BVM:"We shot in the city of Krasnoyarsk and the city of Novosibirsk," said "Amazing Race" executive producer Bertram van Munster. "The teams get from one city to another via the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Of course, it started off nice, but we got into this Siberian snowstorm with below-zero temperatures, which we weren't used to. It was pretty exciting.

I don't know any more than anyone else who has specaulated in this thread. However, I will give you my best judgment (and Siberia is one of the places I have never been to although I am a student of the TransSiberian Railroad). I think the analogy is to matchsticks and the items are the small logs that have to be stacked in one of the DETOURs.

I finally got over my laziness to register and post... So, I was wondering about the numbers they have to wear when they do the streaking run do you think they have any importance, such as placing at the time of the roadblock? from the ones i have seen they are numbered up to 7 (amount of teams left) jen 006 jaime (or cara?) with what appears to be 002 and jodi with 007, can't make out what luke's number is (looks like the letter "f" to me...) or do you think that they are just random?

Probably, out of the two reality shows on at 8pm, we do have a larger male audience then Extreme makeover, So I can see them pushing the ladies.
I noticed and laughed at this as well... if Amanda/Kris had made it then they might have footage of Kris running around in his skivvies which would have improved ratings too... Personally, I can't wait to see if it's Mel or Mike that does this task - should be silly either way. I think it will be Mike since they've been alternating roadblocks and it's Mike's turn PLUS Mel wouldn't want to run if his groin is still bothering him. The things people do for a million dollars! :lol:

This would just be amazing. Christie/Jodi would end up in Phuket then, assuming that Kisha/Jen are next because of the laughing at Preston thing. Unless they decided to have 6 teams in sequester this time around... which isn't necessary impossible because eliminated teams are sequestered in Thailand, and they'll be there in 3 legs time.

I agree, hard to call. There may be bonding at the pit stops, or during the race that we don't get to see. Some of those flights and airport delays could allow a lot of interaction.

I think that, barring no surprises, Kisha & Jen will either be eliminated in this episode or the next. And it's for one reason that really sticks out to me after re-watching the third episode.
Prior to the previews of the about-to-start episode and the subsequent opening sequence, Phil briefly mentions and talks about six of the teams -- Margie & Luke, Jaime & Cara, Mel & Mike, Mark & Michael, Christie & Jodi, and Tammy & Victor. At the time, there were nine teams left, and Brad & Victoria, Amanda & Kris, and Kisha & Jen went without any special mention from Phil.
My thoughts about this? Those six teams Phil mentioned will be the F6, and that Kisha & Jen, the last of the three teams who went without a special mention will be eliminated in the F7, just as Brad & Victoria and Amanda & Kris were over the last two episodes.
Just a thought, but it's one that's been eating at me for two days now.

I am going to go out on a limb and say the same thing. Maybe Mark & Michael or Mel & Michael go for it. Hence why there are no shots of either team participating in the race. I have a question. If the start line and the finish line is the same place, why is Margie riding off in a cab? I was all for the single START/FINISH line scenario with the tents for warming and changing clothes. But that pic of Margie in the cab makes me think that there is a START line and a different located FINISH line. I think Margie is taking Luke's clothes to the finish line.
I think the pictures of Luke (just above) are at the finish line and the pictures of Jen (page 1) are at the start line. There is also a building behind Luke and there is nothing behind Jen but blue sky and a park. I am talking about a building that is perpendicular to the building with the blue portico that is behind Luke.
The warming/changeing tents are located at different places. In Jen's pictures, the tents are in FRONT of a blue portico. The portico has two levels of steps from the street level to the door level. In Luke's pictures, the tents are BESIDE the blue protico. This portico has no steps and is at street level.

If you look at Reply #12 slide 3 you see the building entrance in the back and brown changing tents to the right, and the race asst. putting on the number vest. So this is the start. In reply #14 silde 1 you see the entrance in the back with brown tents in front. So it looks like Luke is just starting the race, (SHY then WHAT THE HELL) In reply #81 slide 1 you have the start sign with ballons forming an arch. Look behind the side crowd you can see another sign (look hard) green and white lettering and another ballon arch of balloons, so this could be the finish . Lukes mom is following Luke in the taxi in case she needs to SIGN for him. See van with door open must be camera car. Again this is my thoughts :duno: DrRox the tents are the same place it's the camera angles that make them look different.

