Would not have guessed Finland as the next country to make its own version of TAR, but I'm excited nonetheless.

It's always very exciting to see the birth of a new TAR franchise! Still waiting for TAR UK, TAR NZ & TAR SA...
Back to the topic at hand, I'm very excited to see how this Race unfolds via the RFF Detective Team in the coming months! Can we safely assume that TAR Finland is going to be broadcasted in Finnish, not English?
-
One wonders whether the routing will emulate TAR Norge in focusing on two continents per season, e.g. Asia/Oceania for TARN1, then Africa/South-America for TARN2.
-
A new version, awesome!
Hopefully the host is better than the guy from Norway. I've never seen the seasons, but apparently he narrated everything.
-
Cool! International??
Please no overlapping filmings though! Or peach might lose what's left of her mind totally! :faint:

On the contrary, Hr. (Herre) Freddy dos Santos was almost as good as Jon Montgomery; ergo, the prospective Finn can look to both for inspiration rather than either Aussie.

It would go like... "We're really far behind, and we need to catch up!" ...Freddy: "Kari & Bjorn are really far behind and need to catch up!"

Pretty sure Finland is too small to do an all-domestic route, then again, they did TAR Ecuador.

If the Norwegian edition serves as the template, then expect both the Starting Line as well as the Finale to be in/around the Helsinki area (c.f. Oslo).

So pleasantly surprised that Finland is making their own version of The Amazing Race. If they have taken inspiration from TAR Norge and TAR Australia, I hope they are implementing of the good things from both versions, like Handicap (TAR Norge) and the destinations (TAR Australia 1-4 and 6) etc.

^
Freddy dos Santos at his worst was/is still superior to Grant Bowler and Beau Ryan at their bests.
Anyhow, the acronym for the newest nation in the franchise should be TAR:S (Suomi) to distinguish it from the one-off French version.

What?! I was so certain that the Starting Line would be in Nuorgam :'(

30,000 Euros sounds like a pretty paltry prize if you ask me. I do suppose the contestants are going to be "celebrities", who don't really need the money (I assume they're going to be paid quite handsomely to participate in the Race, in lieu of the "lost of earnings" they may have, because they are participating in the Race)
Is the 30,000 Euros going to be donated to the charity of the winner team's choice? ???

They'll probably get paid for participating in the Race. In Norway, celebrities get paid for participating in reality shows.
Yes, 30 000 euros sounds like a pretty paltry prize, but I think they don't have to pay taxes for those prize moneys.

Heikki announced that the season starts on Monday.
There it went, the last day of vacation. ❤️

Will the Finnish RFF-ers spending their monday at Helsinki Airport or the Ferry Terminal?
I really hope for an awesome travel route :woohoo:

Very exciting news that TAR Finland is due to start filming in the next couple of days! :conf: :cheer:
I'm really excited to see some of our teams and the locations that they visit along the way! Please give us a good route TAR Finland! :2hearts:

Since tar season is far away, I was bored and decided to come and follow Finland Tar.I have a feeling its going to b a good one. Its always good to start a franchise, instead of playing catch up.

DOMESTIC
These 12 couples embark on the adventure of a lifetime – Amazing Race Finland starts today in Helsinki
18.7.2023
The biggest adventure show of all time, Amazing Race, has finally landed in Finland, and will be seen on Nelonen and Ruutu in September.
The filming of Amazing Race Finland has started early in the morning on Monday from Töölönlahti Bay in Helsinki, where the contestants have completed the first challenge of their journey. This is the start of a 4-week race that takes teams to numerous stages far from home. Along the way, some pairs are eliminated and only one pair can win the entire race and €30,000. The programme hosted by Heikki Paasonen starts on Nelonen and Ruutu on Saturday 30.9.
Amazing Race Finland takes these 12 two-person teams on the adventure of a lifetime: Ilmari Nurminen Member of Parliament and his spouse Aapo Hettula, radio personality Tuukka Ritokoski and father Sami Ritokoski, mountaineer Lotta Hintsa and sister Noora Hintsa, World Rally Champion Marcus Grönholm and co-driver Timo Rautiainen, actor Jukka Rasila and partner Mirva Nieminen, journalist Anna Perho and son Atte Lehtiniittu, Bakari Diarra known for his Vitunleija brand, social media star Samuel Chime, Member of Parliament Aino-Kaisa Pekonen and Member of the European Parliament Silvia Modig, biathlete friends Kaisa Mäkäräinen and Mari Eder, businessman-entrepreneur Peter Vesterbacka and his mentee Thy "Anna" Nguyen, trainers Janne Lehtonen and Robin Hendry from the Special Forces programme, actress Katariina Kaitue and her son Benjamin Harima.
Amazing Race Finland presents participants with an unprecedented challenge, as none of the pairs going to the race have any idea what the journey will bring.
Before the finish line, however, there will be a race that will test all senses, consisting of stages built around the world. Each stage includes tasks that require both physical and mental resources, which are performed either alone or together with a partner. Teams are challenged day after day, task after task, in circumstances that cannot be anticipated.
Amazing Race Suomi starts at Nelonen and Ruutu on Saturday 30.9.

