I'm not sure what  this means yet. CBS hasn't ever started a spring edition in mid-January, not even when the cycles were 13-14 episodes. And UB may only have 6 episodes this time....CBS spent a lot of time repeating episodes last year.

What may happen, based on the problems A Good Wife is presenting ratings wise, is that CBS isn't "delaying" TAR, but rather CBS is trying to see if UB can improve AGW or not. If it can't then TAR may return at either 8 or 9 pm, with UB taking the other hour.

Nothing to worry about really.  Though the ratings have been lower, TAR should still premiere end of February or beginning of March like it always does.  They could even to avoid the Oscars (2/26) this year.

I may not have been clear enough before, so I'll try again.

Since season 14, TAR has always had 12 episodes, or at least it has added up to 12 hours. And the season has always ended by the second weekend prior to the Memorial Day weekend in the US. Working backwards from that, the season normally starts between mid-February to early March.
We don't know what the season order is for Undercover Boss, but I suspect CBS is planning to move either TAR or UB into the time slot for A Good Wife for at least part of the spring, and AGW may also get moved to another night. Bottom line -- TAR will start as it usually does in late February early March.

Does the season run from January through May? If so then March is mid-season and I get your point. You don't think it is very likely that they will start in April and run into Big Brother?

Traditionally, the "season" actually runs from September to May; but many shows take a break from December into January, especially the dramas. CBS long ago adopted that model for Survivor and TAR, but had to leave room on the schedule for certain events.  Now that Hallmark has moved to another network, and with the format change for the NCAA basketball tournament, CBS doesn't have to have the spring edition of TAR finish in early May -- it can run to mid-May and still have Survivor finish the weekend before the Memorial Day weekend.

theschnauzers,

I have a different point of view on this. The NCAA Tournament no longer disrupts CBS in Sunday primetime because they play and telecast those games in the first weekend on other channels. There were no Amazing Race schedule displacements that I recall in March 2011. If you work backwards from the second weekend before Memorial Day (I assume you mean May 20, 2012; if not then it must be May 13), then this is the Amazing Race 20 schedule that ends on that date:

March 4, 11, 18, 25
April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
May 6, 13, 20

this is a shame......at least we have TAR at all.

i remember during TAR 13 i had doubts about there even being any more TAR.....ever.

:welcome: to RFF Vigate!

I remember that too...but this seems more of a scheduling issue as they are already taking apps for TAR 21.

One other point: This does not take into account the possibility of a two-hour episode at the beginning or the end, or both for that matter.

Apskip, before this year there was always a slight possibility of a overrun during that first weekend. I agree that it's not an issue with the format change. I would have computed the 2012 dates if I weren't under the weather from a nasty cold.

That would be very nice if May 20 were TAR 20's finale date as it won't fall on Mother's Day - I wonder if finales on Mother's Day itself had lower ratings than any other Sunday on that TARs that had finales on Mother's Day (TAR 14, 16 and UB:18).

You also have to account for the CMA taking up one of the Sundays (I think it will be April 1 for 2012, but I can be wrong) - but, my guess is that one of the TAR 20 episodes will be a 2-hour double episode (likely to be the finale).

Goldeneye, that particular Sunday would be for the Survivor finale, so TAR would most likely end season 20 on the prior Sunday.
As to the CMAs, we would need to check and see what date and network it would be for 2012. I haven't had time to go dig around and look; and there's always the possibility of double episodes where TAR is concerned.
