And we are live! :clap2:

Previously on TAR, 11 teams set out on a race around the globe! We hit one million miles starting from Hollywood! Three teams formed an early bond, through surprising legs, and hair-raising challenges! (cue Hung's freakout) The bond between these three teams grew stronger as others began becoming knocking out. And one final move to take out the biggest competitors of all. For the first time, an alliance of three advanced to the final three. In the finale, volleyballers, boyfriends, and Hung & Chee will battle for the one million dollars. Who will win?

Riley & Maddison depart 1st at 5:58 AM from Manila.

FLY TO NEW ORLEANS! Upon arrival, teams must travel into the French Quarter to pick up their next clue.

Volleyballers talk about peaking on the race after being in 4th different times in the beginning. They talk about growing together as brothers, as a cohesive force. Will & James depart a few minutes later in 2nd. They talk about the money changing their lives.

Hung & Chee depart in last at 6:04 A.M. and talk about their dynamics.

Will & James bypass Riley & Madisson on the highway! Hung & Chee talk about this being winning instead of survival. Riley & Madisson think they have a shortcut.

Meanwhile, boyfriends arrive at the clue box first. Collect 50 red and 50 gold beaded necklaces from Bourbon Street to receive your next clue from the grand marshal.

Hung & Chee get to the clue 2nd!

Will & James reach the float where the marshal is sitting and are catching necklaces from there. Hung & Chee are not behind and catch up to them. Live jazz music is playing! Super entertaining!

Is it just me, or do Will & James sound more subdued in their voiceovers? I don't want to read too much into it bc it could lean either way.

We come back to an episode of Riley & Maddison's misadventures of navigation! They get directions from a local and find the park eventually. "There is a million dollars on the table. We're gonna make up time..."

They find the crowds on the intersection. Hung & Chee are counting all beads. The marshal requires all the larger beaded necklaces and they get disapproved. Will & James also realize this mistake. Riley & Maddison begin pretend flashing their throwers.

Hung & Chee and Will & James slowly go up the count. Boyfriends get their clue 1st. ROADBLOCK: Who will be left holding the baby? One team member must find the baby in the king cake to receive the next clue. On the way there, teams must play the washboard with the band on the way to the bakery. Which bakery specifically?

No lie, the beignet task is the most brutal of the leg so far
You need water to get the dry pastry down, but the water makes the dough expand in your stomach :funny: I'm sure it's a gross feeling!

We come back to Will's beignet bend-down bonanza. "We're losing so much time." This is reminding me of the Charla & Mirna sausage Detour all of a sudden.

Chee realizes he has to go through the cake crumbles one by one after missing it.

Travel by taxi to the New Orleans Convention Center and look at the entrance of Hall H for your next clue.

Even Hung sees the baby and Chee hasn't.

Will & James get to the convention center and get to Hall H. ROADBLOCK: Who wants to bridge the gap? Teams must take a marked chauffeur to Crescent City Connection where one team member must swing above the Mississippi River to grab their next clue in pitch dark.

"Your face lit up when you saw the idea of the king cake." - James

Hung & Chee are falling behind, but Chee defeatedly finds the baby. Hung gives a smile worth recapturing in a gif.

"More eating, less talking" - Hung

Meanwhile, James has to swing over the Mississippi.

Mardi gras world could have been a perfect spot for the memory challenge, imagine they had to search stuff around the mardi grass and its floats for stuff they have encountered on the race

Overall a decent leg, the only task that was brutal was beignet task, but yeah its pretty much linear finale

I really liked the tasks this finale on the cultural aspect, though transferring the music task to this leg instead and leaving a relevant cultural task as the last task before the Pit Stop back in Manila would have been awesome. The globe is pretty general knowledge.

Holy cow, the missed opportunity with the jazz band at the French Quarter as well as the teledisco. :groan:

I admit they're not my first choice to win (I thought they would be a little bit more like the Beekmans) but they ran a pretty flawless race, took full advance of their traveling experiences advance as well as past and recent seasons lessons and literally grabbed the win in THE END.

