Apparently After the Heath care vote tonight, President Obama will be making alive speech to the Union after. ABC news thinks the vote will take place at 9pm or shortly there after.

I hope we don't miss the ending.

Well I always love an overrun (unless its golf, which to date has never helped the ratings), but typically the best help for ratings is about a 20-30 minute overrun.  The longer the overrun the less benefit.  Oh well.

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Teams went to battle in World War I. (Clips of cops and Jordeff.)  Despite a speed bump, Jordan/Jeff managed to survive, because Louie/Michael targeted Joe/Heidi with the blind U-Turn.  They surrendered.  Another.Detectives.Victory.

Seven teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?

Phil: The pastoral fields of France, during WWI a place of conflict. Today, a sea of tranquility between country towns.  This town with 43 peeps, the pitstop.

CLUE, Louie/Michael, 7:47 am, Drive to Reims.

Phil: Liberated from the English by Joan of Arc, this gothic Cathedral.  First, teams must find the outdoor statue of Joan of Arc.  A street saw player in front of the Cathedral holds their next clue.

Louie/Michael gloat about how all the other "chickens with their heads cut off" are no match for them.  They call the city "REEMS."

Steve/Allie, 8:04 am.

Jet/Cord, 8:13 am. They pronounce "Reims" as REEMS, also.

Dan/Jordan, 8:17 am.

Finally there's enough light to see the damn clue. They try to interpret the clue and think maybe Joan of Arc will speak to them.  As if.

Brandy/Carol, 8:39 am. Talk about getting themselves a little house there.

Teams ask directions while other teams drive semi-lost.

Dimwit Allie thinks Joan of Arc is like the Arc de Triomphe, or summat.

Dan/Jordan bitch about how teams speak lousy English in France.

Finally, Brent/Caite leave.

Saw player ... Steve/Allie, CLUE. It's the name of a champagne or wine.  They get directions to where they'll find it.

In 2nd, Jet/Cord, and 3rd, Cops, find Joan of Arc statue.  They get the same clue, but have different ideas of where they're supposed to go.  We'll see.

Dan/Jordan get the clue as well.  It's a cork, saying LeClerk Briant (spelling?) Champagne.

In last place, Jordeff leave.

Clue: Who's Ready to Cave In?

Phil says teams will have to party like it's 1799. That rocks!

In the back seat, one of the brothers wonders whether Champagne is wine mixed with club soda.

Jordeff vow to catch up, apparently with no idea they're hours behind. She's still driving, so it's unlikely that they'll get anywhere soon.

Steve/Allie are starting to have stress.

Teams begin to arrive at LeClerc Briant.  Cops / Brothers: Who's ready to cave in?

Phil: Teams party like it's 1799.  Rappell a hundred feet down into a wine cave.  Look for a specially marked bottle.  Use a sabre to slice off the cork.  Champagne will shoot out, along with their next clue.

Jet/Cord discover they're off about 60 km.

Brothers get a quick lead when Jordan finds a marked bottle.  Ker - flip!  It's open.  CLUE: Taittinger.

Phil: They must find out that Taittinger is a winery in a nearby village, and go there.

Brent/Caite can't figure out whether Joan of Arc is a guy, a girl ...  They don't seem to have the right statue.

Steve joins Louie down in the batcave.  Here comes Louie, back with a bottle.  Ker-flip!  It's open and they finally get the clue.  "Taittinger.  La Marquette."

Brent/Caite don't hear any saw music, so they'll ask directions for something.  But she doesn't know what she wants to ask directions for.  She tells Brent he has an attitude!    They get back in their car, and she even bitches at him about the position of his car seat!

Steve finds a bottle and pops the cork in 3rd. Off they go with the Taittinger clue.

Carol/Brandy are just arriving at the RB in 4th.  Brandy bitches about Steve.  Is there anyone they like?  Carol suggests Brandy might be in a "pisass mood."  Umm, yeah, always.

Dan/Jordan ask directions.  So do Louie/Michael.  The winery is in Pierry. The winery is in Reims.  Wait a minute ... somebody's getting crap directions!

OMG with the departure times given for this week and with the departure times from last week.  I was able to figure out how long it took teams to perform last week's leg.  Now obviously Joe & Heidi took the longest, guess who was next in being the slowest team to complete the days challenge?

A tie between Brent & Caite (no surprise as they had to backtrack 8 miles, plus walking time) & Louie & Michael.

Can you believe that crap.  It took them 10 hours 12 minutes.

The fastest team was.....Dan & Jordan, followed by Jet & Cord, Carol & Brandy then Steve & Allie, Jordan & Jeff.

