AND we are ON THE AIR, EVERYONE! Smile for the cameras! :)
Previously on TAR, 11 teams began a race around the world. But for the first time ever, the race was suspended by the coronavirus. After nineteen months, seven teams returned ready to race again. Some teams tested their limits while others upheld their commitments. And three fell short - Michael & Moe, Akbar & Sheri, and Lulu & Lala - I'm sorry to tell you you've been eliminated from the race. (Wow, none of the four teams who were on the first time around? :groan:)
Ryan & Dusty started off strong, but a series of struggles had them grasping for a place in the final four. Raquel & Cayla had their share of mistakes and laughter, but the flight attendants never lost sight of their all-female team mission and are hitting their stride when it matters the most. Internet stars Kim & Penn raced with determination and their sense of humor, but it was their love and trust of each other that fueled them to finish in 1st four times. Arun & Natalia had their dreams crushed early, but after a surprise return, the father/daughter duo defied the odds by surviving multiple non-eliminations and raced their way into the final 4.

Coming up to tonight, one team will win THE AMAZING RACE and the one million that comes with it.
All teams chartering 17,000 miles to Portugal! Upon arrival, teams will start in Lisbon at Christ the King in Alamada. They must then drive to Fortaleza de Sao Filipe in Setubal and search the distance for a race flag where they will find the location of their first of two Roadblocks.
Raquel & Cayla depart first and almost drive down the stairs. :lol:

Arun & Natalia and Kim & Penn depart in Group 2 with Natalia knowing Ryan & Dusty are chasing their tails. They want to play it hard today. Arun says they cannot make any mistakes, no room for error. Penn wings it and refuses to ask for directions. Kim says the margin of error is very slim. They came back to the race to show their kids that they wanted to finish what they started.
Ryan & Dusty depart in last to Fortaleza. Dusty believes the bad luck ran out and adversity brings out the character in people.

We come back from commercial break to Arun & Natalia asking for directions while Raquel & Cayla need to backtrack and they bypass the father-daughter duo. Kim & Penn arrive at Fortaleza de Sao Filipe and take in the view to search for a flag. They immediately see the flag and strategize their way to the promenade. "Color blind Penn found the flag!" :lol:
Raquel & Cayla and Kim & Penn notice each other's cars.
Raq & Cayla start scouring the vista while Ryan & Dusty follow from behind.
Arun & Natalia start running into the fort as the two teams leave the site to navigate.

Arun & Natalia spot the flag and start sprinting to their cars. Ryan & Dusty enjoy passing the father-daughter and flight attendants, having their eyes set on beating Kim & Penn.
All teams struggling to get to the flag with Kim & Penn arriving at the fish net clue box.
ROADBLOCK: "Who wants to go exploring?"
One team member must choose a boat with a name of an explorer and row it to the other side of the marina. If they have the correct expeditioner out of a number of celebrities, they will receive their next clue.
Kim and Cayla do the task. Kim doesn't know any of the names on the boats and takes a wild guess. She doesn't know how to row.

Arun & Natalia arrive at the dock in 3rd as Arun does the task. Cayla gets on a boat. "Cristiano Ronaldo is not!" :funny:
Cayla gets on a Bartholomew Diaz boat and struggles to row. Arun tries to pick out a boat.
Meanwhile, Kim gets it right on the first try! Wow!
ROUTE INFO: Travel on foot to Mercearia Confianca de Troino!
Ryan & Dusty arrive while Arun selects a boat of the most Portuguese-sounding name to him. Raquel gets the boat correct and leave the dock in 2nd.

We come back to the vessel vicarity with Arun steadily spinning the boat. Dusty enjoys seeing Arun struggling because there's no time to fall behind while Ryan picks out the wrong boat.
Raquel & Cayla and Kim & Penn ask for directions.
We get end credits music as Arun notices Vasco de Gama. He tries to get back to the shore as fast as possible, unfortunately, Rayn returns and selects the same boat. "You took my booatt!" Dusty roars with excitement with Natalia frustrated.
Kim & Penn arrive at the cafe.
ROUTE INFO: Teams must pick a sardine can and replicate the canister cover by painting it on a door to receive their next clue.

