephant. At least we know that one part of the detour is to push a wooden elephant through the streets to a final destination. We see the teams of Rob and Amber, Ron and Kelly, (Perhaps Lynn), and Meredith and Gretchen. The first three teams are pushing and pulling the elephants along together. Meanwhile Meredith is leading while Gretchen is perched on top for the ride. Different part of the same task? or is Gretchen trying to get a better view of where they are to go. Meredith at the end looks like he is at the end of his rope, he is either lost again or completely exhausted. And again no sign of Uchenna and Joyce.

8. The FAST FORWARD. CBS pretty much confirms that one team makes the "ultimate sacrifice - they shave their heads."  This has to be Ubenna and Joyce since all the othe teams have been spotted doing both the Detour and Roadblock.  Since this is a simple task once the teams are committed to the shaving, Ubenna and Joyce should arrive first at the Pit Stop!

9. Eventually teams will make their way to JASWART THADA; just off the fort road and not far from Mehrangarth Fort, this breathtaking white marble memorial to Maharaja Singh II is the PIT STOP for this leg of the race. The last team will be ELIMINATED.

10. My guess for the eliminated team - Meredith and Gretchen. This time they will not be saved by the NELL.

At least that is the way I see it this morning!

G'man,  great work.

It sure is nice that CBS is providing enough information again to deduce detours, roadblocks, and other insights.

Someone noted that Amber is holding the FF in her hand in this shot (cause it's green?) but I can't tell. If so, she probably just got it so this means that the detour is before the roadblock?  *(^

sorry for not keeping up so this may have been mentioned before but isn’t it possible that Gretchen just misread the clue AGAIN and thought that she had to ride the wooden elephant? I just hope they can survive tonight’s episode, they're the only team I'm rooting for

Early Show E-Mail , copied as is ~

Hi, everyone,

I hope you're having a great day.  Harry, Julie and I continue to hold down the fort this week as Rene and Hannah enjoy some time off.

It's a big news day with the election of Pope Benedict XVI. Make sure to tune into The Early Show tomorrow morning for all the details about the new pontiff and the traditional events to follow.

Today, of course, marks the 10th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.  While it is a headline and a memory for so many of us, we must remember the deep personal loss it represents to so many in Oklahoma.  Thousands of people are gathering in Oklahoma City this morning, united by a single tragedy, and a memorial service will be held to commemorate the 168 lives lost that day.  Among those gathering to remember are Vice President Dick Cheney, former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating and former President Bill Clinton.

Switching gears a bit, we met a young woman today who provided us with a great sense of hope and promise.  Shauna Fleming, a 16-year-old girl from California, has taken it upon herself to write letters to soldiers overseas to thank them.  She has enlisted the support of people all over the country who have written, not 1, not 100, but 1 million thank-you letters.  This is yet more proof that today's young people are doing plenty to make us proud.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow to meet the latest team eliminated from "The Amazing Race 7"!  Have a great day, and we'll see you tomorrow on The Early Show.
