Ninjas could be surrounding a clue box rather than be part of a task. Also could have to do with the Camp Casey tasks.
The Ninja's are almost certainly the pick a headband task during the Tae Kwan Do exhibition, in my mind.

If the bridge in the background is the Seungil-gyo bridge (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68558939@N00/501394341/), that would mean they are rafting on the Hantangang river at Cheorwon (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=cheorwon+south+korea&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Cheorwon-gun,+Gangwon-do,+South+Korea&ll=38.186652,127.300504&spn=0.00304,0.006883&t=h&z=18), very close to the DMZ.

They look happy and he's dropping his backpack...the stadium is the pitstop, perhaps?
I'm assuming this is Jill and Thomas, and not Nick and Vicki.

From the preview especially the cap, in which I assume is Thomas and Jill running to the pit stop mat, I see no sign of Travelocity gnome, so I assume this will be the 1st season in a while without a task related on finding one of the gnomes.

There's a shot in the preview with a guy kicking a block of wood. looks like it could be some sort of task?
That's probably a route info task or maybe one half of the detour. They have to find a US/South Korean/UN soldier and kick a board to get their next clue. Probably to the roadblock?

At some points they are self driving and at others are looking for taxis. ???
Here's the road sign Brooke and Claire are driving by, I would guess they are driving from the airport to the first clue and ditch the cars somewhere.

Their choice to the left there is Donggureung tombs:
Donggureung (The East Nine Tombs) is located just east of the Seoul Metropolitan area. It was the burial ground of some of the Joseon (Chosôn) dynasty (1392-1910) kings and queens.
I believe B/C are at the circled intersection below with the tombs to their left and the city hall to their right. It appears that Hwy 6 will bring them all the way from the airport to where they are there.

I'm going to guess that the task is: Find the guy with the right headband and he'll kick open the block for you. I don't think the teams will need to do the kicking.

I think you mean Dongducheon which is the city where Camp Casey is located. Donggureung is a similar name but a different location. If they do turn north towards Donggureung they will be headed in the correct direction if they are on their way to the Camp.

Have we seen the Travelocity Roaming Gnome yet in the race? That means it's either on this leg or the finale (very awkward) that it'll appear.

Teams could hold the piece for the taekwondoka(?) to kick the clue out of it. Would that make sense?

Has it appeared consistently in every race?
Ever since Travelocity took over as TAR main sponsor, I think there has always been a Gnome related task, but I might be mistaken, I did miss one or two races in between.

A gathering (http://www.hong-kong-travel.org/Statue-Square/)?
Quote
Statue Square Statue Square is famous for the Philipinos that gather there on every Sunday, otherwise it is just a little square in the middle of Central. However, it is surrounded by some of the most important institutions in Hong Kong and the region, such as the City Hall, the Legislative Council, the HSBC Building and the Bank of China Tower.

Quick thoughts:
B/C are doing the rafting and Claire is also doing the skating
Brooke is trying to kick the board so I guess this is a RB and the team member must do the kicking
Because of these 2 things I wonder if there is a double RB
Jill and Thomas are also doing the raft
This one is going to be a challenge to cap
If course it's Brooke who says the title

I wonder if this is Brooke clowning around or does she really have to break the board. The board is pretty far off the ground.
I really can't tell, it is possible that she selects the soldier and they do it.

It looks similar to the detour task in the South Korea leg of TAR 4. I would say, very similar. It might well be the roadblock, but they have used tae kwon do before, and in South Korea, in less.

A soccer field ringed by a running track and four tall poles? This (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&hq=&ll=37.917198,127.079949&spn=0.001526,0.003441&t=h&z=19) looks like the place. You won't find it on Daum, though; Camp Casey just doesn't exist: the whole camp area is replaced by generic vegetation. A line map of the camp here (http://odin.aafes.com/pacrim/korea_north/casey/map.htm). About 22 crow-miles between the soccer field and the rafting bridge, so maybe not Detour choices.
nvm, Brooke looks like she's holding a RB card

If Nick and Vicki departed in the dark while the other teams depart in sunlight, then that is consistent with the suggestion I made that Nick-Vicki may be 8 to 10 hours behind the other teams. I haven't seen anything to suggest to me that they catch up to the other teams in the caps. Or am I missing something?

