LAOAG CITY, Oct. 20 (PIA) — Get ready for season 5 of the reality game show The Amazing Race Asia as it goes to Ilocos Norte.
The municipalities of Burgos, Bangui and Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte will be the show’s trail for season 5 which will be aired in next year’s episode.
The US-based reality show chose the seven great wonders Ilocos Norte for the utilization of the shows’ venue.

These spots include the Kaangrian falls, Avis falls, The Cape Bojedour which is thehighest light house in Asia, the famous Kapurpurawan rock formation all from Burgos, the Patapat bridge, the beaches of Pagudpud, and the first windmills in Asia located in Bangui.
Mayor Chrisente Garcia of Burgos said, “the team of the show were mesmerized with the tourist spots in our place and decided to shoot the episodes of the show here, upon the initiative of our provincial governor.”
“This is good because this will also be part of promoting tourism in our place,” he added.
The seven stop-overs in the place compliment the component and the game orientation of the show.
Basically, the structure of the race is for the teams to travel to different locations by following the route information, perform some various tasks, and checking in at the Pit Stop.
Teams normally complete all the tasks and check in at the Pit Stop before they are eliminated. Occasionally, on an elimination leg, if all other teams have checked in and the last team is very far behind, Route Markers may instruct them to go directly to the Pit Stop without completing the rest of the leg.
Milagros Gonzales, Chief of Department of Tourism Field office in Ilocos Norte, together with the mayor of Burgos, is currently having their field inspection to places where the show will commence.

We think that the info about the Philippines above might actually have been talking about TAR Australia 2 instead of TARA 5, as they are run by the same production company.. I'm not sure anything about TARA 5 has actually been announce yet :(

and with TAR Aus is filming right now, the earliest we can expect of TARA 5 is next year.. Fingers crossed that they will produce TARA 5.

what's really a shame here is that TARA had so much potential (see the first and second season), but I felt it was held back by AXN, Michael Mckay is talented (see the Amazing Race Australia) but he was not able to fully realize his potential in the asian version because of all the annoying product placement tasks that make the show almost unbearable and downright annoying (the cheesy host doesn't help either). If only AXN gave them more budget.
At the moment, it seems McKay is investing a lot into the australian version and for me, that's a sign that if (I stress "if) there is a TARA5, it could be much worse than TARA3 and TARA4 (just the idea of that being possible is downright scary). I don't keep my hopes up.
Fellow AR addicts, if you ever want to join the show, I suggest moving to America or Australia to be on their version (even the Chinese version's pretty solid). Because being on the asian version allows you to say "I was on the Amazing Race", but it'll be more like "I was in a huge commercial for Sony and Caltex!", it wouldn't be worth it'
This is all strictly in my opinion, but TARA is like a child with the whole world in front of it (literally) but as it matures, it decided to instead stay at home and watch a bunch of commercials. It's going (TARA1), going (TARA2), gone... (TARA3 and 4)

really? while it is extremely gimmicky, and the contestants are mostly a pain, I don't think it is as bad as TARA. don't get me wrong, it's still bad, but I never thought McKay was putting effort into it.
Then again, maybe he is and is just being held back by poor budget and the meddling of whatever channel it's on. It's the same thing with TARA
It's clear TARAus has a much better budge and more attention to making it a good and worthwile foreign edition to TAR.
Seriously, I hate Sony and Caltex and don't plan on buying any of their products anymore after having their products constantly shoved down our throats.

I disagree with you on several points:
1. support of the product placement sponsors of any Amazing Race worldwide is important if you want Amazing Races to continue to get the advertising revenue that is crucial for them to exist. The only one I feel was totally absurd was
the FORD FOCUS and Caltex car wash product placement in ARA1 with a visit to Singapore for that sole purpose.
2. I do not think the Amazing Race Asia series is lousy. It's been mediocre instead.
3. I thought ARAus 1 was pretty interesting and shows how good Michael McKay can be when given the full opportunity.

