The race started this afternoon at Cougar Stadium at College of the Canyons in Valencia.
The UCLA marching band was there to send the teams off.
They played the TAR theme in brass glory.
The destination county is China. The city is Guangzhou.

The teams I recognized: Globetrotters, Twinsies, Marge/Luke, Cowboys, Connors and the Internets. The teams I didn't recognize are the green team, the aqua team (country singers?) and possibly Mark/Mallory. The flights at the counter that I noticed were BR15 and CX883.

I can't see the cowboys at all in there? I dont think there on
The Cowboys were there; they were standing just a few feet from me in the food court chatting with Connor. My camera only produces 40 min. of video so I concentrated on the teams I didn't know. (I should have brought a normal camera; people were taking cellphone pictures with/of the racers and production didn't pester them :groan:)

The stop they need is The 2nd Workers' Cultural Palace (Shi'er Gong). Travel time around 1h20min.

Cowboys choose metro to get to downtown(we didn't find them at airport because they choose metro)
They want to make their way to Jiangnan Rd North and searched 3 wedding dress shop to find clue.

So even YouTubers took a penalty, the twins still couldn't catch up?
Joey and Meghan ahead Natalie and Nadiya 15+ mins to check in pitstop,we don't think they taking penalties.After checking in,they talked to Phil for a while until sisters checked in,then they moved aside to let sisters standing on the mat.

The task on wheel is possibly like what they did on London eye in S7:took wheel and find cluebox at Haixinsha Park.it is maybe not a RB.

Jiangnan Ave North
when teams arrived Jiangnan Ave North,they must search iof the 3 wedding shops,each shop only had 3-4 clues,if all the clues had been taken ,they had to find another wedding shop.
All the wedding shop are hidden in lanes,it is so hard to find even you are locals.
The clue you got require you to find a buliding which is "bubbling"(refered to Canton Tower) and buy tickets on counter6,the clue also offered teams a wheel model which make it easier.
looks like dave and connor struggled in this task and brenchel/markmallory/global/margieluke caught up with them at wedding street and they were on same metro to Canton Tower.

We didn't find cowboys at wedding street,but they arrived Canton Tower 1st,we supposed they already took clue and left.
At the same time,Leo and Jamal/Natalie and Nadiya still confused wedding shop and other 3 teams even not arrived.

Canton Tower
When our detectives arrived canton tower,cowboys had already on the wheel.other 5 teams(on metro) bought tickets and go to top of the tower.later global/jessica nd john arrived,then Joey and Meghan/Natalie and Nadiya/Jeniffer and Caroline arrived.Leo and Jamal still disappeared.
We're not sure the detail of this task,we speculate this task may look like what happened on London Eye in S7:On the highest place of Guangzhou to find a cluebox somewhere in Guangzhou.

It took so long for teams to finish this task.30+mins later,cowboys came down and took taxi,Brenchel came down 2nd and took taxi.
Leo and Jamal showed up a bit later but finished it quickly and came down 3rd.

Haixinsha Park

teams arrived Haixinsha Park almost in the same order they came down tower...However,Dave/Connor and Margie/Luke came down 4th and 5th,but they choose to take apm to Haixinsha(which is much faster than taxi!) while Leo and Jamal took a taxi,this make Dave/Connor and Margie/Luke arriving Haixinsha before Leo and Jamal.
The task in Haixinsha Park is a Roadblock.Hanging in the air and turn 10 somersaults.It may related to the Asian Games.
This task is easy to complete .The order for finishing this RB is the order teams arrived RB place.
Cowboy finished it 1st and made their way to pitstop.The order which teams arrived pitstop is that they finished RB,no drama enroute to pitstop.

I think transportion is the key of this leg,teams who choose metro to avoid traffic jam got huge advantage.

Teams had been written the name of their next destination in Chinese on their forhead:星期8小镇(English:Eday Town),then played Taichi with master.
Eday Town
Eday Town is a Indoor playground for children.
A cluebox showed up and it is a RB.
RB require racer assembling a toy car then bring it to a child in Children's Activities Centre located at Tongxin Rd(童心路）.