Czech Republic, France or Switzerland?
It looks like a similar tast that the first season of TAR Norge had, where they had to place correct language to the correct flag, where one pairing was UAE and Arabic. First destination was Dubai.

Pure speculation: I think that they will continue down the Malay Peninsula.

It seems like Anna Perho & Atte Lehtiniittu will be eliminated during the first week, so they will be one of the first 1-4 teams to go.
Atte has posted on his Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/attetsi/) and he has been working in a kiosk again.
This is very lame, since usually productions are very strict with reality tv, even in Finland. And if you brake the confidentiality obligation, you will receive huge fines.

Welcome finamazing!
That's interesting. I wonder if they aren't being looser about NDA for the fact it's a celebrity edition. The Asian versions of TAR (which were celeb-heavy) spoiled practically anything themselves.

Thanks so much finamazing! We are seeing this in US TAR as well. Our latest US season also had eliminated racers allowed to POST. Which is really a serious error for all the audience who HATE knowing spoilers. Even RFF keeps our spoilers in well marked pages so no one should be spoiled unless they choose. Seriously hoping that this new thing is reconsidered worldwide! Spoilers are pure fun for us...but if you are a viewer these can easily spoil someone's viewing pleasure!

That's impressive they went that far out of the Clark/Angeles zone in Pampanga. Jee-an is from there so I've been to Pampanga a few times and hadn't heard of that eco park.
The route is pretty much a greatest hits of the cities I have spent the most time in Asia so far.

Are they ever going to get out of southeast Asia aside from when they go home to Finland? This feels like we're watching Australia 7's route over again :/
If there is any Europe, it'd be neat to see some new countries with which they have a closer relationship than the US, namely Lithuania or Latvia.

Don't forget Estonia! Imagine having the penultimate leg in Estonia, and starting the final leg with taking a 2 hrs ferry ride to Helsinki.
But yes, I really hope they other countries than just countries in Southeast Asia. But these countries will definitely give the racers some culture shock.
Kudos for TAR Suomi for going internationally with the route, unlike TAR Canada.

The producers said that they would be traveling to countries that most Finns only dream about. I doubt that we'll be seeing countries close to their home.

Today was a press preview day with the first clip released. The first task was to match names, flags, and currencies of countries (Tunisia, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Mexico, Thailand). Teams then got €40 to get to the airport, but it normally costs about €50-60 by taxi.

Katariina & Benjamin ran out of money and Anna gave them some. This generosity saved Katariina & Benjamin and kept them from being eliminated.

Yeah, this has started now. Does anyone here manage the Amazing Race wiki? There's no page for this yet on there.

