Title: CR3 SHOW Discussion! **SPOILERS**
Post by: georgiapeach on August 25, 2012, 05:18:29 AM
Let's discuss the Episodes here!

This will be a full on spoiler thread, so do NOT read until you have seen the episode if you prefer to watch unspoiled!!

If anyone wants to update or do a running recap during or after the show, this is the place!
We can talk about what happens during each leg here, so beware! There will be spoilers if you haven't seen it yet!

BUT anything to do with the PREVIEW for the NEXT episode should go back to the spoiler thread here please! NO next episode spoilers here.

http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,27014.0.html (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,27014.0.html)

I think this still valid...please correct me if there are errors.

SHanghai TV lnks: You can watch live and taped episodes here: http://www.icshanghai.com/en/live/ (http://www.icshanghai.com/en/live/)

100% legal way to easily watch anywhere in the world. The ICS website live streams their shows and keeps them available for viewing.
http://www.icshanghai.com/en/live/ (http://www.icshanghai.com/en/live/)
The big numbered tabs are the date, so look for the past Sunday's date (26th for the first episode), then look for China Rush somewhere on that list (there may be multiple, so remember when it is supposed to air). The number next to China Rush will be the episode number. For me, it loads about as fast as a Youtube video.

If you need a link to watch any other way then please see here:

PURE SPECULATION
I think the team eliminated at the Starting Line is
Show content
Show content
Show content
Rob & JiaJia  :'(
My reasoning is that I haven't seen them in any of the promos outside of the Starting Line one  :duno:

Is anyone else watching the live stream on the ICS website?  If so, is it buffering all the time?  Because it is for me, and it's making it annoying to watch.

I've given up too.  I'll try to watch it a bit later or tomorrow.  I hope the live streaming improves next week and it's nice and smooth.

You can pause it if you want and wait for it to load. You don't have to watch it at that second.

I tried that during the "live" streaming BUT it still breaks!  :'(

However watching it after 11 hours of the live streaming & it's very smooth!  :)

I am going to ask those watching Dragon TV to use spoiler bars since it airs 6 hours before ICS.

ICS watchers may update normally.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Race:_China_Rush_3 , the Dragon TV's CR3's ep.01 only starts on Sep01 @ 1800. Therefore it should be the other way around - those watching ICS must use spoiler bars instead of those watching Dragon TV.

Or am I wrong?  :duno:

I didn't notice any, but there were some noticable stock crowd sound effects in Australia 2, so it's a possibility.

WHAT THEY DID TO ROB AND JIAJIA WAS SO CRUEL. I NEVER WANT TO SEE A STARTING LINE ELIMINATION AGAIN. PERIOD
As for the rest of the episode, I have a feeling this is going to be a good season :)
All the teams I had a good feeling about came in the Top 7 <33

I legitimately felt like crying when Allan told Rob & JiaJia that they were the last team and JiaJia was blocking his ears because he didn't want to hear his dream explode :'(
This was not a good start to a season, I'm expecting it to get much better soon though! My current favourites are:
- Malaysian Twins (they didn't get much screen time, I hope to see more of them soon)
- Karin & Janelle (Janelle from Sydney <33)
- BBQ Cousins (I thought they would be egotistical, but I grew to like them during the episode)
- Father/Daughter (I like them. I hope we get to see a bit more soon)
- Models (they surprisingly performed very consistently, I like them!)
As for the dudes who won the Express Pass, they jury is still out... but they do seem like good guys :)

I don't get why the creators even think that an extremely early elimination is a good idea. Do they think it will draw in more viewers? Do they think long-time viewers will say "You know, this show is getting stale, but if there's a possibility of my favorite team being gone within five minutes, I may continue watching."?

Contrast this with TAR Vietnam where the 1st team was only eliminated in ep.03!  :waves:

It airs on September 1st, as said on the http://www.chinarush.cn/ website, on one of the banners, the date and time is underneath the English premiere date in Chinese.

Also its all over Weibo, quite a lot of other places.

No idea who told you it aired 6 hours before ICS Shanghai, thats utterly false.

But anyway look on the China Rush link I posted, theres 5 different banners, with 5 numbers underneath, click on the 2nd one(As I type this) you'l see the dates for the English and Chinese premiere.

Come to think of it, this is the first time that a shock elimination point was determined by a luck-based task. Way to go.

