The spring edition of SURVIVOR will feature the return of one of the game’s greatest pairings: Fans vs. Favorites. Ten ultimate SURVIVOR fans will have the chance to prove they have what it takes when they take on 10 of their favorite players from the past. Dropped on the exotic Caramoan Islands, the 20 castaways will be divided into two tribes of 10: “The Bikal Tribe,” made up of former players deemed favorites, and “The Gota Tribe”.

Challenge right off the bat! A wrestling-type of challenge with a lot of struggling, but the fans got the first point and the favorites got the next four to win it 4-1 and get flint for fire as well as 20 pounds of beans if I heard correctly.

Looks like Reynold and Allie are hugging and who knows what else in that camp on Night 1 and Laura points out that romantic relationships don't work on Survivor. They will get targeted. Eddie and Hope (? these girls look too similar so far) formed a pair as well.
Meanwhile Chief Phillip created an alliance of six with I don't even know who - Corinne and Andrea are his core, with other people like Dawn, Cochran and Erik being recruited.
He has 'Boston Rob' BR rules..
BR Rule 1: Create an alliance.
BR Rule 2: Create an alliance within an alliance.
BR Rule 3: Get rid of your alliance before it gets rid of you.

The Immunity Challenge was great! They built a huge complex with laddders and poles to go up and down in pairs to retrieve crates and then the last pair would have to throw the sandbags from within the crates into six holes.
Favorites got a huge lead and Malcolm scored three targets but the Fans with a huge comeback had Reynold firing them in consecutively to snatch the win 6-4.

And there's also the four-person alliance on the fans between both those pairs I mentioned earlier, with Eddie, Reynold, Hope and Allie forming the 'cool kids' alliance. I think it is pretty dumb to form an alliance and make it so publicly visible when it doesn't even have the majority of the tribe.
The others are plotting to overthrow them, but idk if Michael and Matt will be on board.

Looks like Fran-chesssssssssssssss-squwaaaaaaaaaaaa's group wanted Phillip gone and Phillip & Corinne were gunning for Fran, while Fran-chessssssssssssssssssss-squwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa thinks Phillip might have an idol and wants to split the vote with Corinne just to be safe.
Last minute they start talking about Andrea and are worried about her playing both sides. The plan is to vote Andrea apparently now for Fran-chesssssssssssssss-squwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa's group, but looks like it is down to Andrea, Phillip and Fran-chesssssssssssss-squwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Joys and disappointments of Episode 1:
Joys:
- Andrea goddess being the best player of the episode. <3333333333333
- Phillip taking control of the game.
- Corinne as his right-hand woman. <333
- Two good challenges.
- Very intense Tribal Council.
Disappointments:
- Very limited screen time for Brenda goddess, plus her being in the minority. :(
- Kinda wanted to see Fran play the game a little more. I think she could play a decent game if she wasn't targeted so early every time.
- Boring 'cool kids' cliche clique on the Fans tribe.

Malcolm was non-existent in this episode. Maybe producers though people would remember him from last season.

Anyone notice how when Malcolm came in off the helicopter/plane, there was no reaction from the Fans, because they wouldn't have seen Philippines yet so they had no idea who he was. :lol:

LOL I noticed it. I wonder what the favourites were told about Malcolm. They wanted to ask Lisa but brought back Malcolm.

Anyone digging the theme song? I think its the best in awhile.
My stream was lagging during the theme song, but from what I heard, it sounded pretty good. :tup: I'll watch it again when it airs in Australia tonight.

Glad I wasn't the only one who caught that!
Most entertaining season premiere in a while, for me. Interesting seeing some of the favorites getting under-the-radar edits (Malcolm; Corinne; Brandon, kinda). Immunity Challenge felt like classic Survivor. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come this season. :tup:
I think it'd be funny if Probst had Francesca eat that rock at the reunion. :lol:

Problem solved by taping Survivor and watching it after MKR.
I want to see Francesca eat the rock after she got cocky and said the whole "I'll eat the rock" thing.