I knew a couple of the explorers. I recognized the name Fernando Pessoa, so that might have fooled me. Amazing how fast they all bunched up just getting to the first clue box.
Looks like Arun almost just made a wise boat switch, but wasn’t quite fast enough.

As Ryan & Dusty go to the cafe, Arun finally starts to get the hang of rowing a boat. Meanwhile, Kim & Penn noticed they picked the hardest canister. Raquel & Cayla arrive and tries to select the fastest one to paint. Ryan & Dusty follow just behind and start painting.

Kim's boat is just the Portuguese name of Magellan. She definitely picked the most obvious one.
These conversions / translations always make me confused. Was educated in Portuguese, and they do translate all the old kings names, then when you start consuming content in English, it takes a while to actually understand who is who. Cause the names don't match.

Kim is flustered a bit while Raquel & Cayla hope they can make up time with accurate art. Dusty is an art enthusiast and tries to quickly finish the mural up. Arun sees no logic behind picking out the boats.
Teams at the painting starting to get sloppy with errors popping up all across the board.
Arun finally gets a correct explorer boat and leave the dock in last.

"I'd rather be painting a sardine can than eating a can of sardines." Raquel & Cayla get a check, but forget an octopus' tentacle. Meanwhile, Kim & Penn get a second check only to forget another painted-black letter. Raquel & Cayla notice their error and ask for another check.
They get the clue!
ROUTE INFO: Drive to Santuario de Cabo Especial!
"We're gonna lose The Amazing Race if we can't paint" - Kim.
Third time's the charm and they leave the site in 2nd!
Ryan & Dusty found Arun & Natalia not showing up as surprising. And just in time, they show up at the door.

Raquel & Cayla want to ask for directions, but are missing their Route Info clue and map back at the sardine murals. Uh oh. "This is how we go out, because I lost the frickin' map." - Cayla
Ryan & Dusty get a check with a disapproval. Arun & Natalia see a glimmer of hope. Meanwhile, Kim & Penn are driving to the location. Raquel & Cayla go to buy another map at a gas station.

Ryan & Dusty and Arun & Natalia are still painting with Ryan & Dusty absolutely lost on the doorknob portion, repeatedly looking over it. Dusty can't figure out what they are doing wrong.

I’m enjoying this so far. The tasks allow people to excel or screw up, so plenty of opportunities to scramble up the positions.

We return from break to Ryan & Dusty's mural mystery. They are painting over things that don't need to be painted. :funny:
Meanwhile, Arun & Natalia feel like they are catching up.
Kim & Penn arrive at the sanctuary and find the second Roadblock.
ROADBLOCK: "Who has to do this Roadblock?"
The other team member who did not perform the last RB must count the total number of columns within a vantage point and go to a monk at a prayer house to give the number. If they are right, the monk will point the direction to Farol do Cabo Espechal, the Pit Stop of this leg. Last team to check in will be eliminated.
Penn is absolutely taken aback by the perspective.
Meanwhile, Ryan and Dusty finally find the sneaky doorknob and receive their clue.

Arun and Natalia didn’t have to paint the doorknob but Dusty and Ryan did? Huh?

Natalia finds the right balance of speed and accuracy. Penn finds this is a vision test which he has very poor attributes over and decides to turn this into a marathon where he is just throwing out a bunch of numbers. Arun & Natalia leave the murals in last.
Raquel & Cayla still driving in a tired expression while Ryan & Dusty find the correct route.
Penn is continuously guessing while Raquel & Cayla arrive at the sanctuary. Cayla finds this difficult, but ends up getting 106, the correct number, on the first try! Wow! :o
Penn recounts with a steady rhythm and in groups, also getting it correct right after. They leave in 2nd.

