The Amazing Race first aired in the US in 2001 and has just been confirmed to return to CBS for a 32nd season in late 2019.
So no TAR 33 filiming this year? I thought 2 Seasons of filiming per year as per Phil.
Since there's no news on CBBUS3, TAR32 might get stuck in that January-February slot again with the TAR30 airing pattern which is definitely not ideal. But it does give CBS some data to help decide whether or not to greenlight TAR33 sooner of course.
Does CBS have any new reality shows again for next season? If not, that gives TAR a better shot of getting off the bench.

I think this article says TAR 32 is CONFIRMED for a late 2019 airing. NOT 2020.
Devil's advocate here: "Late 2019" could also mean late in the 2019 television season, which goes September 2019 to May 2020. Would love for it to actually air this year though. If not, then I loved season 30's Wednesday slot.
There’s a factor against waiting too long into the late spring/early summer of 2020 to air season 32.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Summer Games.
Any new shows to watch out? The ones with potential of being low rating flops and to be replaced by TAR32?
CBS' new drama All Rise premiered with a low 0.7 demo rating. Maybe they'll pull it?
Survivor pulled a 1.4 this past Wednesday, and SEAL Team lost 50% of that lead in, pulling a 0.7. All Rise is taking on water fast and it's not owned by CBS, so they're not gonna put up with a new show, with no buzz, pulling in a 0.6. All Rise is going against MNF, but Progidal Son pulled a .8 compared to All Rise's .6.

CBS today ordered 'back' orders (aka full season orders) of all 5 of it's new shows (Evil, All rise, Carols second act, Unicorn, and Bob loves Abishola). So none of those shows are going anywhere for a while (plus Evil was renewed for a second season).
SEAL team is in its 3rd season, so it's not going anywhere either. 4 seasons/88 episodes is a magic number for shows to get sold to syndication, so once it makes season 3, a renewal for 4 is exceedingly likely.
They still have Macgyver as well as criminal minds and a new drama waiting on the bench along with TAR. I'd be surprised if we see TAR 32 before the spring if I'm being honest. But on the other hand, they're not sitting on 2 new awful reality shows that they're trying to promote like last year, so maybe we'll get lucky and get a winter spot.
In the past couple years, CBS has laid out their winter/spring schedules in the last week of November, so we should know more then hopefully. 29 and 31 were both announced at this time and eventually moved up a bit to replace struggling newcomers. 30's January date was also announced then.

Agreed, SEAL Team is going nowhere, but it pulled a 0.6 this week. Good lord that's horrendous. I think the preferred cutoff for syndication is 5 seasons/100 episodes, so it will be on one more season at least.
Evil was already renewed for a second seson, All Rise only got a partial back order of 5 episodes.

Does CBS hate this show? It did amazing during its Winter 2018 run and since then it has been moved to Summer... what a joke.

I don't think CBS has been quite as high on TAR since around the time of the failure of Season 24 (which is when they started pushing the producers to do the themes). And now that Moonves is gone, it's even less.
Of the reality big 3, Survivor will always take precedence. That show is CBS' baby.
I'm going with Phil's "early 2020" until we hear more.
Once a year TAR for me is okay... There are other versions to fill my heart. :'( And they can pool the budget to make seasons better! :jam:That's actually a great idea.
Also I'm thinking CBS could rotate between the 3 big Reality-Comp shows every year like this:
September to December - Survivor
January to March - The Amazing Race
March to June - Survivor
June to September - Big Brother
Maybe they could market this like a reality-competition time slot, though I don't know if they've tried this before...
MAYBE they could even make the finales of each one lead in to the premieres of the next one...
But honestly the thing that makes this very unlikely is CBS having to push Survivor from late Feb to Late March >:(

Survivor is usually sometimes premiere in February as over within 2 1/2 months hiatus from December every year since 2002.

They did stumble upon that schedule this year when they were able to pair the TAR31 finale with the BB premiere. And of course, they always pair the BB finale with the Fall Survivor premiere.
It'll be interesting to see what CBS does with Survivor. With the controversy (which I don't really know much about) and also declining ratings, could they cut Survivor to once a year also? Then TAR could be in the Spring, Survivor in the Fall and BB in the Summer.
WHAT IF season 32 premieres in January and airs until early February. AND THEN takes a few months off before pick back up in May with the finale in mid June?
It's just sad that Survivor already has a premiere date while a season of TAR has been shelved for over a year now :'( really shows who their favorites are...

