This has been one Spoiled season! Its amazing what the team of people on this board can do.

I ask this question,
Was there an un-aired Yield? I don't remember seeing one this season. Unless i blinked and missed it.

Best wishes -

They haven't used the Yield since the end of the 11th season (All Stars).  It was replaced by the U-Turn and that was used twice (successfully) this season.

PREVIOUSLY ON .. I LEFT MY BRAIN IN LA:

11 teams set out on a Race around the world.

Some slipped early, while others lost in the heat of battle.  (Scenes from early, mid season.)  Teams crashed, soared, and got a glimpse of paradise.  Two used a U-Turn, provoking their opponents.  "She's an idiot!"

8 teams fell by the wayside.

Cowboys Jet/Cord started the Race riding high, but hit rough waters (bottle gaffe, non-elim break).   Their positive demeanor vaulted them into the final three.  "A couple of Okies."

Dan/Jordan, one brother racing for another. They had fun along the way.  Overcame obstacles to the F3.

Brent/Caite, former Miss Teen South Carolina (she of the crappy answer) made plenty of mistakes.  They improved as the Race went on, making F3.

Tonight.   one  of these 3 teams will win the $1,000,000 and The Amazing Race.

Credits roll.

Phil: This is Shanghai. More than 18M people, largest commercial hub in mainland China. This newly minted park, the 11th pitstop in a Race around the world.

2:37 am, Brent/Caite, CLUE. Fly to San Francisco.
Phil: Final destination city, more than 6000 miles.
Battery Godfrey, their next clue awaits.

Jet/Cord leave in 2nd.
Who cares about their times?  Flying to the US of A should equalize everyone.

Brent/Caite: COUNTER OPEN TO SAN FRANCISCO, 10:45 AM.

Jet/Cord arrive.  Still night.

Dan/Jordan leave 6:00 am, in time to make the same "gay friendly" place at the same "gay friendly" time.

Jordan: I put my backpack behind Brent/Caite's backpack, so that made me 2nd in line.
Jet/Cord: You're trying to cut. You were here 6 hours after us.
Jordan says something bitchy.
Dan: Let's fight it out.
Jet/Cord consider tossing his ass across town.

Seats closest to the front, Brent/Caite.
Jordan pisses off the Cowboys but the move seems to have worked.
Dan: This IS a game. This IS a Race. Hate the game. Don't hate the player.
Now with tickets, Jordan: Don't hate!
Cord: GET OUT OF THE WAY!

On the plane, conf Dan/Jordan decide they haven't done anything wrong.
Die.
Die in a fire.
Die of swine flu.
And I don't even like the cowboys.

Dan/Jordan make 1st class by schmoozing a stewardess.

Dan/Jordan, quickly off the plane in SFO from 1st class. Taxi quick and in a hurry.
Dan: Huger than huge! Gametime! Money's on the table!

Caite and hanger-on in 2nd. Cowboys in 3rd. All teams are in taxis now.

Langdon and Lincoln, Battery ...
Dan/Jordan, CLUE: Solve this riddle. I was built in 1933, I'm 210 feet tall, I have murals inside.
Phil: Coit Tower. They have to find this historic structure for their next clue.

Dan/Jordan ask a bicycle dude where to go.
He tells them Coit Tower.
Conf: Bike @+@$% are SMART!

Jet/Cord 2nd to riddle clue.
Cord had bought a book about SF and knows, Coit Tower!

Brent, cabbie lost. He loses patience and asks directions from a local.
Brent: Why are we in America and NO ONE speaks English!?!?

Cabbie, clueless.

Dan/Jordan: We still haven't seen any other teams.
ROADBLOCK.
Phil: Coit Tower, an icon of SF since the 30's. They must climb it using a mechanical ascender to the tower's archways. Receive clue before being lowered back to the ground below.

DAN makes it to the top and goes downward with the CLUE.
Phil: Teams must find this statue of Yoda at Lucasfilm Light & Magic.

Dan cabbie, "I need Yoda fountain!"
He asks directions on the phone.

Jet/Cord trying to make up time on the Roadblock.
One encouraging the other.