Please let me know if someone has links for me to watch TAR Suomi.
If I would be able to get hand on the episodes, I would like to see if I can get some subtitles generated with today's AI from Finnish to English.
-
So, I watched the first episode and it was a positive suprise. However, I think the people were even more stressed and nervous than in the US version.
Beginning was a bit lame, since eventually they all took the same flight and all the scenes at the airport were cut out. Well, tbh the beginnings of an episode are the weakest part, even in the US version. I don't find these scenes interesting, where they head to airport, ESPECIALLY if they all end up taking the same flight and so on.
I didn't like that there were two tasks based on luck (bells & flowers). The detours were okay.
In general, I think they managed to cut and edit it quite well, considering that it was filmed a month ago. The pacing was great etc.
I think I like that they have the "forced" interviews, between tasks. In the US version and other reality shows, I am looking for hints, if the people got voted out/came in last, based on how they speak in the confessionals, and if they for example use weird time tenses.
Marcus Grönholm was my favourite, he is made for reality tv, with unintentional behaviour and comedy relief. I also liked, that there was already some arguing and tense moments, but on the other hand, I loved that everyone helped the other teams.
I'm not sure yet, what I am missing BUT maybe they could have added some more basic views/cuts and cinematography of Bangkok. Now it felt like it could have been happening in any big city.
Oh, and I wish they could rent out the places for the production only, while filming. It was a bit weird, that basicly random tourist from San Francisco did the bell task (a needle in a haystack -type) for one team ...
-
Does anyone have a link for it

Quite a week for TAR premieres in Bangkok. The TAR Asia influence is also strong with this episode
Show content
and will only continue with subsequent episodes
with many tasks from season 1. It did give the show a bit of a classic feel, especially with the emphasis on money. The crew said that they wanted immediate culture shock by flying them to Bangkok first (I remember that some people doubted me back in sightings when I said that Thailand was the first country), and we got that. The word English was said a lot, and multiple teams ran by clues and clue boxes. Only drawback was that there were three tasks that could be considered needle-in-a-haystack. Did lead to a random tourist finding the paper by accident during the Roadblock.
-
Ratings for the first episode are in, not that good ... If the total view counts don't grow the numbers, this will be the only season.
Ratings so far:
0.375 MIL (channel: Nelonen)
On the other channel, MTV3, Masked Singer Finland had 0.668 MIL views at the same time. The MTV3 has traditonally been leader in the prime time shows. So total views will grow a bit, because they rerun the episode many times + many people watch it online.
However, it had best ratings for the channel last week:
https://www.finnpanel.fi/en/tulokset/tv/vko/top/2023/39/nelonen.html
1. Amazing Race FIN 3. Who wants to be a millionaire? 4. Survivor FIN 6. Traitors FIN 8. Shark tank FIN
I think Survivor FIN had around million views at some point, in the earlier seasons.
Last weeks top-100, all channels, all episodes, includes all news programs:
https://www.finnpanel.fi/en/tulokset/tv/vko/top100/viimeisin/
1. Dancing with the stars FIN. 0.918 MIL
7. Masked Singer FIN. 0.688 MIL
89. Amazing Race FIN 0.375 MIL

It seemed like an odd and bold move to start with a celebrity edition off the bat. Wouldn't it have been better to build interest by giving everyday people a chance first?
If you read any fan board, you get the sense a lot of TAR fans don't particularly care about casting celebrities.

Are there a lot of Finnish 'Amazing Race' fan boards? My guess is that foreign networks aren't making these shows to appeal directly to TAR super-fans, but their own general audience.

There are Finnish fan boards that discuss TV and weren't thrilled about the celebrity casting back when the show was first announced. Plus there was the whole plane carbon controversy. Also to note, the episode was added to Nelonen's streaming service Ruutu on Saturday morning before airing on TV.

