Title: American Idol 8 Final 2 Discussion
Post by: Jobby on May 19, 2009, 07:35:48 PM
And.. we're down to the final 2! Discuss.

Adam will win because he's been a season favourite all along. But this has also been shown last season that the season favourite may not necessarily win the audience votes because judges fave does not equate to audience love.

Kris will win because he's been a steadfast, worthy and consistent soulful performer since top 12 and garnering more and more votes throughout the entire season. But does this means that his votes will be able to overtake those of Adam Lambert's crazy fans?

We'll find out...

After 2 songs, it's been an Adam night for me, but they have one more song to sing. We'll see!

It's too close to call for me. Whether it is is Adam or Kris, we have 4 hours to vote.

Either way, they are both winners.

I'm having a hard time voting.  :( I get about 5 busy signals for every vote.. How about the rest of you? I'm voting for Adam.. (Sorry Kris people.)  :hugs:

I had to find another phone to use, I ran the battery down on my first one dialing for 2 hours.

According to a facebook voting application.. which has correctly shown Danny, Allison, Matt as the lowest vote receiver on the respective rounds they were eliminated.. (and Lil, Scott, Megan, Alexis were also at the bottom except Anoop)

Here are the results FOR NOW -

Kris Allen
86,581 (62.49%) votes
7,142 (61.65%) users

Adam Lambert
51,978 (37.51%) votes
4,442 (38.35%) users

Seriously.. Kris's popularity is.. shocking.

It is shocking that Kris would be higher than Adam! Dial Idol has crashed, but the last time I got it to connect, Kris was at 65.55 and Adam at 64.33

I am just now beginning to be able to get through for Adam consistently. Maybe the kids are in bed. (But I bet Tory and Pledge are voting as fast as they can for Kris!)   ;)

Another website measuring AI votes crashed too. And i still can't believe that Kris still has a shot at winning.. who would have thought???? :hearts:

I sure didn't think it would be this close. I'm just now with less than 1/2 an hour to go beginning to be able to get through without hitting a busy signal.

I wonder how it is for the Kris voters.. Hey! You could stop voting and tell us. }:>

The most amazing thing of all is.. Kris didn't even have that much of a coverage as compared to the other finalist in the top 13 during auditions and here he is in the top 2..

How did he made it sooooo far? God's amazing plan huh? :funny:

ROUND #1

Adam did Mad World and Kris did Ain't No Sunshine.
Adam sang the song extremely well, but Kris was the one who really gave me chills!

KRIS WINS! (Simon agreeees!)

ROUND #2

Adam performs A Change Is Gonna Come and Kris performs What's Going On.

For me, Adam's song choice was weird. I don't know why.. i think i expected him to sing some melo tragedies song to boost up the mood and atmosphere of the place with his voice. But he sang it GREAT.

And Kris.. light-hearted, extremely well sang.. BUT, it definitely wasn't appropriate for a night like this.. and not his fault fully because Simon Fuller chose the song..

Second round IMO, was a tie because both songs were weird choices IMO. But if i have to choose.. ADAM wins!!

DONG DONG, third round up next!

ROUND #3

No Boundaries, what are your takes? People said it was sucky, but i actually thought i really liked it and it was really a very good and nice song to hear.

Adam's rendition was very dramatic and although he sang the song well, there was no feelings within.
Kris's rendition should have been ONE KEY lower, and he would have NAILED the song and won the night.

And it's true, the song sounded WAYYYYY better on Kris. I believe America can hear that and it's without a doubt that even though it was not a stunning finale performance by both artist.. but just based on the last song, i believe that since it sounded better on Kris.. it would propel Kris for a win.

With that, i'm making my prediction that Kris Allen would win just base on the last song. He went off pitch 4 times, but the song definitely sounded so much better than Adam's one. And i could see him make a hit out of the song.. like Inside Your Heaven, This Is My Now, I Believe and A Moment Like This!
Title: Re: American Idol 8 Final 2 Discussion
Post by: TexasLady on May 20, 2009, 07:23:28 AM
I predicted it would be close.. but I never thought it would be this close. Every other year that I can remember, Dial Idol has predicted the winner using the green button. "Not predicted to be voted off."  This year they have Kris leading but still in danger of losing because of the margin of error.

About the third song. I didn't care for it much. I thought it didn't suit Adam's voice or style. It was better suited for Kris and for the most part, he sang it well.

It was a GREAT finale!

Four Reasons Kris Allen Could Win American Idol

Will Simon Cowell and the odds-makers be proved right — will the next Idol be Adam Lambert, the dazzling glam-rock prince? Or does Kris Allen, the guy with the acoustic guitar, square jaw and plaid shirts, have a chance of upsetting the race? Can Smallville beat Vegas?

Tuesday night’s performance finale seemed to clinch Adam’s victory, but Kris could win, for at least four reasons.

1. The Johnny Depp Analogy: Look, Johnny Depp is a huge, glamorous, risk-taking star, but off camera doesn’t he look like someone you could scare with a sock puppet? Something like this comes into play with Kris. Simon has faulted him for not having star swagger, something Adam exudes with every flash of his smile and swivel of his hips. But what may seem like modesty on a live stage can project to the viewing audience as a different kind of charisma — cool, even. Just because Adam rules the stage doesn’t mean he rules the camera.

2. The Kara Principle: It drives me crazy when Kara talks about artistic growth and development, as if she were a tenured lecturer at the pop academy — but why deny that Kris has improved, quite a lot, and that this is key to the competition? His folk-pop approach is not only melodic but surprisingly versatile, as when he won over the judges with his acoustic version of Kayne West’s “Heartless.” Adam is absolutely the better performer, but the whole competition seems too consistently easy for him. It’s like Apollo coming down to Athens and competing in a few Olympic events without breaking a sweat. It’s not that Adam is smug or proud — he’s entirely likable — but there doesn’t seem to be any need for him to have bothered even auditioning. He’s right where he started: perfect. Kris has discovered himself. That’s important.

