PREVIOUSLY ON . THE AMAZING RACE:
Four teams raced from Singapore to Shanghai. Jordan got tangled up. For the first time ever, there was a 2nd Roadblock in the same leg, and the "other" member had to do it. Wind vexed Michael, Brent. In the end, the Cowboys came out on top. Detectives came in last, but were spared Philimination in an inexplicably coinkydental Non-Philimination Leg.
Four teams still remain. Who will be Philiminated next?

My God Louie & Michael were so far behind.

Phil: This is Shanghai. Centuries ago, among the first cities opened to Western trade. It's the most cosmopolitan in China. Science / Technology Museum, the 10th pitstop.
Jet/Cord, CLUE, 8:02 am: Make your way to the Garden Bridge.
Phil: Across the city. Locals know it by the Chinese name. They'll search for the clue, there.
Confessional W H I N I N G about how tough this R A C E is for each of 'em. Boo-hoo.
Locals don't know "The Garden Bridge" and it sure looks like the 'Pokes got sent somewhere WRONG.
Brent/Caite 8:36 am.
Caite conf: People think I'm a M O R O N because of that question I slipped up on, you know, the trick question, the one they had no business asking my brilliantness ...

Jet/Cord got tooken to the wrong place.
Wasted walking, no cluebox.
Fortunately they find someone who speaks better English and has a cell phone that translates the name into Chinese.
Now they're in a taxi, possibly going the right way, possibly not.
Dan/Jordan, 8:53 am.
Dan pats himself on the back for "giving Jordan his dream."
Then Dan remembers it doesn't sound like he wants to W I N and changes his confessional accordingly.
They find no EngRish spoken, though, and won't be finding the "Garden Bridge."
Brent, in cab, finds bridge first. He and Caite get out.
CLUE: Make your way to Longhua Temple. You may NOT travel by Taxi.
Jet/Cord get the CLUE close behind, in 2nd.
Brent/Caite, mapping it out. They decide to take a bus and find some decent English spoken.

Good tasks so far.

Jet/Cord ask the cab driver what transport they should take.
Dan/Jordan trouble translating "Garden Bridge" into anything the locals can understand.
Dan/Jordan spell B R I D G E for someone who doesn't understand what they need ... and get nothing in return.
They're still hopeful the Speed Bump will keep the Dicks in last place, though.
The Dicks are having none of it; they want to win.
Dan/Jordan and the Dicks put their heads together.
S C H M O O Z E it up, guys!
With binoculars, Michael finds what he thinks may be the Garden Bridge.
Well, he's not really sure.
Brent/Caite, ROADBLOCK.
Phil: One who attains enlightenment. Teams must enter Temple and attain knowledge. Count golden statues in the room, 523, for the next clue. If answer wrong, they wait 10 minutes before restarting.

Ok, Dan & Jordan waiting for another team knowing they have another task, not a bad idea. But not getting the same directions to your cab driver is a stupid as BJ & Tyler asking Eric & Jeremy for directions instead of going and asking the ambulance yourself. Thats being an idiot.

It's kinda funny when they DO finally ask, though ... they get a group of people speaking ALL Chinese, and no English.
But apparently there's a phone translation service that they can call if they just borrow a cell phone.
With directions, finally, off they go.
Two cars racing ... or not so much racing as trying to convince their drivers which way to drive!

Back at the temple, as Caite counts, Brent says he's "kinda high now."
In 2nd, Jet/Cord pass the Speed Bump and one of 'em is volunteered to do the counting. (The one in the dark hat will count.)(
Traffic miracle? Dan/Jordan catch the Dicks in a traffic tie-up.
CLUEBOX ... they walk right past it!
Cops get third clue, Dan/Jordan 4th clue. Off go both teams to the RB. A Speed Bump also awaits the Dicks.
Cowboys have 523!
Caite's still counting.
She now has 523, as well.
Jet/Cord, 1st, CLUE: Pick a marked motorcycle.
Phil: They'll ride it to Yuyuan Gardens.

The brothers and the dicks are together at a hotel lobby getting directions.
Funny thing is, that arrangement doesn't help the dicks much, at all, since they have a Speed Bump to do.
Fangbang Road, bikers drop off their passengers.
On foot now, Brent/Caite look for the cluebox with a map.
They discover that there are lots of people in China. People! Everywhere!
Caite: GO AWAY! SO MANY PEOPLE!
Jet/Cord, DETOUR.
Phil: The people of Shanghai still enjoy time honored traditions. Pork chops, or pork dumplings?
Pork chops. They sell elaborate stamps at this particular store. They have to find the ones with their NAMES to get the next clue.
Pork dumplings. Pick up 10 orders of dumplings, make your way through the chaotic alleyways and deliver them successfully for the next clue.