What was the plane carbon controversy?
Finland is a very green country and is set to become Europe’s first carbon neutral country by 2035. The politicians on the show have advocated for larger cuts to accelerate this process. People were outraged that politicians who want greenhouse gas cuts went on a show that uses planes.
-
I watched the first episode last night.
Seems like a solid start for the first new franchise in 9 years! It's funny to see Bangkok used as a first leg twice in the same week, but this one gets extra points for fitting more tasks into its 2 hours.
The language barrier wasn't too bad to follow. It was nice how once they got out of Finland, they were speaking English to locals half the time, which makes things easier.
A couple of teams stand out so far - Bakari & Samuel (the rappers), and Marcus & Timo (the rally car drivers). The latter reminded me so much of TAR1 Joe & Bill, right down to the fisherman hats.
Heikki seems like a great host from the start. Knowing he has a ton of experience in Finnish TV, I expected as such.
-
I liked it!
Okay, so I did my best, but this version didn't follow other versions' conventions by having the contestants stand in the same order of their names during the title sequence and team intros (Ie, it said Peter & Anna, but Anna was to the left of Peter), which made identifying who is who more difficult. And now that Wikipedia no longer tracks Roadblock completion (SO dumb...) I have to figure it out... Here's what I deduced, if you see any errors then let me know...
Kaisa looks just little older than Mari - MARI did the Roadblock
Bakari is shorter and Samuel is taller and has less hair - SAMUEL did the Roadblock
Jukka is male, Mirva is female - MIRVA did the Roadblock
Janne has a bigger, fuller beard than Robin - ROBIN did the Roadblock
Peter is male, Anna is female - ANNA did the Roadblock
Anna is female, Atte is male - ANNA did the Roadblock
Aino-Kaisa is blonde and has the thick glasses, Silvia has darker hair - AINO-KAISA did the Roadblock
Marcus is older, Timo is younger - MARCUS did the Roadblock
Lotta is shorter than Noora, and Noora wore green during the RB visit - LOTTA did the Roadblock
Tuukka is younger, Sami is older - TUUKKA did the Roadblock
Ilmari has smooth hair, Aapo has spiky hair - ILMARI did the Roadblock
Katariina is female, Benjamin is male - KATARIINA did the Roadblock
-
Marcus is older, Timo is younger - MARCUS did the Roadblock
Oh, imo Marcus looks younger, and he is. Marcus is 55 years old, while Timo is 58.
Marcus is taller, straight-forward and goofy, Timo is friendlier and nicer.

Is the next ep out yet?

Is the next ep out yet?
It'll be posted to Ruutu in 20 hours.
-
Nope, Saturday. One episode a week unlike Australia :( :P
-
Second episode - Review:
No time spent on the Bangkok -> Phuket trip. Which was great, however I think they flew there and didn't want to show it ...
Tasks were good, enough drama, good pacing, Marcus&Timo were goofy, Jukka was hot-headed.
My ranking:
Favourites:
1. Janne & Robin 2. Blonde bliathlonists 3. Katariina & Benjamin 4. Bakari & Samuel 5. Marcus & Timo (most entertaining) 6. Tuukka & dad
Mid:
7. Jukka & Mirva (entertainment value) 8. The gays
Wouldn't mind if they lose:
9. Mentor & apprentice 10. Blonde sisters
-
Between the two Thai legs, I preferred the Bangkok one over Phuket. Don't really love that both Detour tasks were luck based though it did lead to Jukka pouring in water to prove that his coconut was red. :funny: It's funny how we got two second leg episodes this week with near identical leg finishes from the previous leg. Though unlike TAR 35, I never felt like the last place team had much of a chance.
-
Great episode, but man - with the exception of making the rice balls, they lifted these tasks straight out of TAR Asia. Same with the bells last week. :funny:

Glad to see the team of politicians out early (well, 2 out of 3). They seem like nice ladies, but that whole green energy controversy proved why public officials don't belong on a show like this while in office. Their involvement casts a dark cloud over it.
At least Big Brother US cast Scaramucci and Omarosa after they were out of their position.

TAR or no TAR, those planes are flying. :duno:

TAR or no TAR, those planes are flying. :duno:
The argument, for many, is that lower demand for those flights will cause them to change their frequency. Contributing to ticket sales justifies their existence and keeps air travel persisting.
I'm not saying I agree with it, but I see why they take it as hypocrisy.
-
I think all of the teams burned themselves out after the first leg, because everybody looked a lot slower and more casual during this leg.
Roadblock performers this leg, as I determined so please tell me if I'm wrong:
Kaisa, Bakari, Jukka, Janne, Anna, Aino-Kaisa, Timo, Lotta, Sami, Aapo, Benjamin
-
Yeah, that sounds right. Lotta & Noora and Janne & Robin are the only teams where I don't remember who's who.
The other F/F team is easy to remember, because Mari reminds me of Maisie Williams with the bleach-blond look she had after Game of Thrones.