Brent/Caite find out they're going to Coit Tower.

Jordan proud of knowing what Yoda looks like, CLUE: Enter the world of Lucasfilms Industrial Light & Magic.
Phil: One team member puts on a motion capture suit and enters a soundstage. The other party directs them through the virtual world, to the clue.

Jet/Cord finishing the RB with clue now.

Brent/Caite in cab approaching RB cluebox.

This is like a Survivor challenge on steroids. Dan leads Jordan, but Jordan has trouble following directions.
He has to turn around so Dan can see where to lead him to.
Cool challenge!
Jordan keeps f*cking up the picture by going too far, beyond what he's instructed to.
Jordan: GIVE ME GOOD DIRECTIONS!

Jet/Cord arrive at the Yoda statue.

Cord has to get serious now and lead Jet.
He does better than Dan. 1 step, 2 ...
Dan tells Jordan he can "see the goal now."
The two of them almost run into each other on the course.
Dan has to read this wacko message on the screen now. Words swirling everywhere.

Meanwhile, Brent descends Coit Tower with the Yoda clue.
Title: Re: EP12*finale* East Coast updates and commentary please read the rules
Post by: mswood on May 09, 2010, 07:31:43 PM
Dan makes a discovery: Jordan spins and the words become readable.
Jet is right there, too ... a step or two away from Jordan.
Jet: I'm not going to move until Jordan moves. (Not wanting to run into him.)
Cord: THIS IS FREAKING STAR WARS! TAKE HIM OUT, MAN!

Jordan: I'm so dizzy! I'mma throw up!
Cord: You might wanna watch out. You can't go around him.
Jet: He's fixin to start turning around again.  He's spinning in circles.
Dan: I'm doing it.
Dan starts writing words down.  Perhaps they repeat?
Cord directs Jet another 2 steps. They're literally touching shoulders now.
Jet takes the 5 steps forward.
Something about "cooled by the ocean winds" is what Dan is seeing.
Now Dan thinks he has it.
Jordan: Thank God!  I was going to throw up!

Dan: A long time ago on a hill ... TONGA.
Phil: One of the first tiki bars in the US, the Tonga Room.

Jet/Cord can see the spinning sentence now.

Brothers in a taxi going to the Tonga Bar.

Brent arrives at Lucasfilm.   He'll guide Caite through  the scenes.

Post by: mswood on May 09, 2010, 07:39:38 PM
Brent: Step! Left! No, right!

Cord is having trouble with the words.  Spinning too fast to write down.

Cab drops brothers at the Tonga Bar.
CLUE: Take a trunk to your next destination.
Sign on box: AMERICAN MUSIC HALL

Post by: mswood on May 09, 2010, 07:41:48 PM
Cord finally realizes that Jordan was spinning to help Dan read the words.

Brent sees the clue now, too.
Catie and Jet are spinning around.

Meanwhile, Dan gets directions from a local to the music hall.
They trundle the trunk on foot.

Brent has caught up to Cord.
They all pretty much leave together for the Tonga club.
Jet/ Cord still has a slight lead.

HOLD EVERYTHING!
Brent/Caite have to go back inside of Lucasfilm!!

Jet/Cord arrive at Tonga Room.
They take a heavy-ass trunk and head off.
They find a local cabbie to ask.
Dan/Jordan have to put theirs down, having carried it too far already.
Jordan bitches about his shin being hurt by the trunk.
Dan: The trunk is getting heavy.

Music Hall sign overhead ... guitars blaring ...
Dan/Jordan, CLUE. Get yourselves in order.
Phil: To get their final clue, teams must flash back to the age of Aquarius. In the trunk, 8 psychedelic posters for each eliminated team, and 3 for each non-elim, have to be put up in order.

CANDLESTICK PARK!

Well think about it, it really wasn't until season 9 that we got a seriously difficult mental test.  Then we had one for season 12,13, 14.  Most season haven't had any real mental test in the final episode.  Hell one season just had a train race to the Pit Stop as the finale task in the final city.

Okay, 10 minutes or less to go.

