EPISODE SUMMARY, with huge thanks to our local insider! :hearts:
(all photos are thumbnails...click-click and they enlarge) Items in red may be clicked for further info.
Teams will be released from Singapore's Marina Barrage, and fly to Shanghai. Thanks to the guys in the Timeline thread, we believe they will all have used MU544, dep 12:55 AM (delayed 16 minutes) - Fri Dec 18, 2009, arrived slightly late at ~ 0610 at Terminal 1, (PVG) Pu Dong Airport.
Teams taxi to Pu An Lu Bus Stop / then Travel by Bus to Zhu Jia Jiao (http://wikitravel.org/en/Zhujiajiao) Pu'an Rd / Jinlin Rd (Huzhu Express) Zhu Jia Jiao The Huzhu Express is a bus that costs Y12 and takes slightly less than an hour between Pu'an Rd and Zhu Jia Jiao. It leaves every half an hour. Thanks to Neobie for the help with this! ^^ From Wikitravel link above: By Bus
Quote
The most affordable way to get to Zhujiajiao is to take a bus from the bus station at the Puanlu(Chinese: 普安路)bus station near People's Square in Shanghai. Make sure you take the bus line called Hùzhū Gāosù Kuàixiàn (Chinese: 沪朱高速快线) - they usually use pink busses. This should take around 1 hour and the fare is about 12 yuan. There are other bus lines, but they can sometimes take up to 2 hours. Don't worry about where to get off, Zhujiajiao is the end terminal.
From there, they travel by foot to ROADBLOCK: Noodles (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2016/Shanghai/ep%2010%20PROMO%20caps/th_TAR16ep10PROMOcaps0045.jpg) (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2016/Shanghai/ep%2010%20PROMO%20caps/TAR16ep10PROMOcaps0045.jpg)(http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2016/Shanghai/TAR%2016%20PREVIEW%20clips%20from%20puddin/th_rff-0018.jpg) (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2016/Shanghai/TAR%2016%20PREVIEW%20clips%20from%20puddin/rff-0018.jpg)(http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2016/Shanghai/ep%2010%20PROMO%20caps/th_TAR16ep10PROMOcaps0377.jpg) (http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/ga--peach/TAR%2016/Shanghai/ep%2010%20PROMO%20caps/TAR16ep10PROMOcaps0377.jpg)
Seen doing this RB in the caps is Jordan.
From there, they return to the bus station where they take marked taxis back into Shanghai to ROUTE MARKER: in Lu Zia Zui Park (http://www.panoramio.com/photo/29842809) in Pudong
SPEC: This could possibly become a RB in Ep 11 instead
Lujiazui Central Green is located in Pudong district in Shanghai. The Greens are situated at the entrance of a Tunnel where you could come across a group of huge steel structures named ‘Spring” which resembles eight flowers in full bloom. This is the largest space which has been opened up by the Shanghai Government. Some of the evergreen grass has been imported.
Lujiazui Central Green covers an area of approximately 100,000 sq metres out of which 65,000 sq meters are covered of an evergreen turf. The shape pathway resembles the city flower of Shanghai, Magnolia. The center of the Lujiazui Central Green features a man made lake which covers an area of 8600 square meters. The lake resembles a map of the Pudong new area. There is a fountain in the centre of the lake that can spray water columns as high as 80 meters. There is a white scenic canopy on the banks of the lake which resembles both a conch and a shell.
The green land is surrounded by clusters of high buildings which are like a new International Architecture Expo. Towards the south of the Lujiazui Central Green is the Lujiazui development Exhibition Room which showcases special architectures and combines Chinese and Western culture. It also reveals the past present and future of Lujiazui. The park is open from 6AM till 10PM.
This location may include something to do with Cadillac Escalades?? cars?? product placement?? Not clear... possibly originally scheduled for Da Ning Park (http://wikimapia.org/1857152/DANING-LINGSHI-PARK-%E5%A4%A7%E5%AE%81%E7%81%B5%E7%9F%B3%E5%85%AC%E5%9B%AD)instead.

