This week and next week, TAR will start on time. Even with Duke-North Carolina running over the 6 p.m. news window today, either your local news or the CBS Evening News will be squeezed so 60 Minutes and the rest of the CBS primetime lineup can start at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.

In two weeks, the NCAA Tournament begins and there will most likely be an overrun in the late game.

The right team won tonight! North Carolina defeats Duke which means both the men's and women's team lost today and everything is right with the world! This means all of America can sleep well.

PREVIOUSLY ON .. THE AMAZING RACE:

Phil: Nine teams left Salzburg, to Rumania. At the airport, Brad/Victoria took a gamble through Amsterdam that didn't pay off. They missed a connection. Chris propelled his team into the lead at the Detour, but a mistake allowed Mel/Mike to claim 1st place. Tammy/Victor were led astray by Vic until Tammy spoke up; they barely survived. Married couple Brad/Victoria were Philiminated. Tonight, Margie/Luke target one team in a new twist, the "Blind U-Turn."

Margie: You don't have to put your picture up on the board. I would do anything to win the game.

Amanda/Kris, 10:53 pm.
He can't pronounce Kras-NOY-arsk.
(****. I would literally cream myself to go there.)
Neither can Kisha/Jen, at 10:53.
Margie/Luke don't even try, at 10:56.
Mark & Michael can't even pronounce Siberia.

Flight Attendants leave pronouncing things adequately.
Jamie/Cara come close.

How in the hell did Mark & Michael get on a cell phone and call another team?
On the phone, Jamie/Cara fake them out and give them the business!

Tammy/Vic leave at 1:30 am, an hour and a half later than the other teams.

Flight attendants go online to check all the available flights. Apparently Czech airlines does okay.
They'll book online.
The airport is kinda closed.
But there are people behind the various counters.

It's Kras-NOY-arsk, you ninnies!

Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on March 08, 2009, 07:20:20 PM
Some teams take a lead.
They'll land in Krasnoyarsk in the early predawn, 5:40 am.
Five Teams got stuck in Moscow, though.
So it's more or less 3 early teams and 5 late teams.
The locale opens at 8:30.
Mark: So we didn't have to be in such a hurry.
Kisha/Jen and Christie/Jodi are there too.

Morning.
Christie/Jodi look at a pic of Lenin and call him "He's a dictator, like."

CLUE, Mark/Mike, Go to Church of St. Innokenty for the next clue.
Mark/Michael can't pronounce that, either.

There's the little bitty wood church. DETOUR.
Phil: Choose between 2 things they protect from the cold. Stack, or Construct?
Stack, travel to a riverbank, stack a pile of firewood to the hight and satisfaction of a local for next clue.
Construct, travel on foot to a workshed, build wood shutters, assemble and take to a house with a 'repair needed' sign in front, install properly for next clue.

The girls are doing wood stack.
The guys are now gonna do wood stack, too, having discussed building and eschewed that option.

Apparently you have to stack up up up and across across across to get the stack to the desired leve.

Second group arrives in the airport with the other teams.
The dam is their destination, too.
They take taxis and somone actually knows SPASYIBO! means hurry it up. Congrats!
Or they carried a Berlitz book, one.

The girls are doing so well.
One of 'em looks at Mark/Mike, "Oh, that sucks."
Mark/Mike head in the other direction to construct shutters.

Gotta love the taxi peeps talking in English. Go fast! Go fast!
Like they speak a lot of English in the middle of Siberia?
Cabs stop.
FLAG! FOOTRACE!

Mike/Mark almost get devoured by a Siberian Husky. They look and go the other way, smartly.
They don't see any sign that says "Repair needed" so theyr'e confused about the CLUE.
Kisha/Jen are nice and tall so they can see the top of the stack.
Christie/Jodi right there with em.

Kisha/Jen, CLUE: Make your way to the Museum of the Somethingorother.
CAUTION! U-TURN AHEAD!
Phil: Teams can use the U-Turn to slow another team, forcing them to backtrack and do both Detours. Previously they had to post their pic. Now they can remain anonymous.
Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on March 08, 2009, 07:25:54 PM
Kisha/Jen, decide not to U-Turn anyone. CLUE: Bobrovy Log Park, search for the next CLUE.
Christie/Jodi agree not to UTurn anyone either.