I followed Margie/Luke, then I saw Brendon/Rachel from afar... Margie/Luke found a taxi quickly... Brendon/Rachel hung around asking for directions, so I went up to help. After checking Baidu and sending them off in a taxi, we got into another one to follow... Leo/Jamal stopped our cab wanting us to let them have it, but since we were going to the same place, we ignored them...
2. From Chen Clan Temple to Eday Town
Eday Town is a children's playpen, located at the No. 5 Tarmac of the old Guangzhou Airport... They built a small car. Because we were following Brendon/Rachel and had left Leo/Jamal behind, we kept thinking the latter was not inside. At this time we believe Dave/Connor, Luke/Margie, Brendon/Rachel, and Mark/Mallory were there... (We were surprised when we saw on the forum that Jet/Cord were only now seen at the Chen Clan Temple. They were probably stuck when they dismissed the metro in the morning and took a cab, getting stuck in traffic on the way...) Herbert/Nathaniel arrived later. When we left Jessica/John, Joey/Meghan, and Caroline/Jennifer were still at the Roadblock...
3. From Eday Town to the Children's Activity Centre
Teams had to take the car at the Roadblock to the Centre to get their clue. (We saw on the forums that Jet/Cord and surprisingly Caroline/Jennifer had finished the Roadblock, so we guess that the Express Pass had been used...) When we arrived Dave/Connor had just finished and Brendon/Rachel had just arrived. (At this time the forums said that Mark/Mallory returned to Eday Town to get their bag(s).) There was no one to ask for the next location, and we couldn't just run up and ask "Where are you going?", so the lead was broken... We followed the spoiler and rushed to Shamian... and saw the rolled up mat and a bunch of Westerners with cameras. We deduced this was the Pit Stop, but there was still Liwan Lake, so we headed there.
4. Deduction is that there was a Detour at the Children's Activity Centre
The choices were between Liwan Lake and a sauna house. The two were 5min apart on foot. When we arrived at Liwan Lake Margie/Luke had already finished and left to find a taxi, and Brendon/Rachel had just finished... Here there were Leo/Jamal, Herbert/Nathaniel, and Mark/Mallory. The task at Liwan Lake was to kick a shuttlecock, with the aim of kicking it ten times between the two team members... It wasn't long before Herbert/Nathaniel and Leo/Jamal were done, and then Joey/Meghan arrived... (By then the online forums said Brendon/Rachel had checked in in first place...) We watched Meghan/Joey for about ten minutes, who reached the count of eight several times. Mark/Mallory couldn't get it together... Since we saw that someone had made it to the Pit Stop we returned to Shamian, with John/Jessica finally arriving as we left. We got onto their taxi to get to Shamian... The driver told us about the 5min distance between the sauna house and Liwan Lake. Since we didn't see Dave/Connor, Jennifer/Caroline, and Jet/Cord, we deduced that this was the Detour.
5. Pit Stop at Shamian
We arrived to find Leo/Jamal still looking for the Pit Stop, but it didn't take them very long. They placed in seventh. Hence we waited for the last three teams to battle it out... It was during this time that they filmed a few duplicate shots. (I want to say that the racers were all great actors, pretending to be happy, relieved, huggy...) It was a while before John/Jessica and Joey/Meghan arrived simultaneously, but John/Jessica were faster runners than Joey/Meghan. Ten minutes passed before Mark/Mallory arrived...

I was browsing through Rachel's mentions on Twitter because her recent posts have been interesting -- and I happened to come across that photo. I'm on transit in Kuala Lumpur. Of all times!
Earlier on, the flight was assigned here from a different boarding gate in the satellite terminal, but at the same time the trains connecting the satellite terminal and the main terminal broke down. They had to bus all the travellers stranded on the other side (none of which were our racers). That added to the delay.

My sincerest apologies. I've screwed up multiple times today already. (Too many flights, too little sleep, not enough food.)
I was looking at the wrong damned plane at a next-door gate. The Colombo direct flight has left; delayed because of the gate change and the train system breakdown, but it has nevertheless left.

OK one last post to wrap things up (unless you guys have questions):
The first team I saw was Margie and Luke (7.50pm). They were running around and later went to the Jetstar counter where the photo was taken.

I hung around for a little bit until Rachel started spazzing in (in the best way) at around 8.20pm. Brendon hung around behind while Rachel asked around frantically for the Singapore Airlines counter. They got pointed to the next aisle over, and that was the last I saw of them. Didn't manage to take a photo, but they were there.
That leaves two teams unaccounted for. You'll find one of them in this group photo at the Colombo gate:

My sincerest apologies. I've screwed up multiple times today already. (Too many flights, too little sleep, not enough food.)
I was looking at the wrong damned plane at a next-door gate. The Colombo direct flight has left; delayed because of the gate change and the train system breakdown, but it has nevertheless left.

