Adding in some more info about our Finale Leg.
Thanks to the great work of florida, teams were spotted in Miami!
TAR 18 teams arrived in MIA from Sao Paulo 12-13-10 on flight AA930 at 9:36 AM (Landed 121 min late)
9 of the 11 teams were seen briefly at the airport.
Production was present.
Clues appeared to be handed to teams who then dispersed within the airport area. (decoy run?)
All teams were eventually seen heading to the taxis....

This reflects weeks of valiant effort on the part of the team, so many thanks to Slowhatch, Neobie, Chateau, MamaT, caper and especially florida!!
Slowhatch was the first to find the Miami area film permit way back on 11/24. Many of you all spotted it shortly before the race...thanks to all of you who helped keep that confidential until we were sure the racers were safely through the location!
That permit gave us Miami as a possible location, and was later confirmed secondarily.
QuoteCountywide, Marine Stadium Marina.
So here is the broad outline of what we know now:
The first stop after the Miami airport was the marine stadium marina location, there only about 15-20minutes.

SPEC is that this was a route info clue only.
They then continued south to Key Largo, which was the site of the next task:
a RoadBlock.
Following that, they proceded south through the Keys to Big Pine Key for the next task.
walkingpneumonia's blog find re the Seven Mile Bridge closure would then follow nicely from there.
The TAR 18 Finale PITSTOP Location is believed to be

Yes that is right, we identified Pidgeon Key and that spot back on Dec 17.Haha sorry Peach! I was responding to what someone else said about the finish line. And I knew we had Pigeon Key, just hadn't seen the picture yet!

On the right side of the picture, out the back car window, you can see a road sign. It looks like a US Interstate sign. That would mean Keisha & Jen are racing in Florida!

Those are also the clothes they are wearing getting out of the airport in Miami. Notice the scarf Jennifer is wearing around her head.

I feel like BE and FT are walking while the sisters are running... Could this indicate anything?
is it possible that the leg is one of those "keep on racing" legs (with an elimination at the end)? would that explain the clothes in the previews never changing?Nope, it wouldn't really make sense to eliminate a team at the Finish Line

i mean have the penultimate leg end with a "keep on racing" and eliminate the last team that arrives anyway (and the final three just keep racing)? pretty much the same thing that they always did with the final four, except theres no break.
Arrive Brazil comes before waxing....
And no ZBC...no TBC
Somebody goofed.
4 go to RIO.
3 race for the finale.
Guaranteed.
That would explain why Kisha/Jen were seen in Miami wearing the same/similar clothing. Interesting theory.

Teams raced in Rio on Dec 11. Arriving in Rio very rearly morning and leg was completed in afternoon. Remember this is HD season. They want to film as much as possible in daytime for cameras. Teams arrived in Miami on morning of Dec 13. It is impossible to be a TBC or KRL. There is a normal Pit Stop on afternoon of the 11th with one team eliminated. If allowed by Production, there is plenty of time to get clothes washed before release from Pit Stop on Dec 12. I am not saying that happened, but there is plenty of time.
Also, if I was one of the final three teams, I would get rid of most of my stuff that I did not want in Rio. There will be plenty of people to give it to, right outside their hotel or in a trash can or even the maids in the hotel.
I was trying to say there is plenty of time to get clothes washed in Rio. I dont put much stock in the Miami airport photos. They are so heavily cropped/edited/censored, they are basically worthless. It it a pity that florida didnt send the complete photos to Peach, but beggars cant be choosers........right.
The cropping/editing/censoring is mine, Thank you very much.

Different clothes again...
But now we have the question Are Gary and Mallory ahead of K/J & F/B or behind them?
It looks like to me that all three pictures are of different parts of the leg, so it's hard to tell.

Yeah. I just wonder who flew in first since they weren't sited with the other teams on that flight. The promos for the Brazil part would sort of make me think that they finished first that leg and somehow got an earlier flight. But something about the second promo makes me think they flew in later. :(
RB in a boatyard? Since we know it takes place in Key Largo, could the boat ride be from there to Big Pine?
(http://i53.[banned image hosting site].com/14w9g1w.jpg)
Why are they in a boat? Could this be in Miami?
They have different clothes on than in Brazil:

Well it is one thing to censor your private info...........but then seems like a conflict of interest with being a Mod of this forum to censor members info............but that is just the way I think.
After thinking for a bit, I wouldnt put it past Producton to make them wear the same clothes for both episodes. They might have already known it would be a double episode back in Dec.
graytex, on your FT/BE pic it looks like a match but your post doesn't say where that location is.

