Thanks to Slowhatch for bringing us this fabulous news!!

It looks as if a China franchise (http://jobs.studiodaily.com/c/job.cfm?site_id=1947&jb=6493232) is getting off the ground.

Amazing Race China is looking for a number of production roles to be filled immediately.

The show is a team-based, race-structured competition that follows 10 teams through 12 different cities in China as they compete for first place. Along the way they must complete tasks in each city and battle each other to avoid being eliminated.

Production is scheduled to begin in late April/Early May running through mid-June with post-production scheduled to continue until September. Each episode will involve three day shoots in each city with a day break in between.

Wondering if they are accepting applications already?? ???

If you don't speak and read Chinese fluently, I'd expect you'd be at a severe disadvantage.  :ascared

Maybe it's an Amazing Race: China for non-Chinese?

I'm interested to see if they cast non-Mandarin speakers.

From a viewership perspective, it would make more sense to have the racers speak Mandarin, although non-Mandarin speakers would probably provide more drama.

The site states, "The program will be broadcast in English, with Chinese subtitles."

From the main page:
Quote
The shooting schedule will take place between the end of April 2010 and June 2010, with broadcasting dates running from August 15 until October 31. The program will be broadcast in English, with Chinese subtitles, and will be put together by an international production team. There will be 20 international contestants on 10 teams, all from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Throughout the series they will carry out a series of competitive tasks in order to find the ‘key’ to the following week’s episode. As this will be judged against the clock, one of the teams will be eliminated on a weekly basis. So it is not simply a test of individual capability, but also of emotional strength and teamwork. The eventual winners will receive a very special, mystery grand prize. China Rush will offer a unique platform to explore and promote Chinese culture through its great cities, perfectly complementing the 2010 Expo philosophy of ‘Better City, Better Life’.

Amazing Race heads into China

The CBS reality adventure format The Amazing Race is to be produced locally in China and will air this summer, Disney-ABC International Television Asia Pacific has confirmed.

The company has signed a rights deal with Shanghai Media Group (SMG), under which the Chinese firm will produce a 12-episode weekly series, titled China Rush, to air from August. Disney will provide consultation to the production team at SMG.

The season finale will air in October 2010, to coincide with the end of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The show will be telecast in English, with Chinese subtitles, on SMG’s International Channel Shanghai (ICS) network."China Rush will showcase the best of Chinese culture, cities, cuisine and cordiality; as participants travel far and wide across our great nation throughout the gameshow," said Xu Hao, assistant president of SMG.

This isn't the first time the format was been produced locally in Asia. Disney and Sony Pictures Television's AXN Asia channel announced an Asian edition of the race, billed as The Amazing Race Asia, back in 2006. The format has also been localised by Discovery Channel in Latin America.

Disney-ABC preps regional version of popular series

Disney-ABC has partnered with Shanghai Media Group to produce a local version of The Amazing Race series in China.

Titled China Rush, the series will be shot at locations across China and air weekly to audiences starting in August 2010. The season finale will air in October, coinciding with the end of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

The show will be telecast in English with Chinese subtitles on SMG's International Channel Shanghai network.

"China Rush will showcase the best of Chinese culture, cities, cuisine and cordiality; as participants travel far and wide across our great nation throughout the game show," said Xu Hao, assistant president of SMG. "Working with Disney enables us to adapt a popular global program format for our audiences in China."

Rob Gilby, senior vice president and managing director of Disney-ABC Asia Pacific, said the show is the optimal example of bringing Disney's expertise to work with SMG's experience and capabilities to serve the Chinese-speaking communities.

SMG's venue is the only English television channel in Shanghai and it currently broadcasts to 4.7 million families in the city.

The eligibility Requirements (copied from the website referenced by GeorgiaPeach) do not address nationality, so I guess it would be from any country worldwide.

 II.   Eligibility Requirements

Please note that the following eligibility requirements must be met in order to proceed with the application process.  Failure to comply will cause the application to be void.  Please do not submit more than one (1) application. We will not consider duplicate applications or submissions.

a.       Each applicant must have a teammate in order to apply to participate on the Program.  Each individual teammate must complete the online application form with all necessary photographs and documents, along with a video clip no longer than 4 minutes long (submission requirements and the nature of this videotape is described in more detail above), and only one (1) application package per team will be accepted.

b.      If the Producers select your team as one of the teams that they would like to interview as part of the semi-finalist/finalist interview process, you and your team-mate will be asked to participate in a live audition either online via web video, or in person at an unspecified location in China.  The dates and times of the interview(s) will be set by the Producers sometime in March/April of 2010 and may be revised by the Producers in their sole discretion.

c.       Applicant interviews may consist of one or more meetings with one or more members of the production staff and may be videotaped at the Producers' discretion.

d.      Teams chosen to participate in the Program (and alternate teams, if any) will be flown from their local airports to an unknown destination somewhere in China and will be allowed to bring a limited number of items permitted by the Producers (excluding, among other things, certain items, to be specified later, the possession of which may subject participants to disqualification), which each participant must be able to carry by him or herself.  Teams' bags will be subject to search by the Producers at any time for illegal or inappropriate items that otherwise violate the Producers' or the International Channel of Shanghai (ICS) standards and practices. ** If selected as a participant, you and your teammate must be willing to travel to numerous locations around China lasting approximately 30 to 45 days starting sometime between April through June of 2010.  Each participant is also responsible for bringing a passport that is valid until at least July 1, 2011 and has a minimum of ten (10) blank pages and one (1) other form of photo identification with them.

e.       Both members of each team must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

f.       During the course of the Race, teams may be asked to drive vehicles with manual and/or automatic transmissions.  Each team is responsible for ensuring that at least one member can drive a vehicle with a manual transmission and at least one member can drive an automatic transmission.  One member of each team must have a valid driver's license with which the Producers will assist finalists in procuring an International Drivers’ Permit.  Each team is responsible for the consequences of their inability to drive or operate a given vehicle, and the Producer is not obligated to provide any instructions or assistance of any kind to any Team in connection with the operation of any vehicle.  Any Team members who do not have a valid driver's license shall not drive or operate any motorized vehicles which require a valid driver's license to operate.