3. Progressive Lambert Fatigue: The blasting falsetto, the strutting, the fussy layers of costume — it’s exhausting! If I had to listen to an entire album of Adam on my iPod, my head would explode in an unpleasant David Cronenberg manner. Even when he tones things down (as on his outstanding, stock-still performance of “Mad World”), you feel the air being sucked out of the room. Adam is terrific, but he’s like one of Seinfeld’s close talkers — he’s a close singer.

4. The Danny Gokey Transference Theory: Ryan last week said that little more than a million votes separated Adam and Kris, raising speculation that this might not be the sort of lopsided finale as last year’s, when David Cook crushed David “Oliver Twist” Archuleta. The hunch is that Danny voters could swing to Kris — a migration of sentiment from underdog to underdog.

I'm not sure how many votes I actually made, it was about 10 busy to every 1 that got through. Plus I had things to do so missed at least an hour of voting. I did vote once for Kris. LOL  (If I'm evil and he wins, I guess I could say I voted for the winner.) }:>   It was really bad until after 11 Central time where I could vote and get an answer. (About 3 going through then a series of busy calls.) It didn't really get better till about 11:30 and by that time I was going downhill fast. I should have paid more attention to your method Tory.

I am praying Kris wins!

I am also one of those who doesn't like to see Adam descend from his pedestal into a competition he is clearly too good for. If Kris wins it would truly be a competition that's all about finding hiddent talent...and with Adam performing in theater beforehand, and being consistently strong the entire way, it just doesn't seem to be as much of that "finding hidden talent" idea as it would be with a Kris win.

this was a realy great season. i loved when kris sang with keith ubern , and hen danny sang with lional. and the bikini girl thing was soo funny, kara was great. i di not like the kiss part realy thoses guys need to take off the make up and grow up all ready, they might relize they can't sing jmo.. the queen part was so much more classy bc adam and kris did all the sining and it was so much better than i have heard freddie singing lately, and rod stewart on of my sister favs of all time looked like he was unstable, webiles wobble but they don't fall down, maby it was jet lag or an ener ear infection. i was waiting for him ro fall, and yes i have seen him in concert severl time and he moves a lot but in a controled way. love maggy may, and rod is in his 60's with a lot of drug and achole buse to his credit.
i did cry when kris was huging his wife at the end he looked like he was holding on for dear life and her too, they re the cutest couple her in that awsome yellow dress what an angel.

yea i am so glade kris won!!! also felicia barton up date she was on the news last night our locol fox news, she was realy glade kris won and said a few things great about the contestants and was going to say more this morning but i for got to dvr it.. :groan: i was hopeing to find out what she was up to..
i also saw randy j  sign to adam the ok sign with his hands right after the winner was anounced so i am sure randy has plans for adam..

Wow! Shall start from the performances, seeing that I watched everything on the same day.

Round 1 - Favourite Performance
Adam did sound more theatrical than usual, and it would be tough for him to outdo a performance which even Cowell gave a standing ovation for. Of course his performance was still great, but I liked his entrance more. The whole thing was a little too dramatic. Really loved Kris' performance, it was even better than what he did a couple of weeks ago. My hair stood hearing him do that song, it was so heartfelt and sincere.
Kris wins!

Round 2 - Simon Fuller's Choice
Adam did fantastic, IMO. I loved his control of the whole song, loved his range as usual and he really looked like a star up there. Kris' performance was very laid-back, as what Simon and Randy called it, too relaxed for an atmosphere like this. But I'm not too against that, after all, that's the kind of songs that defines him. It's just not him to make grand entrances like Adam does.
Adam wins!

Round 3 - No Boundaries
I actually really like the song, the melody is great. But my criticism is that it's not suitable for these guys. I thought Adam's delivery was only alright. I liked the front part of his performance but towards the chorus, it was so pitchy. However, I thought that Kris' was worse. But it's not his fault, they key was really too high and he was struggling throughout I actually felt uncomfortable. I'd have preferred Adam's A LITTLE better, but I'd call this round a tie.

Before the results were announced, I had this feeling that Kris would win, and he did. But on the whole, I'd consider it surprising cos after all, Adam has been the hot favourite since day one, has performanced astonishingly well since day one, and whose fans are crazy. Kris is indeed a dark horse from day one, never been expected to make the finals, and then making it all the way to the FINAL TWO and NOW HE WON! While I'd have preferred Adam to hold the title, I'm very happy with the finale on the whole. Kris is such a nice and humble guy, I really like him. And like what Simon said, two incredible people, two incredibly nice people. Adam will still be extremely popular, and Kris will just keep getting better. Can't wait for their albums to be released now, and I'm really sad that this season's over. It's indeed the BEST. SEASON. YET.

Great job everyone!

Kris Allen & Adam Lambert React to Idol Shocker

It wasn’t long ago that Kris Allen was living a quiet life with his wife in Conway, Ark., planning on going back to college. But that was then.

After upsetting Adam Lambert in the most surprising turn of events in Idol finale history, winner Allen is pinching himself.

“I’m shocked,” the 23-year-old told PEOPLE after the show. “I feel great, but I’m just shocked.”

His brother Daniel, who Kris credits with making him audition for the show, put it a different way. After Kris’s name was announced, the stunned look on his face “was the same look he had when he got his first car!” he said.

With Daniel, his wife, and other family members proudly looking on, the season 8 champ thanked his home state for “rallying behind me,” he said.

He also thanked his competition: “Adam deserved this just as much as I do. He’s an amazing performer, a gifted guy — an amazing guy.”

