Zed and Shabbir are a fiercely competitive father/son duo that love to bicker and tease each other. They have a deep respect and love for each other, but are both stubborn, which can create conflict between them. However, what bonds them together is their drive and motivation to succeed in life.

Shabbir had a challenging upbringing, living in Congo, Tanzania, Zambia, and Ghana, while his mom worked for the UN. Eventually his parents immigrated to Canada, a country that he loves with all his heart. In 2009, Shabbir was diagnosed with stage 3 Colon cancer and given a 50/50 chance to live. By focusing on the positive, and making healthy choices and changes to his lifestyle, Shabbir overcame cancer and has since been in remission. While it was a hard experience for their family, it has brought them all closer together. Shabbir, thankful to be alive and with a new lease of life, looks forward to tackling THE AMAZING RACE CANADA with his son.

Zed is a very driven individual with a successful career in medical device sales. Shabbir says that when Zed sets his mind on something, he goes for it 100%. Zed’s approach is tackling problems head-on while Shabbir prefers to take the time to asses situations. Together they think they are the perfect combination of wisdom and strength and are ready to give THE AMAZING RACE CANADA their best shot.

Zed Dhalla, 27, and Shabbir Dhalla, 57, a father and son team from Vancouver. Zed's the big "Race" fan, but Shabbir wanted to compete "because I've only got a few more years left on these legs." Dad is also a stage 3 cancer survivor. "It was very much a blessing in disguise," says Shabbir. "I look at life completely differently now."

ZED & SHABBIR DHALLA

Dad Shabbir is 57 and an ebullient five-year cancer survivor His son Zed is 27 and took it upon himself to be his father’s personal trainer in advance of the show.

“I also simplified life, downsized the house, let go a lot of work and am enjoying life a lot more,” Shabbir says. “Once I finished my chemo and we went to Cancun on a celebration trip, I told (Zed and his sister), ‘I’ve got a new goal and I mean every word of it. It’s to spend your inheritance before I die. I’m spending what I worked hard for.’”

“Now I need the prize money more than anything,” jokes Zed.

“I don’t think he’s de-prioritized my sister and me,” Zed adds. “If he’s become more selfish, he deserves to be.”

As for their team strength, Zed says, “He needs the input from someone from the younger generation. And things like reading maps, my dad has experience with them growing up.”

I think this is the team I will be cheering for. A mix between wise and fun, and they might sneak into the final leg.
