Anyone have any info around the start date for TAR 16? I think the teams will be leaving in as little as 3 weeks, but don't have any credible intel...
-
If the application holds true filming Nov/Dec so take what you will from that.
:hithere: K2Review
-
My guess? Mid to late Nov, everyone home for the holidays....
-
It would be nice to get the official word that TAR has been renewed first, aside from BVM's Emmy words.
-
Agreed, would hate to see this put off till spring.
-
A couple of things to keep in mind,
First, the Winter Olympics are in February, so I think TAR 16 would not brgin airing before the final Sunday when the Olympics close in Vancouver. Second date to keep in mind is December 6. While its a projected date for TAR 15 to finish, it's based on how, with the exception of TAR 12, fall airings of TAR tend to finish on the third Sunday preceeding Christmas since CBS likes to have Survivor on the second Sunday prior to Christmas.
This would point to three spans of dates. A 21 day period ending just before December 6th, the period just after December 6th (which meand filming past Christmas and possibly New Year's), or after New Years since TAR wouldn't start airing until the latter half of February or early March, so it would finish airing in May.
-
The Olympics is a great point, it is always possible we could see a later start this time.
I am not entirely sure though that the finale date of TAR 15's airing would in any way affect the start date of TAR 16.... We all know Phil has missed TARcon's and check presentations before, due to filming.
Always assuming we are going to HAVE a spring season this time... although there is a buzz for a November filming.
I'm with puddin, we need an official confirmation before we get too excited.
-
Doesn't the 4/16/08 renewal for 15 episodes imply that a spring season has already been greenlighted?
-
Not necessarily.

Doesn't the 4/16/08 renewal for 15 episodes imply that a spring season has already been greenlighted?
I believe the April 16th announcement was in reference to TAR15 per Phil's tweet.

I hope it's soon! I wasn't around for all the TAR15 spoilers and want to see the TAR16 spoilers first hand!

Here are my predictions for TAR 16, assuming a 12 leg race:
- Two legs in Africa. Surely TPTB can't stray away from Africa for 4 consecutive seasons? Additionally, Europe/Asia can only have so many countries...
That being said,
- Two legs in West Europe (England, France, Spain, Portugal)
- Two legs in East/Central Europe.
- Two legs in India and/or Bangladesh
- One leg in Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, and/or Malaysia
- A TBC in China, Phillipines, or Korea
- Ends in Seattle