At some point along here, there is a "high Fashion" task (believed to originally be a RB in leg 2):
Teams were originally supposed to travel by taxi to the "High Fashion" Roadblock, which I suspect has been transformed into the "Fashion" Route Marker scheduled for episode 10. In any case, it was originally located in Tian Zi Fang (http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/c54d4/f4fc8/)
Tian Zi Fang Photo Album (http://travel.webshots.com/album/573297853KizUUk?start=12)
We believe teams then travel by subway Shanghai Metro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Metro#Virtual_Interchange_Station) to the second RB ROADBLOCK 2: at Shanghai Hongkou Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hongkou_Football_Stadium) MAP (http://wikimapia.org/52586/Hongkou-Stadium) Thanks to jerseydude for the links!
The Roadblock consists of solving a large dragon puzzle using large cards.
Doing this Roadblock are Cord and Brent by caps, and Michael by insider info. Michael reportedly is somewhat colorblind and had difficulty with the puzzle.
Teams travel from the Stadium by METRO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Science_and_Technology_Museum_(Shanghai_Metro)) to the PITSTOP at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum (http://www.sstm.org.cn/structure/english2/jj). Thanks to slowhatch for the links!
Teams arrive in the following order: Cowboys. Models, Brothers, Cops.
This is a NEL leg with a 12 hour Pitstop.

I think this episode will be one week late. CBS has the 45th ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS during TAR time. So air date should be April 24, 2010.

 just a guess, but I think it's one of the cops for the title. :knuckles:
Sounds like Brent & Caite to me. "Everywhere like, such as..."
:groan: no way, a cop with the name of Louie Stravato has no doubt been back to the homeland (Sicily) more than a few times. ;)
You have a good point there. But I still think Caite. I don't recall ever hearing Louie talk with soooo many "likes".
A racer wouldn't have to have been to Sicily to say that. It might be based on some stereotype of Sicily as well.
:groan: he's from "Nu Yawk" "Roe Diland"... he can barely speak English... :lol3:
Stereotypes huh... like the Mafia.... hmmmm like Shanghai has the Triads... hmmmm old buildings.... hmmm like the colonial buildings in the Bund.... hmmmmm street markets in Palermo... hmmmmm like street markets in Shanghai... oh yeah.... nothing alike...... bwahahahaha

By the way, I actually think it's either Dan/Jordan. They're not exactly the best with words and I seem to think they say 'like' a lot.

More Information on the Football/Soccer Stadium
Hongkou Football Stadium (simplified Chinese: 虹口足球场; traditional Chinese: 虹口足球場; pinyin: Hóngkǒu Zúqiúchǎng) is a professional football stadium in Shanghai, China. Located in Hongkou District, the stadium has a capacity of 33,060 people.[1] It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium was re-built in 1999 over the previous 46-year old Hongkou Stadium. It hosted the final of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. The stadium also hosted several concerts by artists such as Mariah Carey, TVXQ, Kylie Minogue and Linkin Park The stadium has 3 squash courts inside and a climbing wall that was rebuilt in early 2009. The stadium is best reached by taking Shanghai Metro Line 3 or 8 to Hongkou Football Stadium station.
Finally the Chinese Symbol behind Jordan is 伟 (ping yin: Wei)
I'm pretty sure it,s 佛(Fo).

coming from a Sicilian, just because one is a Sicilian, does not mean one has been to the homeland.
I've been close, but yet so far (Rome to be exact)...
and I'm siding with Hooky. The fact that there is a 'like' in there, is really pushing me away from Mike or Louie.
due to each racer's vocab., I'd say it's most likely: Brent, Caite, or Jordan who state the title. who knows, even girl Jordan (or Jeff) could say it... I'd be surprised if one of those knuckleheads weren't Italian of some form

I'll put my chips on Caite as well. A couple of possibilities:
The noodles/pasta task reminds her of Italy
She sees the canals of Zhu Jia Jiao and confuses Venice with Sicily

Taking this from the timeline thread. Just wondering. Since they skipped a Roadblock in Leg 5 (WWI-France) is it possible that there is the first "double roadblock"?
hehe...its okay. im so glad to share what i experienced with u guys. yes, all the 4 teams were in the same flight and they arrived Shanghai on 18 Dec., bt i cannot remember the flight no.. all i can remember is they flew from singapore and arrived here at 5:50am, bt it delayed a little bit. 18th Dec. Shanghai Pudong International Airport---Zhu Jia Jiao(Road Block: making noodles)---Lu Jia Zui Park(Route Marker)---Shanghai Hongkou Stadium(Road Block: Cards, actually its a big puzzling game, the whole picture is a dragon)---Shanghai Science and Technology Museum 19th Dec. Shanghai Science and Technology Museum---Long Hua Temple(Route Marker&Speed Bump: counting the golden buddhas)---Tian Zi Fang(Road Block:High Fashion. dunno what it is)---Bridge of the Nine Turns at Yu Garden(Detour:Pork Chops or Dumplings)---Riverside Promenade Yes, the detectives were the last team to arrive. They came to the pit stop around 6pm. The arriving order of the first leg is cowboys, dating modles, brothers and detectives. The same as the second pitstop One of the detectives, Michael, has trouble with color, so when finishing the task of puzzling, they took a lot of time. but they are very nice guys, especially for Louie. He is very talktive.

