Yes. And as a matter of fact, the last babushka we saw was the lady who handed cards to the teams in Russia S13. (random info?)

Resources: Yandex offers a superior-resolution street view of St. Petersburg (http://maps.yandex.ru/-/CRWEqmd), but there's no English interface. The controls are at the top-right: the binocular button toggles the street view; the drop-down box on the right lets you choose map, satellite, or hybrid; and sharing-links are created in the field above (circled).

There may be a Switchback of sorts, but it doesn't appear to be caviar.  The glimpse of the piano seemed like it was similar to TAR 10 Ukraine detour with the sheet music; there might be another similar task that I can't place at the moment as well.

It seems to me the idea of the Switchback is same location, same task as a previous season -- neither would apply here.

A conservatory, perhaps? And the word on the screen, as best I can translate it, is "surrendered." A Potemkin reference, maybe? I haven't seen the whole film.

This shot was taken between 3:35 and 4:05 pm (assumes June 5th).

So it looks like the first clue in St Petersburg is the spoiler clue of teams spotted at St. Isaac's Cathedral (based on the flight arrival time of 1:33 pm).

yeah I agree, so we have 3 tasks,

The Babushka
Pianos
and the Film!

I think the film and the piano task are detour choices while the Babushka task is the roadblock. (just speculation)

The babuska task is planting potatos........with apologies to Dan Quale.

The Hermitage Museum complex. From left to right: Hermitage Theatre – Old Hermitage – Small Hermitage – Winter Palace (the "New Hermitage" is situated behind the Old Hermitage). (bold is from Wikipedia) The "front" of The Hermitage faces the river and the "back" faces the square and the General Staff Building. The public entrance is in the courtyard to the Winter Palace.

Chateau......the pic you posted is of the General Staff Building...across the square from the Winter Palace. Part of it is used as part of The Hermitage. There are actually 6 buildings used for The Hermitage Museum. In that respect, it is very similar to our Smithsonian Museum in DC.

Yup. I agree. I think the Detour is the Piano and the Film.

This may be redundant information, but I'm giving what I can give. The word on the screen behind Thomas can be transliterated as "Sdalas" (without the last letter. I forgot what it stands for). Random info?

I can't decide yet -- I can't tell from the caps whether we have both teammates performing the manure task or the film task. The piano task is definitely a detour option.

I think I've found the piano task: Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beloselsky-Belozersky_Palace), 41 Nevsky prospect. The floor, chandeliers, woodwork etc. looks like a match. (photo source (http://www.souvenirplus.com/eng/palaces/))

Yeah, the household plot (if that's what it is) looks very generic. So does the film studio. The only guess I could make--and it's only a guess--is the SP Documentary Film Studio (http://wikimapia.org/8651120/St-Petersburg-Documentary-Film-Studios), about the same distance from St. Isaac's as BB palace.

You "kinda" can. In cap #19, you can see Kat (I think) in the background, also looking through the movies/whatever it is. :)

There is a new promo  :hearts: :hearts:
However in caps 9 10 (first promo)and also in caps 13...18  we can see jill  and thomas(see the clothes ), so they try both tasks...(I think it' s a detour)
Also Nat and Kat appear in cap 19 ...21 ,and in the new promo we see them on piano's task...
so they both change..
Maybe also gary and mallory, because they appear in cinema's task(in the new promo),but  during the interview mallory  mimes  a piano (so I think the try both tasks)...

This is just a speculation .....I think the next eliminated team  will be gary and mallory :waves: :waves:

The one in front looks like Kevin, as you said, and the one in the back looks like Mallory.

This is just a speculation .....I think the next eliminated team  will be gary and mallory :waves: :waves:
I think so, too.  They were the only team with no real sightings, either potentially, partially, or fully substantiated, after St. Petersburg.  Chad & Stephanie have a possible Oman sighting.  Michael & Kevin have a possible decoy sighting in Hong Kong on a ferry (I think).  Nick & Vicki also have a potential Hong Kong sighting, likely in race mode if it's true.  Add that to Brook & Claire, Nat & Kat, and Jill & Thomas all being spotted in Hong Kong and later in South Korea, and Gary & Mallory pretty much stick out like a sore thumb.  So I'm also calling them out this Sunday.