Sorry Peach! Though I would love to see a season of TAR run with the RFF crew as a whole. It would make for a great 10th anniversary season!
Back to TAR16 air dates:
the Winter Olympics are in February, so I think TAR 16 would not brgin airing before the final Sunday when the Olympics close in Vancouver
Yeah, I would imagine that it would be a safe route to pursue. OTOH, you've got the Closing Ceremony on February 28 (Opening is on a Friday, the 12 of that same month), but then the following week is the Academy Awards. That means the show would start on March 14 to best avoid all of the conflicts. Basically TPTB would have cram the season in so as to best have it end during May sweeps. In cramming, that would mean moving the Survivor finale to May 23 and having TAR16 run for 10 weeks, including a 2-hour episode somewhere in there.
Given that, and the fact that there may be some Country Music Awards show (or the like) on a Sunday somewhere in there, I think that they'll start immediately following the Superbowl. That way, they get the show going instead of starting it during all the other stuff. I would think it would be best to get two weeks in there; however, the Grammy awards air a week before the Superbowl.
This is the third time that TAR has aired a season during the Olympics, with TAR2 and TAR9 (or 4th if you count TAR5 and the 2004 Games). However, IIRC, the show was still midweek, sans the necessity to finish the season before the Survivor Finale and Live Reunion. Without Survivor being a conflict, Seasons 2 & 9 was able to surface after the Olympics.
With TAR on Sunday, it'll be interesting to see what happens with all the stuff going on. My guess is that between TAR and Survivor, based on everything we may we may not know, Survivor may get the post-Superbowl slot. Regardless, I hope we get a season this spring (as there are several options around this). FWIW, I hate to see the show pushed back, because if so, it might be a Sept-Dec run (instead of a summer run that would make more sense).
-
I would think CBS can take the hit ratings wise for three weekends that the Olympics are on. TAR is relatively cheap compared to a drama. And the ratings go back up when the Games are over.
-
Keep in mind that TAR,in general, is two episodes shorter with the fewer NELs than it was for the previous seasons that were aired during or after Olympics periods.
CBS has had a Survivor finale as late as, and even later than May 23rd. There's also the issue of losing one weekend in March to the NCAA Basketball tournament. But a start in March might avoid the Oscars, although some sports overruns due to basketball and golf are still likely.
One reason why I expect CBS will avoid the Olympics period is because of the location. Many events and finals can be aired live in primetime with no chance of people being spoiled with events timeshifted for prime time airing. I don't know how many hours NBC is planning, but with a dozen cable networks to play with plus almost all of their NBC affiliates now having 2 or more digital channels to program, I suspect it'll be wall-to-wall, even more than the games in Beijing, Salt Lake, or Athens.
-
How about TAR 16 starting in Whistler BC and premiering on Feb. 14th?
That way CBS gets to cash in on the Olympics hype from the other networks without paying for Olympic rights.
And - Whistler has been really promoting themselves ahead of the Olympics - look at Hells Kitchen this season - so you get promotional considerations - ie product placement.
-
I'll keep an eye in Vancouver here!
-
maybe they'll start in Seattle and hop the border into Vancouver?
but I think it'll be more likely that they use Vancouver in Season 17 *crosses fingers*
kinda like in Season 14, where they went a few months after the Summer Olympics in Beijing
instead of right around Olympics time like Season 16 will most likely be...
-
I wish that it would start filming soon and I hope that when it does we get a spoiled final three of three F/F teams. One of each major hair colour, red heads, blondes, and brunettes.
-
thanks to TheCinera, even more confirmation that TAR16 is a GO!
CBS Consumer Products announced that six TV shows will get video game treatment within the next year: "Survivor," "The Amazing Race," "Criminal Minds," "Diagnosis Murder," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Hollywood Squares."
"Diagnosis Murder" ... really? It's been off the air since 2001. Is this for retirement-home-based PC gamers, perhaps? Why not "Murder She Wrote" on Wii? Or an edition of "Rock Band" with "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman"?
There's been plenty of fine videogames based on movies ("Star Wars," "GoldenEye," "LOTR"...). But has their ever been a great one based off a TV show? I'm not saying their has not been. I just can't think of one and I'm honestly curious. Because it seems to me that since TV shows are less male-teen targeted and have less costly action than their more expensive Hollywood counterparts that the finances and creative would combine to inherently make it a low-end product. So why ever buy one?
Details from the release:
The Amazing Race (Ludia Inc.)
Get ready for around-the-world competition with the video game based on the eight-time Emmy® award-winning television series The Amazing Race where team players split up in pairs for a remarkable journey across exotic locations in a race against time. Players will face frantic challenges and tasks as they navigate through detours, roadblocks and other unpredictable game elements from the show. Working together strategically throughout the game is essential as each team tries to discover hidden clues that are crucial to getting them to the Pit Stop first -- and one step closer to ultimate victory at the check-in mat. This video game will be launched throughout North America across multiple platforms in tandem with the show's 16th season.

