PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil: Five teams flew from Phuket to Bangkok, Thailand. Teams karaoke'd with the locals. Mark/Michael and Kisha/Jen both made costly mistakes (bags). Margie showed off her mechanical skill at the Roadblock, then took charge at the Detour. Their third 1st place finish. Mark/Michael continued to break rules of the Race (paying taxi bill w/personal items), earning a 4 hour penalty, but were spared elimination. A Speed Bump awaits. Tonight, the Race heats up. Jen and Luke face off. "Bitch!" "Wow!" "She called him a bitch!" "It was a bitch move!" "BITH!"
-
Margie gonna play Mama Tiger and put the smack down on people messing with her boy! (:;)
-
:waves: puddin my dear
-
To those of you in Asia watching on AXN, no spoilage. Tasers are on standby. :taze :taze :taze
-
TAR is making up times again!
-
Hair salon!
-
Guangzhou connection to Guilin. That's fun. My dad's done that.
Jaime is already on the loose. Look out taxi drivers!
-
hmmmmmmmmmmm :yess:
-
...
-
Everyone getting on the Guangzhou flight thus far.
-
Phil: This is Bangkok, Thailand. A vast system of canals and rivers, the Venice of the east. Palace, the 8th pitstop in a Race around the world.
Margie/Luke, CLUE, 9:36 am. Make your way to Guilin, China.
Teams fly over 1000 miles. Travel to the Quin Xiu Lu, hair salon for the next clue.
Luke conf: Being in country where they don't speak English has been an eye opener.
Margie: We need to get to a travel agent first.
Woman: Depart Guangzhou 8:00.
First flight out of Thailand, 11:20 am - About an hour.
Margie: None of the other teams can make the 11:20!!
Jaime/Cara, 10:30 am, CLUE.
-
8:30 p.m. flight delayed.
-
Kisha & Jen get to Guilin first.
-
Tammy has nice pronunciation of Mandarin.
-
Tammy/Vic, 10:40.
Vic: China! I TOLD YOU! China!
Tammy: We've actually been there before!
Next flight is 1:15, Jaime/Cara get that one.
They take a connection leaving from somewhere, 8:30 pm.
They don't think anyone else can make their flights.
KQ!
YAY!!! Kenya Airways flies between Bangkok and China!
They also get the 8:30 conne ction through Guangzhou.
Kisha/Jen, 12:30 pm -ish.
Conf / FORESHADOWING: Jen, "If somebody gets in my way I'll knock 'em over!"
Their connection to Guilin will be 9:10 pm.
Teams progressively later, and later, until ...
Mark/Michael, 4:08 pm.
They probably can't make anythhing that'll get 'em there the same day as the rest.
But they'll try.
-
Meanwhile, in Guangzhou, a FLIGHT DELAY EQUALIZES Margie/Luke and Tammy/Vic.
Jen/Kisha also appear in the airport, although their plane leaves after the other two.
Basically 3 teams in same airport in same half-hour span of time.
Kisha/Jen actually get to Guilin in 1st! It's late, though, pushing 11 or 12 at night I think.
-
Tammy & Victor have the home language advantage, but their taxi driver does not know where to go.
-
Tammy yammers away to the cabbie in Mandarin.
Margie conf: Luke would like to go where all the people are deaf, so he would have an advantage!
Jaime/Cara all the way down to 4th.
MORNING.
Kisha/Jen head for the hair salon, in 1st.
They stop for directions.
But right behind them is the Tammy/Vic cab.
They think their cab driver knows where it is.
But he doesn't.
Jaime/Cara get there first.
ROUTE INFO: Travel to the #24 bridge on the banks of the Li River for next clue.
Tammy/Vic arrive in 2nd soon after them.
-
First blowout coming.
-
Jen initiated that one IMO!
-
Luke says Jen pushed him.
Jen says Luke elbowed her.
It's a wash there.
-
No one thought to check flight delays thru guangzhou...? darn
-
I think it was just two people trying to get there at the same time....
-
Jaime/Cara play it safe and follow Tammy/Vic's cab to the Bridge.
Mark/Michael just landed.
"Very optimistic."
Margie/Luke and Kisha/Jen taxis are getting directions together.
Kisha: We don't trust them. They've given us wrong directions before.
Margie conf: Luke's competitiveness is a surprise to me! I've never seen him this competitive before!
There it is ... the cluebox.
Margie/Luke run.
Kisha/Jen walk right past the cluebox.
So does Luke.
They see it simultaneously.
CHARGE!
COLLISION!
Jen: Bitch!
