I mean, a lot of teams have left their packs unattended in places a lot busier than an overnight train, yet they've still been right where they left them upon returning.

I'm thinking the production team knows who has taken them (they're still on the train) and let Nathan and Tyler gets freaked out first before confronting the guys who took them? Could that happen? Drama drama...

Notably, in Leg 6, while driving to the pit stop, Andréa & Luciana were held up at gunpoint by three men at a stoplight in Fortaleza. The team did not lose anything, but the criminals took the camera and all personal documents from the crew, and ran off as gunshots were fired by the police. Two of the men were later caught and identified, and the camera was recovered. This incident dropped the team from 4th to last place, and no time credit was given for the situation.
And it sucked because they finished last in that leg (but were not eliminated)

i doubt there will be any U-Turns in this leg, maybe some team members quit the final challenge(roadblock) and goes for the 4 hour penalty

Don't get me wrong guys, I am a HUGE believer in using the U-Turn, as long as you use it for the right reasons, not out of spite or dislike of somebody. Since Richard & Joey had finished in the Bottom Three in every leg other than their Fast Forward, I didn't consider them to be "threats", and since Tyler & Nathan were in second place at the time, a U-Turn would've been better suited against someone who had been finishing high, such as Sam & Renae, even though I love that team too!
Anyways, getting back on the topic of this current leg, does anyone know whether there will be any more countries in Europe other than Poland? We're supposed to have 12 countries if I remember correctly, and we currently have visited six (Australia, Indonesia, China, South Africa, Netherlands, Czech Republic). Adding Poland, Israel and Sri Lanka onto that pile gives us nine, which leaves me wondering what the other three are. Am I missing any?

Germany had a ride through on the train. I believe they are counting this.

^Correct, at least for the purposes of the ads. I wouldn't be surprised if they enter Israel through Egypt, though, given how the media seems to be reporting that as a country on the route. (And since it was filmed before Mubarak got overthrown, and the country's still not that safe, they chose to list Germany as the 12th country instead because they had the chance?)
Vietnam and Singapore are also missing from that leg.

An Intersection (with a single physical task, no less) RIGHT BEFORE A PIT STOP? (:;)

I actually didn't like the episode every much. First off, I wanted to see the teams complete the roadblock from the last leg, I'm annoyed that we just jumped straight to the mat and carried onwards. I don't know about any one else, but I found it really odd and awkward at the mat. Grant only says the bare minimum, there's a very poor host to team interaction. I think he needs either more enthusiasm or seem happy with what the teams done. The passport fiasco was lame, it really only lasted five minutes. Surely channel 7 could have put more emphasis on the intersection task penalty rather than this. :res:
I don't understand why the producers put HoO into the course when not all of the teams get bunched? ??? To me, it just seems really pointless and similar to last week, didn't really change any team order at all. The roadblock itself seemed too plain and unexciting, the only part I actually thought was any good was when Nathan tipped the cart over and that wasn't very exciting at all.
The detour seemed good, it's a shame though that none of the teams chose the dancing side. I'm actually surprised we didn't see more angry racers with the sheep, the majority of them kept cool and calm about it even when their fences broke or the sheep ran away.
And oh boy, the intersection. I certainly wasn't anticipating it and it was a good little twist thrown in there. Sam & Renae and Chris & Anastasia were screwed right from the very start, I wasn't surprised when they fell behind by a lot. Though I do think Anastasia went into the task with a bad frame of mind, I don't think she thought she would do very well with it and appeared like she'd partly given up on the task before herself and Chris had begun sawing. The Male dominance really paid off in this task and I think had Anastasia and Chris been further behind and paired up with either Nathan & Tyler or Jeff & Luke, they actually might not have needed to quit and still been in it. And Dave needs a good serving of justice. He was so cocky when Anastasia was crying and when they were about to quit, and kept going on about how much she was crying and whinging... and what does Dave do later when he's struggling. Whinges and whines about how hard it and how he wanted to give up. UGH (:;)
I really don't think Sam & Renae should have been given only two hours, if it's an intersection you're one single team. If the team forfeits, then the whole team should get a four hour penalty. And besides, they only made one cut out of four, so shouldn't their penalty have been three hours? :duno:
Fantastic Pit stop drama by the producers, I really didn't know what was going to happen until it actually happened. I loved it, it was very exciting :jam: But for me, the episode seemed a tad boring until the intersection where the drama really kicked in. I wouldn't classify it as the worse, but I don't think this episode did it for me.
And now we're down to the final 5 teams. They are probably the best racers left, but I think there is going to be a struggle for them to get to reach the final three. Here's my thought's on them all:
Jeff & Luke - I actually thought these two were one of the best racers until tonight, to me they fluked first place. Firstly, their argument at the roadblock wasn't good, I didn't think these two were the arguing type and their lie to Sam and Renae did make me question their strategy on this race. I thought they were really nice guys, it should be interesting to see if we see more disagreements or lying to other teams. Tonight, these two got lost - A lot. They did well at the roadblock, but after they got lost they really didn't do that well. If it weren't for Chris & Anastasia's penalty and Nathan & Tyler's generosity, I actually think they would have wound up in 4th place tonight. And when they said they deserved first place today, I wanted to throw something at them. They've worked much better as a team before and done exceptionally well. Hopefully they can actually do well without luck on their side and claim a victory in the coming legs.
Nathan & Tyler - They need to learn to buy a map :lol: Although they seem a bit laid back and at times I think they don't worry enough about their performance, they are doing really well and I can see them in the final three - as long as they don't crash and burn and keep making small mistakes, because at this end of the race it can be the reason you go home.
Sam & Renae - I think these two have lost their groove. They always seem to be in the back of the pack these last few legs and although they were out the front tonight, I don't think they're racing as well as before. I can see them in the final three but I think they'll have to work hard to get there because I fear that at some point, they're going to make a mistake which will cost them a lot of time.
Dave & Kelly - I don't like these two at all. Dave needs to learn to cop what he dishes out, he laughs at other's misfortunes yet gets angry and upset when things don't work for his team. They aren't making many mistakes, but I don't think they'll keep up with the pace of the race for much longer. I would be surprised if they made it to the end, and I'm kind of hoping they don't. I don't think I can stand Dave much longer :lol:
Matt & Tom - They need more luck on their side! They appear to be good racers, even if they are a tad clueless at times, but I personally think that they've been very unlucky in Europe, from their horrible car to being pulled over by the cops and missing the earlier train. Give them a chance to catch up and I very well think they could make it all the way to the end.
The final teams are good racers, but I don't like them all too much. Give me back my Alana & Mel :lol:

I foudn this episode to be a little weird, as the Detour and the Roadblock were almost over and done with by the half-way point, and a huge amount of time was devoted to a standard Route Marker challenge (i.e. Intersection). While this was great to see, it was a little unconventional.
I am heartbroken over the elimination of Chris & Anastasia, who were easily my favorite team. I guess I will now be cheering for Kelly & Dave, but I love everyone except the Surfers. Speaking of whom, I was disappointed in those thieves - WHY did they not take the passports? (:;)
The Roadblock was decent enough, but not very challenging. The Detour would've been quite good but everyone chose the same option so it became kind of straightforward.
The Intersection challenge was terrific! I thought Anastasia could've finished one slice, as it seemed to me that she had got halfway with Chris. The challenge was, obviously, unfairly tailored for the male racers, and I was disappointed that two of my favorites (who had done so well up to this point in the leg-) were disadvantaged. I thought that they should've made the logs as a Detour option with the dancing, and perhaps done the sheep as the Intersection (except made it more than three sheep to add to the difficulty). :duno:
All up, I thought it was a good enough leg, but I am disappointed with the ending. :'(

If you dislike a team why not just wish for them to perform poorly? I mean really.

I'm starting to hate David and Kelly. In the beginning I liked them and I thought they were interesting but David gloating at other peoples' misfortune, that sucks! I wouldn't mind if they'd gotten eliminated in this episode.

By my count, there's only one NEL left.

I noticed in the preview it said "one team will not even make it to the Pit Stop".
My guess is either Sam and Renae (who were shown crying) or the surfers (it said they went 50 km in the wrong direction).

It may be like S16 where one team couldn't do the challenge and every other team was gone so Phil came and eliminated them.

Usually in my experience of TV networks doing promos in Australia is that whenever they show a team with the voiceover that something bad it going to happen, then it usually is NOT the team they showed.
Therefore my prediction is that Sam and Renae will finish okay.

Having a final 4 NEL is almost traditional so I think it's much more likely to have a NEL for that leg than in the final 5.

I'm new here, but since 2 months i am reading this forum every day. I am a very big Amazing Race Fan - my name is Filip and i am from Poland, and since this leg was in Poland i felt the need to write something about it :). Oh and btw. my English is not perfect but i hope that you'll all understand me.
But on to buisness.
I don't think that the producers have entirely thought about the whole "double, non-elimination" leg. First of all the skip to Poland with not seeing the roadblock at the Czech church - i wanted to see how the teams are doing with that (they should at least make something like with Jet and Cord in TAR 18 where on one screen should be first 4 teams where they would receive the clues, and on the other screen two other teams performing the roadblock) but well, it's the producers decision.
Second of all the train ride to Krakow AT NIGHT. That was pretty much suicidal. Tyler and Nathan are pretty much lucky that the only thing that the thievs have done is stealing the money, because trust me, worse things happened for other travelers. The night trains in this part of Europe are pretty much dangerous - robbery and other thinks are very often.
The locations - pretty much everyhing that Krakow and the coutryside have to shown. Too bad that some of the teams did not travel to Zakopane, this is the very beautifoul city especialy in Winter :) And the pitstop! I was practically yealiing when i saw where Grant Bowler and the greater have standed - I WAS STANDING IN THIS PLACE ON LAST VACATION! I WAS STANDING IN THIS PLACE ON LAST VACATION!
The tasks - the same thing as locations. Tasks involved practically all things that were very common in Poland [not searching the cristal key in the pile of salt, but i meant the Salt only.] So i am happy that through the tasks they shown on what Krakow is famous :).
And the ending! Pretty much i had the same emotions like in the Port Elisabeth race for the first place good job for the producers for that:)
I'm waiting for the Israeli edition and of course for the Polish leg. But i'm hoping that in next TAR some other parts of Poland will be also visited.
I'm happy that Chris And Anastacia are gone - at least we won't be hearing any fights with those two. I'm cheering for Matt and Tom and Jeff and Luke - with the first cuple i have Jet&Cord syndrome - i just love anyone with cowboy hats, but they are also funny, and with the other couple... well i just love to see them, how they interact, how they traveling :). Hope that Nathan and Tyler or Dave & Kelly will be eliminated soon - i just hate them.

