Title: TAR Canada 7: News/Media/Speculation (possible spoilers)
Post by: georgiapeach on November 03, 2018, 01:28:00 PM
So.

TARCanada usually posts a next season casting announcement in early October.

Right now...zilch.

TARCanada usually closes Applications in Mid November.

Right now...zilch.

Anyone thinking this may be  an All Stars/Returning Racers season??   :spy:

Possibly. They do have enough compelling teams for a second chance season, not sure about an all-stars.

We'd been hearing for years that CTV only ordered 6, so it's totally up in the air now. But with the improved ratings over Season 5, there's always a possibility.

There is good 'speculation' that TAR Canada 7 is an 'All-Star' season...

Heck, just look at the TAR Canada Wishlist thread!  :funny:

Agreed i think it might be an all stars season i think we have like more than enough teams for second chance so i would be happy if TAR CAN does All stars cause the competion would be crazy and amazing and would draw viewers from around the globe

I'm just wondering if they would announce a season 7 this early if they didn't have to do the usual casting process...
Like maybe they could announce in March that TARC returns next summer with an All-Star edition. Or would they need to announce it in advance? (Like December/January?)

They can announce it as late as May given the American edition's treatment of 11, 18, 24, and now 31.

About renewal?

About  Cast?

strange.

Yes, I feel he means renewal... but I can't believe CTV wouldn't want to renew it... Its the most watched show of the summer, won lots of prize... I know it costs a lot of money but still...

That was me that tweeted that.  The same day, a whole bunch of the producers liked my tweet.  It seems like they're all together, ready to go, and waiting for something from the network to let them proceed.  They sound just as anxious as we are.

Could they be waiting for an official renewal annoucement from CTV? ???

That's what it sounds like for me.  Chances are good that, since the ratings are so good, the production company is negotiating for a much sweeter deal from the network.

I hope so!!

Or in a big twist, they are all faking it, and since it's an All-Star season they don't need to announce it early as they don't have to do casting!
But I hope it's a regular season, that said it's getting quite late now. They usually have the first rounds of interviews in december...

Casting for season 7 is open.

https://www.ctv.ca/The-Amazing-Race-Canada/Articles/Latest/Season-7-Announcement-Casting?cid=ctv2018_112218_community_twitter_TARCS7Casting

Quote
Following a heroic sixth season finale this past September, host Jon Montgomery announced today that the adventure continues as CTV has renewed The Amazing Race Canada for a seventh season to air next summer. The announcement sets the stage to welcome an all-new cast of racers to the starting line, as they push themselves out of their comfort zones in a non-stop, action-packed race. The most-watched Canadian series of the year, The Amazing Race Canada is currently available for customized and wholly integrated brand partnership opportunities.

“The Amazing Race Canada is the tent-pole series that anchors summers on CTV,” said Mike Cosentino, President, Content and Programming, Bell Media. “We are thrilled to welcome back this ratings powerhouse and award-winning production for a seventh season as casting begins and sponsorship opportunities open.”

The Amazing Race Canada is looking for new teams with a story to share about what has given them the confidence to take on an amazing adventure. Fans and aspiring racers with stories of strength, determination, and perseverance are invited to pair up with someone they know – a friend, sibling, parent, partner, or anyone else they share a relationship with – and submit an audition for the opportunity to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition.

The submission deadline is January 2 at 11:59 p.m. ET. For all casting details and updates, including instructions on how to submit an audition video, viewers can visit CTV.ca/TheAmazingRaceCanada, the CTV Facebook page, and follow @AmazingRaceCDA.

According to my friend and superfan @kurt_repchull on Twitter, there's a new question on the application this year of "Has there been an experience that has given you a new lease on life or a second chance at life?"

Sounds like another possible theme.

Why do you think decoy? They focus on the brand new racers thing in the description.... If it was decoy they just could have said nothing, no?

If there's "second chance teams"and this is a hybrid season, by second chance, we could get:

Strong teams eliminated early:
1. Darren/Kristen
2. Cormac/Nicole
3. Hamilton/Michaelia
4. Todd/Anna

Dominating teams that fell short:
1. Jet/Dave
2. Jody/Cory
3. Meghan/Natalie
4. Kenneth/Ryan

I don't follow TAR forums as well as I do Big Brother, so I can't speak for teams that fans want back.
5. Taylor/Courtney

Seeing as the overseas legs have been split between Asia and Latin America for all but one season, it'll probably be something like Japan and Peru this time around.

If BBCAN casts' attitudes toward old-school reality contestants are anything to go by, then the presence of certain racers can only increase viewership.

Jillian/Emmett wouldn't really fit a "second chance" theme because TAR4 was their second chance at Reality and if they came back, it'd be their third chance, basically.