g.      An applicant may not presently be a legally qualified candidate for any type of political office (Candidate) and may not become a Candidate from the time his or her application is submitted until one (1) year after the initial broadcast date of the last episode of the Program in which the applicant were to appear, if that applicant were to be selected as part of a participant team.

h.      All applicants must be in good physical and mental health and must be aware that, and sign releases attesting that, the activities in the Program may involve risks and hazards, and that participating in the Program may expose applicant and other participants to, among other things, the risk of death, serious injury, illness and property damage caused by the risks associated with their participation in the Program, including, without limitation, the following: latent or apparent defects or conditions in any equipment used in the Program; the use or operation by applicant or others of said equipment; acts of other people including, without limitation, acts of the Producers or other participants; accommodations; weather or other natural conditions; the nature of travel including, without limitation, latent defects and human error; applicant's physical condition; applicant's own acts or omissions; sleep deprivation; first-aid, medical or emergency treatment or other services rendered to applicant or others; exposure to illness; consumption of food or drink; acts of God (e.g., earthquakes and floods); laws or local ordinances; war or riots; terrorism; strikes; and/or no reason at all.  Applicants must understand and acknowledge that the above list of reasons is not complete or exhaustive. Applicants must accept and assume all risks of injury, death, illness or disease, or other damage to themselves, to others, or to their property, which arise in any way from their participation in this Program, and will not hold the Producers responsible.

i.        Each applicant must complete, sign and timely return the Online Application before being eligible to participate in the interview process.  In addition, all applicants must complete, sign, and timely return any additional required documents before any semi-finalist interview, and must complete, sign and timely return the Release and Waiver Agreement and any additional required documents before being permitted to participate in any finalist interviews.  The additional required documents may include, but will not necessarily be limited to, a Medical Report by Patient and Physician, Emergency Medical Release, Authorization for Release of Medical Records and Information, Disclosure and Authorization for Background Reports, Immediate Family Member Releases and a Confidentiality Agreement (all of which will be furnished to the applicants).   As part of the Release and Waiver Agreement, each applicant must agree (and each applicant's immediate family members, if any, must agree) to, among other things, assume the risk of any and all injury, illness, death, damage, loss, or harm to the applicant or applicant's property, howsoever caused, resulting from or arising out of the selection of participants, applicant's participating in the Program as a participant or otherwise, and/or the production and/or exploitation of the Program.  By agreeing to the terms of the Confidentiality Agreement, each applicant will be required to, among other things, treat all information and material received or acquired in connection with applicant's participation in the participant selection process and Program (if selected as a participant), including, without limitation, the progress, results and outcome of the Program, as strictly confidential and shall be strictly required to not disclose any such information to any third party. Without limiting Producer's right to obtain other relief from the applicant, any breach of the Confidentiality Agreement will subject the applicant to substantial liquidated damages in accordance with the terms of the Confidentiality Agreement. In connection with any disclosure authorizations or authorizations for release of records or other information, all applicants must authorize the Producers to conduct such full and complete background checks of the applicant as the Producers, in their sole discretion, deem necessary or appropriate.  The applicants will be required to cooperate fully with the Producers in connection with such background investigations.

j.        Applicants must disclose to the Producers if they have ever been charged with a felony or misdemeanour, other than minor traffic or parking violations, and whether they have ever had a restraining order entered against them.  The Producers reserve the right in their discretion to disqualify any applicant based on such disclosures.

k.      All applicants must have a valid passport or be in the process of obtaining a passport (which process will be completed in time for the applicant to travel internationally should the applicant be selected as a participant) and deliver a copy of such passport or proof of such passport application process at the time of submission of The Amazing Race: China Rush participant application.  All passports must be valid until at least July 1, 2011 and must contain at least ten (10) blank pages.

l.        All participants must agree to interact with the other participants and cooperate with Producers during the taping of the Program on a twenty-four-(24)-hours-a-day, seven-(7)-days-a-week basis.  Participants must be able to travel for long periods of time, must be adaptable to various living and travelling situations and must enjoy living and travelling in close proximity with others of varied age, sex, race, background, and experience.

m.    Participants must be willing to receive all needed immunizations that the Producers deem to be necessary and medically appropriate to the race.  Teams must agree to take any medications needed to prevent illness in certain foreign countries.  Teams must be willing to participate in the Program without any interruption during any time of the year, regardless of personal or religious practices.

n.      Employees, officers, directors and agents of any of the Producers and the immediate family (spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, daughter or son, regardless of where they live) or members of their same households (whether related or not) of such employees, officers, directors and agents are not eligible to be participants on the Program or to participate in this application process.

o.      Upon the Producers' request, all applicants and/or participants agree to sign and abide by the terms of any additional releases or authorizations that the Producers, in their sole discretion, deem necessary.

p.      All applicants must abide by all applicable laws during the application process and if selected as a participant, all applicable laws during the period in which the Program is being taped.

q.      The Producers reserve the right to make additions to and/or deletions from the application process above, including, but not limited to, changes to the locations, dates and/or times of the interviews.  The Producers also reserve the right to contact applicants to ask additional questions and/or conduct phone interviews to gather additional information about applicants .  Such phone interviews are not required and at the Producers' sole discretion to assist in gathering information for participant selection.  Without limiting the foregoing, the Producers reserve the right not to produce the Program, and The International Channel of Shanghai (ICS) has no obligation to broadcast the Program.

r.        The Producers are not responsible for lost, stolen, or incorrectly mailed applications.   Due to the high volume of applications the Producers are anticipating, the Producers will not be able to answer any questions about the receipt or status of any application or videotape.  All applications (including any video footage submitted by the applicants) become the sole property of the Producers.  The Producers shall have the right to use and exploit such video footage in any and all media, worldwide in perpetuity with no obligation to the applicants.

