Previously on The Amazing Race...

8 teams raced from Norway to Poland. Marie gave the 2nd EP to Nicole & Travis. After a rough start, Tim & Marie used their EP. Tim & Danny stumbled at the detour and used their U-Turn on Leo & Jamal. Afghanimals U-Turned Brandon & Adam. In a photo finish, Tim & Marie came out on top. Brandon & Adam were eliminated.

7 teams remain... who will be eliminated next? Tim: "You look hot!"

Tim & Marie depart 1st at 8:33 AM. Take the train to Vienna, Austria. Teams will travel by rail to Vienna. Once there, proceed to the Opera House and find someone who will lead them to the costume department where they will get their next clue. Tim & Marie were happy with how they used the EP. Tim & Marie wait for Jason & Amy, who depart at 8:34 AM. Nicole & Travis depart at 8:35 AM.

Nicky & Kim depart at 8:48 PM. It wasn't a super physical leg, so they were okay. Tim & Danny depart at 8:51 AM. lol Tim with a butt censor.

First train gets into Vienna at 6:40 AM.

Leo & Jamal depart at 10:10 AM. Ally & Ashley depart last at 10:18 AM. They hope that they can make it to the end and surprise the heck out of everyone.

Iceghanimals are the only ones who aren't on the first train. They will catch the first train in Warsaw.

Post by: RachelLeVega on November 03, 2013, 08:11:00 PM
The Fast Forward looks so easy... Jon can do it. ;)

Post by: Mister RC on November 03, 2013, 08:11:48 PM
Travis & Nicole opting out of Fast Forward. Smart play
Title: Re: TAR 23 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Note TIME CHANGE**
Post by: Polaroid on November 03, 2013, 08:12:17 PM
Iceghanimals catch all the other teams in Warsaw. Tim & Marie question Afghanimals about U-Turning Brandon & Adam... Marie doesn't believe them. Nobody really believes that Afghanimals didn't use their U-Turn.

And now teams are running off the train. Jason & Amy get the first taxi. Lots of stairs to go up... Basically all the teams are together. Detour and fast forward.

Light Brigade: Set up an elaborate chandelier. If they don't get it on their first try, they basically fail the detour.
Masquerade: Wear masks and join a ballroom. Teams will have to match their masks with other masks.

Fast forward: Proceed to Donauturm. It is weather-dependent. Jason & Amy and Nicole & Travis both want to do it... Jason & Amy get a taxi before Nicole & Travis. It's breezy.

Tim/Danny hurts his ankle. Nicole & Travis decide to do the detour instead of the FF.

Having your first place come from a Fast Forward is nice. It is much better to win without one, so I'll disagree with Jason and Amy here
Title: Re: TAR 23 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Note TIME CHANGE**
Post by: Polaroid on November 03, 2013, 08:14:14 PM
Afghanimals fail their first try at the mask. Very subtle differences. Nicky & Kim and Tim & Marie are doing masks too.

Jason & Amy are at the Fast Forward... Teams will have to make a 500 ft bungee jump. This is a pretty easy fast forward... Jason & Amy reach the top and they're told that it's too windy to jump. It's too dangerous... The guy there says it might be better in 10-15 mins... Jason doesn't want to wait. Amy wants to wait for it to stop being windy. They don't know what to do...

Commercial.

Is it just me or does this Leg so far remind you of TAR4?
-Masquerade Roadblock (now Detour) where Amanda & Chris and Monica & Sherre began their foot race for last in Venice
-Donauturm bungee jump "Switchback" from the TAR4 Roadblock

No mention on the number of fast forward (be it first of two or the only one)
Title: Re: TAR 23 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Note TIME CHANGE**
Post by: Polaroid on November 03, 2013, 08:20:08 PM
And we're back. Jason doesn't want to wait... Amy wants to wait... Jason decides to wait even though he thinks it's dumb.

Nicole & Travis arrive at mask. Nicole matches Travis' mask. Ally & Ashley arrive at mask too. Marie matches Tim's mask. Tim matches Marie's mask. Tim & Marie are done the detour in 1st. Proceed to Wiener Sängerknaben.

Nicky & Kim finish the detour in 2nd. Leo & Jamal finish in 3rd. Ally & Ashley finish in 4th.

Is this detour supposed to be more challenging or what.

Tim & Marie are having trouble getting a cab. Back at the fast forward, it's still really windy. They go back to the detour.

Post by: Vitoko on November 03, 2013, 08:21:06 PM
I kinda liking the masquerade detour because is the right amount of luck and skill mixed together...

Finally Jason&Amy left the FF place... to do the detour...