I know that before the shooting of this season, some fans advised the crew on Weibo.com to set some twists on the starting line mission. Then they chose the starting line elimination twist without thinking twice.

I wouldn't say it was entirely luck-based. It was luck-based until the first team found the correct flag. Then it was more a matter of keeping track of what the other teams were trying and noticing which succeeded.

Other than being robbed of at least 55 more minutes of Jia Jia, was anyone else surprised at how high quality this episode was?  China Rush has never been, well, TAR: Vietnam levels, but they never really seemed to have quite compelling teams/tasks of other TAR franchises ... teams were kinda cookie-cutter, there was little humor/drama, and the tasks were just an endless series of tasks that seem to be part of a graduate-level Chinese anthropology course.  On the other hand, this batch of teams seems to have a few stand-outs and the tasks weren't all that bad ...

I don't know how much of a difference it would have made, but Ryan & Charlie should have been penalized 30 minutes plus the time gained, and not just 30 minutes.

Taking a taxi for the 2 kilometer distance might have gained them from 10 minutes to 25 minutes, so they should have been penalized between 40 minutes to 55 minutes.

Henry's & Jenn's Speed Bump wasn't much of a time-consuming task - CR has gone soft somehow after the shocking elimination of Robb & JiaJia...  (:;)

Speedbump is always not much of a time consuing task. And I think they deserved it, poor Jennifer has had a lot of bad luck (asthma, grandfather died, brain tumor).

Since they had a starting line elimination, they also should have had 12 teams, like TAR15.

Only having 10 teams left made it fairly obvious that leg 1 would be a non-elimination leg.

I wouldn't have bothered anyway if they have made a starting-line elimination and a double elimination in one episode. They could have done so in that way. :lol3:

The information I've got says that this person (I guess it's a man's name, isn't it?) was one of the game producers for China Rush. He passed away before the show aired.

Quote
Some of you may have noticed that there was a credit "In Memory of Jesse Burke" at the end of the show. Jesse, one of the game producers for China Rush 3 passed in July 2012.
"RIP Jesse. Life's so fragile. This is hard to believe...even though we didn't get to interact much with him during the race, we could see that he was a great game producer. Thanks to Jesse for all his hard work behind-the-scenes for CR3." ~ KhaiShing
"It was awesome meeting you on the Amazing Race China Rush, im so sad your child will never get to meet you since you are awesome and a half! see you one day! condolences to your family and friends." ~ Janelle
"第三季CR马上就要播出了,他却没有机会看了...有时候在想像以后有空去北京找他玩之类的,没想到成都一别就永别了,不知道为什么特别难受,他还那么年轻哪~不得不感叹生命如此脆弱,珍惜每一刻、每一个身边人吧!!" ~ 菲妃娘娘

China Rush Season 2 - Stunned at how much I liked it and how entertaining it was.

So far this season is looking like it's living up to Season 2's awesomeness

Clue boxes. There has been a lack of them.

I can't believe how amazing this last episode was despite the fact that half of the clue boxes were just at different types of schools (this is literally one of my pet peeves with China Rush).  I hate to say it, but in my opinion, I think in terms of editing, race layout, teams, and possibly individual tasks, China Rush is surpassing the US TAR and getting to the heights of TAR:Australia.  It really reminds me of classic TAR!

My favorite part of this episode was the editing done on the journey to Pinghu; starting/ending with Janelle and Karin getting on the train.  It was very reminiscent of the editing in the first India leg of TAR 1 from the airport to the Red Fort market.

I love this season of China Rush!  I've never been able to get into it before, because most of the tasks/route infos seemed to be so cookie-cutter.  After living in China for 2 years, you go through so much temple/water town/traditional music/strange food/historic and natural site fatigue that they all blend into one another, but the tasks/editing this season are really setting the destinations themselves apart beyond "put on this traditional dress" and "do this traditional dance."

I just wish the show overall spent less time in ZheJiang/JiangSu/ShangHai area and more time in northern China and nearly 6 legs in ZheJiang/JiangSu ... it's so sad that the race has only had one leg in Beijing and still no leg in XiAn over three seasons!

I also have to say that I love nearly every team ... which I think is a first for any TAR installment.  Khai Shing and Khai Sheng continue to impress.