s.       All decisions regarding the Program, including but not limited to, rules, eligibility, participant selection, Program production, game play, tasks, participant elimination and award of prizes, are at the Producers' sole and exclusive discretion, are final, and not subject to appeal.  Participants will not be awarded any prize winnings, if and as applicable, until after the initial broadcast of the final episode of the cycle in which those Participants appeared (i.e., the episode in which the winning team of that cycle is announced).  Participants will be personally responsible for any taxes on any prizes.   The applicants must sign statements acknowledging that they have read and will comply with all of the eligibility requirements described herein.

t.        The Producers reserve the right to disqualify any team for any reason, including, without limitation, any team member's tampering with the application process or the operation of the application process, threatening or harming another person, colluding with other participants to share prize winnings, or violating the Official Rules or other rules then in effect or the standards and practices and policies of the Producers and/or ICS.  Disqualification may result in, among other things, immediate forfeiture of any prize otherwise awarded or awardable.

u.      By submitting an application, each applicant agrees to release, discharge and hold harmless the Producers and ICS from all claims and damages arising out of his/her participation in the application process or the Program itself, and to have his or her name, voice and likeness used at the Producers' discretion as part of the Program, or as part of promotions for the Program, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised.

Actually there are a lot of other versions of the Amazing Race in Chinese for Chinese. I saw one on a video website the other day and skim through it and it sucked. Basically the teams were intersected the whole race and I didn't see any detours or Rbs. :P Hope this one will be better but not expecting anything.

P.S: It has to be TAR: China for Non-Chinese because like at least half of the chinese population can't speak English (farmers, factory workers etc...)

How many RFF have planned to join it?? I must say that, had I had the required age, I would have already sent my application form.

PS: Is this a 18+ or a 21+ race? I mean, the required age.

That would be strange...maybe they haven't heard of spoilers?? :funny:

We have this:
Production is scheduled to begin in late April/Early May running through mid-June with post-production scheduled to continue until September. Each episode will involve three day shoots in each city with a day break in between.

What it DOES tell us is that TAR 4 won't be filming anytime before mid-June.  :yess:

'The Amazing Race: China rush'

2010-04-27 17:30
A 12-episode series reality show, held its grand press conference and lensing ceremony in the Hilton Shanghai Hotel. The attendees included Ms. Wang Jianjun, Deputy Director of Information Office of Shanghai Municipality; Mr. Xu Hao, Assistant President of SMG; and representatives from the show's co-producers, CCTV News, the Walt Disney Company Greater China, and International Channel Shanghai (ICS).

In 2009, the 12-episode'Shanghai Rush', produced by the ICS team of SMG, was a great success. This Expo year, ICS will broaden its scope to produce'China Rush’, aiming to explore and promote Chinese culture through exciting and thrilling outdoor competitions around the nation's great cities, perfectly complementing the 2010 Expo philosophy of'Better City, Better Life'.

Disney ABC International Television (DAIT)'s reality show'The Amazing Race'has won world fame and earned all seven of its "Outstanding Reality-Competition Program" Emmy Awards. Now, the Chinese TV network ICS has acquired the rights to produce a version. As a part of the agreement, DAIT will be in charge of extending a global reach and providing formatting and consultation, working with SMG's expertise and capabilities to ensure that the show captures the excitement of the original'The Amazing Race’series while tapping into China's unique flavor.

Since Hamilton'The Amazing Race: China Rush'began recruiting, thousands of people from over 40 countries and districts applied through the official website and by e-mail. Now 20 contestants have passed the tough audition, and they come from Australia, Kenya, India, Mexico, Latvia, United States, and Canada. Beginning April 28, the 10 teams of two will start their magical mystery journey around China, with the Shanghai Expo Park as their first stop.

After one month filming across China, the finale will also be shot in the Shanghai Expo Park. The competition will adopt the last-one-out system. In the end, only one team will survive and take home the grand prize-a world tour provided by Travelzen.com. The host will be Chinese-American Allan Wu, who has hosted all three seasons of'The Amazing Race Asia'.

Title sponsored by world-class Hamilton Watch, the The Amazing Race: China Rush will premiere in primetime on August 8th, 2010 on ICS and air weekly to audiences in China. Global audiences will be able to watch through CCTV International (CCTV-9) one week after the ICS premiere. For detailed information, please visit http://www.chinarush.tv.

I browsed all the team bios, and the teams going to China for the first time, like the Masai Warriors--Paul & Francis, might be in trouble.

Latvian team, Janis & Aleksandra looks really strong, but they don't live in China, so they could have difficulties too. Although they have experience in Reality T.V (Fear Factor, Dancing With The Stars ), But nothing like The Amazing Race, She is a dancer and he is a T.V Host in Latvia.

and he told me he saw some Amazing Race Teams in Hong Kong today.

Details
He went to work this morning at 10:30am.
Walking passed the Jordan MTR startion.
Saw 3-4 teams with tee labeled with "Amazing Race"
No cameraman were spotted by my friends.

Will it mean that it started in Hong Kong?

or Suzhou, Jiangsu
(http://www.vte.qc.ca/uploads/Images/Chine/suzhou.jpg)

or Wuzhen, Jiangsu

so most probably it is in Jiangsu, China.

i though it was something like NIMBAO, but Ningbo makes sense, and Ningbo is in Zhejiang, that borders Jiangsu, so it could be an inter-province leg or the pit stop could be from a different leg. Both provinces borders Shanghai, so it's maybe the 1st or 2nd leg.

From Suzhou to Ningbo is 230 - 287 km, 2:49 - 3:15 minutes.

He's standing behind the race mat in two different locations.

One location doesn't have a sign, and the other looks like a train station with a cropped sign with only "ZHOU" showing.

Most probably Suzhou, that means the first leg is in Ningbo and the second one in Suzhou or vice-versa. I think Allan is trying to distract us, by mixing pictures from the 1st and 2nd leg.

So TARA4 is going to start in end of May or early June ...

Tough for Allan ... and good for him as well...