Yes, I think so. The cluebox is in the middle of the old (unused) bridge; compare the speckled roadbed behind N/V to 53-54. And compare the railing in 19 to this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68558939@N00/3529002133/).

If I'm not misheard the voice at caps 60, I heard Nat's voice there so N/K might be choosing the rafting...

No Statue Square. (:;)
Teams were released the same place they were after the TAR 11 HK leg, outside the Conrad Hotel in Admiralty.
We know they were running 5-6 hours behind from spoilers...I was told by several of our sources...
I would deduce that the three leading teams had a longer wait for their flights to Seoul than Nick and Vicki once they were released from the pit stop, which would be enough to reduce the time difference.

I wonder what's out there in Guri. It's true that the 43 is a straight shot to Cheorwon (rafting), but if you're coming from the airport there are easier ways of getting there. And to get to Guri area they would have already passed the palace seen in the intro caps.

theschnauzers is spot on in his analysis of the reason that N/V made up some time on the first three teams. As Neobie has already posted, there is an 8 hour gap in flights from Hong Kong to Seoul.....from 1630 on June 13 to ~0025 on June 14....when there are 3 flights in a space of 15 minutes......then another gap from 0040 to 1015 for the next flght...........its very easy for TPTB to manipulate the release time from the Pit Stop to force the first 3 teams to catch one of those after midnght flights and then Nick/Vicki catch the 1015 flight.

Brook/Claire are on Highway 6 eastbound in Guri because making a left onto Highway 43 (northbound) takes you to Donggureung (or Donggu-Reung) which is immediately north of Guri. (It shows up as a green blob on the Google Maps.) Since Incheon International to Camp Casey skirts northern Seoul, and here they are in eastern Seoul.....so either they could be lost on the way to the rafting, or lost on the way to Camp Casey after finding the palace, or maybe another Route Info stop.
It is a bit unusual to have that many frames of just a location shot...so makes me wonder if it is significant somehow? ???
It looks church-y, to me. Maybe it's taken from when the teams are cutting through Seoul to get to Guri....it's almost like they are on an expressway viaduct in an urban area :duno:

Thomas is also seen on the rafting. If, as we suppose, rafting and ice-skating are the detour options does this mean that they did both, failed ice-scating and did rafting and still came first at pit stop? Is there another explanation? Perhaps they are not detour options but general task? :duno:

Claire is also seen doing both the skating and the rafting. Ever since the preview came out I have been thinking this leg might have a double roadblock. The skating and the headbands would be the roadblocks with the rafting being a general task similar to the department store task of TAR 16's double RB leg.

Not the 6, I think; probably the eastbound Bukbu expressway just above it. The sign in the promo cap would seem to imply a T-junction. Also, we're looking for a divided road with a median and frontage parking. The only thing that fits the bill is the feeder street cars use to access the northbound 43 from the Bukbu (the partial cloverleaf nearby is for the 100). Here's the map (http://local.daum.net/map/index.jsp?map_type=TYPE_SKYVIEW&map_hybrid=true&q=&urlX=529746&urlY=1141405&urlLevel=4); it's one of the few streets in the area without streetview.

I don't think the skating is a RB. In caps 43-44 of the first promo you can see two people together on the ice ring and both have a problem standing up. Besides I think that in this sport you can have a relay.

Amazing Race 17 Episode: "I'm Surrounded by Ninjas" Season 17, Episode 11 Episode Synopsis: The race continues in Seoul, where teams participate in white-water rafting and speed-skating challenges. At the pit stop, the final four teams are reduced to the three pairs who will race to the finish line for the top $1 million prize. Original Air Date: Dec 5, 2010

Just received this from Paul, who is Korean and studying in the US.
Quote
He says:
I was looking at the RFF and just wanted to help y'all.
1. Capture 14 shows 철원래프팅리조트 (Cheolwon Rafting Resort) on the boat. It is located near Hantan River. So the bridge someone found on Daum is correct I believe. And that location is in same town as polar plunge task in season 4.
2. Captures 20-25. I think it is subway. I see the window and bar to hold. Near Dongducheon in Navy line (Line 1) it is above ground. I'm not 100% sure though.
3. Capture 44. It is Mokdong Ice Link. Google Image it and it will show similar picture and brief location within Seoul.
4. The roadsign in capture 18-19 is for the T intersection right above the red circle in the map of Slowhatch's post. I see children protected area sign which I believe is for 인창초등학교 (Inchang Elementry School).
5. I also believe the pit stop was Sang-Am Worldcup Stadium. J/T are getting off Worldcup Stadium Station (Subway line 6) in the preview.
Hope this helps=)
And enjoy TAR in Korea!
Also rafting and skating are very far location so I think at least one of them are not detour option for sure...
:bigwelcome and many thanks, Paul!! :hearts:

CBS does want people to watch this next episode, so 1 can expect them to be vague on just how far behind NV r. However, I have discovered in my time of watching TAR that anything, absolutely anything, can happen. I am simply assuming NV r eliminated b\c it's the most logical guess.

The Detour choice is perhaps water or ice, since NK and BC are seen doing the rafting. Of course, BC are also seen doing the skating. I think JT do both too, this has to be them on the raft, that is a male arm.

That's a route info card she's holding at the bridge, and a RB card at Camp Casey. I'm guessing this ep is southward bound: starting with the rafting, moving south to the RB, then the Detour Skate/unknown (or maybe skating is another general task), then finally riding the metro to the Pitstop.

Several options: 1. The skating is part of a Detour and we don't know the other part. 2. That Route Info clue is after the rafting. nvm why would they be wearing ponchos after already being soaked on the raft? 3. Both the skating and rafting are Route Info tasks. 4. The rafting is part of a Detour and we don't know the other part.
We know that the headband\karate task is the RB, so that's out of the question.

I'm pretty sure they don't actually cross over into North Korea. According to the state department travel across the DMZ from South to North Korea is prohibited. :rules:

BTW, the promo says teams travel the the South Korean border, not into North Korea. Brooke is only quipping about North Korea putting the other teams in a timeout.

It seems they are required to wear the vests when they ride in the back of the trucks. They don't appear to be lifejackets, rather safety vests.

When the teams went to South Korea in season four, they had to travel on a highway that did approach and parallel the DMZ. In fact, one team made a wrong turn and encountered convoys headed away from the DMZ, which is when that team realized they were heading the wrong way.
Wouldn't surprise me if that were to happen again if there's any self-driving involved.

Racing report Amazing Race Season 17, Episode 10 Film date 2010-06-11 - 2010-06-13
Teams leave the pit stop at the Lalbagh fort in the following order:
1.
Jill & Thomas
08:25
2.
Nick & Vicki
13:59
(+5:34)
3.
Nat & Kat
16:05
(+7:40)
4.
Brook & Claire
17:15
(+8:50)
Let me start by saying that I think Nick/Vicki's time deficit will not be overcome in this leg.
However, looking at maf's Racing report it is interesting to see the time deficit that we erased by flight bunching.
Like I said before, absolutely anything can happen suring the course of the race. One must also take into acccount that six hours is theminimum, not the maximum. We have no idea how long NV tried to Detour before taking the penalty.

I am reminded of TAR12, in which a route info task in Osaka, actually allowed TK & Rachel to almost catch up with the other teams that were way ahead of them, and that's considering the several flights that were available from there to Taipei which was the following destination.
From the promo I don't see signs of something similar happening to Nick & Vicky, but it would been ideal to make this leg 11 more exciting, considering the amount of flights leaving from Hong Kong to Seoul might be even more abundant than Osaka - Taipei in TAR12.

We do know Nick/Vicki were still attempting the second detour option at 4 a.m., and that was before they decided to take the penalty. Then they had to get to Phil at the pitstop to be checked in. since the penalty won't be applied until their departure on the next leg.
Even if you assume that the last team to check in before N/V was at 3 a.m., the time gap would still have been a couple of hours; and I think the other three teams finished the task before then. And unlike flying out of Dakka, flying out of Hong Kong was a lot easier in terms of the number of flight options.
For that reason alone, I don't see Nick/Vicki being able to use the flight schedules to catch up completely. There's going to be a significant gap in Seoul, the question is how much.

We know how much from the spoiler sources. 5+ hours at the RB.