I'm fairly certain Janne has a thick, distinctive beard.
For L/N, one of them said the other's name during their Pit Start interview and I just paid attention to their clothes...which were ALMOST IDENTICAL except for extra light grey sleeves on Noora.

Heeeey, sorry if that's the wrong topic for it, but can I have a link?

I don't know if this helps with remembering.

TARF total views for the first episode was 957k (inc. online views), which is around 1/6 of the population of Finland.

I will say I did not expect

what amounted to a double elimination.
-
Lotta and Noora had to withdraw due to health issues. Something about an Achilles tendon.
-
It's certainly not something to ignore, as Dave O'Leary can attest to.

But I thought the mother and son would catch a reprieve, like Chuck & Wynona did. I doubt it was a planned double-elimination.
At least since they started with 12 teams, they can still have the normal number of Non-Eliminations as a standard TAR season
-
Lotta and Noora had to withdraw due to health issues. Something about an Achilles tendon.
Lotta had achilles pain, and Noora had a fever.
-
Third episode was a bit boring. They should have more interesting and long-lasting tasks.
-

Agreed. This one was slow.
I recognized Binh Quoi from TAR31. One of the Detours was near that water wheel, I think only Rachel and Elissa did it.
-
The first episode of this was really great, but everything afterwards has been pretty dull. Everyone's slowed down considerably. Everyone is walking places instead of running, and nobody's really hurrying or expending any effort to get ahead. If they're this worn out already, I don't know how they're going to make it all the way to the end...

I feel the same, yeah.
Don't know what game elements will appear in this season, but I'm hopeful we see a U-Turn, Yield or something of that nature to get them working harder.
-
Also I'm surprised Peter & Anna didn't get a penalty. The clue after the cyclo specifically says to take a metered taxi, but they hopped in the back of a pickup truck.
-
Compared to the past couple of weeks, this one felt more competitive.

With the impromptu double elimination last week, I felt that this would be a NEL.
Next week spoilers: Show content
35 has racers performing a Bhavai dance, and Finland has racers performing a Banga dance. With two pot stack dances in one week, did these seasons share notes yet again?
-
This episode definitely felt like an improvement. Bakari & Samuel seem on track to break some TAR records, but maybe that's due in part to the other teams not hustling enough? 😅
Show content
Same. I 100% expected a NEL this week.
-
Did anyone catch Leg 4's Roadblock prompt? Unlike previous weeks, they didn't display it on screen. It sounded like "Kummalla vatsa kourne?" but I couldn't understand the last word.

"Kummalla vatsa kurnii?" -> "Which one is more hungry?" or "Who's stomach is growling?"