Ryan & Dusty arrive at the sanctuary.
Raquel & Cayla look around for the lighthouse. Kim & Penn see them in the distance and want to catch up.
And.... RAQUEL & CAYLA are the first team to arrive at the mat. They are officially TEAM NUMBER ONE! They win a trip for two to St. Lucia. (Wait, I thought they forgot their Route Info clue? ???)

Raquel & Cayla are speechless and are excited for the journey back to the States. KIM & PENN arrive just behind and are TEAM NUMBER TWO!
Meanwhile, Arun & Natalia still finding their way to the sanctuary and Dusty is still counting doubles.

We return to the perspective challenge with Dusty trying another attempt. 103 - incorrect.
Natalia leading the way while Dusty goes for another attempt. 106 - correct!
They leave to the lighthouse in 3rd. They arrive on the mat and are officially TEAM NUMBER THREE. "We are going to be savages next leg." - Dusty
Natalia does the RB and starts counting columns. Her first attempt is correct and they proceed to the Pit Stop. They arrive and are the LAST TEAM to arrive. They have unfortunately been eliminated from the race a second time. They are proud of each other and Phil recognizes their courage.

I'm sure 4th place was who many of us were expecting. No more NEL's.

I liked Arun and Natalia because they were super fans but they made so many mistakes. Why did they value accuracy over speed when they were last? Clearly the weakest team, so probably best they didn’t advance.
I have to admit I’d be out on the first leg, so who am I to criticize?

Coming back to the season finale arriving in the U.S.A., we start the race at a helipad of Westin Bonaventure. Teams must locate a clue box on one of the three cylinders and spot the combination on the elevator to unlock the box and receive their next clue.
Kim & Penn and Ryan & Dusty start searching with no luck while Raquel & Cayla see the elevator code. They unlock the box and must travel to El Pueblo de L.A. Kim & Penn also get the clue by looking at the elevator. Meanwhile, Ryan & Dusty decide to ride the elevator.
Raquel & Cayla and Kim & Penn get directions to the Old Plaza.

Ryan & Dusty don't see s--- up on the elevator. :lol: They don't know what to do. Kim & Penn notice the bros had a clue in their hands, but realize they were still searching. Ryan & Dusty are completely lost on what to do. They get to another tower and see the padlock's already opened. Pressure is starting to set.

Self-driving in a final leg? When's the last time this happened?! Always wondered about the fairness of leaving a team's win in the hands of taxi drivers.
Guess this is one upside to filming the race during a pandemic.

ROUTE INFO: Teams must smash open pinatas to find three parts of a clue. One team member must be blindfolded while the other has to be the caller and direct their partner to break open three specific figures.
This is fun! :lol: Both starting to hit the pinatas with Penn flinging one into outer space / the other side of the park.
Dusty & Ryan FINALLY get the code to go to the plaza.
Raquel and Penn both have to smash the taco pinatas with both having the same strategy of grabbing the clues afterward instead of holding everything at once blindly.
Dusty is frustrated and still driving to the location. Both Kim & Penn and Raquel & Cayla are giving good leadership and communication efforts. Raquel & Cayla get all parts of their clue.
ROUTE INFO: Drive to Sunset Boulevard and find SIR Hollywood to pick up the next clue.

Penn starts smashing open a donkey pinata, but no clue is inside. Kim is laying down on the ground and Penn just knows she is struggling with this task and wants to comfort her. They realize they may need to smash open all the pinatas at one point.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the intricacy of this task while Raquel & Cayla do their attempt at the moments. They get their clue!
ROUTE INFO: Drive to the home of the LA Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Stadium and locate their next clue on the grounds!
Kim & Penn also finish and find Raquel & Cayla upfront. They wish they could've told he guy with directions to not help them, but they love Mom and Pop too much to do that. Meanwhie, the bros finally arrive at the foley task.