My running thoughts ...
The numbers are the order in which teams hit the starting gate. I suspect we will have a bunch point before the Roadblock where teams must pull numbers for their starting order. The runners will leave the starting line at set intervals (e.g., 2 minutes apart), thus having the opportunity to pass runners and improve their placing.
I thought that seeing Margie in a car meant different start and finish lines. But Uncle Bill's thought of Margie being available for Luke's communication makes sense. We need more video evidence.
A 2-3 mile run would be tough for any non-runner. I would be surprised if the run was that long.

So now we have a tie-in with the long view of the bridge in the previews. What they do in this school bus minibus (marshrutka) parking lot is anyone's guess. :lol:

He is driving a bobcat of some what with a convyer belt on the side and he has to follow the lines of tires and they are scooped up on the belt and onto a truck or something the bottom of the conver belt you can see the form of a scoop. It looks like they have to scoop up the tires. Just like we do to collect hay and it gets baled. You can see the other rows of tires

I think its a snow melter - normally it picks up snow in the front and feeds it to a boiler in the back that melts it - then the snow goes down the storm sewers. Hopefully they're not melting tires...

Following up on my earlier post, I think the running Roadblock has the same start/finish line. Thanks puddin for the video evidence.
Sorry about that. Once I posted and reviewed the picture, I now have a different take on this vidcap. Now I think this group is cheering the stick shift event.
But this appears to be Mike cheering, and in the other shots, he is the one in the big machine with Mark yelling at him (with no crowds cheering). Besides, the running task appears to be the roadblock which means the other task(s) would be a detour in which case both Mike & Mark would be working on it. My guess is that this shot is Mike cheering on Mark on the running roadblock.
The shots of Margie/Luke, Tammy/Victor do appear to be in a car (the stick shift detour?) so maybe the shot of Mike/Mark in whatever machine that is with the tires is either the other detour or a Fast Forward!!

I think you got your legs mixed up. Lori & Bolo's Fast Forward was on an elimination leg -- the one that claimed Gus & Hera. Hayden & Aaron were saved on the leg of Adam & Rebecca's Fast Forward -- the one with the walking in the scuba diving suit thing.

I quite have to disagree with this being a TBC leg... (Hoping for an extra episode, making India an uberleg... hehehe) :jumpy:
The route map shown with 11 pitstops and a finish in Maui? Not unless they consider the midpoint (LIKE IN TARA2) a pitstop, The fifth pitstop is really scheduled being in Novosibirsk then the rest in Asia.
Next, BvM and the producers LOVE meddling teams in India, especially with the Speedbump. It creates so much drama. I guess the Speedbump would be there in India again.
I also don't think that the Fast Forward would show in this leg at all, Having three legs in China :wohoo:, I believe that we'll all see the U-TURN, SPEED BUMP and the "ONE and ONLY" AIRED FAST FORWARD there. When I saw Christie running in the roadblock, her number says that she's seven... how could she be in seventh when there can only be six teams running if one goes for the fast forward?
And I think Karma's starting to bite Margie/Luke's ass because of their U-TURN just as shown in the previews. :ascared They're sourgraping that T/V left them in thin air, yet they initiated the whole blind u-turn thing, obviously getting target at their backs because they themselves announced that they U-TURNED Amanda and Kris. They also said it in the start of the episode - its for one million dollars. I also don't get their logic of u-turning someone, already being anonymous, and then announcing it to the whole cast.
That's my note. We'll just have to see it more on Sunday (for you guys - I catch it Monday mornings in SE Asia - and this week, I couldn't watch it via satellite because of exams... :'( :'( :'(, considerably waking up early just to watch the episode)