The other 5 teams in the rear are basically tied as they choose DETOURS.
Love the music and the fires! I really want to visit Siberia, but while I'm still young enough to stand the cold ...

Back to the PBP.
Kisha/Jen, ROADBLOCK.
Phil: One team member rides a track on a bobsled course, must finish in under 4 minutes and look for 7 letters along the way. When done, they have to unscramble the letters to spell CHEKHOV, a famous Russsian playwright.
Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary

Cara & Jaime get a bit catty as Amanda does not stack wood.

Mark & Michael cannot find the house.

Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on March 08, 2009, 07:29:42 PM
Mark/Michael start asking the locals whose house needs to be repaired. THey're kinda clueless as they wander through Siberia on foot.
And it's gray.
And it's wet.
And it's cold.

Christie/Jodi have the seven letters, but the time??? She made it 4:00 exactly, which will do. She wrote all 4 letters.
They begin the unscramble task.
But they have no freakin' idea who the playwright could be.
Oh, well, so much for edumacation in the States.

Most of the remaining teams are doing the wood stack.
Mike/Mel's stack tumbles down.
Jaime/Kara lose part of theirs.
Amanda/Kris lose about half of theirs.
COMMERCIAL.

Pavel didn't have 2 h's?

Back to the PBP ... lots of wood goes crashing down.
Tammy/Vic seem to be okay though.
The other teams wonder whether they should reconsider their DETOUR choice.
Mike/Mel change DETOURS.
Jaime/Cara just stay where they are.
Mike/Mel, meanwhile, are still very lost. They decide to build the shutter first (which is what the clue says) and then try to figure out where to install it.
But ... on the funny ... they can't build it correctly!!

Kisha returns with the other letters.
It's a race now, between a team that has no clue and a team that thinks they know who they're looking for.

Tammy/Vic finish stack, in 3rd.
Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on March 08, 2009, 07:36:29 PM
Margie/Luke leave get their CLUE in 3rd. They U-Turn the next team leaving their Amanda/Kris who actually just left seconds behind them.
They have to do both now.
Tammy/Vic aren't going to U-Turn anyone.

Kisha/Jen quickly get CHEKHOV and the CLUE.
Christie's still working.
Kisha/Jen, CLUE: Travel by taxi to the next pitstop.
Phil: Theatre of musical comedy. Last team to check in may be eliminated.

Christie/Jodi finish in 2nd and head to the pitstop.
Mark/Mike decide to work together with Mel/Mike on the other DETOUR.
Tammy/Vic reach the ROADBLOCK just ahead of Margie/Luke.
Vic and Luke are sledding.
Amanda/Kris arrive at the other DETOUR, courtesy of the U-Turn.

Kisha/Jen arrive. THey look for the entrance.
So do Christie/Jodi.
It's a race to find the way IN.

Group: Welcome to Krasnoyarsk!
Phil: Christie/Jodi, you're team #1.
Both: NO WAY!
Phil: Yes, way. You've each won a motorcycle.
Conf: We don't want to get too confident! We've been at the bottom!

Phil: Kisha/Jen, you're team #2.

Vic gets CHEKHOV quickly. They leave for the pitstop in 3rd.
They wish Margie well as she roots for Luke. Luke finishes in 3:58.
Now he has to do the Unscramble.
CONF, Margie, translating: I've never had any literature class. I had no idea who he was.
Literally, Luke takes the letters and randomly stacks them for a try at the translation.

Luke gets frustrated, as he has utterly no idea.
At least he knows it's a Russian author.
He looks to Margie.
M: I can't help you.
He looks very, very frustrated.

Mel/Mark and Mike/Mark are close to being done with the construction. Now to the install.
Jaime/Cara have 5 pieces left to stack.
Luke has like, no idea.
Margie: Don't give up!

Jaime/Cara leave wood stack in 5th.

