We believe that TAR 17 will be departing from an EAST COAST city and traveling in an easterly direction.

Once we are sure that the race is safely underway and that the starting line has occured, we will release more info on the start city and the believed destination city. Until then, watch those tweets!

all speculation to one of the spec threads please....

The Gloucester Sea Jacket Marine Paints Manufactory puts the boats in the straits between the Inner and Outer Harbors.

(I know, I haven't updated the TAR 16 maps yet, give me until my school term ends!)

A lot of information will come in over the next few weeks and it's easy to miss stuff or get confused. If you need a quick refresh, you can check out the first post of the Timelines thread -- it is updated pretty regularly. Have fun!

How to get to Stonehenge from Heathrow:

Road seems to be the most feasible method, as both train and bus stops are a few miles from Stonehenge.

Follow signs to the M4 West.
Continue for about 2 miles and come off at junction 4b onto the M25 South bound.
Follow the signs for Gatwick Airport. From the M25, exit at junction 12 for the M3 motorway towards Basingstoke.
Once on the M3 follow it to junction 8 signed A303 Andover.
Continue on the A303 ALL the way until you reach a roundabout.
Go straight over this and 2 miles on bear right onto the A344 and the car park is on the right hand side about 500 metres on.

Opening times
Spring
1 Apr to 31 May
09.30 - 18.00

So there will probably be a time equaliser for all the teams waiting for it to open, unless the 2nd flight is delayed sufficiently that they don't make it there before 9:30am

Extra Notes:
Except on special or arranged occasions, visitors are unable to walk amongst the stones

*wonders if WRP might have arranged for access for the teams?

Discover the story of the original Salisbury and take the family for a day out to Old Sarum, 2 miles north of where the city stands now. The mighty Iron Age hill fort was where the first cathedral once stood and the Romans, Normans and Saxons have all left their mark.

Today, 5,000 years of history are told through graphic interpretation panels on site. Families, heritage lovers and walkers can enjoy a great value day out at Old Sarum- you could even bring a picnic and enjoy the fantastic views across the Wiltshire countryside. The gift shop has a delicious range of ice-creams and exclusive English Heritage gifts and produce. Wooden bows and arrows are also on sale to help the kids imagine what life was like all those years ago!

Most relevant to destinations are:

# at the Salisbury Cathedral with teams from THE AMAZING RACE 17 wtf is a roadblock lol

The Amazing Race isn't that big a thing here in Britain. It's only shown on 2 really obscure channels that generally don't get many viewers and it's usually the same seasons over and over again.

Amazing Race 17 now taping, cast identified, includes four beauty queens
The Amazing Race 17 »
by Andy Dehnart / June 2, 2010, 3:26 PM

Quote
The Amazing Race 17 started production a week ago today, and already, several of the teams and their destinations have been identified.

The teams were heavily photographed when the race began last Wednesday in Boston, which is a nice change from the series of Los Angeles starts. As always, the frighteningly resourceful Reality Fan Forum posters have identified several of the teams. (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,21996.0.html) (The site is also compiling sightings from around the world and possible eliminations in this timeline thread (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,21999.0.html), which obviously contains spoilers.)

Continuing with the beauty queen kick that the producers seem to be on (Ericka, Caite), the cast includes not one but four beauty queens/pageant winners/whatever. Four! According to the site, they are Mallory Ervin, Miss Kentucky, who’s racing with her dad; Miss South Carolina Stephanie Smith, who’s paired with her boyfriend; and Mrs. Colorado 2009 Megan Yarberry and her friend Mrs. Nebraska 2009 Jennifer Hart.

Among the other racers is YouTube star KevJumba, Kevin Wu, is racing with his father, and a team of two Princeton grads who are members of the a cappella group the Nassoons. The University Press Club has details and interviews with Connor Diemand-Yauman and Jonathan Schwartz.

Yep, we goofed. :(

Amazing Race 17 may only have two beauty queens after site retracts team ID

by Andy Dehnart / June 7, 2010, 2:32 PM

Quote
The web site that tracks and attempts to identify Amazing Race contestants has retracted its identification of two beauty queen contestants, which means there may be just two instead of four beauty queens on the 17th season.

