Title: Mystery TAR Sightings - Can You Figure These Out?

I've had a couple of sightings lately, complete with pictures, that look very much like some version of TAR being run. I have no idea if they are real and if so, what version it is. I'll throw them out here in case one of you can figure it out.

The first one is from last Saturday, Sept. 15th, in New York City. The person tweeting is from Australia and visiting New York City.

I'll post the picture below of a clue box. I suspect this was a local race, but if so, they did a great job of reproducing a clue box, though the red strip may be too wide. I suppose it's also possible that it was left over for TAR 21 filming a few months back, but it's hard to imagine someone not taking it for a souvenir before now.

This next sighting is more interesting. I found it on Flickr.com and I can't grab the pictures because all rights are reserved. They were taken August 8th in La Paz, Bolivia. Two pictures show what appear to be a TAR production team working with people dressed in zebra costumes. Amazing Race clue envelopes are present but no cameras.  Two others show the people dressed as zebras in a city square type area. The caption on one says it is a traffic safety campaign in La Paz.

My first thought is that it was TAR Brazil, but everything I've heard said they didn't leave Brazil. I'm not sure they were filming on August 8th either. It certainly looks like a Latin or South American production team.

While we're on the subject of TAR Brazil, last spring I saw a van with the TAR Brazil/ Space logo on it taken in Acapulco, Mexico. At the time, I thought they were scouting locations, so I was really surprised when they stayed only in Brazil. I can't find the picture right now or I would post it here. I'll take a more thorough look later on and see if I can find it.

Here's another sighting in the US. Apparently an amazing race crew was spotted in LA on Sep. 18th. Looks to be outside the Majestic Halls, downtown LA.

I don't know. I did check back last week on the web site where I found the TAR Ukraine information on originally (sort of a Russian version of Facebook) and the account had been closed. If I get a chance I'll do some looking around for an update.

I'm glad you were able to figure that one out. It certainly looked like a real Amazing Race filming. Now that we know that TAR Brazil went to Bolivia, it becomes clear what was happening in those pictures.

I can't copy the instagram picture, so hopefully someone will be able to post it here. The instagram link shows a film crew filming a team at a pit stop, though the mat doesn't appear to be an Amazing race mat. It doesn't appear to be TAR Israel since everyone in the picture looks Asian. The picture doesn't show the faces of the team because the cameraman is blocking them. One of the teammates may have a backpack on. It's hard to tell. I'm not sure the host is in the picture. The guy in the host position looks like he is in his mid 20s, so it may be a producer setting things up.

From what it's worth, ‏@MalcolmUhUhSiol's twitter page says he is from Singapore and appears to have run into the filming while near or at his work location in Johore, Malaysia, just north of Singapore. Given the lack of any known races being filmed in Singapore, I'm guessing this is a local race, but the use of a two man filming crew and a celebrity greeter seems pretty elaborate for a local race. Anybody have any ideas about this? Joab, I believe you're in Singapore. Do you have any thoughts?

That's Vivian Lai, a local celebrity. They are probably filming a variety show and I'm pretty sure it's a local amazing race format filmed for a show on our local channel, Channel 8. She's a host, you see. So she's probably just following the "teams" and joining them on their games.

Not TAR for sure. :)

This is probably nothing, but I thought I'd post this possible sighting in Melbourne yesterday. It's not TAR Israel because they were in Las Vegas yesterday and I'm not aware of any other TAR versions filming now.

Interesting...could it be Peking Express or whatever that lower budget version of the race is? Maybe it's just a travel show? Either way we should keep everything open for any updates about a 3rd season in the coming weeks!

If some version of TAR is filming right now, I suppose it's possible that they could have been in Dubai a couple of days ago and Australia today. I checked out the website for 7 production and their Facebook page and both are brand new with no additional information about any TAR filming.

I'm pretty sure Pekin Express filmed in America this year, and TARU and TARI have finished filming. TARF2 I don't think will be filming anytime soon due to the disappointing ratings of last season :( and TARAus I think will be filming later this year. And it isn't the right time for TAR23 would be filming, due to it normally filming over the US' summer.

It could be a local race. My first thought was Final Adventure, the TAR South Korean version, but I have my doubts that Andrew Wolff would be a part of that. Some research showed that Andrew Wolff was the winner of the Mr. Philippines 2012 pageant and 1st runner up in the Mr. World 2012 contest. He also is a member of the 2013 Philippines Volcanoes World Cup Sevens Rugby team. Still, the Philippines is a likely place for Final Adventure to visit since they are staying fairly close to South Korea.

The tweets mention Gumaca, which is Quezon province. Gumaca was founded in 1582 and has a lot of Spanish Colonial buildings. It does seem like the sort of place an Amazing Race version would visit. The question is which one?

I thought Chuchu Yamaha could be a name, but a search didn't bring up any minor celebrities with that name.

It's not TAR   :'(

It's a Yamaha-funded race challenge and Andrew Wolff is hosting it. I think it's the Yamaha SZ-16 Adventure Challenge. 'Yamaha' is a motor company. Chuchu is not a name :)

OK, it's been a while, but I have another sighting I can't figure out. It was from Kuala Lumpur and the person having the sighting insists it is TAR US. When it was taken isn't clear. I don't recognize the two racers. Maybe it's TAR Israel? Hopefully someone will recognize the racers or the cameraman.

