Title: TAR China 3 - SHOW Discussion and WIKI Assistance (No SPOILERS)
Post by: G.B. on July 08, 2016, 10:17:37 PM
Welcome to the third season. It looks like quality and production values are up this time!

The Chinese version is the most difficult to study for Wiki pages, so I really need help from others for this. Thanks in advance!

Right now, I just need someone to type out this Roadblock prompt.

Thanks! I am also looking for the ages and hometowns of the contestants, as well as Heinz's full name.

okay so can someone clarify why only two teams have "Partners" in the team relationship? are they actually partners in the romantic sense or are they business partners or are "partners" just arbitrarily assigned?

but so far I'm enjoying this, and Jin Xing & Heinz are my favorites <3

Finally got to watch the whole episode and it was great!  Felt so different from the first two seasons I think.  The tasks helped, but I think it was edited much better, more exciting with no slow moments.  Usually, the long episodes for TAR China and Israel feel like a chore to watch.  (That's why I kinda prefer TARPH's long Legs broken up into daily bites almost.)  But this premiere was really great.  I enjoyed it much more than TAR Canada's premiere, that's for sure.

The product placement is hilarious, but I guess that extra money really went into the Leg itself.  Really great tasks and locations.  But teams running to the Mat with their McDonalds was really hilarious, but not a problem at all for me.  Still enjoyed the episode.

Here is a recap of ep 1, so helpful!

Amazing Race China Season 3 (Olympics Edition): Athens, Greece

July 9, 2016 polisi25 Reality TvAmazing Race, amazing Race China Season 3

As a person who don’t care about watching the Olympics, I apologize, but at least I’m now doing a recap of the new season of the Amazing Race China Season 3: Olympics Edition, with hopefully great tasks with great difficulty and great locations (which ends in Brazil, the place where the Olympics will be held this year) for celebrities (which unfortunately, not all of the teams consist of an athlete) to compete with great enthusiasm (which won’t be a hurdle to jump after how weak last season was). So, with the grand opening that introduced our host Allan Wu again in this season starting line, the Great Wall of China in China, the place where the Olympics is hosted in Summer 2008, let’s reveal the cast:

Team Broadcasters: Zhang Meixi & Zang Yafei, reporters for Greater China Live in Shenzhen, one of the best intro scene for an Amazing Race Team, I was surprised for a sudden when that news broadcast played in the first time.

Team Hurdle: Liu Xiang & Ji Longxiang: Olympic Gold medallist hurdler & Brother/Cousin who plays discus throw regionally.

Team SNH48: Huang Tingting & Sun Rui: Idols of SNH48, a Chinese version of AKB48 (yeah, there something on my mind wanted to say something about that), which is a good call since people outside of that sphere would get to know you more.

Team Siblings: Vanness Wu & Xiao Fengfeng: Taiwanese Superstar & his sister.

Team Dancer: Jin Xing & Heinz: Transgender contemporary dance founder and her German husband

Team Actors: Zhang Zhehan & Zhang Sifan: Actors

Team Divers: Guo Jingjing & Huo Qigang: Gold Medalist Diver & her husband

Team Returnees: Liu Chang & Jin Dachuan, models who still don’t have their own Wikipedia page, and why the show couldn’t get Li Xiaopeng & Li Anqi instead, they are the athlete team.

That is a really generic intro, but let’s get started.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wblKDL-X7dc

The Journey Climbs For The Flags (Physical to Endurance)

A great opening challenge that has their own kind of complexity with how different are the heights for the steps, & the addition of fireworks is aesthetically nice as well. And the fact that it tires people immediately says a lot of promise.

Roadblock: Flips In The Air (Skill)

Fun challenge that showcase one of the performance acts for Beijing 2008 in that monumental place (Beijing National Station), and it shows how difficult for people who couldn’t finish it in the first try, or people that are not divers.

After a meal and 600 euros provided by Ronald McDonald of all people…teams traveled to Athens, Greece, the place where the Olympics started, hosted in 1896 & 2004, where Liu Xiang & Guo Jingjing earned gold for their fields.