Brent/Caite finally find the cluebox.
Now they have to decide which Detour they'll do. She wants to do the stamps.
Longhua Temple, the 3rd and 4th place teams arrive.
SPEED BUMP.
Phil: Louie/Michael have to perform a local good luck ritual. Toss coin into an incense burner.

Several misses, then success.
That task took a whopping 3 minutes.

BIg difference between being tied in first (knowing a team is two hours behind you) then doing it when you know you are last or next to last be minutes and on the way to the Pit Stop.

Brent & Caite in first by a minute. But Jet & Cord find cab first.

Cop immediately realizes he failed to count ALL the statues in the hall.
Jet/Cord now have 1 of the name stamps, and are looking for the other, as Brent returns from the loo.
Caite sees Cord's but plays dumb. Or mum. Or quiet.
Brent finds his.
So each of the two teams has 1 of their named stamps.
At the temple, Cops have 523 and move to the motorbike ride.
"Ride it like you stole it, baby!"
Caite finds hers.
Cord finds his.
Both teams are done.
Two teams leave together, more or les.
Phil: Make their way to the Riverside Promenade, overlooking Shanghai's historic waterfront.
Last team to check in here will be eliminated.

Cops on their way to the Detour.
Dan/Jordan missing somewhere in China.
Man: Welcome to Shanghai.

Phil: Brent/Caite, you're team #1. You're in the FINALE! You've won a trip for 2 to beaches of coastal Spain.

Dan/Jordan reach cluebox in 3rd, and search for their named stamps.
Louie/Michael reach the cluebox in last as Dan finds Louie's.
Fortunately, Louie isn't there yet.
Stamps, stamps everywhere and all but a couple of 'em are written in Chinese. The ones that are in English are the winners.
Cops arrive.
Dan: Jordan! Keep going! Stop complaining!

The pressure is ON for Jordan.
Dan has himself. Finally, they have 1.
The tall cop takes a flashlight and does a quick search through the glass shelf, of the bottoms of the stamps.
Could be clever, if it works.
Jordan is making stupid faces like he's panic stricken.
Dan: We gotta step it up!
Dan/Jordan find the 2nd stamp and GTFO, in 3rd.
Cops left to stew in their own juices as they search under greater pressure.

Damn, that took them forever! It's DARK now.
And that makes it tougher for the Brothers to find their way in the city.
Michael's stamp!
The Cops are out of there in 4th!
Now, it's about translation and cab rides to see who goes home.

Dan/Jordan get (you guessed it!) a non-English speaking cabbie who has no clue where they need to go.
And it's not JUST the editing. Their faces are priceless!
Dan/Jordan get out, flummoxed.
Cops got a better cabbie. He took them to near the foot of a monument, and pointed.

Phil: Louie/Michael, you are the last team to arrive. Really sorry to tell you that you've been eliminated from the Race.
Michael: Best ride of our lives.
Louie: Only Mike could share this with me. We have this together for the rest of our lives.

NEXT WEEK, ON THE SEASON FINALE OF THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil: After a season full of thrilling moments, emotional highs, and lows (replays of lots of the seasons cenes) ...
It all comes down to Cowboys, a Beauty Queen with something to prove, and Brothers determined to fulfill a dream.
They must scale new heights and explore new galaxies. (Some kind of hi-tech virtual Star Wars game? Cool!)

I agree that Caite hasn't exactly proven herself smart, but I have to them some credit for getting a map of Shanghai that has transit routes and tourist locations in English. By not floundering around asking for help to figure out how to get to the temple, they probably saved 20-30 minutes over the other teams.

Oh, exactly. You hit the hammer on the head. The editors are trying to make it look as if Brent & Caite's mere survival is an indicator of Caite's intelligence. But, unfortunately, it isn't conclusive enough for me. Their overall performance has been mediocre, and they have made a number of dumb mistakes that to me simply confirm what I already thought. They appear just as smart at this stage in the race as they did in the beginning. :res:
The editing portrayal of Brent & Caite this leg felt desperate. As if they are taking their last chance to convince us that we should like Brent & Caite. Unfortunately, it didn't work on me.