Survivor already has a premiere date in due in large part to it being season 40 and being an all-winners season (granted, it would probably have a premiere date regardless)
When does CBS announce the spring schedule?
Interesting article that!
BVM has confirmed two more seasons will film! Hopefully he means more than two seasons will be filmed!
First, for The Amazing Race 32, “I would say in the next six months it’ll be airing,” Doganieri told me. “They haven’t given us a date. We’ve been hearing rumors, too!”
“We don’t know anything else,” van Munster said.
However, there is good news about the show’s future. “We’re filming another one—33,” Doganieri told me. So yes, TAR 33 is happening.
No dates yet? This is...annoying to say the least
No dates yet? This is...annoying to say the least
Seriously, it's ridiculous how the whole cast has to keep results a secret for over a year.
I'm just going to go off here. Every sentence is important.
Seeing the cast, Bertram, Elise and Phil having to possibly wait longer than 2 years to be able to talk about their castmates, their journeys, and receive their prizes is beyond maddening.
CBS has been notorious for forcing TAR outside of its home since the single-digit seasons and their flippant decision to place it on the Friday death slot in the mid-2010s strained the ties they had with the show. And all of it was because of the network's own wrongdoing. Then afterward, CBS' awful scheduling behavior of blindly batting it to every time on every day of the week (a rerun of TAR24's Guangzhou legs aired on Saturday once) did nothing but worsen their seemingly one-sided severed relationship.
Shame on those involved with officializing the yearly show schedules at CBS and not giving a credible 20+ Primetime Emmy-awarded program a proper timeslot.
In addition to the winning team indubitably being unsatisfied over this promised prize amount not being fulfilled, the other teams with a 1st place Travelocity package can't even redeem their earned holidays or trade them in for a cash value until even after this uncertainty is answered. It's already a new decade. How long do they have to keep these promotional packages in their pockets until they expire, or are they still frozen in time? I'm sure Travelocity also isn't having any of this by being kept waiting to distribute 32's prizes before 33's new set of goodies have to be signed off on.
We NEED an answer from Viacom/CBS at this point. They MUST get their crap together. There's no excuse for Survivor to run four full circles, probably five after their all-winners season, before the Race can run once and who knows if it's even going to be this year. I really want to tell them to take out one of the sitcoms that people do not like, move it to All Access, replace it with the Race, and make it TAR's permanent timeslot. I also feel really bad for the racers who are going to be part of TAR33 and likely are going to have to endure this corporate Hollywood mess too.
It's all so upsetting to think about. I know I may sound like I am weaponizing my feelings for the show to have a set time on the air, but there is a point where enough time has passed for concerns to be amplified.