I've asked her when she took the picture. Hopefully she will reply.

I have a sighting I can't figure out. I posted it yesterday in the International TAR section, but I thought I'd repost it here where more people will likely see it. The sighting was from Kuala Lumpur and the person having the sighting thinks it is TAR US.  She says it was taken about a week ago and she tweeted it on June 25th. My first thought is that maybe it's TAR Israel, however they finished up a couple of weeks before that. My next thought is that the woman racer looks an awful lot like Maya (or is it Amy?). The same pants and very thin legs. The hair looks similar. The shoes are yellow in other pictures I've seen and aren't yellow here, but maybe they are dirty by this late in the race. The backpack doesn't quite look like a match to me. Also the woman in the picture looks shorter than in the other pictures we have of Amy and Maya.

It might be possible to pass through Kuala Lumpur and Seremban on the way to Singapore, but I rather doubt they did. So if it is one half of Amy and Maya, what were they doing in the train station in Kuala Lumpur? It would also suppose that the memory of the woman tweeting is off by a week or so on the date.

Doubt it is the US edition, 25th June seems 6 days off the last filming i/we spotted (19th June).

It could be the Philippines edition or the Ukraine's version

TAR Philippines were holding auditions as of a few days ago, so I don't think it was them. I haven't been paying much attention to TAR Ukraine recently, but with the political situation there, I doubt they would be filming. I can't think of any version that's filming since TAR 25 ended.

Good thought and one that hadn't occurred to me. However, I don't think they would be sending a cameraman with them to Sequesterville. Or if they are sequestering the cameraman too, I think the camera would be packed away in a case.

I agree, the only way it makes possible sense is if she took it a week before she posted it to Twitter, or around June 18th. But that's not what she said, so the sighting doesn't fit.

Of course, it doesn't seem likely that they would fly from Valetta to Kuala Lumpur, catch a train to Seremban, do something there and then get to Singapore by the afternoon. I checked and the Kommuter train from Kuala Lumpur to Seremban takes about an hour and runs several times a day. There is also a train that runs from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore 3 times a day and it stops in Seremban. One train leaves Kuala Lumpur at 815 AM, arrives at Seremban at 920 AM and at Singapore at 3 PM. The problem is that if you get off the train in Seremban, the next train doesn't arrive in Singapore until 9:40 PM. But we have witnesses and photographs that saw them around 4 PM. So that doesn't work. If they got cars or took a taxi from Seremban, it's a 3 hour drive, so that could work.

However, the overall big 500 kilo reason why this sighting doesn't work is that we have other witnesses that flew with them on the plane from Rome to Singapore. This feels like a jigsaw piece from a different puzzle. Maybe some other race is filming that we aren't aware of or maybe it was taken in Singapore, not Kuala Lumpur? However, I did some looking at pictures of train and light rail stations in Singapore and at the KL Sentral in Kuala Lumpur and the escalator in the picture looks like KL Sentral to me. I found nothing conclusive though.

Maybe something will be found to clear this up, but I think it's likely to remain a mystery.

I think I found the answer for the last sighting in July in Kuala Lumpur. It apparently was the Italian version of Pekin Express called Pechino Express. Pechino is Italian for Beijing. I started a topic for Pechino Express and there's more info there. However, so far, I haven't found the people in the sighting in the numerous pictures of Pechino Express that are out there. I haven't looked very carefully yet though.

It's been a while, but I have a couple of sightings from today that I can't figure out. Most likely both are local events. I'm not aware of any version filming right now except perhaps TAR China which films a leg or two then takes a couple of weeks off it seems. I thought I'd post them here and see if anyone has any insights that escape me.

From her tweets, it appears that Katherine was flying from LAX to the east coast, probably Boston, since she's from Rhode Island. It seems like an odd place for teams to be picking up envelopes (just before boarding a flight), but who knows what a foreign version might decide to do. Maybe it's just additional information. I'm thinking this is before you go through security, so it's possible that a local race could send teams there to get their next clue. I can't imagine that LAX would appreciate the extra traffic though.

From their twitter accounts, it appears that they are members of the Chiang Kai Shek College basketball team in Manila. They won the Metro Manila Basketball League championship back in February. I see nothing in any of the tweets that are public that would cast any light on the taping. I'm guessing it's something local or possibly TAR Philippines though I haven't heard anything about them taping a new season.

Here's another TAR mystery sighting. It's from a woman from the US visiting Budapest. I've tried to get more details from her, but she's only giving out a few details. I'm not aware of any versions of TAR currently filming. Most likely it's a local race, but it remains uncertain. Whether they are aware enough in Budapest to organize local races is another question.

The vine shows some cameras set up outside what looks like a stadium or arena and lots of people sitting around and waiting. I don't see anything that looks like a clue box or pit stop mat. No one that looks like a racer or a host. If the guy didn't say it was TAR, I wouldn't have guessed that at all. Flinders University is in Adelaide, Australia, so that fits with the guy's twitter name.