Jet/Cord put up posters as Dan/Jordan run.
Jordan comes up with an idea: Pay someone to get out of a taxi.

Jet/Cord get CLUE and head for CANDLESTICK.

Jordan sees a taxi. They're in.
Jet tells Cord to find a taxi and they're in.

TAXI RACE TO CANDLESTICK.

Brandy/Carol offer faint applause.
Jordan: Nice job, Peach!
Phil: Anything you wanted to prove?
Caite: I'm an intelligent person and I finished the Amazing Race.
Brandy frowns.
Brandy stands with her arms folded.
Brandy: I don't want to hear sorry from you.  You purposely whacked us.  You should have U-Turned teams that were stronger.
Caite: You should have treated teams nicer.
Brandy: If you can't handle it?
Caite: I AM HANDLING IT!  I'm HERE and you're NOT!

Agreed!

But they were the team to beat right from the beginning. All their troubles came from bad cabs but not the ability to work together.

Look at how smart they were this whole time, especially this leg.

The move up to the BUSINESS CLASS gave them the additional few minutes which propelled them to a win.

They truly deserved their win.

I dread watching the end.  Frankly win, lose or draw, no other teams have ever (well at least that we have seen) took their anger out at the finish line.  As much as I think Caite deserves all the crap she gets, and that her racing actually helped to highlight her lack of smarts, you show some grace and keep your mouth shut.

I think this might be the same in season 10. I remembered a team doing an interview and saying because of an additional RB that season for the premiere, they increased the limit to 7. Could be the same case?

I don't even think they know they can move up to business class. Since they are not big fans of the show and don't travel much.

Carol and Brandy would have been a team to do what Dan and Jordan did.

Carol and Brandy would have been a team to do what Dan and Jordan did.
no that I think about it, does moving to First Class during the flight count as getting First Class tickets? (for game purposes )

Nope not at all. They brought Economy and with Dan/Jordan's smoothtalk with the air stewardess (obviously the non gay one but i don't know who Dan or Jordan).. the flight attendant moved them up to the front and they got to alight first.

Congrats to Dan & Jordan!!

To be totally honest, I still think the cowbros deserve it more :(  Dan & Jordan played a fairly decent game but not the best >.<

It's not who deserves it more, it's who crossed the finish line first. I'm a fan of the cowboys and I admit I want them to win, but for the first time this season, the R.I brothers showed race smarts, a last-minute move from economy to first ensured that they would get a few minutes lead. Jordan was familiar with the memory task, and thus they rocked it. Dan & Jordan are deserved winners in my book.

No it doesn't. On a trip from Newark to Beijing, I was alone with my brother (Companioned minors :p) and then we were bumped up to Business class so that they could keep an eye on us when everyone leaves the plane. The tickets we bought were Economy class.

So, new strategy for the win: over-use your bad luck during the first leg, so you can race on the final one being bitchy and karma-free

I knew Kisha and Jen were close. I just wished the U-TURNS/Speedbumps were more fair.

Some seasons in order to complete the Speedbump they need to travel to a location and waste time (TAR 14 where Christy and Jodi were narowly edged out EVEN after comepleting a speedbump...) but look at the Speedbumps in recent season.. Serving food for Maria and Tiffany, then the Sauna Bus... followed by the atrocious COIN TOSS for Mike and Louie which took them less than 4 tosses + 9 tosses.. they completed it in a MINUTE i think. What kind of a penalty is that.

And they need to make sure, teams do not need to travel to do the U-TURN. If not the U-TURN will become a time penalty of more than an hour. Like that i'll rather they bring back the Yield which is standard. The U-TURN is a great great idea.. but too much of a time penalty makes the race unfair. Because you're U-TURNing a team that's already behind you.. and they will fall even further behind.. so it makes the race less exciting...

Enough of the ranting... Season 15 and 16 have not been great for me. Season 14 was still the BEST.

Can't wait for SEASON 17!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hearts:

I'm just shocked that 6 teams still managed to claim first place this season despite it being seemingly unexciting throughout. Well at least Dan and Jordan won 2 legs. And i hate to say this but the Singapore leg gave them their much needed encouragement boost for first place and propelled them to a win.