Three teams, M/M, M/M and Kris/Amanda, carry shutters through the wet, cold, gray streets of Krasnoyarsk.
Mike conf: The last 3 teams were like a caravan of idiots.
Margie: He's so frustrated. I want to help him but I can't.
Luke tosses the letters on the ground.

(FOUR? ONLY FOUR? Sheesh.)
Jaime and Cara are 5th now, so possibly they'll arrive in time to help Luke.

The 3 teams wandering through the streets with shutters finally find Repairs Needed signs.
In English.
Plus, the houses have like, no shutters!

Luke takes a piece of paper and tries to make words out of the letters. Good idea.
Luke accidentally spells CHEKHOV.
They ieeeeeee! to celebrate.
CLUE to pitstop. They run to the taxis.

They have to re-stack wood, the detour they abandoned earlier.

Phil: Tammy/Victor, you're team #3.

Jaime/Cara finish Chekhov. They head for the pitstop.

Mel/Mike arrive at Roadblock in 6th.

Phil: Margie/Luke, you're team #4.
They jump up and down in glee.

Phil: Jamie/Cara, you're team #5.
Amanda/Kris finish stacking wood, and kiss the gentleman who gives them their clue.
Kris: We have a good feeling it was Jen/Kisha. It makes sense.
Amanda: The blondes aren't trustworthy, either. Margie/Luke, too.

Mel finishes Chekhov and they leave in 6th.

The Midgets do bobsled and start the unscramble.
Amanda/Kris haven't done the ROADBLOCK yet.
Midgets finish Chekhov quickly.
Kris will do the sledding.

Phil: Mel/Mike, you're team #6.

Amanda/Kris have utterly no idea.
Kris decides to try CH to start, which finally gives him the name.
They leave in last.
Mark/Mike don't have enough monehy for their cab ride!
They present the rubles they have.
They negotiate the rest.
They offer their jackets.
Sheesh!
It's darker in Amanda/Kris' cab, though, so I think this is an editing trick.
Midgets leave.

Phil: Mark/Michael, you're team #7.

Group: Welcome to Krasnoyarsk!
Phil: Amanda/Kris, you're the last team to arrive.
Both: We thought so.
Phil: Sorry to tell you, you've been eliminated from the Race.
Amanda conf: The best thing was traveling with Kris. We bonded more than ever.
Kris conf: I'm so deeply in love with her, it's ridiculous.
Amanda: I see us together for the rest of our lives.

Great leg!

Wow, I never would've expected Margie & Luke to use the U-Turn!  But once I found that out (and thanks to knowing that Christie & Jodi, LaKisha & Jen and Mark & Michael were way ahead), I kind of figured Amanda & Kris would get the U-Turn.  IIRC, Margie & Luke had a loose alliance with Tammy & Victor (I don't know if it still works now) and have one with Cara & Jamie so those two teams were out, and Mel & Mike were a weaker team.  As Margie & Luke correctly realized, Amanda & Kris were strong, so they targeted them.

I also wonder how long it took for Amanda & Kris to find out who used the Blind U-Turn on them.  It should be interesting to find out.

I think this episode was on par with the first one, IMO, with the exception of Phil spoiling the episode. :res: When they first showed the "find the Verzasca Dam based on this photo", I thought it was the only clue like that they'd have on the show, but the "find the dam on the back of the 10 rouble bill" was clever too. That detour was tough, and apparently the roadblock was too (though Cara [or Jaime] guessing and getting it right the first try was pretty funny). I was a bit surprised Margie & Luke U-Turned, but ehh. I just think it's weirder that already after 4 episodes, there's no chance that a dating/married couple is going to win this race. And congrats to Christie & Jodi for proving that anything is possible, even for those who speak Spanish in Switzerland (I'm joking, I think I'm love with you two now). Great episode, hope that next week's follows up with the underwear-in-snowstorm jogging challenge.

EDIT: By the way, THANK YOU editors for not making this episode exclusively about Margie & Luke (though it veered fairly close) or Tammy & Victor, thank you for changing the previews. I've got mixed feelings about the preview change, though.

