For what it's worth, Ben Mulroney (@BenMulroney1976) has been tweeting today, so I think it's unlikely he's the host.

Jon Montgomery (@jrmonty12) hasn't tweeted in a few days.

OK. I was just investigating the leading candidates around here. The only picture I saw of the host was low resolution and off color. I tried to blow it up and lighten it and couldn't tell much more. It almost looked red to me and he might have a stubbly beard. That could match Jon Montgomery, but I question if they would have a host with limited TV experience. I'm not Canadian though and i don't know what Jon might have done in the past.

From witnessing the 24/7 coverage of the Olympics in 2010, I can tell Montgomery was a natural in front of the camera. He has been interviewed hundreds of times so that might give him some experience.

So it has started? Not near as exciting as TAR USA. But if they are coming to Vancouver, I will keep my eyes open.

That distant picture of the host definitely could be John Montgomery and I think that would be a great choice for the show.

And team 'Body Break'? that is kind of a let down.

I thought this was interesting:
http://www.vancourier.com/news/Amazing+timing+Vancouver/8345210/story.html (http://www.vancourier.com/news/Amazing+timing+Vancouver/8345210/story.html)

The Courier discovered unusual visitors to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden Monday when the upcoming Amazing Race Canada used the site as a stop for its competing teams. Eight teams are in the race, currently being taped across Canada for its debut this summer on television.

If this brief article is correct, then one team would've been eliminated prior to the Vancouver leg.

Hot damn I'm excited. I live in Quebec City, I'm not willing to camp out at the airport or anything but I'll be on the lookout for teams running through the Old Town! The Canadian version probably won't hold a candle to the original one we know and love, mostly because of budget and location restrictions, but spotting racers has been a long-time goal of mine, and certainly TAR Canada would be a nice start!

Speculation...

What would The Amazing Race Canada be without a trip to Canada's arctic?

I'm thinking Yellowknife or Whitehorse - both Air Canada destinations.
Or would they make them drive and show off the impressive rough road capabilities of the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban or Avalanche?
The Mackenzie Hwy is spectacular... as is the driving to Whitehorse in the Yukon.

Yay to Toronto being visited!

Amazing Race Canada will likely rappel from Toronto City Hall rooftop

A proposal moving through Toronto City Hall right now could be giving away a future challenge for contestants on The Amazing Race Canada.

The agenda item has been deemed urgent and asks the city to give permission to Insight Productions to allow three people on a television show to rappel down the side of Toronto’s city hall.

“The Facilities and Management Division has received an application from Insight Productions to film an episode of a television show at City Hall on Friday, May 24, 2013,” the document reads.

“One of the main activities consists of three participants rappelling over the west tower roof onto the podium green roof of City Hall.”

Insight Productions is the production company responsible for The Amazing Race Canada, Big Brother Canada, Battle of the Blades, the Juno Awards and the upcoming series Never Do This At Home.

But the document is marked “urgent” and notes that filming will occur at the end of the month, pending completion of the appropriate paperwork. This narrows down the list of possibilities considerably, pointing squarely at The Amazing Race Canada, which is currently filming in Western Canada.

The motion currently before Toronto City Council recommends adoption the recommendations from the Chief Corporate Officer, who approves of the license. That document is here:

Source and document:http://o.canada.com/2013/05/08/amazing-race-canada-will-likely-rappel-from-toronto-city-hall-rooftop/

Also Insight Productions will provide the City of Toronto with $10,000,000.00 liability insurance and WSIB coverage.  :o

We normally wouldn't post this before it happens - but the info is being re-tweeted by literally hundreds of people.
If they don't want a mob scene day of, it might be a good idea to arrange for lots of extra security.

Looks like they'll be driving Chevrolet Orlandos while in Yellowknife:
http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles/chevrolet/orlando/overview

Love the report on highway conditions near Yellowknife... hope we see some Bison.