Ever a good sport, Adam, who’d been heavily favored to win throughout the season, offered kind words for the victor. “Kris is my bud,” he told PEOPLE. “He’s such a good guy, so humble, and he’s super talented. I’m really happy for him.”

As for his own unique style — which often involved heavy-eyeliner, “lots of hair dye, a blow-dryer and a flat-iron” — Adam said, “I’m a little bit different, and people enjoyed it, and that feels amazing. It feels really cool to be able to challenge people’s concepts of what is an American Idol.”

Also cool: “Getting to sing with Queen and Kiss on stage tonight,” he said, “That, to me, was winning.”

Kris! Adam! Simon! Randy! David! Ryan! Kara! American Idol's Morning-After Roundtable

No boundaries? Not for newly crowned American Idol Kris Allen. Or even Adam Lambert, despite (or, depending on who you ask, because of) his second-place finish in last night's finale.

While neither winner nor runner-up seemed as thrilled or outraged as their respective fan bases over America's choice of a new Idol, the emotional floodgates inched open this morning. The final two, along with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi and last year's winner David Cook, opened up about the show's outcome, the ever-sappy winner's single and, yes, the Danny Factor to Ryan Seacrest—who let loose with what's sure to be a controversial opinion of his own.

"I was numb, I was totally numb, I had no idea what to feel," Allen told Seacrest on his radio show this morning. "Adam deserves this as much as I do. It was crazy, I never thought this would happen."

It seems the winner's incredulity didn't stop when the cameras did. Neither did the mutual lovefest between Allen and his one-time Idol roommate.

"I told him, I was like, 'You deserve this,' and he was like, 'No, you deserve this.' We love each other, man. We've been friends ever since the Top 36, we were in group two together, and we both made it. I'm really proud of him, and I know that he's really proud of me as well."

And while Allen said he wants "definitely to do the pop singer-songwriter thing" with his career, it will take some time for his reality coronation to sink in. He said he has "not at all" processed his win.

Failing to process right along with him is the angry Adam faction—of which, it should be noted, Lambert himself is not one.

"I couldn't be happier for Kris," the glam rocker said. "I really, really mean that. He's one of the most open-minded, embracing of all types of people person…He's just an old soul.

"I really was prepared for anything to happen. I knew it was such a tight race between the three of us—Danny [Gokey], him and I—and I just kinda was prepared, you know."

Plus, as Paula Abdul would and no doubt has said, Lambert is already a winner.

"You know, the whole thing for me in this competition is that it wasn't a competition. It was like a platform every week, an opportunity for me to get up and do my thing for everybody. It was fun, and it wasn't about, Oh, I'm gonna beat this guy or beat that girl, it was about, Oh, I get to stay on another week to do another thing."

As for whether his outsize image or refusal to address rumors of his sexuality played a part in his losing, Lambert said he was "a little worried about it" before his audition, but said he was fortunate that fans were quick to embrace him.

"I think there's always other things in the works, you know. It's about music, but it's also the personality of the artist, about how the artist looks, how the artist dresses, it's about all of it, it's a package deal."

As for how the Idol journey has changed Lambert, he says one small tweak has taken place.

"My dad thinks I'm cooler than I was beforehand."

Meanwhile, the question on everyone's mind and blog this morning is whether or not the best man won. For the PC-savvy Idol minds, the answer was yes.

Or rather, "yes, but…"

"I have to say I wasn't surprised, and I don't mean that with any disrespect to Adam," relinquished Idol titleholder Cook said. "I don't know that either one of them would have surprised me. I don't think it's the end for either one."

That covers best man. But what about best singer?

"I don't know. Singing is an aesthetic thing for me, it kind of depends on what you like. They're both great performers."

Count on Cowell to give a more straightforward answer.

"[Kris was] probably the right win in terms of being a nice guy. Was he the best singer in the competition? No.

"If you allow America to vote, you live with the vote. I wouldn't have said he was the best singer in the competition, though. I think he was like a little puppy dog."

He didn't have quite as kind words about the winner's single, however, which happened to be cowritten by fellow judge DioGuardi.

"By the way, how awful was that song, though?" he said of "No Boundaries."

"'Mountains, hurricanes, rivers, oceans…it's probably the most clichéd song I've ever heard in my life."

Fellow judge Randy Jackson agreed.

"Let's not talk about the song, Ryan. My mom said if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything."

For the defense…

"It's a song about dreams and attaining the impossible and what these kids go through to get this far is extraordinary," DioGuardi said, turning the conversation back to the boys.

"I think that they both won. For me, this was a very interesting year, because you had such different artists. You had the soft side of rock and the hard side of rock, and it really wasn't about winning, it's about, what's your preference?"

Still, she does think there was a deciding factor to the competition and it had nothing to do with Allen or Lambert.

"I think that the Danny vote probably swung the competition," she said. "If you were a Danny fan, you probably aligned more with Kris' music."

Jackson agreed.

"Listen, I wasn't shocked, because I was also thinking Danny and Kris were kind of close in who their voters were. I think that's really what happened."

Asked where she sees the second-place artist fitting into the music scene, DioGuardi believes he has potential to follow in the successful footsteps of another Idol also-ran.

"You know, when I watched him with KISS, I almost thought, this guy could front a ridiculous rock band à la Daughtry—when you know it's Daughtry, but it's a band. He's such an incredible frontman. This is his thing, to be able to reach thousands and thousands of people in an arena-like setting. He has the voice for that. He's also learned how to pull it back and come from his heart."

Jackson, too, sees nothing but big things coming for Lambert, describing him as "Robert Pattinson from Twilight meets My Chemical Romance meets Guns 'N Roses."

"I actually think it's better for him that he came in second."

