Tim and Danny

Name: Tim Wiyninger
Age:
26
Hometown: Cordell, Okla.
Connection to your teammate: Best Friend
Current occupation: Oilfield Plant Operator
Describe what you do: As a bulk plant operator, I load bulk chemicals onto trucks that go out to location. Also, with as many crews that we run, I have to forecast on how much chemicals need to be ordered to start and finish a job.
3 words to describe you: Happy, funny and outgoing.
Favorite hobbies: Golf, attending sporting events and road trips.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? The birth of my son and being able to provide for my family.
What famous person reminds you of yourself? Will Ferrell, because he’s funny, kind-hearted and loves everyone.
What famous person reminds you of your teammate? Owen Wilson, because he’s funny and a ladies man.
What scares you most about traveling? Seeing people in other countries who are less fortunate and not being able to help.
What excites you most about traveling? Going to places I have never been before and making new memories with people I love.
Biggest challenge you and your teammate will face on The Race together: We always believe that neither of us are wrong. Instead of listening to his argument, I just tell him my points. I hope I can be a better listener so I can respond to his points rather than hearing what I want to hear.
Pet peeve about your teammate: He spends too much time in front of the mirror.
What country and place would you most like to visit and why? I would like to go to Australia. It would be amazing to visit the outback and see animals in their natural habitats.
What do you hope to accomplish by running The Race (other than winning one million bucks)? I have never been overseas. Being able to travel the world and to see new things that I never thought would be possible.

Name: Daniel “Danny” Merkey
Age:
25
Hometown: Cordell, Okla.
Connection to your teammate: Best Friend
Current occupation: Oil Field Operator
Describe what you do: In the bulk plant my job is to blend various cements for oil rigs in the field. I also have to keep track and maintain any and all cements and additives used in the blending.
3 words to describe you: Cute, funny and brave.
Favorite hobbies: Fishing, golfing and Thunder Basketball.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? The birth of my daughter. A close second is taking 3rd in state in wrestling with a torn ACL.
What famous person reminds you of yourself? Mark Wahlberg - tough and gritty but also hilarious.
What famous person reminds you of your teammate? Vince Vaughan – he is a fast talking ladies’ man but has a big heart.
What scares you most about traveling? I love traveling for the most part. I’m not a big fan of the ocean. Just something about not knowing what’s out there makes me nervous.
What excites you most about traveling? Seeing new cultures, sites and learning about different ways of life.
Biggest challenge you and your teammate will face on The Race together: Tim and I are both very headstrong and sometimes argue about the simplest things to prove the other wrong. To win we will have to put that aside at times and trust each other.
Pet peeve about your teammate: His dirty car. When we go to lunch we never take his car because I can’t fit in the passenger seat with all the junk.
What country and place would you most like to visit and why? I have always wanted to see Rome with all the history and culture it has to offer.
What do you hope to accomplish by running The Race (other than winning one million bucks)? This is a once in a lifetime chance to see the world and make new friends.

I like these two, and they do seem to be people I could relate to. They will probably be the team that will be wide-eyed when they get to a country that is completely out of their element. Even though they don't seem to bring too many skills to the Race, hopefully they can prove to be dark horses and surprise the other teams.

<3 PLEASE COME TO AUSTRALIA ON YOUR OWN. IT'S AN AMAZING PLACE. :colors :funny:

With that said... I think this team lacks identity? I think it will take me a really long time to remember their names. =/

Why have they had such a poor edit?

Maybe they are too normal and quiet?... in detours or individual task they are usually shown starting, finishing, and then as background.

-that they didn't get U-turned in the following leg
-that they survived in the following leg
-all those struggling in the preview was meant to mislead us

What makes them appealing is that they just seem to act natural. They don't like they're trying too hard. I'm not saying the cowboys or Kentucky try hard.

i think they're just trying to enjoy the experience, which is good.  :<3
and they could really use the money, which is why I adore them so much and want them to win... even just a leg ... :hrt:

but it gets ass-animals to also use theirs

so I am happy <3

I get so annoyed everytime a U-Turn comes and everybody's like "we're not uturning anyody"...... LIKE, IT'S A TOOL OF THE GAME! You should use it to get a strong team (or your enemies) out! It would've also been interesting if Tim & Marie uturned Nicole & Travis, who would then probably use their EP :D

Well, there's just 2 F/F teams this season, while we have 5 M/M :P Actually I liked Chester and Ephraim more for the 3 legs that they were in.

What is a flashback that you're talking about?! o.O

It's that moment after Phil told a team they were eliminated,  they had a short black-and-white clip showing some of their "moments" during the race. Tim and Danny were the first one to get that this season

Last season Pam and Winnie got it first in Botswana #2. And later in Belfast leg, Caroline and Jennifer got it too, after Phil told them they were eliminated

Elimination Interview: Danny and Tim

Posted on Nov 4, 2013 02:10pm

Read what Danny and Tim had to say about their time in the Race and what their favorite moments were!

