Just a heads up, Chicago is undergoing a deep freeze/wind chill advisory tonight and experience has proven that a power outage for me can happen any time tonight. If the electricity fails, can someone watching fill my spot? I would thank you so much and appreciate if someone could be part of my show update team.
:HNY: AND MAY THE PREMIERE BE IN EVERYONE'S INTEREST!

I will try Rachel, however I'll be watching on the streams and they tead to cut out. But, will try to update as much as possible! :cmas16
And we are back!All-female team getting 1st on Leg 1. Corrected.
Cody & Jessica don't know where to go. Kristi & Jen are quickly closing the gap.
And Kristi & Jen get 1st! One of the rare moments an all-female team get 1st place! Historic!
They win a trip to Santorini, Greece!
Maybe we’ll get more insights when/if the extras are placed online by CBS, and we’ll get a better feel for what happened with various teams this episode. For the Bethesda Fountain clip, that was a pre-existing video Trevor & Chris' orchestral band filmed, not TAR footage. It's here.
As to Cody and Jessica, during his B.B. season he was a beast in competitions, therefore I’m not surprised that he jumped ahead of earlier arriving teams at the roadblock. Clearly they navigated Icelandic highways well, but on foot, they didn’t ask soon enough to save their chance to arrive first. We’ll see if that was a fluke or not in later episodes, I’m sure.
I’m surprised no one mentioned the brief appearance of the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, the very first start line, used as a backdrop for one of the team introductions at the beginning....the violinists. At last, the final filmed somethingo there, which they managed to miss in earlier visits to NYC.
Did I miss something? Why were they all carrying matching shopping bags to the mat?
Interesting... unaired task for sure if it's everyone. I did notice Cody carrying a white tote and seeing some sort of logo on it when him and Jessica were lost at a park on their way to the Pit Stop. If anyone has a screenshot of it, maybe we could decode what may have been left out.Did I miss something? Why were they all carrying matching shopping bags to the mat?
I wondered the same thing. I remember seeing those in the spoiler pics too...
I get the feeling that the swapping partners might be for just a night as it looks to be in Africa so for a camp out as the pitstop?Or hopefully for just one task as opposed to an entire leg.
Like most initial episodes from a season, it really needed an extra 15-20 minutes of actual episode time. When was the last time we had that happen. 5-6 years ago?
The lack of information about teams being split in two flights, would have helped to explain better the initial spread of the teams. It reminds me of how sometimes we uncover so much more info during lives, that just get edited out.
New here, but anyway, Jessica and Cody were live on the TV Party App during the east coast airing. Jessica said that the bags were given to them by production with gloves, hats, etc.
I loved the little ICE carved letters.
From the producers' pov that would be wasting money on unnecessary propsI loved the little ICE carved letters.
They are cute but still - maybe give them the whole alphabet with 3 copies of each letter to choose from - not just the letters that were on the course - then if they needed to go back they would still need to remember the letters, not just their positioning.

Did I miss something? Why were they all carrying matching shopping bags to the mat?We know from the promos that teams made a stop at 66 North (https://www.66north.com/). What's interesting is that a few of the teams were already wearing the gear in the field, so there must have been an unaired bit of shopping before they set out.

I've seen so many comments on why did the shopping bags randomly appear after the strongman task. Here's what I think. when teams parked their cars before walking to the square, the clue must have told them to abandon their car & carry all their possessions including the bag for the remainder of the leg. When Jessica & Cody arrived at the square, they are clearly carrying the bag. It didn't randomly appear, so I don't think there was a task cut.
And it could be a reference to lady shopping in a field that Lori & Bolo met while asking for directions in TAR 6.