I thought the taxi fares were a bit high. The 8000 rubles that Mark/Michael mentioned when they had only 5000 rubles would be $286(Nov. 2008 exchange rate of 28). That is a lot for going from the airport to Krasnoyarsk and then around Krasnoyarsk. That airport is 37 km from Krasnoyarsk.

I am shocked.  Just . . . shocked.  With two legs in Siberia, I really figured that one would be a non-elimination leg.  But when Amanda & Kris gave their confessional how sure of themselves they were (being young and fit and all that), I had a feeling that this leg might be an elimination leg.  And then, Margie & Luke got worried about how strong and fast Kris was, and I had a feeling that they'd get U-Turned.  Finally, Amanda & Kris bitched about getting U-Turned, and I knew they were toast.

And my thoughts?  Good.  I liked them okay, but they really were the last generic team left.  So now that we've got seven really unique teams left in the race, I'm definitely going to be happy with whomever takes the big prize in the end.

Oh, and Christie & Jodi winning the leg?  FINE BY ME!  They really earned it!  Kisha & Jen would've had Kisha not botched the Roadblock and then missed the entrance to the theater.  This is the first time since All-Stars that two women's teams have taken the top two spots on a leg (as Dustin & Kandice and Charla & Mirna had three one-two finishes)!  Excellent episode, indeed!

And yes, Poo.  The women's teams did do well this week (Jaime & Cara's Detour struggle notwithstanding).  Really amazing that they all made it through four legs unscathed!  But I think that's as far as they're going before the first one takes a hit.

Okay.  Team analyses:

Christie & Jodi: Well-earned victory, indeed.  They thought smart in their Detour choice and stayed calm despite Christie's Roadblock struggle.  They were also smart to look up flights ahead of time and got ahead because of it.  I enjoyed seeing them own this leg, and I hope it's the start of them turning their performances around.

Kisha & Jen: Another really solid leg after last week's great leg.  They did just as well as Christie & Jodi save for Kisha's Roadblock brain fart.  I think if they'd just run to the right entrance of the theater, they'd have won the leg, for sure.

Tammy & Victor: Nice recovery this week.  They made good time with the Detour, Victor did well with the Roadblock, and they made up for their near-elimination the greatest of ease.  Congratulations to them.  I actually liked Victor a lot better this week, too.

Margie & Luke: Good job at the Detour, and it was smart to U-Turn Amanda & Kris since, as they said, they are strong and threatening (especially Kris).  Luke really had trouble with that Roadblock, but good on him to try writing down different combinations of letters.  But I hope they don't become the villain team next week.

Jaime & Cara: Jaime really panicked at the Detour when their wall started to fall, but good on Cara for staying as calm as she could, and keeping Jaime from going over the top.  But girls, please stop the "no need for boys!" thing.  It was cute in your Insider videos, but it could get old here.

Mel & Mike: Lowest finish so far, and all because of a.) messing up at the Stack Detour and b.) messing up at finding the delivery location of the Construct Detour.  Mel cleaned up at the Roadblock, though, so of the bottom three teams, they deserved to finish ahead of all of them.

Mark & Michael: They could've easily nailed a place in the top three if they'd just started over with the stacking or just not messed it up.  Switching Detours slowed them down, and failing to find the house slowed them down even more.  Michael also failed to pay close enough attention at the Roadblock, but good job figuring out the answer right away upon getting all seven letters.  I'm sure losing all their money will hurt them going forward, though.  They're very lucky Amanda & Kris got U-Turned, or they would've been toast.

Amanda & Kris: Switching Detours was the catalyst for their demise.  Not finding the house location in time made things worse for them.  Getting U-Turned by Margie & Luke was the clincher.  I'm okay with this ending, though.  They were a strong, solid team, but also very, very, very generic, and, to be honest, kind of boring.  So I'm not sad to see them go.

Oh, and I'd have probably done Stack for the Detour, but wouldn't have been opposed to doing Construct, either.

So . . . after episode four:

LOVE: Christie/Jodi, Kisha/Jen, Tammy/Victor, Margie/Luke, Jaime/Cara, Mel/Mike, Mark/Michael
LIKE: No one
NEUTRAL: No one
DISLIKE: No one
HATE: No one

Oh, my God!  What a great season indeed!  For me, only loves are left!