I enjoyed TARA 4 actually. It wasn't as bad as I thought the combination of teams would be. (Mostly mactors) It's just that the finale, was again, mediocre thanks to the uneven abilities of the teams and mainly, Claire and Michelle for screwing up their flight, otherwise it could have been an exciting ending.
TARA 3 was surprisingly good with the good combination of teams as well. Locations wise, it sucked. 13,000 miles for a race is just... :meow:
The only version which I didn't really enjoy watching was TARA 2, which HAD the BEST locations but the WORST combination of teams. The combination of 2 alpha-male teams owning the race, with 3 strong all-female teams taking the middle placements and 5 lousy teams forever taking the back-pack really ruined the race for me.
The best part of The Amazing Race is to watch teams rise from the back of the pack to the front or fall behind with a lead, along with good tasks which includes the culture and tradition of a place. TARA 2 lacked one big factor of it which leads to predictability, that one will know either Adrian and Collin or Marc and Rovilson will win.
Nothing beats TARA 1 still. The tasks may not have been the best, locations may not be the most exciting. With a mid-place stop in Singapore to wash a car at Caltax. But the unpredictability of it (with little spoilers) and Joe Jer and Zabrina as well as Sandy and Francesca coming from a NEL and finally going into the final leg, with the presence of a villian team (Andy and Laura).. that was probably more than one can ask for in a season of TAR. :tup:

Speaking of Season 2, it looked like the two Alpha male teams were playing a friendly game from start to finish, along the lines of lets see who can get to the pitstop the fastest LOL, which bugged me as there was no real tension there, they needed to place more yields/uturns on this race to encourage either of the two teams to use on each other and create friction.
Instead it was like
Team A: Yay first
Team B: Yay Second
*Both teams high five*
Team B: I'll beat you next time LOL!
Anyway god what is going on with this show? Why can't they just announce Season 5 or cancel? saves the hassle of waiting a near endless wait for renewal whilst the production crew does TAR Aus etc in the mean time.
I think we'd all love to know either way, is this show dead or coming back? Do they even care enough to tell us? Allan wouldn't know he's just the host and likely when he knows/is allowed to tell he'd tell people, it sounds like he's waiting for news too.

or the other way around? TAR:CR, TARP, and TARV is not intended to be broadcast outside their respective countries...
maybe China, Philippines and Vietnam won't have representatives for TARA? Either way I don't think the creation of these local franchises will be a big reason why TARA shouldn't continue.

Err, I seriously doubt that would be a reason to cancel TARA. They're all done by different networks and production companies which have their own separate licenses and contracts to produce a show. TARBrazil, I believe, was just a one-time stint and was not cancelled because of there being a Latin American version.

I am pretty certain this show is dead.
Reasons:
1. It's been nearly 2 years without TARA, it can't keep going with such huge breaks between seasons. We've already had a 1 year gap between TARA3 and TARA4
2. Allan Wu seems to be focusing on China Rush
3. It's obvious the show has budget problems, evident by the decline in production quality and the incredible amount of product placements that plague the show. This is ironic considering the rise in TARA's rating over the seasons.
Yep, the show for me is dead, just like it's quality. I don't mind product placement as long as it keeps a show running, but this is waaaay too much and not worth it. TAR fans in Asia, Rejoice! There are now more asian versions of TAR being produced. Only time will tell how good they are.
TARAsia rest in peace, you've had a good run, but then had to destroy yourself (TARA3) and even after a respectable attempt to recover (TARA4), it wasn't enough. Out with the old and in with the new.
Then again...
I may be wrong. Who knows? the show may return in 2012 or 2013 and it might blow our minds. here's to hoping that happens. :jam:

That means activeTV, which won the International Emmy Award for the second season, is not on board. That’s a shame given they have produced a Philippine version, a Ukrainian version, an Israeli version, helped out on two American series, consulted on a Vietnamese version and is planning another in Asia.
Rights holders Disney and co-creator Bertram van Munster are loyal to Seven given the network’s long association with the brand, .....

Personally I think TARA is dead. Which is a shame because clearly Allan wants to do it and everyone wants to watch it, they clearly don't care about it anymore. It's not like TARA is so expensive no one will do it, if they wanted to do a Season 5 they would have done it already.