Anastasia couldn't saw through her slice with Chris. What difference would it have made if Nathan & Tyler had cut the first slice? That's right, none at all.
And besides, they only made one cut out of four, so shouldn't their penalty have been three hours? :duno:

I know she couldn't saw through it with Chris herself, but I partly think it was due to her poor frame of mind heading into the task. She thought that Sam & Renae are struggling, I'm going to struggle too. If she had been paired up with the boys, I feel she just would have seen them do it reasonably well and believed she could have done the same. It's just a personal opinion. I can see and do respect yours too :)
All team members didn't need to cut 2 pieces each with their own team member though.. Dave paired up with Tom for the last piece. Sam & Renae told Anastasia that she only needed to finish that one piece and they could each do another with Chris. Either way, I would have liked to have seen them both get the 4 hour penalty, because it was after all an intersection.

With hindsight being 20/20, it would've been in Chris & Anastacia's best interest to quit earlier. But I think Anastacia was so concerned with pissing off Chris she kept at it until she physically could go no further. I'm glad it went down that way, as it would've been BS to benefit from quitting the task and stay ahead of 2 teams that finished the task and who were behind mainly due to what had happened in the Czech Republic.

Honestly, it hurts me to see another team eliminated due to gender discrimination task. Anastatia.. she's definitely going to take longer than people like Nathan and Tyler and Jeff and Luke. I don't know why they have to make the teams cut two pieces.
It should be just one team, cut one piece and then move on to the pit-stop.
Honestly, Sam and Ranae are getting back their energy huh? At first I lost all hopes of them making the Final 3, now at least there's a gleam of hope.

I didn't like Jeff and Luke as much this episode.. Nathan and Tyler are moving up the ladder for me. Matt and Tom.. clueless.. but entertaining.
Detour and Roadblock seemed forgettable due to the wood saw task.. i think that's all of what we can remember at the end of the episode. Not a good leg, I say.. at least for me.

Possibly, they were apparently there for a long time before they quit. Even if they took an hour to saw through the other half of the log before quitting, they would have survived.

It sucks for them to not finish the leg despite completing the Roadblock and Detour well ahead of the other teams. Came down to a physical task... :groan:

The exact amount of the sobbing and crying is critical. The clock on their penalty was down to 42 minutes BEFORE Matt/Tom and Dave/Kelly left the sawing task for the pit stop. It is quite possible that not crying over spilled soup could may have saved Chris/Anastasia. It depends on the time to navigate to the pit stop and exactly how much time Chris/Anastasia wasted before getting on the road.

And Dave needs a good serving of justice. He was so cocky when Anastasia was crying and when they were about to quit, and kept going on about how much she was crying and whinging... and what does Dave do later when he's struggling. Whinges and whines about how hard it and how he wanted to give up. UGH (:;)
Yeah, I always thought he was like an older version of Nick, from S17, with the way he acts and flips out whenever things don't go his way.

Same here. I was happy to see those teams ahead, but after seeing what the next task was, I was like... oh no! Especially after seeing that the other intersected teams would have at least 3 males.
I thought Chris & Anastasia were hilarious, even though they argued a lot. So I did hope this leg would have been a NEL, or that their penalty would have expired before the last team arriving.

For the record- if departure times are correct for leg 9, Chris and Anastasia should have has roughly 20 minutes left on their penalty. The gap between S/R and M/T was about 1 hour 40 minutes.

That's about... 1 hour 27 minutes. I'm definitely sure that if both teams (including Sam and Ranae) decided to QUIT the moment they saw the task, they will still be third and fourth respectively.. because they definitely spent a good 45mins for Ranae to cut the wood (according to other teams) and spent another 30mins - 1 hour for Anastatia to cut her uncompleted piece.

It does make me wonder what would production due if racers were robbed of travel documentation (as opposed to just losing them)? As Tar ever had racers robbed of important things like that, or even money before?
I know this is an old post, but I realized after watching episode 8 that Tyler and Nathan weren't the only one that got robbed on the train to Poland. The Amazing Race Israel season two Bar and Inna also had their money stolen on the train to Poland. :'( What's going on with these trains?

Sleeping cars are relatively open and unprotected by conductors throughout Europe and certainly also in India. If travelers do not chain their possessions they risk losing them while they sleep.

Eastern Europe is also kind of infamous for these kinds of thefts occurring on night trains, and Poland is a main target. It is the nature of trains, that they are so easily thefted upon.