I don't think so because why would the give away that the Globetrotters are in the Final 3?Heee...I look at the waxing video and think...Kent would have rocked this task!!:lol3:
And also, is the boat FT and BE are riding in in the Florida Keys?

WHo knows? But that boat is definitely in the Keys, not only that, but if you read the threads ;) you will see the location of that shot has been identified.
RECAP Promo caps! (only the new stuff)
And I vote we do most of the taxi discussion in the BRAZIL thread since that is where most of it is...and concentrate here on ID'ing all the FL locations.

I have been watching the promo over and over. The weirdest thing I found that was in Miami, Jen and Kisha were not carrying anything on them. No backpacks or fannypacks at all... I wonder where they keep their clues with them and I think it is a amazing race rule to have the "race fannypack" with them at all times in the race.
From this, I wonder if they could be the decoys of this final leg of the race.
Just my 2 cents.

They might have ditched their luggage in order to run faster. I believe someone else in the thread has mentioned this idea. I am clinging onto this because I want them to win!

Florida's find: Compare this preview shot to this GE image of the same location (taken about two weeks later!)
I can't wit until we get a GE satellite image that show actual Race action going down :lol3:

I've been trying to figure out who this is since the promo came out. I wonder why the only good shot we get from a boat is the globetrotters? It's possible that the third place team is never shown on a boat if they are transporting teams to the finish line.
I cropped this a little bit to see if we could make anything out...

I'm going to bet that they are taking the boats from Big Pine to the finish line on Pigeon Key. I'm not sure why they would be at the Marathon Marina.
Gary and Mallory are in Florida because of the clothes. That water behind them is either a lake or more likely a bay or inlet because you can see the other side with buildings. She is holding a RI clue so they have already been to at least the first cluebox, unless that is the Pitstart clue and they are looking for the marina.
Do we know that teams drive to Big Pine? Maybe they take the boats there from the Marathon Marina.
I haven't been checking clothes. What is the match?
Or it got dirty and she took off the pink. Can't ASS-U-ME.
However, if the location is tourist oriented or where part-time winter residents live, then the out-of-state licensed vehicle may have plates on the front bumper.
Thinking outside the box, they could have changed clothes after getting waxedOr it got dirty and she took off the pink. Can't ASS-U-ME.
So Gary also changed his shirt and she put on a light blue scarf on her head? And redid her hair into two braids?
Thinking outside the box, they could have changed clothes after getting waxed
it looks like they are heading from the pitstop and starting a new leg.
Besides the whole clothes issue. I wonder why they would stop their taxi back there somewhere and get out there. They have a good portion of running to do to get to the museum and surely the driver knows where it is. :duno:

Well production may throw in another one of those "by foot" rules if they are close enough. It's also probable that they took a tram which would have to drop them off at the nearest stop.
Here's another comparison of how they change in appearance:
I used to think this was the cab to the Pitstop perhaps it is the cab to the detour:
They are wet, red-faced, with mussed hair.
Here we have completely different outfits, rebraided hair and a head scarf:
It's very confusing :umn:
Here's another comparison of how they change in appearance:It actually makes perfect sense... the green/pink outfits are wet, so they might as well change after the waxing while they can. Also, Mallory is a beauty queen, surely she can re-braid her hair during a cab ride. And if you notice, Mallory just switched her top while the black undershirt and pants are the same

Gary and Mallory are competitive people who are not likely to change clothes mid-Race just because they got a little dirty.
This shot was taken between 8:12 and 8:52 am (assumes December 12th)
Wait a minute, if they leave Pitstart at 8AM why to they get on a flight to Miami that departs at 11:30 PM? Production requirements?