The shot of Michael (w/ Mark) in the machine with the tires does actually look like there are "lanes" - so maybe the task is maneuvering that beast through a track.
I'm starting to doubt my theory that the images of Margie/Luke and Tammy/Victor in the cars are a detour because Margie appears to be asking someone for directions. So unless that's part of the detour, I'm not sure, but I doubt it. The episode descriptions say "A car's stick shift gets the best of one duo on the icy Siberian streets." and "Slippery streets and a stick shift nearly slide one team out of the race." - and that does not necessarily mean it is a detour, just someone having difficulty driving.
So my guess is Roadblock: Running in skivvies Detours: Drive giant machine through course or.... ? something we haven't seen - maybe dancing ballet!!! ;)
I'm also guessing the roadblock is first ONLY because Cara/Jaime look really put together as they open the clue.
The other thing unaccounted for is "One team goes for the fun-will their party priorities pay off?" That is the only thing that seems like it would be a FF. The only shots of Mike/Mel are Mike teasing Luke on the train and of Mike rubbing his face with 'worry' in the backseat of a car.
Any guesses if the police sirens at the end of that one commercial are in part of the episode somewhere?

2 legs in 2 days is easy to accomplish from Phuket to Bangkok even if no TBC is involved. The length of all tasks on a leg combined only rarely exceeds about 4 hours. Flying takes 1 hour 25 minutes plus the airport time on both ends (less than 2 hours total). That leaves time for a 12 hour pit stop and about 4.5 hours left over.

If we assume they travel by train from Krasnojarsk to Novosibirsk - 12 hours - it gives the racers a very short pit stop in Krasnojarsk - about 8 hours with 12 hours to sleep on the train and provide insights into Luke's psyche. It appeared to me that leg 4 ended rather later in the day - 4pm ish.
We know Mel and Mike and Marge and Luke (marathon racer # 1) are on the same train. Note that they have sleeping berths. (screen caps on page 1) and that outside of the train its daylight . So I guess Dep. Krasnojarsk 23:36 Arr. Novosibirsk 12:38 (train sched from apskips timeline)
Another possibility is Dep. Krasnojarsk 18:26 Arr. Novosibirsk 06:47, but if that were the case they would never see daylight outside the train (Kras. November 9 sunrise 8:14 AM KRAT sunset 4:52 PM KRAT and Novo November 10 Sunrise 7:51 AM NOVT sunset 4:34 PM NOVT ) and it would give only 2 hours of pit stop.
Are all racers are on the same train? I think some of them got on the earlier train because...
Wunderground tells me that on Nov 10: Clear and some overcast from 6am to10:30 am Light snow started 1pm Heavy snow around 3 Temps were around -7 to -9 eeek! Too cold to run around in your underwear.
The picture of Tammy (racer # 3) and Jenn (racer # 6) is in sunlight - with a low angle from the south east (I think) so morning sometime between 7:51 to 10:30. Christie (racer # 7) is running in snow - no sunlight - so after 1pm
This could all be entirely wrong if I have the date incorrect - but November 11 had snow all day with no clear periods - maybe its the anticipated Siberian blizzard!

Somewhere recently there was some statement about Phil's Video Diaries and what they mean for the number of episodes. I can without reservation answer that question with "They mean absolutely nothing." The reason is that there was one video diary for each episode for 1 to 4, but there were 2 for episode 5. That does not mean that the Musical Comedy theatre demo was in Episode 6, it only means that there that it was the second Diary for episode 5. People can question 12 legs (a number of you did for a while although few recently), but that is fruitless. There are 12 legs, so get used to it.

Victor is turning right off Krasnyy onto Frunze when the caps were taken (Premier computer shop and Avelon beauty products). If he's on his way to the snowplow task (seems likely), then ditching the others is kind of pointless because he's only a couple of blocks away.

It's possible that either Christie or Jodi might have the stick shift problem after all and get the last-place non-elimination -- or maybe they have the problems before the Roadblock but are saved from non-elimination by Mark & Michael getting lost. In either case, I still think LaKisha & Jen are going home next week.

Thanks Puddin. Those are some pretty beautiful pictures. About the 20th one, I dawned on me that gelio is a crane operator with a camera.
Pity the people with dial up :lol:! I think the Mall photo was on page 17?