We were already extremely exhausted after waiting for 4 hours and can't wait to go back to the hotel but the last 2 teams stirred up a big drama at the pit stop with the production crew. It was supposed to be an elimination leg but they blamed the production for making them wait at the scuba diving task and argued that they should not be eliminated. It was an ugly pit stop and everyone was mad. You can see it from Allan's expression when he had to redo the pit-stop for the last 2 teams (this is not his usual 'acting serious' expression). As usual, the Fiancés pulled off another crying show again. =.= (p.s. they didn't even do the carry-bamboo detour and just shook down the clue...how exhausting was that??)

http://www.khaishing.com/2012/09/episode-5-amazing-race-china-rush-3.html

According to Kai Shing, this leg was a planned elimination leg, but because of the dating couple "puppy tears" they changed it to a non-elimination. Wonder if there will be a speed bump?

From reading Henry's blog, it seems like he didn't enjoy his experience on the show very much.

Yeah, but I think if a team was constantly winning legs, they would enjoy it better than a "backpack" team.

According to Kai Shing, this leg was a planned elimination leg, but because of the dating couple "puppy tears" they changed it to a non-elimination.

I asked Khai Shing = "After Henry & Jenn's refusal to complete the speed bump & this made a NEL when initially it was not just showed how disorganised the organisers were!

What next? The ones that argued the best/loudest are the winners of CR3? Kinda bummer, eh?"

and part of her answer, which was later taken down, goes something like this, if I remember correctly, = "...Yes, you maybe right..."

see http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=3659547063209051949&postID=6436421361800431444

==>[P/S - My comments have been deleted too!]<==

Now we can speculate...  :ascared

Also Khai Shing's initial jottings about EL made NEL was also taken down = see the last few paras = http://www.khaishing.com/2012/09/episode-5-amazing-race-china-rush-3.html

When I first read these, i thought to myself that the organisers, once they got wind of this, will surely ask her to remove these comments as it looks bad on them!

Reading Khai Shing's and Henry's blogs made me realise that the winners may be "influenced" by the organisers! Things like asking to stop racing temporarily cos of technical problems, getting the right/wrong taxi drivers onto the remote location, changing EL to NEL or NEL into EL as they are not firm on their rules, and the such! Wonder if this is also happening to TAR US edition...  :duno:

Has there ever been a penalty for not putting your bags at the designated area at the detour location? Personally unless it impedes another team from racing, (like for example blocking an exit or something), it shouldn't be a penalty).

Episode 5:
The google cache of Khai Shing's blog had the behind the scenes EL to NEL info still intact.

I don't have an issue with the 40 minute production delay for the mic, although it probably should have been handled with time credits instead.

I'm glad that Khai Shing clarified that there were 2 diving instructors and not just 1 like Henry said.

Episode 6:
I didn't understand the penalty for the bags.  Did the clue specify this?  Thirty minutes was too harsh.

From what I've learnt, BBQ team (Xiao Bing & Xiao Bang) were eliminated because they didn't get visas to Taiwan. Teams had to get their visas to Taiwan by themselves. BBQ didn't do so because they didn't think they'd go to Taiwan to compete.

The "bag case" was just an excuse.

ETA: Another earlier rumor said that BBQ team were eliminated because they wanted to quit. Seemed that they had some commercial things to do.

I asked some friends in our QQ Internet chat group. The second rumor seems to be the truth. Xiao Bing and Xiao Bang had another show/advertisement to shoot.

If this is true, then the producers can actually decide which team is to win CR3!!!  :groan:

From Henry's blog ( http://henrysu.blogspot.com/ ) =
Quote
We were not about to eat a plate full of salty rocks.  The Game Producer returns and tells us that we just have to wait 20 minutes, pretend to finish the plate, get some parting shots, and then we can leave.  Done.

I always thought that TAR, with 20 seasons in the bag, had some sort of rules book to decide on such situation, but alas, it was not to be!

I wonder if the CR3 producers will ask Henry to remove the above statement. Maybe they "asked" Khai Shing to remove hers about EL being NEL...  :duno:

Remember, the people who make China Rush and the people who make US TAR are different. Just because this version is shady doesn't mean that the original version is also.

Remember, the people who make China Rush and the people who make US TAR are different. Just because this version is shady doesn't mean that the original version is also.

When the CR producers bought the franchise, surely there must be certain standards for the CR series to maintain - making a predetermined EL into a NEL, and the 20 mins wait & "pretending to finish the plate" is the "standard" when Henry & Jenn refused to complete the Speed Bump?