Maybe it's just a typo, and the clothes room is the other half of a Detour.

That quote ^^ appears to be mixing both legs. The Speed Bump will be in the second leg. And the dragon puzzle appears to be part of the Detour.

from what we do know:
noodles are this leg (possible RB since we only see Jordan doing it). clothes store (high fashion?) is this leg as well (Detour choice) Dragon puzzle (possible RB as well. we only see Cord, Michael, and Brent doing it)
so the question is: which one is the RB, and which one is the other side of the detour?
or are there actually 2 RBs this leg, like our informant stated?
i lean towards the dragon puzzle being the RB myself. otherwise Louie would've been able to assist Mike in completing it.

At the noodles, only Jordan has the chef's outfit on. And it looks like Louie also has flour on his hands at the clothes store, but Michael doesn't (though it's hard to tell).

As of leg 9, Brent has completed 5 roadblocks. I'm not so sure He'd be doing a roadblock on leg 10, unless they've decided to risk Caite having to do all remaining roadblocks for the last two legs.

So it looks like this is why Leg 5 only had a Detour. It's probably just a budget thing. It appears to save costs by having fewer total tasks in the race while still maintaining the 6-6 RB count.

We seriously need a new, longer promo.

Leg 10 has TWO roadblocks........making noodles and making that dragon puzzle on DEC 18th.
Leg 10 11 has a speedbump (counting the golden buddhas), a detour (pork chops or dumplings) and one roadblock (fashion)...on Dec 19th according to the local insider.
Racers CANNOT have flour on their hands at the fashion RB from doing the noodles RB. They are on different days.......so the flour on the hands must come from doing the fashion RB AFTER the detour which is either pork chops or dumplings on the second Shanghai leg, Leg 11.
I think that CBS is mixing up events from both legs in the preview. There is the possibility that the local insider lied to us......but seems doubtful to me now.
Roadblock counts are Jet/Cord 4/4, Brent/Caitie 5/3, Louie/Michael 4/4, and Dan/Jordan 4/3.
Edited to correct a typo. Thanks uycocoa.

YES. Thank you. I'm coming out of my self-imposed posting exile from RFF on weekdays to agree with this. If TAR wants to save money, reducing the number of detours is a good option (especially if there's only one person last leg). That said, I still think there should be at least one roadblock each leg. Perhaps a 7-7 split next season? (It could allow for the introduction of a U-turn like device that forces the other team member to complete the roadblock.)

I don't think the extra RB is needed because there was no detour in Leg 1. So that more or less compensates.

I don't mind Shanghai that much for this season. It's only been used one other time (TAR 6).
But now that it's been used, NO MORE!
same with Beijing! 4 stinking legs! visited on 3 different occasions! really? come on people...
I hate it when they constantly use the same city/area many times over and over again, especially over a short period of time.
Maybe India and China would be a bit more tolerable if they went to NEW places in each. Trust me, they're there.

I hate to say this but please stop going to China. I think India is far more exciting.
I wish to stop going to both countries. Seriously, visited the unvisited or rarely visited ones (I loved Seychelles. The islands are beautiful!) I want them to go back to Australia for some reason. Haven't been there in a long time.
I want them to stop going to Beijing and Shanghai. China is such a big country but only 4 cities have been visited (Gulin, Shanghai, Beijing, Xian)
Hong Kong and Macau don't count?
What irks me is that while China feels overused, it really isn't. Lots of big cities and cultures to visit. In my opinion, it's okay to revisit a city after about 10 installments has elapsed. That's why Beijing in TAR 10 felt refreshing, but TAR 14's visit just dragged. In addition, part of the reason why some countries/cities feel overused is that TAR now spends the second and third to last legs in one place. For instance, revisiting Shanghai in Leg 10 would have been nice to see. But why spend Leg 11 there? Just been there, seen there, done that. It's also egregious that TAR didn't decide to visit Hanzhou, Huzhou, or Nanjing, interesting cities which are only an hour away.
Same goes for India (though TAR was usually good to find some place new until TAR 12) and Thailand.
OTOH, TAR has been good at revisiting some countries, while managing to create distinct legs that focus on different aspects of the nation's culture. The best example is definitely France, which has hosted 7 legs to date. However, Paris has only been visited twice, while the other legs took place in other areas and were unique in their own ways. Other good examples are Italy, Australia, and Brazil.

My bad.
I agree. I live about 1-2 hrs drive from Shanghai and here there are so many Chinese Gardens to visit (even though it isn't good now due to numerous construction sites. :P) and theres Hangzhou and West Lake, TianJin, Harbin (Ice sculptures), Some minorities in Yunnan and lots more. What were getting is only a small piece of the pie. Like Guilin in TAR 14 was okay because it did show the Scenery but China has so much more to offer then what we're getting in Tar.

As Pete Seeger sings it, "The answer, my friends, is blown in the wind." in the form of plane flights. China is almost always either the west-to-east first leg (AR10) or the west-to-east penultimate leg into the U.S. (AR1, AR6, AR14, AR16 and almost AR11 which had Guam in between). It is not good logistics to have very tired teams coming off long Trans-Pacific flights and have to travel any reasonable distance. Similarly, it is not good logistics to have teams not jumping off for non-stop flights from Asia to the U.S. I haven't counted but there are a huge number of those from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong/Macau and to a lesser extent Xian or Guilin. Here are come statistics on major cities (1 million population or more in the city, not the entire Metropolitan Area) in China:
6 above 6 MM (Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Chongqing, Wuhan, Tianjin)
3 between 3 and 6 MM (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shonyang)
32 others between 1 MM and 3MM
For comparison purposes, the U.S. has only 1 over 8 MM (New York City), 1 between 3 and 6 MM (Los Angeles) and 7 between 1 MM and 3 MM (Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Dallas, San Diego).
I think that Amazing Races should be visiting Tianjin, Wuhan, Chongqing, Guangzhou (CAN for prior name Canton) and Shenzhen. I have done a check on direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle to each of those 7 cities at any time on a specific weekday and out of that I found only one hit (LAX to CAN and return). So, it is logistical barriers which have motivated World Race Productions to take the easier route of using Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong/Macau as the primary international connecting points for all the other cities in the top 41 (including Xian and Guilin).

No, I'm kidding. TAR is being preempted by the Country Music Awards, which had the bad taste to schedule it's awards show during the run of TAR. TAR will be back a week from Sunday.

I would agree with Caelestor that a good country to use as an example of better variety by World Race Productions in Amazing Races is France. My statistics, however, indicate that France has only been visited in 5 Amazing Race seasons and a total of 9 major places (not 7 as Caelestor indicated). "I'm from Missouri." Where are the visits beyond these:
AR1 - Paris, Marseilles AR4 - Paris, Marseilles AR6 - Ajaccio (Corsica) AR10 - Paris (plus Caen if you are counting small cities) AR16 - Verdun, Reims/Epernay
However, here are 3 better choices for diversity of the major places visited (meaning not Paris 3 out of 5 visits to France):

You get my point :groan: However, I'd like to ad that Paris in TARs 4 and 10 served a role analogous to Bangkok. Also apskip, your India list incorrectly listed Lucknow and Jodhpur as TAR 5. These two cities were featured in TAR 7, while TAR 5 featured Kolkata.
P.S. Right now, the only reason why we aren't seeing India so often is due to terrorist activity warnings.

The preview says.... "in two weeks" So that's how the two roadblocks makes sense
Strange, in Season 14, two previews were given, this season only one...

Oh my gosh apskip. Anything but Shenzhen. My sister lives there and I visit her three times a year and it's so frickin' boring there. It's a business/industrial city so there's not much sights or interesting cultures to see. I want them to visit Harbin, Hangzhou, and Huangshan, or Lhasa (it's Tibet). Those have awesome sights and cultures are real diverse there. Plus, more self-driving!!

Shenzhen is an excellent place and there still are a lot of places to visit. It would be one of my number 1 choices but still there are a lot of attractions there such as the Window of the World and other gardens.
BUT Remember that this is a thread on Leg 10 in Shanghai and this conversation is irrelevant.