There was a live facebook event with 2 producers of the show this morning.
No new information, they confirmed the theme this year was second chance on life.

One also let slip they could only choose 10 teams, confirming what we already guessed about having the 10 teams 11 legs formula

Weight loss heroes, Drug addicts, couple who fell in love with each other after their divorcees, transgender people, parent and adopted child, immigrants of course...

I wish they didn't limit themselves with stupid theme and casted just 10 best teams they could find.

This will be another TARCAN5/TARCAN6 with NO DRAMA, even ****tier tasks and 1 international leg.

TARC6 was already a little too "nice" and these were teams of "heroes." Though it wasn't as bad as the way Jon exaggeratedly described as being the nicest, most friendly cast ever or something like that.

I can only imagine how the show will go out of their way not to paint any of these "survivors" in a bad light. Like, I can see them guilting you into rooting for a cancer survivor or someone who got shot or something. Though TARUS showed that even a cancer survivor can still be completely unlikeable of course. Nothing to do with their health, just horrible personalities. I wonder if TARC will dare cast a team like that.

I'm just afraid that we will get 10 teams with sob stories, and that all the focus is on the team's personal stories/past drama and we loose the aspect of the race/game

The team i am most looking forward is probably an immigrants i would love an north korean team, but with the cancer teams or drug addicts we saw how it all turned out horribly in TAR aND their personalities were terrible, aka Dave & The drug models

Interestingly, TARCAN5 broke the alternating May-April pattern of the first four seasons by filming ahead of schedule, so this upcoming one might just return to the precedent set by 1 and 3.

J/d stands the best chance of making it far again.

I wonder if we are rounding out a newbie or 2nd chance allstar cast?

I would think the filming date will start in last Saturday of April because Easter is April 21. TAR Canada 2 also started in a late Saturday of April, 2014 that the Easter was on April 20.

Just a thought I had today. This would be the golden year to cast that elusive Saskatchewan team we've never gotten yet.

Sask was one of the biggest things at the center of the Canadian/international media spotlight last year for the bus crash of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team (1 year as of April 6). So I'd guess that if they don't mention this at some point on the race, with the Second Chances theme - 16 dead. 13 injured, several permanently - there's a chance they might cast somebody connected to it.

TARCAN has yet to cast the blonde mean-girl archetype e.g. 17's Volleyballers, 25's Realtors, etc., so it'd be hella neat to see Regina's or Saskatoon's answer to BBCAN6 Olivia as a complementary contrast to Hero(in)es' Edition.

Not happening. They are not casting villains anymore... Only "inspirational" boring teams who bring no drama. TARCAN casting died after TARCAN4, not expecting change with this second chance in life theme this season.

If we get Jet & Dave or Frankie & Amy back (honestly I think Brent & Sean have little chance of winning the vote), you can bet that'll be one team that makes some good TV.

On the contrary, the latest two TARCAN seasons are mediocre at worst, the only outright bad one occurring on the third try.

There's still potential for antagonists no matter the naysaying.

The way I see it, there actually is potential for villains in a second chance-themed cast.

Think of it this way - if someone made some poor choices, then got a "second lease on life", that comes with the attitude that they're not going to waste it, not going to lose again. Thus, people can grow more competitive than they were before.

Canada Has Chosen: Jet And Dave Set To Race Again On Season 7 of CTV’s The Amazing Race Canada

And they’re off… again!

As revealed from the starting line of the upcoming seventh season of The Amazing Race Canada, Jet and Dave, best friends from Season 1, were selected as the Canada’s Choice team and are racing again. Jet and Dave joined host Jon Montgomery and nine other teams as part of a Facebook Live and Twitter livestream event sponsored by Chevrolet for the start of Season 7. The new season is set to air on CTV this summer.

In addition to Jet and Dave, Canadians had the opportunity to vote for Brent and Sean, Brothers from Season 3, and Frankie and Amy, a mother and daughter from Season 4. Voting was open on CTV.ca and on Twitter with @AmazingRaceCDA from March 21 until April 1, with Jet and Dave receiving the highest number of votes from people across the country.

Chevrolet has been part of the series since the beginning and returns as a partner of The Amazing Race Canada for the seventh consecutive season. As part of their extensive partnership, the winning team will receive two all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazers as part of the grand prize which also includes a once in a lifetime trip for two around the world, a $250,000 cash prize, and The Amazing Race Canada. Teams will also continue to drive Chevrolet vehicles throughout Season 7, a vital component to help keep them racing. Chevrolet also returns as the title sponsor for Facebook Live events hosted by Jon Montgomery taking place throughout production.

Previous seasons of The Amazing Race Canada are available on the all-new Crave.

