RB:Unknown

(Note: There is a RB involving bees, but since it is outside the crater (spec) will guess this belongs with the next leg.)

Elim or NEL? Unknown
Spec: NEL
TBC?: No, since we have a post Pitstop appearing confessional cap:

     (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2020/Ep%207%20Kilimanjaro%20Tanzania/th_5f4a6b7d.jpg) (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2020/Ep%207%20Kilimanjaro%20Tanzania/5f4a6b7d.jpg)

Uturn? With all the inter-team drama this leg or the next would be good possibilities, but with NO press on one, will guess not this week.

At risk: Nary/Jamie and Mark/Bopper are not seen past Tanzania. As always, "not seen" does not mean eliminated.

Safe: everyone else (future sightings)

And oh yeah... :groan:

There is a FIGHT and some TEARS.

(http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2020/Ep%207%20Kilimanjaro%20Tanzania/Promo%201%20caps/th_20-7-promo1-CAPS0222.jpg) (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2020/Ep%207%20Kilimanjaro%20Tanzania/Promo%201%20caps/20-7-promo1-CAPS0222.jpg)(http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2020/Ep%207%20Kilimanjaro%20Tanzania/Promo%201%20caps/th_20-7-promo1-CAPS0390.jpg) (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2020/Ep%207%20Kilimanjaro%20Tanzania/Promo%201%20caps/20-7-promo1-CAPS0390.jpg)

And Nary/Jamie get revealed as "COPS".

the task MARK and RACHEL (BB) are doing seems like they are alone doing an RB or they are the non-participant in the RB and get a free tour of Tanzania

we also have screen caps of NARY doing what LOOKS like an RB in a future episode (beekeeping) which we speculate is in Tanzania

that would would mean NEXT (Leg 8 ) is ALSO Tanzania, and the beekeeping RB is for Leg 8

Well, each team member is taking turns with the RBs this season. So it would be Mark and Rachel's turn to do one. It would also be Nary's turn. Maybe they are taking a little safari trip to the beekeeping task.
But I wouldn't rule out the beekeeping thing as a detour option.

That would make sense. Her boobs don't need work. Subsequently, logically, her nose would need to get work before her boobs. But this is an embaressing exit for Vanessa and Ralph. They're so getting eliminated.

Did anyone else hear whichever of Joey and Danny did the RB last night say that he "had to" Maybe they require them to take turns now? Or was it another odd thing like episode 1 where some people had to do it?

Funny thing is that all teams are on equal terms with the roadblocks.

With a couple of early exceptions, the teams have all been keeping the sharing of the roadblock tasks as even as possible.
I don't think the rules have changed, I think these teams are being better about managing this issue.

LOL at Nary and Jamie's insight on the Rachel vs Vanessa fight. I like it how Brandon and Ralph aren't doing any of the talking.

Anyway's I know this is weird being my first post and all but if you guys are ever youtube surfing, please like  LIKE my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfxcoW8CLbs&context=C4ac7938ADvjVQa1PpcFN1IEb2QfBddlkHE95j3uQxE_Nhz4xGslA%3D
Winner gets 20 points extra credit in my Business Dynamics class.
As far as the Tanzania leg goes, I'm hoping Mark and Bopper make it through to India. Also do we know if the beekeeping task is the first or second episode in Tanzania.

There seems to be a lack of spoiling going on with this episode, I know not a lot of info has come out yet. But I did some research and this is what I speculate.

They travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is where they train with Masai warriors. This area has Masai villages so it makes sense to me. I believe this to be the roadblock, since Rachel and Mark are shown in what I assume to be the NCA area.
I think the beekeeping task happens at Njiro Wildlife Research Centre, near the town of Arusha. Here is where I found info on that: http://www.tawiri.or.tz/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=19 (http://www.tawiri.or.tz/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=19)
Have you guys been speculating this is a TBC leg, or that it was a double leg in Tanzania?
Title: Re: TAR 20 EP 7 “I Didn’t Make Her Cry" (Kilimanjaro, Tanzania)
Post by: apskip on March 30, 2012, 09:34:34 AM
I have speculated weeks ago that Tanzania will be a double leg and nothing since has dissuaded me from that point of view.