I totally understand your counterpoints and that I should take a breather and calm down over CBS' decisions. At the end of the day, it's a television series we all entertain our thoughts over in our leisure and what their word goes. I'm still baffled why The Amazing Race remains one of the only shows with the most timeslot shifts instead of a "staple" (in one consistent airtime) show throughout the years. I acknowledge the Viacom and CBS merger that happened just months ago and existing executives have to meet new executives, but I'm wondering why 32 is still idle this late when other shows are smooth sailing regardless of these new ideas being pitched. The last season has already pushed the time between filming and airing to about a year. I put more questions and critical thinking to myself than an English textbook, and would be happy to know if the series is still in considerations or not. It's just how I think.QuoteSeeing the cast, Bertram, Elise and Phil having to possibly wait longer than 2 years to be able to talk about their castmates, their journeys, and receive their prizes is beyond maddening.
Bertram, Elise, and Phil have been doing this job for nearly twenty years. I'm confident they're not chuffed about having to wait to talk about a cast/race. It's literally their job to produce the show, and when this shows up, they will produce more. They aren't chomping at the bit, and to be worried about them is just displacing your own anxiety over not having 11 or 12 new episodes of the race. It will air. If it's longer, then so be it.
Being concerned about the cast is also a bit weird. They are fully in the know about their prizes being dispensed upon airing. They've signed contracts for that. The race is done and the winners know they are getting money. It's not like they're on the edge of their seats; they just need the same patience. I get people wanting more episodes, but turning this around and being concerned for people that-- if not for spoilers-- we haven't even seen is a bit bonkers.
CBS has had a huge internal shift and with that comes new people with new ideas. If they want to take a chance on Love Island (which is a major ratings hit overseas) then that makes a lot of sense. The ratings for the U.S. version were fine for a summer show if not consistent on top of which it's cheap to make. TAR is in the can; it will air when it airs. And production is confident they're making a 33rd.Quotetheir flippant decision to place it on the Friday death slot in the mid-2010s strained the ties they had with the show.
Sorry to ask, but 'huh?' If those were strained that badly, we wouldn't have had seasons beyond those. CBS puts the show where they need to. The show never died. In fact, it's moved from Fridays since.
Everything in this post is a diatribe against CBS over mistreatment of a property that the network has been handling for 19 years and continues to. You flip back and forth between worrying about players and crew (which means you want episodes) and crying out that CBS is a bad home for it (which means you'd rather CBS not air it?). I promise I'm not some sort of CBS shill or something, but this is literally just a TV show. Life goes on. TAR isn't going anywhere, but to have literal outrage for the network making the show demanding that they air it is insane. The show isn't ours-- it's theirs. They are not beholden to us. Frankly, if they decide not to air it at all, that's well within their means. Then what? It's all good because they'll have given their answer and spare the cast and crew the worry? They won't have to mishandle it anymore? Phew. Problem solved.
I know this is taking things to a bit of an extreme, but frankly, this overwhelming disdain, finger-pointing, and worry for the cast and crew over the inevitable airing of a reality TV show is equally extreme. There's so much more to worry about in life. Not to mention episodes of TARCAN, TARAU, and others continuing to be produced. Last year had more TAR than a typical year. And still it's not enough.
Love your passion. The lack of a start date def sucks.
But do keep in mind that there is a whole new team in charge at CBS. It has been a huge year of transition for them.
Iam hopefulBELIEVE that the new team is supportive of the TAR team. We did get approval for a new race to run. :)x
But agree, we NEEED a date for 32 asap. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
I loved us in the after Survivor spot... if we could get than again during All Stars it would be AMAZING!!

Also waiting in the wings is reality veteran The Amazing Race, which CBS brass may keep on the shelf as backup in case a writers strike freezes scripted series production for next season.

How long is post production on this show? It can't be that hard to edit bc there's no CGI. They might even have 33 ready to go by May if they really pushed it, let alone September. For all we know, 34 could be filmed by then too.
Maybe CBS would throw the contestants a bone and give them the money (probably with new NDAS) so they don't have to wait forever for it....
Is it possible that TAR32 will air after TAR33 has already been filmed, because CBS loves to have a season in the can? ???
Personally, I think we might air in Survivors timeslot after Winners of War wraps in about 15/16 weeks time. We then have TAR33 filmed and ready to go, as TheRabbi posted in their post! :)
As I pointed out on different media, a WGA strike this spring wouldnt affect anything airing anything before fall, and if a show has been renewed or given a series order scripts are already being written for filming. Whether filming would be delayed is hard to say, shows can start filming earlier so something is available in case of a strike. The one reason the contract expires in June this time is because the last strike left the networks trying to fill time from late fall into early summer. It was a long strike, and programming was a mess until the following season. This was why Big Brother had a winter season during that strike, and TAR was definitely needed with some extra episodes but not extra legs.
If a strike occurs its possible TAR 32 might air later than in early summer, TAR 33 might be needed in the fall and CBS would possible order a returning racer season of some kind (I.e. returning champions) as the on the shelf product since casting would likely be faster and sped up production. Well just have to monitor things. Once those strike start one never knows how long itll take to settle.