Any thoughts about this one. I suppose it could be TAR Israel or TAR France and for some reason the production staff is from an Asian country.

Guys, I just found this picture on facebook (TAR fanpage VN) which was taken at Hai Phong opera house in 19 November. Do you know which franchise it is? The owner of this photo told that this is TAR Mexico but I think it's not or maybe it's not TAR.

I think that black and white logo in front of the teams is for Pekin Express, which is a French variation on TAR. There have been Dutch, Belgian and Italian versions too. I'm guessing that's the French version but I have seen mentions of the Italian version lately, so it could be that.

The tweet was just some random review of an episode of the Colombian version that had just aired. The photo is from the filming of the first episode of the Mexican version's first season. As far as I've seen, Colombia and Mexico are the only two countries in Latin America with a P.E. franchise and it looks like they'll follow the same route from Hanoi-Laos-Cambodia-Bangkok (the same route was also followed by the Spanish and Italian versions before)

OK, here's another mystery sighting! Both fossil-racer and myself found pictures from an Amazing Race like show filming at the Mitad Del Mundo Monument (Middle of the World) near Quito, Ecuador yesterday. I saw this tweet:

If you go to the Facebook page, there are 40 pictures of the filming. I've uploaded several to give a taste of what's there. It seems pretty elaborate. The racers look like they are from South America and my first thought was TAR Ecuador was filming again. However, some of the details don't fit. In the first pic, it appears they are competing in teams of 4. In the pictures of teams competing, there is sometimes a fifth member and some pictures have people labelled Capitan, so it may be teams of 5. However, if you look closely, it appears that the teams have 2 shirts of one color and 2 of a very slightly different shade. So, it may be more than one team working together in these pictures. I included the last picture just to show the difference in the green team shirts. Also, after finishing, they spent time hugging and then lounging in the visitor center (which I didn't include pictures of). So, it doesn't seem like TAR. Dĺnooky's mention of Pekin Express made me think of them and now that I look again at the shirts, they do appear to have a logo similar to the Pekin Express logo, just with a snow capped mountain instead of a sunset. So, I think it's possible that it's the Mexican or Colombian Pekin Express, but I'm not very sure. I thought I'd post this here and get everyone's reaction.

First season ended on 7/30.
It was ok.
Started in Virginia ended in LA.
I won't spoil the results but the show had its moments.

Sydney is a weird airport with the International & Domestic Terminals being on different sides of the Airport. Most international-domestic connections will require you to exit the international termanal, catch a transfer bus or taxi to the Domestic Terminals.

I've been going back and watching versions of TAR that I never got around to watching in the past and just finished all the TAR Asia seasons. I see that TAR Ukraine season 1 is on Youtube so maybe I'll try that next. The episodes are 1 hour 45 minutes long and in Ukrainian with no subtitles, so it'll be a challenge to follow.

Dunno how legit it is, especially since there isn't any photo evidence w/ a camera crew. But a leg there on the 3/28 would tie in nicely with a leg in Barbados on the 3/30... maybe just something to keep a lookout for :spy:

Maybe she meant Simón Bolívar. The guy was dressed in an appropriate costume.

It could be a new franchise. Maybe the Ecuador edition is back and more regionally ambitious. Maybe it's a Pekin Express version, though it doesn't seem like they would be dressing teams up and having them try to raise money through picture taking.

I don't remember if they had the travelocity gnomes in the Japan leg, but they did race through both Hiroshima and Osaka that leg.

They even traveled via train FROM Hiroshima TO Osaka during that leg.

Someone's son reportedly saw two people on the bullet train to Osaka a couple of days ago grabbing their gnome from an overhead compartment. BUT there was no camera crew with them...so am assuming someone was doing their own journey.

I see that TAR Ukraine season 1 is on Youtube so maybe I'll try that next. The episodes are 1 hour 45 minutes long and in Ukrainian with no subtitles, so it'll be a challenge to follow.
Season 2 was orginally planned to be filmed in early 2014, but this plan was canceled due to Euromaidan broke out and Russia annexed Crimea peninsular

There's been no official announcement for any of these. However, TAR Aus and TAR Nor are highly unlikely, same with TAR UK!

I lean in this direction as well. I would guess that it is part of a sight-line which usually consists of two signs a bit apart. When they line up you know that you are on the right line.

I've asked him a few questions including whether the sighting was today or not. It sounds like he meant today. Hopefully he will reply.

When TAR 31 was there, there was a movie being filmed at the Tower Bridge. Maybe it's that, though I'm not sure it could be confused with TAR.

I have blacked out the name for privacy concerns, but I can tell you that this person works at a fast food outlet, in Melbourne's CBD (he works near Flinders Street Station)

I'm not aware of any version of TAR filming. I suppose some version of Pekin Express is a possibility. Without any mention of camera crews, I'm guessing it was a local race. However, I did run across a tweet from 5 or 6 days ago where someone who appeared to be Australian saw teams (apparently at an airport - not clear which one) waiting for a flight to Abu Dhabi. He hasn't replied to my questions.