Doesn't that mean there won't be TAR next week, instead the next episode will be featured the week after that? *is a bit confused* ???
I think the two roadblock thing would occur over the next two episodes (4/25 & 5/2), similar to TAR14 where the penultimate leg was an uber leg. However, I'm with those assuming an error in terms of the previews. It's probably from the two final legs prior to the finale, which would most likely have 2 RBs. No show this Sunday due to the ACMs. There wouldn't be a TBC anyway since there are only 3 episodes left after 9 legs aired.

Sorry, but I just recently visited Window of the World, and it's rather poorly maintained.
Anyway, I still wonder when the TBC will be, or a 2-hour special. Maybe it'll follow TAR 14's pattern and have Shanghai 2 as the TBC, or we'll have a 2-hour finale (which I am dying to see)

but in the preview Phil said two roadblocks in next episode, I suppose that really means there will be 2 in one leg? If that means 2 roadblocks in 2 Shanghai legs there's no need to stress on that.
I think 2 roadblocks in next leg is possible because there was no roadblock in the first France leg, so it made up for the total number of roadblocks to be consistent in this season right?

Serendipity...the next two legs are some of the most spoiled we have ever had, thanks to the help of a local insider.. If you read through the spoiler threads, you will find a step by step description of each of the two legs. We also have TWO sources who were on site for the elim in the second leg, so we have lovely photos of that as well.
I'll try to bring stuff over this week, but my schedule is tight, and it is all in the threads if y'all will just read it. Woden has a very nice summary in post 1 of the Timeline thread.
So yes, there are two RB's in the first Shanghai leg...

I made the last post because I just saw some messages above saying that maybe the 2 roadblocks will be for 2 legs and there's a TBC etc., and I actually don't see the mention of 2 roadblocks in your first post (except CBS press release) of this thread (you just mention noodle making as the roadblock), that's why I did my last post.
I am disappointed with the attitude of some people here though, it just happened that the info you know is not posted in this thread that's why I did not know the step by step description, I can read and you don't need to highlight and bold the sentence for me, that's kind of mean.

Serendipity,
They actually are posted in this thread because I reposted them over my and they are quoted below From Page 2 2nd reply from the top And there always is a summary on the first post of these kinds of threads.

I am disappointed with the attitude of some people here though, it just happened that the info you know is not posted in this thread that's why I did not know the step by step description, I can read and you don't need to highlight and bold the sentence for me, that's kind of mean.
serendipity....
The following was posted on Page 2 of this thread. It is what I was referring to in my post above. I didnt have time when I posted to find the reference. That is why I suggested that you read upthread.
Looks like jerseydude and I were posting at the same time.

It is okay serendipity! I haven't even had time to read back through all the other threads myself yet, much as I want to!! Hopefully we'll get all of that pulled over before the episode, there is great stuff there.
And the bolding was a joke for me, it wasn't for you. :kuss:
For those of you who don't know, serendipity is not a newbie here, he has been an enormous help in previous Asian legs...he brought us lots of Hong Kong spoilers during AllStars and has been a big help during some of the other legs in Taiwan and Beijing, so I am very glad to see him back!! :hearts:

Thanks Peach! It's fine, maybe I was a bit over-reacted. It's just because I was reading the first post and others are referring the post from timeline thread, as the first post said the puzzle task is detour which made me misunderstand.
So the puzzle task in fact is a roadblock next leg, but the high fashion in Tian Zi Fang is a task in the penultimate leg? I am a bit confused because we saw promos for that task, the next episode is not a 2-hour one right?

The next leg is the next episode and as CBS has already announced, there are two roadblocks on the same leg in this next one-hour episode. It's a first for TAR, so one needs to set aside the assumption that there's never more than one roadblock on a regular leg. This leg is different. That's what messing up some people's understanding about this next leg and episode. Yes, I know change can be hard to comprehend, but let's just go with the flow and see what happens.

I'm guessing, unless the preview is mixed up, that the clothing task where we see Jordan, Mike and Louie is not the same as the "High Fashion" roadblock that Claire mentioned as part of Shanghai 2.

CBS — April 17, 2010 — After noodling their way through their first Roadblock, Teams are forced to complete a second Roadblock, and the fate of two Teams lies in the hands of confused cabbies on the next episode of The Amazing Race.