A note posted in the cast identification thread says, “RFF regrets to say that this identification may be incorrect, so these names will be removed while we investigate further. We do sincerely apologize to both women if we have caused either them or their families any distress.” They’re no longer confident in their identification of Mrs. Colorado 2009 Megan Yarberry and her potential teammate, Mrs. Nebraska 2009 Jennifer Hart. The discussion of the possible misidentification goes into greater detail.

starting point: Eastern Point Yacht Club - Gloucester, Massachusetts
Leg 1: England
Leg 2 & 3: Ghana
Leg 4: Naples, Italy
Leg 5: Sweden - *
Leg 6: Saint Petersburg, Russia - *
Leg 7: Oman - *
Leg 8: Bangladesh
Leg 9: Hong Kong
Leg 10 & 11: South Korea
Final City: Los Angeles, CA

* - will there be another Swithback road block task just like what happened on TAR 15?

This season's cast of Racers will travel over 32,000 miles, covering four continents and 30 cities, with first-time visits to Bangladesh, Ghana and the Arctic Circle.  Additionally, for the first time in the history of the Race, the Team to finish in first place during the premiere episode will be awarded a surprise, game-changing advantage.
30 cities? That's a lot of cities. That can't be right, can it?

They might count the cities that the teams pass through (drive through) or maybe cities that have only 1 RI and then move on to the next.

:waves: yo, tar fans.  anyone else notice the first TAR commercial during BB tonight?  Briefly showed a plane, racers running, a field (possibly Stonehenge), and a medieval knight on horseback holding a jousting lance.

OK, here's my take on all this:  Stonehenge is on the plains of Salisbury in the county of Wiltshire.  Just so happens there is a knight's training facility at the Druids Lodge Polo Club, also located in the immediate area.  Wonder if they are related.  Feel free to follow this possible lead.

It's kind of interesting that they are going eastward once again considering the fact that TAR 13 and 15 went westward.

I think our knights can be found here...
http://www.knightsofmiddleengland.com/flashsite/tv-film.htm

They are based in Warwick which is quite far from Salisbury, but they seem to be mobile so they could have been at the Druids Lodge still.
The knight shown in the promo seems to be the same.

So do the knights travel to them?? Or do they travel to the knights? Aye...there's the rub!

The only problem with Stage Fort Park is that there is no dock to unload the lobster boats that they travel in to get to the starting line. I still think it is at the East Point Yacht Club across the bay. Both have similar surface geology, btw...

I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that those vidcaps are of Eastern Point Yacht Club.  See the railing in the left hand side of the shot?  That is the railing that leads down tro the dock where they get off the boat.  My best friend grew up two houses away from EPYC and I basically grew up wih him and his brothers in that house.  When we were young we would go to record hops at EPYC.

In the map below they line up in the northwest corner of where the pool is.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Eastern+Point+Yacht+Club,+Gloucester,+MA&sll=42.454368,-70.999832&sspn=0.211259,0.673599&ie=UTF8&hq=Eastern+Point+Yacht+Club,&hnear=Gloucester,+Essex,+Massachusetts&ll=42.582631,-70.664632&spn=0.000412,0.001316&t=h&z=20&iwloc=A (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Eastern+Point+Yacht+Club,+Gloucester,+MA&sll=42.454368,-70.999832&sspn=0.211259,0.673599&ie=UTF8&hq=Eastern+Point+Yacht+Club,&hnear=Gloucester,+Essex,+Massachusetts&ll=42.582631,-70.664632&spn=0.000412,0.001316&t=h&z=20&iwloc=A)

I'll make a google map of their destination from leaving The dock in the inner harbor to the outer harbor and Eastern Point Yacht Club and then the only way they can get off Eastern Point and down Eastern point Road and onto East Main Street where my wife ran into the string of smart cars and gave directions to one of the teams. After that  don't know exactly what route they took but up til that point I am 100% certain.

In the Google Map Below I outline the route that they took with a line depicting the route-

Hey! I think I saw the same promo. I came on here hoping someone had caught it and put up caps already. Anyway, it was during Big Brother. It was delayed here in the Bay Area because of football, so BB came on at 1:37AM. Saw some sort of task involving teams in some body of water, and one team getting frustrated (might have been Jill and Thomas?) And the promo ended with Chad and Stephanie and I also noticed that they looked like they were sitting in the backseat of a very small, tight automobile of some sort...

Okay, that promo shows the start line, the Smart cars from the start to the airport in Boston, and a task..looks like they have to get a purple flag in the water. My guess is that this is a start line task and is in Gloucester, but can't confirm. Steph and Chad are looking way happy, and we know they were one of the 3 teams on the first flight.