I don't know how we get so many similarities among three different versions of TAR airing week-to-week right now.
Like I said. Show content
We even had a blessing in disguise Detour that lead to a kalesa race to avoid elimination. The Amazing Race gods are working overtime. Jukka & Mirva never really got a footing, so their elimination felt inevitable.
-
Thank God, episode 5 was great and episode 6 also seems great, based on the preview.
Episode 5:
- Great tasks, which require some sort of talent or figuring out stuff
- Jukka's meltdown
I'm still hoping for longer tasks, but I liked the ones in this episode anyway. I wish they could say only "we are in a race", not "Who wants to be a part of Amazing race and be on TV?" like that one team did. Lame.
Finally some sort of extreme activities on the next episode!
My favourites:
- Marcus&Timo, fun and authentic, though Marcus is still a bit rude and unpolite to locals occasionally
- Blonde girls. Athletic, smart and fun
- Bakari&Samuel. Cute.
- Firemen
-
Yeah, the season's finally getting better. The winning streak is over for Bakari & Samuel :o
Show content
I figured Jukka & Mirva would be eliminated soon. They're been stuck at the bottom the whole time
-
This boot order, on the other hand, is horrible (I have no idea of the spoilers for this season other than destinations)
Show content
7 teams left and all 5 of the MM are still in. Rooting for Kaisa and Mari to save it from being an all-MM Final 3, because I just don't see Peter & Anna lasting to the end.
-
Haven't been keeping up with the show, but was definitely looking forward to the show visiting the Philippines.
Yay at an international TAR finally having a task with the banga dance. I wasn't expecting it since I assumed the Leg would only be in Manila. Would love for TARUS to eventually stage the task as well, but up north in Kalinga Province where the dance originates.
The judge was very very lenient though. The teams barely moved lol
-
Anyone able to help my watch it? Official stream is geoblocked here.
-
Easiest Roadblock ever that every team struggled with? :/
So there was no penalty at all for the Non-Elimination Leg?
-
So there was no penalty at all for the Non-Elimination Leg?
Yeap, no penalty.
Episode 6 was good. The frog task was made too easy and even the teams described it as "Easiest task in The Amazing Race history". On the other hand, one team quit it and switched, so I guess it wasn't too easy ...
Marcus & Timo are still the most entertaining. Peter is starting to be annoying and kinda embarassing. Tuukka is kind of straight-forward and seems even a bit rude at times, but then again he is kinda authentic.
Bakari&Samuel & Blonde girls are great and cute.
-
Episode 6 caused a nice shuffle in the placements. Much like in TAR35's Episode 6, the top teams of previous weeks are now near the bottom. I feel like I jinxed Bakari & Samuel by reading too much into their four 1st places out of the gate :funny:
Show content
Ilmari & Aapo were barely surviving every week. It was their time to go.
-
One reason why some of the earlier legs felt stale was due to a lack of equalizers. We finally get one after 6 legs, and it was for the ultralight task from TAR Philippines 1. The frog task was also pretty easy, and the only reason we had a team switch was due to overthinking.
-
I was just thinking after watching the episode, it's unfortunate we lost Jukka & Mirva the leg before this.
Jukka's been the Finnish voice actor of Donald Duck for 30 years. Imagine him breaking out that voice during the "quack, quack, quack" part of the karaoke challenge :funny:
-
finamazing, I need the Roadblock prompt for this week again, if you could get it.
Frog task way too easy, and pointless route marker clue at the entrance to the eco-park, but the teams themselves have pulled out of that low-energy slump that hit them from legs 2 through 4 at least.
Turns out I had Marcus and Timo's identities swapped the whole time, lol...
-
Turns out I had Marcus and Timo's identities swapped the whole time, lol...
They're basically a Finnish Joe & Bill :P
Marcus = Joe, taller, darker-haired
Timo = Bill, shorter, lighter-haired
-
Like the judges were very lenient with the banga dance last week, so they were again with the karaoke task. The pronunciations were horrible and they were completely off beat lol
The Detours also could've been harder.
Still, great to see TAR in the Philippines.
-
finamazing, I need the Roadblock prompt for this week again, if you could get it.
Episode 6, Roadblock:
Rough translation: "Which one of you is a hero themselves?". This is a reference to a Finnish song called "Pilot's son", and the lyrics go something like: "I was a son of a pilot. Almost a hero myself".
Finnish: Tiesulku: Kumpi teistä on lähes sankari siis itsekin?
Episode 7
Decent episode. Marcus&Timo were great and entertaining again, Marcus was fun, making the locals and home audiences laugh with his dancing and singing. It was cute when Timo got emotional. I get it now, Marcus is a kind person, but just lives in the moment and doesn't realize that his straight-forward approach might seem a bit rude, even when he is trying to be somewhat helpful. Timo has been the navigator in their rally races, but I guess in everything else also. Marcus's job was to drive and just drive, Timo was the navigator and the brains, keeping Marcus on track on and off the race, keeping him focused.
Peter is so annoying and delivers second hand embarrasment every episode, and not in a good way. I also hate his know-it-all attitude, however he fails in everything and Anna succeeds. It seems that Anna is also quite fed up with Peter's fake-cheering and unnecessary tips and tactics. Peter is not even the type of "love to hate" character that are made for tv, he is just "annoying to watch".
Tuukka's blunt dead-pan humour is lame. I usually love it, like when Aubrey Plaza does it, but Tuukka doesn't have the comedic skills, which makes him seem either rude, annoyed or bored, depending on the situation.
Special forces men or Athlete women for the win, they are sweet, spontaneous, complex and competitive while still being supportive of other teams. Mari is funny and witty, but she also seems to be quick learner and talented in various ways. Bakari & Samuel are also good, but they seem a bit tired.
-
Peter Vesterbacka is the one person on the cast I'd actually heard of beforehand. I could tell from past articles talking about Angry Birds or Rovio Entertainment (his former game company that created it), he's a pretty straightforward guy.
-
Episode 8
First (and last?) speed-bump. It was weird, that they didn't use it after the first non-elimination leg. While the speed bump was easy, the last team didn't have a chance, since once again the task were once again fairly easily.
Well, next episode seems promising. This one wasn't so good, though Marcus&Timo had some fun moments.
Oh, and it was hard to look at Kaisa's injuries after archery. I really love the attitude blonde athletes have, and Mari is really quirky and sweet.
-
What I'm assuming happened is that Leg 4 was not meant to be a non-elimination leg, but was changed into one when Noora & Lotta withdrew. As such, they did not have a Speed Bump planned for the following leg. I'm guessing none of this was addressed or explained in the episodes though, smh...
I'm getting bored of this really fast. This is almost worse than Australia 7 in terms of destinations...At least that one had India.
-
I'm getting bored of this really fast. This is almost worse than Australia 7 in terms of destinations...At least that one had India.
Same, honestly. It's a combination of a few factors:
-The route's basically Asia 5 except they started from Europe. Several tasks from said season have been re-used, even.
-Little movement in the standings week after week. The top are staying at the top, the bottom are staying at the bottom.
-4 of the Final 5 are MM. The alpha dominance isn't helping enthrall me to a show I can't understand. HaMerotz was better at having interesting and diverse teams to make up for this.
If this gets a second season (apparently the ratings have been decent enough), they really need to go back to the drawing board.
-
The route isn't the biggest factor for me, but the lack of placement changes in multiple legs has been really annoying. Part of that is due to them keeping the Pit Stop time differences after flights. Same problem as TARLA.
Side note G.B. for the RFW, Yogyakarta has a new airport that handles flights from Bali (Yogyakarta International Airport) instead of Adisutjipto.
-
Episode 9
Hmm. Okay episode. Nothing much to say about this one. I'm kinda tired of these dance/sing/play instruments tasks. Especially when they let everyone through eventually, which Marcus&Timo didn't realize.
The human-bull task was once again these tasks, where the difficulty of the task varies a lot, depending on the other people. In this case, which human-bulls the teams got. I know it doesn't matter that much, because this was once again one of these 5 minute tasks but still. At least it was measurable, even though the bulls behaved differently to some.
It was nice that they had one extremISH task.

