so like, we know from spoilers that there possibly could have been a VERY short pit stop.... my guess? its a TBC! it seems that the challenges in the leg (shemozzle racing, atv, jet boat) are very linear, so it would've been easy to execute a leg..... this is just a theory
if we see any confessionals from sneak peeks, we should check the backgrounds in case they are from Indonesia, then we'd be right!

The title quote is from Max or Katie. Don't even think on argue about this.I thought I heard one of the teams made a reference on tonight's episode (episode 2) to James Bond. (I had to switch channels after the episode aired to the Oscars, so I haven't had a chance to replay the episode yet.) Which team was it?

A news story fresh from the New Zealand media!

American Amazing Race comes to town
The Amazing Race has hit Mid Canterbury.
Teams in the American version of television’s million dollar race around the world were spotted near Methven this morning taking part in a rural themed challenge at Mount Hutt Station before heading to Terrace Downs.
It’s understood the teams arrived last night and may have camped at the Rakaia Gorge overnight before jet boating on the Rakaia River early this morning.
Teams were last seen driving north through Windwhistle.
There's a picture with the story, but it doesn't show too much. It's a car with the cameraman in the front passenger seat, the sound guy in the back seat and a man driving. You can't see the other teammate.
This agrees well with what we know since I believe KiwiJay said they were headed for the Rakaia Gorge Bridge. Rapppel or bungy to the campsite?
Those locations are in a fairly small radius (5-10 miles?), so it seems reasonable. It looks like an area with scenic Alp like mountains and quite a bit of farming. There are several resorts in the area.
There it is...our HoO!

I'm still wondering about the idea that the TBC was unplanned, and a result of the long delay getting into New Zealand pushing the racers' arrival into the evening. We'll see how the overnight stay is managed (like if they used props or just an ad-hoc sign-up sheet or nothing at all) to decide!
Let's talk about the challenges. What is this Shemozzle in your home country of New Zealand?
Keoghan: It's a shepherd dog's race. I've done it; that's inherently part of being from New Zealand. It's sort of like these mud obstacle races in America. There are a bunch of crazy ingredients, like molasses, eggs, feathers, mud, water, hay, trucks, trailers, grass and bubbles. I'm so excited about going back to New Zealand. We were there in Seasons, 2, 5, and 13, when my dad was the greeter. Now we're actually in my hometown of Christchurch and Canterbury. They've had a lot of suffering the past few years [with the 2011 earthquake], so on a personal level, I was so keen to go back and to show the world that Canterbury and Christchurch have picked themselves up. It's important to show how places come back.

Remember last episode, Caroline and Jennifer performed the Take a Trunk Detour they said they "feel like James Bond"?
I see a lot of opinion about Keep On Racing, but here are the actual situations for Double Length Legs:
AR6, leg 6a and leg 6b in Hungary - teams reached a point where viewers are told that it is To Be Continued, a double length leg. However, there is no effective difference between this and Keep On Racing (a label not used in Amazing Races until AR18) excess there was no finish mat and no first place prize winner
AR7, leg 8a and 8b in India - teams reached a Lucknow rooftop to be told "Still Racing". That sends them in leg 8b to the train station, where them board for a mystery destination which turns out to be Lucknow. There was no prize.
AR8, leg 10a and 10b starting in Salt Lake City, then throughout Utah to Old Faithful for leg 10a, then through Wyoming and Montana for leg 10b. There was no pit stop in between, so this was a "You are still racing. Here is your next clue." leg.
AR8, leg 11a and 11b starting in Montana, then to Montreal, with viewers in suspense on whether the Wheelers would quit finding tickets somewhere in Olympic Stadium. There was no pit stop and no prize. 11b was the final leg of AR8, traveling to Toronto and then on a motorized boat to Joseph A. David State Park where the final ROADBLOCK awaited them.
AR10 leg 9 - teams in Finland found no finish mat but are told to Keep Racing, which takes them to the Ukraine.
AR18 leg 4 - teams finished in Lijiang, China, with the last 2 (Kynt/Vyxsin and Zev/Justin) being told "Still Racing", with the other 7 teams already started on leg 5 and Margie and Luke winning a first place prize.
I may or may not have all Amazing Race double length legs listed above. Whether they are Keep on Racing or just Still Racing is a totally irrelevant distinction for me. I do agree that a prize was awarded on AR18, leg 4, but who cares?
in this exclusive clip from Sunday’s episode, we get to see both of them behind the wheel! There’s only one problem — it’s a manual car, so Joey is a little out of his element!
Driving around in a dirt field, each team member must quickly guide the tiny little car around a swerving course, but together, can’t have over a combined time of 83 seconds. Joey goes first, and gets a time of 46 seconds. Go Joey! While Joey and Meghan are on the course, newlywed team Max and Kate are hot on their trail.

I agree with this. I don't really see any reason why Leg 1 of TAR 18 was considered two legs. Just because the first team wins a prize doesn't mean it can be considered a Pit Stop. A "Pit Stop" by definition would inherently contain a rest period of some sort. And for it a mat to count as the end of one leg and the start of another it would have to be a real Pit Stop.

I can't confirm this, but I could only find two locations where:
1. A house stands behind a body of water with a rounded edge
2. Is fronted on one side by shrubbery and a perpendicular side by grass
3. Is close enough to the other side of the Detour
Here (http://binged.it/12mWQdy) and here (http://binged.it/12mYhsF).
Like in every major operation, things did not all go as planned when the plane from Tahiti was delayed and the teams did not arrive until Sunday night, instead of Sunday morning.
The Guardian understands the contestants slept in 12 tents at the Rakaia Gorge before competing the next day and racing back to Christchurch on Monday afternoon for their next leg into Asia.

The thing to keep in mind about the length of pit stops is that prior to TAR 18, when the just keep racing, no rest pit stops were first introduced, the show had dropped any mention of a minimum pit stop length of 12 hours.
I think we can deduce that the show is using the actual length of rest periods to better control the timing of legs and the overall time needed for filming, so the no rest period between legs 3 and 4 were not truly improvised, but rather a use of their flexible scheduling.
Disaster curse?
I'm assuming Cleardale Station is where the car-racing took place.
What I'm getting at is that they're adjusting all of the lengths of the pit stops as they go in order to keep filming on schedule as much as possible. In the good ole days, production might have been forced to add 24 hours to a pit stop to keep things under control, these days, not so much. This last leg is an example of adjusting things in both Bora Bora and in New Zealand in order to stay as close as possible to the time sequences they planned on.The thing to keep in mind about the length of pit stops is that prior to TAR 18, when the just keep racing, no rest pit stops were first introduced, the show had dropped any mention of a minimum pit stop length of 12 hours.

I have trouble discerning the difference between "truly improvised" and "flexible." It seems like the same thing to me. It's clear that World Race Productions carefully adjusts the time between checkin and pit stop release to minimize the chance that any team will break away from the pack. They have to know flight schedules in particular and any Hours of Operation delays that might combine with release times to keep bunching prevalent.

This has the effect of not having to have local production waiting when things would have otherwise fallen behind, since production would have to pay to have people waiting on standby for that leg to be filmed. So there's a clear economic factor involved and one that was harder to avoid in the early seasons. As it was, this cycle took 25 days to film, so TPTB had every economic incentive to keep things moving along.
What I'm getting at is that they're adjusting all of the lengths of the pit stops as they go in order to keep filming on schedule as much as possible. In the good ole days, production might have been forced to add 24 hours to a pit stop to keep things under control, these days, not so much. What was adjusted in Bora Bora?
