Title: Episode 6: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: puddin on March 22, 2009, 02:27:00 PM
Remember, we might have March Madness overtime  :groan: so we ask those that get to view the show on channel 5, the Philippines? and Canada or wherever NOT to spoil the show outcome until we all get to view it together going by the usual East Coast schedule but with probable time delay.

TYIA  :waves:

Thanks to Ken:
CBS will have three games in the 5 p.m. window for the NCAA Tournament. Their projected start times are 4:50 p.m., 5 p.m. and 5:20 p.m.

Each game takes just over 2 hours to complete. CBS will cut into each game so the entire nation sees the finish and then the East and Central time zones will join 60 Minutes in its entirety probably around 7:30 p.m. So expect TAR to start around 8:20 - 8:30 p.m. provided there's not an overtime period.

I get the CBS Sports press releases so I do have their tip times for the Tournament for this weekend. :)

Ken's schedule is very close. His last televised game is at 520pm +- while CBS Sports lists it as 515pm +-. It depends on the finish times for prior games and the length of these 3 last games for when 60 Minutes starts:

4:50 pm Marquette #6 Missouri #3 CBS - HD (Regional)
5:00 pm USC #10 Michigan St. #2 CBS - HD (Regional)
5:15 pm Siena #9 Louisville #1 CBS - HD (Regional)

Note that CBS plans to cut from one game to the other, so it is whichever is the last game finishes of those 3 that determines the end of NCAA Basketball tonight.

Games are scheduled now for the tip at:

Michigan State vs. USC               505pm

Marquette vs. Missouri               506pm

Siena vs. Louisville                     532pm

SO, the first two will finish aroudn 705pm and whether CBS elects to hold the East Coast 60 Minutes broadcast of President O'Bama for the compleiton of the thrid game is the open question.

Ap,

My contacts at CBS have told me after eight days of promotion, they're not going to cut the Obama interview from the lineup nor will they cut TAR. The entire lineup is running as planned. The earliest 60 Minutes can run with a break for network and local commercials is 7:35 p.m. and that depends if everything runs on time. Big East teams like Louisville have a tendency to play games for more than 2 hours so expect the game to run past 7:40 p.m. on the East Coast.

For those of you have CBS Eye-lert via text or e-mail, be ready for notification in the 7:30 - 7:45 p.m. range.

And yes, Joab, keep your fingers away from the keyboard for longer than you normally do.

It's all cool.  However, if we get a repeat of UConn vs. Syracuse from the Big East tourney, that's a different story.

As an eyewitness to these games, I disagree on the finish time. Both Marquette/Missouri (unless it goes OT, which is possible) and USC/Michigan State (which could also go OT) have about 9 minutes left. The Louisville/Siena game has 14 minutes left. This indicates a finish well before 735pm if there is no OT.

It's 7:31, ap. With the fouling in the Siena-Louisville game, it's going past 7:35. I know these things.

from  sucks SurvivorLDog93 per usual

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Seven teams took a ride on the Trans Siberian Railway from Krasnoyarsk to Novosibirsk. Mike gave Luke the eye after the latter used the blind U-Turn. Vic raised eyebrows by ditching his friends. At the Roadblock, Luke ran away with the lead in frigid temps, and won another leg with mother Margie. Flight attendants Christie/Jodie came in last, but were spared elimination. They'll have a Speed Bump coming up. Tonight, the Race heads to India and takes toll on Mel. (Scene where he lugs a bucket.) And teams have trouble with Taxis. Jamie/Cara: Where did he go? WHERE DID HE GO!?

Credits roll.

And I agree I don't like the peak ahead in the credits

Phil: This is Novisibirsk, the largest city in Siberia. The ballet and opera theatre, the 5th pitstop in a Race around the world.

Margie/Luke, 12:18 am, CLUE: Fly to the pinkest city in India.
Phil: 2000 miles to Jaipur, India. They'll race to the outskirts, Doolah village, Sacred Tree for the next clue.
Luke signs, conf: Very happy to have Mom as my partner, good chemistry.

Tammy/Victor, 12:24 am.
Victor conf: I'm playing the right role of the eldest son in the Asian family. This Race is liberating, to be extroverted, do the unexpected.
CLUE: You must connect through Moscow.

Jamie/Cara leave in 3rd (missed the time, but close behind Tammy/Victor)

At Kassa Ticketing, Tammy/Vic trying to reserve tix on a good flight.
Mel/Mike leave 1:01 am
Mark/Mike, 1:02 am. They observe about all the taller girls in the Race.

Other teams are at the same place. There seem to be more than 1 flight option to Moscow, but from there all on only 1 flight to Jaipur.

Kisha/Jen leave and immediately do confessional about "wanting to enjoy" the Race.
Christie/Jodie 3:04 am last to leave.