Oh, and about Seacrest's controversial weigh-in...put on the spot by Cowell (who else?) as to where he would rank Allen in the annals of American Idol winners, the host didn't exactly place him near the top.

"Probably in the middle," Seacrest said.

Falling below him? "Justin, Kelly," he presumably joked, before clarifying, "That year, that year. Who's won the show? I can't remember."

Also falling prey to Seacrest's discerning ear: "Ruben. Taylor Hicks."

Ouch.

I seriously hope Kris WILL produce a darn good album. Seriously, he could really be the first successful male idol winner with his looks, voice and versatility. I think if all is right and nothing goes wrong, he might actually sell as much albums as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, because this season has received the most amount of coverage and what he needs to do right now is to produce an album QUICK and soon enough before the IDOL fever dies down and start making an impression.

What a shocking ending to American Idol 8, with finalists like Adam, Danny and even Lil.. i bet no one expected KRIS ALLEN the underdog to win. I would say this proves the theory that "ANYONE CAN WIN AMERICAN IDOL".. and not just the darn good singers only!

I'm thinking people might say Kris does not deserve it.. but i definitely don't think so! I think he will be a very good recording artist and i can't wait for his first album!! ANYONE HERE WITH ME??

Rock on KRIS!

Although totally predictable that they would be part of the show, I loved seeing Norman Gentle, Tatiana and The Bikini Girl again to receive their Golden Idol awards.   :yess:

Norman Gentle: "Outstanding Male"
Norman Gentle, always hilarious, wins the "Outstanding Male" Golden Idol award. I'm not sure who was funnier, Norman or Ryan wearing Norman's glasses and hair band.

Katrina Darrell, The Bikini Girl:
"Best Attitude" award. I give it up for "The Bikini Girl." She's has an amazing body. I wasn't particularly watching her and all of a sudden the singing got better.. Opps! It's Kara singing and The Bikini Girl, Katrina looked PO'd. (Put Out!)  I would have thought she'd love a duet with Kara. :funny:  Dueling bikinis!

Tatiana: "Outstanding Female"
Snort... Did they practice chasing her all over the stage while she evaded the producer and security guard or was it unscripted. I don't know but I thought it was funny.

Joab, you are in good company here, lots of people love Kris.

Kris Allen Credits His Wife with His Success

Behind every great man, there is a great woman. Such is the case of the latest American Idol winner Kris Allen.

Admitting during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, set to air on May 26, that he was “shocked every week” during competition, he says it was his wife who kept him going.

“I’ve been singing for a long time I started playing guitar when I was 13 and I’m 23 now,” he tells the talk show host. “I did the music scene in Arkansas, which isn’t that big … and It didn’t work out and I almost gave up.”

But, he continues, “My wife has been the support. I seriously almost gave up a lot, and she was just like you have to keep going. She believed in me more than I believed in myself. She is just great.”

Of Simon Cowell’s declaration Allen “shouldn’t of played the wife card so early,” DeGeneres disagrees. She tells Allen, “I thought it was great and you seem like an adorable couple and I think it’s important for people to see that you have a wife and how supportive she was.”

It was an issue that never crossed Allen’s mind. “I care about her a lot so it didn’t bother me that she was brought up,” he says. “I think it bothered her more than it bothered me.”

“She is responsible for you getting this far,” DeGeneres prods. “I think you owe her something big.”

Allen’s idea: “Vacation, how about that?”

DeGeneres, meanwhile, also calls runner-up Adam Lambert Friday to talk about the finale. “The way people were talking and the way you reacted when his name was called, it was like you were his dad,” she says. “You were so genuinely happy for him they way you kind of grabbed his shoulders and hugged him and I thought you were so gracious.”

“Thank you. I was really mentally prepared to have whatever happen, happen,” responds Lambert, adding, “He was shocked. I had to shake him a little bit.”

And ever the gracious competitor, Lambert says of Allen, “I’m a huge fan.”

This is interesting!

Exclusive: Queen’s Brian May Addresses Adam Lambert Rumors
5/22/09, 5:25 pm EST

After Adam Lambert’s killer performance with Queen on Wednesday night’s season finale of American Idol, rumors flew that he had already been offered a job singing with the band. That’s slightly premature, according to the band’s guitarist, Brian May. “Amongst all that furor, there wasn’t really a quiet moment to talk,” May tells Rolling Stone in an e-mail interview. “But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.”

May, whose band recently ended a four-year-long partnership with singer Paul Rodgers, is comfortable with Idol as a launching point for the careers of rock singers. “You’d have to define ‘legitimate’ first,” he writes. “The long-term answer has to be that, if you have enough talent and enough will to succeed, you will get there by whatever route presents itself. Once you have scaled the castle walls, with the sword in your hand, it matters little
how you got there. I’ve not always been positive about shows like this, but there is no doubt that it offers a door to some real genuine talent along the way.”

“Both those boys are well worthy of big success,” May continues, in regard to Lambert and Idol winner Kris Allen. “So it’s pointless for someone like me to stand on the sidelines jeering. I’m confident Adam will make great use of this wonderful opportunity. I hope I’m there to see it.”

I think the best moment of the night was when Kara appeared and KO-ed Bikini girl. It was extremely shocking, hilarious and sweet.. especially she's doing it for charity.. and it also showed us how talented she is.. even Simon gave her a standing ovation lol!

Tatiana was hilarious, and kudos to her for acting up to the producers and continued singing and singing.. we knew she was just acting, after all the act she has put up a demure front on American Idol during the Top 36 round.

I just can say.. this season is darn weird. I have no idea how come Allison never managed to pick up votes, no idea how Kris made the Top 13 (if he didn't advance to the final 13 through 3rd highest vote getter, i don't believe the judges will pick him as a wild card) and i also have no idea how Kris even won.