Quick and rough translation to English:
Quote
<posted 07 May 2010>
Large scale reality TV Programme "China Rush!" has come to Changzhou (常州) for filming

At Qingfeng Park (青枫公园), the racers who were the first in getting their clue sped off to the next route marker while reading their clue.

Foreigners were in Changzhou for a day of tension, suspense, and freshness (this phrase doesn't really translate well >.<)
At 1.30pm yesterday, a group of hurriedly walking foreigners with large backpacks appeared in Qingfeng Park (青枫公园), some doing rock-climbing within the park while others were trying out difficult tricks on skateboards.

By 2.30pm, after anxiously flagging down taxis, the teams were soon spotted in a 2nd floor work station at a Changzhou comb factory.  Each team of two search through baskets containing more than 2000 combs in order to find combs that were carved with the words "China Rush".

As the clock starts to strike 3pm, these same foreigners quickly make their way to the exercise area in Miduqiao Elementary School (觅渡桥小学) where each team is to plait braids for 10 students using the combs they found earlier.

After which, they continue on in Changzhou by foot, passing the Old City Walls (古城墙), Lai Meng area (莱蒙社区), the sunken city (春秋淹城 - some archaelogical ruins from the Spring-Autumn Period?) etc.

You must be curious as to who these foreigners are.  They have done quite a few weird and interesting tasks while visiting some fun and scenic Changzhou attractions, and all in the space of one day.

in actual fact, production crew of "China Rush" were in Changzhou yesterday to film some exciting moments.

"China Rush" aims to show the world the modern atmosphere and historical heritage of China's cities

At the location shoot, programme producer Xia Jing (夏靖) does a simple introduction to reporters:
The programme that's being shot at the moment is called "China Rush!", and is a reality series that showcases a widespread cultural experiences in Chinese cities to the world.  "From an international group of applicants, we have selected 20 people of a range of characters and races (i.e. skin color) from America, Canada, Kenya and various other nations, and they are competing in 10 teams in various tasks."

It isn't easy to sieve through 2000 combs just to find one with the words "China Rush!" on it.
Teams left the starting point at the Shanghai World Expo site on 28 April, and would be travelling through the country to 12 cities for a month on their own abilities.  During the month of travel, they would be showing the audience each city's unique blend of modernity and cultural heritage, demonstrating Shanghai World Expo site's theme of "Better City, Better Life".

"Teams and production teams would be at various cities from May to June for filming, with each episode lasting 1 hour.  All dialogue would be in English with Chines subtitles.  Walt Disney has already bought international broadcasting rights, and would be airing the show world-wide."

Changzhou - Leg 3
Changzhou would be the teams' third stop.

From Qingfeng Park to a comb factory to Lai Meng, and then to the Spring-Autumn sunken city, producer Xia Jing tells reporters  that prior to officially deciding the race route, the organizers came to Changzhou and were mesmerized by the juxtaposition of modern and tradition.  "We would like to show the world the real, charming side of Chinese cities.  You see, one of the racers even sent me a message saying that this is a very beautiful city."

After finding the comb, teams immediately go to Miduqiao Elementary School to comb and plait the hair of 10 schoolgirls
The leg in Changzhou is the same as all the other legs, and teams may be eliminated here.  Yesterday, 9 teams went through various tasks and trials at the fastest possible speed with the elimination of the team checking in last.  The reporters present feel that within the intense competition, there's also emotional and intellectual challenges.

The programme will premiere on 8 Aug on the Shanghai Foreign Language Channel (海外语频道), and on 15 Aug on CCTV-9.  Please keep an eye out for glimpses of Changzhou!

p/s.  Do let me know if I got any names of the places wrong... Not confident of the translation of places >.< Will try and track down some of the places later....

Hi,I also find a press release about yangzhou leg in chinese, maybe someone can translate? :yess:
http://www.yznews.com.cn/news/2010-05/07/content_3219097.htm

Here's what google spat out:

"China Rush's "player of Yangzhou" checkpoints"

Yangzhou Network News (Dai Yan) May 7

Large-scale foreign propaganda Expo TV project "China Rush" the official film crew team to Yang. In just one day of the contest period, eight pairs of players have finished in the yang, a park and other attractions of the design task and game link of paper cutting, carving, painting, calligraphy, etc. (??) The project features a series full of feelings of Yangzhou, and the ancient city's cultural quintessence. It is reported that Yangzhou is the counrty's 4th city in the 12 city race. By the previous leg, two teams are eliminated (Not sure what this means). On May 7, a total of eight pairs have arrived in Yangzhou, Changzhou station (?) to race. Around 9 AM, reporters and contestants have reached the yang, here they will start their own "adventure" in Yangzhou, and in turn go to a park, off East Street, Yangzhou hotel and with other people to complete the game link. Finally, in the Yangzhou Railway Station collection. In the race, players do not only use "checkpoints." (Route Marker?) To succeed, they get a "Task Card" (Roadblock/Detour?) and go to the next site to continue the adventure trip. They finally got to the station (Pit Stop I think) and will determine their order of rank in Yangzhou. At 12:53,  2 teams that successfully completed Changzhou, players race to take a taxi in advance to the yang, they are prompted by staff to quickly ascend to  Runyang tower in the Zhenjiang district of Yangzhou (Not exactly sure about the name of location, needs more research), take the elevator to the middle of the bridge to retrieve the task card.
According to the task card information, they have started their own Yangzhou "Adventure."

What I understand from the above:
Yangzhou is the 4th city visited. There will be 12 cities total
By the time they reach Yangzhou, only 8 teams remain.
They were in Yangzhou on May 7th (I assume local time)
Teams use Route Markers, and Task Cards
At around 9 AM (Seems like an hours of operation bunch to me) Teams reached "The Yang" (Not sure what that place is)
At 12:53 PM, teams raced to the Runyang Tower (Not sure) in the Zhenjiang district (Again, not sure)
Teams must make their way to the middle of a bridge to retrieve their next clue.

That's just the first half, more to come soon. If anyone can translate it better, feel free to do it.

so like in most of the foreign versions:
1st Leg: Non Elimination - 10 remain for leg 2.
2nd Leg: Elimination - 9 remain for leg 3.
3rd Leg: Elimination - 8 remain for leg 4.