A TAR game? I wonder how they'll pull it off. *waits for the excitement from other posters*
:yess: TAR 16! 13 episodes / 2 hour premiere would be nice. And PLEASE go to Africa. ;D
-
If I were a betting person, I would come to the conclusion that AR16 should be finished before Christmas in order to be available to telecast in March through May after the Winter Olympics finish. So, let's work backward from there.
If the race finished on Dec. 23 and were 21 or 22 days long, it would be starting Dec. 1 or 2. That means that it should leave sometime in the next 4 weeks. Let's have a watch on where Phil is and is scheduled to be, as that is one of the few reliable indicators on when an Amazing Race could start.
-
I'm thinking filming would start either before November 15th, or soon after December 6th; otherwise early January (TAR 2; TAR 4).
-
When did TAR 7 wrap? I remember the Jamaica airport had Christmas decorations, and I thought it finished very close to Xmas!
-
YAY! Please let them return to Africa... <3
Though I think they'll revisit Costa Rica for the infamous coffee bean Roadblock :(

According to Wikipedia the filming dates for TAR 7 was November 20 to December 19th 2004. Other seasons filmed in that period include TAR 9 November 7th to December 3rd, 2005, TAR 11 (AS) November 20th to December 17th, 2006, and TAR 14, October 31st to November 21st, 2008.
With the exception of All-Stars, I believe all the others mentioned above completed filming before a TARcon for a season aired in the fall.

Start date speculation...
Again, I'm going to try to predict when they might start filming TAR 16 by analyzing past dates... eventually I'll get this right.
My guess makes a few assumptions:
TAR 16 premiers on February 14. Week after Superbowl - dissenting opinions welcome.
WRP needs an average of 109 days to edit. TAR 15 took 71 days - which accounts for the lousy editing job. Will the editors work over the Christmas holidays? I'll give them 79 days to edit.
(Note - the days to edit column is calculated from the start date to the air date. I should probably throw out the edit days for TAR 1 when calculating the average.)
Race will start on a Friday.
They probably won't race over Christmas holidays - but Hanukkah is fair game. Will they start on Thanksgiving or Black Friday? Maybe if the race doesn't start in the USA. :jam:
So my guess - Friday November 27 to start racing.

That's why they should start airing the race after Olympics. And start the race soon please! I need something to follow...life is so boring right now.
-
I'm not sure one can assume that editing goes on right up to the premiere date or beyond it for every season. And the amount of time needed varies with the number of episodes, the number of filming days and the number of legs. The more there is of any of these factors, the more editing time is required. I'm not sure that the amount of time needed to edit an 11- or 12-episode season is the same as a 13- or 14-episode season.
I for one think the premiere date will be later than February 14th, if for no other reason than it won't get the season finale into the May sweeps period. I think a 13-plus episode isn't going to happen.
In addition, I still think CBS will avoid placing TAR during the Winter Olympics. Many fall series are taking breaks from airing new episodes from before Christmas until March for that reason.
-
I agree with The Schnauzers. It would be foolish for CBS to go against the 2010 Winter Olympics. This is the first time in decades not including 2002 (Salt Lake City) that the Olympics are going to be mostly live in U.S. time zones since Whistler is in the Pacific time zone. The biggest ratings for Olympics are in the early evening through about 11pm. So CBS is going to try to compete against that. I don't think so. I think the start date for telecasts of AR16 will be March 7.
On a related note. NBC is televising these Olympics so I expect Zach Behr, AR3 winner, will be there working for NBC.

Well, since 2002.

IIRC, TAR 2 began airing after the end of the Salt Lake Winter Olympics.
-
I would be so happy if the race started somewhere OTHER than freakin' California for a change. I understand the rationale of keeping costs down, but the dork in me loves to see varying cities. Loved seeing TAR9 start and end at Red Rocks in CO, as well as the southward direction of the final leg in TAR5 (Canada south to Texas).
I'm still hoping (and praying) for the day that the race starts and/or ends in St. Louis. A few years back, I posted a thread here at RFF about scenarios where St. Louis could be used for start or end city. If you'd like to read it, please go here: http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,8717.0.html (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,8717.0.html)

Here comes another lurker who loves the site. A Whistler stop would make sense given the Olympics and there is already a lot of snow, though it officially doesn't open until November 26. I think it would be more likely at the end of the race since they love the long flight opening the show and a southern route after the current race would seem to fit.