Kaylynn & Haley - "we're proud of you. We're so happy for you."
Does they having a time of speech mean they actually get a chance of returning?  :luvya:
Like CaroJen did in Season 22  :hfive:

Meanwhile, the editing of this finale is strange.. They don't even attempt to make any suspense on the winning of Will & James  :groan:

This season starts out strong, keeps deteriorating since India, and the finale is one of the worst in recent seasons  :groan:

Leg design wise, I can't help but seriously admire the amount of tasks sandwiched in- the production team really made use of the locations and I'm sure they're proud of that! Between traveling by washboard, adding a second rappel task, and adding in a little clue that fit the Jazz aesthetic, there were little task-ettes that made the leg shine.

However, it wasn't super challenging, and besides the King Cake RB, which was luck-based (maybe a little skill?) there unfortunately wasn't much room for teams to advance themselves.

Perhaps Will & James would have passed the others if they were last to the first RB, but instead they only expanded their lead. Like Peach said, a memory task would have been fantastic. I didn't think the Crescent City Connection added much to the leg and the French Quarter could easily have served as the adrenaline-heavy venue of the leg, replacing the typical means of adding craziness to final legs.

All in all, I respected the production teams' willingness to become more flexible with ARIs replacing Detours/Roadblocks, a la HaMerotz LaMillion; hopefully the next step can be making these ARI more challenging and permitting of placement shifts.

ZBC, it's the second Louisiana leg :funny:

I am saying it was better then family edition
At least it's a better featured visit. :funny:

Louisiana was treated more like a city on a road trip than a leg.

I feel like the gap between Will & James and Hung & Chee were a blowout. After they left Cafe Beignet, who knows how long Chee took to locate the missing baby. It became pretty obvious who was going to win when Hung & Chee were two task-ettes behind them when they were en route to the convention center.

They were supposed to get married last October but due to the pandemic, they rescheduled their wedding to March 2021.

Well, all I have to say is that the tasks on this leg were fantastic. I really enjoyed the night finale in NOLA and was glad there was no "hand-holding" on this leg. Disappointed about Will & James winning. They were master manipulates throughout the entire season and and if they didn't have the Mine Five alliance, hey would have been out several legs earlier.

Hopefully 33 & 34 can get back out there mid-2021 once the pandemic has subsided and for goodness sake, BAN ALLIANCES!

Currently waiting for the casual fans to be extremely excited about the winning team... a few have already had a go at me on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram!  :funny:

Congrats to the winners!

However, what a badly designed finale leg. Completely linear. Also a lost opportunity to use the Mardi Gras World as a memory task.

New Orleans has always been high on finale places for me, and this leg brought the Mardi Gras spirit but did fall into the trap I dislike of one team getting a lead and keeping it.
This finale was reminiscent of 29's where teams got separated after the second task and never really saw each other.
The beads task brought back one final instance of read your clue.
King cake is obvious New Orleans, but it lead to a portion of the finale decided by luck.
The bridge swing was very similar to 28's first Roadblock.
Interesting that both seasons that visited New Orleans had a map puzzle as the final task rather than memory.
Despite the lack of place changes, I did find the ending emotional. Finally getting onto TAR after years, winning TAR, and then getting engaged.

Congrats to Will & James.  :2hearts:

It's airport scramble vs task struggling.

More tasks but less time consuming allows the editors to focus on airport dramas.

Less tasks but more time consuming allows the producers to set the teams up for blatant blunders.

I guess it depends. As long as teams are up and moving throughout the whole episode, that's where I think a finale is most successful. TAR12 is a great example of a modern finale leg. You have tasks relevant to the region and collectively, but don't have teams just stalled somewhere after completing a task. It doesn't dig up the winner directly off of basic knowledge and basic premises. This is where legs like TAR15 and last season's falls flat.

TAR 21 finale was also a success. I guess you really need to have have a successful final memory challenge. As long as you can have a real battle for the win in the last challenge, you would have a memorable finish. That's why I really think the music task should have been in the finale. Imagine what could have been if none of the teams held each other's hand to get through that challenge.

Anyways, Will & James were the ones that deserved this win the most.