By the way, I found Jin Xing treatment of Heinz is crazy given how they haven’t even left China yet.

(What’s the problem with Amazing Race for rarely going there anyway, China went there twice, while you need to take 20 season to finally have a trip there?)

Now at Athens, with teams being separated by 3 minutes (should be 5, too easy for team to catch), they are now off to their next task.

Detour: Ostomachion (Mental + Physical) or Spartan Warrior (Skill)

Both of the tasks are quite nice, given that Spartan Warrior needs people to do 2 sporting tasks each to grant some additional difficulty and the Ostomachion (the Puzzle of Archimedes) was quite hard with the element of needing to carry your bags together to obtain a hint.

Still, it is quite unbalanced in favour for the people that choose Ostomachion, given that you don’t need to queue for your turn in doing javelins or doing a discus throw and mental puzzle is always easy for teams to form an alliance if team know how to use the stairs gimmick (like Team SNH48 found out and decided to tire themselves).

Also, that javelin thrower who actually missed the shot while demonstrating should told us that javelin throwing is just too difficult for a beginner.

Ridiculous Moments:
1.Vanness freaking out about the puzzle and convince Fengfeng to switch tasks, for a more difficult task
2.Zhehan is freaking out about Sifan always stepping outside the line to the point of thinking that as a national offense.
3.The team that placed last in China, Team Dancer (not helping matters when Heinz had a potty break & Jun Xing being really high maintenance at this stage of the race) actually manages to finish 1st at the Detour (yeah, this leg right now have an insane level of placement shifting).
4.A child manages to lure Team Returnees to have a picture with them.

And Team SNH48 & Team Returnees talked themselves to have a short term alliance.

Evzones March (Skills)

The only task that showcase the Greek culture, though the task is quite difficult as well.

I have to say it again, Xin Jing is a real bitch to her husband, and this is makes me feel that it wouldn’t be surprisingly when they got divorced if they act this way in the race.

Olympic Trivia (Mental)

While it is nice to relieve those memories of who got gold for Summer Athens 2008 and kept up with the Olympics theme, it’s a bull**** challenge given that there are actual athletes who actually competed there (and actually got their pictures featured), I hope that the show don’t repeat that challenge since it’s really unfair for people who wanted to join the race to travel everywhere & wasn’t really focused on Olympics, and please get more judges for that challenge to give the slower teams a fighting chance in a footrace.

If it the race was all athletes, I would probably praise this given how insane the possible pairings that the board consist, but alas it just turns to luck and alliance puzzle sharing.

Unique pit stop greeter to hammer the Olympic theme: Gold Medallist 100m Breaststroke Swimmer Luo Xuejuan

1st place: Team Returnees, with a nostalgia trip with 2 Express Passes.

Non-eliminated: Team Broadcasters, in a really anticlimactic way.

And so, the great start of this season is finally here to beast out ratings and entertainment. Next Stop: Munich, Germany. Oktoberfest anyone?

So weird reading Wu Jianhao & Yao Fengfeng romanized (at least in the Wiki), when Vanness Wu is probably his registered name as he was born in the US from LA. His sister (Melody Yao - model) however, is actually from Taiwan, where they do let you add a Western name to your ID once you're of age. They do remind me of Tammy and Victor, as Victor was several years older than Tammy.

They don't share a surname, as Melody is their mom's daughter from another marriage. The funny thing around the time Melody started to have a public career and paparazzi would snap pictures of them dining together, started a bunch of weird romance rumors in gossip media, until it was made clear that they were siblings.

Midway through leg 2.
- people complaining about rehash/repeat tasks in US or Canada both detour options were from previous TAR US seasons. The same for RB2.
- Can't remember from previous seasons, but clearly clues also written in English also this time around.
- I assume Return Ticket = The Save mixed with Salvage Pass. Must be used up to leg 4

If they're in Germany. Let me guess, is one of the rehash tasks tasting and identifying types of sausage? Both US and Canada have done that one.

Sausages were involved in Speed Bump, which might also be a rehash, but can't recall clearly.
One of detours were rehash of Stein from 26 and RB2 was rehash of Schliersee RB from same leg.
The other detour was a dancing challenge just can't remember the US season it was on right now. UPDATE. It's Slap it detour from TAR9.