Well Dan & Jordan typically didn't make as large of mistakes as either of the other two teams.  But they also didn't often show much of the drive that a team like Jet & Cord did.

Things to like, again another finale that features no mid leg equalizers (ARRGGGHHH to the seasons 1-10 for that).

Boo for Jordan pushing his way up in front during the night, though seriously guys you saw him do it in the morning why the hell didn't you say something then instead of 4 hours later.  Thats really stupid.  But it really had no practical impact on the race.

Great, great move by Dan asking to get seating (mid flight while others are asleep) in first class.  Perfectly legal.  One of the best moves we have seen a team do in the finale leg (1st seasons winners using all their saved money to buy a cell phone, was another awesome move.  It didn't help, but the idea is excellent).

This gave the guys the lead they needed to win.  Having a lead also allowed them to stay calm, as this is a team that could get stressed easy.

Bad, the memory task was one of the weakest ones (season three's totem pole is probably the same level), but unlike that season you had other task in San Fran to control your fate.

As it goes, while J&C (followed by L&M) won the most legs, when you actually break down those legs, and you look at the rest of the legs they really didn't race well.

Probably my biggest complaint about the seasons 12 and on, is that so many teams just aren't racing well, even teams that win a lot are doing solid across the board racing.

Another plus of this season though was the return of having to drive yourself.  Sure it wasn't over vast areas of land, but it still is a nice change away from teams almost never driving themselves.

Please, please cast competitive, consistent, and entertaining racers, please.

I think S16 is the opposite of S14. For me, it was the later legs of S14 that became a drag (in short, after Mel/Mike were cut) but with S16, later legs were A LOT better than early legs. Nothing edges out S5 as my personal fave though, with 72,000 MILES!!

What made the Yield so hated was that the amount of time wasted was pre-determined, not like the U-Turn which depends on the team. IMO the U-Turns this season should have been on Legs 2 and 5, only because Leg 2's detours were ridiculously easy and the location of the detours on Leg 5 were close to each other.

And IMO, lamest speedbumps ever: 1st: Mike/Louie's coin toss. No need to travel a distance and fairly easy 2nd: Gary/Matt and the sauna. They didn't need to do anything, but the real thing that wasted time was finding the bus. 3rd: Maria/Tiffany serving food. Same reasons as Mike/Louie only this is a little harder.

I was rooting for Dan and Jordan from the begining, I just never actually expected them to win! Sometimes it's nice to see a team win that didn't dominate most of the season and had to overcome obsticals more than once.

Per the bags: Jet/Cord did a lot worse this season than cutting in line. I believe the only reason they led in leg 2 was because they purposly lied to other teams about the train taking off.

Really that isn't true.  When you actually break down the episodes, and don't just look at who check in at first, you can see (and this is all seasons) that who checks in first isn't always who raced the stronger leg.

And frankly as obsessive as this site and its members are we all should be aware of things like that.  Just this season Louie & Michael won several legs, yet only one of them did they actually race the fastest leg, and even that had more to do with getting a local to give them accurate directions and and another local to drive them to their location.  On the other two, one they raced average, the other they were absolutely terrible.

First, it was a bus not a train! Second, I wouldn't call that lying since they didn't say anything like "Your bus will be here in a few minutes so stay here." They just kept their mouths shut and didn't tell the other teams what valuable information they knew. It's actually a classic race move (Derek/Drew are poster children for this) and there's really nothing bad about it.

Did they technically lie?  I don't remember them being asked?  But I could be wrong.  But again if they were concerned about their position why didn't they say anything when Jordan arrived early morning put his bag down and greeted them.

I have no problem with teams not sharing info, unless of course they agreed to do so, then don't High Dustin & Kandice I am talking about you.

I do agree that one of the problems with the speedbump and the U-Turn for that matter is they are not consistent.  In one leg it could be very difficult or it could be exceptionally easy.

At least with the Yield or the timed non elimination penalty (1st or a thirty minute penalty) its consistent.

And yeah you can still control your own fate with them.