Love Island US will premiere on Thursday May 21st at 8/7c with a 2 hour premiere. Following that, it will air new episodes weeknights (Monday-Friday) at 8/7c. They will also air a Saturday recap show also at 8/7c
Possible time slot for TAR: Maybe Mondays at 9/8c? CBS' current drama All Rise only has 6 episodes left and they'll need something there
All of the upcoming time slots will be occupied as the spring premiere of Magnum P.I. will be on April 10. No wonder how TAR 32 still to be given a premiere date.Possibly silly question, but do you think CBS could get fined by World Race Productions for not fitting TAR into their schedules? 32 is past due and there's no signal of the heads of programming giving the season the "go" to air. It's just being shelved like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer/Frosty that gets played by them every holiday season.
The WGA will begin bargaining March 23 for a new film and TV contract with management's Alliance of Motion Pictures & Television Producers, Deadline has confirmed. The guild's current contract expires May 1.

Farmers.
Anyway, I wonder if TAR is "the spare one" to Survivor and Big Brother just like how Harry & Meghan is "the spare one" to Will & Kate?
If the restrictions due to the Coronavirus last into the summer, CBS may decide to hold TAR32 for a Fall slot as scripted shows may not be able to restart production in time to have episodes ready.
If the networks will still announce fall lineups in May, they wouldn't have a guarantee Survivor 41 would be able to begin production at the end of the May as they hope. CBS may decide to put TAR32 on Wednesdays at 8pm in the fall instead of taking the risk waiting on Survivor since they will need a definitive schedule to sell to advertisers over the summer.
At least Love Island is already put on the summer schedule. Hopefully TAR 32 will announce for a summer lineup.
wait but S31 is on april
I feel like, unfortunately, as long as the virus is still spreading, we won't be seeing TAR on the airwaves until the hunker-down orders have been lifted, and even then, a couple weeks after to allow everyone to resettle into their new normal. Predicting a specific month right now runs the risk of airing the show during a possibly critical time, and will leave CBS and the show with poor taste in people's mouths. I don't want season 32 to be remembered as the cycle that news coverage and everyday Americans ruin by bashing it under these strange circumstances. TAR received overexposure with media during the season 33 cancellation with praise for being considerate. Let's not trend just to top that and Claire's watermelon launch with this inconsiderate move. Not when officials have put a limit on air travel and to social distance. Heck, CBS is also airing these end title cards stating to use good hygiene and stay away from public gathering at the end of each primetime rerun. Making a move to put TAR32 on the air so soon will deter everything they have spoken of to heed the public and themselves. And we all know CBS always protects ViacomCBS. We don't know if things will start clearing up by Easter as the president projected. There's so much real stuff going on among everyone that I don't think scheduling a travel competition on broadcast TV will be in the network's best interest at this moment.
TAR is mainly air travel. We don't need people freaking out about this more than they yelled about the Hanoi visit back in season 22. :duno:
People here are generally more media-sensitive, and even more so now that everyone is at home scared because we just surged pass 80,000 confirmed cases. Promoting TAR during this time would bring bad publicity to CBS when Americans are still desperate for more information about air travel restrictions, testing sites, availability of hospital care, looking for a new job (over 3.3 million people filed for unemployment this week), social work, anything that helps alleviate people's stressors while resources are insufficient. TAR, as much as I would like the show to be aired as soon as possible, isn't in the best interest to flaunt on primetime to compete against news coverage of the virus simply because it's doing the exact opposite of the government's disease prevention etiquette.I feel like, unfortunately, as long as the virus is still spreading, we won't be seeing TAR on the airwaves until the hunker-down orders have been lifted, and even then, a couple weeks after to allow everyone to resettle into their new normal. Would people in the US really kick up a fuss? I mean I understand but surely people would get it was filmed ages ago and its just a competition show not trying to mock or even show light to the virus.
Although in England were quite blasé about these sorts of things :duno:
Actually I think whatever works for CBS will work for us. But having watch parties and all is a big part of the joy of this especially for the racers. So part of me says wait. That would be an awesome TV film that I could get behind! We've had Phil's Diary before for seasons 13 and 18. Imagine "The Amazing Race: The Only Show to Visit 91 Countries" with various past teams, Bertram and Elise, Phil, the sound engineer, etc. all reliving their experiences.
But what I would love instead is a rerun of some of our first shows......WITH production commentary. That would be blockbuster and easily fill up some of the holes in their schedule.
People in the US like to kick up fusses.I feel like, unfortunately, as long as the virus is still spreading, we won't be seeing TAR on the airwaves until the hunker-down orders have been lifted, and even then, a couple weeks after to allow everyone to resettle into their new normal.