Again, it's repetitive to us, but to Chinese audiences this is all new. Rehashing tasks like this is not a bad thing.

Okay, so first order of business is the Chinese text I need transcribed, please and thank you:

Next, can anyone help me identify the place that featured the second Roadblock? According to the Chinese Wikipedia, it's the 'Schaub Forest Chalet' (Translation dubious). It would be located somewhere in the vicinity of Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Fussen.

The 'Return Ticket', according to the Chinese Wikipedia, is another 'Save Card' like from Season 1. But, it's given out like an Express Pass that can be used any time. If this is incorrect in any way, please let me know?

Thanks everyone!

Another great Leg! All recycled or familiar tasks, but they all combined for some good competition.

The Speed Bump though was pretty harsh.  Making sausages AND eating them?  It seems the teams were pretty close together all Leg, so the anchors really didn't have a chance to catch up.
I also felt bad for the dogs too lol

Locations for the second half of Leg 2:
Detour Decision/Speedbump: Bräustüberl
Beer: Mohrenplatz
Dance: Werdenfelser Hof
Singing: Forsthaus Unternogg, Altenau

Zang Yafei works on "关键洞察力" on Shenzhen TV. She was born in Yanbian, but I'd assume she's based in Shenzhen now!

Well the pitstop clearly wasn't actually at Neuschwanstein like the show said, seeing as how it was way out in the distance, but it was a reused location. Can anyone remember when?

Down at that schloss's entrance just before these teams had to go up the hill is where Andre & Damon were eliminated way back in TAR3!

Mapped out the route and it's the strangest around-the-world route I've ever seen on a TAR.

With the repeated back-and-forth between the two continents, Europe and Asia look like a cat's cradle

Considering the way the shoot this version, the "route" doesn't really matter does it?

Japan was an interesting leg 3, and with the racer swap for one of the teams, this was probably the start of the second block of the filming. Though this was one of those episodes that it didn't really need those 90 minutes, it could have benefited with a tighter editing and done it all in 60~70 minutes, even with the amount of tasks that it covered, including 3 Route Info Tasks, a RB and a Detour.

And I loved that RB.
And the detour design (considering how detailed they went on the making off segment), they probably came up with Sailor Moon option first, and then found a way by re-contextualizing a task done in another race to fit the anime / Akihabara theme for Detective Conan option.

BTW, I just realized that as I haven't watched the TAR:Asia seasons, I probably lack the reference for any tasks designed for that.

Man, they're really taking notes from other versions. Tokyo, like Munich, saw a few rehashed tasks.

From US, the wasabi roulette (TAR15) and looking for people with signs while riding amusement park rides (TAR9)

Also the Analyze Detour from Canada season 3 Sudbury (graphing a crime scene)

Solid Leg.  I agree that a more tight edit would've made it an even more exciting Leg especially with all the placement changes.  I was surprised teams took the penalty at the wasabi.  I was happy to see it again, but it lacked the more wacky Japanese game show elements that made TAR15's task more fun.

The Road Block was definitely awesome.

Thinking about that crime scene Detour, I still prefer TARPH2's crime scene/MURDER!!! Detour.  It was more random and fun. hehe
But I like how they were able to recycle the TAR Canada task and connect it with Detective Conan for a full-on anime/Akihabara Detour.

Tar 13 Leg 9 Flour transport roadblock
Tar 17 Leg 7 The Circus detour
Tar 21 Leg 7 Syncing steps detour
Tar 21 Leg 8 Russian Break-dance detour

And from the spoiler,
The Russian Timezone roadblock from tar 21 leg 8 will return as well

So majy tasks for next episode  :ascared

What a great leg. Most tasks as mentioned are repurposed with some alteration, but they work. Loved having teams at the same challenges, placement shifting around and more than one team attempting the FF.