During the Starting Line interview with Jet & Dave, it was funny when they answered Winnipeg/Manitoba as the place in Canada they most want to visit, saying they don't think it's ever been visited before. Though it's been visited twice, if I remember correctly? hehe

Yep, 2 and 6. I'm pretty sure they're being sarcastic. :funny: I remember they joked about going Winnipeg for one of their prizes (or maybe that's another team)

Being in the starting line, no team stood out of being competitive or having big personalities aside from Jet and Dave so I'm not keeping my hopes up wrt entertainment.  J/D will probably end up in top 3 or even win the whole race unless they get screwed again. I have to watch season 1 again because I forgot on how they got eliminated. I just remembered they did poorly on the second leg in Vancouver. haha

It would have been the only real opportunity they had to go on-site at the ROM.
Weren't Dave & Irina spotted along the Queensway? This might explain it if they got lost leaving the ROM & going to Pearson, or they were given bad advice.

The first group of teams were announced (via press release and social media) during Your Morning yesterday. The second group is supposed to be announced during The Marilyn Denis Show (10-11 AM)...it will probably be the last segment. It appears they are actually holding off on these announcements until air time, unlike previous seasons when they would announce early, prior to these shows airing.

The final group will be announced during The Social (1 to 2 PM)...I may be late posting by no more than an hour.

Article from Kitchener-Waterloo paper:

https://www.kitchenertoday.com/local-news/waterloo-region-featured-in-next-episode-of-the-amazing-race-canada-1627242

"The latest leg of the Amazing Race Canada crosses through Waterloo Region next week.

Minto Schneider, Chief Executive Officer, Waterloo Regional Tourism says the got the call back in late January of this year.

"Waterloo Region is primed for production crews who are looking to film in interesting areas outside of Toronto. We were excited about the opportunity to work with the Amazing Race Canada team to showcase what Waterloo has to offer and to market Waterloo as a great destination to explore," Schneider says in a release.

According to Justin McFadden, Economic Development Director, City of Waterloo over 50 local residents were hired for the production.

The episode is set to premiere next week and features some familiar locales around the University of Waterloo campus and Waterloo park.

Eagle-eyed viewers may have also caught a glimpse of the teaser featuring shots of Culinary Studio in Belmont Village and the Museum in Downtown Kitchener.

"It's interesting because, what you might see on the show next week are not necessarily what people would consider the top tourism destinations for Waterloo Region. So one of the things that I think is exciting about having over two million viewers watching next week is that they're probably going to see things that they haven't seen in Waterloo Region before."

The Amazing Race Canada airs on Tuesday, August 13 at 9 p.m. on CTV."

Kitchener will be hosting viewing parties starting at 8 p.m. at the Country Hills Community Centre as well as Carl Zehr Square at City Hall, where there will be live music and food trucks.

Meanwhile, Waterloo has booked the Princess Cinema and will hold their viewing party at 9 p.m."

Notes: (from episode 6 "coming up next" preview)
- The Oktoberfest looks like the Concordia Club, Halle: Main Hall, 429 Ottawa St South, Kitchener
- The Faceoff Cookoff at The Culinary Studio, 740 Belmont Ave West, Kitchener
- stuff done at TheMuseum, 10 King St SW, Kitchener, the Ball place?

9 secrets we learned from going behind the scenes on ‘Amazing Race Canada’

A lot of this is stuff any TAR superfan already knows, but still a very interesting article.

A blog post by Irina - it's a promo for skincare but she does explain about why her & Dave are on Amazing Race.

A fire is being reported at Southgate Centre in Edmonton - where the racers had to find the Source and get a step counter.

They did a pre-finale thingie on Facebook Live with the Final 3.

It reminds me of how this season lacked those mid-season special with the teams we had during some of the previous seasons, and also those post-finale shows with the teams.

YAHOOOO!!!

They announced really early this year :D
The last two seasons it took some time (Season 6 was like a month after, and season 7 was like.... 2-3 months?)

I hope we will get international legs next year, but I doubt it...

2 really easy legs to do would be USA (a town close to the boarder like Detroit or Burlington) and Saint Pierre and Miquelon. If they do a Windsor leg, they could make it a KOR and do a Detroit leg. And have a Newfoundland leg, followed by a SPaM leg.

The ratings success of this season brought an early renewal.

So they need to cast good personalities to improve ratings. I do not think it was the route that caused the jump.

"With final data of the complete season to be reported in the coming weeks, season-to-date THE AMAZING RACE CANADA drew larger audiences in Season 7 than the previous year among total viewers and in all key demos, seeing a double-digit growth with A18-34 (+38%) and A18-49 (+12%). The series was the most-watched summer program for an incredible seventh year in-a-row among the key A25-54 demographic."

If only TARUS could do this ...