And that makes American Idol unpredictable and fun to watch! :funny:

I seriously love No Boundaries by Kris Allen.. and i have no idea why so much critisms were given to the song.. when the tune is really really good! Anyone heard the studio version?? >> HIGHLIGHT You can ask me for the song i guess.. <<

'American Idol''s Adam Lambert: 'It Wasn't About the Title'

Adam Lambert was considered by many to be the "American Idol" frontrunner this season, so the fact that he finished second to Kris Allen came as a surprise to many, but it is not a problem for the 27-year-old from San Diego, CA.

"I know it sounds cliché, but I really feel that I won by getting to the finals," he says. "To me, it wasn't about the title. It was the experience. I was able to use 'American Idol' as a platform, and now, I have a career. So, there is no need to dwell on the negative. We should look forward and be excited about an album and the rest of my career."

Prior to auditioning for "American Idol," Adam was in Los Angeles performing in the cast of Wicked, he had a band, and he had begun writing music. But he didn't get "discovered."

"I might not have gone through the proper channels," he tells ET. "The concept of being discovered is a dying art. I don't think anybody gets discovered anymore. I think you have to put yourself out there. I was getting to the point where I was ready to submit music to labels, and, then, this opportunity came along and I jumped at it. I think things happen when they are supposed to."

Adam is hoping that because he was able to show his versatility as a singer on "American Idol," that he will be able to continue that process on his album.

"My view of the record industry is that it is a little too specific," he says. "The labels try to put one box around every artist and keep them in one genre. We don't have to go about it that way. Obviously, we want the album to have a cohesive sound, but I think it can have different styles with me at the center of it."

As for the negative comments that some of his performances were too theatrical, Adam dismisses them, saying with a laugh, "I never really listen to what people say. My favorite artists are artists that are theatrical. Obviously, when you are doing a recording, things aren't going to translate as over the top. A live performance takes on a different life. I really enjoy the recording process, and it is going to represent itself differently. Anybody who bought an iTunes version of what I did on the show can see how I sound in a recorded session vs. life. It is different. A live performance takes it to a different level."

Don't miss Adam when the "American Idol" tour comes to a city near you, beginning July 5.

The New 'American Idol' Interview with Kris Allen

Despite winning the season eight "American Idol" title, Kris Allen remains modest about earning enough votes to put him in the same category as such musical successes as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and David Cook.

"I feel like Adam deserved it as much as I did," he says just two days after the finale. "Adam was the most consistent person all year. He was seriously one of the most gifted performers I have ever met. He is a great guy. We told each other that day, 'You deserve it.' I think it could have gone either way and America would definitely not have got it wrong."

Kris has already cashed in on his new-found fame, immediately filming an "I'm Going to Disneyland" spot. Next up for the 23-year-old from Conway, AR, is the "American Idol" summer tour and his album.

"For me, I felt like I did exactly what I wanted to do on the show and that I would want to do on a record ... maybe stray a little bit," he says. "When I did 'Ain't No Sunshine,' that is what I want to do, stuff that has that feel. [Music that] moves people. I do write my own music, but I don't know if we will be able to use any of that stuff on the first CD."

The new "American Idol" says he has been writing songs for about six years or so, despite his initial resistance, because he thought it would be "too hard."

"It is the way I express how I feel. I am not a man of many words or very expressive or emotional, but it comes out in my music. That is who I am. I don't know how great I am at it. But the more you do that, especially when you start collaborating with people you get better," he explains.

Kris is a newlywed, married eight months to his long-time girlfriend Katy, who he says believes in him and will stand by him through all that is yet to come as a result of his win.

"For me, I have been getting ready for this all my life," he says. "I have done a lot of things in my life and I been in a lot of places. Life gets you ready for what is going to happen next. This is everything coming into a culmination of everything I have been through. I don't even know. I think everything is going to be great."

Don't miss Kris when the "American Idol" tour comes to a city near you, beginning July 5.

I guess both guys will do really well with their albums. Both of them are really good-looking, incredibly talented, and extremely popular. Can't wait for both of them to release their albums!

And yes, this season's been pretty interesting. Powerhouse singers like Lil never able to find herself back after her first performance, and Kris even making the top 13. He's definitely not the best singer, but he's got to be one of the nicest, humblest, most original and likeable contestants. I'll say the same for Adam, never failing to impress week after week, and I really think he's a very nice guy. So it's indeed one of the best finales for me. Not to mention the entire finale was rather amusing, with all that drama during the Idol Awards, and some awesome performances. Hoping that the next season will see even greater talent, and that a girl will win next time!

It's 4 girl winners and 4 guys winners now. As compared to Singapore where all the singing competitions were won by guys because of the crazy female fans who would throw in countless amount of votes for the male contestants. Males are more reserve here and tend not to vote as crazily as the girls.. lol. And each vote cost around $0.50 USD as well.. i think American Idol charges the votes as standard text rates right?

9 out of 9 of the prominent singing competitions here have been won by males. :res:

In other words, none of the females won before.. and they were better as compared to the males. Some of them even won the judges votes (doesn't count), but the male still win. It's pretty turn off and sad because Singapore has such a small population here and the votes only amount to maybe 1 or 2 million in total. :res:

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Idol Winner Kris Allen

After shocking almost everyone — including himself — by winning the season 8 of American Idol last week, Kris Allen told reporters, “I’m not a man of many words.” We noticed! PEOPLE caught up with Idol’s dark horse from Conway, Ark., Saturday, and finally got him talking. Here’s what we learned:

1. He Drives a Clunker: Before leaving Arkansas for Los Angeles, Allen, 23, drove a silver 2001 Pontiac Bonneville. “It’s the most comfortable car to drive,” he says, “but it has a lot of problems. The speedometer doesn’t work; the gas gauge doesn’t work; the windows won’t roll down; there’s something wrong with the gas pedal. But it drives!” Allen admits he couldn’t afford the $300 to fix the fuel gauge — and got stranded as a result. “I’ve ran out of gas a lot,” he says. “Probably four of five times.” Hopefully, those days are over. On the finale, viewers saw season 7 winner David Cook hand Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert the keys to a 2009 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

2. He Married His Best Friend: “She’s been my best friend for a long time,” Allen says of his wife, Katy, who he began dating his junior year of high school. “She’s the coolest chick in the world.”