Luke conf: She pushed me!
Jen conf: He body checked me with an elbow, a bitch move.
Kisha: He elbowed her twice!
Margie to Luke: She called you a bitch!
Luke conf: Good thing I'm deaf. If I had heard her call me a bitch, it would have been ON!
COMMERCIAL.
-
Pretty amazing that they both walk around the clue box before finding it.
-
Luke is ready get it on. Margie says don't.
-
Comorant fishing!
-
RB
-
Second blowout.
-
Margie/Luke and Kisha/Jen leave the joust in 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Kisha: Bad sportsmanship on their part. We're definitely u-turning them now. Game on, bitches.
Tammy/Vic, CLUE: ROADBLOCK.
Phil: One member takes part in Guilin's fishing industry. Take a raft to the middle of the river. Train a cormorant to fish 10 times for the next clue.
Tammy will do it.
Jaime/Cara arrive in 2nd.
-
Jen trashtalking about Luke.
-
Mark & Mike must wash hair for their speed bump
-
Mark/Michael finally in a cab.
Luke signs, Jen is behind us now!
The cabs are neck and neck.
ANOTHER FOOTRACE!
ANOTHER COLLISION!
JEN GOES FLYING!
Jen conf: He carried me into the footrace.
Kisha runs into the simis at the cluebox, with Margie hot on her heels.
Margie: Kisha! Cut it out!
(Cut what out!?)
Kisha: That was unacceptable! Unacceptable!
In the boat, Kisha/Jen tell Vic about the "fight" at the cluebox.
Jaime/Cara get a nice confessional about the Cormorant task.
Kisha conf: Jen's ready for fowl play!
Luke is going to train the birds.
-
Mark claims his dad was a hair stylist.
-
It's the Killer Comorant!!!!!
-
SPEED BUMP!
Mark/Michael have to shampoo, wash and dry 2 women's hair at the hair salon.
ANd can I just say I am getting everything wrong this week.......
-
Neobies GATE :yess:
-
Tammy's comorants fly away!!!! So much for the home language advantage!!
-
Luke shakes off his bitten hand.
Jaime/Cara, almost done.
Kisha/Jen are done and back on their boat.
Kisha/Jen, CLUE: Make your way to Ancient South Gate.
Margie/Luke still there.
Jen: I believe in Karma.
Replay of Luke getting bitten on the hand.
Luke is still birding.
He counts. TEN!
Margie: Way to go! Good job!
Poor Luke, his hand is bleeding.
Tammy ain't done yet.
One more needed.
Her bird flies away!
Vic: The birds are sooo disobedient!
Mark/Michael dry hair.
-
Jen & Kisha and Margie & Luke, can't we all get along?
-
Margie/Luke head back in the boat.
But their driver is taking all day.
Tammy finally gets fish #10.
They're done, in 3rd because of Margie/Luke's boat driver.
Teams are now in taxis making their way to Ancient South Gate.
Everyone's discussion focuses on the wrestling/jousting at the cluebox.
Margie elaborates on the events, for Luke.
She describes it for him, blow by blow.
Luke is really stewing in his own juices about it.
Jen: I think it'll piss 'em off more, if I laugh in his face.
COMMERCIAL
-
I like the tasks so far, even the speedbump was pretty cool :jam:
-
Watching it live too. At the Detour right now.
-
Detour!
-
Watching it live too. At the Detour right now.
Your about a minute ahead.
-
I've done calligraphy. That's fun. :D
-
Kisha & Jen and Margie & Luke do the same detour. Rut ro.
-
pics
-
Kisha: We're definitely out for Margie/Luke now.
Margie to Luke: She says you pushed her first. Just forget about it.
Kisha/Jen, DETOUR.
Phil: Choose between 2 ways of expressing selves.
Choreography, or Calligraphy?
Choreography, an exercise in dancing. Central island, group of locals performing a dance. Execute moves correctly and judge presents the next clue. Teams with a sense of rhythm could be done quickly.
Calligraphy, try your hand at this ancient Chinese art, across the twin bridges. Four calligraphy stations. Copy characters forming the name of the fourth station. All 4 stations for your next clue. Teams could get lost in translation.
Kisha/Jen pick Calligraphy.
Jaime/Cara will dance.
Margie/Luke get into 3rd place and choose Calligraphy, adding a confessional that Luke can't hear the music.
Tammy/Vic choose calligraphy.
Mark/Michael arrive at the Cormorant task.
Jaime/Cara opt for dancing.
-
Blowup number three about to happen, this one involving Jaime.
-
Victor for the title. As expected.
-
Tammy for the title