Second half:

According to interviews, it is understood that part of the game Yangzhou stations including traditional painting, sculpture, and paper cutting, puppet shows, etc. Some local characteristics. Only by succeeding at the checkpoints can players get the next level of the task card. In an interview, the painter Tang Yu Tsutsumi said: "Learning is not a day of painting skill, but the acceptance that racers use their hands to guide their future appreciation of the Chinese painting pen. In this learning process, the players are enjoying themselves.

According to the Channel Shanghai career development director, the purpose of China Rush is to show the Chinese culture to foreigners, so the tasks are set when they are in pain (?) She said "To make players feel more urban culture, we integrate Yangzhou's most classic and most representative cultural links into the game, such as the paper-cutting art of Yangzhou, Yangzhou painting, calligraphy, lacquer, jade and so on. These are the essence of our culture in Yangzhou. Players participate for cultural experience, it will not be boring"

It is reported that the game finished today, on May 9, the crew will go to the Slim West Lake in Yangzhou, Song Clip City (?), lacquer plant, jade plant shoot. After the trip to Yangzhou, the fifth station crew (Producers?) will travel to Beijing to start a new round of the China Rush tour.

What I understand from the following:
-Once teams leave Yangzhou, they head to Beijing.
-There will be cultural tasks in Yangzhou, such as painting & calligraphy.
-The tasks are aimed to be fun, while the racers learn about the culture.
-On May 9th, teams headed elsewhere in Yangzhou. (Yesterday, I think.)

I find this press release abut yangzhou leg,it's the same as other one I post before. But it contains some contestant spoilers. We can know who are still remain according to their nationality.http://www.js.chinanews.com.cn/news/2010/0509/17215.html

来自澳大利亚、肯尼亚、印度、墨西哥、美国、加拿大等国家的八对真人秀选手7日抵中国历史文化名城扬州

It means Australian,Kenya,Indian,Mexico,Canadian still remain at least in yangzhou leg.

And by the picture in changzhouleg spoilers,I think we almost find who is the first team to be emilinated---Expat wives or Reality Veterans(other teams have comfirmed safe).

Some more notes that I've pulled from above:

Quote
It is understood that China Rush trip to Yangzhou in Yangzhou will be a 4-day shoot.

I think this means they will still be in the area tomorrow (11th May local time.)

Quote
-will be last month's shooting and, after a number of cities in China and eventually back to Shanghai World Expo site.
-ultimately back to the Shanghai World Expo site, the final winner will be World Travel Awards were.

Final Destination=Shanghai World Expo site???

Other than that, very much the same as the previous one (Apart from what Weihen has pointed out.) Thanks Weihen for the article!

Finally, the following places are mentioned in the article:

Quote
Spring City area, Dinosaur Park, Tianning Temple, Tian Ning pagoda, Qingfeng Park, comb plant, Changzhou Ma cake shop, Lemon street and other attractions and units

(1) the google translation for Lemon street seems wrong to me... the Chinese characters read as Lai Meng (which is NOT the same as lemon...)

(2) based on the earlier spoiler article for Changzhou (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,21744.msg522182.html#msg522182), the rock climbing takes place at Qingfeng park, the pic of them on a skateboard would be just outside Qingfeng park, and the pic with the green baskets of combs is at the comb factory (apparently Changzhou is famous for comb manufacturing)

I suspect that the article was just listing some of the famous spots in Changzhou, and that the teams probably went passsed them btu not do tasks at every single one of them....

This picture has me confused... Is the China Rush supposed to have exactly the same clues as The Amazing Race? I'm pretty sure the clue even says The Amazing Race on it.

It's about time they got somewhere. All this while they've been running in circles around an area the size of South Carolina...

(The producer in me would hit: Shanghai, Xian, Beijing, Harbin, Inner Mongolia for the Gobi, Gansu for the Silk Route, Lhasa, Sichuan for the pandas, Yunnan, Guilin, Hong Kong, Hangzhou. And Taiwan just to stir up some trouble.)

I see by Allen Wu's tweets they are somewhere where a Doubletree Hilton Hotel is... so.. Sanya- Yalong Bay ( blue water National Park) or Hefei ( archaeological finds) or Guiyang (ancient buildings, alpine city, temples) or Chongquing ( dazu rock carvings, fishing area- lots of air pollution-ick).
I think Sanya in Hainan- they need a break from those Mountains!
Anybody seen any new pics or sightings???

Nope.  In Brazil's first and only season, the first THREE teams out were men's teams -- two best friends, two boyfriends, and a father and son.  The remaining one made it to the F3, but came in second behind a women's team.

Allan's new pics confirm that at least his spots are in High-Definition, along with the starting line footage.

If the entire race is filmed in HD, then "TAR: China Rush" has the opportunity to set a new standard for visuals and cinematography for all TAR incarnations.

Thanks to Mrs Shrek:

The next stop on our China adventure was a city named Chengdu.  The major draw to this city for us was the fact that there is a Panda Breeding and Research Center there, and what trip to China would be complete without a panda encounter of some sort?  To get the most out of our panda experience, Holly and I signed up for their ‘International Internship’ program, which ended up being our favorite day in China.  For starters you get to go behind the scenes and meet the pandas.  We then went into the panda enclosures (with the pandas elsewhere) and cleaned up their bamboo scraps so they could be weighed.  Next, the pandas were moved from their cages to the enclosures.. and it was cage cleaning time! Yep.. we cleaned up panda poo… it was all in the name of good science though as the poo is collected and weighed and compared to the amount of food that was given / left over to get a good gauge as to how much the pandas were eating.  The one positive to the whole thing is that the pandas eat bamboo almost exclusively, so their poo doesn’t really stink that bad.  Holly about lost it once… but we were good after that.  In addition to the cleanup duties we also got to prepare their food AND feed it to them, and yes… we got to have our pictures made touching one.  That in and of itself made the whole thing worth it.  Randomly enough, while were at the Panda Breeding Center they were filming The Amazing Race ‘China Rush’ there!  How cool is that?