My editing time assumes that editing starts the day the first leg is filmed and continues to the premier premiere date. Its the minimum amount of time they have to edit the first episode.
When is May sweeps? The last 2 weeks of May?
The Oscars are on March 7 - so that date is probably out too - which takes us to March 14 which probably fits better with the final finale being at the end of May - assuming a 12 week season.
So all that gives us is more edit time - I still don't think they'll be racing over the Christmas season...
-
Sometimes during Olympic-years, Nielsen will adjust the May ratings sweeps period, but that has been rare.
I do think we'll see a late February premiere date for TAR 16, running into mid-late May.
-
:welcome: to RFF Seattlite!!
-
HELLOOOOOOOOO Seattlite!! :waves: :welcome3:
-
Welcome
And I agree a Whistler stop (especially at an early stage closest to the air time of the Olympics) would be wise, plus its been several years since we have been to Canada. And its never been a early stop.
-
That's true. Calgary was a next to last stop before Dallas and the finish line.
Canada is a great supporter of the Race and should be rewarded as such.
-
The Oscars are on March 7 - so that date is probably out too - which takes us to March 14 which probably fits better with the final finale being at the end of May - assuming a 12 week season.
A couple other things to keep in mind: They're going to have Survivor finish up sometime in May, so that takes away one weekend in May (or two, if they don't want to have anything wrapping up the day before Memorial Day). Then there's the ACM's; although the date hasn't been announced yet, having that air on Sunday is a possibility. If so, it'll fall right inside the period after the Oscars and before Memorial Day Weekend.
-
Survivor finale is almost always AFTER ours...
-
Two-hour premiere March 14? :jam:
-
Some things about dates to keep in mind in trying to out-reason CBS on TAR 16.
The Winter Olympics end Sunday, February 28th.
The first and second rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament starts March 18-21. Question is whether CBS can get the tournament to avoid scheduling the final round 2 games to interfere with the Sunday primetime schedule in the east and central time zones. SOme years it has and other years it hasn't. Two of the first/second round cities are Spokane and San Jose.
Mother's Day in 2010 is May 9th; and Memorial Day is May 31st.
And keep in mind that Survivor 20 is a Tenth Anniversary All Star edition, so CBS will want to milk that for all its worth schedule-wise. I would expect that finale to be later than Mother's Day since its so early in May in 2010.
But this is a challenging puzzle isn't it, trying to get all these pieces to fit within what we know?
-
I had an interest in tracking the May holidays, so I looked them up. May 9 is indeed Mother's Day. It is only two days earlier than average, as Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May, which means it must fall from May 8 to May 14.
Memrorial Day used to be fixed on May 30 whatever day of the week that was, but some years back the U.S. went to a system of 3-days weekends with Memorial Day being the final Monday of May. That means it now falls from May 25 to May 31.
What does that mean for Amazing Race 16 scheduling? I believe it will start on March 7, meaning there will be 4 episodes telecast in March. Each year there are delays from the NCAA tournament running late, but that is not really different than what happens with football delays. I just expect that they will happen. April will have 4 episodes. May will have at least 3 and maybe 4. That still leaves May 23 for the Survivor finale. As I have demonstrated, it can fit. Starting any later is problematical, as that would push Survivor to May 30 or later. It is also possible that there would be at least one double episode of AR16. We'll have to wait for the CBS schedule before that would become clear.
-
Premiering TAR 16 against the Oscars? Bad idea imo.
Three Rivers will be gone from the schedule by then (maybe Flashpoint will air in its place). Still going with the two-hour premiere, and maybe a two-hour finale. :jam:
-
After looking again at the filming data that walkingpneumonia provided, I think it is important to note they have never been out filming over Christmas. I would think every family member of the crew would want to kill them. There was only one time it filmed in January (season 2) and this is possible since it will probably premier later.
I would put my money on tradition and a start very soon. The biggest clue would be anyone going missing (anyone know any astronauts, pro wrestlers or beauty queens who were supposed to be over for Thanksgiving?)
As to where they start from, how about the Kodak Theater? It's in LA, they could premier it the night of the Academy Awards and poach some viewers from ABC and it's much prettier then a recent large drainage ditch.
-
If Bert pllans to have TAR 16 filmed and in the can before December 6th, then filming will have to start by this weekend. (Do the math.)
So I think folks should have their antennas up, just in case.