PHIL: All teams fllying to Moscow, then all to New Delhi, then all on the 5:40 am flight to Jaipur.
EQUALIZED.

Love the ethnic cabbies!
Christie/Jodie love the sound of the cabbies' horns. Distinctive and funny.

Teams having cab trouble already, one can't get a cab driver to leave at all.
Mel/Mike can't get a trunk open now that their bag is in the trunk.
Mel curses. The driver is gone temporarily. Then he finally gets there.
In cab, Mel: GO! GO! GO! WE'RE SO FAR BEHIND NOW!
Christie/Jodie apparently got a cab without much gas; he stops for gas at a local station.
Cows in the streets.
Poverty.
(And I don't mean Parvati.)
Kisha/Jen "nervous" about the style of driving.
Margie trying to be polite says India is "different."
Luke makes faces, like "Eww."
Mark & Michael notice fires burning in the street, naked kids running around.
Jaime/Cara start to cry at the stray animals.
Luke starts to cry at the kids eating from garbage.
Cab rides aren't exactly putting the teams at ease.

COMMERCIAL.

Sign: DHULA.
Vic: We're in the middle of nowhere!
Tammy: Where's our tree? Oh! I see it.
Tammy/Vic in 1st place, Telephones. For your next clue, dial one of these numbers.
Vic drives it.
Tammy: Babu, tell us what he said?
Voice: Make your way to Amber Fort.
They get back in the cab.

Next group of teams comes, and I think that's everybody.
Well, not quite everybody. Christie/Jodie are in last, some distance behind.
FOOTRACE!
Luke, Jaime/Cara, Kisha/Jen, Mel/Mike ...
Wow, what an old tree!
What a root system!
Goats! I love my goats!
Mel conf: There were these 2 red phones sitting under this sacred tree!
THey don't seem to have the smarts to READ the phone.
Finally, someone does. It's Kisha/Jen! They leave in 2nd.
The voice that says "Ahmbah Foht" sounds like Rob Mariano on helium.
Jaime/Cara: It's a RACE!
Kisha/Jen: We gotta beat THEM!
Mark & Michael leave in 6th. Christie/Jodi just now showing up with everyone else gone.

Tammy/Vic, ROADBLOCK.
Phil: One person must work in the shadow of the Maharajah fort, and care for camels.
Care for Camel: Load enough food/water to satisfy the camels in their group. Food must reach the designated line and water must overflow the trough, for next CLUE.

Bwahaha! Vic runs with a basket of hay, and it hits him in the face due to the wind, which he in his brilliance had failed to account for!

Mark/Michael's cab gets them from 6th place to 2nd. They giggle in the back seat.

Vic now has the hang of it.
Tammy, off to the side: He has led such a privileged life!
The other teams start showing up.
Vic is nearly done with the food part of the challenge.
Teams pass a flautist with a cobra.
Voice: WHAT THE HELL!?

Everybody except Tammy/Vic in 1st, and Christie/Jodie not there yet, are in a tight contest from 2nd through 6th.

Lots of giggles as team members carry buckets of water, and baskets of food.
Luke to Margie: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!11!1!
Kisha: This is no fun, Jen!
Kisha conf: I've never had livestock. I've never even had a PET!
Mel huffs and puffs, and narrowly misses a pile of camel sheeeeet.
Mike isn't sure he chose the right Roadblock for Mel to do, although Mel does have to do some.

Tammy/Vic, CLUE: Make your way to the Rajistani Puppet Store.

KABLOOMIE! A local guy gets kicked in the gonads by a camel, and goes down HARD!

Christie/Jodie finally arrive.
Tammy/Vic are happy to be in 1st, as they leave in the cab.

Mike wonders aloud whether he picked the wrong ROADBLOCK to give a 68-year old man (i.e., his father, Mel)

Mike grimaces.
Mel's huffing and puffing sounds like a pre-cardiac arrest.
Mel is in agony.
So is Mike.

Mel passes by a sneering camel, certain that he'll die of heatstroke.
Kisha pulls a huge amount of hay inside her bazooms, with the bucket beneath.
Jen: Whatever works!
Mel notices that the CLUE says "Use the native implement for carrying the hay" or summat, which the others aren't doing that. They're using a bucket.

Tammy/Vic, DETOUR.
Phil: Movers, or Shakers?
Movers: Travel to a designated location, transport filled barrels through the congested streets, and deliver, then search for an elephant hidden within.
Shakers: Join Rajistani dance troupe in costume, shaking their hips for tips. Exchange the cash for next CLUE.