While I don't really care for any of the aspects of the race that allow you to slow down another team, it is part of the race.  And my biggest problem with it has been illogical uses of it (Yeah BJ & TYler I am so talking to you), and not being upfront about it (especially with us the viewers (Hi Dustin & Kandice I am talking to you).  It looks like next week Luke is honest about it (I hope).

No, based on Mark & Michael stalling during their money problems, I think they could've made it.  Plus, Danielle & Dani weren't the only eighth-place-finishers to be Yielded or U-Turned out of the race.  So were Lorena & Jason in TAR12.
Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: mswood on March 08, 2009, 11:56:00 PM
On the Yield/U-Turn.

Dani & Danielle were the only team eliminated on the Yield or U-Turn that weren't already in last place (they were next to last with Ray & Yolanda behind them, and imagine that team made final three).

Lorena & Jason were toast without the U-Turn.  They started considerable after any other teams and that was one of a handful of TAR episode that had absolutely no points to bunch or slow teams up and allow other to catch up, except based on their own racing skills.

I would guess and its only a guess, that Amanda & Kris would have not been eliminated (though they ended last, Mark & Michael actually took longer doing the tasks, remember they were first flight).  Mark & Michael probably wasted enough time, that Amanda and Kris would have been able to pass them at the entrance to the Pit Stop.  They still had a terrible leg, but they should have been able to sneak by.

Amanda & Kris are out. Should be interesting to see their reaction at Elimination Station. They're going to be bitter.

Negatory, but from the preview, it appears the teams still in it find out Luke did the U-Turn.

Based on elimination station, Amanda & Kris still did not know who U-turned them, guessing it still to be Jen & Kisha.
Luckily, though a little upset, they do not seem to be bitter.  Again shows what great people they are.  They stay postive and seem to enjoy their time in Thailand.
According to the preview for next week, the teams find out that Margie & Luke posted the U-turn (I bet they were honest).  I would assume that the next team eliminated will tell Amanda & Kris at the elimination station that Margie & Luke did it, so they would know before the final pit stop.
Title: Re: Episode 4: East Coast live show updates and commentary
Post by: Hooky on March 09, 2009, 04:27:39 PM
My thoughts on this episode have mostly been stated already: I'm glad the female teams jumped to the front, and I loved seeing Christie & Jodi finish first. I was glad that the challenges were challenging, and the blind U-turn was a creative idea. But I was disappointed because they made the intro dumb. I don't want a weirdly changing intro that shows the teams racing. Keep it the same the whole season!

Amanda & Kris weren't ready to go out yet. Without the U-turn, they would have beaten Mark & Michael, because all three teams finished the task together. Unfortunately I knew they were out as soon as the episode started, thanks to the "overconfidence interview" they always give the eliminated team now! Try not to ruin the outcome so early, CBS. :groan:

Thoughts on the teams:

Christie & Jodi: They did an excellent job on this leg! It was way cool to see them finish first after their dismal previous placings.

Kisha & Jen: Ditto above. They really did better than C & J, except for the Roadblock. They would have finished first.

Tammy & Victor: Thankfully they got a chance to have an invisible edit. I've seen enough of them already, so this episode made up for most of the previous ones.

Margie & Luke: Starting to emerge as the villains of the season thanks to the editing teams' agenda. I lost some love for them with the insulting U-turn that they could have (and should have) put on Tammy & Victor, who were their real threat.

Jaime & Cara: Solid leg, the only reason they finished this low was because of the bad flight. And despite Luke's decision to try and "save" them, they really were in no danger this episode.

Mel & Mike: They still got a slightly overabundant edit, but not one that became annoying. They had some problems and overall ran an average leg for a Father/Son team.

Mark & Michael: They had a chance to finish well, but they lost that opportunity quickly. I'm surprised they had so much trouble finding the house. They seem like they are aspiring to become like Andrew & Dan!