>>Tar 5 Leg 4  Drink one shot detour
Was 1st Route Info

>>Tar 13 Leg 9 Flour transport roadblock
Adapted into a harder Route Info, instead of fifty 25kg bags of flour, they were asked to carry twenty 50kg bags of flour. Fewer bags, but the load way heavier. FF team struggle a lot in this.
It's interesting that the making off segment tell us later on, that because girls were struggling during test run, so they reduced the bag count from 30 to 20.

>>Tar 17 Leg 7 The Circus detour
It only looked like the Circus Clown detour, but it wasn't. The plate thing was only a component of a two part Fast Forward. The plate (singular) is part one, being similar only in the sense that they must not let that drop, with the part 2 being an aerial routine.

>>Tar 21 Leg 7 Syncing steps detour
>>Tar 21 Leg 8 Russian Break-dance detour
Yup, even the same songs were used, and I think were both the same routine.

>>The Russian Timezone roadblock from tar 21 leg 8 will return as well
I think it was the same "Pencils Down" guy back there, but sadly he doesn't say "Pencils Down", he starts and finish every round in Russian. But I get the impression, it was slightly simplified, compared to the original US version. Some racers did struggle at it, but not as much US racers.

I like the way how the EP was used in this leg. It didn't get them the win (that be hard with a FF in the leg), but I think that it was a sound strategic move.

There's a UTurn in Barcelona.

The few tasks spotlighted in the preview, looked familiar, but can't recall if they were done in another version.
- There's a learning flamenco task, which looks like a Route Info
- There's a carrying a bed though the streets which is probably one side of the detour.
- And a shooting challenge which is probably the RB, that I'm sure I've seen done before, just can't recall when.

And was there a prize?

yes they had won a trip to France, Germany and Switzerland (the place of origin of the sponsor's milk)

出水芙蓉= Lotus flower breaking the surface?
(A Chinese idiom which is used to describe a pure, pretty woman)
水=water  芙蓉=Lotus/Blossom, in Chinese, the lotus also symbolizes purity, long life, humility, honor and tranquility

軍中綠花= Green flower of the army?
(A folk song in PRC army which also symbolizes female soldiers)
軍=Army 綠=Green 花=Flower

I am glad to see Shenzhen TV has made such a great improvement in this season (compare to S2).
In fact the Canadian version (S2?) had come to my hometown and I had just passed through their U-Turn sign. :)

It didn't really matter in the end, but what were the models and idols doing wrong at the bakery? Their stacks just not neat enough?
And the penalties? I assume the actors took a private car? And the idols crossed the street on a red light? hehe

As far as I remember the clue just said stack them to the Baker's approval, which we assume that they had to be properly stacked, in neat rows of bags, not just thrown randomly.

Completely forgot that I loved how they had to go through the Moscow metro to move between the 1st few tasks. That's gorgeous.

Penalties:
30 minutes for taking a private car, instead of a proper Taxi.
30 minutes for crossing on a red light. Just cause other people were doing it, racers are not allowed to do that.

Interesting tidbit.

Quote
Former hurdler Liu Xiang's appearance as Sailor Moon received mass online mockery

Meanwhile, retired Olympic hurdler Liu Xiang made headlines last week, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

Just before the Olympics, he recorded an episode for reality show The Amazing Race China, dressed in cosplay as 1990s Japanese cartoon character Sailor Moon. Perhaps predictably, that caused a stir online.

While the segment was meant to be humorous, thousands took to social media to mock how "beautiful" he appeared dressed as a woman.

Some criticised his "crossdressing", saying he "seriously damaged his image" by appearing in such a way, and others said they now find him "disgusting".

There are also users asking more critically whether he has fallen on hard times since his Olympic fame back in 2004, when he won the first track and field gold medal for China.

Japanese animation Sailor Moon was hugely popular in the 1990s

If Liu thought the worst was over, he was wrong. A week later, social media users were asking again whether he was struggling financially after he announced that he was filing a lawsuit against online taxi service Didi, China's answer to Uber.

Xinhua says Liu claims that Didi used images of him without his authorisation in online advertising.

Poor guy :( Yes, that is a risk with TAR China's celebrity-based casting. They have an image to uphold, put them in embarrassing costumes or situations (like the Sailor Moon task) and the tabloids will be chomping at the bit to tear them down.

