"Why a tennis roadblock in Spain?"

Mallorca = Where Nadal was born.

And also , Spain is where we have the biggest number of high quality tennis players , like Nadal , Ferrer , Almagro , Verdasco , Ferrero , Granollers , Feliciano Lopez , and many more!  :conf:

Of course, caps 1, 2 and 3 are for the Formentor Lighthouse.

The "Faro de Formentor" (the "Formentor Lighthouse"), on the Formentor Peninsula,
at the Mallorca Island, in the Baleares Islands.   :)

There are 5 main bullrings in Mallorca. Palma, Inca and Alcúdia are in line on the highway from Palma to the lighthouse. Muro is south of Alcudia and last is Felanitx, which is way south of Muro.

I feel confident that there will be 3 teams racing on the final leg, so I expect the upcoming leg in Mallorca will be a non elimination leg.
Title: Re: TAR 21 Ep 10 Title TBD
Post by: MrDeerShank on November 26, 2012, 12:08:37 PM
I believe that the next leg is a non-elimination. This live sighting possibly confirms it:

The cast announcement today has shaken loose another sighting. From Facebook earlier today:

So glad the word is out. We met Josh and Brent on the Talgo Night Train to Paris in June when they were in the middle of racing and filming. Caroline and I will be watching on the 30th and cheering them on. Spoiler alert, when we met them there were four teams left!

I don't know if this is something we already knew or not, but it appears that the Beekman Boys are in the final four. They are getting one of the largest reactions on Twitter, so that will probably help ratings.  The fact that the Facebook poster doesn't mention other teams may be bad news for the Beekman Boys though.

Also, I'm not sure we ever nailed down which trains were used in France, so this may help with that.

It hears like she said, "I think I sliced the tip of my finger". Ironic they were wearing longhorn/bull mascot clothing while they are participating in "bull fighting".

Hmmm... we could try finding that blue building in the background in caps 10 & 11. That might narrow and unveil some possible choices.

The Amazing Race -2 Episodes Left (Preview)

If the devil is in the details, the final four Amazing Race teams will have to power through and ace the final challenges. Can they get it in gear on the next episode of The Amazing Race airing Sunday at 8/7c.

Talkin about this, maybe an inside PS?

A couple things about the Baleares leg, based on the partial info we have (of course, all spec, free to discuss and/or dismiss):

The intro caps shows the Castell Bellver and the Formentor Lighthouse (caps below).
In the Bellver cap is interesting to notice a construction that looks like a scenario right next to the well.  Despite the fact that Bellver is a place frequently used for artistic purposes, mostly the pics I found didn't show (insert) that scenario built permanently. So is a good spec to think that could be part of one task performed on the leg (RB/Detour  :duno:).  Also, Bellver is twenty minutes only from the Palma Airport, what is consistant with the sightings we had of TAR during that morning on Mallorca (the famous tweet of the crew member).

Actually, I got it!  If it wasn't already known.  From the Lexi & Trey confessional shot.

The Pit Stop is at Castell de Bellver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellver_Castle)

The Pit Stop finish mat is on top of Castell Bellver:

There's a windmill database here (http://www.mallorcawindmills.com/english/ferropics.html); although I didn't find an exact match, some similar windmills are in the Sa Pobla area on the north end of the island.

Chateau, I miss something that can support your idea (and it's unforgivable because it's my identification):

Cap 56, is the "Torre del Homenaje" of the Castell Bellver.

In your photo is the taller tower.

Caps 24, 25 and 26 are from the Chips working on a windmill built for water extraction.  If you count the sails they're 18 and they're paint in white and blue (that color reminds the natural resource).

It looks to me like Josh and Brent will be back in the race due to an equalizer. We see in the second preview that the Chippendales, Texans, and Twinnies are having fun in the ocean. This doesn't look like a task to me, so I'm guessing that they were hit with a Hours of Operation, which is why they are relaxing on the beach. I also doubt the Beekmans would make it on a flight with the others, so I suspect a HoO.

Well, the great number of windmills for water extraction are in the Sant Jordi area, around 12 miles from Palma. But windmills are all over the island.  If the task is in Sant Jordi, it could be a FF, specially when the Caves of Campanet and the Muro Bullring (what we believe is one side of the Detour) are on the north side of Mallorca.  :duno:

"Why a tennis roadblock in Spain?"