-
finamazing I wasn't able to get the prompt for either Roadblock in leg 9.
Wire:
- Kumman tasapaino ei järky? -> Which one has better balance?
(This is why Timo&Marcus chose Timo, because they didn't realize that the task involved heights. Timo is afraid of heights).
Instrument:
- Kummalla on rytmi veressä? -> Who's got rhythm?

Episode 10
------------
Finally, some movement in the placements! I'm happy to see BakSam back on top :D
Show content
With 3 episodes and 4 teams left, this was obviously going to be a non-elimination. Funny coincidence that both TAR US and Finland are now on the cusp of all-male final 3, but I'm rooting for Kaisa & Mari to bounce back next leg and prevent that!
-
Episode 10
Great episode. Nice pacing, challenging tasks, changing placements through the episode. And also nice views, it actually felt like they are in Kuala Lumpur and not some random place.
-
Did find it fun to see two locations from the TAR Australia 7 finale (what publicist does that bookstore have) as well as a TAR Asia 4 task (the show's diverging from TAR Asia 5). The season has been regaining some steam after a dire stretch.
-
Episode 11
Good episode. Picture task was interesting and not too straightforward. The battle performance and fruit tasks were a bit boring, since we have already seen similar tasks this season. Also shoot+aim task had been done previously.
Highlight for me was the judge at the fruit display task, quirky and funny. It was about time that the arrogant kid got some "feedback" from his always supportive, long-tempered and calm dad.
If I think about tourism promotion perspective, Malaysia has been very attractive regarding picturesque landscapes, architect, friendly people etc.
All the final teams are great, I wish that the women would win.
-
Episode 12, Season finale
Good episode. I wish they had spent a bit more time in Singapore, but oh well. It was annoying to have yet another dance/test-task. Boring.
Loved the winners.
Improvements for possible future seasons, similar opinions have been seen in Finnish Social Media:
- More diverse tasks (1 dance/season etc)
- Tougher judges, same rules for everyone (It seems, that they sometimes let teams through, if they try x times and so on)
I liked the casting choices, especially: Marcus&Timo, Firemen/Special Forces, Mari&Kaisa, Jukka&Mirva
Pacing and atmosphere was great in many episodes, it had Amazing Race US feeling at times. I hope they let the teams drive themselves at some points during the future seasons.
To be honest, Amazing Race Finland was much better than I expected. The budget is obviously smaller than the one in the USA, so it was pleasant surprise that the editing, locations, music, sound recording and fixing, cast etc. was well done. Improvements that the viewers have complained can be fixed without increasing the budget too much.
Oh yeah, and it would be great to see them going to three continents or for example Finland + other places in Europe + Africa/Asia/Americas.