Not so, of course, when it's more average people.

Not surprised by the reaction, dressing-up like that would definitely be viewed by local viewers as making a fool of oneself. And in Chinese pop culture, and I get the impression that might be common for other major East Asian cultures (like Japanese or South Korean), those type of "making fool of yourself" type of things should not be done by most celebrities, it's kind of something reserved for what's called in mandarin 諧星(Xie-Xin), I can't really find a proper translation for this term, while Google Translates just gives me "Comedian" which ain't an exact translation at all. Those type of celebrities not exactly common in western cultures, the only person that I can think of that comes slightly close to what would be considered Xie-Xin in the US would be Conan O'Brien, and that seems like a stretch, cause there's also some level of being a C or D-list star associated with the expression. All of this just to say, that "making a fool of oneself" like that would only be appropriate for those types of celebrities, not an Olympian, thus the unsurprising backlash.

Hello everyone!

So we had a lot more penalties, but I wasn't quite able to follow them this time. What did Tingting/Rui and Zhehan/Sifan do wrong in the Detour?

Hopefully the Chinese Wiki will be updated soon, but if it's not...What was the location of the two Detours and the U-Turn board? (They're shown on the map in Chinese)

Aaaaand, here's the Detour names and Roadblock prompt. Please transcribe them, thank you!

Was just reading the Wiki, got three observations:
- Shouldn't the filming dates for each leg also be included in the entries? I believe we know all the filming dates for the season. Or is the info there, and I just missed it.
- Was re-watching Leg 3, there should be a correction made towards what the additional 45-minute penalty Vanness and Melody received. It was not about receiving help, but it was after failing to read out the answer the 1st time around, they simply returned with the correct answer without riding the coaster again.
- BTW the UTurn vote result that's on the wiki, not matching the one I'm finding on Wikipedia (Chinese entry), what was the source?

Also just watched Leg 6, and gotta say I'm really loving the season design, and how they manage to incorporate not just Olympic cities but Olympic tasks. And they probably did the Face-Off better than the Canadians have done so far, I think this was my favorite use of it.
Some teams are lucky for the way they film this version, as there's almost a two weeks break between this leg and next one.

I was away this weekend, but I got a chance to watch the Rome episode. Jin Xing was one of the most enjoyable racers I've seen. Very funny lady.

The English Wikipedia listed Dachuan and Chang as the non-majority of the votes, but that's apparently changed now. I will fix it when our Wiki comes back online.

Another great leg. Sad about Jin Xing and Hans but I really like everyone else left so its okay. (Actually, I've enjoyed every single team this season.)

And this is one of only 2 times I've not been angered or annoyed by a Face Off/Duel Duel. (The other was TARPH2's carabao racing.)

I'm anxious to see the next eps with less teams. One reason I kind of lost interest in the latter halves of TAR China 1 and 2 and can never really get into HaMerotz is the looong episodes. They bore me sometimes, especially when I can't understand the language. The length though has always been a downer for me. Kinda made me appreciate TARPH's daily, shorter eps.

give me full lay of leg

I loved every part of this Leg.

The waterbikes were a fine start to the Leg. The Oscar Lego task was a great excuse to be in front of Dolby Theater.

But the bungee/clue grabbing Road Block.  WOW!  That might have been the most difficult bungee jump task I've ever seen on TAR.  Certainly more difficult than any of the other "jump and grab" tasks.  The ladder was definitely a big part of what made the task so hard.  It was so unstable, their teammates and even crew had to hold the ladder steady just so they could make it up.  Plus, they had to grab two halves.   And teams failed several times!  Amazing.

Then the Universal Studios task. I guess hearing them say English lines is amusing, but it really was a very cool and fun task.  And even with no Jin Xing and Hans, the teams were able to really provide lots of entertainment with the task.  I included a Universal Studios task on one of my TARPH fantasy Leg thingies, thinking it would be impossible for any TAR to actually do such a task.  And on the Universal Studios backlot.  But TAR China did it.  And it was awesome.