Mallorca = Where Nadal was born.

And also , Spain is where we have the biggest number of high quality tennis players , like Nadal , Ferrer , Almagro , Verdasco , Ferrero , Granollers , Feliciano Lopez , and many more!  :conf:

YEAH! Those were the plans for my TAR:Spain season too. Tennis in Mallorca (even though I changed that).

Spain is really needed for a re-visit. But for a second time in the history of the show, I would not have chosen Mallorca, basically because there's a lot of places made for foreign people, there are towns in which 90% of the inhabitants are foreigners, and I think that the culture of Spain could be featured in any other place somehow better. I also see a bull related task, and I do not think that Mallorca is famous for bulls... at all. Maybe Seville, or any pther southern city, but definitely not Mallorca.

We could expect a great sightseeing of the historic centre (I was there a couple of years ago, and I like it), and maybe some beaches. The tennis, I would place it in Manacor, the village in which Nadal was born (and probably where he used to train too). I do not know. I'll have to watch the episode before saying anything else.

According to this report from Reuters (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nadal-back-training-court-recuperation-continues-112113670--ten.html), Mr. Nadal does indeed train on practice courts in his hometown (Manacor).

I suspect that the Confessionals are made from the Castell de Bellver, which could easily be the pitstop too. You may fond some google or Panoramio pictures from the exact point of the Castell de Bellver which seem to be the same angle, which takes some ships and things of the harbour, and the Cathedral in the far.

Image taken from Bellver, can be seen in Google Maps.

Well, I may also say that, about the tasks locations, I think there's not much problem with tasks being all around the island. Maybe, the longest distance from point to point in an island could very well be about an hour and a half or so, if you do not get into the lostest town in a corner. Main tourist attractions can be dispersed, and Manacor is right in the middle-east part of the island, but with a good road direct to Palma de Mallorca, the Capital and where the Pitstop is.

I am going to see the videos and see if I can figure something else out.

Hey! You play home, talking about Spain.  And is a lot of work finding that pic with the exact view that matches the confessionals.

(And BTW, I did the same things in the Intro thread with Bellver, I posted the info as new, and Boingo already identified it previously  )

Looks as though teams fly to Barcelona and get a ferry to Palma! There's a beach very close to the terminal so it seems as though teams are killing time waiting for the ferry..

Looks like the Twinnies were learning how to drive stick here:  Street View (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=mallorca&ll=39.573162,2.65779&spn=0.000033,0.022209&hnear=Majorca+Island&gl=us&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=39.5623,2.663534&panoid=yQNg8G2Z6Y1aaKZg73cndQ&cbp=12,219.3,,0,13.98)

Also, note that the Acciona 7:00 am ferry is coming in.  So that means they arrived on the Barcos 6:30 am ferry.  Both left Barcelona at 11:00 pm the night before.

I'm triyng to find D'Alt Murda, but the only close reference is Dalt Murada.  What is interesting about this, is that the place where the twins are in the caps is near Dalt Murada.

This is part of an article I found researching about the windmills on Mallorca, and I think that provides an approximate location of the second Detour:

"The windmills we see when landing at the airport in Palma, Mallorca's most symbolic, are windmills to draw water. There are about 2500 of these, almost entirely concentrated around southern towns such as Palma, Campos and Ses Salines, or toward the center of the island, near Sa Pobla and Muro. They are characterized by their "arrow" and is used to pump water to a "sofret" or water tank."

Muro is the town where the bullfighting Detour is located.

Ok. Here's a map with all the locations we have:

A.-  Mallorca Port.
B.-  Dalt Murada
C.-  Campanet Caves
D.-  Muro (Detour Bullfighting /Maybe Windmill?)
E.-  Sa Pobla (Detour Windmill?)
F.-  Manacor (RB)
G.-  Bellver Castell (Pit Stop).

It's a spec; but if the order of the tasks are the same in the map, we've got a triangle.

Peach, probably Chateau will provide you with better info, but the avenue where the girls are in the cap is the same you must use to go to the Palma Port, and if you make a Google map route search between point A and B of the map, you can see that the route goes through this same point.  So I tend to agree with Chateau about that point.