Fortunately, it (CBS) does have a full season of globe-trotting unscripted series The Amazing Race ready to go.
So...would you hang onto it for Fall? Or air during a time of chaos...when you don't know how many people would be watching?I feel like they'll definitely air after the "peak" has been reached in at least 46/50 states with at least all the top 25 major populated states being cleared for vaccines to the virus - which means it's going to take at least until the vaccine is distributed worldwide. Not soon enough and not soon at all. This way production can likely continue with a season 33 redux if given the greenlight by CBS following the aftermath rather than just having 32 as a one-off season.
Its a classic damned if you do...OR...damned if you don't.
I CAN think of ways you can film Survivor safely. But NO ways that TAR could film safely now or in the next several months.

I know you want to get the fans hyped, but I'll believe it when I see it, Philly-boy. He's only the host, not the network. He’s more than a host, he’s one of the co-executive producers of TAR. He’s one of the decision makers
There is no premiere date listed but I notice that the Amazing Race site on CBS Press has been updated for the first time in a year and acknowledges a 32nd season. It was last updated in April 2019 for the Season 31 premiere date.

The new part is:
The 32nd season will premiere during the 2019/2020 television season on the CBS Television Network.
I wonder if Leg 1 will be a 2 hour show of the premiere will include leg 2 aswell.I feel like it's going to be another TAR26-like premiere where they showed one leg, and not a very thrilling one, for 2 hours. :groan:
Highly likely updater for the season here now that we're working from home!
So... zero chance of an Emmy, correct?

Because of the coronavirus, the Emmys extended their hanging episodes deadline to June 30. So they'll have at least 6 episodes eligible (two-hour premiere counted as one episode).So... zero chance of an Emmy, correct?

Apparently, from Deadline (https://deadline.com/2019/12/2020-emmy-rules-changes-television-academy-unveils-adjustments-to-hanging-episodes-kids-voting-1202811370/):Because of the coronavirus, the Emmys extended their hanging episodes deadline to June 30. No idea how, but I am told that ALL episodes can be considered. FWIW.
Hanging episodes, those episodes currently outside the current year's eligibility, will now be eligible if they are broadcast or posted on a member-accessible platform, including the network's streaming platform or the Television Academy's own platform in their final form by May 31, 2020.
The Television Academy is adjusting the eligibility and voting deadlines for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards calendar in response to concerns made by TV communication executives and awards strategists in the current coronavirus climate. ... Also being extended is the eligibility date for hanging episodes for regular series and limited series, as the TV Academy takes into account production and programming delays. Now, all hanging episodes must broadcast or post on an accessible platform by June 30, instead of May 31. Both regular and limited series must still premiere by the end of this year’s eligibility date, which remains May 31. A minimum of six episodes continues to be required for a show to be qualified in the series category. A limited series in its entirety must air or post on a platform before June 30, and if it doesn’t, the limited series will qualify in the 2020-2021 Emmy year.
So... zero chance of an Emmy, correct?
Not so sure about that.... ;)
This is fantastic news. I'm guessing the originally planned 2 hour premiere is a no go, but what the hell! At least we have some sort of idea now.
No, the episodes were not eligible for any awards this year and the show was not on the ballots.
Plaid on, I watch using the CBS app on an IPad. You still get the commercials.
The second way I can watch it is with the AT&T TV app on my IPad, and set it to record. Once it’s recorded, Ican watch that way. The fast forward functionality works, btw. I don’t use my mobile browsers or my browsers on my notebooks to watch.

The week TAR moves to 8pm ET, Big Brother will have it’s two hour finale (October 28). Which off the top means their season is about 80 days, up to 19 days shorter than usual.
There was rumor that the finale would be earlier than the 28th but yeah, you are right. Season finale of BB is on the 28th.
I still can see TAR having a couple of 2 hour episodes in November or December because I really don't see them airing it over the holiday period. They can air all the old Christmas specials during that time when people aren't watching as much TV. Oct 14th to Dec 23 is only 11 weeks.