Actually, theschnauzers, the flight schedules from Hong Kong to Seoul do halp N/V catch up some. Mainly due to TPTB extending the pit stop. There is an 8 hour gap in flights from HKG to ICN (Seoul), from 4pm to midnight....the first three teams were released, so that they had to sit at HKG for that gap....negating the 6 hour detour penalty. The main reason that N/V are behind so much.......there is another gap in flights after the first three teams left HKG of about 6-7 hours.......before N/V could get out of HKG.
In retrospect, it appears to me that if N/V had of just taken a nap and tried to finish the boat detour after the sun came up.....they would have been able to catch the same flights with the other teams......The combination of taking so long and then the penalty, doomed them, which is what it is supposed to do. It is hard to see that far ahead when you are dead tired and hungry......Nick was hungy, but Vicki just had had a filling meal (actually several, considering the ones left in the toilet......:)...)......whether she enjoyed it or not........she had the nourishment....Nick didnt.
As they said in the after leg confessional.......they just had a really bad day all around.

I doubt they thought about a NEL while they were tired on the boat. If they had thought about a NEL, they might have gotten to the nap until sunrise option.

Hey everyone! I've been reading this forum for a long time and I thought I'd start posting :p I love all the work you do here!
So, I haven't seen anyone mention this, but in the promo we see that for the skating challenge J/T are wearing orange number tags and that Claire is wearing a yellow number tag. There is also a pair skating together that wear blue number tags, but they look like they're just professionals (and both seemed to have short, brown hair), so I don't think that's any team.
In the preview I recognized this: (http://i51.[banned image hosting site].com/fbl5x1.png)
You can see both a person wearing a yellow number tag and a person wearing an orange number tag. I'm thinking this means that B/C and J/T were at that challenge at the same time.
I'm not sure what to think about the lack of N/K in the promo and preview. I'm personally hoping they remain ahead of J/T and B/C, but you never know!

More and more the rafting is not seeming like a detour option to me. If it is then JT and BC both changed to skating, how do you change off of the rafting? It looks a lot like a general task which means we don't know the other detour option. I suspect that NK choose it and are not shown b/c the creators of the promo did not want to introduce another task at this point.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. We see B/C, J/T and N/K do the rafting, so it's looking like it's just a general task and that B/C and J/T chose the skating detour. I wonder what the other Detour could be.
Thank you NoLongerLurking :)

This is a little funny...adding this for further discussion in spec too.
This cap from the ep 11 promo does not match the clothes we see our racers wearing this ep:

I noticed it too and figured they could be taking random caps from other episodes.
And the ice skating task with Brooke's shrieking/screaming voiceover as she falls, might actually be Nat and Kat just that they used Brooke's voiceover? It has been done before and it's not impossible.

Not sure what episode Nick & Vicki's part of the cap is from, but the other three teams definitely seem to be wearing the clothes they were wearing in episode ten.

Well . . . Nat & Kat's are definitely from episode ten. I remember them wearing that. Brook & Claire's might be from Bangladesh in episode nine. Not sure about Jill & Thomas's or Nick & Vicki's.

There seem to be some different clothes so it is a mystery...
Nick is in gray at the checkin airport, red when he fights with Vic...
There is a cap of that exit from the subway pic for Nat and Kat in ep 10 ...but did we actually see that? If so, their clothes are right then...

Even though I have been an outspoken Speed Bump hater, I must admit that NV's Speed Bump last night actually looked like a real task...it was a far cry from sitting on ice furniture!

I know...the editors couldn't control NV's stupidity. I also wish they would have used that SB in a leg that mattered. Although they probably thought that leg was going to matter...

Honestly, quitting the Detour was not more of a matter of stupidity, but the refusal to work together as a team.
And producers would not have expected Nick and Vicki to quit the Detour. They are not actually prophets you know; who can look into the future? Based on what we've seen, we know that Nick and Vicki barely missed their Korean flight, so without the 6 hours penalty, you'll have my bet that Nick and Vicki will be bunched together with the other teams, and the Speedbump will MATTER alot. As we know NELs are pre-determined, they definitely thought that last elimination leg matters right? Even Phil said, "The last team to check in.. WILL be eliminated"?

Not working togeter as a team is stupidity. I think that if Nick had not acted like a jerk, they could have finished the Detour, been NEL'ed, and still made the midnight flight. Who knows who would have been eliminated then. :duno:

Just watched the episode so i'm late...
When Nat and Kat arrived at the subway station I have such a quick flashback to the Season 1 Finale with Frank and Margaritta losing the subway to I remember the pitstop... ending in second place at the mat... So i'm crossing fingers that won't happen again.