It was Dom El who found the Twinnie post about beaching in Barcelona, the waiting for ferry, etc.

But you posted the time data of the ferry, that's what I was talking about.
Anyway, something else to support the theory:  PMI is in the Sant Jordi area, 12 miles away from Palma, in the opposite direction from the Port.

Fun at the beach in Barcelona from this weeks episode! http://instagr.am/p/SmtDbPHjst/

Looks as though teams fly to Barcelona and get a ferry to Palma! There's a beach very close to the terminal so it seems as though teams are killing time waiting for the ferry..

Here's the photo comparison:

If teams start in Amsterdam, then they will want to fly to Mallorca direct. In order to take a ferry, they would have to get to Barcelona first, so why not bypass that and fly directly to Mallorca?

Yes, it's the beach next to the Barcelona Harbour.

Another one missed by seconds. I'm stopping. :lol3:

Coming back from Mallorca is the obvious time to go to Barcelona since the Talgo Train to France departs from there (also Madrid but that doesn't count in this discussion). Taking the ferry back to Barcelona is one of 2 alternatives, flying being the other.

apskip, I don`t want to argue with you, but in all the promos - you can check on post 2 - the beach scenes appears as belonging to this leg of the race.
I remember your specs on the Transportation thread about flights and ferries, and one spec comes to me - it's a spec, ok?, as wild as it sounds -:  what if teams has to pick - from some logistical reasons - the cars in Barcelona (maybe at El Prat) and not in Palma and then travel to Mallorca using the ferry - as in TAR2 -?

Well, it's easy, maybe producers just dropped the first route info as "Fly to Barcelona and get to some place (e.g. some Gaudi's architecture) to collect your next clue", then the next clue will direct teams to take ferry to Mallorca. In this way they can make sure they got the ferry part involved in the travel, and can let time to bunch the teams up!

You guys did a terrific job on the ferries.

I started with a data point that I am familiar with. That was the tweet from the guy that was on the crew. He woke up at 5 am and had a 6 am call time on set. To me that meant they were not expecting any teams till about 7 am. That is too early to leave Amsterdam on that morning. If they had flown from Amsterdam direct to Mallorca, they would have had later set call times.

Looking at the flights from AMS to BCN, it was pretty obvious that there were more than enough flights to get all the teams to Barcelona and to Mallorca for a bunching point somewhere. I just didn't figure in the ferry aspect. I figure it was about a 24 hour pit stop in Amsterdam and teams released about 2 pm. Could be sooner, but 24 hours seemed about right.

Even though we think this leg is most likely a NEL, I got to thinking it would be nice if it was an old fashioned TBC and they get a clue to take their car on a ferry back to Barcelona and catch the train for Chartes there!

I think David's got it! Compare where the Chips are standing with this view:

This was taken on the steps of the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma. I've got no idea where the D'Alt Murda comes from, which doesn't seem to match up with anything nearby (Dalt Murada is a few blocks away).

Do we have any facts on the order of finish for this leg?  I know we think its a NEL and that the Twinies go out in 4th place but that doesn't mean they have to finish last this leg?  Is there time in this leg for Josh and Brent to catch up or are they saved by another NEL.

I was thinking the order of finish for just this leg may go something like this:

1. Chips
2. Trey & Lexi
3. Twinies
4. Josh and Brent (saved by a NEL and crawl into final three next episode)

ianthebalance, I don't think we can say for certain. We can speculate, but I'm not sure the teams got the cars at the exact point where the promo shows one of the twins trying to drive stick.

I also am not sure the "injury" is that crippling. It looks like the the injury Brennan got to his finger in (Thailand?) during season one, and he did just fine.

They probably got the self drive cars at the Cathedral and were headed out from there when they pulled over to pracitce.  The location where the stick shift practicing was filmed is 2.6 km away from the Cathedral:  Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Carrer+del+Mirador&daddr=Unknown+road&hl=en&ll=39.564693,2.654572&spn=0.011191,0.01987&sll=39.564346,2.662532&sspn=0.011191,0.01987&geocode=FYa_WwIdGGcoAA%3BFTisWwIdaaIoAA&gl=us&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=17&t=m&z=17)