And that?  Will suck.

Any chance for this leg being a non-elimination? I know it's too soon for US TAR (we just had one 2 weeks ago) but with the subsequent leg being pegged as an elimination ("final showdown for elimination... russian lawn game") could it be so? Gary/Mallory leaving now would be pretty upsetting considering how well they've been doing...   :(

They've never, ever taken the F7 beyond the sixth episode (or sixth leg, in TAR6's case, as that one did have it happen in episode seven) before cutting down to the F6.  They might have if this were a thirteen-legger, but since it's a twelve-legger . . . I don't think so.  So that, plus everything here, as well as the sightings, points to me to thinking this next episode, if it has a Pit Stop and is not a TBC, will end with an elimination.  Also, I think episode seven will be the F6 elimination, making the rest of the race a fairly predictable NEL-Elimination-NEL-Elimination-F3 scheme for the last five legs.

Haha yeah, I've noticed the NEL pattern for US TAR. Ah well, I can only hope they surprise us again with the NEL this season. The NEL-EL-NEL-EL-F3 is one of my greatest peeves about TAR because it screams predictability.  (:;)

Ah well, continue spoiling then.  :hearts: This leg is gonna be awesome I think. (except the outcome, maybe)

Actually, I tend to agree dragoondaniel that this is a NEL (or a possible TBC).  My DVR description for the circus episode also mentions Russian lawn game, 2 racers, and elimination.  The way that it is worded tends me to believe this leg is a NEL and the last place team from this episode has to learn a Russian game to continue.  (Of course, TAR tends to word things vaguely, but....)

The Russian game is part of a "final showdown," though.  No way it's a Speed Bump.

Nat & Kat are in the film room and in the piano room.
Mallory mockingly playing the piano could suggest they tried the piano Detour or that the piano Detour seemed annoying so they chose the Film Detour.

Does the Movie task is a real detour? Or could it be a RB? Why does (in caps) Mallory ran to her dad and hug him? Does Gary doesn't allow to help Mallory? Oh gosh, i wish they're ok there... :(

We see Nat and Kat and Thomas and Jill all in the film pile at the same time...so it does appear to be a Detour choice.

I wouldn't blame anyone who used it on them.  They've been pretty solid.  Also, maybe the bigger target got past the U-Turn before it could be used, so Gary & Mallory got hit with it.

True, but they've never, ever had a F9 NEL before...so who knows!

well episode 7 was still Leg 6. It had been planned to be 6 legs. but its illegal to beg in Hungary so they made it a double leg. it was still leg 6.

but I do think it is a NEL.

Peach I think we have better chances being cast as a team of racers then production getting rid of the U-Turn.  Hate it so, so much.

I don't know if this can be a hint.
but I was watching the videos of the teams they post after the episode.
Nick and Vicky think Gary/Mallory are strong (with the high spec of them u turned)
Chad/Steph think Brook and Claire are strong.
and Jill and Thomas think they arent a target anymore.

The "surrendered" subtitle comes up around 1hr 24 minutes into the film - just after the bicycle battalion rallies to the soviets. "The cossacks... ...surrendered".
And this picture from the movie matches cap number 17 from the latest promo...

I don't think it was Eisenstein's film. How about this:

        Surrender

        USA, 1927, 77 minutes, B&W, silent
        Directed by Edward Sloman

Surrender, one of the few American silent feature films to deal with life in a European Jewish shtetl is filled with the details of village life and Jewish customs. Based on "Lea Lyon" by Alexander Brody, the film’s story unfolds on the eve of WWI in an Austrian village where the chief Rabbi's daughter, Lea, encounters Prince Constantine, a Russian officer.

The two are immediately taken with each other, but Lea's father denounces the Russian as an oppressor and bids him farewell. When war breaks out and Prince Constantine comes back to invade the village, he demands Lea in exchange for the life of the village. Lea’s passion for the Prince, and her concern for the lives of the villagers, conflict with her father's view that it is right to resist such a sinful demand. Although Lea makes a decision, the course of the war and the Russian revolution ultimately determine who is considered a hero and who a traitor in this plot-twisting melodrama about passions both political and personal.