Sometimes teams put their fanny packs in their Backpacks and it's possible they left their backpacks in the Taxi or they dropped them to the ground to read their clues or run faster...
For the record, the lettering on that truck is "PREFEITURA" (Portuguese for prefecture). It appears to be a municipal vehicle.
I think airing a decoy team in the promo would not only be a first but quite devious and unnecessary. CBS has not been even close to being that guarded with their videos this year. It would be odd to see them go to such lengths, imo.
I personally still find it the most telling, beyond all these other subtleties, that Zev and Justin are the only team that is not shown past the Rio pitstop.

I can't recall that I have ever seen any thing like that on the Race but the possibility cannot be dismissed. (Though putting on a headscarf after one has been hot all day is a bit strange.)Not here to beat a dead horse, but Aaron & Arianne?

Going back to this idea - I think speedrace does have a point. It's possible that Kisha/Jen dropped their fanny packs or something but it doesn't seem likely. Teams are usually very, very careful about keeping their fanny packs with them because of passports. Like in Japan, when Ron and Christina freaked out because Christina's fanny pack was missing. I don't think teams would risk losing their fanny pack if the taxi driver drove off or something.
As for the fanny pack being in their backpack and then they dropped their backpack - that seems possible, but it seems a little unlikely that both caps of them would show them without any fanny pack/backpack. Like the Globetrotters, in both screencaps, you can see that they don't have their backpacks but they've still kept their fanny packs with them.
Unless we've had any confirmation that Kisha/Jen are in the Final 3, I think it's possible they could be that last eliminated decoy team :duno:

I think Jen is wearing her fanny pack purse-like in the 1st pic - you can just make out the strap. In the 2nd pic it looks like they got wet from at least the waist down - I would think she took the fanny pack off to keep it dry. :duno:
Still seems weird that CBS would more or less give away the final elimination if it's Zev/Justin, but I'm definitely seeing the evidence.
OMG! I just realized that Jen has the magical magnetic bracelet that helps you keep your balance!haha I noticed that too. At first glance I thought she was wearing two watches but then I realized what it really was.
Very true, in fact a majority of TAR viewers probably never seek out all that web content. I have friends and family who are "normal TAR viewers," from the content that they have seen they don't even know that teams go to Rio. It doesn't show that in the episode preview which is as far into the future as many go. The members on here are probably most of the people in the world that are interested in that kind of in depth content.
I just wonder sometimes because CBS knows we exist, maybe they drop us some hints on purpose. We are their superfans after all and the detecting makes the experience more enjoyable, for me at least.

Yeah, I realize that most people don't pick up on everything in previews. But I guess something still seems off for me after watching the promos - like the promo actually says "The coolest place on the planet, Miami beach!" before flashing to a scene of the Globetrotters in Miami and then Kisha and Jen in Miami. Then they switch to a different topic as they show Gary and Mallory in Brazil. It seems weird that they would literally go "Miami beach!" -flash to teams in Miami- I mean you can't get more obvious than that!
Or maybe it's all reverse psychology  And of course I love the detecting too! It makes the season more fun :hearts:
I've been trying to figure out who this is since the promo came out. I wonder why the only good shot we get from a boat is the globetrotters? It's possible that the third place team is never shown on a boat if they are transporting teams to the finish line.
PROMO 1 CAPS (??Florida??)

Please notice that the very few at RFF who may know what went down take extra care to not reveal anything about the ending because in AR11 when that strategy was not followed the results were catastrophic.
For all you fans who believe that CBS "Gives things away" about the ending, even if it is only minute clues that great detectives could detect, I say that I have a Bridge located in Brooklyn to sell you! CBS is a master of the artful dodge and misleading promos to make you think you know what will happen. On most legs, that may actually be true, but never on the final leg. Please notice that the very few at RFF who may know what went down take extra care to not reveal anything about the ending because in AR11 when that strategy was not followed the results were catastrophic.
An exact boot list for TAR 11 surfaced and was revealed here on RFF. This made watching the season boring.
I can understand why such information is withheld from us this year. It makes watching the show more enjoyable.
In the first promo, at the end the globetrotters said "We're in a hurry for one million dollars". But in fact, it's an edit as you will notice the cut at "We're in a hurry" and "for one million dollars".
Something that I remembered, and can't get out of my head, is how Kisha/Jen got U-Turned in their original season because Tammy/Victor couldn't outrun them (in that one infamous China leg's Pit Stop footrace)......and the GTs got beat in a footrace in their original season by Sam/Dan (to a Pit Stop).
Plus, it's hilarious how the preview that states "photo finish" gave away something completely huge....which was mentioned already in this thread.