3. He Said ‘I Do’ In Front of 400 Guests: Allen married his high school sweetheart, Katy O’Connell, on Sept. 26th 2008. “We have a lot of family and friends, and we didn’t want to leave anybody out,” Allen says of his wedding, which took place at sunset on the Arkansas River. “We set out 300 chairs and people were standing up!” At the reception, which was catered by Katy’s grandmother, Allen sang the same song that he auditioned with: “A Song For You.” “We just had a blast,” he says of the day.

4. He’s Got a Sweet Tooth — And Loves Lazy Days: Guilty pleasures? He has a few. “I love Twizzlers,” Allen says, adding, “I love any kind of candy. My favorite TV show ever is Boy Meets World, and my favorite movie is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. For me, my guilty pleasure is that if I don’t want to do anything one day, I won’t. I’ll just sit around, not shower, hardly even eat, and just watch TV.”

5. He Really is Friends with Adam Lambert: “Right before we went to bed [at the Idol mansion,] we’d sit around and talk about the competition, talk about our pasts. We really got to know each other,” he says. “He’s very real. He says exactly how he feels.” Allen explains the two didn’t feel like they were competing against each other. “We both had a lot of confidence in ourselves, and we said, we can’t compare.”

Adam Lambert on His Sexuality: 'Keep Speculating'

Adam Lambert says role models come in a variety of different forms – even in eye makeup, fingernail polish and tight pants.

"It's a really, really cool thing," the American Idol runner-up says, "to be able to show people that you can be yourself, and you should be proud of yourself, and you should own who you are and what you're about, and never make apologies for it."

So to those who speculate about his sexuality, he has a message. "Calm down," he says, and "keep speculating."

Lambert, 27, who finished second to Kris Allen in the show that ended May 20, says his comfort with himself can serve as an example. "It feels really amazing to be able to try and pass that on to kids and young adults who don't have a role model like that," he says. "It feels great because I never had a role model like that."

"Conforming is not cool," he adds. "Embracing who you are and what makes you different is actually what's really cool ... The kids that are different and out there and expressive and are bold with those choices, those are the people that grow up to be people we all want to hang out with, that become celebrities or become really successful in what they do because they believe in who they are."

As for all the talk about his personal life, Lambert says just one word when asked if he'll address his sexuality directly, say in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone: "Maybe."

The two have a combined nine debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, but it is Kris who is ahead with his recording of "No Boundries" at No. 11 and his recording of "Heartless" at No. 16.

Adam's rendition of "Mad World" comes in at No. 19 on the chart, putting the song -- originally performed by Tears for Fears -- on the Hot 100 for the first time.

'American Idol' Kris Allen Celebrates at Walt Disney World

click on link below to view video

One of the first things that Kris Allen, the new "American Idol," did after winning the title was look into a TV camera and shout, "I'm going to Disney World!"

This week, he made good on his promise, joining Mickey Mouse for a victory parade and serenading Mickey's gal pal, Minnie, prior to joining a gala celebration at the theme park's "American Idol Experience" attraction.

"It feels good, but it hasn't completely sunk in yet," Kris told the audience.

Thousands of fans turned out for Kris' celebratory day, as did his wife, Katy.

By starring in the Disney commercial, Kris joins a line-up of superstar professional athletes and heroes who have shouted the famous "I'm Going to Disney World" line. He is the second singer ever -- the first was last year's "American idol" David Cook -- to star in the Disney commercial in its 23-year history.

"The American Idol Experience" at Walt Disney World Resort -- which had its grand opening this past February 2009 -- is the first major theme park attraction in the world based on the hit TV series.

5 Things to Know About Adam Lambert's Pal Drake LaBry

Since becoming American Idol's runner-up on May 20, Adam Lambert has been stepping out with a friend whom many Lambert fans recognize from the show. His name is Drake LaBry and a source tells PEOPLE, "He's been Adam's best friend and totally there with him through this whole [Idol] process." Several times he sat with Lambert's parents in the audience during the show.

Here are five things to know about Drake LaBry:

1. He's a Southern Gentleman
Despite being spotted partying at West Hollywood nightclubs like Guys & Dolls and shopping at Kitson, LaBry comes from Louisiana and has a Cajun accent to prove it. In fact, he still lives there – at least for now. "He comes to L.A. a lot and may end up moving here," a source tells PEOPLE.

2. He's an Artistic Type
LaBry is an interior designer and a painter, but "he is super normal and down-to-earth," the source says.

3. He's Been Inked
A source says he has two tattoos – birds, to be exact – on his chest.

4. He's No Fair-Weather Friend
LaBry and Lambert have been pals for years. "He has never experienced anything like this – the paparazzi or attention," the source says of LaBry and his sudden fame-by-association. "It's very shocking to him."

5. He's Got the Travel Bug
LaBry's backpacking trip with friends through France, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Spain was documented in a series of YouTube clips that include footage of him swimming, waiting for a train, watching Shetland ponies and dancing to his iPod in the Swiss Alps.