HIGHWAY 3 (Yellowknife Highway)
Drive at a speed appropriate for the road conditions. Be prepared to stop with little or no notice.
Bison can be found along Highway 3 from the Mackenzie River to within 30 km. of Yellowknife. The largest concentration of bison is within 70 kilometres either side of Behchoko. Most bison collisions occur after dusk or in snowy conditions. Drive at a speed appropriate for the weather and road conditions, prepared to stop with little or no notice. Do NOT overdrive your headlights - driving at more than the speed limit, even in good driving conditions, makes it almost certain you will be unable to see a bison with your headlights at night in time to avoid a collision.

Katie Uhlaender ‏who is a member of the USA national skeleton team tweeted the following to our believed host Jon Montgomery:

"@jrmonty12 miss your #humour here at the #azcamp!"

Montogomery tweeted back 18hr ago

@KatieU11 not gonna lie, I miss the weather and the training group too!

This indicates he is doing something else atm.

Another tweet in response to tweet#2 from Charles Wlodarczak who is a member of the Canadian skeleton team:

@jrmonty12 at least you can be thankful yyc is now giving some acceptable training weather

yyc = Calgary Airport

This indicates Montgomery was in Calgary around that time (and TarCanada was as well).

Since they are using Air Canada for all their flights, I wonder if they are using the Latin American version of the Amazing Race, where they all take the same flight, but you sign in with your arrival time and then have to wait at the next airport the amount of time you arrived after the first team.

There are no direct flights to Regina from Vancouver tonight.

I have information that is enough to know that one of the tasks in Regina is expected to take place sometime around noon, or thereabouts. I hesitate to divulge where or what until it's happening to avoid completely spoiling Regina any more than it already is. Just trust me.

The teams will have to fly either through Edmonton or Calgary to get to Regina.

If by Edmonton, they have the following options from Vancouver:
17:05   Air Canada   AC244   Edmonton (YEG)  Arrival 19:34
20:10   Air Canada   AC246   Edmonton (YEG)  Arrival 22:40
21:20   Air Canada   AC248   Edmonton (YEG)  Arrival 23:49
23:10   Air Canada   AC252   Edmonton (YEG)  Arrival 01:39

However, no matter which flight they take to Edmonton, they are there over night. Next available flight to Regina:
May-13   Air Canada   8470    Regina     06:05   Arrival 07:43

If by Calgary, the following options are available from Vancouver:
17:00   Air Canada   AC222   Calgary (YYC)  Arrival 19:25
18:00   Air Canada   AC224   Calgary (YYC)  Arrival 20:25
19:30   Air Canada   AC226   Calgary (YYC)  Arrival 21:56
21:30   Air Canada   AC228   Calgary (YYC)  Arrival 23:56
23:10   Air Canada   AC230   Calgary (YYC)  Arrival 01:35

They will miss the 19:00 flight to Regina. Next flight from Calgary to Regina is:
AC8430    Regina   A14    07:00   Arrival 08:25

There is, however, one more distinct possibility that ties into the task that is not expected to be visited until around noon.

From Calgary:
AC8592    Saskatoon   A27    23:30  Arrival 12:35

From Vancouver:
20:45   Air Canada   AC8576   Saskatoon (YXE)   Arrival 23:40

Perfect time to have an Hours of Operation stayover, and to have the teams drive from Saskatoon to Regina (2.5 hours roughly). Just in time to be expected at the task. Though this last bit is complete pure and utter speculation. And possibly wishful thinking on my part that they would be here in Saskatoon. But at least I can eliminate this particular avenue of speculation myself in a few hours. Plus, there are two places I can think of that an hours of operation would make sense. I won't name them here, but they are both immensely important in regards to the history of the area, and the history of Canada. One is just outside Saskatoon, the other is about an hours drive.