ELIMINATED
Amanda & Kris: Unfortunately they become yet another awesome team to leave the race due to no real fault of their own, although I think they could have been faster at the Detour if they had broken away from the M & M teams. Although it is not true that, as CBS says, Luke "orchestrated" their elimination, I am still angry at Luke for this upsetting decision that was very poorly made. You should U-turn the biggest threat to you (in this case, Tammy & Victor), which of course they didn't do. This team had so much more potential, and I know they would have gone the distance if it wasn't for this.

I loved Amanda & Kris too - they were so supportive of one another!!  Although I think you are being a little contradictory.  Yes, Tammy & Victor are a threat to Margie & Luke, but Amanda & Kris were absolutely a threat as well (maybe not in this leg, but in the big picture).  You even say they would have 'gone the distance' if it wasn't for the U-turn.  Isn't that a big enough threat?  Luke (and Margie) didn't do it to be mean but only to potentially get rid of a large threat.  I don't know if I could have done it myself... but I think it was smart for them.

The problem this season is that there are no more couples now that Amanda and Kris are eliminated!  You need couples in a race to make it intersting!  I am just glad we still have an interesting cast.  This season is still better than the past two and is one of the best ones.

hoeybee, what you say about the rationale for Margie/Luke to U-Turn Amanda/Kris is actually true. There was a longer term juustification for that. However, that is not why they did it. Luke was all hot and bothered to help his friends Jaime and Cara stay in the race and he figured (correctly) that their chances were much improved if Amanda/Kris had an extra 30 minutes or so to deal with. Let us now see how Margie/Luke do with the karma aspects of their decision. It appears that they may do another U-Turn next episode.

If you read the interviews Amanda and Kris gave, Margie obviously lied to them about Kisha and Jen saying they'll definitely use the U-TURN if they have the chance, which Kisha and Jen obviously didn't... sneaky huh Margie and Luke.. i think it's unjustifiable for the U-TURN used because as much as Margie and Luke wants Cara and Jaime to stay in the race.. they know that teams behind them would use the U-TURN on their own if they want to. Not a very good move in the short run because it didn't help them one single bit to gain any advantage in the race at that point of time, but it was DEFINITELY a good move as it got rid of a much stronger team who could steal their chances of winning in the long run. What was a pity was that it wasn't a NEL. You do know it sucks to go out the race due to something you cannot control. :(

And Mark and Michael checked in 10 mins before Amanda and Kris, which means.. the U-TURN really sealed the fate of Amanda and Kris.

That's a bunch of bologna.  Amanda & Kris absolutely had some fault in their own elimination.  Had they stuck with Stack, they probably could've done Construct quickly enough to stay in it.  Plus, Kris struggled with the Roadblock, another thing that hurt them.  So yeah, the U-Turn hindered them, but the aforementioned problems were definitely their fault, and not out of their control.

Well, I have some choice comments on the above. Joab, Margie/Luke would probably have U-Turned Tammy/Victor if they had the chance to, but Tammy/Victor went through the Blind U-Turn opportunity in 3rd place before Margie/Luke ever got there. You cannot U-turn a team in front of you and if you try to (Kynt/Vyxsin on Nicolas/Donald in AR12) you jsut waste it!

Hooky, the situation that Luke was concerend about was if Jaime/Cara happened to be in last place.  If that were true given the closeness of the last 4 teams it is likely that it would have kept Jaime/Cara alive. However as it turned out Jaime/Cara worked hard and fast on Stack and earned 5th place on their own. So they in fact could have used the Blind U-Turn but Luke did not know that at the time he made the decision because nobody was in 5th place then.

Margie and Luke, Cara and Jaime and Tammy and Victor have an alliance. They will not U-TURN Tammy and Victor..

The only fault they had was to not finish the Detour before Margie and Luke, other than that, the U-TURN killed them. It was out of their control. They can't control Margie and Luke and ask them not to U-TURN them? Unless you think so otherwise? :funny:

Joab, you have missed the main point Ashe was making. It is that Amanda/Kris could have performed better at Stack the first time and not even been behind Margie/Luke. Or Kris could have known who Chekhov is and aced the name puzzle like Victor did. Or they could have done better on Construct. As it turned out, they finished only 10 minutes behind. Any one of these factors, totally under their own control, could have saved them.