I guess, if the first four seasons are to be examples, we'll have a fair share of local "celebs" again.
It'd be great also to have teams from countries that have only had 1 team so far on TARA like Japan, South Korea and Sri Lanka. And of course other fresh countries that haven't had reps before.
Also, China is allowed to apply this season (were they not before?) so all the Chinese hopefuls who can't audition for TAR China (since they're not celebs hehe) can now go for TARA5.
It's been 6 years. It'll be very exciting to see how TARA5 will turn out with updated everything. So much has changed in the TAR franchise since TARA4. TARA was of course the first international version so all the other TARs were able to learn from them.
I wonder if ActiveTV will still be involved in producing the show. Though the images are all saying "An AXN Production." I don't know if that means AXN/Sony will be the sole producers of the show rather than co-producing with someone else.

I am more than happy with this news! I didn't want the show's final legacy to be the boring Richards basically making the final leg the biggest anticlimax ever by running away with the leg the way they did.

I think the Salvage Pass and Express Pass will be present this upcoming season. ??? With those 2 becoming quite (or not quite) common now, I think they might bring these 2 elements in the game.

But the sponsors definitely helped TARA with its budget. Hehe, I don't mind a Caltex or Sony task as long as they go to great places and have good tasks for the rest of the Race.
It's a wonder how TARA was able to travel as far as Europe and to at least 8 countries each season while TAR Canada has so far kept to only a few intl Legs each season lol

Call me crazy but I love TARA's product placement in almost in a "it's so bad it's good way". It is SO over the top, so much so that I think TARA without product placement is like Christmas without presents.
I just can't watch an episode of TARA without listening to a man in a very American-Asian accent say "This program is brought to you by Air Asia, Ford, Bintan Lagoon Resort, Nokia N-Series, Sony HD World, Caltex, Standard Charted Bank, MSN." (am I forgetting any?)

They also went to Hong Kong in TARA2 to just count money for the bank(before flying all the way to New Zealand)

Although that the tasks are memorable in not a good way, I have to agree that those kind of tasks were the one that made the season went on.
BUT definitely the tasks were not RFF design challenge standard and that kind of tasks would directly make their designers on the bottom of my list. :P

And I think TARA can do that. After all, it was TARA that came up with one of best Detours of all time (Pig or Jig lol) and the inexplicably repeated Trendy Connections RB lol

I just hope that TARA5 doesn't just stay in Asia! I hope it goes to Europe. Has it gone before? What about North and South America? Please don't just stay in Asia. Start and finish in Asia and that's it. I will enjoy it either way, but it would be better if it branched out.

As fair as I am aware, government tourism boards (both national and regional) do sponsor a few legs in their country and cities but none have sponsored a whole season in the same way as what I am lead to belive wth this information.

In this new TARA5 promo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FiufKBYV_Q) where they show a few celeb team hopefuls (SHOCKING no celeb team featured from the Philippines lol :grins:), it shows that Grab (Asian Uber/Lyft) is a sponsor for the season.
Interesting possibilities. First, may teams ONLY use Grab cars during the Race?

And if that's so, then could that mean TARA5 will only Race through countries where Grab is available? At the very least, some, if not all of these countries may get a visit. :)

One good thing about TARA will be that they'd be more willing to go "deeper" into Indonesia and other Asian countries than TARUS. That is, not only big cities or tourist attractions, but maybe locations off the beaten path, for example.

KOR is being confused by guests and new members, so I just use ZHPS for Zero-Hour Pit Stop, but apparently, people who aren't familiar with acronyms might confuse them to. :lol:

“Tahun ini kita menargetkan 12 juta wisman, 61 persen diharapkan akan datang dari Singapura, Malaysia, Tiongkok, Australia dan Jepang, sebagai pasar utama pariwisata Indonesia,” kata Arief Yahya optimistis.
Basically the tourism minister said they're targeting tourists from those countries to come to Indonesia.
Not sure how they intend to entice Australians when most of them can't even watch the show.... :lol:

It is entirely possible that AXN have a syndication deal with one of our networks (maybe 7 (the boardcaster of TARUS and TARAu (when that was a thing :() or SBS (a network which focuses on international programming). Very doubtful but still a possibility.
