So there is no delay today?

Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: theschnauzers on April 11, 2010, 06:00:38 PM
There's going to probably be about a 15 minute delay, because CBS is obligated to air the presentation of the winner's jacket of The Masters.

It is 7:03:30 pm EDT and the presentation of the Green Jacket to the Masters winner Mickelson will be precede by some meaningless conversation. I am betting that will multiple commercial breaks they will not get this completed until 720pm, so 60 Minutes should start then.

Note- after the fact, I saw CBS get the Butler Cabin baloney over in record time (I guess that's what happens when there is no Tiger Woods win). They started 60 Minutes (as reported below by the schnauzers, at 711pm. Terrific!

PREVIOUSLY ON THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Six teams raced from Seychelles to Malaysia. Cops eyed a "new target", the Lesbians.  Brent/Caite thought about U-Turning them.  Cowboys' balancing act had them setting a new record .. last to first. Meanwhile, Steve/Allie suffered a major setback and couldn't recover.

Five teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Jet/Cord, 10:02 am: Make your way to SINAPOOR.
Phil: Victoria Concert Hall, search for Allan Wu, host of TAR-Asia!

Carol/Brandy, 10:12 am.  CLUE ... U-TURN AHEAD!

Cops, 10:31 am.

First bus leaves 10:47 am with Jet/Cord.
Carol/Brandy on 2nd bus.

Brent/Caite, 10:50.
Caite: We hope someone gets there before the Lesbians and U-Turns them!

Dan/Jordan, 11:09.
"Somewhere along this leg you will encounter a U-Turn."
Conf: We decided we wouldn't 'throw elbows' during the Race.

Everybody remaining gets on the 2nd bus including Dan/Jordan.

Phil: They will all board a train to Singapore.
Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on April 11, 2010, 07:23:52 PM
Teams maneuver where they want to be to R U N off the train as soon as it stops.

Brent: Ladies get their way. Bitches don't.

TEAMS RUN AS SOON AS IT STOPS!
Somebody falls ass first. Caite, I think.
Louie gets the first cab.
Most teams take time to get cabs b/c none are open.
Lesbians get the 2nd cab.
Dan/Jordan get 3rd cab.
Brent/Caite 4th.
Cowboys in last.

Cop: Is Allan Wu here?
Employee: Who is Allan Wu?

Dan/Jordan find him 1st.  Sitting outside.
Phil: This is the Singapore Flyer.
Fast Forward: Team that conquers this metal beast will consider it their wheel of fortune. When capsule is at the top, must leave it and walk along the beam outside of the capsule.
Dan/Jordan decide to go for the Fast Forward.

Other teams can't find Wu.
Running every which a way.

Is Carol & Brandy the only one who knew who Allen was (one says he's a very attractive man).
Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary

Cops: DETOUR.
Phil: Pound drums, or pound pavement.
Drums: Go to Speakers Corner. Learn a complex routine on drums, and when the teacher thinks you're ready, you'll perform it with a drum troupe.
Pavement: Pedestrian mall. Must pick up supplies and 10 boxes of ice cream. Must make/sell 25 ice cream sandwiches. Made with actual bread! After selling all 25, get the clue.
Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary

L & M  leave detour thinking to do the fast forward, even knowing Daniel & Jordan aren't accounted for.

Dan & Jordan up on top of the ferris wheel
Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on April 11, 2010, 07:29:05 PM

Allan Wu tells Caite she's the first lady he's seen.
Caite immediately thinks that means the Lesbians are in last.
(Are they ladies? Dunno, but nonetheless ...)
Lesbians get to Wu in last.

Cops and Cowboys decide to do drums.
Cowboys get a kid instructor. Not too complicated,a lthough there's a twist in the beat at an odd place in the routine.
Also doing drums, Caite thinks she's good with rhythm.
Lesbians realize everyone's doing drums, including them.
Cops cannae learn drums?
Lesbians cannae learn drums?
Brandy: The kid is smoking crack! Seriously!!

Cops give up on the FF as Dan & Jordan doubt their decision. Commercial break.

Jet & Cord didn't know what the FF consisted of. Hope they at least know what a FF is! :groan:

Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on April 11, 2010, 07:32:27 PM
Cops change detours and use "Rapido" as the Sinapoor word for "fast."

Meanwhile, Dan/Jordan think they're ready for the Flyer.
An instructor tells them they have to cross (crawl?) above the Flyer from one rail to another. Yikers!
"Intense fear of heights" my ass.

Surprise ... Cops decide to try for the Fast Forward, as well!
Sign: FAST FORWARD IN PROGRESS.
So the cops leave and head for the other detour, finally.
Except for the fact that their cab driver is missing. He's on a potty break?

