American Idol Season 9 Champ Lee DeWyze Dumped by Record Label

Lee DeWyze avoided elimination from season 9 of American Idol and was eventually crowned the season's champion, but his record contract with RCA Records has ended.

Last week newly appointed RCA Records CEO Peter Edge confirmed that DeWyze, 25, is no longer with the label. Under the leadership of Sony Music's new CEO Doug Morris, who took over in July, RCA has absorbed the rosters of Jive, Arista and J Records.

DeWyze continues to be managed by 19's management arm, and recently revealed that he is working on new music.

Season 9 of American Idol was the final year in a nine-year partnership between American Idol, 19 Recordings and Sony Music, which featured an exclusive license on the show's music releases. DeWyze's option ran out in September.

DeWyze's debut album, Live It Up (2010), sold just over 168,000 copies.

Some of the more successful Idol winners who remain on the RCA roster include Kelly Clarkson (season 1), Carrie Underwood (season 4), Jordin Sparks (season 6), David Cook (season 7), and Kris Allen (season 8).

I'm still sad that Crystal didn't win. She could be a very Kelly Clarkson type of singer.. true to herself, and very real. She's a huge appeal I think, great voice... true story, persevering... I hope she makes it big and do a JHud!

I think Crystal should have won, she was the better singer. I too hope she makes it big. She has time and I think she will.  :yess:

Me too, I am still sad Crystal did not win but winning does not assure you of something but just the title of being the American Idol.  Look at the 2 Davids.  I think that they are sort of neck in neck with regard to their musical career even though one had to bow down to let the other.

Lee's music is great but nothing spectacular to sway new fans to move in.  Just another case of good intentions but failing in execution.