I also did research on possible concentrations of bees near Kilimanjaro summarized in posts 759 and 762 on 2/22/12. The most prominent turned out to be "Honey production in Tanzania is dependent on small holders beekeepers, using traditional hives for African honeybees. Over 95% of beekeeping is practised in Savannah Forests "Miombo Woodlands"

I believe it is likely that one of the following is the site AR20 used:
field station at West Kilimanjaro (Mount Kilimanjaro)
field station at Tabora Research Station (Miombo woodland)
main hive at Njiro Wildlife Research Centre

Central Tanzania is too farwhile the above sites are relatively close to Arusha.

I don't think it's in play, but there is a National Beekeeping Station in Nairobi, Kenya which is a remote possibility for the beekeeping task.

Sure sounds like it. From Wikipedia's description of the task in Tanzania during TAR 11:

Quote
This leg's Roadblock had one team member learn how to use a traditional wooden weapon called a rungu used by members of the Maasai people by throwing it 65 feet (20 m) to destroy clay targets in order to retrieve their next clue from inside.

No, it's not. ARAus1 at Kraga Kamma used a Knoberie, which is akin to a boomerang and not at all like a rungu (see my comments below about AR11).

Actually, I think the AR11 ep. 6 Zanzibar ROADBLOCK with the rungu is indeed a fairly exact match for what Dave is doing in the AR20 Ep. 7 DETOUR

Well, the joke's on me. I reported above what I recall from seeing the knobkierie (also spelled knobkerrie) in action in the Kraga Kamma episode of ARAus. However, further research reveals that knobkieries are not meant to be thrown like boomerangs. They are thrown straight at the target. Here is a definition: a short wooden club with a knob at one end used as a missile or in close attack especially by Zulus of southern Africa

We don't really know if the BeeKeeping RB will be this leg or next. As best as I can find, these log beehives are very common near Arusha, and beekeeping has become an income producer for families.

This pic of the tree-hives is from near Arusha also

Sorry all the caps are so late, today is the first chance I have had to do them. :(

These are from the PIP. I found it interesting that the PIP shows Mark and Bopper jumping BEFORE it shows JJ and Rachel being "robe-d". Also note the bicycle behind JJ, that fits with the press info about must ride a bicycle to get their Detour clue.

Remember though that we do NOT know if the Jumping is an Active Route Info for the Detour clue or one of the Detours... seems easier than throwing the thingy might be.

Seen so far being dressed or actually dancing/jumping are Mark/Bopper, Nary/Jamie, JJ/(presumed Art), and Rachel/Brendon.

Reporting that Nary gets involved in the fight, which is why she ends up getting called out by the Border Patrol, which is why they get u-turned, which is why they end up in last place, but not eliminated because we need to know what happens to people when they lie.

Pretty sure Brenchel is JUMPING. Whether that is just an exercise or  part of Detour A or even Detour B is hard to say. I think both Detours will involve Maasai tasks...one (throwing) perhaps more physical than the other.

is that a detour? or is that a roadblock? I would say the latter. The detour has to involve the bees.

just a dream I had. Why else would Nary get called out by Border Patrol at the same location where the fight took place. She must of done something, talked down someone, or kicked some ass, for the border patrol, basically similar training, to deduce that she totally can't be a black belt K teacher.

I was thinking all the "you are not teachers" situation it's not that important, it will be just a short revelation without a big impact on the race.

Now that I have had time to take a close look at our caps for this episode...I am going to speculate that the entire episode takes place with the Ngorogoro Conservation Area, or possibly even within the crater.

All of the caps are geared towards the crater and the Maasai...who have grazing rights and homes within the crater.

If you want to see more, try some of these videos from visits to Maasai camps:

http://youtu.be/BfGtMGpWGD8

http://youtu.be/gDiET8F-c7w

http://youtu.be/KBv2WSpEV2c

See anyone familiar??