As a side note. I kinda went through this with the idea that teams are wanting the FASTEST flights with the shortest layovers possible. It's why I left out any flights arriving in Saskatoon tomorrow morning (beyond direct interference by producers telling teams which flights they cannot take, there is no reason why, if they have to go to Saskatoon first, they won't take one of those two available flights).

this is so lame. they are only going to travel within canada. it takes away the most amazing element of the show, that is, in my opinion, people who have never travelled outside of their own country to experience different culture, having that culture shock, language barrier, etc.

this is going to be one hottible show. :nopoints

Oops! Scooped by the master!

There are several tweets inviting people to show up at the football stadium to be a part of the TAR Canada filming. So much for security.

I think that there is a post somewhere, production wanted people in the stands at that stadium to cheer......that is why that location is being tweeted.

Drumheller, Alberta is about 70 miles NE of Calgary. It is home of the Royal Tyrell Museum, one of the world's premier paleontological museums. That area is world known for late Cretaceous dinosaurs, such as T. Rex. From that photograph, looks like they are out in the badlands doing some "dinosaur" fossil recovery.....lol

If they are going to hit all of the provinces and territories, like the press says, they should be headed North to Nunavat soon. It will either be Iqualit or Rankin Inlet, since those are the most accessible cities by air. And it is easier to get to Nunavat from Edmonton or Winnipeg. I would not be surprised to see a Charter if/when they fly North.

The press release only said "And with potential stops in all 10 provinces and 3 territories, the show will have plenty of places to see and do". We can't assume this means they WILL visit all 13 places. Especially with a season with only 10 episodes.

It's after the fact, but this is a conversation I had on Twitter just now with the girl I had met at Mosaic. Turns out that when she was leaving, one of the teams had stopped to ask her directions to the Pitstop. I thought it would be interesting to see what was actually on the clue the teams received:

Steph: 7m
Hey! Weird question.Curiosity kills the cat.You seen the last 2 check in? _______ came last? So they were eliminated? Was it by much?

Corey:6m
I'm keeping that to myself ;) Lets just say it's an intense finish. Regina traffic and construction didn't fail to deliver on the suspense

Steph: 5m
Hahahaha I gave _______  directions. That's why I'm asking. Bahaha. But I'm glad it was close. Such a cool day!

Corey: 4m
Nice! Did the clue name the island or just say Wascana Lake?

Steph: 3m
Named the island in wascana park

Corey: 3m
Very cool!! I didn't even know that that island had a name. My friend that lives there called it "New Island". hahaha

Steph: 2m
Oh I know! If it didn't say in wascana park woulda been way more confusing. But I figured that's where it was

Corey: 53s
That's so cool! Looking forward to seeing you on TV! We'll know then if what you did changed the outcome!

Hmmm . . . if the tweet that was last posted in the "Live Sightings" thread is to be believed, and teams are on their way to Nunavut, then this is their route:

Fri. May. 27 Quebec, QC to Iqaluit, NU
 Quebec (YQB) to Montreal (YUL)
Air Canada 8701operated by /AIR CANADA EXPRESS - JAZZ
 Economy / Coach Class ( S), Dehavilland Dash 8-300
Depart 6:00am Arrive 6:52am
Duration: 0h 52m

Layover: Montreal (YUL) 0h 53m

 Montreal (YUL) to Ottawa (YOW)
Air Canada 7727operated by /AIR CANADA EXPRESS - JAZZ
 Economy / Coach Class ( S), Dehavilland Dash 8-100
Depart 7:45am Arrive 8:26am
Duration: 0h 41m

Layover: Ottawa (Macdonald-Cartier Intl.) 0h 49m

 Ottawa (YOW) to Iqaluit (YFB)
First Air 860
 Economy / Coach Class ( A), Boeing 737-200
Depart 9:15am Arrive 12:25pm
Duration: 3h 10m

Total trip time: 6h 25m | 2,488 km

Looking at the Wikipedia page of Iqaluit, Nunavut's airport, it looks like Ottawa is the ONLY place (besides Winnipeg seasonally), that has flights to and from Iqaluit in southern Canada. All other flights are from Northern Communities.