The Detour was simple, but good.  There's definitely been a lot of dancing this season, but it fit with the Leg and location.  The skills side of the Detour was also the type of task that could've easily been an Active Route Info task this season too.

And YAY to self-driving in Los Angeles.  Could've been even more fun with no GPS though lol

Seriously, I've been enjoying this season of TAR China so much.  Maybe my favorite non-Australian international TAR season ever.  Great teams, great tasks, great Legs, great episodes.

Was almost expecting another leg with many repeated tasks from TAR US, but happy to learn that it was not the case.

Not just Doctor Who, haven't you notice they've mostly been using Movie or TV score as their BGM, this season which have already included riffs from Pacific Rim (Ramin Djawadi), Marvel's The Avengers (Alan Silvestri), Now You See Me (Brian Tyler), Kingsman: The Secret Service (Henry Jackman), Pirates of the Caribbean (Hans Zimmer or Klaus Badelt) (one of them), among others which I can't really recall right now.

Some teams really watch the original TAR US before they came on this version
Guo Jingjing & Huo Qigang can even correctly stated the high-sky dancing was a fast-forward in TAR US, which was held on Season 3, 14 years ago
Never expected teams to be able to do so

Was already rooting for Kenneth/Jingjing for hometown reasons, but this proves I pick my favourites right!

Quote
Kenneth: I think this was just a Speed Bump in the American version.
Jingjing: *Fast Forward.
Kenneth: Fast Forward?! (to camera) How come it's a Roadblock now when the Americans only had it as a Fast Forward?!

谁能身轻如燕? Who can float like a butterfly?
谁想跟仙人掌跳舞? Who wants to dance with the cactuses?
圣胡安广场 Plaza (actually Mercado) San Juan
Yep, the penalty was Melody and Vanness being too far from each other (juxtaposed with other teams saying they had to stay close).

What a great finish (with my favorite team already out, my second favorite one got to bag this one.  :conf:), with S4 announced at the end of it and an after the race special announced for next week.

Just a quick edit to add the the After the Race which is already taped was hoated hy Jin Xing.

I loved that the Memory Task wasn't just a simple switchback, there was an awesome level of added difficulty on it, that wasn't on the original version.
I took some notes while watching, GB will still need help with the task titles, but here are all the locations:

- Praia de Copacabana - Start of the Leg
- Bairro do Vidigal - Barbecue Challenge RI
- Praia de Ipanema - TAR27 switchback with the FutiVolei RI (that's how we write it down here, in case you're wondering, should it be FootVoley?? in English) Task
- Praia Vermelha - That was a switchback also, wasn't it? Water Ski RB, just can't remember what season.
- Escadaria Selaron (+ streets of Lapa) - Let's Samba RI
- Praia do Flamengo - Memory Task and Finish Line
-

What was the memory task about?

Part 1 was basically a simpler version of the using rope to set the route on a map like Turner Field Memory Task from TAR19, part 2 was the added difficulty, they had to search for flags from the visited countries inside glass bottles buried in the sand. Each team could only grab two bottles at a time, and if a racer touch the bottle it must be grabbed and taken to map area, if it was the wrong flag, they must return flag to bottle and rebury it until all flags were correctly set on the map.

Does anyone know the total distance of the route?

That's what I'm curious to know. With the back and forth in Europe and Asia, it's gonna be a lot :D

I can get it up tomorrow if I have the Roadblock prompt. (Sorry, don't like to begin work until I have all my ducks in a row)

What's the grand prize?

and I'll probably need this too, now that I think about it, though I just assumed it was the same prize as the last two seasons.

What's the grand prize?

Not much really, the cool multiple destinations sponsored trips by "By-Health" (which was also the title sponsor for the season) were all awarded for the other legs. Beside the trophies for the race winners, they just got a Pearl Necklace (gN Pearl).  Nothing really matching the really cool theme for this season, of visiting cities that hosted Olympic Games.

Had to cheat a bit, which is the most stupid work-around all my devices are set to type in Trad. Chinese, instead of Simp. Chinese., so I actually typed that in Trad. Chinese on Google Translate, which changed it to Simp. Chinese.