Even if there isn't a memory task, i'd prefer something more mentally straining than this

The (sorta-kinda) "memory" Challenge was on Ep 11 this time.

But I totally agree . It needs to be challenging, real, and on the FINALE leg.

Here’s my suggestion: NO first class flight for the teams on the final leg.

It's so frustrating to have teams so well-rested that they have enough strength to run everywhere, finish the tasks and planning their winning speech before hand. It's tough feel emotional when the winner's reaction is highly compromised. It took the fun out of it.

Edit: Like they will buy flights in advance to save money then buy teams first class seats in the final leg???

What a bad leg...
It's honestly really sad because this is one of, if not the worst leg/episode this season.
We really did start on a high and start plummeting faster and faster with this season. If I ever decide to rewatch this season, I'll stop after Leg 7 Kazakhstan, Leo & Alana's elimination. I liked the Indian megaleg design-wise, too, but it's just not worth rewatching due to the predictability it had even on 1st watch.

I don't have a great memory on finale legs, and am obviously biased right now, but this feels to me like of the worst-designed finale legs ever. At least in recent memory it's by far the most linear, least suspenseful, least challenging, etc. The lack of a memory task, of course, plays a big part.
We had wonderful finales for 30 & 31, imo. I didn't have high hopes going in for this one, but I didn't expect it to be this bad...

Was really rooting for Hung & Chee, but I guess Will & James most deserved to win after completely masterminding this season. It just felt like this season of TAR was way too much like Survivor/BB with strategy talk, compared to previous seasons. And weirdly, it's not even S31's impact - that season only filmed months ago and hadn't been announced yet.

I don't know what happened to TAR, but I understand Phil & co.'s frustration to the point Phil hosts a new show instead of filming S33.
Maybe cool recruits are better for this show than your average superfans. Cast fewer superfans please.

I don't agree with people saying Will & James would have been out before this if not for the alliance.
Yes they got help and will be remembered for this, but being objective 100%, the 3 times they really got help, it wouldn't really make a difference..

Leg 4: Roadblock in Paraguay, James got help with the construction of the musical instrument, but they still finished first because of the roadblock, so worst case they would be 2 or 3.

Leg 6: Berlin, unless they have a meltdown, the blondes bandits are wayyyy behind them

Leg 8/9: James again getting help for the roadblock, but again the blondes are sooo far behind.

And of course, who knows for the roadblock in Philippines... I feel like they read their clue at the right time, so they would still survive.

Was really disappointed with this task, the first task and the first roadblock were great, but after it was really boring. And they didn't really even try to hide it...

it is not the problem of casting Superfans. Brooke & Scott were superfans and they played a mind game, and doing an alliance too for S29. What is different is that they are aligning with the weaker teams (LoLo) instead of like Will & James who are aligning with the stronger teams and getting rid of the much weaker teams. Furthermore, Brooke & Scott themselves created enough drama whereas Will & James do not  :groan:

To me, Will & James are more like more evil and worse version of Justin  :groan: Justin lost TAR27 after being cocky throughout the entire season is accomplishing, whereas the winning of the boyfriends just further made TAR32 a worse season to me.

I liked, didn't love this season.  It really helped that for the most part no team just completely pissed me off.  As for the leg itself, it really felt back to the basics of TAR.  What was it season 9 that was first that had a real memory challenge at the end?  This type of leg seems designed to keep teams close.  No huge amount of traveling, no activities in one state (or country) before getting to final destination state.  No booking your own travel arrangements.  But one team got hurt heavy by cab / their own navigation.  By the 2nd tasks thanks to Will being thorough and knowing what to look for, he just slaughtered the two other teams (Riley & Maddison could have passed Hung and Chee if they also didn't have to basically complete the task twice).  Once you see that no team catches them at either of the next two locations (and one would have set up time, the other time to complete task), you know unless cab gets lost(or team unable to figure out Saints refer to the NFL team) then they have it in the bag.

I was just extremely bored throughout this leg.
The race wasn't exciting, the locations/tasks weren't, and it just felt drawn out for no reason when it was obvious what was happening.