Sounds exciting!  :groan: no pictures?

Hey all, I was actually the one that wrote the www.thealbinobowler.com (http://www.thealbinobowler.com) blog referenced earlier in the thread.  My wife and I saw the Amazing Racers while at the Panda Breeding Center.  When we saw them it was apparently down to the final 3: Ultra-Marathoners, Momshells, and the Best Mates; and they arrived, completed the challenge, and left in that order... with a substantial distance between the Ultra-Marathoners and the Best Mates (as in hours).  Interestingly enough, they did not run the challenges in tandom (meaning all teams competing at the same time); each team waited for some time after the other one had completed.  It'll be interesting to see how it looks on TV though, as I'm sure for dramatic effect it will look a lot faster paced, and closer than it was in reality.

We did get our hands on one of the clues from the game (and saw the clue box), but the camera I took the pictures with unfortunately got left on one of the planes we traveled on.  :'(  We tried to take our picutres in front of the clue box but were quickly shooed away and told we couldn't take pictures.  I had to take the rest of the pictures covertly with my other camera... which is why they didn't turn out so well.  The crew was quick to get in your face and tell you not to take pictures.  Good thing I had a long zoom on the camera!  The 'Mates' actually walked right by us on one of the bridges and I told them they needed to hurry up so they didn't lose.  They totally ignored me though LOL I guess they had been trained to disregard all bystanders.

Here are some of the pictures we did manage to get with my other camera:

Post by: 67ssdan on July 24, 2010, 07:54:10 AM
Actually, after thinking about it some more and reviewing the pictures again and looking at the time stamps; I had the order wrong.  It was the Ultra-marathoners, the Best Mates, and then the Momshells... with the Momshells lagging significantly behind the Ultra-marathoners.

We got to the park just before 8, just before it was opening (we actually got in earlier than normal visitors because we were part of an "internship" program) and the Ultra-Marathoners were already there.  I overheard several people (park visitors) saying it was down to the final three, but judging by how tight-lipped all the crew was, this could have been just guesses on their part because we only saw three teams.  It is entirely possible that others were there later than the Momshells (the picture I snapped of the woman carrying the two backpacks was as we were leaving that section of the park and headed to another)and we just didn't see them, but  I am however doubtful that  there was actually people there before the Ultra-marathoners.  When we caught up with the crew, they were still plotting out where they wanted the teams to run and how they were going to get the next clue after they completed the challenge... so it seemed to me that they were on the first "run through" with the Ultra-marathoners.  We actually stood around and watched the camera guys shooting b-roll stuff that they use for filler as they're explaining the challenges.  That was kind of neat.  It was also fun to watch the filming process as the whole thing happens a lot slower than what you see on TV.  They had the girls sit down and read their clues, and then filmed them running around that area of the park.  Then they'd set the cameras down and sit around and then pick them back up again to start filming again.  So as a whole, the show is not nearly as spontaneous as it seems when you're watching it... but that's just part of the magic of television.

As for timeframes, as I mentioned the Ultra-marathoners were there when we got there and we stood around for probably 10 or 15 minutes watching them.  During that time the guys showed up.  We then went and did several hours worth of chores in the same cage area that the challenge was filmed and then broke around 11 or so for lunch and to go pet some of the pandas.  It was on our way out of that area that we ran into the Momshells.  We returned to that area around 1 or 1:30 to feed the pandas their afternoon snacks and by this time there was no one left with the flim crew.  So if there were infact other teams still in the game, they would have had to have come through while we were gone as we were there in that cage area for the rest of the day.  I guess they could have been EXTREMELY late though... who knows.

Since we were part of the internship program, we were allowed "behind the scenes" so to speak at the park... this is actually how we found the clue and were able to touch it.  One of the teams had accidentally left it behind inside the cage complex where the pandas are.  I will say this; the clue said that if they couldn't find a bus, they may have to find other forms of transportation to get them to their next destination... and that would be a bit tricky there as the breeding center is pretty well outside the main part of the city, and we didn't see any taxis or buses go by while we were near the road.  It was busy there... but we never saw any public transportation.  That should be entertaining to see how they get out of there.

No idea of if it was an elimination leg or not.  As I said, everyone that we ran into was extremely tight-lipped with the exception of the girl who stopped us from taking pictures with the clue box.  She was the one that told us the name of the show was China Rush and that it was infact part of the Amazing Race.  My wife and I have watched only the last few seasons of the Amazing Race and had no idea they had it in China.  The guide we were with had only read about it in magazines.

Anyways, I hope this helps.  We were totally geeked about being there when they were filming it.

Dan

Let the race begin! ‘Amazing Race: China Rush’ airs this weekend

Contrary to popular opinion, reality shows in China don’t begin and end at dating shows. “Amazing Race: China Rush”, starting August 8, throws adventure into the mix
6 August, 2010

Quote
On your recent travels around China, if you happened to notice a crowd of hectic foreigners chased by cameras, it was sadly probably not a celebrity tour group, but more likely part of the filming for International Channel Shanghai's (ICS) latest reality show, “The Amazing Race: China Rush.”

Competitors
Based on the international “Amazing Race” show format, “The Amazing Race: China Rush,” which debuts this Sunday, August 8 on ICS, features 10 teams racing through 11 Chinese cities with the franchise's last-one-out elimination system, and featuring physical challenges and extreme sports contests that audiences are used to seeing on Western reality shows.

I learned that Chinese people have an incredibly high tolerance level when it comes to foreigners behaving strangely ... the cab driver's watching all of this [taping] in his rear view mirror with a bemused look on his face that says, ‘laowai ... whatever.’
— Eric Ransdell, Fly Flims co-founder, director of "The Amazing Race: China Rush"Their prize for this China quest? A world tour provided by travelzen.com. Not too shabby.

Although some contestants were already living in China, three of the two-person teams came to the Middle Kingdom especially for the show.