Where does the Dec. 6th date come from? If they are filming in December I would guess that tptb would want to be done by Dec. 22nd.
I don't think Phil or anybody else needs to be in NY for the finale...
-
Why would Phil be in NYC for the finale of 15?
-
I don't know specifics but from what I have heard it will be filming by the very end of November (def. by beginning of December) and will finish up just before Christmas (around the 20th I'd guess). Will post more details if I find out.
-
With one exception (for the filming of the All-Stars TAR 11) Phil has always been in NYC to present the winner's check on the Monday morning following the airing of the finale. He hasn't always been at TARcon, but he has been on the Early Show.

Twitter from Phil -
Just completed the Source to the Sea http://www.sourcetosea.co.nz/ excellent event, got back to Westport where my family is from 22.5mph ave about 4 hours ago from web
Apparently he finished 6th in solo riders - but the important thing to note is that Phil was in NZ on Nov. 14th - so the race isn't starting today or tomorrow - unless it starts in NZ. :duno: ;D
-
Westport, Auckland. Not far from me (Yay!). Just throwin that out there

You're from the valley too? There's not much to see here though...a Presidio start would be nice though.

Heading out for the holidays tomorrow and will have my camera ready. Hope somebody gets a clue soon and posts it quickly.

November is ending by the next few days... do we have new updates for our beloved race? ;D

Yes, filming definitely starts in the next few days. Possibly Saturday the 28th (going by last season starting on a Saturday). Crew is leaving like now. Yesterday and today. They get back just before Christmas so if you give them a day or two after the Race ends, the Race probably finishes about the 20th of December. That puts the start date around the 28-30 of November.
Everyone be on the lookout. Maybe someone can check for filming requests like last time??
-
YAY!!!
However, I struggle with my show of excitement here, LOL
-
I want to say TAR 16 starts filming next Monday (after all the Thanksgiving travel has subsided).
-
Keep in mind that with the 3-week filming cycle that now used, the filming could begin as late as December 10th, and still be completed by New Years.
We haven't heard an official word from CBS to greenlight season 16, and it sure is confusing as to why that might be. I suspect CBS is still fiddling with the spring schedule, especially for May, with Memorial Day weekend being May 29-31.
-
This gets me really excited, but I have barely even been keeping up with TAR 15!
:hearts: :jumpy:
-
I am still doubting that TAR would deliberately have the filming go over the holidays, they never have yet (except one near call, that was an accident). These cameraguys and Production people have families too.
But sounds as though it will be sooner anyway!

Snooky, :naughty:
-
Starting this weekend is what would be best if we want a season that is longer than 11 legs, because I doubt they will film during Christmas. And I sincerely hope that we will once again have 12 legs.
-
They will be back before Christmas.
-
:yess: Thank you!!
-
I'll keep an eye on Vancouver here, fingers crossed :) Even though the Olympics are near, the racers still may come before the Olympics starts.

Can't wait for the first word that they are off. Any film permits around LA popping up?

OMG YES!!!!   :yess: :yess: :yess: :yess:
THE TAR CHASING IS BACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yess: :yess: :yess: :yess:
Last season, they came close enough to asia! After 13 seasons they are bound to return back to the country where they have a HUGE fanbase!!!
Looking out for TAR all the way from SINGAPORE.
It's great that we have a forum like this! We have spies almost EVERYWHERE around the world!! (Hong KONG, Australia, China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Canada... did i miss out any country?!?!!)
Hahahahaha!! I'm so excited!! I'm guessing it should really be starting within these few days or by the end of next week?! Probably before December if it's a 22 days race and ending before Christmas!