Also, definitely my least favorite winners since S26, at least.

Well about the upgrade on the flight, the show probably didn't have a choice. It looks like they flew Philippine Airlines from Manila to Los Angeles. (No, there are no direct Manila-New Orleans flights like the show made it seem lol)

And Manila-USA flights are usually fully booked in Economy for months. Especially in December for Christmas. So the only seats left could conceivably be the ones in Business Class (which is the most premium class on PAL).

Cool to see a night leg for the second time in three seasons; the NOLA downtown/Mardi Gras was perfect for a night leg too.

Business class seats are a nice touch for the racers- they may be more well-rested, but they're going to be jet lagged anyway. MNL-LAX-MSY is 9,000 miles.

Loved the French/Cajun tie-ins, like the king cake/beignet task all the way down to Phil saying "let the good times roll" (laissez les bons temps rouler- of course, that was also a pun with the sphere).

I was worried for Hung at the Roadblock. Not only is her wingspan shorter, it seemed like the wind was blowing her clue around a lot. Thankfully she got it on the first try though.

I was predicting that the teams would have to do something to their globe after it was done, like place pins on the places they visited or something. I was a bit surprised when they just had to assemble it to get their clue- this contributed to the linearity of the leg.

Happy for Will and James- although the edit probably made it seem like they were in first just due to getting the initial task done in first place, but they certainly ran the best leg of the three and deserved the win. The proposal was unexpected but welcome!

I'm hoping for more surprises next season. While this one was fairly well-designed, there were a lot of predictable eliminations and finishes. No matter what, I'll be glad to get TAR33 when it's time.  :waves:

Better tasks at the locations they did use:

-the Manila music task on Bourbon Street. Have different bands scattered throughout the French Quarter. Teams must identify the country and put them in order. Can possibly incorporate the beads still. Maybe teams have to collect necklaces with country flags and use those to identify the music/countries.

-A TAR12 or TAR30-style Final Task at Mardi Gras World where teams have to assemble a float featuring items, locations, etc from the Race.

That's exactly what I thought.

- The Manila music task seemed out of place tbh. I think they originally wanted/planned to do the music memory challenge on the French Quarter but having some issues that they have to move the idea to the penultimate leg.
- Having them to go to the Mardi Gras World with all those floats really scream an excellent final memory challenge site. Combining with TAR12/TAR30 task would actually be one of the best final memory challenge. What a waste of opportunity. :(

I wonder when was the last time we saw a final leg without any position change like this.. :duno:

A trend that I can observe is that there is much less hate being directed to the boyfriends ( now engaged)   :woohoo::clap2:) after the final leg was aired

It seems that many seemeingly understand that it was the production / the design of the legs that made the race boring but not the alliance / teams themselve.

Anyway, congratulations to Will and James and happily ever after  :luvya:

The finale episode is amazing and love the cultural city life tasks in New Orleans at the night leg. It has been two years I had waited for this so long that I will miss TAR 32 and will head to TAR 33 if that season will resume by 2021.

very disappointed, one of the weakest final legs IMO. I'm OK with whoever win, but the tasks were not challenging for a final leg. There was no changing placement, and of course no memory task. Basically whoever arrive first at the task will win the leg. Even the editing didn't try to show us the tension and close gap between the winner and the runner up

I couldn't even finish watching it once I knew who was winning.  I was actually bored watching the episode to begin with... spent more time concentrating on a game on my tablet.

There were some good teams on this race but unfortunately, they went out too early in my opinion. Mostly due to their own mistakes.

Definitely not one of my favorite seasons and definitely not one I would ever consider watching again.  I missed an episode a couple weeks ago because of an important phone call and didn't even try to watch it online later.

Yeah, this season is probably on the bottom of my favorite list.

They have been doing this fr years. I LIKE having the final 3 rested and on their best game play. Makes it more fun for me to watch!

Teams were also held back at the airport. There was a several hour period from their arrival to their release.

Sucks that first taxi/navigation played such a role.