Between Phillip's stories and analogies and nick names and :blahblah and Shamar (i thank him for his service) but with his always relating things to Iraq I'm over those 2 w/stories.. I want game play game play game play!
I am so glad that Andrea stayed! I hope now that shocked her enough to get into game mode but under the radar :plane:
And next week we are threatened with signs of HANTZNESS.. I'm not sure what Brandon thinks that will accomplish but we do see Dawn crying.. bless her heart.. she truely is a good person I hope those tears are not the result of Brandon.

Cannot STAND Shemar after this episode! Fair enough he was an Iraq war veteran (which I completely thank his service), I just think he is a really arrogant person. Hope he's the first boot for the fans :groan:
Apart from that, I thought the episode in generally was really good! Hardly any screen-time for Malcolm, Brenda and like, half the fans wasn't good though, can only remember 6 of the fans lol

Or at least they could put effort into the cast by casting people that actually mattered, eg NOT COCHRAN OR BRANDON.

I think usually the season gets better ratings as it progresses.
MOST of the favs that were brought back were middle of the pack people. and this leads me to believe they want the outrageous ones to stand out like Phillip, Brandon and this gives Malcolm a chance to win. I almost feel the manipulation it the most transparent this season.
Regarding the fans.. we all know it takes some time for us to warm up to who ever is new on any cast of reality tv..
At this time I do not have a "fan" favorite yet but i am rooting for Andrea on the Favorites and that's only because now she has a chance to change up her game with that kick in the butt she just got! :lol:

Just watched This episode. Here's my opinion on everyone:
Fans(Gota):
Laura: Didn't see much of her but seems nice.
Sherri: Probably strongest woman on team, don't love her, don't hate her
Matt: Seems like a great guy, looks like stereotypical hick, will fly under radar
Hope: Cool girl, hope that group of 4 goes far.
Eddie: Nice, cool guy, probably one of my favorites.
Julia: Got like 1 minute of screen time, no strong opinion.
Allie: Another favorite, she will stay for a while.
Michael: Loved the outfit, seems strategical and i will grow to like him a lot.
Shamar: Douche at first, but slowly gained back my pride for an ex-marine. #AmericaStatus.
Reynold: Great competitor, snuggle probably ruined him, hopefully his group of 4 ends up on top of the tribe.
Favorites(Bikal):
Andrea: She's a leader this year which is good, that will help, but she won't win.
Brandon: Hate me if you want. I REALLY liked the guy. If he stays like that I want him to go FAR!
Brenda: Shocked nobody thought to vote her out. Happy that nobody thought to vote her out.
Corinne: Less bitchy obviously, no strong opinion yet.
Dawn: Thought she'd be boring, but I just got this great vibe and I really like her a lot.
Erik: DONT JOIN CRAZY FREAK. And ya of course I like Erik, who doesn't.
Francesca: Brought that vote out upon herself, should have layed low for a little bit, won't miss her.
Cochran: Seems much more social, team likes him, love that him & Dawn are reunited.
Phillip: Put clothes on. Don't talk about your family. And I'll still hate you.
Malcolm: It's Malcolm, he's amazing, so far my favorite in the game.
That's it. I think this season should bring ratings up hopefully, this season has LOADS of potential.

For the favourites, it was weird not seeing Malcolm talk and being socially awkward, weird seeing a nice and funny Philip but just a little annoying only, weird seeing a nice Corinne, weird seeing a strategic and cut-throat Dawn, weird seeing a paranoid Andrea, weird seeing an under radar Brenda, weird seeing a not so naive Erik, weird seeing a normal Brandon (which he will return back to abnormal next week), weird seeing a sociable Cochran.
Which makes me like this season premier. So many new insights and different changes in personalities and character.
Can't wait for Episode 2.

I actually loved both the challenges. I just hope that they continue on with a strong level of challenges. Last season had great pre-merge challenges too, but they were almost all lame challenges post-merge, sO I hope we don't get that again.

I think the fans are going to crash and burn. Seems like every fans vs favourites, favourites has to lose the first challenge for a wake up call.