Whether it's in the rules book OR maybe a decision by the CR producers - we don't know BUT either way, it looks bad on the franchise! Why bow down to the last 2 teams of leg 5 to turn it into a NEL? Why can't they show that Hennifer opted to take the 20 mins penalty & not hide this fact?

If it's in the rule books, it's bad; if it's not, it's bad too as the US franchisers did not monitor the standards!

CR3 has dropped a few rungs in my books. However TAR21 is still ok but the opener should be 1.5 hours long for us to explore the different characters of the racers.  :)

If there are more revelation by racers from all the franchises, then we'll know more.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions about the integrity of the show.

Letting Henry & Jennifer serve a 20 minute penalty instead of eating rocks sounds fair to me.

Turning an EL leg into an NEL leg is questionable but I might accept it because of the wet-suit problem with Zhang Yelin that Henry mentioned.

In both instances, production made mistakes, and I can't fault the teams for that.

The snails should have been cleaned, and the diving roadblock should have specified that the diver has to be within a certain size so that bigger people wouldn't be allowed to dive.

I don't think the word "shady" is appropriate. It is not the case that the producers wanted to control the result; it is just that they failed to cope with unexpected things. I thought the crew should have learnt a lot from emergencies in the previous 2 seasons (e.g. the first team eliminated in S1 and EP3 of S2), but it seems to be opposite.

From what I've learnt, BBQ team (Xiao Bing & Xiao Bang) were eliminated because they didn't get visas to Taiwan. Teams had to get their visas to Taiwan by themselves. BBQ didn't do so because they didn't think they'd go to Taiwan to compete.

I guess in other versions the crew are responsible for applying for passports/visas for teams. I don't know why this time the crew said that everything should be done by teams themselves.

Some of these snafus aren't sole symptoms of China Rush as well; TAR 17's first Moscow leg was changed from an elimination leg to a NEL after the judge made an error at the Music RB, thus dropping Nick and Vicki far behind the other teams.  Thus, no speed bump in the next leg and an awkward bunching period.

Actually, Leg 7 was already a planned elimination leg, but the producers took out the Speed Bump due to difficulties most teams, especially Nick and Vicki, faced. :)

(They also bunched teams up at the first location, the circus, to be even more fair.)

On another note, 7 episodes in, I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed with China Rush. It's got a gimmicky name but for a version that stays in one country, it's really, really good.

Overall, I consider it the third best TAR version, after the Australian and the American version.

I haven't watched this episode, but I notice that in Baidu Forum some Chinese fans are excited for the advent of a villain team on China Rush. They are comparing Zhang Yelin with Rob Mariano.

ETA: While some viewers are irritated by what the dating couple did, several fans comment that it was the twins themselves to blame for their making some wrong decisions. It's only the case that one team beat another.

Like all TAR racers said - it's the taxi driver that "killed" the twins! I wonder if they didn't mentioned to Allan "the 1 hour trip to take 4 ferries", would they be penalised for less than 1 hour?  :'(

Yeah, that's happened quite a bit actually. The most notable example I can think of (though I hate mentioning him especially since he's already been brought up recently) is Rob & Amber fooling Charla & Mirna in the fourth leg of All-Stars.

Janelle told me the real reason that BBQ cousins got eliminated is because they didn't have passports and they knew it from the beginning.
She also said Hennifer did not eat the snails because they were disgusting and they had dirt and stuff in them.
I think we already know this stuff but this is just confirmation :)

But they still had one more leg to go before the Taiwan leg. They didn't need to eliminate BBQ so soon.

My advice for future Racers. Be prepared for A LOT of downtime, ie. bring some cards or UNO or something. Be ready for sleep deprivation and waking up at 4 AM etc. Be able to roll with the punches because reality TV is a bit of a circus, things are hectic, constantly changing, and oftentimes very disorganized. Most importantly, make sure your taxi driver knows where he is going!!

1. From Khai Shing's blog, she seems like a sociable person BUT after her elimination, her blog was "privatised" - is this a sign of a sore loser or what? I'm disappointed with this attitude!

2. Looks like the CR producer may have "advised" henry to remove certain unfavourable comments...  :duno:

Personally I think Khai Shing probably get in trouble with the producers for what she put about a certain team and their avoiding elimination, it's not really the kind of publicity a TV show wants or needs. You could imagine if any of the current racers in the American Season revealed something they shouldn't have, they would get in trouble too.