Hoping for a charitable task here... something for the children, since we were deprived of our orphanage (?) visit in TAR 11 ...maybe we will get something at a school? We have the Intro cap with the Maasai children...usually for a reason!

According to the date when the race was shooting, it was late spring (almost summer) in Tanzania, and this country is directly under the Ecuador line; so the temperature should have been warm mostly.  In the cap at the airport, Art & JJ are wearing only shirts (Kenya is also next to the Ecuador line); that makes me agree with your spec that this could be the beggining of this leg.

I've been to Kenya and in nights it can be really cold. So my pick is that this will be when Art & JJ ask Nary & Jamie if they are really teachers, outside the airport.

I believe that might be Mount Kilimanjaro.  At least the picture on wiki looks to have the same shape as this mountain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Kilimanjaro

Slowhatch posted a photo that showed they were at "Jomo Kenyatta International Airport" in Nairobi.  That is quite far away from the "Ngorongora Crater/Conservation area."

We see from photos, the racers and fight are at the Kenya Airways - are they flying out to a domestic location like "Kilimanjaro Airport, Kilimanjaro Airport Road, Arusha, Tanzania"?  This would put the racers closer to the Arusha or Ngorongora Conservation area.  Another possibility is they are bused to the area.

I can't get any info on if this flight is possible, but you'd see Mount Kilimangaro from the plane.

I hate the fighting BB couple.  Yes, I know who they are since I watched on BB.  Yet their  fighting is eating up time on previews that would normally give us more challenge info.

Is there a RB this leg of the Tanzania double leg?  Is there another detour option?  So many questions and so little from screencaps.

Edited to add -
Too soon to post.  There is also an Airport in Arusha (which is better for racers/us).  Yet, it might be possible to see Mount Kilimanjaro taking a flight here as well.

Thanks guys!!

Nights in Tanzania can be VERY chilly, days can be sweltering, or just warm.

Don't think this is Kilimanjaro...but :duno:

All the flight info is in the TRANSPORT thread, we know they TRANSIT in Nairobi to either Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport.

And I totally agree about this fight stuff. I have been waiting since Season 11 for us to get back to Tanzania...and they are wasting my time on this??  :neener:

I have been in Ngorogoro crater, back in the days when you could camp on the floor of the crater. I have seen the "Big 5" and more, visited the Maasai, played with their children, woken to a herd of giraffes grazing against a big red rising sun, inches from my tent.

And I am SO JEALOUS of this leg I could die!!!

They got to BIKE in there?? NO ONE gets to do that!! :hearts:

Okay, everyone!!

The first few posts are updated included NEW Summary, NEW Maps!!

Enjoy...and see you tonight!!

Keep trying to match those two pics, is there an Arusha central Plaza that matches?? ???

I have little confidence in my quick findings on Google Earth, but the mountain looked a lot more like Mount Meru than Mount Kilimanjaro to me. I couldn't find Mount Lengai.

I was a little surprised at the elevation of the area. It's all at 5000 feet or higher, so some teams (Bopper) may have breathing issues with the more strenuous activities.

It's interesting how close this leg's task locations in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area are to the Lake Manyara locations used in TAR 5.

Is it possible that there is a switchback? :duno:
I do not think those task in Season 5 were that memorable though compared to the hay bales as the switchback in Season 15.

Peach,

Did you purposely lock the commentary for the leg tonight? I was just wondering.

Mt. Kilimanjaro has a huge ice cone at the top. The mountain in question is definitely NOT Mt. Kilimanjaro.

It was Baku, Peach was right.

No, I didn't guess Baku. :-[

But think that was Meru!!  :yess:

I was wrong about jumping being the Detour though...was that maybe the easiest Detour EVER?? Or at least the fastest??

And yes Jimmer, we usually lock the SHOW thread until say 15 min before the show starts!

I LOVE Tanzania!! :hearts:

Sorry, my mistake.  I thougt you were talking about THIS leg .

Anyway, the cap is from the beggining of a leg, this one, so we can say that you were right, partially.

Here's a map (http://tracks4africa.co.za/maps/w173233/) showing the airstrip and the Simba campsites; you can see it better if you enable the Google overlay.