We did have a cap when Eric and Jeremy won that TOTALLY gave the winner away....

That was the only episode in AR15 in which those teams finished #1/#2.

With Kisha and Jen, Jen is probably the fittest person left, even fitter than the Globetrotters, I think...http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,25250.msg611226.html#msg611226
So a mild version of a memory challenge will be part of the final leg. I want to speculate on which teams are in better position to win because of that:
Nate/Herb - based on the "Franz" episode in Prague in AR15, I can't imagine them doing well on a decent memory challenge
Kisha/Jen - they are university graduates; they might be good at this
Gary/Mallory - Gary could be exceptional at this; I cannot imagine that Mallory would be focused enough
Zev/Justin - they also might be good at this
My conclusion is that there is no clearcut team that would have a distinct edge, but I think Gary is the individual who would do best.
O m g. I just realized there's no FF this season? Did they completely remove it? :duno:The whole theme of this season was making it hard and difficult

The final mental task may or may not be a roadblock. They have certainly done both. What I wonder is, if the final task is a roadblock what other task will they have to perform as there is probably not a detour in Florida.
i bet the finale is going to be suuuuper cool. and a photo finish? that would make history! i think the closest finish was Chris & Alex beating Tara & Will by 20 seconds (estimate) :ascaredthemikko95,
Hmmmm... I hear no memory task at all.
And the RB MAY be a "build a trailer" task!!
Keoghan: Yes. We always like to put in challenges that require teams to have to think, for sure. This one is not as blatant as other seasons we have done, where we've really made it a "take yourselves back and remember when you did this, that and the other."
This was the most telling phrase for me, I don't think he is disagreeing with peach. :lol:QuoteKeoghan: Yes. We always like to put in challenges that require teams to have to think, for sure. I read that as not a "put things in order from the season" like TAR 9 or 12 or 13 or 14, etc. but more like TAR 5 or 11 or something we haven't seen.
Do you mean a modular home peach? There are plenty of those on Key Largo.

What was the "something completely huge"? I'm lost... :duno:
One hour earlier, he also twittered that he was in San Diego for the wedding of Meghan and Cheyne.

The vaguest of hints....maybe? Don't over-think it.

So they get the roadblock clue at the marina and drive down to largo to do it at Jules Undersea Lodge?
It looks like a really cool place, and the kind of thing they usually showcase in the finale's procedural roadblock.
Reports coming out of Union County, KY (Morganfield) is that Gary and Mallory won, with donating the money to help start up a Catholic high school that is being talked about built. All of the ervins attended the lone catholic elementary and middle school (St. Anns K-8th) but there is only 1 high school in Union County.

That make's their winning all the sweeter! LOVE IT!
I am neither confirming nor denying anything!!

But ALL sources at this stage should be viewed with a critical eye. ;)
And remember, there are two legs tonight, so another FIRST PLACE MAT before our FINAL THREE photo finish!!
AND THIS IS NOT THE SPECULATION THREAD!
Critical eye - is that clue? So eye, eye of the tiger, tigers are found in India and GTs won one of those legs and G&M won the other, so that means it's either of those two.
Or maybe Critical Eye means someone who pays attention to details and sometimes ppl with AS don't see the big picture b/c they focus on the details.. so that's saying Zev and Justin lose out b/c of that.
OR maybe critical eye means the CBS Eye and what's on there - March Madness and who is related to basketball Jen and Kisha or the GTs, so it's about them! :waves:
Okay I'll stop, but I could totally come up with 80 more. :neener:
And remember, there are two legs tonight, so another FIRST PLACE MAT before our FINAL THREE photo finish!!
raina, how about the emphasis on the first place mat? This is late, but I think it means Kisha and Jen win since they've never placed in first place before. Just random speculation.
Congrats to Jen and Keisha!! Now that this season is over, has the next season started? I remember way back when we were still watching last season while this season was being filmed. Has anyone heard anything about next season?
I hate going until like September without the amazing race (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) lolCongrats to Jen and Keisha!! Now that this season is over, has the next season started? Phil said in an interview that they would start recording TAR 19 this summer. I would assume June. :duno:

Nothing fills the race void :(
I think/hope the first week of June for TAR19. But who knows.
Thanks for the reply. I'm with you I hate waiting for the race to start. And like someone below says, TAR Australia starts next week, I sure wish we in the US could see the other series of this show.I hate going until like September without the amazing race (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) (:;) lolCongrats to Jen and Keisha!! TAR Australia starts next Monday (Sunday American Time!)
Good point about the reference to Nat and Kat. Do you know, once they choose the teams and are getting ready to shoot, are they sequestered at all beforehand? How much of S17 would the S18 people have been able to see? Will be curious to go back and look at the timeline.
It seems like all the blame for your third-place finish is being placed on the cab. Do you think that was the biggest factor in falling behind?
Mallory: "Yeah, it had to be. It's funny because we got out of the airport and got in the cab and it had a GPS and English speaking driver and everything was fine, and then this lady knocked on the window and said she'd been waiting for the cab for 30 minutes. So, we got out and got into a different one. We're nice, polite people so we weren't going to not let her have that cab if she'd been waiting that long but I think it might have lost us a million dollars!"
Anyone know how long they spent doing each task? Since they arrived early in Miami and reached the finish line around sunset, those tasks were obviously pretty time consuming. I presume they were at the trailer park task for several hours. And have they revealed how much time elapsed between k/j and g/m reaching the finish line?
Here's (http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/s66/the-amazing-race/interviews/a318587/qa-gary--mallory-talk-amazing-race.html) a great interview with Gary and Mallory.
Especially this part:QuoteIt seems like all the blame for your third-place finish is being placed on the cab. Do you think that was the biggest factor in falling behind?

:'( :'( :'(
Nathaniel "Big Easy" Lofton: Yeah, well we figured the best time to get gas was while we were doing something instead of us sitting in the car waiting for him to stop and get gas, because that's nerve-wracking, it would seem tougher to do. So we figured if he's going like that -- but it didn't make a big difference, you know? Because at one time or another, everybody had to get gas because it was like a seven-hour leg.
Prophet- I'm only saying that based on Gallory's decision to sacrifice the golden taxi with GPS after they were already supposedly in the car, just cause some lady knocked on the window and complained that she was waiting for the cab...to do that when you're at the home stretch of a race for one million dollars is just incredibly poor judgement, and that was entirely their fault.
I think it's important to point out what actually happened at the airport just because there's a LOT of rage about the taxi screwing over Gallory, and portraying them as victims of a bad taxi driver, and how their bad luck with the taxi cost them the race. But I think the reaction would be a bit different if the editors had shown them sitting in a good taxi but then voluntarily giving it up to be polite...instead of the "Gallory was robbed!!" mentality, the reaction would be a little more balanced, with Gallory sharing in some of the blame for their loss, which would be more accurate. The editors never held back when it came to highlighting everyone else's blunders this season, and Gallory should be no exception.
Yeah, that's sweet and everything...BUT this was a race for a million bucks, not a Miss Congeniality contest! I'm sorry, but you're either there to win a million, or you're there to give the million to someone else. While luck plays a part in determining the outcome of the race, this was not the case with Gallory as much as I had previously thought. This was a choice they made voluntarily, and that blunder cost them the race. I really like them as a team, but that's not the type of decision that people who are in it to win it make. Noble and courteous they are, but cunning and strategic players they are not. Sorry, but after hearing this, I don't think Gallory deserved to win the race.
Interesting, because production had called for cabs.

Yep... The lady just wanted her face on the TV. Kudo's to producers for leaving her mug on the cutting room floor!

Well, IMO there had to have been plenty of cabs around. Waiting 30 minutes for a cab my azz! Kisha & Jen got one, Herb & Nate got one as did Gary & Mallory. This lady saw the filming going on and just wanted her 15 seconds of fame, that's all. I commend TPTB for not giving that to her. (not showing it).
As far as them not deserving to win, I say they were the most deserving team to win! But, unfortunately, they didn't. :'(
I can tell you that teams are NEVER held up in customs together. Sometimes you are out first, sometimes you are not... it CAN make a difference.
Yes, I think the TAR 7 teams were very near to the marina. I can't determine quickly whether they stopped on the strip of land before Biscayne or were on it's tip. But they were definitely right in there.