-
whats with the zyrtec commerical saluting margie and luke ???
-
Vic: Our Chinese sucks!
Tammy: Just copy 'em!
Tammy conf: Sadly, we didn't pay attention in Chinese class!
Jaime/Cara get dance lessons.
It's should be easy but actually pretty awkward for them; basically professional dancers getting twisted around.
You get a stamp when your calligraphy is correct, and you need 4 stamps (1 for each station)
The calligraphy is complicated.
Tammy/Vic, 1 stamp obtained.
Jaime/Cara finally ready to try the dance for the judges.
Locals giggle.
Tammy/Vic speak Chinese to the teachers.
Margie looks confused, and angry, all at the same time.
Jen: Yeah, whatever they said.
At the dance, Jaime is pissed-off at being laughed at.
Tammy/Vic and Kisha/Jen have 2 stamps. So do Margie/Luke, it's a 3 way race at the Calligraphy.
Hopefully there'll be no more wrestling!
Jaime/Cara still at it.
Locals still getting free amusement at their expense.
All three teams now have 3 stamps.
On to the fourth Calligraphy station.
Michael finishes Cormorant task.
-
Puddin explodes

Jaime/Cara finish dance.
They look to the judges for approval.
Judge: NO.
Heads shaking, NO.
2nd judge: NO.
Jaime: What is this crap? Does anybody speak any English whatsoever!? WHAT IS WRONG?
-

Margie & Luke finally break the #1/#4 streak.
-
......... Neobie had it right :yess: :jam:
-
Jaime conf: She did not speak English, at all.
Both: GOODBYE! That was unbelievable!
They run toward the Calligraphy Detour.
Calligraphy 4th station.
Voice: Two words. (But then, why did there appear 3 words on my screen? I'm confuzzled.)
Mark/Michael take taxi to Ancient South Gate.
Tammy/Vic finish.
CLUE: Travel by foot to your next pitstop.
They unravel the picture for the next pitstop, and must stand where they can see exactly that pic.
Phil: Banyan Lake, last team to check in may be eliminated.
Margie/Luke finish in 2nd
Kisha/Jen finish in 3rd
Phil: We have 3 teams all together!
FOOTRACE!
Man: Welcome to Guiling, China.
Phil: Kisha/Jen, you are team #1. Tammy/Victor, team #2. Margie/Luke, team #3. Congratulations! Kisha/Jen, you've won a trip for two to Barbados!
-
......... Neobie had it right :yess: :jam:
I love it how Tammy's face literally shines in the middle of the camera! Excellent shot puddin!

Blowup number 4. At the mat.

Two words in chinese does not necessarily mean two letters/characters though... :)
-
Mark & Michael finally out.
-
Noodle people: Welcome to Guilin, China.
Phil: Jaime/Cara, you are team #4.
-
Mark & Michael dancing :funny:
awwww
:waves:
-
I'm not going to say Jen & Kisha laughed at Luke. But Margie's going to defend Luke no matter what. She's sensitive to anyone laughing when Luke's signing.