Kira R: I was sad to see you leave and was hoping it was a non elimination race. However, of the countries you did get to visit, which did you enjoy the most and what game did you find the most fun/most challenging?
Tim:
My favorite country was Portugal. It was beautiful! All the buildings looking down to the city was amazing. It looked like a painting. The toughest challenge for me was the signing challenge. I can't sing in English and I can't speak German so that was just not good. My favorite was jumping off the cliff in Chile. Paragliding over the city and just taking it all in was amazing. Something I have never done and will probably never do again.
Danny: The hardest thing for me was the dancing. I don't dance and I sure don't dance in a dress. That was not much fun. Portugal was also my favorite country. It was so beautiful and everyone was so nice. My favorite challenge was in Portugal... the knight challenge. When we shot the huge crossbows. That was pretty fun even though it was really hot outside.

Marian K: What in the race would you gladly do again and what would you not do? Sorry to see you go because of such a challenge.
Tim:
If I could redo it I would want to do everything again. It was all so amazing. If I do have to say something I do not want to do again it is dance with Danny. He gets a little bit of a temper when he is wearing that dress.
Danny: I would like to do it all again as well. If we could have traded some of the challenges like Tim would have shined the guys shoes and I could have jumped off the cliff that would be great. I would have enjoyed bungee jumping into the water and paragliding as well.

Tanya M: What was the most amazing moment so far? Would you change anything?
Tim:
The most amazing part is whenever you are lined up on the starting line for the first time. All the adrenaline pumping through your veins is amazing. Not very many people get to do that.

Jessica N: What was your first thought after you know that you have to sing a song in another language that you don't even understand a word?
Tim:
I wish Marie would have given me the express pass.

Cedie D: What is the important lesson have you learned by joining Amazing Race?
Tim and Danny:
Never give up and don't take anything for granted. We only made it halfway around the world but we wouldn't trade it for anything except for maybe a million dollars.

Marie B: Who are you rooting for to win this season?
Tim:
Danny and I bonded with all the teams on the first airplane. So I'm rooting for Jay and Amy, but I also think it would be pretty cool to see the Afghanimals win because everyone is against them.
Danny: I agree with Tim on the Afghanimals. In Oklahoma we always root for the underdogs. I also really bonded with Travis and Nicole. They are just really down to earth people.

The Amazing Race 23: Exclusive Interview with Tim Wiyninger and Danny Merkey

Posted on 11/06/2013 by Gina in The Amazing Race and Cast Interviews

by Gina Scarpa

Best friends Tim Wiyninger and Danny Merkey got the adventure of a lifetime when they were cast this season on The Amazing Race. The Oklahoma boys had very little travel experience, had never been out of the country, and suddenly found themselves in Chile, Portgual, Norway, Poland, and Austria. Austria, though, ended up being the end of the road for the pair after a very tough Road Block. We chatted with them today about their experience, whether or not they would've taken a cab from another team, and if they'd gear up to race again.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Who was the one who really pushed the other to try out for The Amazing Race?
A. Tim: It was a mutual thing. We were at work and we were always talking about what we could do to win a game show. The Amazing Race seemed perfect for us.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Given that you two haven't traveled really, and haven't been out of the country, what was it like to be on the race?
A. Tim: For me, it was exciting! It was something new to experience. I don't really stress that easily, to be honest. It was great. The main thing when you're traveling is just the language barrier. If you can get by, it's all good.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: That Vienna Boys Choir challenge this week looked like one of the toughest in recent memory. What were you feeling, going into it?
A. Danny: I think that challenge was rough! Everybody struggled with it to some extent. There were people there with musical backgrounds... a lot more musically inclined than Tim or I. It's something you'd never think of to work on.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Tim, it took you a long time to finish that Road Block. Were you starting to panic as more teams finished and left?
A. Tim: I think it was more stressful for Danny than me. I'm downstairs and didn't really know what was going on. Were you pretty stressed out, Dan?
A. Danny: Yeah, I was pretty stressed! We were the third of the fourth team there and Tim goes to pick a teacher and work on his singing. I see team after team come in. I think a couple teams were on their second or third try before Tim came up the first time.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: There was talk by the fans this week about Tim and Marie stealing Jason and Amy's cab. If you were in their position, would you have taken the cab?
A. Tim: Everybody sees us as really nice guys but the cab was fair game. I would've done the same thing! They're in it to win it!
A. Danny: I would've talked him out of it if there was another cab there. If it was the only cab...
A. Tim: It wasn't easy to get a cab in Vienna!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The news must have been tough to take from Phil that you were eliminated.
A. Danny: When you first hear you're eliminated, it's gut wrenching. It didn't feel good. Looking back, it was a great experience and we feel like we won just by getting to compete this season.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: I assume you'd go back in a heartbeat if you were asked to compete again?
A. Tim: Absolutely!
A. Danny: Half a heartbeat!