I know we've established that Air Canada is the carrier of this race, but would they make an exception for places that can only be visited by flying a tiny airline?

EDIT: Looks like Montreal has a flight to/from Iqaluit as well according to the Wikipedia page, but it isn't showing up in searches for flights.

I think everyone is getting confused because Canada reports temperatures in Celsius. -1 C is about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. So it's just below freezing. I looked up Iqaluit on the Weather Underground http://www.wunderground.com (http://www.wunderground.com) and the high on May 18th was 30 F and the Low was 8 F. The average high for May 18th is 39 F and the average low is 26 F.  It may surprise you that it's that high (it surprised me), but when you have 18 1/2 hours of sunlight and are near the ocean (which is at least around 32 F), it's hard to drop all the way to 0 F.

Was there any verification that Kelowna was Pitstop City or just did they do some tasks and jump to Vancouver to finish off the 1st Leg.

If it wasn't that would leave another episode with PEI and NB right next to each other.

Here's a couple of Facebook sightings from Monday in Lunenburg:

at 11.40 I see a group of people at the shipyard looking at BII
Monday at 7:41am

This next one has a lot of detail and stuff to work on.

I had quite the encounter! I watched them do their challenge on the wharf, then nearly ran a team over when the darted out between buildings! That same team ran up to me in my car by Subway and asked directions to the Anglican Church, then I was signing a waiver as I was in the camera shot, another car backed up into the camera guy and drove off! I was fortunate enough to run into the same team again who had the final clue and was trying to find out where to go. It was our dime in a special box and needed to know the relevance it has to the town! All in all very exciting as a am a big fan of the show!

I hope the poor camera guy is OK! Our dime in a special box? Does Canada do special dime coins?

We have had special Dimes in Canada, but the picture on the majority of dimes is the Blue Nose Sailing Ship.

From Nova Scotia, perhaps Prince Edward Island next?  Drive and either use ferry or the Confederation Bridge (there was a shot of it in one of the TV ads)?

Still hoping for more variety to happen in the Vancouver leg...Metropolitan Vancouver is truly a hidden gem. Also, Stanley Park would prove to be a lovely pit stop and/or task location, hope they pay it a visit!

Really hoping for a visit to Victoria, as well. (Not sure about the likeliness of this, however, because of the route already covering that area of Canada) :-[

Only 3 weeks to the premiere of TAR Canada!  :cheer:
I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't wait until July 15th!  :hearts:

Already we're seeing CTV promoting the show and the release of the info on the host Jon Montgomery and the first two teams.
And one of the sponsors - Interac Flash has been promoting their partnership with TAR Canada in Toronto. It'll be interesting to see how they tie in their debit card technology with the race!

I just saw the first advert with the teams for TAR Canada, and the clips showed the contestants running on my block, just outside my place. I wish I would have been more invested in this race and had seen them. Oh well, I will give this a chance when it comes on. But still utterly disappointed that it is only running in Canada.

I just saw the picture of the racers around Main and Hastings. This is a very 'colorful' area with respect to the people on the street. We watch the drug deals and use every day around Chinatown. I really wonder if they will comment at all on the poorest postal code in Canada. (or it used to be)

So sorry you missed them! I will say that having followed them closely, I am very excited to see all the different Canadian areas and the tasks along the way! I think this is going to be FUN.

Yay! Only 8 more days  :yess:

Does anyone know if it will air in the US or not (worst case scenario is that I have to watch it on the computer, which is how I watch past American seasons anyway)?

We are hoping to find a way to watch without depending on later viewing...we'll see!

In the beginning of episode 2 they showed the prizes, and the cars being parked at what looks like the Toronto Islands. I am thinking this might be the finish line.

I thought the same thing. I may try to figure out the angle to the CN Tower + there is a reflection in the car.