Working on getting the promo for y'all!!

Promo! Sorry I don't have the actual promo video, and these are not HD, but  :wohoo:

Clearly shows the start, the Smart Car, the road from Gloucester (?) and then...a task!

Is this a start line task getting them on the first flight (only three)??

Or is this the comp for the Express Pass? Or  does that go later to the winner of the first leg??

The purple could be a banner for the knight task as well... lots to think about!

Chad and Stephanie look thrilled, and we do know they made the first flight.

I think he is pretty close, Peach. If you look at Caps 1,2,3, then Katie/Rachel, Gary/Mallory, Jill/Thomas and Ron/Tony are at the end of the line and right in front of the path to the docks. I think teams on the far end of the line can run around the outcropping that Phil is standing in front of and split him. I think they are all closer to Phil than his position indicates. Ron basically hurdles the other outcrop. It appears that teams in the middle of the starting formation try to funnel through the gap and get sort of all mixed up. I think the camera is probably next to the building at the top or the satelite view and teams will run toward it and then pass in front of it to the cars.

That twitvid maybe the most painful looking moment I've ever seen on TAR. How did that happen? It didn't look like the melon was overly covered by the slingshot when she launched it. I'm sure that it was unexpected or they would have had them wearing safety helmets.

It might be a little peek into the motivation level of the victim that she didn't seem to want to get back to the target shooting, but I'd imagine that I'd have a slight lapse in focus too if I had a splitting headache and blurry vision.  :colors

I'm sure Claire is just thrilled that they showed thast shot over...and over... and in slow motion!
That really did look painful.  However, there was something about this clip that made me like this team, and I wasnt much of a fan before.

I counted 12 stations and maybe 3 (standing) suits of armor (it's hard to tell with the camera angles).

I kinda observed that Claire was kinda wet. Perhaps due to the water task that involves getting the knight's flag? Oh. Wait, near the Knight Costume was a flag. Maybe one team member (or both) get the flag from the water, put it beside the knight, and target the knight.
*SPECULATION*
Also, there is a pair of girls (maybe a team?) running away from them.

I am going to present a hypothesis on how Melon-Backfire might have happened:

Claire is shown puling with all her force to get maximum torque on the slingshot. It it was aimed a bit low, not clearing one of the wooden support structures could cause such a result.

Poor Claire  :'(

I think that both members have to retrieve the flag from the water. Brook's hair was kind of wet too. And the girls running away may be Nat and Kat.

Couldn't it be a water related detour/general task instead of being part of this task.  we see in a promo(chad and stephanie i think) are both in some kind of lake??

If that's true it also means that this task is the one before the pitstop

Thanks for the screencaps, peach!  It makes it so much easier for us mere mortals!   After studying them, here's my thoughts:
~The team running away appears to be Andi & Jenna.
~ I dont think Brook & Claires hair looks particulary wet.  Sweaty maybe, but not as if they have been swimming in a lake, so I think this task is before the other one.
~I think this is a Roadblock. Just the way Claire was doing all the work, and Brook was doing nothing more that "vocally supporting" her makes me think that Brook could not help her.  I also think it could be a reason Brook didnt rush right to Claire when she got hit.  However....
~If this is a detour, could there be another task set up behind Brook?
~Most of the piles of watermelons look about the same size, and we only see one knight down (having been knocked over by Andi & Jenna now runing away?), so either Brook/Claire made it here before alot of other teams, or most teams chose the other detour.
~I think the baseballed cap head in caps 7,8 & 9 is a cameraman.
~I think the woman first to Claire (cap 20& 21) is also production.  At first, I thought it was one of the costumed characters, but with the screencaps, it looks less like a costume and more like a jacket tied around someones waist.  I dont think it's Mallory, because we dont see her in any of the other shots.  I think that if she was doing the task at the same time as Claire, we would have seen her in the wide shots.

But then again, what do I know? I'm still new at all this

Oh man, that promo is like watching the Zapruder film - you just have to play it over and over...

EDIT: Ummm, I was wrong - see Neobies post in the episode thread for the correct location:
http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,23310.msg564072.html#msg564072

I think I was correct about the knights tasks taking place near Warwick at this place:
http://www.knightsofmiddleengland.com/flashsite/tv-film.htm

Their location happens to be right near the Saxon Mill - which is on the river Avon and has an pond area that looks like where they grab the flags from.
There is also Guys Cliffe mansion nearby

Its a trending topic on twitter and its being linked to everywhere.