Louie & Michael performed the days tasks a whole minute slower then Jordan & Jeff.  WTF.  And that counts as a solid win for them.

Post by: mswood on March 21, 2010, 08:19:51 PM
Brandy finally finds a bottle.  They leave in 4th with the Taittinger clue.

Steve/Allie ask a painter for directions.  He sends them back where they just came from.

Do the French give lousy directions, or what??

Jet/Cord finally arrive at the wine cave. They count 4 teams ahead of them.  Good at math, apparently.

In last, Jordeff reach the Musical Saw lady and get the Champagne Cork clue.

Woman tells Jet/Cord that Taittinger is in Reims.  The cops are going to Pierry.  Dan/Jordan are going to Reims, too.

But the Cops are correct!
Louie/Michael, DETOUR.
Phil: Tower, or Terra?  Tower, use 680 glasses to build a 15-level tower with exactly 1 glass on top.  No broken glasses, must fill with champagne.
Terra: Find a cluster of grape marked in race colors, in a vineyard.

Cops choose the needle-in-haystack task.

Dan/Jordan arrive at Taittinger, Reims office, where they have the business HQ.  They get directions back to the castle in the middle of nowhere.

Brent goes down into the cave, retrieves the bottle, opens it. Caite complains that they didn't get to drink any champagne.

Cops argue about colors of grape clusters in a field full of grapes.

Jordeff arrive at the RB. She doesn't want to be stuck in a dark place, so he reluctantly agrees to rapel down into the cave.
Jord conf: We havcen't seen any teams, but somebody could get lost or something.

Steve, driving, had a boo-boo and tears off the front end of the Benz.  Plus, they found the wrong Taittinger.  The part of the airdam is dragging against the road and the wheel.  Steve gets out; yeah, it IS dragging against the wheel.  He comes up with a plan to dislodge the broken part ...

Jordeff leave the RB in last, after trying some of the million year old champagne.
Jeff: It's good!

Steve kicks at the airdam.  It just fragments into more shards, all pointing every-which-away under the wheel well. They debate whether to request a new car.

Steve fixes the dam with duct tape.  Sort-of.

Michael finds the colored grapes!  "If I can find a crack in someone's rear end, I can find grapes!"  CLUE: Drive yourselves to the pitstop.

Phil: L'Orcca, the historic mansion, is the pitstop.  Last team to arrive may be eliminated.

Jet/Cord make the same mistake lots of teams did ... they went to the wrong place (although a different wrong place) and are told to go to Pierry.

In 2nd, CLUE: Dan/Jordan, choose Tower.
"I personally believe that when you have a luck challenge and a skill challenge, you choose the skill challenge!  We've seen lots of champagne towers at the Bar and Bat mitzvahs we've been to!"

Mime, in costume: WELCOME TO CHAMPAGNE-ARDENNE.

Phil: Louie/Michael, you're Team #1. You've each won a 5 night trip for 2 to LeBlanc Spa in Cancun.

Brent/Caite ask directions to Taittinger and don't get any.

Carol/Brandy quickly find the grapes. They leave the DETOUR in 2nd.

Dan/Jordan begin stacking champagne glasses to a loud, LOUD string quartet.  They think the music tells them "bleak" when they're not doing well.

Steve/Allie choose grapes.  Steve: "Hopefully the grapes pop out at me like the curb did!"

Brent/Caite and Brandy/Carol FOOTRACE ...   But Brent/Caite FAILED TO DO THE DETOUR!  They have to return to the Race course.

Mime: Welcome to Champagne-Ardenne!
Phil: Brandy/Carol, you're Team #2.

Dan/Jordan debate HOW to build a champagne tower 15 stories high.  They can't figure out the math.  Or can they?  They might be able to ...

Jet/Cord search for grapes with Brent/Caite already present.

Phil: Steve/Allie, you're Team #3.
Allie: We went to the wrong town!
Steve: I messed up the car! I hope you guys are insured!

Caite considers leaving the field as Jet/Cord finish with a bunch of grapes.
Caite: I just think we'd already be done building.

Dan/Jordan make a tower with the last 3 glasses 1 floor each!    They get ready to pour.

Caite bitches at Brent, but they're still on the field.

Cork pops ... It's the GI NOUR MOUS 64 liter bottle of champagne they have to make fill an entire room full of glasses!

Back to Brent/Caite.  She wants to build.  He agrees to give her what she wants. They leave the field.

Dan/Jordan are halfway done.  Brent/Caite arrive and start stacking glassware.

Phil: Jet/Cord, you're Team #4.