finamazing, have you heard any word on a season 2 yet? The ratings did well, 1st or 2nd most weeks. So renewal seems inevitable. Hopefully they'll give some regular Finns a chance next time.

Really happy for the show's winners. Well done to them.

Not yet, but they had a press release, where while congratulating the winners, they highlighted huge total views of the series. So I think it is very likely that they make second season.
I think possibe second season will be with celebs, IF they manage to get interesting personas again, who have NOT been in reality tv before.
Non-celebs are a bit risky, but the corporation (Sanoma) that shows Amazing Race Finland has a habit of recycling c-list celebs and "influencers" in all of their other reality shows. Tuukka is a radio host at Sanoma corp., but that was okay, because he hasn't been in other reality shows. Tuukka was also heavily promoting the show in his morning radio show, which made minor headlines, since he shared some behind the scenes information.
There are so many possibilities with celebrity casting. There are many former/current sportsmen, who also have their adult kids in the industry, so they would make up competitive teams. Also many actors/singers have nepo babies grown into industry, and some are very interesting and it would be nice to see their chemistries. Some celeb couples are funny and straightforward, which would make good tv.
If they want to continue casting gay politicians, there are two different gay politicians living with their multi-cultural partners, and they are more fascinating and made for tv, than Ilmari&Aapo.
Finland has such a small population, so I think there are many big names, who woud be willing to do Amazing race. In general Amazing Race also has the best reputation, because you don't have to "damage" your public image with backstabbing and plotting, like in Survivor or Traitors.
-
Program's executive producer Petra Martikainen answered the biggest and most discussed questions of the series. Here's a summary:
Q: Why was the show only filmed in Southeast Asia?
A: This decision was made in collaboration with the channel and the format holder. Having a manageable and clear area allowed us to direct production resources and focus on the execution itself rather than traveling. Additionally, it was important for all parties to minimize the show's carbon footprint, which is why we considered limiting travel an important message for both the audience and the participants.
Q: Why the same flights, etc., were taxis pre-booked?
A: In the Finnish version, production often moved from one location to another on the same flight to keep all production parts manageable. For the excitement of the competition, it's important that there aren't impossible, even daily time differences that could occur if we traveled to destinations on different flights. When necessary, and primarily for safety reasons, production sometimes arranged taxis or other means of transportation for the contestants.
Q: Why were the tasks too easy?
A: The tasks are selected and planned in collaboration with the channel and the format holder. Local experts are also consulted regarding their preferences for potential tasks and the cultural perspectives to be presented.
-
Finally finished watching this. I'd say average to below-average in my opinion. Could have been a lot better, but I've also seen way, WAY worse in other versions.
I only have one question for finamazing, what is the Finnish name of the Finish Line? I know the host says it when Janne & Robin hit the mat. It's "V____ Päätepiste", but I don't know what the V word is.

It's "V____ Päätepiste", but I don't know what the V word is.
Don't speak Finnish, but it sounded like "viimeiselle" meaning last.