Contestants were chosen from a variety of backgrounds and countries, from American middle-aged expatriate moms (Karen and Lisa) to Latvian reality TV stars, and countries including Australia, Kenya, India, Mexico, Latvia, the United States and Canada.

"It's such a motley crew, but they're going to make for great television," says Chinese-American host Allan Wu, who has hosted all three seasons of' “The Amazing Race Asia,” to China Daily.

The show’s director and Fly Films co-founder Eric Ransdell agrees, but says the people reflect the make-up of Shanghai and the Expo where the show began and ended. “[The Amazing Race: China Rush] was timed to be broadcast through the last half of Expo. We were cognizant in terms of casting that this was the Expo year in Shanghai and we wanted a truly international cast,” he explains.

“We recruited some teams from abroad, including a pair of Masai warriors that I had met a few years ago at a friend's safari camp in central Kenya. We also brought in a team from Latvia and a team from Australia, in addition to having teams from India, Mexico, Canada, the United States and the UK who were cast here in China.”

The team descriptions in Chinese are hilariously good/bad! Some direct translations:

Reality TV Veterans, 选秀狂人: Madmen of talent shows
Best Mates, 澳洲帅哥: Cute guys from Australia
Ultra-Marathoners, 暴走佳丽: Hiking (also translatable as "neurotic", or "furiously walking") pageant girls

I wish I was at my home. There, I get to watch Chinese channels (even though we're Filipinos, and can't understand a leak of Chinese. See note below) and I believe one channel there aired a commercial of TAR China. But now, I'm far from home, there's no TV here, and I'm school and bed-ridden. :groan: :'(

NOTE: Wonder how chinese channels are put into Filipino TV? Simple, our cable network (those who supply new channels) is so tricky, and instead of putting 72 channels of watchable and understandable shows, they put half of the 72 as Chinese, Indian, and Taiwanese Channels. :lol3:

New pics from Allan Wu!!

The day has finally arrived.  After spending countless days in preparation, production, and post-production, The Amazing Race China Rush will make its premiere telecast later this event at 8 PM on Channel ICS (International Channel Shanghai).  Even better, CCTV International (English channel) will be airing the show starting next Saturday night at 1115 PM worldwide so you can all still catch it if you have CCTV.

Since I will flag off the teams only a few hours later this evening, I’d like to share some of the production still we took during the first day of filming.  I remember the first day of the race was surprisingly frigidly cold, but everyone was a good sport about getting in position for my opening speech…

Of course, we cannot forget to line up the bags after I say “Go!” to the racers…

Our crane shots are a tricky beast.  But once you’re able to master it, the reward will be some nice “sweeping” shots…

It’s now time to see what the director sees…

All the teams are jumping out of their pants and ready to race so it’s now time to crouch down and assume the position…

And once I flag off all the teams, it’s time for me to start doing my diddy to explain what the the teams are getting themselves into!

Hope you enjoy the show!  Once I find out where we can watch it online, then I will let you know too!

'The Amazing Race: China Rush' prepares for launch this weekend across Chinese screens

The Screening of the 12-episode reality show-Hamilton‘The Amazing Race:China Rush'was held at the Shanghai Hilton Hotel. Xu Hao, the Assistant President of SMG, and the representatives from the International Channel Shanghai (ICS) participated in this event. Meanwhile, about 30 reporters from the media groups in Shanghai enjoyed the first episode of‘China Rush'at the same event.

Following the great success of the previous 12-episode reality show'Shanghai Rush'in 2009, the International Channel Shanghai (ICS) reveals Hamilton‘The Amazing Race:China Rush', another large-scale production which seizes the perfect time of Shanghai World Expo. Different from‘Shanghai Rush',‘China Rush'imported the program format of‘The Amazing Race', the seven-time Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program produced by Disney ABC. Extending the lens to Shanghai and 10 other towns,‘China Rush'unleashed a combination of different exotic cultures and traces of history, while showing an authentic Chinese version of‘The Amazing Race'to the audience.

"SMG maintains good cooperation with international media groups.‘China Rush’is another local produced TV program which enjoyed the fruits of success in attracting overseas market through its adaptation of classical program format from overseas with the mixture of local resources and Chinese elements,"Xu Hao, the Assistant President of SMG said.

The 20 chosen contestants are from different parts of the globe, including Australia, Kenya, India, Mexico, Latvia, the United States, England and Canada. Though some of them had never been to China before, they are of great interest in the country. The contestants form 10 teams and start off from the Shanghai Expo Park, traveled across Ningbo, Wuxi, Changzhou, Yangzhou, Beijing, Taian, Qingdao, Chengdu, Tengchong and Zhaoqing, then finally back to Shanghai. During the journey, contestants have to deal with language barriers, cultural differences and unfamiliar surroundings; withstand extreme physical and mental challenges including rappelling down a waterfall, canyon rafting and climbing up the dam. After multiple rounds of elimination, the final surviving team will receive the grand prize-a World Tour provided by Travelzen.com.

Hamilton, an international well-known brand from the Swatch Group, is the title sponsor of this season of‘China Rush'. It also provides the one and only official timer for The Race.

‘The Amazing Race:China Rush'will premiere 8 August on International Channel Shanghai (ICS). It will be aired for 12 consecutive weeks on every Sunday at 8pm. The show will also be globally broadcasted on CCTV News starting from 14 August, on every Saturday at 11:15pm. The Race is expected to attract more audience and become the greatest highlight on screen in 2010, the year of Shanghai World Expo.

some new spolier of contestants:
http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=856091558

I translated in English(just main points).
Molly left China with Paul and Fransic to come to Africa to do charities, she left her house for Rick and Josh.Rick and Josh now moved to Shanghai ,they liked China because of this game and they decided to start their new livies in China!

In fact, the first leg is an emilinated leg,but production don't want to emilinate Paul and Fransic early so they decided to change it to an non-emilinaterd leg.I don't know this would be good or bad :( .

But,still, the first team to be emilinated------Paul and Fransic(the post said they are first team to be emilinatd, but I am not sure the author means this or they come last in first leg)  .