Tammy/Vic put on costumes and start to dance. They beg for tips in the streets along the way.
Kisha/Margie/Jamie all doing the hay transfer now, fighting for 2nd place.
Christie/Jodie trying to catch up.
Finally Kisha figures out that the RAKE (native implement) will help her with the hay.
Tammy/Vic having a ball.
They're dancing and playing instruments with a fun group!
Kisha has one more bale to go.
Mel thinks he's close. He's done!
Mel/Mike, get CLUE, 2nd place.
Mike: Awesome! You smoked the roadblock!
Mel gags.
Jaime finishes in 3rd.
Margie, 4th. Kisha finishes in 5th. Seconds separate them all.
They all get back in the cabs.
Women have hay in their boobage.

For unknown reasons, the CLUE Mark & Michael read says "Caution! Speed Bump Ahead!"
Apparently Christie/Jodie didn't want to read it for the Camera?
Mark/Michael, 6th, Christie/Jodie, last.
The latter have to do the Speed Bump now.

Tammy/Vic have enough money. CLUE, Make your way to the next pitstop.
Phil: Jaigarh Fort, the last team to check in may be eliminated.

Mel/Mike don funny gear and start dancing like [SimonCowell] drunkards at a wedding. [/SimonCowell]
Mike rakes in the dough.
Tammy/Vic make some comment about poverty, and festivity. I'm sure some other site will make sense of it. I can't.
Finally someone chooses the Ricksha/MOVERS option ... Mark/Michael.
Kisha/Jen start dancing in costume.
Jen: I have no problem dancing with a horse on!
Luke dances in costume. He can't 'hear' the music.
Luke Conf: I read people's faces, see how they act.
Mom: Do you dance?
Luke, conf: I dance! But I was letting her get all the money.
Margie: Thank you! Thank you!
Mark/Michael find the barrells.
They load the bikes and start carrying these huge piles of barrels on their bikes.

SPEED BUMP, Christie/Jodie.
Phil: An extra task that only they must complete.
The Kalahamandu Temple, decorate elephant with colored paint, to the Mahoo's satisfaction.

Yey for Tammy/Victor being first again! Asians rock!  :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: Anyway, I so much disagree on how the Speedbumps are located... It's so unfair unlike the 12th season (kynt and vyxsin and TK/Rachel's), Ken/Tina, Dandrew, Christie/Jodi's speedbump is like saying its instant death...  Season 13 speedbumped teams were lucky enough that other teams fumbled more than them...  Hope Christie/Jodi makes up time...

Mark/Michael are the new Dandrew! They're last in everything!  :funny:

Flautist plays two flutes!
Flautist: Welcome to Jaipur, India.
Phil: Tammy/Victor, you are team #1. You've each won an ocean kayak.
Tammy: That's so useful in San Francisco!
Vic conf: We're relating well to each other now.

Mel/Mike finish dancing in 2nd, head for the pitstop.
Margie has the oddest tooth decoration!
Christie/Jodie confessional as they paint the elephant.
"No matter what, don't quit!"

Jaime/Cara finish dancing next.
Jaime/Cara climb atop a median fence to catch a taxi. They can't find theirs.
"He just left! I can't believe he did that! He left WITH OUR BAGS!"
They say they've looked for him 20 minutes.
"He stole our bags!"
Margie/Luke finish, offer to help, and Jaime/Cara finally find him by accident.
They give him a good ass-chewing.
Kisha/Jen finish next.
Mark/Michael take off some of their load, to empty out the barrels and search for the elephant hidden inside.
Kisha/Jen leave in their taxi as Christie/Jodie arrive to begin dancing.
Mark/Michael can't find their elephant inside their hay-filled barrels.
Hay everywhere. No elephant.
Mark/Michael: SONOFABITCH! NO ELEPHANT!

I wonder how Mark & Michael managed to beat Christie & Jodi to the Pit Stop.  Maybe their driver was just fater than that of Christie & Jodi.

I should have chosen LaKisha & Jen for Joab's game!

And as for Margie, I guess she just got heatstroke or badly dehydrated.

Phil: Teams go wild in Thailand.
Elephants put their enormous feet on Racers who are lying on the ground.
Other Racers up close and personal with huge tigers.
Voice: Guys, quiet! I don't want to get eaten!

Phil: ... and the sweltering heat takes its toll on Margie.
Margie swoons.
Luke tries to hold her up, then panics as she hits the ground.

Wow. That was a great episode. Culture shock, the telephones & nose flutes, plus a great detour and roadblock (congrats to Mel for well, figuring it out). Next week looks like a literal mat meltdown. :P Christie & Jodi's elimination was very, very sad and I wish they could've done better though. :( Mark & Michael still seem almost...Dandrew-esque, but not quite as bumbling as them.

And please, next season, give us a brother/sister team that ISN'T a power team. Azaria & Hendekea, Nick & Starr, and now Tammy & Victor. Geez.