I too was expecting a BIG memory challenge here. The beads was okay...required attention to color and size. And from being right there there was also an element of getting the crowd involved so they wuld toss the beads to YOU. You really had to WORK the crowd which I don't think came across on TV.The find the baby eating challenge was local color but essentially a random luck based task. I do not want LUCK on the final leg. I want SKILL--in using transportation/memory challenges (hard!) and expect the finalle to incorporate a truly challenging course.

The non-memory Globe was a waste. Had it incorpotrated adding a flad to the exact locations or or SOMETHING memory related it could have been better.

Having said all that...I anm VERY happy with our winners. Having true fans who actually APPPLIED  (Hung and Chee fit this as well!) is far preferable to be that having recruited teams win.

James and WIll will do us proud! Very happy with the outcome.

Congratulations to the whole cast for an entertaining season!

I understand that you want to be nice to the finalists but don't you want them to test their limit? Under normal circumstances, I bet a lot of people would find the tasks to be piece of cake and the team would blow by those tasks quickly. There's not much joy in doing (or watching someone doing) something you know you can do without problems hence why it's looked like Will & James only got excited about winning the race & not about finishing the tasks. We come on the race beside winning the money, to accomplish something, isn't it? That's why in the past a lot of team never quit even when they knew they were dead last and at their breaking point & that's when the fun comes in for me. They had been racing without first class flight every legs, why stopped there?

It was 100% mostly the alliance that made the race boring. Production was great for most of the legs this season – imo the only poorly designed legs were 2 & 12. We had the alliance ruin multiple tasks like the Berlin RB.

They have been flying business or 1st on the home leg for years. I agree with making the tasks challenging.

I worked at the New Orleans Times-Picayune almost 6 years. I was shocked that Will couldn't eat 6 beignets. Mardi Gras World is fascinating and can be eerie, especially at night. I wished they had had to run around more in there. I was disappointed the Boyfriends won. It seemed like they were always performing, unlike Hung & Chee who seemed sincere.

Do we know by how far the boys were to Hung/Chee?
The fact they didn't even see each other at the globe challenge makes me think they had 60+ minutes

I feel like it's the first time the show isn't even trying to make it seem close.... like it was just.... as soon as they started doing the globe we knew they were going to win

In one of the interviews, TVLine I think, Will or James estimated 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Which to me sounds about right.

You guys are repeating that over and over again...
How were they gonna make it seem close when Will & James were never at a task with another team after the king cake task??

I get you, but then that means the leg was poorly designed... It ended up being the luck task that made Will and James win.
The irony is that it looked like was just pushing with his fingers but that ended up being the easiest way to find the baby.

That's exactly the point - the leg was poorly designed.
Wish we knew how long the cake task took for each team.

Not really. But it seems to me that the CBS has over-emphasised the importance of the alliance on the race. But if you take a closer look, the teams took themselves out regardless of the alliance.

Father/Son left their belongings in Manaus, Sisters navigation problems in Chantilly, Leo and Alana's struggle with detour and tried 10 times, blonde bandits cab madness in Hyderbad. I agree that the alliance dominated the season, but the influence is not really that big.

The most controversial leg is the Berlin and Manila leg. For the Berlin leg, it was an NEL so that the actual effect 'answer-sharing' was nullified, and the blondes are WAY WAY behind, which will only make little, if none difference in the placement of the teams.

For the Manila leg, the music task was both poorly designed and executed. I have listened to the France string quartet back and forth for 10 times, and I can't even match the rock version with it.

In general a few of the legs are poorly designed, as you have suggested such as the Bogota and Nola leg. But I'll add Manila and Paris leg to the list. Both of the legs seems like to be putting random tasks together

We would have to check if the twins could survive without taking TWO yields...

Emm based on the track record of the blondes in the prior legs...
I will say that even if they make through this leg they will soon be eliminated in Cambodia given that they cannot outcompete other teams physically, regardless of the alliance and uturn being used on them

I will say the blondes may caught up to Eswar and Aparna,  and I am convinced that  and it is fair to say will  both teams got lucky and the alliance / NEL bring them further then their ability could’ve

But I do think L/A and M/V being eliminated in Almaty and Paris is such a bummer