Note that Prince Constantine was a Russian officer and this is related to the Russian Revolution.  You have the Russian ties there.

Nick and Mallory both look to be holding a theatre style score, not unlike the programs that the audience can buy at musicals and such.

Vicki seems to most definitely be holding a Detour card, fwiw.

Well, it is a Swedish train which is being run by SJ, Statens Järnvägar. This literally means The State Railroads, but the company was privatized a number of years ago. The numbers are just the type of the engine and the cars. And that kind of engine is pretty common (AFAIK) on the northern lines. So they will not help very much.

Well, if I didn't have reason to believe Nat & Kat would survive this leg, this would probably indicate to me that they survived.  Of course, there have been examples of teams making quotes and being eliminated at the end of the leg.

Uppsala>Arlanda must be a popular run (cap below).
I wonder if they were told to take a certain train #/line; I couldn't find a good shot of the info card and
it might have occurred to some team to just drive through the "night" from Narvik.

On a different topic, production almost wasted a lot of money (save for N/V)  with the piano task. It would have been easy, despite the
cacophony, if you knew the tunes (I'm embarrassed to admit I only recognized two). I think the people who created and tested the task
knew the music and didn't realize how hard it would be if someone was just hearing it for the first time.

I'm not so sure TPTB were aiming for an easy task.  Most people these days, haven't trying learning an instrument or choir, so they are not at all familiar with reading sheet music. And I hadn't heard of two of them before, so my guess is the music task was designed to be the harder task, unless a team had a at least one member who had a really good ear for music.
The film task was easier if you were patient and observant about the film being projected.  A couple of the teams hit upon the words showing up on screen, and looking for those in the film strips the teams had to go through; but the unstated factor was how many of those strips were the correct film -- we weren't told.
Clearly this was a dual "needle in a haystack" detour, devious and difficult, and one of the more challenging detours I think we've ever seen on TAR.  It had to be driving the teams crazy unless they kept their cool from the time they arrived in St. Petersberg until they reached the pit stop.
The roadblock wasn't a piece of cake, either. The Cyrillic alphabet would be difficult if you haven't been exposed to it (as some Cyrllic letters have quite different sounds that the Roman alphabet), and teams had to be observant about the signs and the instructions for the task. I loved the babushkas in this task, they were well coached about what sort of stupid things the Americans would do and the snark was unmistakable. (Reminded me of the Bakery babushka on an earlier visit to Russia)
This, to me was a well designed leg (the 24-plus hours of travel after leaving the pit stop, having to use trains, planes, taxis along the way before they got to the first clue box in St.Petersburg). I'm one of the few who wasn't surprised that this was an NEL. I had suggested as much when we first learned there would be a second St. Petersburg leg, (as that has become the practice in the leg design in recent seasons when there are two legs in the same city or urban area. (Was the case in Ghana, right?)
I do wonder if Nick and Vicki really how damned lucky they've been to avoid elimination. They've averaged 7th place in the season to date, and came in 7th this week with 7 teams left.  The odds are against them (though Rebecca and Adam are proof that badly performing teams can make final three, not to mention that other team that was on the Race the last time they were in Russia proper.)

C/S also completed that task!

I think it is like the symbols task in Ghana where under the pressure nobody save Connor/Jonathan figured out that the decoder key was just around the corner, and here under the pressure nobody figured out that the better way to do it, even if you're not music inclined, is to focus on just one before moving on to the next one. Still, it was an awesome task!!! and I understand that with 50 other pianos playing at the same time it gets harder, but not impossible! You just need a different approach and focus.

I think the easiest approach (For me anyway) would be to take all the sheet music then listen to the three being played, one by one. That probably seems easier for me because I know how to read sheet music, but I can't believe that no teams thought it would be easier to take them on one at a time before Nick and Vicki completely Bald Snarked it.

When Nick & Kat came down from the tower Nick tried to deceive Kevin & Claire by talking about the DS13 they saw. Technically that was not a lie (since they actually saw it), but he also said they were going to it and that was not really true.

But I wonder if it would not have been more effective to answer the question "Did you find anything?" with something like "Yes, we saw the next route marker". That is technically not a lie (the figuring could count as a route marker) but could possibly cause the next team to spend a lot of time to look for a yellow and red flag.