Look at All Stars.  Eric & Danielle get to the first point of the leg 45 minutes later then any team, get a thirty minute yield on top of that, and finished the leg a mere 14 minutes after the first team.  Meaning the actually performed that leg an hour faster then any team.

Hell Bama took a Yield and managed (primarily do to the misfortune and mistakes of two teams to finish that leg in their best position.

Actually this isn't factual.  Brent almost never spoke about quitting.  In fact as a whole we didn't here much of that at all this race from any of the racers.  As for Caite she varied quite often from competitive to dragging her feet and being counter productive.  She certainly wasted more time of the winery leg in France then anything Brent did during the full race.  More often then not it was Brent trying to get Caite to help, contribute and to hurry up.

My bad. I didn't really make myself understood. What I was trying to say was that there were many times when Brent acted like he wished he were out of it already. *cough*Seychelles*cough* With Caite the only time she turns into a Flo is when Brent doesn't do things her way, or when she thinks she made the right decision and Brent made the wrong one. Other than that I admire her drive, and how she actually managed not to give up during the soccer task in Germany and the coconut task in Seychelles (even though she did whine like a baby) is pretty admirable.

What train in Leg 2?.....all the teams road busses to Puerto Varas. As I remember it, J/J or B/C never went to check to see if their bus left from that station....till it was time to leave. Did they ask the cowboys, who happened to check......did the cowboys lie to them?

Yes he says he quits (3 times, all back to back), but He is still the driving force of his team in that episode.  Caite also says I don't want to play anymore.  Breaks down crying.  While Brent is the first to get to the stage pushes her to run faster, tries to get her to work the ox properly, gets back on the cart reading to go first and has to try and clm her down as well.

She was episode to episode more often the one that needed to be pushed to get moving, to interact with locals.  Sure she kept trying when she hurt herself (Brent did when he was puking his guts out), and when she was in good spirits did tasks well.  But if she wasn't, she nearly had to be dragged around.  She never had to do that with Brent.  The closest was her needing to stop a task for probably less then 5 minutes for him to go the bathroom, not because he was just depressed or mad.  Thats a huge difference.

Humm. Disappointing I'd say. But congratulations to the winners :)

I'm happy for me though, for someone speculating for the first time I managed to get things right by joining the info gathered by everyone. I expected the line cutting deal (yay I was right 50%!!) to change the outcome of the race, but it was pretty pointless. The memory challenge was .... geez ... lame. The Ep was pretty good up to the Tonga room. Rest was disappointing...

What's up with the RB thing? Unless both teams took a long time to finish the VR task, Caite could not climb it fast enough for them to arrive at the VR when the brothers were leaving. If she didn't, it means then someone can do all 13 RBs of the race and still win? That doesn't seem right.

"Teams pass each other back and forth all the way to the finish line" ?? Phil should have meant it in Shanghai, because in the finale they pretty much had the same positions they were when arriving at SFO (excluding B/C cab drive)

I'm glad the cowboys kept thier cool!  and i thought it was funny as all get out when they were talking about "we can drop our gloves right here" while the brothers got thier tickets! :knuckles:

i thought the racers were only allowed to travel coach?? wouldn't upgrading your seats  be a violation of that? help me out here :duno: :lol3:

congrats to the winners and whinners!! :lol3:

Yes. Dustin & Kandice revealed that they received a small amount of money for placing as the 1st-runner up. I believe Charla & Mirna received some too.

All teams receive some small amount of cash.  Typically it was 50,000 for 2nd, 25,000 for 3rd and that number decrease all to about 2,000 or so for the first team out if I remember correctly.

Ugot - on the question of travel, the teams must purchase coach class tickets, but may travel in another class if allowed by the airline.  In one previous season one or more of the teams even talked the ticket agent into selling them business class tickets for the coach price.  As long as the ticket said that coach price had been paid, teams may sit anywhere the airline will allow them to sit.

I knew I could come here and have this question answered for me!  This just really bugged me all night, watching the show.  I was totally convinced the brothers would receive some sort of penalty for this move and was kind of disappointed when they didn't.  Have to admit I was rooting for the cowboys but was happy Brent and Caite didn't win.  What a whinebag she is!  Couldn't believe the lesbians acted like they did at the finish line.  Do they have any idea how stupid they looked?