Technically teams could go try it after in the leg right?
Title: Re: TAR 23 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Note TIME CHANGE**
Post by: Mister RC on November 03, 2013, 08:21:23 PM
That was not a kind Fast Forward
Title: Re: TAR 23 East Coast EP 6 SHOW updates and commentary **Note TIME CHANGE**
Post by: Polaroid on November 03, 2013, 08:24:07 PM
Tim & Danny finish the detour in 5th. Tim & Marie still can't get a taxi. Nicole & Travis finish the detour in 6th. Tim & Danny and Nicole & Travis get cabs... TIM & MARIE FINALLY GET A CAB.

Jason & Amy arrive at the ballroom. They didn't see anyone at the detour so they know they're last.

Afghanimals get the roadblock clue first. Teams will have to join the Vienna boys choir and sing Die Forelle. They will be judged on the pronunciation of the German words and musicality.

Teams get to pick an instructor to help. Ally or Ashley is really bad at speaking other languages. Nicky & Kim arrive at the roadblock. "She's like Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend's Wedding. She literally can't sing." :funny: Tim & Danny and Nicole & Travis arrive at the roadblock.

Tim says he can't even sing music in English, lol. Travis isn't actually that bad.

Jason & Amy finish the detour in last. They're heading off to the roadblock.

Tim & Marie arrive at the roadblock. Tim is doing the roadblock. Tim is having trouble with the words. Jason & Amy have caught up to everyone at the roadblock. Amy is doing the roadblock. Good choice.

Amy and Travis seem to be doing well.

Travis is the first to try. The conductor tells Travis to stop. Travis can't hit some of the high notes. Jamal tries. Uhm, there's a lot of laughter everywhere. Ashley laughs. Ally starts ahead of the music... First word. She gets rejected too.

Tim (of Tim & Danny)'s instructor is hilarious. "Try to imagine you are Justin Timberlake. How would an opera singer sing?" "Sing like your child!" :funny:

Marie says Tim could do it because of his weird memory. Tim is rejected too. Marie says he has made it further than anyone else so far.

Nicky or Kim is rejected too.

Travis is going to try again. He's singing an octave lower so he can hit the higher notes. Wow. He's actually made it to where the choir is singing LOL. "It was pretty good." Nicole & Travis are out of the roadblock in 1st. Proceed to Schonbrunn Palace. Search a maze for their palace.

Nicky & Kim are out of the roadblock in 2nd. "It was acceptable." Nicky & Kim see a taxi with Jason & Amy's bag... Jason & Amy's taxi driver takes out their bags... But Nicky & Kim decide they don't want to mess with that.

Oh poor Tim (of Tim & Danny)... He is told he is terrible. He kind of is.

Jamal tries again. He gives an intense last note. Leo can't stop laughing. They're done the roadblock in 3rd.

Marie & Tim finish the detour in 4th. Marie: "Alright, let's go steal someone's cab." Tim & Marie take Jason & Amy's cab. Tim doesn't seem to like this. Marie says they're going to say that the Afghanimals took Jason & Amy's cab.

Commercial.

And we're back with Tim & Marie taking Jason & Amy's cab. Jason & Amy's taxi driver realizes he took the wrong team... Marie tells them that they're all blue and shows him their route info clue.

Amy is done the roadblock in 5th. Jason & Amy see their bags... And they realize their cab driver left. Amy thinks that someone took their taxi... Amy says she will flip out. FIERCE AMY.

Nicole & Travis arrive at the maze first. They have to go through the maze. This looks really fun. Nicky & Kim arrive at the maze too. LOL NICKY & KIM GET THE CLUE FIRST. Proceed to the pit stop! Pit Stop: The Gloriette

OMG IF NICKY & KIM GET 1ST, THIS WILL BE GREAT. Nicole & Travis finish the maze too. Afghanimals arrive at the maze.

Nicole & Travis get directions and it's just up a hill. Nicky & Kim ask their cab driver... And they're told it's up a hill... Afghanimals get their clue to the pit stop.

EW. Nicole & Travis are team #1. They've won a trip for 2 to... where.

Pit stop:
1st - Nicole & Travis

Nicky & Kim are team #2. Leo & Jamal are team #3.

Pit stop:
1st - Nicole & Travis
2nd - Nicky & Kim
3rd - Leo & Jamal

Back at the roadblock, Ally fails her 2nd attempt. Tim is still having trouble.

Tim & Marie arrive at the maze. Tim jumps to try to see over the maze. Marie asks little kids for directions and they actually help! Marie: "I LOVE LITTLE KIDS."

Jason & Amy arrive at the palace... Jason sees their old cab driver and he looks in the car to see the bags... And Jason & Amy realize it's Tim & Marie's bags.