I felt that Margie's overprotecting her son so much... I don't see laughing like this... :funny:
-
Man: Welcome to Guilin, China.
Phil: Mark/Michael, you are the last team to arrive. Sorry to tell you, you have been eliminated from the Race. You guys ran it hard to the end.
Conf: Doing the Race with my brother was very special. We hung in there tough. I wouldn't pick anyone else besides him.
Other brother: The Race has shown me places and people I wouldn't otherwise have experienced. The world is an Amazing Place.
-
Well they spoiled next weeks title in the previews.
-
NEXT TIME ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:
Phil: Teams get a relaxing foot massage.
Kisha is in agony!
Phil: ... and when Jen faces her fear of water, she reaches her breaking point.
Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Jen can't even dog paddle!
Jen gets out and cries.
Kisha can't comfort her.
-
The Chinese foot massage is not for the faint hearted.

Well. That was quite an episode. Very good, and surprisingly there were lots of culturally related tasks (yahoo)! I'm actually suprirsed it took them this long to do a calligraphy task. But I do think the episode can be summed in these lessons learned from tonight:
-Comorants speak Chinese, and they only understand Chinese versus say, English or Farsi.
-Do not cross Kisha, Jen, or Margie. Or apparently Luke. Or any comorants.
-Washing hair is fun, unless you're on the receiving end.
-Finish dancing after the music ends (this is very important)!
-Nothing says goodbye to an amazing race team quite like a shot of getting a chest rub from some kathoeys while performing karaoke. Classic.
-It takes 12+ hours to drive from the airport to the hair salon (no wonder Mark & Michael were so far behind!).
-Finding clueboxes near the speed bump sign is a very befuddling task.
-If you're eating outdoors in Guilin, there's a high probablity you'll be selected as a greeter for The Amazing Race.
But I digress. A great episode nonetheless (marred only by Margie's black references. Seirously?).

Loved the whole episode as well!!!
-
I really loved Tammy & Victor tonight. Very upbeat tonight! I enjoyed hearing them talk in Mandarin/Chinese (?) I really hope the spoiler on them is wrong...don't want them to leave next. :'(
Did I miss the departure/arrival time on Michael/Mark, or did they not show it? I'm curious if the spoiler was factual or not.

What spoiler has Tammy & Victor leaving next? I know of no such spoiler just speculation amongst you all. A spoiler isn't a spoiler until it happens so please don't write that the spoilers are this or that ,, its your speculation

Sorry, you're right, I missworded that, I meant to say speculations.