The only thing I consider "iconic" from season 24 is shaving the balloons in Seville, Spain because it symbolizes the bargain-basement tasks of that season #AmazingRace

Returning to the season finale, we get Raquel & Cayla arriving at Gate D Entrance and leave their car to the clue.
ROUTE INFO: Solve the riddles with this memory task!
Teams must use tennis paddles and arrange them to answer specific phrases regarding the previous legs.
Raquel & Cayla quickly assembling the riddle together with flashbacks from previous legs and we get out Thessaloniki greeter moment. Everything makes sense now!
Kim & Penn arrive!

Kim took tedious notes of the previous legs and had a feeling that it was the images that would be important. She is also quickly setting up the board neck and neck with Cayla.
Ryan & Dusty get their clue from the foley task.
Raquel & Cayla and Kim & Penn all getting the paddles, but Raquel & Cayla get a check first. They don't have the coin and candies correct. Kim & Penn get a check and receive a fault with the coin.

I'm so bummed they didn't get the other four teams to at least be recognized. Caro & Ray, Taylor & Isaiah, Connie & Sam, and Anthony & Spencer were very much a part of this season as them. :(

Unpopular opinion, I wanted Ryan and Dusty to win (LOL) so I'm disappointed but in general, I'm happy there was some sort of relatively good memory challenge in the final leg unlike 31 and 32. Not close to how good season 30's ending was but producers can't always be perfect i guess :duno:
Kim and Penn honestly screamed winners to me for the longest so I'm not exactly surprised. All the "we're going to be the fourth all-female team to win" quotes ALMOST made me believe Raquel and Kayla won but inside I knew those had to be red herrings.

Great final episode! One of the best! I might be biased because Kim and Penn were my favorites. I really thought Raquel and Cayla would win because they kept showing them talk about being the fourth all-woman team to win the Amazing Race. I figured that was foreshadowing.

That was imo the best finale in years. Congratulations to Kim & Penn! I had a feeling they would if anything memory came into play, since we've seen the power of Penn's brain.
Also, it made me quite happy to see Taylor & Isaiah make it to the finish line. They were perhaps the non-returning team I missed most of all! ^_^

Nearly two years to the day after the season was shutdown, it has finally aired to completion.
The past few legs really began to set up a showdown between Kim & Penn and Raquel & Cayla with Ryan & Dusty falling off after Corte. Across both legs we got a pretty good finale with several tasks that tripped up the teams easily like the painting, forced perspective, foley, and tennis rackets. Overall this was a decent season with leg designs that were held back by COVID but was still competitive and had good winners. Congratulations to Kim & Penn.

Honestly kind of gutted that Raquel & Cayla lost- they kicked so much ass throughout the race and I tried not to get my hopes up as the editors teased us with "we'll be the 4th all-female team to win" umpteen times heading into tonight. I enjoyed them from the beginning and related to their story of being unemployed and needing the money. I know it's not fair to judge some seasons of TAR/Survivor by need and not others, but I had hoped that the million would go to the women who had to move back in with their parents or the man who lost ten years of his life over the couple that gets to make videos with their kids for a living. That being said, Kim & Penn ran a flawless race and it's nice to see a memory task that actually impacts the finish of the race. These final 3 teams were excellent and it was a privilege to watch The Amazing Race during such uncertain times.
In terms of Leg design, Portugal was bland, but this was probably my favorite LA Finale yet! I was terrified that the Westin Bonaventure would host a stunt task like TAR28 as soon as it was spoiled and ruin the leg like it did in that season. However, I don't think this leg was that linear, though perhaps my perception was affected by Raquel & Cayla and Kim & Penn being so close. Even so, tasks that are fun and test teams' communication, and, well, teamwork like the piñatas and Foley art should, imo, be a staple of the race and it was nice to see the finale moving in that direction. Great leg design that certainly softens the results' blow.