Amy is really pissed. Amy says she is going to kill Tim & Marie.

Tim & Marie are on the mat... Jason & Amy are now on the mat too.

Phil: "You guys snuck up on us."
Jason: "Sneaky is a good word, Phil."

Commercial.

Tim & Marie are team #4. Jason & Amy are team #5. Jason & Amy are not happy with Tim & Marie. Marie says that their bags weren't in the cab. Marie says that Jason & Amy wouldn't have known what they would have done. Jason & Amy say they wouldn't have stolen a cab. It goes back and forth. Jason says that they went to the FF and came back and they're still in this so they're going to kick their ass. And now it's just silence. Wow awkward.

Pit stop:
1st - Nicole & Travis
2nd - Nicky & Kim
3rd - Leo & Jamal
4th - Tim & Marie
5th - Jason & Amy

Ally and Tim are still struggling at the roadblock. They're getting stopped a lot...

Ally finishes the song... And she is told it's acceptable! They're out of the roadblock in 6th. Tim apologizes to Danny. Danny says he wouldn't have done better. Ally & Ashley are trying to get a taxi.

Danny finishes the song... And he gets the clue. I bet it was a pity thing because he can't really sing... :-[ "I can't sing... I can't dance..." "But we can race."

Ally & Ashley get a cab. They're at the palace. Tim & Danny arrive at the palace... Ice girls are in the maze... They get the clue...

Tim & Danny see the girls... They're in the maze now...

Ally/Ashley: "DAMMIT PHIL. WHY DO YOU PICK HILLS."

Tim & Danny get their clue... They're running up the hill...

But Ally & Ashley get there first. They're team #6.

Pit stop:
1st - Nicole & Travis
2nd - Nicky & Kim

4th - Tim & Marie
5th - Jason & Amy
6th - Ally & Ashley

Tim & Danny are the last team to arrive... and they've been eliminated. They're super thankful that they've gotten to travel the world because they've never been out of the country before.

Pit stop:
1st - Nicole & Travis
2nd - Nicky & Kim
3rd - Leo & Jamal
4th - Tim & Marie
5th - Jason & Amy
6th - Ally & Ashley
7th - Tim & Danny (ELIMINATED)

Tim & Danny are nice to each others.

Next time Marie vs. Tim :))

Sad to see Tim & Danny go. I was rooting for them to beat the blondes but the fake suspense told me otherwise.

I totally had a nostalgia fit when I saw the FF task! Then I nerded out when I saw the Choir Roadblock. Since I've been in choir since 4th grade, I totally understand how hard it is to sing in German! I though the leg was very well designed as well!

On a sadder note, Tim & Danny's elimination + me =  :tantrum

The detour task with the masks, the first fast forward that was explicitly "weather dependent", and the roadblock were among the best tasks I've seen on the show in a long time, and they were all on the same leg. Not to mention trains, and the almost rule violation with Jason and Amy and Tim and Marie, and the team that actually removed the bags from the taxi (and they're the ones who should be getting a penalty, but from the way it's edited, it doesn't look like that will happen.

I would have aced that roadblock as when I was jn junior and senior high school, I was in chorus, and I studied German in high school and college, although I haven't done either since. And I can still read German aloud without an accent; which some of the Racers were having trouble with in singing.

No one removed the bags but the taxi driver. They even did not tell the taxi driver to do that so no one should get penalty.

Leg 6 (Poland --> Austria) Analysis:
I'd like to start off saying this was a better episode than the previous one in Poland despite the clustering of teams for 70% of the Leg. The tasks overall were really good and hilarious. I'm still kind of disappointed nobody got to do the Donauturm Fast Forward (TAR4 Roadblock "Switchback"). However, we got a mini-Switchback with the hedge maze originating back from TAR10 in Barcelona, Spain.

DETOUR: Chandelier or Masquerade
This Detour wasn't really an even playing field. While the chandeliers required meticulousness and dexterity, teams would have had to start ALL OVER if one piece of glass is fixtured improperly. Didn't like how nobody chose that task. For the masquerade, teams could try all they want to find their correct duo and not receive a different mask like what TAR4 did in its Venetian ballroom Roadblock. It did bring out the best or worst in teams.
DETOUR SCORE: 5/10

FAST FORWARD: Donauturm Bungee Jump AKA TAR4 "Switchback"
Shameful how the plant-crashing winds didn't let Jason & Amy do the Fast Forward, but it did create some good decision making like in TAR14 if teams should walk or wait for the paraglide.
FAST FORWARD SCORE: 9/10