Based on this promo alone I bet we get huge ratings for the season premiere.

I should have known you guys were all over this video. I posted my same conclusions over at sucks before seeing the discussion here. One knight down, relatively large piles of melons left beyond Claire and 2 women running away from the task...but where are the camera crew that would be with those 2 running away (just thought of that as I typed this)

Claire probably sustained a concussion from that injury, and 'if' she completes this task after that injury, to me that makes her one of the strongest female competitors that this show has produced. That was also a very dangerous accident and could have been a worse outcome for her, was happy to see that she was talking and in relatively good spirits. They just went to number 1 on my list of fav teams

And it is so nice that we Canadians can actually see a video from this season. All the rest are held tightly by CBS and not allowed to be viewed outside the USA! grrr  (:;) at CBS

I think the team running away is the Docs.....Nat and Kat for the same reasons stated above. The guy in the red cap "could" be production to the rescue. It is hard to tell.
Title: Re: TAR 17 Destinations/Locations/New Promo Videos

The reason I thought the running away team is Andi & Jenna is because of their clothes.  Brook & Claire are wearing the exact same outfits that they had on at Logan.  Jenna was wearing a red/dark red t-shirt at Logan very similiar to the color of this person.  It's difficult to really see details of who is running with her. Some see blonde hair, I see what appears to be green.  Maybe the top of her backpack?

But Heliox brings up a good point:  where is this team's crew?  We could spend days debating it only to find out it was some poor civilians that just happened to be there!
Title: Re: TAR 17 Destinations/Locations/New Promo Videos

I assume that the team film crews are over in those trees. Since WRP has cameras set up on the opposite side of the field to film the task. They dont need the following crew. ie, the whole field is the "set."

One thing I would like to interject here, the accident made me think of Natasha Richardson....injuries like that very easily can cause the "walking dead" syndrome. I am glad that she recovered well. That person in the red cap could very well be BVM now that I look more closely at the screencaps. I'm just sayin........

Here is an article from today's New York Post:

'Amazing' racer a hit on melon video

By MAXINE SHEN

Last Updated: 3:54 AM, September 9, 2010

"The Amazing Race" has its first viral video hit of the season -- a young competitor getting nailed in the face with a watermelon shot from a medieval catapult.

The most painful part of the situation is that racer Claire Champlin -- a Home Shopping Network host-- did it to herself.

While in England, participating in what seems to be a roadblock challenge, Champlin is seen shooting whole watermelons at a suit of armor. It's going well, until a misfire results in a watermelon being slingshot back into her face with such force that the fruit gets pulverized.
FACE TIME: 'Amazing Race' contestant Claire Champlin about to get whacked.
FACE TIME: "Amazing Race" contestant Claire Champlin about to get whacked.

"I can't feel my face," Champlin says. "I have the worst headache, ever."

Upon hearing she has to finish the challenge, a stunned Champlin exclaims, "What? I can't even see straight!" "The on-site medic attended to Claire moments after this incident and cleared her to continue," series executive producer Bertram van Munster said in a statement.

The incident appears in the show's Sept. 26 season premiere episode.

"Claire. . .wasn't going to let a watermelon slow her down," van Munster said.

Bangladesh, in particular, affected the teams in a profound, meaningful way, Keoghan said, his voice suddenly quiet. The Amazing Race visited Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos in previous seasons, but Bangladesh shook the Racers on a whole other, more fundamental level. The low-lying country suffered serious flooding and landslides in June, and is often affected by natural disasters. The country has more than 200 rivers, and is prone to severe flooding.

Just saw a promo for TAR17 here in Aus which had mostly snippets from promos you guys in the US have seen. One thing I hadn't seen before though, was a team being soaked with water poured from above them. It looked like they were at the bottom of a small rockface or something similar to that.

Information that North Korea has fired on South Korea:  :ascared

Possible that some of the soldiers were affected?

Sorry if this was in the inappropriate thread.

The incident involved a small, occupied island which was shelled by the North Koreans which destroyed a lot of buildings, causing a few deaths, and some injuries to the residents.  As far as I have been able to determine, no US soldiers were threatened by the incident.