Kris Allen Calls Adam Lambert & Drake LaBry a 'Cool Combination'

Although he's encouraged people to keep speculating about his sexuality, Adam Lambert now says, "all your questions will be answered" in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone.

"Finally," he said at the 11th Annual Young Hollywood Awards Sunday in Santa Monica, where he was named artist of the year. "Once and for all" he'll speak directly about the topic.

But the winner of American Idol, Kris Allen, 23, is already speaking out in support of his good friend and runner-up, praising Lambert for his openness.

"I think he's happier that he can be himself and it's nice," Allen says of Lambert, 27, stepping out with his friend Drake LaBry. "Adam is who he is and he's not afraid. I support him in whatever he does."

Allen, back in Los Angeles Sunday to sing the national anthem at game 2 of the Lakers-Magic NBA championship series, says that he has met LaBry, and, "he's a really nice guy."

Allen calls Lambert and LaBry's friendship a "cool combination," because they're so different. "Drake's from Louisiana and Adam is from L.A.," he says. "But they click well and they're really nice together."

Enjoying the Spotlight
Meanwhile, Allen looked relaxed an hour before singing the national anthem, which he executed to perfection, drawing a huge ovation from the Staples Center crowd, which included Rihanna, Diddy, Simon Baker and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Allen's wife Katherine joined him at the game, which the Lakers won, and she has been with him for the past couple of weeks. "[Winning Idol] has completely changed our lives," Allen says. "She is happy to be here and supporting me and she is just as excited as I am."

And the couple have even more good news to share, as Allen has officially inked a record deal with 19 Recordings and Jive Records.

"I'm really looking forward to what is next," Allen said in a statement about the deal. "I'm very grateful to be working with Simon Fuller and his team at 19 Entertainment, along with Barry Weiss and Jive Records on my debut album. Everyone's been asking me what it's going to sound like. It will be very similar to what you heard from me on the show – definitely in the pop/rock genre. I can't wait to get started!"

With his debut album due in the fall, Allen – along with Lambert and the rest of season 8's top 10 – is gearing up for the Idols Live Tour, which opens July 5 in Portland, Ore.

But Allen says his wife won't be following him on the road. "She's going to come to a couple of shows," he says, "but then she is going to go home and hang out with friends and family."

Adam Lambert Finally Confirms: "I'm Gay"

Adam Lambert finally confirms his sexuality in the new issue of Rolling Stone (on stands tomorrow).

"I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay," the American Idol runner-up says.

"I'm proud of my sexuality," continues the rocker, who was photographed holding hands with interior designer Drake LaBry earlier this month. "I embrace it. It's just another part of me."

But Lambert, 27, from San Diego -- who performed Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" on the Idol finale -- says he's not the poster boy for gay rights.

"I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader," he tells RS contributor Vanessa Grigoriadis.

Lambert admits that he was nervous about coming out while Idol was still on the air because contestants are under a media embargo, and he wanted to do it on his "own terms." (He also says producers were open to him handling it however he wanted to.)

"I was worried that [coming out] would be so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing," Lambert tells the mag. "I'm an entertainer, and who I am and what I do in my personal life is a separate thing. it shouldn't matter. Except it does. It's really confusing."

Find out what an Idol stylist has to say about Lambert's look.

Lambert credits the FOX reality show with helping him gain self confidence.

"I finally checked into my self-worth for the first time in my life, and the fact that it coincided with Idol is so sweet," he says. "I mean, I still have moments where I think, 'Oh, my skin is terrible, and I'm a little fat -- I should really go to the gym more.' But for the most part, when I look in the mirror now, I finally see somebody who can do something cool."

For more details on which Idol Lambert is attracted to, how he came out to his family, and what was going through his head when those photos of him in drag hit the web mid-season, pick up the newest issue of Rolling Stone, on stands Wednesday.

Kris Allen 'Flattered' by Adam Lambert's Crush

In his Rolling Stone cover story, American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert admitted he'd been crushing on his roommate in the Idol mansion, Kris Allen.

"I was like, 'Oh, s---, they put me with the cute guy ... Distracting!" Lambert told the magazine. "He's the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show ... totally my type – except that he has a wife."

Allen's response? "I'm flattered," the Idol winner tells PEOPLE exclusively, "And think it's hilarious."

The duo will have plenty of time to laugh over their missed chance at bromance this summer: Allen, Lambert and the other eight finalists from the show's top ten will hit the road on a 52-date tour starting July 5 in Portland, Ore.

Baby No. 3 on the Way for Bo Bice

There will be two American Idol debuts to look forward to in January – the premiere of Season 9 and a new arrival from alum Bo Bice!

The season four contestant announced wife Caroline's pregnancy on Friday evening at a fan club gathering in Nashville.

"American Idol has a new winner each year – seems things are the same in our house," Bice, 33, tells PEOPLE. "Can't wait to introduce our new little 'Idol' to the world January 31st!"

The latest addition will be the third child for Bice and his wife, who are also parents to sons Caleb James, 9 months, and Aidan Michael, 3 ½. The couple have been married four years.

On tour throughout the summer, the rocker will open for Lynyrd Skynyrd in August.

Adam Lambert & Kris Allen: They Want to Record Together!

For the next three months or so, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen will be spending a lot of time with each other crisscrossing the country on the American Idol tour.

It's no wonder that the two say we shouldn't be surprised if, in the end, they decide to record a song together.

"It could happen," Lambert told me yesterday during my exclusive sitdown with him and Allen. "Maybe we'll write a song on the road."

Allen smiled, "We have to figure it out, but yeah, we should do it."

No surprise, but the American Idol winner and runner-up have become as tight as any two best friends could be. So, just how close are they?

They both laugh when I ask Allen if Lambert is his "closest gay."

"As much time as we spend together, I would probably say so," Allen said.