ROADBLOCK: Sing like the Viennese Boys' Choir
This task will remain the symbol of TAR23 for years and beyond! :funny: It brought out the silly of Tim (Team Oklahoma) and Ally doing the task more than three times to get it to the pianist's satisfaction. Jamal's first try made me cry and laugh on the floor :rotf: Nonetheless, the pronunciation of Austrian words are tough and I really do give a ton of respect for their tryings.
ROADBLOCK SCORE: 11/10

OTHER RANDOM SCORES:
LEG DIFFICULTY: 7/10
TRAVEL DRAMA: 8/10
MARIE-BEING-A-KICKA$$-Bit¢h: 20/10 :snics:
EDITING: 8/10
CLASSIC, ADVENTUROUS RACE MUSIC: 3/10

I want to hear Tim (Okla) practicing and singing again & again. It's terrible but it is funny and he was so cute. All the teachers are so friendly, kind and supportive, especially Tim's one.

Poor Bunnies missing a first place :(

Marie <333333333
Jason & Amy <33333333

Though, I think that it's hilarious that Jason & Amy thought Marie WOULDN'T do something like that.

It's likely just me, but I never understand the logic of removing luggage from one's taxi, only to stick around for whatever reason afterward

I expect a bigger fight than that between Jamy and Pinky.  :)

The Detour is so-so but the RoadBlock is really good. The Bunnies continue doing a great job and their faces in the preview are priceless. :))

Really sad that Okla boys went home.

Not a really good episode, considering the Detour was kind of "manufactured" and just really easy (Tim and Marie finished in 3 mins!) and nobody did the other side.

The whole episode seemed to come down to who can sing better and I think this has been the first time in many seasons we see a task which determined the fate of the teams in the race. So now, if you want to join the race, not only do you have to take part in dance lessons before competing, you also have to go for singing lessons.

The stars of this episode = Nicky and Kim again. Oh my God. To those who have criticised them as being useless racers on this season... time to take back your words.

Glad that Travis and Nicole won the leg, because to be honest, Travis honestly sang and performed the best.

Ally and Ashley... barely survived, sending Tim and Danny home. I like both teams... but then again both teams have been really mediocre this season so they really deserve to go.

Hope that next week will deliver again!

Nicky & Kim did great this leg but no way they are the star of this leg with that little screen time. The star of this leg is Tim <3

But I'll still be watching later. :)

Oklahoma is out!
My first pick to win got a BIG FAT 7th...

The leg was fine. It wasn't as good as Gdansk, but it was definitely better than Chile
well except for the Roadblock. I didn't really get why put a singing task in TAR. It was weird.
I can't explain why but I just didn't think singing is appropriate for amazing race
and the song...was in German..  the leg was in freakin' Austria ...

Nicky and Kim lost the first place, again!  :(

And about the whole Jamy-Marie situation, I actually found it really interesting.
We can't really blame Marie. Technically the cab WAS up for grabs.
I would have done the same thing, if finding a cab was so hard
But at the same time it was pretty evil what she did. The street was quite crowded looks like it wasn't that hard to find a cab

And I understand that Jamy felt betrayed and pissed
But they should have told the driver not to remove their bags from the cab.
I mean why the heck did the driver suddenly just remove the bags?
Because of Nicky and Kim?
It doesn't make any sense

I found it a bit funny when the driver said "wait, you're not my team"
Tim : "No no no, we are"
Marie : "Yeah yeah yeah, see this! [showing the clue] It's BLUE it's BLUE! See, BLUE!"
 :funny:

This could be a lesson to Jamy to not wear blue all the time  :)

In the end
I decided to support both teams
Since one of my pick got eliminated  :(

And this leg has recycled a few places visited by TAR 4 before... so it's really, just meh.

The pit-stop is the location of the Fast Forward in Amazing Race 4 LEG 3, where Steve and Josh are required to search the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace for a ballroom wearing formal attire, then carry a tray of champagne filled glasses through waltzing couples. (and did they just use waltzing couples for the Detour?)

The fast forward here, is the Roadblock of Amazing Race 4 LEG 3, where one team member had to bungee jump 460 feet (140 m) off the Donauturm.

 :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

The leg wasn't as great as the other 3 European legs. :(

So sad to see Jamy losing another 1st place. :( They would've won the leg if they won the ff :pity or if they didn't attempt it at all. Seeing Amy finish the rb in her 1st attempt makes me think that they would've won the leg.

Marie showed a lot of her evilness for the 1st half of the race. :funny: It somehow makes me think that she doesn't feel like going back to TAR 24 because of this fame/infamy. ???