Amazing China rush
By He Wei (China Daily)
Updated: 2010-08-29

Eleven cities and villages in five weeks is hardly a leisurely way for a pair of expatriate residents in Shanghai to see China. He Wei finds out what's the rush.

When Rachel Chen and Charlie Gale first came to China, they expected to stay long enough to enjoy traveling through the country at a leisurely pace. They certainly did not expect to have to rush through 11 places in just five weeks with no cellphone, limited money and a series of Mission Impossible tasks waiting for them. Nevertheless, they did. And thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

They were part of a team of 20 expatriates who gathered in Shanghai this April to take part in The Amazing Race: China Rush, produced by International Channel Shanghai (ICS).

ICS acquired the rights from Disney ABC International Television, owners of The Amazing Race, to produce a version of the reality show in China.

Chen says they signed up for the show out of pure curiosity.

"When I saw the advertisement on ICS, I thought, why can't it be me winning the final around-world trip prize? So I immediately called Charlie, and we decided to give it a try," Chen says.

Chen, 25, a Chinese-American, has a Chinese father and a grandmother living in Shanghai. Despite her Chinese heritage and Mandarin lessons at Fudan University in Shanghai, she admits she still doesn't know much about China, culturally or geographically.

Two years ago, Chen started Intern Asia to help foreign students in China. She said her busy job keeps her from traveling around but the show helped solve that.

She met Gale two years ago in Shanghai through a mutual friend. The 26-year-old American-Australian is also an entrepreneur and recently started a business with a friend designing and manufacturing electric products for the European, American and Australian markets.

Since the beginning, Chen and Gale have enjoyed their spontaneous adventures throughout the city, including go-karting, boating or dancing until dawn.

With their laidback yet adventurous personalities, the pair, calling themselves the "Flirtatious Friends", spent one lunch break completing their application video and submitted it just before the deadline. Luckily they were chosen to participate out of thousands of applicants.

Competing on the show was far from easy as teams had little money, 100 yuan ($15) to 800 yuan ($120), with which to tackle different challenges, including traveling through a remote village with no English speakers, clambering up a mountain on hand and foot and even eating a turtle.

Teams had to work well together and Chen says she was detail-oriented but Gale was prone to "get-going" without deliberating. Even though they had disputes along the way, they managed to cope by "merging diversities and trying to strike a balance."

Allan Wu, the Chinese-American host for the show, said teams usually have two approaches: some teams are completely unwilling to help others while some teams are more friendly and helpful.

"On the producers' side, we hope they will act more competitively, of course, but it is often moving to see contestants lend a helping hand," Wu says.

Chen and Gale chose the latter approach from the first episode, as the pair gave directions to competitors to help them get train tickets. They say they also made peanut-butter sandwiches for the rest and bought everybody beer to celebrate the completion of some tasks.

Gale says their generosity paid off when they ran out of money one day and another team helped them.

"Competition is only part of the race. We are here to enjoy the fun, not to just to get the medal," says Gale.

The most interesting but biggest obstacle was interacting with locals.

"At certain times, you have to entirely rely on others to help you out," Chen says. "But sometimes they simply don't understand you and you can get easily frustrated."

Both agreed their experience on the show was a fulfilling journey during which they got to know more about themselves and about China. And that the game totally changed their mentality on how to deal with people and how to spend money.

They were, above all, impressed with China's stunning scenery and every time they finished a task, they took time to stop and appreciate the beauty of the natural landscape.

Most challenges in the game were related to traditions, people and places in China. For the flirtatious friends, diversity is China's most charming aspect.

In this country, there are incredibly amazing forests, beaches, waterfalls, deserts and cosmopolitan cities such as Shanghai, they say.

And to appreciate it all better, both agreed they will have to work harder at learning Chinese.

They are going to work on that to get a deeper and more thorough understanding of China, but without the rush this time.

Runyang Bridge ,Yangzhou
(http://bbsdown2.zhulong.com/forum/OldAttach/2005/3/6/922260s.jpg)
looks like they will face a challenge climbing bridge.Sean and Amy...some drama.RB(I think)...eat something.
I think the one same height as Allan, and has that grey jacket is the greeter.
Pitstop is Yangzhou train station.

Nice weihen!

I think what goes up must come down from that bridge :snicker:
 rapelling? zipline? bungee?

And you are right about it being the greeter when I relook...is Allan wearing some kind of a fatique jacket that matches the greeter? ???

And I hate the gross eating tasks worse than any other...I see no point in forcing someone to get drunk OR eat and :barf

hmm, since qingdao is in leg 7, so we can assume that there will be a non-allanmination leg somemore leg 5,6 or 7

The report about Qingdao leg said there are 5 teams come to Qingdao.
So looks like Qingdao,Chengdu(1),Chengdu(2) are non-emilination leg.

I feel that every little spoiler counts because the smaller spoilers may lead to bigger spoilers.

Okay Some insight I have. I feel that the fried rice should be Yangzhou Fried rice, one of the most famous types in China. Wikipedia page bellow has the general ingredients. I don't think this will be a hard eating task but the sheer size of the portion  may be hard on some girls.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeung_Chow_fried_rice

As for the Team India, I think that they are doing paper cutting, which is a form of art that requires you to cut out designs. This may be a detour with the other detour choice the Calligraphy.

Little spoiler counts. Yeah. That's true. But obvious spoilers* lead nowhere.

*includes info that can be identified without even googling it.

Just to add, that may not be calligraphy. The calligraphy brushes are really pointy (in order to ensure the words come out right) and we can see the Aussie's is not as pointy.

Yes, you are right. In China we often have fried rice for lunch or dinner coz it is really easy to make and  quite delicious. And the most famous one is Yangzhou Fried rice. I don't think the taste may be a problem for those who have never eaten it, but actually the weight ----0.75 kilogram, is too much for many folks. Especially that the teams were in a competition and had to eat it  as soon as possible.

Hiking on the Great Wall is just the same as hiking up to a mountain, and in my opinion it is even more difficult coz the slope is very steep in many cases.