Ugh, another season of already semi-famous people I couldn't care less about? At least there were some normal teams this time

I have some very good news. TAR absolutely "killed it" in the ratings. It was the highest rated show for its time slot and the show had it's highest rated premiere since 2013!!!You do realize, folks, that this is TAR's original timeslot back on September 5. 2001. The gods have spoken.....this is where it belongs.
I didn't watch the episode live, and I caught up later, with my usual rewinding of random moments.
Maybe that's why I had a bit of a different experience, but I don't really get all the criticism for the editing?
The only thing I completely agree on is that Goat Yoga didn't need THAT much airtime, even though I found their inner drama entertaining. We could've had a minute or two to focus on the Ring Girls being unable to find parking for over an hour.
The thing is, premiere episodes are always clusterfs in terms of editing, because a good deal of time is spent at the starting line and introducing teams. So maybe that's why I don't expect everyone to have a fair share of airtime in the first episode, because that's just impossible given just 42 minutes of show.
The roadblock is one of my favourite tasks in a long time! Let alone, to have it on leg 1, when most first legs tend to be pretty straightforward, was amazing. :cmas27
I loved how a few teams couldn't figure out that the Os were different. And seeing how long it took them to realize, it must really have been hard to see the letters in ice clearly. I wonder if ice was chosen on purpose then? :snicker:
I don't mind that the other 2 ARIs were simple tasks, as self-driving was involved this leg, and upped the difficulty for the teams tremendously. We seriously had so many placement shifts, I was impressed while watching! Plus, the first ARI was a heights task, some of which are always needed on the race, and the other one required local interaction, which was a nice touch as well.
In terms of the teams... nobody seems unlikeable? It's pretty strange, because I always find someone to root against, even if those feelings change later on, but this season everyone seems like really nice, entertaining people. Maybe the comp eaters are a bit bizarre. :cmaslol
I'm really sad that the Ring Girls were eliminated, but I would honestly say the same thing if they won that tight footrace against Goat Yoga. The moms seem like a typical out-of-their-element underdog team, which everyone always roots for, but it seemed that Dessie & Kayla would've been strong racers had they just not made this 1 mistake on the first leg. And that makes me sad to see them go.
I like them as a team, and their soundbites are great, but I really wish NBA was eliminated this leg. They just had a bad, bad leg and had that penalty sunk them to last, I imagine we would all be saying what a disastrous, pathetic way to go out that was (ala Kelly & Shevonne, just to a smaller extent :cmaslol). Anyway, maybe they'll continue to be a fun trainwreck to watch!
I stand corrected. It seems the teams had their bags waiting for them when they arrived at the gorge. (I had to watch the ep over again; it bugs me that the web version offers a better resolution than my tv 😠)
Also, I found a link that was supposed to be a 30 minute youtube video that Cody and Jess put up about their thoughts and extra information about episode 1. It appears to have been taken down. I tried to find their Youtube account but got lost in all the BB fan Youtube accounts. If any of you know a link to Cody and Jessica's Youtube account, you may find another version of this video. Here's the non-working link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcCzfVCEO00 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcCzfVCEO00)

It's a very different airdate as well, and one that some of us have been asking for eversince the move to Fridays.
If we're not getting 2 seasons a year anymore, I wouldn't be mad at all if TAR aired exactly like this each year!
... only, there could be a couple fewer double episodes. :cmaslol

Maybe Jessica and Cody helped ratings, I hope they last in this race, plus I liked them on BB (Jessica more, but Cody was ok too). :)
First ep I thought the spelling challenge was quite good and some navigation problems too.
I actually saw the video before it was taken down. They made several statements that incinuated that they lasted quite awhile in the race, like "later in the race" or "throughout the race". I'm guessing they had to take it down for that reason. Also, I found a link that was supposed to be a 30 minute youtube video that Cody and Jess put up about their thoughts and extra information about episode 1. Their YouTube Channel is called "Living Jody" and you are right... the video is no longer on it. The only video about TAR is the one where they showed what they packed in their 1 bag Cody carried.
I'll be interested to see what happens when the Olympics get underway.
Which will viewers choose to watch LIVE? ???