And it works both ways. "He's definitely becoming my closest straight," Lambert said. "That's something I am trying to get across—that it doesn't frickin' matter. Just like when people were dealing with race relations. The moment we started getting over it as a society was the moment we stopped paying attention to the differences and paid attention to the similarities.

He continued, "People get so scared and uncomfortable with the ways in which they are different. I think it's a testament to Kris that he's completely comfortable in his own skin, comfortable with his sexuality. He's a straight man, he's married, and it's not threatening for him to be friends with a gay guy."

Or as the more reserved Allen put it, "That's what's wrong with the world. Why can't everyone just get along?"

As talkative as Lambert is, he remains pretty much tight-lipped on matters of the heart.

"I do not have a boyfriend," he said when I ask about the much-speculated-about relationship he has with interior designer and artist Drake LaBry. "I know everybody wants to know but that is the one area that I kind of want to keep out of the press: my personal love life, especially out of respect to the other person."

But then, a few minutes later, Lambert looked at me and said, "OK, let me set the record straight with you on the boyfriend thing—Yes, Drake and I are dating. You can say that."

Now back to show business. Is Lambert itching to get back to acting like he did in his pre-Idol theater days?

Not exactly.

"I think I'm a little bit over it because I spent so much time as a kid in theater," he said. "I had my love affair with musical theater and now I'm like, ‘Give me something edgier, give me something a littler grittier, a little bit sexier and not so safe.' "

Mr. Allen, on the other hand, wants absolutely nothing to do with acting. "I don't think so, man," he said. "I don't think anyone would ask me to. I did those Ford commercials and it was hell."

(The 50-city American Idol summer tour kicks off July 5 in Portland, Ore.)

Season 8 winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert were on hand at a press day in Los Angeles on Thursday to talk about the Idols Live Tour, which kicks off in Portland, Ore., on July 5, and will take the top 10 — which also includes Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre — to 50 cities in North America. PEOPLE spoke separately with Allen and Lambert about their upcoming albums, the tour and how their life has changed. – Jed Dreben

Kris Allen
Are you moving or planning on staying in Conway, Ark.?
My wife is going to move back home for the tour, so we still have to have a place to live, and still have our apartment. But things have changed completely. Four months ago, I could have never imagined ever doing anything like this. I don’t get much sleep now but there’s a lot of work to be done writing for the album and … rehearsals, as well. It’s nonstop but I’d rather be doing this than anything else.

How is the recording process coming along?
It feels great! It feels great to know that you’ve wanted to do this thing your whole life and to know that you have an album coming out in the fall that you’ve worked hard on that is you.

Can you tell us anything specific about the album — how many tracks, guest appearances?
None of that stuff I know yet. I don’t know if we’re going to have any collaborations and I have no idea how many tracks, but I think the CD is going to be great, I really do. A lot of good songs.

Do you think people will be surprised with your sound?
I actually do think people are going to be surprised, but in a good way, hopefully.

What’s been the hardest thing about recording?
It’s a lot of work. For me, I felt like the songs would come easier writing-wise and collaborating with people. It’s just a process and you kind of have to get used to it and we’re very, very new to this and you’re kind of just thrown into, “Hey, you’re going make a CD in four months. And You’re going to be on tour for three of those months.” … We are music industry virgins, but I feel like we had the best experience and you kind of learn a lot from Idol, and you got to work hard.

What are you taking on tour with you for those long bus rides?
If I got my iPod and my phone, I am perfect because you can talk to people and then you can listen to great music, which I like to do.

Are there any songs you’re excited to perform?
I think they let us say one. I’m really excited to perform “Hey Jude” by The Beatles just because it’s such a great song.

Adam Lambert
How is the album coming along?
I am so excited! I think it’s going to come out in November. We haven’t found a title yet. And I’m working with RedOne — he’s an incredible producer who did Lady Gaga’s hit material. I’m working with Linda Perry, with Greg Wells, with Ryan Tedder, Sam Sparrow — amazing writers and producers. And I’m getting to co-write. I wrote a song with Kara Dioguardi from the show. It’s awesome.

What will the vibe of your album be?
It’s really about finding the sound that I want to communicate my ideas to people. On Idol, you’re doing cover music that’s tried and true material. I went the route of doing a lot of classic rock because I knew that that was the more vocal and it was songs that everybody connected with. In creating new material, I want to do something modern that will stand the test of time, and something that’s new. I’m being careful not to stay stuck in that sound, because it could end up being dated. So, I’m going to try to take the best musically from that era and make it mix with modern pop electronic production. It should be really different.

What’s been the reaction since you came out on the cover of Rolling Stone?
The response that I’ve felt is mostly positive support, so I think that’s great. It’s a testament to us really trying to become a bit more progressive and focus on what really matters which is that I’m an entertainer and a singer and that’s what it really needs to be about. My private life really has nothing to do with my ability to entertain.

How will you pass the time on a crowded tour bus?
Definitely iPod. You know, escape in music is the best way to kind of be in your own little world. Books as well, I’ll probably grab some books.

Any specific artists you’ll have on rotation?
I’m such a music junky. I have everything all the time. You name it, I’ve downloaded it.

What would you put on your concert rider?
We’re not quite at the level right now where we get our own rider for this tour. I don’t know. I would love to have a masseuse on sight — that would be cool.

Any cities you’re especially excited for?
Connecting with people that are in different cities across the country is going to be really cool. I’m excited for the L.A. show. Obviously, I’ve lived here for eight years so this is my home base now. And then my hometown, San Diego, where I grew up.

What else are you excited for?
I’m looking forward to banking that paycheck. I’m not going to lie, I mean, that’s not my first priority, but, you know, I think for all of us, having gone through experience, to be able to walk away with some financial security in these tough times is really nice.