Brent conf: We'd have found the grapes by now, but I'd've had my ear chewed off another hour and 20 minutes.  It's a tower, although it looks a little unsteady in spots.  They start to pour.  H U G E - A  S S bottle of champagne!  CRRRRAAASSSSHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!on1!!!!!!!!!!

Brent: Sucks.

Jordan & Jeff walk past a couple of marked grapes, but finally find one and get eliminated. Good. Get out.

That's the most beautiful crash of glassware I've ever seen!

Brent/Caite go back outside ... back into the field. Jordeff arrive, happy that someone might still be doing the Detour.

Jeff, logically thinks (!) that because Brent/Caite are outside looking, that the grapes must be like, impossible to find.  So he and Jordan go inside to build a tower, not realizing that they just F A I L E D at that.

Phil: Dan/Jordan, you're Team #5.

Jeff tries to convince Jordan they can build a tower.

Caite finds a colored bunch of grapes.  He elicits an apology for them, not having stayed their earlier.

C R A S H ! ! ! !  A chunk of glassware hits the floor. Jordeff must start over or change Detours.

Phil: Brent/Caite, pick a number.
Both: Six?  Yeah!

Hell I seriously pick on Dandrew, but even those idiots were just goofballs.  These two teams alone have to be the dumbest teams that have ever been cast on this show.

Then the other half have about as much competition in them as John and Scott.  I don't want to run!!!!,  I don't want to get dirty!!!!

How about I want to kill all of you!!!!

On top of everything else, ****ing Yuku ate my last post. What a ****ing ****stain of a website this is.

Reconstructed ...

Jordeff, at night, search for the grapes. They eventually find them with flashlights.

Phil: Sorry to tell you, you have been eliminated from the Race.
Jeff: I could complain about the million, but I have Jordan, and that's priceless.
Jordan: I did a lot of fun stuff I could never do anywhere else. This was the best!
Jeff: That was really nice, Jordan!

I just can't believe this season.  Looking at the first episode things look really good (as far as racers, their ability and their attitude) look really good (save Adrian & Dana and that does happen), but hear we are episode 6.  And we have a tremendous number of errors, teams that have to real drive to succeed, teams that don't want to get down and dirty, and then just a host of people that are incredibly stupid.

Heck look at Jet & Cord (one of the few teams I really like) sure they don't have much world experience, but thats OK, I don't judge that.  But I expect all the teams to have some basic reasoning skills, and my God!  its a barren waste land out there.

Jeff: "What are we doing this for? To teach kids to stay in school?" :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

EXACTLY! :'(

Seriously, the teams that are still racing have severe competitiveness and intelligence issues. I get the feeling that Dana & Adrian and Jody & Shannon would have been smarter (even though Jody & Shannon weren't so competitive). The issue might be that we've just lost all the intelligent teams early. :P

This is why the casting director needs to be replaced. Too many mactors and dumbed-down Americans. Let's get some smart people instead (I am begging at this point). :umn:

Still, this was a solid episode that was actually dangerous for the stupid teams. If legs like this continue, the stupid teams should be gone soon enough.

I just want to clarify that when I state a team is stupid, I am not talking about what people call book smarts, but the ability read, have basic comprehension skills, and the ability to think on their fleet.

Take Eric & Jeremy a team that no one would accuse of being smart (including themselves), yet with a few exceptions raced extremely smart.

In fact many of the "Mactor" teams have raced well over their seasons.

Teams need a balance, of basic reasoning skills, and basic athleticism to typical do well on this race (their have been exceptions).

I don't think so far that any of the eliminated teams have shown any balance.

To be fair, the tourist office shared some of the blame. Furthermore, this season is much harder navigation-wise since maybe TAR 6? Racers have not been spoon-fed instructions, and it shows. BADLY.  :groan:

However, this was the best leg in terms of task design and execution (editing) since TAR 14. Now we just need to fix the cast. I understand the casting director needs drama, but really, stupidity lowers the enjoyment.

Caite really grated this leg, and it looks like she'll continue next episode. My God that voice. She needs to get out ASAP. Well one can wish...

Actually self navigation wise seasons 7, 9, 10, 11 all had far more (in miles way, way more) and in far worse (and difficult areas, both in locations and language barriers) then what teams have had to do this season.

Wow, my memory is shoddy. Then again I watched those seasons in middle school.
Still,  you have to admit 4 out of 6 legs with self-driving trumps every edition post-11.

It certainly is better then seasons 13, 14 and 15.  Season 12 actually had some driving in it.  Difficulty wise probably not a ton, but mileage wise more then what they have had to do so far.

But really this season the distance they have driven hasn't been that great.   But like you say it is an improvement over the last few seasons.