Officially from CBS Eye-lert, start time is 8:51 p.m., but I was pretty damned close.
Ken, you were much more accurate than I. I was astounded that  CBS took 14 minutes from the end of the Louisville/Siena game until 60 Minutes started. I guess we can expect that for the next 2 Sundays.

I was also astounded at how all 3 games got dragged out, but fortuantely none went to overtime.

Next week is the regional final and the tip time will probably be about 5:05 p.m. ET. I would say 60 Minutes would start sometime in the 7:15 - 7:25 p.m. range next week.

In two weeks, we deal with a pre-emption.

The week after that, April 12 is The Masters and there will likely be an overrun as well.

Christie & Jodi leave before Mark & Michael. Interesting.
This statement is probably true. However, did you see one of the teams in position 2 to 5 pass by Mark and Michael on their way to Jaigarth Fort? That means that Mark/Michael had a built-in edge of shorter distance to that fort. That is what allowed them to overcome the presumed earlier start to the pit stop of Christie/Jodi.

I felt Christie/Jodi had earned not being last with excellent performance on the ROADBLOCK and SPEED BUMP and DETOUR bringing them nearly even after their taxi ride from Jaipur airport to Dhula Village put them far back in last place. Doing their extra task, which with transportation both ways may have cost them 30 minutes, was the straw breaking the camel's back.

Who would voluntarily do a needle in the haystack choice? :groan:

There are the majority of times when it isn't a good idea to do needle-in-haystack tasks. However, sometimes you have to in order to avoid last place.  For example, it probably would have been a good idea for Christie/Jodi to have done the barrels DETOUR. The best example I can give you is AR10 in Barcelona where Dustin/Kandice went for the strength task and avoided the clue-in-the-tomato-pile task. They were behind due to the Marked For Elimination penalty and really had no chance on the task they selected to make up 30 minutes.

This was very tense, except for seeing who'd come in first.

Tammy & Victor: They ran a good leg tonight.  They got lucky to find a driver right off the bat, while the other teams all had to scramble to find their own drivers.  But Victor cleaned up at the Roadblock, and they both rocked the Shakers Detour.  But Victor's voice is starting to bug me something fierce now.  Still like them, but take it down a notch, please, Victor.

Mel & Mike: Great job figuring out a good way to blow through the Roadblock the way you did, Mel.  But no more pity parties when you think you've lost the whole race for yourself and Mike, okay?  I'm getting a sad fifth- or fourth-place-finisher vibe from them, absolutely.

Kisha & Jen: Wow, they really made up for last week's near-disaster.  Kisha rocked out that Roadblock (after figuring out she could use the basket, of course), and Jen seemed really comfortable doing the Shakers Roadblock despite being laughed at.  Their speed helped them win that footrace, so good on them.

Margie & Luke: For once, not too much of them this week.  But I loved Margie being reminded that she's the "Bionic Woman."  I don't know how they heard about Tammy's nickname for her.  Luke surprisingly had rhythm at the Shakers Detour.  The deaf guy has rhythm.  Who knew?

Jaime & Cara: They're still my favorite team.  But my issue with them this week was not their task performance, as they did that pretty well, but their local interactions.  Jaime, PLEASE CALM DOWN.  Your driver didn't mean to make you think he'd abandoned you and Cara.  And not all people at a task will speak English.  Be lucky you have Cara there at all, or you'd have blown up long ago.

Mark & Michael: For being the one team to pick the needle-in-a-haystack Detour alone, I reeeeaaaalllly hoped that'd be the final nail in the coffin for them.  And this is coming from someone who LIKES them.  They were last out of the Detour, yet somehow reached the Pit Stop before Christie & Jodi.  Probably a faster cab driver in the end.

Christie & Jodi: It looks like their Speed Bump isn't really what hurt them that much.  I think they were disadvantaged by their cab driver stopping for gas.  That put them way too far back to even have a chance.  Without that mishap, I think they'd have beaten Mark & Michael.  Still, when Jodi mentioned missing her daughter, I knew they were probably toast.  It's the Women's Team Curse of India, and after striking Monica & Sheree, Tian & Jaree, and Kelly & Christy, it struck Christie & Jodi, too, though just barely.  I'm gonna miss them.  The show won't be the same without them at all.

I'd have done Shakers for the Detour myself, and I probably wouldn't have thought of the baskets, either, until seeing Mel doing it, so I sympathize will all the other racers doing that Roadblock.

So after six episodes . . .

LOVE: Tammy, Mel/Mike, Kisha/Jen, Margie/Luke, Jaime/Cara
LIKE: Victor, Mark/Michael
NEUTRAL: No one
DISLIKE: No one
HATE: No one

Well, after having two straight weeks of all loves, Mark & Michael's incompetence has pushed them down to "like" for me, as has Victor's basic annoyance factor.

GO, KISHA & JEN AND JAIME & CARA!