I remember asking last year if the prize was still CN¥1,000,000, and I don't think I ever got a response. (For what it's worth, I'm still missing tons of end-of-leg prizes for season 2)

Distance Traveled    61 300 km (38 000 miles)

It's...actually not the longest. This is probably because the Pacific Ocean was never formally crossed.

In case someone was wondering, I just watched their first "After the Race" special. Yup, you read that correctly, first. Seems it's going to be at least a two-parter.

But it wasn't a full reunion, featuring only 3-teams and a half (half as Jin Xing was hosting). Well mostly featuring 2 of the final 4 (only the entertainers, sadly the athletes were not included) , with the broadcasters being part of a short segment.  There are probably more teams appearing on part 2.

It was very Chinese / Asian variety show style, lot's of the live audience interaction, bringing them in to some of the task partial reproductions.
They did recap different aspects of the show, focusing a lot on food, how the sausage speed bump in Germany was designed, discussing the Vodka RI, Paella RI from Barcelona, Wasabi Rolls RI from Tokyo.

Getting a good taxi or good drivers is also discussed and the challenges with language barrier. The subject Self Driving and favorite transportation option is also explored.

The 1st part concluded with them re-trying the ninja rope course from the Japan RB.

Oh no. I HATED how this was Amazing Race China 3: Olympic Edition. I mean, why would you have that? How many tasks were Olympic related?
When Season 4 comes, just make it plain and original. No twists, just normal travel.

Season 3 was great. After intruders and all that, it was nice to see TAR China sticking to basics.  This really was a "back to basics" season even though it kinda was their first "basics" season really.  The first 2 seasons didn't feel too much like TAR, though the casts were still solid.

The Olympic connections and tasks never really took over the show.  And it was much better introduced in-show than TAR Canada does with the random Canadian connections to their international destinations. lol

I was in the neighborhood so stopped back by the Atlanta Grafitti Wall yesterday. No signs of TAR China anymore sadly... except for one "china" under the stairs.

Just to conclude things, the second part from the After the Race programme was fascinating.

No added racers, but the entire thing of how alliances formed for the U-Turn was discussed (and on hindsight who they'd vote for now), favorite tasks. The most interesting part though was the final part that brought in some teams 'body" producers and a more behind the scenes producers to highlight things from their point of view.

And Season 4 was also briefly discussed, with differing or maybe added elements from what the article midwall found.

- There's a theme, there were no specifics about what the theme will be about though.
- Destinations they plan to visit Africa, Middle East and they intend to cross the Pacific Ocean.

Here is an AMAZING feature on Jin Xing from The Hollywood Reporter:

They definitely mention TAR China, but they mistakenly put 2015 instead of 2016 season lol

1. I watched the first half in 2019, then continued the second half in 2021. I was glad that season pick emerged as the eventual winners.

2. I really liked Season 3, more than Season 4 which I am still watching and certainly more than the first two. All the teams were likeable, I feel.

3. I never had a good opinion of Vanness Wu (of F4 fame) before TARCN4, but I really grown to like him after watching him. I was also kind of bummed that  he and Melody were eliminated 4th.

4. One thing I didn't like about TAR China in general is the sidelining of the non-celebrity partner. There would be some product placement going "You can do it, Liu Xiang" and then intentionally leaving out his partner's name.  :groan:

5. There were also several instances in the earlier episodes where the teams were talking about the finish line in Brazil. Not sure if this happens for every season, but maybe the racers in the Chinese version always received information on all the cities that they would visit. If so, it's probably the only franchise to intentionally divulge such details to racers.

6. Kenneth Fok is probably the richest person to have ever raced. I assume that his family's worth is probably in the billions. He was also recently elected in Hong Kong's "patriots only election"
https://www.thestandard.com.hk/section-news/section/21/237223/Winner's-wife-performs-like-a-champ

Meanwhile, Zhang Zhehan was recently cancelled by the Chinese authorities and almost everyone in China for posing for pictures at the Yasukuni Shrine in Japan in 2018/19. (The Yasukuni Shrine is a sore point among the Chinese and Koreans because they house the war dead from World War 2.) I think he is trying to appeal in court regarding this matter.