It was reallllllly hard to get a good direction from locals!  We had a sweet German couple led us from the detour task to the pit stop in Austria. Big helpful would be to have a local to lead a team to the tasks instead of writing directions down. That could pretty much could seal your fate.

With the possible exception of Joe & Heidi, I'd agree that none of the eliminated teams showed a real balance.  Then again, Joe & Heidi got the U-Turn and had to do a Morse Code thing -- which would've been real hard for me, even though I have at least one Nancy Drew game that uses Morse Code!

But let me say that despite the continued lack of basic skills for several of the teams, this was still one of my favorite legs for this season. Humor, self-driving, Jeff & Jordan's overdue demise, difficult clues, and racers very much relying on their own skills. :wohoo:

After looking through the TAR1-TAR15 stats on wiki, it confirms my belief about how bad the racers are this season.

When adding up the placements for the first 6 legs for both Dan & Jordan and Brent & Caite, you end up with a total of 37 for each team.  We've never had two teams in the final 3 perform as badly as these two teams have performed through 6 legs.

I hate it when teams get lead to their locations (I wish it was illegal).  Seriously on something that has the term race in it, I find that the ability to get directions, use a map, and research (can stress how often older seasons used Hotels and internet).  You rarely saw teams pay a cab or ask a local to ride with them or drive in front guiding them.

Didn't somebody state that Mike & Louie got a penalty in a SA leg for hiring a taxi cab to lead them? ???
So I guess the taxi cab issue is settled. And as for the ferns, I believe being able to interact with the locals is as valuable (if not more) than navigation skills, but that's just my opinion.

The paying the cab driver got really ridiculous in TAR 10 with Erwin & Godwin and the Beauty Queens paying taxi drivers all over the place. And it also got out of hand in TAR Asia.

Yeah, I'm glad to see the cabs being taken out of play. But I hope it doesn't necessarily mean more kidnapping of locals a la Charla & Mirna. The way they used to strongarm locals was this close to taking them for a ride.

I don't mean during rest periods or during the Pit Stops.  Teams would use the internet when stopping at hotels for directions (usually a good place to get directions and to get descent cab service), they would use the internet while waiting for flights, or for buses (they still use those and still have to wait).

I am not saying teams did it all the time, but it was a tool that was used.  I will say that several of the teams this week stopped at what should be good places, whether they got bad directions because only using the name and not the full clue, or just error on the part of locals, it does happen.  But I would rather that then just having a local drive you there.  I mean seriously.  How often in seasons 1-9 did you see teams do this?  It's not very damn often.  With season 10 and sense it seemed to happen quite often (that and paying for an escort).

Well, one just can't use placement.  I mean the previous episode Louie & Michael get #1 (yet in a leg that was completely in their control, no bunching, no waiting for transport, no mass transport, no public transport.  Yet only one team actually performed the leg slower then them and that is Joe & Heidi.  I mean seriously.

Even though placement might not tell the whole story, when there are two final 3 teams that have a total combined placement of 74, which is the worst in race history through 6 legs, it stands out.

In 15 seasons, no winning team, through 6 legs, has ever had an average placement lower than 5.

Dan & Jordan and Brent & Caite, through 6 legs, are each averaging 6.1666.

ETA:
I crunched the numbers, and, assuming that there are 12 legs, if Dan & Jordan and Brent & Caite end up winning, the only way that either team will avoid having the distinction as the worst performing winners in race history is by winning every single leg left.  (If there are 11 legs, then there's nothing that either team can do in order to avoid that distinction, if they win.)

As long as the insider information about Jet & Cord winning leg 11 is accurate, neither Dan & Jordan nor Brent & Caite will win six straight legs.

I'd like to know if Eric & Danielle are rooting for Dan & Jordan or Brent & Caite to win the race because either team winning guarantees that Eric & Danielle will no longer be the worst.

Just trying to think out of the box and to stir the controversy, but what if D/J and B/C are just playing dumb? As many previous teams have stated "we only need to come in first in the last leg"

I'm sure they're not dumb, per say. Daniel and Jordan aren't that bad at task-completing, it's just that they have problems with navigation. Brent/Caite don't have team spirit and are just doing badly right now.

Cork pops ... It's the GI NOUR MOUS 64 liter bottle of champagne they have to make fill an entire room full of glasses!

I have studied extra-large champagne bottles and the largest standard size is 15 liters. There are custom 18, 24 and 30 liter bottle sizes. The one commonality is that all are divisble by 3 liters. My guess is that the custom bottle was 60 liters (64 is possible but much less likely). That would weigh around 300 pounds filled, so obviously it had to be pre-opened and a lot of it reserved for putting back in increments for the pour.