I agree that China Rush behind the scenes sounds like a mess. Perhaps they need to use their budget a bit more effectively and if possible hire more people if its a production issue slowing teams down.
Title: Re: CR3 SHOW Discussion! **SPOILERS**

I don't think she privatized it because she's a sore loser. China Rush probably wanted it taken down, but since a lot of the stuff is just blogging about her travels, they compromised so that only friends and family could read it. That's just what I think. Funny how I'm constantly pinning the blame on the people who make the show I like.

That team i really hate called ryan and charlie "foreign devils" :(

The term Li Yang used guizi (foreign devils) is literally a depreciatory word which was used to refer to invaders, expecially Japanese in WWII who invaded China. This word is rarely used in daily life now (because there's no invaders) except in movies reflecting WWII and it has gradually become a humorous term. :)

Also it was the first time I know the English word for guizi is foreign devils.

Hello all!  I've just managed to watch the finale on 东方卫视 since I'm in China at the moment.  I'll post an update later with a quick synopsis of the episode, but it won't be in that great detail because my Chinese isn't that great so I was able to generally follow the program but some of the locations I'm not sure about.

OK, so here's a quick run-through of the finale:

The teams start on the little island from the end of the previous episode, and have to make their way to Kunming, then take a plane to Chengdu.  The teams all end up together in the airport and there are no more flights for that day to Chengdu so they all take the same flight the following day at 8:30a.m.

In Chengdu, the first place they go to is a public square to get their next clue.  It's a road block.  The task is as follows:

There are 11 people for each team, and each person has a picture of a team on a band on their arm.  There is also a Chinese dragon as used in the Chinese dragon dance, and each pole has a place name.  The teams need to match their 11 people with the places the teams were eliminated.  When they have correctly matched the teams and places, they need to watch the performance, then take part in it, and when the judge is satisfied they will get their next clue.  The models fail the first time, but succeed on the second try.  The other teams pass first time.  Harvard leaves first, then the models, then the trainers.

The clue leads them to what looks like a former industrial estate but now has been rejuvenated into cafes and bars from the looks of it.  The next task is a road block again.  There is a big tower (looked like a power plant chimney), and the person doing the road block had to climb the tower using one of those climbing things where you put one leg in a loop, and use your hands to push a pulley type thing up the rope (sorry don't know the proper name of this thing, but it's been on the Amazing Race before).  At the top is a clue.  The trainers arrive first, then the models then the Harvard boys.  Ryan does the challenge for harvard and has a lot of trouble getting started.  The trainers finish first, then the models, then Harvard.  The clue leads them to the Panda Breeding Reseach Center where they have to find the panda Mei Lan which is where their next clue is.

The trainers arrive first, then the models, then Harvard, and they leave in the same order (Harvard boys were quite behind from here because of the climbing challenge).  The clue says they need to go to some place (sorry I didn't catch where it was, but it was something to do with the Three Kingdoms, some kind of museum or a historical site.  It's possible it was Martial Marquis Memorial Temple  (Wu Hou Ci) but again I'm not certain).  Here there is another road block.  The trainers arrive first, the models second and Harvard last.  The trainers have trouble finding the place, and the models arrived and managed to get to the road block first.  The task was a sliding block puzzle, but the pieces were big blocks.  The challenge was to get the biggest block (which had Cao cao on it) out of the puzzle through an exit (at the start, the biggest piece was furthest from this exit).   The models arrive first, and Christine starts the task.  Eventually the trainers find the place, and start the task.  The trainers finish the task before the Harvard boys had arrived.  The clue leads to the finish line, which was at the Jinsha Site Museum (I think).  The trainers leave, shortly followed by the models.

The final results are below, I put them in spoiler tags incase you want to wait to watch the episode.

Show content
The trainers arrive first at the museum and are first on the finishing mat.  The harvard boys arrived at the last roadblock, then the models are shown arriving at the museum and take second place.  Finally the Harvard boys finish the puzzle and make their way to the museum to finish in 3rd place.

Hey Everyone,

The ICS streaming video is back online, but I haven't been able to get the ICS China Rush stream from the Sunday to start.  The stream of the Chinese version of the show seems to be working.  If you open the ICS streaming page, click the 东方卫视 link at the bottom of the program list, then open the shows for last Saturday (17th) and it's the show that starts at 15:58.

Edit:
I just took a more thorough look at the ICS streaming page.  I think they only allow streaming up to 7 days ago.  However, they repeated the english version of China Rush on the 17th at 14:30, so you can all watch it from there.