I really liked this episode.  I particularly liked the IL&M VR challenge.  I thought it was unfortunate, though, that Jet's level 1 goal was so close to Jordan's final goal.

When Jet and Caite were on the course later, it didn't seem like their goal locations interfered with one another.

I would love to see a video of the animated racers completing the course from start to finish.

The interesting thing is that I really liked both sets of brothers, both raced with about the same level of integrity.

Jordan cuts in line (a move that didn't help his team or hurt the other in any meaningful way), Jet & Cord wouldn't let the cab help his fellow cab driver (that actually really helped Jet & Cord and really hurt Brent & Caite).

What killed Jet & Cord is Cord inability to understand (and Jet as well) that all the time they heard and saw Dan & JOrdan trying to read the clue, should have been a huge, huge help in figuring it out.  It didn't.  They lost a huge amount of time.

Brent & Caite, clearly you should have listen to Caite to get a driver who spoke and understood english better.  But Caite to leave your race packet, seriously they were literally seconds behind Jet & Cord at this point was an incredibly stupid move.

When did a team get a penalty for buying business class.  I honestly don't remember it.  I remember Reichen & Chip boarding but leaving a plane due to having bought business class, but I don't remember when a team actually did it, took that flight and got a penalty.

I am curious.

Per the bags: Jet/Cord did a lot worse this season than cutting in line. I believe the only reason they led in leg 2 was because they purposly lied to other teams about the train taking off.

What train in Leg 2?.....all the teams road busses to Puerto Varas. As I remember it, J/J or B/C never went to check to see if their bus left from that station....till it was time to leave. Did they ask the cowboys, who happened to check......did the cowboys lie to them?

My memory isn't that great at remembering the events of that leg. You are right though, it was a bus and Jet/Cord only with held information. The point is, it was a sneaky move and they were quite arrogant about it in their confessionals. For someone to say they ran a clean race is unfair. I’m not saying that I hate them for it, they took advantage of a situation and got something out of it. Dan and Jordan made a similar move by cutting in line and all of the sudden fans of the cowboys go around saying it’s unfair that they won.

To be quite honest, I thought it was quite rude of Cord to start barking out directions that were meant to confuse Dan and Jordan, before he even had the headset on to be giving directions to Jet.

I think both teams ran honorable races.  With all their early successes, it is quite surprising that Jet & Cord didn't get U-Turned.  It's a testament to their positive attitudes that they didn't.

Brent and Caite did a lot of whinging, but it will never measure up to Flo, so I can say they also ran a respectable race, and certainly deserve praise for their third place finish.

I forgot about the taunting, I didn't like it when the Globe trotters did it, I still don't like it.  THough I still say praying on someone's fear is worse then just general taunting.

Azaria & Hendekea originally bought First Class tickets without noticing but they had to go back and change them in order to avoid a 24-hour penalty. After switching tickets they couldn't catch their plane (or coach was full) so they had to take a later flight.

When it is all said and done........all the racers are employees of WRP.........they have to get paid something.....or else the EEOC would be on their ass. It might not be but what they would have made at their reg job........but you cant work people for a month and not pay them.

At one point (Years ago) they published a breakdown of the payout structure from first to 11th place.  I am very curious to see how its changed (for either good or bad).

Now obviously, for myself my desire to race isn't the million (thats a huge perk), but the ability to go around the world (even in those conditions) has to be a huge reward in an of itself.

Well, after trying to read all the discussion (here we are three pages later  ) I will briefly give my take on this episode.

I thought the cutting in line drama was a little too rude, and Dan & Jordan could have handled it better, but I don't think Jet & Cord should have been so surprised that it happened. It's a good thing that the "fight" didn't get ugly.

Congratulations to Dan & Jordan!! I was actually happy to see them win, even though I had wanted the cowboys to win. But after thinking it over a little, I realized that a win from Jet & Cord would have been too obvious (and would have confirmed my pre-race pick to win yet again), so I was excited to see what I would consider one of the more unpredictable final legs we've ever had, as normally we see the first team get passed by the eventual winners. Can't complain about the results finally proving me wrong!