Gutted to see R&C losing bur i perfectly knew that the last two tasks were meant to be K&P lanes.
was hoping to see A&N in the finale as well but yeah you couldnt have both :lol:
Decent penultimate leg followed by a 'one of the best' finale yet. Portugal leg was so exciting with how many tasks could screwed you up despite that wasnt the case, loved the second rb especially. Loved the finale, because all tasks were just so challenging and fundamental as well. Would like to see typical tasks like pinata and foley tasks for the finale, because they are just so ideal for the final. Memory task was pretty good as well, simple memory task, but the distractions here made racers second guessing their work.

This is why I love this show. The amount of production that goes into it. I love travelling and this is the closest thing that I can get to travel during this pandemic. No other show can top that.

Loved this season but I wanted either Ryan & Dusty or Raquel & Cayla to win. Congrats to Kim & Penn for making history.

Raquel & Cayla almost driving down the stairs was amusing, and Ryan & Dusty's struggle at the painting task provided a bit of intrigue. However, the end result in Portugal wasn't exactly unpredictable, and despite Natalia getting the Roadblock on the first try, I think it was their time to go. Arun & Natalia gave us some great moments on this race, but ultimately they weren't quite strong enough to make the final three.
This was definitely one of the better Los Angeles legs we've seen, and it demonstrates that a stunt task is not needed to craft an excellent final leg. I also appreciated the visit to El Pueblo de Los Ángeles - many other legs in this city have glossed over the Hispanic culture that is integral to California's biggest city.
Kim & Penn were deserving winners; they were strategic, level-headed, and consistent, and sometimes that eclipses pure strength or deft cleverness.
Raquel & Cayla were super endearing this episode and were one racket away from winning a couple times. I think they proved themselves as racers and I'd love to see them back.
Dusty & Ryan had no shortage of energy during the race and if not for the snag with the elevators, we could have seen a three-horse race all the way to the end.
Wonderful to see the shoutout to the crew- they deserved it after being the backbone of the team that made this race happen despite many of the most challenging logistical hurdles we've seen in the show's history. I'm glad that they executed it safely, and may this be a sign of great things to come in the future.

Hot take here but....I really loved the last two legs!
As much as I was happy about TAR being back, I felt like some of those middle legs (France and Greece) were a bit meh.
(Still really happy to have them tho)
But I really liked that Portugal leg (the self-driving switching the order a bit, the rowing was physical but with a twist, the painting was great, and then the final roadblock was hard a good also + the pitstop involved a race)
And that finale was THE BOMB! Loved every tasks. Was rooting for the girls but I still very happy with a Penn/Kim win! Our oldest winning team!!

The only thing I consider "iconic" from season 24 is shaving the balloons in Seville, Spain because it symbolizes the bargain-basement tasks of that season #AmazingRace

I loved both both legs, the tasks were great probably the top 2 this season, especially the final leg. I like Arun & Natalia but unfortunately they are weak and keep making mistake, the top 3 deserved in the final.
Ryan & Dusty remind me of Leo & Jamal (season 31). Both team lost because they struggled in the first challenge in the final leg at the skyscraper. I knew Cayla & Raquel got Kristy & Jen's edit but when they always in the lead since the beginning until the final task, i was hoping i was wrong. It was so close and so sad they lost in the memory challenge. Congrats Kim & Penn.

Late to the party (as I tend to watch a couple days later on Paramount+) but overall I thought the final leg was really good. It was nice to see the 3 strongest teams make it to the final leg as I thought going into it, I could any of the 3 teams win. Raquel & Cayla and Kim & Penn were 2 of my favorite teams this year being neck and neck competing for the win and didn't know until the very end who won until Kim & Penn had gotten the final memory challenge. A great finale to a pretty good season.

Overall the post-COVID Legs did a great job when trying to hide the teams from crowded public area. However, these do made the tasks become repetitive

I Facebook DMed Natalia and she confirmed that her team didn’t have any lines to paint, although they painted their doorknob a little bit.