I too remember one fast forward for this race, but now can't remember where that came from.
Oh nice puddin!! I tried to get in there last night, and fell asleep looking, :funny:
So my ballet is either the Pitstop or a pick up the clue, making me also agree that the FF seems unlikely this week.
Have to say, cold or not, I am NOT too fond of inside PitStops...
Can't wait for TRAINS though!! :happy:

Can someone pull this? Not sure I have seen it....
It's Michael cheering so I assume Mark is the marathoner
To try and figure out which stuntman is pictured above, I went to the CBS web site (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race/bio/mark_and_michael_14/bio.php?season=14). I think it is the brother on the left, Mark. Anyone have a good way to tell them apart?

That's Michael. For me, he's the older and heftier one.

Well, from that promo, it looks like Jaime & Cara's mostly good edit (up to now) is going down the tubes, thanks to Jaime.
Unless you were there Ashe how can you know what went down? Again, its easy to sit at home and judge the racers when really we don't know! The editors can edit a racer anyway they chose, its out of the racers hands and we know this right!? Obviously those snowplow guys were told NOT to help the racers, and we know that from past races right? I do! Wouldn't you be frustrated if in the heat of the race you couldn't get a simple answer? Jamie is NOT really this crazy, mean redheaded woman, editing just makes her appear this way :meow: If anything Victor is getting the prick edit and again why the editors chose to edit the racers this way only they know and I don't agree with their ways :knuckles:

I find it very difficult to understand how in a cosmopolitan city of 1.5 million there is not one single blogger with a camera. Worse than Portland... (:;)
None of those university students spoiled anything for us - maybe that's part of the reason BVM keeps going to Russia - "don't talk about the Amazing Race or you go to gulag"

Mark/Mike have different "noses." Hard to tell them apart with all the clothes on in Siberia, but the noses are in view. Mike has a Roman nose and Mark has a Bob Hope nose.

Yeah, I really am disappointed with CBS.com. They used to make sure the teams' names were in the right order, and that they were pictured in the right order. But since TAR12, it's like they don't even try most of the time.

Yeah, I really am disappointed with CBS.com. They used to make sure the teams' names were in the right order, and that they were pictured in the right order. But since TAR12, it's like they don't even try most of the time.
Well, after somewhat not caring about the site's aesthetic value for some time, it doesn't surprise me at all.

Victor's shot looks hilarious. I'm assuming that's already by the Opera & Ballet theatre. Although if he jogged with her for a few more meters before that, I am thinking either that (a) he's very supportive, or (b) he's barking at Tammy to go faster. :lol:

-4 degrees Centrigrade is equivalent to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. They got a decent late fall day on November 9 in Novosibirsk to run that "1.4 mile marathon." I bet they expected lower temperatures and kept the course that short to combat hypothermia.

Here is the train schedule weekdays from Krasnoyarsk to Novosibirsk:
Does anybody see a 22:28 departure.? There could have been one despite that and it could arrive Novosibirsk around 1130am. It is clear that there is plenty of daylight available and sunset on Nov. 9, 2008 was at 435pm. That means that the ROADBLOCK was completed for all teams well before 4pm.

I will guess that if one occurred, it was during the night on the TransSiberianExpress or on the following day (didn't the weather information we have say November 10th for snow in Novosibirsk?). And maybe it was just the usual hyperbole from Bertram van Munster.

Was it November 9?
I think November 10 in Novo? The weather for Nov. 9 was much warmer 2 to 3 degrees C.