Well, I really meant that they could've stuck with Stack and, if they still got U-Turned, done Construct quickly enough without getting lost trying to find the house.

Joab, Margie/Luke would probably have U-Turned Tammy/Victor if they had the chance to, but Tammy/Victor went through the Blind U-Turn opportunity in 3rd place before Margie/Luke ever got there. Actually, Margie & Luke got there in third place.  Tammy & Victor got there behind them in fourth.  That's how they were to see that Amanda & Kris had gotten U-Turned, which prompted Tammy to remind us that Kris (yes, just Kris) was too strong to risk getting close to the end of the race.  They only managed to pass Margie & Luke and moving into third place by running for the Roadblock clue.

Joab, perhaps I am wrong, but it doesn't sound like Margie told them that Kisha & Jen would U-Turn them.  I just re-watched the clips and they talk about being at dinner at the Pit Stop and they were going around the table and asking who would use the U-Turn.  Kisha & Jenn were the most vocal about absolutely using the U-Turn.  Thats why they think they did it.  And even Kisha & Jen talk about the fact that because of the position they are in they didn't need to use the U-Turn (very smart move).

And actually it was a very smart move, if you are going to use it.

When Margie & Luke had left the wood stacking tasks only three teams were left.  Tammy & Victor who were very nearly done. Jaime & Cara who were having to rebuild and Amanda & Kris who were rebuilding.  They have no idea of Mel & Mike (for all they know they could be done).  THey would obviously assume that Kisha & Jen, Christie & Jodi and Mark & Michael have already finished.

So in their eyes they should be team number 5 at that point.  Leaving three teams behind them.  If you are going to use the U-turn, who do you then U-Turn?  Tammy & Victor who are just behind you?  Nope, while it certainly wouldn't hurt to give this team another task to do, but it looks like both Jaime & Cara and Amanda & Kris are further behind then what think the other task would take.  That leaves 2 teams.  Amanda & Kris or Jaime & Cara.  By the state of their stacks Amanda & Kris were in last at this point, so its logical to hit them without any other factors being taken.  When you add that so far out of the three legs Amanda & Kris have performed stronger in all three legs then Jaime & Cara is a huge, huge reason to use it against them.  Then add in the factor that they like this team (Jaime & Cara), they are part of a lose alliance (with Tammy & Victor as well).

Yeah that pretty much makes the perfect case to actually use the U-Turn.  Consider the other uses of the Yield and the U-Turn, this is one of the smartest.  I would rank it with Chip & Kim Yielding Colin & Christie, Lake & Michelle yielding Dani & Danielle and Oswald & Danny Yielding Eric & Danielle as the four smartest uses of the Yield or U-Turn.

I have to agree, Mswood.  When I realized that Margie & Luke were going to U-Turn Amanda & Kris, I could see why.  Margie & Luke were in a loose alliance with Tammy & Victor and were closely aligned with Jamie & Cara, so those teams were out.  Of the teams that weren't aligned with Margie & Luke, three were most likely assumed to be already gone (and Margie & Luke had no way of knowing Mark & Michael switched Detours), and Mel & Mike could've finished the other Detour and in any case weren't a strong team.  That left only one team -- Amanda & Kris.

exactly, the decision to use the U-turn wasn't evil it was smart, most are arguing that they shouldn't have used the u-turn because of no advantage gained, no personal vendettas and or because it's cheating, but I just think that it's one of the best strategies ever implemented on TAR, and as I stated in another thread, it was a really good investment on their part, and besides, they have a small protection against their karma: the team they u-turned is out, nobody sees them as a threat, and they have one third of the remaining teams in their alliance, so it's not like they sprouted targets on their backs like BJ & Tyler or Dustin & Kandice

Well it was a smart choice, but I do hate those aspects of the show.  I always treat the Amazing Race, as a first and foremost a RACE.  In track and field you don't create things were other racers can cause you direct harm.  You sink or swim solely on your own ability and random luck.

But it is part of the race, and since it is there, I can't fault teams for using it wisely.  I do fault them when the use it illogically.  ANd I hate it when teams can't admit it (not necessarily to the other racers), but in their interviews to the audience.