COMMERCIAL.

Cab driver returns, running.
Cops now heading for the ice cream task.

On the ferris wheel, Dan/Jordan reach the top.
Jordan climbs out of the capsule.
It's quite a wide thingy they're crawling on. Not scary really, unless you're just inclined to look down.

Cowboys think they're having trouble with drum routine.
Lesbians having trouble with drum routine.
Carol wants to leave; she thinks she'll never get it.

Jordan finishes crossing to the next capsule ... Dan's turn.
They're finished.
CLUE: You've won the Fast Forward!
Phil: Directly to the Marina Barrage, pitstop for this Leg of the Race.
They can see it from the capsule.

On the street, Mike and Louie hawk ice cream as they make sammitches.
In the park, Cowboys decide to try out their drum routine on stage.
Drumming ... drumming ... kimodo peeps all dressed up on stage.
Oops, they messed up and go back.

Brent/Caite arrive on stage to try.
Drumming ... DONE!
CLUE. (Something I couldn't hear.)
Phil: They're looking for Istana Park where they'll find the next clue.
Brent/Caite leave the park in 2nd.

Woman: Welcome to Singapore.
Phil: Dan/Jordan, you're Team #1. You've each won a motorbike.

BRENT/CAITE ARRIVE AT THE U-TURN!

OH THE UTTER DELICIOUSNESS OF IT!

Not anonymous this time, though.

CAITE: WE CHOOSE TO U-TURN BRANDY AND CAROL!!11!!1!

CLUE: You're being put in dry dock.
Phil: Make way to shipyard for the next clue.
Title: Re: Episode 9: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on April 11, 2010, 07:45:18 PM
Can I just say how stupid the move to U-Turn Carol & Brandy.  I understand why they did it.  But especially getting down to the wire, 5 teams left, not trying to get rid of one of the stronger teams is a serious error.  Though of course in comparison I believe ever team is consistently racing stronger then they are.

Carol/Brandy still trying to learn routine.
They take it on stage.
Brandy cusses Carol out for not leaving there an hour ago.
They're getting one helluva nasty edit.
Success! They get the clue and leave in 3rd / 4th dependingn on whether Cops are slightly ahead or behind them.

U-TURN ... Lesbians!
Mad heffas: Caite U-Turned us because she's prettier! She's an idiot! She's on YouTube proving it!

Lesbians make noises about Brent/Caite as they stew in their juices.

Cops arrive, and see that Brent/Caite U-Turned them.
Cop: Good job, kids!!

Brent/Caite, ROADBLOCK.
Phil: THey'll find out what it takes to work these docks. Inspecting an enormous anchor chain.
Count the links. If they come up with 521 they get the next clue.

5 2 1

Caite: YOU CAN DO IT BABY!
Brent, concentrating: SHADDAP!

Jet/Cord drum again.
Success!  They finally get the clue in 4th (editors of course factoring in the bitchez having to do the ice cream challenge).

The lesbians are fuming at everyone on the street and each other.
You have to see it to appreciate it.
This ep is a keeper.

Dammit, the cop is using a handheld mechanical device called a "pitch counter" to count links.
Maybe he'll f-up anyway?

Lesbians done selling ice cream, get clue, head back to Istana Park.

Brent/Caite make it to Sentosa Island.
Caite: Wicked cool.
CLUE: Zippity Do Da!
Phil: Launch selves from canopy across one of Asia's longest, steepest ziplines.

Well it was not the best time for a personal reason to U-Turn some one, though L&M using that with Brent & Caite to take heat off of them was smart.  But I don't care for them.  They are exceptionally cocky and when you actually look at how they have performed (not simple placement but time to actually complete) they haven't done well enough to be cocky about anything.

But Carol & Brandy could be mean spirited often (we don't know how much of that other teams saw, but it did occur though most of what we saw was in interviews not in front of others).  So I don't mind them getting the boot.

But it was an exceptionally poor reasons if you are trying to win the race.  I do hope Brent & Caite don't win.

Editing makes it look very, very close.
Cops get out.
Lesbians get out.
Both teams try to find Phil.

Phil: Louie/Michael, you're Team #4.  Still in the Race.

Woman: Welcome to Sinapoor.
Phil: Carol/Brandy, you're the last team to arrive.  Sorry to tell you, but you have been eliminated from the Race.
Brandy: No reason for Caite and Brent to U-Turn us!  Dumb did us in.
Phil: They said you were rude to her.
Brandy: I'll be rude to her now.
Carol: I'll translate that into first grader language for Caite

NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Down to the Final Four. Competition gets tougher.  Will teams hang on?
Puzzle pieces skitter across the ground in the wind.
Phil: Or crumble under pressure?
Dan/Jordan cry and hug, despondent about something.

I think it was well played by the cops to turn Brent & Caite against Carol & Brandy. Jet & Cord might have overcome the U-Turn quickly, so at least the cops' "U-Turn queens" moment allowed them to live for one more leg.

Well, at least now Joe & the Lesbians can bitch together about the U-Turn

Joe & the Lesbians will have to bitch about it after the Race or else via phone because Joe & Heidi are still at the Elimination Station while Carol & Brandy will be running as decoys.

I don't think Louie & Michael had to try all that hard to turn Brent & Caitie against Carol & Brandy -- the dating couple and the lesbians can't stand each other so it was inevitable that one team would use the U-Turn against the other.  Were the dating couple smart to use the U-Turn on the lesbians?  No -- it would've been better to use it against the cowboys.  But Jet & Cord did nothing against Brent & Caitie whereas we all know that Brent & Caitie and Carol & Brandy can't stand each other.  This is a case where past history came back to bite a team.

After watching Episode 2 at the start of the season.........Brent and Caite might have developed a different opinion of the Cowboys now......

Oh it was very smart of Louie & Michael to do this, and very stupid of Brent & Caite to (especially at this stage) to do it.

While none of these team are actually strong racers, with a vast number of errors that all teams have made, not to mention just overall poor performances.  But Brent & Caite are if not the worst team the 2nd to worst team.

And while I can break down the episodes based on how teams actually performed, versus just their placement, Brent & Caite can't.

But this isn't early in the race (or even mid) its this elimination and one more and then everyone standing is got a 33.3% chance at a million.  To let your personal feelings be the deciding factor at this stage of the race is simply not rational.

Its on par with Freddy & Kendra yielding Adam & Rebecca  who were the weakest team left, instead of going after Kris & Jon.  Or BJ & Tyler yielding Mojo instead of gunning for what very possible is the strongest team the race has ever had.  Both of those were for personal reasons and had nothing to do with racing.

Of course, both those teams did end up winning (though the use of the Yield in those cases didn't impact the final leg), the idea is to use the tools you have available to give yourself the best chance to win.

Now of course, you wont hear me argue that Carol & Brandy got along with Brent & Caite, but I also wonder if Brent & Caite tried either.

For example, they heard Dan & Jordan teasing Caite before Carol & Brandy ever did.  But they never seemed to get upset about Dan & Jordan for it, but got upset from the minute they head about Carol & Brandy saying the Tiara comment.

As most of the worst comments Carol & Brandy said were not with other people around.  But we heard a lot of mean, evil lesbians hate within hear shot of others.

So I do wonder how much was just from that first comment (they they didn't even hear) or from C & B actually being rude to them in person.

I think Caite just has a hard time letting go of that 'tiara' moment. She started whining about how much she hated the lesbians since that, and it got worse post-WWI leg.

But in her defense (wow! what am I doing??) Carol and Brandy always thought she was an idiotic, stupid, only-good-for-looks airhead. Caite was on the race to prove she was just as smart as everyone out there (though she's doing terribly at that mission) so I can see why she hates the lesbians.

And if my memory serves me right, Dan/Jordan never repeated the imitation after Leg 1. I guess Carol/Brandy never really stopped looking down on Caite.

Another great episode (this season has really picked up from the first few episodes). Not a fan of the lesbian's cocky nature, but their breakdown and barrage at Caite was absolutely hilarious to watch.

Horribly strategy for Brent/Caite not to U-turn one of the M/M teams. Oh well.

Still loving Dan/Jordan and the cowboys. :jumpy:

I feel if it's not going to help your team, DON'T USE IT. There have been previous times when the U-Turn or Yield weren't used, and it was perfectly fine. U-Turns are supposed to be for strategic purpose...slowing down the stronger, if not the strongest team.

And did I mention it's because of the U-Turn that I hate watching ES now. Check out Joe. ugh.

I have to disagree.  While I would not complain about the U-Turn being retired, it's part of the game.  Sure it may not have helped Brent/Caite here, but it didn't hurt them either.  It's likely the last time it'll appear, so why not use it?  Whether it may have been used incorrectly, at least the end result was a positive one.  It knocked out a team.

However, I agree about Joe and ES.

Question to Peach, Luke (if he's still around), or whomever: Is there a rule for or against teams doing both detours prior to the U-Turn?  I would think if I were on the race and had a feeling that I might get U-Turned, that I would take a chance and do both detours (if they're close to one-another esp), and then when I found out that I actually got U-Turned, I'm off the hook.

Kinda bummed to see Carol & Brandy go after all the unnecessary targeting. Most of what I would say about the U-turn issue has already been said, so I'll just sum it up by saying - poor use of strategy.

But on the plus side it put Carol & Brandy back into fine form. Loved their quotes imitating Brent & Caite! :lol3: We haven't seen much entertainment since Leg 1, so this was refreshing. I would actually dare say that it (along with the aforementioned drama) was the spark that saved an otherwise mediocre episode. Apart from the Fast Forward, the tasks didn't seem to have much entertainment potential, especially the counting Roadblock.

I liked that this episode had lots of tasks, but sadly the only memorable one was the Singapore Flyer Fast Forward. I like watching the thrill tasks, so this was nice. And in another "Ode to Leg 1", this was possibly the first real thrill we have seen since that leg.

Louie & Michael. Ugh. Their cocky and self-righteous attitude really turns me off. I thought they would just U-turn Joe & Heidi out and be done. But they've done it twice, this time by using another team's U-turn to throw out Carol & Brandy. Surely they should have instead tried to convince another team to U-turn Jet & Cord (their biggest competition), or even Dan & Jordan. I just don't get it. :duno:

Oh, and another thing: Why was Michael allowed to use a counting device (or whatever that thing was - it was explained rather unintelligibly) to count for him? Doesn't that warrant some kind of penalty? I would think that the person doing the task would actually be expected to count for himself, right? Lame, and, needless to say, a bad precedent to set in the name of fairness. Couldn't this be considered about on par with speeding when self-driving? Hmmm...

It's a ticker that you see often when people pass through the entrance to a museum or train station. Like the calculator last year, perfectly legit if you actually bothered to bring one.

They can use whatever is in their bag.........they are searched before the race.......

Steve used the duct tape to keep from getting eliminated........and last race, Tiffany/Maria used a calculator one of them had packed.....

In every race there seems to be come kind of counting task........Michael was smart to pack his pitch counter.......

I agree with Hooky on the ticker/counter thing. The reason why there are nuances in the task such as the pounding and the loudspeaker announcement of numbers is distrtaction.

If you have a ticker, no amount of distraction will make you lose count.

With the use of the U-Turn, I love it for the reason I love the cowboys to win. lol

Good thing there's something people have learned from previous seasons!  Now, let's hope TPTB won't reward the contestants (for thinking ahead), by prohibiting such devices!

My personal take on the U-Turn (as it relates to the leg moreso than the race itself):

As far as the U-Turn went and whether it really was dumb of the models to use the U-Turn? I think it could go both ways. I think using the U-Turn on Jet/Cord would have been a better plan, as opposed to using it due to dislike (or because Mike/Louie said so). They're a huge threat and were at the same detour as the two rivals. OTOH, I think Brent/Caite targeting Carol/Brandy was fair enough, because a U-Turn on the Cowboys may not have been enough to eliminate them. Since the Cowboys went from last to first (with a Speed Bump, a TAR first) they might have done both and been able to make up enough time to sneak past someone.

All grudges aside, by U-Turning Carol/Brandy, an average team at best, it's better because they were present at the detour, and would more than likely get knocked out due to having to perform both tasks. Plus, they were so pissed, and that probably contributed to their downfall. Then there's Dan/Jordan & Louie/Michael, where by U-Turning those two would have been risky, as one of them could have performed the FF (and did).

I had a feeling Allan would appear in this show, as I'm sure, the producers would not pass up this opportunity while in his hometown.

While I like the Fast Forward itself, I pretty much sure the same feelings as others, as far as either have them in most legs or not at all.

I just hope there is another All-Stars and that Carol and Brandy be in it!

Agree with you, so far in this season I think only Carol/Brandy (in fact only Brandy) and the cowboys have all stars quality. Brandy is just good for entertainment and she is not hesitate to say what she wants in front of camera! That's why I like to watch her racing.

For this leg, it's obvious that Caite made terrible mistake to u-turn Carol/Brandy, and I am sure that C/B did not say other bad things in front of her because in insider clips they said they got along with all the teams, so it seems not possible for them to piss Caite off in front. I am just surprised how one moment (even not directly said in front of her) could make them as a target.

And I hate Michael/Louie from the moment they u-turn Joe/Heidi, I don't particularly like Joe but I know how Michael is playing the game. Seriously, how could Michael thinks he is a good racer? Always like to show his muscles on screen (at least the editors keep showing this to us) but race poorly, I just hope they and Caite don't win.