Another exciting episode! I loved it! Just like I thought, with Amanda & Kris gone and only interesting teams left, this is a great race we have going for us! So tense and action-packed!
Margie & Luke: A well-earned first-place finish! I'm glad they rallied from getting ditched by their erstwhile allies, and I'm glad they did well at the Detour! Luke really cleaned up at the Roadblock, and I'm happy they notched their second win! It seems all they've done is finish first or fourth so far.
Tammy & Victor: Ladies and gentlemen, we have our villain (or villain team). I understand their need to race on their own, and it's a good strategy, for the most part, to use others as long as you need them before then tossing them aside, but there was something about the way they went about ditching Margie & Luke and Jaime & Cara that sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know why, but it did. That said, good job on both of their parts at the Detour and nice running from Tammy at the Roadblock (though that was more due to Cara walking rather than running).
Jaime & Cara: Highest finish ever, ladies! Congratulations! Jaime's panic over non-English-speaking snowplow guys made me cringe a bit, but she got it together and did well enough at the Detour with Cara. I think they could've nailed second place had either Jaime done the Roadblock, or had Cara at least grasped the concept of RUNNING! Especially in the cold! Still, third place is not too shabby, so great job, girls! (But I hope the preview of that cab driving away with whatever bag you're talking isn't a harbinger of doom for you.)
Mel & Mike: Not much of you guys this week, but you seemed to do a solid enough job with the Russian Bride Detour. They did seem to get lost a lot, though.
Mark & Michael: Been awhile since they ran a good leg. Good work on the Detour and nice job on Mark's part with the Roadblock. But not much of them this week.
Kisha & Jen: If you come on TAR, ladies, always be prepared in case you have to drive stick at one point. Looking at YOU, Jen! That alone dropped them so far back (though getting lost a lot didn't help matters, nor did Kisha leading them away from where everyone else was getting cabs), they almost got last! They'd better be thankful for Christie & Jodi's unreliable local guide.
Christie & Jodi: Certainly a tough week for you, girls. You got lost quite a bit, found a local to help you with the Russian Bride Detour, had said local prove how unreliable he was by leading you to the wrong church entirely, and basically landed in last place because of it. Because I blame that local more than I blame you two, I'm glad you got a reprieve. But since you're going to India next week, I really hope you can overcome that Speed Bump.
The tasks were good, and I did love that the teams had to rely on their own wits in self-navigation. That seemed to determine the placings on this leg. Oh, and for the Detour, I'd have done Russian Snowplow. As we saw with Russian Bride, that was definitely the harder one, due to the extra bit of self-navigation.
Great episode! Can't wait for next week!

This TAR season battles it out with Tocantins as having all likeable cast. :)
This episode makes sense with what Christie & Jodi said when they won the last leg. I was suspecting it.

I want to comment on the supposition that this was not a 12 hour pit stop. According to my best judgment, it was a 24 hour pit stop. Christi/Jodi and Kisha/Jennifer would have arrived at 540am , then waited at the dam until 830am, then gone a substantial distance and about 45 minutes back into Krasnoyarsk(as a city of about 1 million population distances between tasks will not be trivial). The wood stacking looked like to took about 1.5 hours for them, then assume 30 minutes for tranportation to Bobrovy Log Park. That ROADBLOCK did not appear to take more than 15 minutes for those two teams. Then maybe 30 minutes to the Musical Comedy Theatre. That puts them there around 1230pm and their release at 1234pm and 1236pm requires a 24 hour pitstop.

In Christie & Jodi's mat chat with Phil .. they stated the driver took them about 20 minutes out to the wrong church because he thought it was pretty then said in total they wasted an hour because of the driver.

The Church of Archangel Michael is about 10.5 miles away from Komsomolskaya St, going in the completely wrong direction, I think.
It's only about 0.7 miles from the car pick-up to the brides' apartment, though.

Margie and Luke - Hurray for another first place finish! Loved Luke's expression when they got ditched by Tammy and Victor, it was really cute. And I love how he always rolls his eyes when Margie's talking, it's really funny lol.
Tammy and Victor - Hmm, so they ditched their "allies". But I don't know if it's indeed considered a betrayal, seeing that they weren't really allied with Margie/Luke and Cara/Jaime in the first place?
Jaime and Cara - Their best finish yet, well done! Would love to see them win a leg soon, and love their alliance with Margie and Luke.
Mel and Mike - It's certainly apt that the bunching let the last become first and first become last. Lol at Mike for wanting to pretend to limp so that Margie and Luke won't U-turn them.
Mark and Michael - I was laughing when they ran past Phil, Phil snapped his fingers, and they still didn't realise. LOL!
Kisha and Jen - Not much from them, am glad they're working well together though. No more bickering. =)
Christie and Jodi - That was some bad luck, getting a clueless local. Thankfully it's an NEL and I really hope they won't get screwed by the Speed Bump next leg. Yeah, hope they really race well by being at the back of the pack.