As for the penalty for violation of the six-RB rule: I bet anything that there would have been some kind of given penalty for Brent & Caite at the Finish Line had they not already been last. But since they were already last anyway, I'm sure the producers just figured it didn't matter.

And I am SOOOOO glad Brent & Caite didn't win! Thank goodness. The high standard of physical strength and mental intelligence required to win remains (for the most part) preserved. But in fairness to them, they did earn their position. Just as the race isn't all about brawn, sometimes it isn't even about brains. DESIRE seems to be the most important.

Two complaints (which I always have no matter how good an episode may be):

One: The confrontation at the Finish Line. Brandy, I have lost a lot of respect for you. Possibly all of it. Whatever needed to be said about Caite should have been said when you were eliminated. And indeed it was. And it was appropriate for that time. But NOT HERE. Why ruin the Finish Line with your selfishness and jealousy? Give it up already. :knuckles:

Two (and this one hasn't been mentioned yet :ascared ): Why did we have to get some random and unnecessary confessionals from two eliminated teams? Could these not have been done when they were eliminated? And if we do get confessionals from the eliminated teams, why not from ALL of them? I see some clear producer bias in favor of the two teams who did get to speak. And, as usual, it annoys me. Now, even if producer-favorites get eliminated, we still have to see them speak at the Finish Line. While other eliminated teams don't get a chance. Great. (:;)

I had to type that all really fast, because I haven't had much time to come here lately. But don't worry, I'm still keeping up with the show!

...I Nothing edges out S5 as my personal fave though, with 72,000 MILES!!...
Everbloom. you are too quick to buy the Wikipedia mileage estimate. Although I like Wikipedia more than most on RFF, this is one instance where they have missed it big-time. That's almost 3 times around the earth at the equator! I have done a detailed study of what the real mileage in land miles, not air/nautical miles so it's apples and apples. Segment by AR5 segment, here are my results:

Santa Monica Pier to LAX 10
LAX to Montevideo, Uruguay 4246
Montevideo to Punta del Este 115
Punta del Este to Montevideo 115
Montevideo to Buenos Aires 130
Buenos Aires to San Antonio de Areca 70
San Antonio de Areca to Buenos Aires 70
Buenos Aires to San Carlos de Bariloche 1017
around Bariloche 30
Bariloche to Buenos Aires 1017
Buenos Aires to St. Petersburg 6944 (note: actual route through Frankfurt or Paris would be minor extra mileage, but less than 100 for Frankfurt and 200 for Paris)
St. Petersburg to Pushkin 16
Pushkin to St. Petersburg 16
St. Peterburg to Cairo Airport 2062
Cairo Airport to Giza 20
Giza to Cairo Airport 20
Cairo to Luxor 421
around Luxor 20
Luxor to Cairo Airport 421
Cairo to Nairobi direct 2182
Nairobi to Arusha 143
Arusha to Lake Manyara 81
Lake Manyara to Arusha 81
Arusha to Nairobi 143
Nairobi to Dubai 2212
Dubai to Kolkata 2087
around Kolkata 40
Kolkata to Auckland 6944
Auckland to Rotorua 153
Rotorua to Auckland 153
Auckland to Manila 4978
Manila to Cavite to Victoria, Laguna province 53
Victoria to Manila to Manila international Airport 50
Manila to El Nido Island 260
El Nido Island to Lagen Island 20
Lagen Island to El Nido Island 15
El Nido to Manila 260
Manila to Calgary, Alberta 6831
Calgary International Airport to Banff 88
Banff to Calgary International Airport 88
Calgary to Denver to DFW International airport 1536
DFW to Fort Worth Stockyards 20
Fort Worth Stockyards to Trammel Crow Park, Dallas 30

GRAND TOTAL 43,713

It looks to me that the person estimating 72,000 miles was only off by 29,000 miles.

I do agree with you that AR5 was one of the most exciting Amazing Races. It ranks in my top 3.