Another fine episode. Yeah, the elimination was anticlimactic once it was definitely ensured that Mark & Michael would be going home, but guess what, people? I wouldn't have had it any other way. Boy, it'll be fun going back and watching my tape to see the two-week fall of Mark & Michael!
Anyway, the tasks. I easily could've done the Roadblock, and I wouldn't have even tried Calligraphy at the Detour. I'd have gone for Choreography just like Jaime & Cara did. While it's usually smart to cut loose the Detours you can't do and go for the sure thing, they were smart to stick to their guns here.
Kisha & Jen: Great leg run by them, taxi troubles notwithstanding. I wish they'd won the leg on their own, though, rather than piggybacking off Tammy & Victor's Chinese (good strategy, but not totally impressive). That said, while I understood their anger at Margie & Luke, laughing at someone having a meltdown is way too passive-aggressive and is in very poor taste in ANY case.
Tammy & Victor: For a team who thought they'd have the advantage in terms of knowing the language and being Chinese, they sure did a poor job at actually winning the leg. Good effort using their language skills, but poor at the Roadblock and not that good with the Detour, either. Aside from all that, they really did just seem to be kind of . . . there this week. Again.
Margie & Luke: Good leg this week, once again, and it was great to see them break free of their first place/fourth place rut. That said . . . seriously, Luke? Body-checking a woman? Not cool, man. And Margie, I see the point you were trying to make at the mat, but you said it in the completely wrong way. I still like them, but their behavior (and Kisha & Jen's) disappointed me.
Jaime & Cara: The girls did a pretty decent job this week, your low finish notwithstanding. And I do love that Jaime is actually trying to make an effort now in dealing with the locals more calmly and maturely. If she keeps this up, they may start doing a whole lot better.
Mark & Michael: They were way too far behind from the get-go. They were done like dinner from the beginning of the leg, and I think they knew it. So I felt no pity or sadness from their elimination. They seemed to do everything well enough on their final leg, though, and at least there was no cheating this time. Still, they were easily the weakest team left, and it was time for them to go.
Okay. With the F4 decided . . .
LOVE: Kisha/Jen, Tammy, Margie/Luke, Jaime/Cara
LIKE: No one
NEUTRAL: Victor
DISLIKE: No one
HATE: No one
Good episode. Can't wait till next week. I sincerely hope Jen's fear of water is a misdirection, though.
-
Was I the only one that was underwhelmed with the arguing at the mat? I thought there would be more but I didn't think it was as bad as I was expecting.
overall what I noticed.....
at the first cluebox......Luke arrived first and Jen was on his back and then reaching over. He pushed back but in my opinion, wouldn't that be a natural reaction when someone is on you as you are trying to open something? sure it was aggressive but if Jen hadn't been aggressive as well, it wouldn't have happened.
at the second cluebox.....with both Kisha and Luke running at full speed, Keisha reached the box first followed by Luke. Luke ran into her and that pushed her into the cluebox. There was no "body checking" going on. Luke even pulled back. Of course Jen couldn't seen that since her eyes were on the box so I could see how she would think that he purposely pushed her.
at the pitstop......I really don't think that keish and jen were laughing at Luke and his signing. I think they were laughing and snickering just as they said they were...it's what they do in tense situations. However I could see how Margie would pereceive it otherwise.
Tensions were high, period. They were both equally at fault. I thought it was going to be a much nastier fight! Unless all the good stuff was edited out!
-
so about the "fight"
i think it was one overreaction after another
if you looked, at both of the clue boxes in question, they both seemed to overreact at least a little bit
but, they didn't seem to be too angry with each other or fighting that much at the detour
i think they only really started fighting when it was addressed at the pitstop
and really it was margie/luke horribly misreading kisha/jen's body language, and again taking it too far
i think both teams acted poorly on this leg, but margie/luke at the mat was too much for me
i still love both teams, and i thought it was very ironic that my two favorites were the one's fighting
-
I just watched the episode and I definetely felt a lot of misinturpretation this episode. Luke probably couldn't hear Jen coming behind him and suddenly jerked around unknowingly. Jen calling him a bitch was wrong though.
However, at the pit stop I think Luke and Margie really overreacted. I see Kisha laughing at the most randomest things all the time. I don't think she was laughing at Luke because he was signing, I think it was one of her akward nervous laughs. I felt really akward cuz Kisha was also being very mature. She realized it got on Margie's nerves and said "I apologize...." Even Phil noticed the misinturpritation when he started saying "I don't think thats what she meant" I think the comment about black people by Margie was uncalled for though....
Both teams just need to relax and think about how stupid their fighting is.
-
It's the Killer Comorant!!!!!
Not quite, Ken, it's a duck that bites Luke, not a cormorant.
-
I'm not going to say Jen & Kisha laughed at Luke. But Margie's going to defend Luke no matter what. She's sensitive to anyone laughing when Luke's signing.
I felt that Margie's overprotecting her son so much... I don't see laughing like this... :funny:
Look again, Mooyou because it is clear to me that Kisha and Jen WERE using taunting faces to egg Luke on in his rant.
-
For me, the single most interesting thing is this episode occurred during the dancing of Jaime/Cara. Their dance instructor, the woman in blue, was the one televised twice laughing at them. They must have been pretty awkward for that to happen.
-

I see... oops, I'll rewatch it again... thanks for notifying though... wow... this confrontation is such a painstaking process even to us here in the forums
-
I'll disagree. I don't think Jen & Kisha were mocking Luke at all.
-
My best part of the episode: the "Jaws" editing on the Duck (yes, it deserves a capital "D")

Haha, a future film, anyone?

I don't think they were either. I think they were trying to laugh away an embarassing, uncomfortable situation.

I don't think they were either. I think they were trying to laugh away an embarassing, uncomfortable situation.
Or laughing at Margie & Luke's revisionist history.
-
I don't think they were laughing at Luke either. Kisha has been laughing randomly this whole race.
But I know I would not be laughing if I had two very offended people yelling at me. It would make me nervous.
Margie's reaction was also very over-the-top and unneccessary. The fight was not intentional. :meow:

I also think that the fight was not necessary, and I will not take a side with this. Overall, this was a pretty good leg though! I just wish they showed the mountains they went to.