Ice girls got 6th place, if not 7th. That's all they've been getting for the 1st half of the race. :funny:

:pity Nicky & Kim almost winning the leg. :( They'd prob'ly be out soon. :( I wish they'd win a leg, at least one.

Detour was :tantrum unequal :groan: , completely unequal! :gaah:

The roadblock was... pretty good. :)

Checking Wikipedia - TAR4, I saw the names of few places being recycled. I already forgot TAR4 but I watched it back then. ??? How I wish I have time to watch it... and the link. (Where do I get it? ??? )

I guess with it being the Tenth Annivesary of TAR4 (and then some), it would be fitting to pay tribute to that season.  Similar to Season 9, it was an underrated season but such a memorable one (originally was treated at the show's series finale, IIRC).

Having said that, while the show recycled from a past season, it was worth it due to the tasks themselves, the teams performing them, and how well or awful they did.[

Vienna looks great, but i think leg 4 was better than this one. the detour seemed too easy and nobody chose the other detour.
Nicky and Kim almost finished in first again. Damn... i really want them to win at least one leg before they eliminated  :(

I don't care that they used some old tasks as long as it still brings many great moment. And I love Singing test. I don't why many said that's unfair task. You can see Tim was still bad in the end but he got the melody, pitch, notes and lyrics. That's enough to get the clue.

Yeah, and I have a better voice than Tim, although I would hardly call mine great!  What's more, I think I have a better sense of melody and pitch than Tim did, and since I have a great memory and minored in Spanish in college, I think I could have gotten the pronunciation of the lyrics down quickly enough!  I'd have done the task, partly because I love being in the spotlight, partly because I think I could have done a decent job with the task.

The task was unfair enough for Tim to fall all the way back in last place before he finally got the clue, duh.

I mean, his voice really suck. But some people are naturally tone deaf/can't sing and that's why it's unfair? What if you have two tone deaf people in a team and your favourite team gets eliminated... just because they can't sing. Lame, no?

That's why It is a Roadblock where you need to choose only one people to do that. Why did not Danny do that if Tim was terrible with singing? I think with the clue Choir boy in heart, they definitely could think the task related to the choir, singing...

I think it's because they want to split the amount of Roadblocks they did. As far as I remember, before the choir Roadblock, Danny has done 4, while Tim 2. So, like it or not, Tim must do this Roadblock. But, actually Danny still can do this one, just like Travis (and Travis & Nicole's Roadblock's split is now 5-2).

What intrigues me is why they put a footage of Tim & Danny at the end of their confessional? Is it now become a tradition for 7th placer (Pam & Winnie received the same thing last season) or does it mean the producer likes them and they want to bring Tim & Danny back? I hope the latter :p

I really don't have any complaints about this season so far, it's actually really decent, especially considering the lack of excitement in the most recent seasons (post UB). The only thing that just frustrates me so much is the soundtrack. Whatever happened to the editors of TAR17?! I swear ever since TAR18 the soundtrack has been flat and boring as hell. Take a look at TAR Canada and TAR Australia which always seemed to have upbeat music and keep the race feeling like an actual RACE. PLEASE editors for future seasons, is it that hard to change a song? Seriously!

On the mask task -- when the mask roadblock came up in Venice in season 4, it was regarded as the most difficult roadblock ever to that point. (And all the teams struggled with it). This version as a detour task seemed to combine to waltz dancing fast forward in the sense that the Racers had to work around the dancers to find the right masks, and the masks themselves were far more difficult and thus harder to match up. I don't think it was an easy task at all. The chandelier one probably wasn't chosen because the teams probably reasoned that it would be difficult to complete because of the requirement that teams would have to start over if any chandelier wasn't assembled correctly or fell to the ground before completing the attempt.
For the same reason I felt the singing task wasn't any less difficult than the piano tasks that had been done with a couple of variations in past seasons, or the other singing tasks that have shown up in different seasons as well.
I'm not sure that knowing a romance language (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese) would have been as helpful because German is used in opera and there are no soft sounds in German as they are in the Romance languages whether spoken or sung. When I was in a chorus in junior and senior high school years ago we did have to learn and perform a few songs that were in German, and for most people it was harder. But it helps to have studied German at the time, and so I could evaluate that task with experience. I'm not surprised some teams had more trouble with that task than others, and people who couldn't sing, and who weren't familiar with languages other than English could expect problems, especially with certain US dialects.

I sang German in school choir and the pronunciation really is quite different in some cases from what one would expect, making it difficult. (Knowing German has made the pronunciation a million times easier now.)

From my experience, German is extremely difficult to pronounce by those who speak Romance languages, but it is particularly difficult for English speakers. I met an American who majored in German studies and he still struggled to drop his Minnesota accent.