One last thing: While I was here in KL I relied heavily on Jobby, who helped me figure out what flights teams could possibly be trying for, and filling me in on the other spoilers from earlier today. A great mind to compare notes against, and spoiling with me every step of the way (except when the wifi fizzled out here, which was very often). So thanks Jobby!
Also kudos to the camera- and sound-men, who work really, really hard to make this show great. The ones I saw were kind enough not to yell at me, or are my ninja skills that good?
Now waiting for the flight that will finally take me home. In all the excitement I forgot to have dinner, and now I'm stuck in an empty airport on an empty stomach. Can someone send food?

7.47pm: Margie and Luke. I was on transit and had just arrived by bus from the Budget Terminal at 7.35pm, and they were the first team I saw.

7.47pm: Margie and Luke give a confessional. Well Margie gives a confessional. Couldn't hear what they were saying. Checkered shirt and red T-shirt are producer types, you'll see them again later.
Around 8.10pm: I'm at the Jetstar counter at check-in row M and quite a few others recognise Luke/Margie, yelling "I'm a fan!" and "Good luck!" while bad-surreptitiously taking photos on their phones. The cameraman and soundman don't chase them off, which struck me as weird.
Around 8.20pm: Brendon/Rachel run in and Rachel does her frantic thing: "Where's Singapore Airlines?! They told us it was check-in row M!" (It was actually check-in row L.) A worker at Jetstar points them the right way and they run over. (It was the same check-in island, just on the other side.) Luke chides: "Don't help them!"
Around 9.30pm: This stampede of people is screaming and running down the central axis of the terminal. I run over to see which team they were chasing. The cowboys can't possibly be that popular?! Asked the guy at the currency exchange: "Korean superstar." False alarm. I didn't care squat about some Korean pretty-face. I saw the teenage girls holding cardboard hearts and rolled my eyes. The currency-exchange guy also said some teams tried to change for Sri Lankan currency, but he didn't have any.

Hi,
Think Dave is in grey sweater. I have seen him run down stairs on left, go out of shot and then run back up stairs on right (closest to camera). He is running with a white sheet in his hand (possibly the clue). I suspect that this is a roadblock and he keeps getting it wrong and has to go back.

I saw the 2/3? teams jump out of taxis on the far left, production were waiting on the left side of the oval construction site --> ran to the bottom of the screen and out of view. All happened in about one minute
I missed the Dave/Connor taxi arrival but later saw Dave running without Conner, one of the country singers is now running up and down the stairs alone without her backpack. Also saw another person in a grey hoodie and another person in red running up and down the stairs, not sure if they're contestants though ???

Glad Neobie is back. I need a break, I've got over 50 interesting screen shots. Watch the man siting on the handrail in the middle center of all flights. It seems to be a judge that says aye or nay to only one participant, like a road block- Two other activities happen off screen, one on top of the stairs and one at street level off to the left. There also seems to be like a meeting point for the waiting partners right behind the temporary construction circle at center.

New here but been watching the cams from the Spanish steps. They are running to the far left which can either lead to a series of narrow alleyways full of shops and a few old churches, can be very easy to get lost in. Otherwise there is an entrance to the metro down there but a bit hidden and there is also a road which leads to the next piazza which I can't remember the name.

Every screen shot I took (70+ in all) was because there was someone running in it. I don't think I can remember all. For now they are not marked in order to see if someone can detect any other movement. I'll will map all of the actions that I noticed, later. The time at the bottom is North America's Central Standard Time (7 hours earlier than Rome). If you notice, I've been awake all night. I need to take a nap for now and I'll bring the rest of the pictures as soon as I wake up.

@Plaidmoon i saw them in rome. The first team i saw were probably two male africans, the second team was a couple, the third was an old man.
That sounds like she saw Flight Time/Big Easy, probably John/Jessica (or maybe Margie/Luke) and Dave/Connor. I'm asking her where she saw them and for more info on the couple.

@Plaidmoon I was in town, near the Spanish Steps.
So, I couldn't narrow down the couple she saw, but I believe it was John/Jessica. Still no sign of Margie/Luke. Since she saw them running near the steps, I thought at first they were running to the pit stop. However, I didn't get the impression they all finished at the same time (those who were watching may have a better feel for that. They could have been arriving at the Spanish Steps , but I thought they used taxis, so that doesn't work either.

today i arrived to millennium elephant orphanage! was a bit sad to say good bye to nishan and his mother, that works at the guest house i've stayed at two times in kandy. but im sure i will be back again. today i've got showed around the elephant orphanage, otherwise i haven't done much. i watched when the elephants had their "play time" looking for fruits that got hidden for them around a field. there were also an american tv-show called amazing race that were filming here today! i arrived on the best day, because tonight there is bbq for dinner. nicenice. and tomorrow at 7 i will meet my elephant rani for the first time, and do some teaching for local kids. exciting!

Is that really a local race or not?
Based on some other private info there is a good chance this Paris sighting is TAR 24. Heads up for more sightings.

Credit for this find to the amazing Slowhatch!!
Thanks to a LIVE sighting by s meger and his wife, we now have photographic evidence of the SIX Sequestered teams traveling on their flight Bangkok to Seoul on Dec 4th.
The two of them are very savvy TAR fans, very familiar with the race, and had no trouble recognizing that they were seeing TAR, that this was an "AllStar" type season, and that these teams "heading home" meant that these were eliminated teams.
They saw Globetrotters, Margie and Luke, Joey and Meghan, Mark and Mallory, John and Jessica, and the Twinnies.
We did see the six teams board the plane and realize that some of them must have
already been eliminated as they were returning to the states. We are very
excited to see this season as it was so cool seeing them in person
We think perhaps there were production people with them when they got off the
plane but of course no one we recognized, but we knew they were not racers.
Also we were surprised that the Mallory and Mark had become a team - that
would have been tricky not knowing each other well to have that kind of
experience.
S happened to walk by them when they were having lunch and recognized Luke's voice as someone he had heard and when he looked over the globe trotters were with them (Margie and Luke), dead give away. We then saw them all as they boarded the plane.
Many thanks to them both for sharing their photos and story with us, describing what they saw, and loving the experience!

A story of seaplanes and cash prizes, or
How I (kinda) got Margie and Luke eliminated
7.47pm: Margie and Luke. I was on transit and had just arrived by bus from the Budget Terminal at 7.35pm, and they were the first team I saw. They give a confessional. Well Margie gives a confessional. Couldn't hear what they were saying. Checkered shirt and red T-shirt are producer types, you'll see them again later.
Around 8.10pm: I'm at the Jetstar counter at check-in row M and quite a few others recognise Luke/Margie, yelling "I'm a fan!" and "Good luck!" while bad-surreptitiously taking photos on their phones. The cameraman and soundman don't chase them off, which struck me as weird.
Around 8.20pm: Brendon/Rachel run in and Rachel does her frantic thing: "Where's Singapore Airlines?! They told us it was check-in row M!" (It was actually check-in row L.) A worker at Jetstar points them the right way and they run over. (It was the same check-in island, just on the other side.) Luke chides: "Don't help them!"
11.17pm: It took a while to get through customs and find my way to the right gate, but here's red T-shirt production guy again at the gate to the direct Colombo flight.
That's a really long gap before I finally decided to go through customs, huh? Did I just go to McDonald's and chill while the race was happening all around me?
Not really. I was witnessing (and inadvertently contributing to) the end of Margie and Luke.
I'd promised Petr the cameraman I wasn't like the other rabid fans, tweeting and Facebooking everything in real time. You could tell how he was merely tolerating my presence, hating me secretly on the inside. "I know you're on Facebook right now," he chided at one point. (I know Petr is spelled with a few invisible vowels because I'm a creepy stalker. Sorry Petr.)
I decided to wait a while before spilling the beans. Choosing to tell the rest of the story now because:
1. It's Christmas and maybe this could count as a present. Or maybe just a story to keep you guys entertained.
2. The CBS execs are probably on holiday right now and won't care enough now to hate me.
3. The order of the first six boots is confirmed and public, and the placings of the Final Five have been spoiled by Cleo.
4. They've probably done the editing for Episode 5 by now, so either I'm in or not in the episode.
Back to the story. So I was connecting through Kuala Lumpur and already had tickets on a flight home the next morning, but when I heard the teams were in Malaysia and calculated (with Jobby's help) when they were likely to leave, I decided to stay at the airport that night instead of heading to a hotel, just to see if I got lucky.
Margie/Luke was indeed the first team I saw, and the only one I saw for a while. They were at Malaysia Airlines trying to get tickets, but could only get on standby. Another direct flight leaving the next morning was full too. I would have bolted and kept looking for options, but Margie stopped to give an interview. (Maybe Petr made her stop and answer his questions.) Precious minutes ticking.
Peach has a policy of non-intervention, but:
1. I'm not Peach.
2. She broke her own policy by helping Kaylani.
3. I wanted to be on TV.
4. Margie/Luke were in trouble and I could help.
Knowing yelling anything at Luke would... fall on deaf ears, I turned to what came to mind next. "Mrs Adams!" I shouted. Faux pas: Margie had remarried a long while back and now goes by Mrs O'Donnell. She corrected me later on camera. They came to me before Petr and Jerry the soundman followed and I flashed Luke a quick "RFF" in sign language. (Hope I did it right and didn't silently call him a "little bitch".)
"Hi, sorry for scaring you. Do you guys want some help? I have a laptop with me we can use to look up flights."
Margie took up the offer while Luke looked confused. Petr asked Margie in his interview voice, "What's happening here? Who is this?" I searched for an excuse, as did Margie. "We just met this gentleman who said he could help us."
I gave Margie and Luke the equivalent of $15 to get themselves a guidebook, partly because I wanted to help and partly because that'd help me find out where they were going. Luke came back with a Sri Lanka Lonely Planet.
With the passing of Apskip, I am now the resident flight-searcher of RFF (and by extension the TAR spoiling world), so I pulled up an option via Singapore arriving at 12.15am, 1h15 before the direct flight for which they were on standby. The second leg didn't have the required four seats (Margie/Luke/Petr/Jerry), so I found another connection, Emirates via Singapore arriving at 1.40am. Knowing full well that there was going to be a bunching in Sri Lanka, all we had to do was to get them into Colombo before sunrise. It was a strange set-up for a flight; usually they'd release them for a morning arrival. But KL was a last-minute leg replacing something else, so we've got to anticipate some weirdness.
Emirates had the tickets and we were ready to book. The problem: the website requires the input of an email, and Petr wouldn't allow it. "What if I use my own email?" I offered. Petr said no. How the hell are you supposed to book things online without an email? Tried Travelocity, TAR's favourite online travel agent. Required an email too. What the hell? I'd just watched an episode where Leo/Jamal were using Travelocity to get from Vienna to Abu Dhabi. (Turns out they didn't book it on the website, and went to an airline counter to buy the tickets.) All the product placement on the show is fake.
So the spoiler earlier that evening that everyone ended up ignoring? Was legit. It was indeed a travel agent where teams were directed to go buy tickets. Margie said they tried looking for it, but the taxi got lost. (It's not that obscure a location, their driver sucked.) They gave up and decided to head straight to the airport. Big mistake.
Margie asked if I had seen anyone else. Negative. I counter-asked if they were ahead of the pack. "No, we're dead last."
The 9.25pm Jetstar flight to Singapore was leaving soon, and Margie refused to chance it at Singapore's Changi Airport without a ticket already to Colombo. (New rules dictate that teams may only buy one set of tickets to their destination, and may not change unless something happens beyond their control.) We begged the Jetstar folks to hold tickets for them to Singapore (we had fifteen minutes before ticketing closed) while we tried to find a way to buy the Emirates tickets. Their counter didn't open until 10.10pm - too late. We tried calling the travel agency, but we didn't have a phone around. (I didn't have a Malaysia calling card with me and couldn't help.) To add to all the mayhem there was no wi-fi at the Jetstar counter, so we had to run around the terminal like idiots searching for an internet signal.
I asked Margie if she would try heading to Singapore, and if they couldn't catch the Emirates flight they could double back to Kuala Lumpur later that night to catch a flight the next morning. (It wouldn't hurt to try!) She said the rules didn't allow for that. Darned rules. Luke meanwhile was... not being incredibly useful.
The flight was closing... Margie was panicking... And then Petr helpfully added that they needed at least an hour to go through customs with their cameras. Margie was deflated. She gave up on the Jetstar-Emirates itinerary.
Back to Malaysia Airlines where I tried looking for more flights. There was a feasible route via Chennai arriving at 2.10am, but they only had two seats available. It wasn't about Margie and Luke now, I just wanted to find a flight to prove my prowess! Luke was in give-up mode, and didn't do much with the laptop I offered him. (Luke, I know you're reading this. From a friend to another, you give up too easily! Man up a little!)
A volleying rally ensued, me at the counter with two laptops and a smartphone (one on flightstats.com, one on Expedia, one on Travelocity), yelling out airport codes to the check-in lady two counters down while she replied with how many seats were available on each: "MAA at 10.15pm?!" "COK at 10.25pm?!" "TRZ at 10.30pm?!" Petr swung his camera left and right. It'd look fantastic if the shot made it onto the show. Full, full, full. I put together one or two three-leg itineraries, but Margie turned them down. "It's too dangerous."
All the options were exhausted. We sat down in front of Malaysian Airlines waiting for standby seats to open up. I chatted a little bit with Margie, attempted a conversation on Microsoft Notepad with Luke, and even tried to talk to likes-to-keep-to-himself Petr. Petr's a really cool guy. He climbed Everest and all! (Well 3/4 of it. But that's still cool.) Petr and Jerry eventually left to get a burger or something, but Margie said she couldn't reveal most stuff because *pointing to her chest* "I've got a microphone here picking up everything..." I ended up complaining to her about the lacklustre route and the crappy way they put together the KL leg at the last minute. She agreed, but noted that "we had fun." I reminded her that Luke hated China.
Margie and I did a little research onto where they were going once in Colombo. Find a "sil reddha" (probably a typo, a "silk reddha" perhaps) at Mulagandakuti Viharaya Welisara, then bring it to Gangaramaya Temple for a blessing from a monk. We circled both locations in the Lonely Planet. (The first location was hard to find, even online, but I got an approximate location.)
Malaysian Airlines finally beckoned for Margie and Luke. They were sent to the airline office to speak to the "boss," who got into a tiff with Petr over him filming them in the office. Barred outside the room (but with the airline lady not knowing they had hidden microphones), Petr shot the scene from behind the glass window and hiding behind some potted plants. Jerry didn't have quite as much work. He put on his headphones and waited outside the office, listening to their every word.
Half an hour ensued. The result: nothing. The best flight that remained was another standby flight leaving the next morning getting in at 9.45am. But trying to get on that flight means giving up on the sure option, which was an AirAsia flight leaving even later, from a different terminal (15min away by bus), arriving at 10.10am. Margie decided to play it safe, and I taught them how to get to the Budget Terminal. (I apologised to Petr and Jerry for making them sleep in that grungy terminal. The main terminal's much, much nicer.)
I reminded Margie that the last time TAR went to Sri Lanka, it was bunch after bunch after bunch. After hugs and a farewell shot on Petr's camera, I went through immigration to find the other teams.
PS. The AirAsia flight was delayed the next day, arriving only at 11.34am. They were so screwed.
PPS. Hindsight 20/20. What could I have done to save them? Force them on the Jetstar flight, get their credit card details, then book their Emirates tickets from Singapore to Colombo while they were in the air. Petr wouldn't have been around to enforce the no-email rule, and Margie/Luke would have been able to pick up their tickets once in Singapore. Oh well. If I couldn't save them, I don't think many people could have.

I'm sorry that your efforts to help Margie & Luke out only made matters worse, but as my dad always said, hindsight is 20/20. You did the best you could and that's really all that matters.

What I had the power to do (if I was really smart, but I wasn't that night after a long day of coordinating, calculating, and flying) was to save them. I didn't manage to.
I made a little pitch on how production might want to put me on a future season of TAR though. (Go check your sound recordings, Jerry! It's in there somewhere!)
I didn't read the waiver they made me sign (it was printed in font size 4 or something), but I signed it as "Neobie"...

It was a crazy day for me as well, with the fake Singapore spoilers which sprung up of no where (thank you Puppet for going down to those locations in Singapore personally) and coordinating with Neobie to make a bet on whether or not teams are still in their hotel or have already check-out (we found out eventually with a little detective work that they are still in KL). At one point Neobie was like, SO SHOULD I STAY IN SINGAPORE? :cmaslol
The most devastating feeling was knowing that you couldn't help a TAR team you really like. None of the options that I searched through flight stats and help from Chateau was useful (already found by Neobie anyway) because of all the production rules that Neobie already listed above. It was just a really depressing few hours as option after option was closed on Margie and Luke. And knowing that Margie and Luke was potentially 10-12 hours behind all the other teams, I literally couldn't sleep that night and worst of all, for the next few days I was seriously hoping for some miracle to happen.. but no, Margie and Luke wasn't spotted anywhere. My heart sank. :(

I wouldn't feel too bad about their elimination. It sounds like they should have tried harder to find the travel agent. They probably should have switched taxis when the first one couldn't find the place. Once they were at the airport, I suspect no one could have done more than you did. The rules and their reluctance to take chances did them in.

Or insisted on going to the travel agency. Making their way straight to the airport, of course no thanks to the cab driver who got lost, ended the race for them. Per Neobie, it was about an hour away from the airport and when it became clear that as they arrived to the airport that the counters do not open till later, there was no way that they could back track back to the travel agency I think.
Not to forget that their flight even got delayed by more than 30 minutes the very next day.

That's what I meant. If teams were given instructions to go to a particular travel agency to pick up tickets and Margie and Luke's taxi driver couldn't find it, then they should have paid their taxi driver and found another one that knew where the travel agency was. There were undoubtedly reasons why they were instructed to go to that travel agency. Gambling on finding a flight at an airport an hour drive away was the fatal mistake. However, if the travel agency had closed while they were lost, then Margie and Luke probably didn't have a choice, though it might have still been smarter to find another travel agency before going to the airport.

I don't think they were restricted to that one travel agency. But they were given the name and address in the additional information. No telephone numbers though. (They definitely arranged for that one travel agency to stay open late for the teams.)

Also, unless they stopped printing "Caution: U-Turn ahead" in the first clue of the leg, there was no U-Turn in the first Sri Lanka leg.
Didn't get a very good look at the additional information, but most of it was a list of airlines and connecting countries teams couldn't use. I was a little angry Scoot (a Singapore Airlines subsidiary) was on the same list as Biman Bangladesh Airlines!

In TAR terms, I always call these "midnight travel agencies," no matter the time of day that TPTB make use of them. Another good example was the travel agency used in Arusha in TAR20, but WRP has used them extensively in the past. It always seems like once or twice a race that this occurs.
Decades ago when I was in grad school, I worked part time at a travel agency and I am fairly knowledgeable of the procedures used at travel agencies. The owners were friends of mine and I worked there mainly to have access to FAM trips. But in the early days of TAR, it always intrigued me why TAR used "midnight travel agencies." One of the keys to one of these arrangements is when Phil says that flights are booked for teams, but they can change if they find a better flight combination.
Over time a pattern seemed to emerge. WRP seems to use them when there are very limited flights going to or flying out of what I call "end of the line" destinations. It might be a result of the "haj" fiasco from TAR11. WRP has a very tight production schedule. So how does WRP assure itself that all the teams will show up when they have local filming crews on the pay clock?
Anyway, over time I have come to believe that WPR works with a local "midnight travel agency" to block a certain number of seats on particular flights. This is essentially reserving a seat without a name attached to the reservation. Travel agencies can do it, individuals cannot. Also the particular travel agency doesn't really have to stay open late. Production could tell the travel agency that teams will be released at 1 am and teams will all arrive within a certain time frame. Then the travel agency could close, go home or whatever, and then be back ready for teams to arrive after 1 am.
In this case, the inducement for the travel agency to agree is the amount of revenue. 8 teams X 4 tickets per team is a lot of money to the agency. Add in a few production minders and it gets even more lucrative.
In the case of Margie and Luke, what could they have done? "If" my hypothesis is true, they could have gotten on the standby list at the airport for the flight everyone else was on and probably got on the flight when the travel agency returned the 4 unbooked seats to the airline. That would have taken guts. They would have had to pass up those earlier flights to Singapore. In race mode with adrenaline flowing, patience is not likely possibility.
Anyway, just some analysis, nothing is for sure.

I wouldn't normally give much weight to a tweet like this, but the guy tweeting it is a media insider. He's a Vice President at Cumulus Media, one of the largest radio station chains in the US with ownership of 460 stations. He also has his own business that consults with radio stations about their programming etc. He's no doubt meeting with Caroline and Jennifer because they are promoting the have record they released a few days ago. They may have said something to him about TAR 24 to try and boost their record's chances. Or he may just be making a meaningless comment. I wouldn't put too much weight on it, but it was an interesting tweet.

This is kind of old news, since it was a sighting from the last episode in Rome, but it was interesting, so I'll post it here. I found this at the Television Without Pity forum, so props to them for finding a fairly obscure article. This is a news story from the Caledonia Argus newspaper from Caledonia, MN about a trio of women who were visiting Rome and stumbled across Phil at the pit stop in Rome. After having a chat with Phil, they wandered over to the Spanish Steps and ended up helping Jamal with Roman numeral math for an hour or so. I'll quote the relevant parts below. There is also a picture of them with Phil and the greeter and another picture of Jamal, Big easy and a cameraman on the Spanish Steps. I'd post them but I'm short on time right now.

Amazing coincidence
After getting up later than planned and having trouble finding an operational money exchange, the ladies landed at the Piazza del Popolo, a large outdoor square.
“We just got there, and we were walking through when Julie noticed cameras, several of them,” Buege said.
As the three took bearings on what was around them, Julie advised her sister and daughter that they might want to stick around because it looked like something was going to happen.
Just then Buege noticed a familiar person. “I recognized the host even from the back,” she said.
It was Phil Keoghan, host of the hit reality television game show “The Amazing Race,” which pits teams of two against one another in a race, literally, all over the world.
“I took a second to process what was happening, and I said, ‘Shut up! We’re seeing a taping of The Amazing Race,’” Buege said, to which the host whipped around and said, “Shh! We’re taping a travel video.”
The ladies knew better, being faithful viewers of the show, and enjoyed a 15-minute conversation with Keoghan about everything from family to what happens between filming. The exchange was complete when the three were able to snag a picture with the famous New Zealander.
Fifteen minutes of fame
Keoghan excused himself when he received word that a team was headed his way and filming would commence. The trio walked a few blocks in the direction the teams were coming from and landed up at the Spanish Steps, a beautiful staircase that connects the lower Piazza di Spagna with the upper piazza Trinita dei Monti. The steps were built in the 1720s using Roman Baroque Style and are a common gathering place for people from all walks of life.
Upon arrival, the ladies recognized one of the Harlem Globe Trotter contestants, but it was contestant Jamal Zadran who solicited their help. In the show contestants frequently seek help from the residents with varying degrees of success due to language barriers. But these Minnesotans, no matter what the rest of the U.S. says about the northern dialect, spoke English.
The challenge was to acquire the date on the obelisk at the top of the steps, translate that from Roman numerals into digits and add that to the number of steps. The contestant then had to write that number on a postcard and present it to “the happy couple” at the top of the staircase. For every wrong answer presented, the contestant had to run back down the steps before trying again.
Julie, Sadie and Buege set out to assist Zadran by asking people, many of whom did not speak English, how many steps there are and what “D” equals in Roman numerals, among other questions. The intensity of the game impressed Buege, who said, “It kept striking me: It really is a race. These contestants don’t know who is ahead and who is behind.”
Having witnessed three teams enter the Piazza del Popolo, the threesome knew Zadran needed to act swiftly. Well over an hour passed as he and the Caledonians worked to answer the question. Zadran had to run the steps seven times before getting the thumbs-up.
Brimming with enthusiasm Zadran hugged the ladies and ran to pay for his cab before heading out. But just as he was paying the cabbie, the ladies noticed one of the Globe Trotters sprinting away.
“We were like go, go, go,” Julie said. To this day, they don’t know if Zadran and his cousin, Leo Temory, beat the Globe Trotters. They will soon find out when the Rome episode of “The Amazing Race” airs.
Even if you’re not a fan of the show, it might be worth checking out at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 13, on CBS. Here’s why: As Zadran sprinted off to finish the challenge, a cameraman pushed paperwork in front of Buege, Julie and Sadie urging them to sign. When Buege asked, “What am I signing?” the cameraman said, “If you want to be on TV, you’ll sign this.”
Lifelong memories
It’s unknown if their role in helping Zadran was significant enough for reality TV, but participating certainly made a lifelong impression on the family.
“It was a slow start to the morning, and we were just glad to get where we were going. Then I’m standing on the Spanish Steps thinking: I’m in Rome, which is one of my dreams, yesterday I saw the pope – I’ve been Catholic my whole life so it was incredible to me – and now I’m standing here having participated in a show that’s been part of my life. I realized how incredibly lucky I was with all the opportunities I was given,” Sadie said.
The family now waits for “The Amazing Race” Rome episode to air on CBS and is discussing having an “Amazing Race” party.