Uhm, Philippines...? LOL
<3
Yay, it's TAR Chasing time, but I do hope we just get the right amount of spoilers this time, and not as frantic as TAR15 though... :-[ ;D
ETA: I thought you were autowil at first! LOL
And yeah, the Philippines has a pretty big fanbase as well... by some miracle, I do hope they perform a switchback here.
-
And in Norway:) I prefer not to read spoilers (except where they are going), but I`m willing to help if they do come here once more.
-
Uh-oh polarbear...look out!! We are all about the spoilers here! :)
-
I might stay away from spoilers this season. Watch it without knowing the places/outcome. Meaning, no Wikipedia visits for that time being. :funny:
-
Meaning no RFF visits either.
Don't do it!!
:'( :'( :'( :'(

LOL. There's still the TAR 16 Discussion threads, the foreign editions board, the TAR games & the AI forum for me. :funny:

as far as I know, nothing happened at the Shark Tank (HP Pavilion), except a very horrible hockey game (:;) (:;)
I post this because that would probably be one of the best locations to have a TAR start (i would  if they had teams trying to cross the ice for the starting run). But it has own very big parking lot, an airport that's not too far away, but also a train that gets them right by SFO, for a different start. And the roads in San Jose can be a bit confusing if you haven't been here before, which = TAR epicness! :hearts:

My ox is broken and the amazing bowling moms "did em' in" RB were epic and could be back for a second time highly likely...

^^I still blame the taxis of Manila for their loss. If they had just found a taxi before Brandon/Nicole, we'd probably have one of Brandon/Nicole & Colin/Christie losing. Manila taxis are always annoying in that sense. :funny: And I expect the deletion of this post due to offtopicness. :funny:

And yet so true!

wonder if the odds of them coming back to Estonia second season in a row are one to million or even less :groan: let's hope this season we have also nice pic material coming in... excitingggg
-
Everyone needs to be VERY vigilant from here on out. Airports especially the next few days.....
-
Wow, I can't wait until filming starts for TAR16! I'll look out in Sydney, Australia if there is any TAR activity over here!
*Fingers crossed for Africa and Armenia! South America too!* We need a Southern Hemisphere Edition, like TAR2!
Also, what's this I hear about a VIDEO GAME!!! For an addict like myself, this is the perfect thing! :yess:
-
There is a video game thread somewhere...
Y'all pay attention out there!!
time to stat Twitter watching too...
-

You've got Twitter, guys. It can't be too hard to find out where they're starting :neener:
-
Will be traveling thru Heathrow on my way home Monday and will keep my eyes open. I think they will head to Europe or somewhere south on the first long leg.
-
i'll cry if they go to Guayaquil THIS season! :'( :'(
just wait to go there until TAR 17 and go in mid July
-
I have a question. How many days are the racers sequestered until the first day of filming?
-
I think its a week Will? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
TAR 15 started on the 18th but Tiffany was still Tweeting on the 13th. I don't know if she was given special permission though?
Couple days into filming & I'm having a blast, lovin' the cast & crew but remembering how long filming days can be. Love being back on set!10:15 PM Jul 13th from web
-
I believe it is normally five... will double check.
-
I think we've heard seven if the start is not in L.A., but five would make sense in L.A., since less planning is needed for pre-race briefings, interviews, photos, etc.
-
I am checking but I agree that 5-7 is pretty common.

We were sequestered for a week before the Race started on Halloween. Hardest week ever! They wouldn't tell us when the Race will start!

Thanks, Luke! Do you think they have started filming TAR16 yet? Seems that everybody thinks it's any day now.

Thanks Luke! I hope you and mom are having a wonderful Holiday :hearts:
