I heard a TAR radio commercial in the car today (I rarely hear those), and it sounded like Dandrew complaining about no cab money.

That sounds like, a Nick quote. Or Andrew and Dan, which would suck. :meow:

I can't really imagine Sarah or Tina telling that to their partners.

Possibly, Starr? :groan:

Hi. I am from Singapore too!  Maybe it is Starr telling/talking about Dallas about how studly he is.

It sounds like a Dan or Andrew quote about something they did. But I think it's Dallas telling his mom about how awesome he was at the roadblock task.

I say this is said by either Starr or Toni to Dallas. Then again, Sarah could also say it to her not so studly girl, I mean boy, friend.

Those clothes that Nick & Starr are wearing aren't the ones from the video. I'm assuming they are 1st in the 10th leg of the race, and i'm also assuming this is the non-elimination leg.

We know they are first in the 10th leg...  ;)

the video was shot on the 13th and the finale is on the 14th.

Bronnitsy - 30
Kolomna - 80
Ryazan' - 155

Just decided to delurk because I have recently developed a fondness for the Cyrillic alphabet. Anyways, I checked on Google Maps and those three towns/cities are accessible mainly by M-5. Also, Google Maps "estimated" travel distance between the heart of Moscow and Bronnitsy to be 60 km, so that picture was taken when they were maybe somewhere in the middle of those two towns/cities, and they were going in a direction away from Moscow.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

Looks like Nick is doing the flour bags after Dallas and Ken.

Check the screen caps and it looks like Ken is putting bags against a wall.  Scroll down and Nick is putting the bags across from the window and wall that it seems Dallas and Ken used.

Next on The Amazing Race:
That is Studly
*One racer's awkward attempt to fall in line leaves Russia's military laughing.
*One team's expensive purchase comes back to haunt them when an unpaid taxi driver stands in their way to the Pit Stop.
*A romance grows stronger between two racers — will competition cause a rift in their relationship?
*One racer's frustration with a taxi driver causes them to ditch the taxi too early — will this mistake end their race?

Clue #1:  Clearly either Andrew or Dan.  Only they can leave Russia's military laughing!   :funny:

Clue #2:  No idea.

Clue #3:  Dallas and Starr, obviously.

Clue #4:  My guess is it's Nick & Starr.

Obviously Dan.

*One team's expensive purchase comes back to haunt them when an unpaid taxi driver stands in their way to the Pit Stop.
Ken and Tina? I could see her deciding to buy something she thinks will come in handy despite the cost. Since this is NEL, does it matter?

*A romance grows stronger between two racers — will competition cause a rift in their relationship?
And perhaps more obviously Dallas and Starr

*One racer's frustration with a taxi driver causes them to ditch the taxi too early — will this mistake end their race?
Starr. She couldn't trust her truck driver in Cambodia.

We were never certain where this confessional by Nick took place but now it looks like it fits in here, especially with the clue below and the flour on Nick shirt.

eta: And it might be in the botanical gardens in Moscow but am still unsure?

*A romance grows stronger between two racers — will competition cause a rift in their relationship?

Nick conf: I think the budding romance between Dallas and Starr is kind of cute, shes my baby sister .

On Dandrews shoes, they don't say on the insider clips that they don't have them. The big deal I think TPTB were trying to point out to us is that they wore the cow-boots and that slowed them down when they had to go back and walk back to the pitstop. Time will tell I guess?

So it appears the preview is in the correct order.  They arrive at the airport and proceed to the monastery for their first clue.  They travel along Tverskaya Street, past the State Historical Museum to the south east side of Moscow where the monastery is located.  From there they go on to boot camp and the flour thingie.   :snicker:  Pitstop location yet unknown has been found!    ;)

They gave us this for a reason...

So maybe the village we can't get is on the way? Travel by taxi to (phonetics here) Klaus Cannon? near the village of Tenner--neska??

A taxi driver stands in the way of the Pitstop

That would be along the M-5 SE of Moscow...

I do keep getting panoramio pics of a military camp east of Bronnitsy--do we already have that place ? ???

Hmm, if the press release says that one team spends too much money and another Racer has an awkward attempt at falling in line then the first team is probably not Andrew & Dan since one of the Frat Boys are going to leave the Russian military laughing.  But I'm not taking that prediction to the bank.

Yes, but to my eyes it is not a match. Look lower right end of first building on the left. The extra row of window slits in there is not on the master version. I am not suggesting that that isn't Tverskaya St. but I am stating that that block is not the match.

The garden's address is 30 Leninsky Prospect and its administration's telephone numbers are 159-3422, 236-1462. The nearest metro station is Leninsky Prospekt - exit the metro toward the Spartak sports store and walk just five minutes. As an alternative, you can ride the metro to station Oktyabrskaya (ring line) and go several stops by bus #111 or 196 or trolleybus #4, 33 or 62.

The garden owes its name, ‘Neskuchny,' to the Demidov's family estate. The estate once belonged to Count Orlov, who went down in history as Catherine the Great's not-so-secret lover. He then bequest it to his niece, the daughter of Gen. Alexei Orlov-Chesmensky, whom records also name as Catherine the Great's lover.

Before the 1917 revolution, Neskuchny Garden belonged to the tsar's family. Back then, there were greenhouses and farms. Quite a few of the park's structures have been preserved, specifically the Summer House on the Moscow River's steep bank, several bridges and grottos, and ‘Nizhnyaya Vanna,' a small mansion with rotunda standing on the bank of the Yelizaveta Pond.

This rotunda was erected

in honor of the 800th anniversary of Moscow's founding and the victories of Russian and Soviet troops. It was built on the place once occupied by

the Hermitage Palace.

Near the park's entrance, there are several outdoor tennis courts and ping-pong tables, and in the evenings, the area is taken over by chess players. Time flies in Neskuchny, especially if the weather is fine and you're having fun.

Inside the park, there is one of the world's famous mineralogical museums — the Fersman Museum of Minerals. Its address is 18 Leninsky Prospekt, Bldg. 2 and its administration's telephone numbers are 954-1859 and 954-3900. The museum is open daily, except Monday and Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum's collections include over 135,000 exhibits from all over the world — crystals, precious stones, meteorites and artworks of ancient and modern craftsmen.

Another interesting feature of Neskuchny Sad is its ‘Vesyolaya Arena' (‘Merry Arena') circus, tel. 954-7275. Tickets cost 40 rubles. Currently showing is the ‘French Gypsies' program with acrobats, clowns, bears, horses, dogs and monkeys. The program runs 135 min.

Not far from the circus, there is a horse stable. It is open daily, except Monday, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., tel. 958-5255, and offers horseback riding for 250 rubles per hour.

In addition to being a popular place for strolling and entertainment, Neskuchny Sad has become a hangout for the city's teenager association of Tolkienists — fans of famous British writer J.R.R. Tolkien. They turned part of the park into ‘Eglador,' the fancy world featured in Tolkien's novels, and organize real knight tournaments there - though using wooden swords. They chose Neskuchny for one simple reason — it is the only forest-park in the center of Moscow.

Going down Pushkinskaya Nab. from Neskuchny, you can quickly reach Gorky Park. On the way, you can visit the Green Theater and climb the fancily decorated Novoandreyevsky bridge.

If car exhaust and factory smoke are doing your lungs damage, take a stroll in the clean, relaxing atmosphere of Neskuchny Sad. Literally translated as ‘Non-boring Garden, this lush of green is also a great place for romantic walks. Around its shady groves, beautiful flowerbeds and pedestrian alleys are comfortable benches where you can take a rest and cuddle. Established in the 1840s by a merger of the estates of Russia's three famous noble families, Golitsyn, Demidov and Trubetskoi, the place has lived up to its name.

Behind the wall in the distance looks to me like a not very high mountain with large empty areas. Are they a lake? Given the tilted vertical orientation of that space, I conclude that it is not a lake. Unfortunately, I cannot identify what is is.

One concept that has occurred to me is that they look like ski slopes. Since it was early May, the chances of that being snow are small but maybe it is bare ski trails.

Episode Detail: That Is Studly - Amazing Race 13
*The teams travel from Almaty, Kazakhstan, to Moscow on the ninth leg of the race.
*Once there, the pairs must learn to march with Russian soldiers.
*One duo make an expensive purchase that leaves them unable to pay their cabdriver, who blocks their way to the pit stop.

I wonder if the marching with soldiers isn't just a task to get the next clue? We sure are missing detour footage if so :knuckles:

Ken has his own on:

So does this mean that  N/S were there well before (or well after) Ken/Tina and used their outfit? We don't actually see them there together, right?

Or were there two outfits that said Ken/Tina? ???

Most genealogist use this website to find names of their ancestor's village which could be very difficult to read in old records.

I used Tenemeska and came up with Domninskiye which is 75.7 miles S of Moscow.

Using tenerneska puts you out in the ocean.  Domininskiye may not be right but you could try different spelling or just a few of the first letters.  Maps are mostly in Russian.

For lack of something to do..........

Russian tourists salute army boot camp

Russians seeking an unusual two-day break can now go to an army boot camp to be barked at, bullied and subjected to gruelling physical exercises.
A tour operator in the central Russian region of Yaroslavl is arranging the trips for those with 3,000 roubles (about $100) to spare.

Battle-hardened veterans from the ongoing war in Chechnya are among the soldiers who are putting the "48-hour recruits" through their paces.

According to a report by Moscow's REN TV, the Chechnya veterans "say they have lots of experience and are happy to share it".

Among those who have signed up for the experience are students, businessmen and managers. The tour operator is convinced that demand will soon outstrip supply.

The TV reporter notes: "Russians are fond of extreme tourism."

Knuckling down

Army life begins as soon as they enter the military camp. An instructor reads the camp rules and the new recruits are given 20 minutes to change into fatigues.

They take a military oath which "sounds like a complete relinquishment of all civil rights", notes the TV correspondent, adding that "bullying is provided on request".

One instructor tells the newcomers: "Violations are punished in an easy and simple way. For any violation of discipline, you will get 50 press-ups on your knuckles."

Lacking home comforts
"So when an order comes to run, everybody copes with it very well," says the correspondent.

Nor are any concessions made for sustenance. Fish and potato soup for the first course, followed by porridge from a military field kitchen.

Among the more interesting experiences on offer over the two days are participation in special reconnaissance missions and familiarisation sessions on armoured personnel carriers and military helicopters.

Chechen war veteran Alexander Dorobikov says part of the course is modelled on the training of the Russian special services.

But for some, even two days in the army is too much, and they talk about going AWOL (absent without leave).

Andrei, a student, says: "Everything is all right while you are filming, but afterwards... People are difficult here."

However, Alexei, a manager who has already served an army stint, is enjoying himself.

"The mess tins are the same, but the spoons and cups are different. Meals are excellent. Just what you need in the army."

Role reversal

The director of the travel company organising the tours, Denis Demin of Armiya Tur (Army Tour) believes they satisfy a number of different needs.

Not quite the latest fashion
"Young people who have not served in the army get to receive an impression of it. Businessmen who are in their 30s and 40s and who are used to leading people are interested in having somebody to command them for a change. They are tired of being constantly in charge," he says.

Military instructors are currently developing a longer programme, the TV report concludes.

"Very soon interested parties will be able to pay an extra fee to be bullied and to be forced to follow army orders unquestioningly."

I remember hearing a commercial on the radio for TAR7 and it was for sure Ucheena & Joyce yelling "We won!" and  "we're millionaires" or something like that but still my votes went for Romber, I was so deaf and blind I refused to believe they lost, lol

Sorry I messed up and the above link doesn't work.

Is it possible they used a train to get someplace.  Matt's pictures presented in slides has a train engine.  I felt the name Nick is trying to say sounded like it started with the sound of tenor.  I come up with a railroad station 5.9 miles NNW of Moskva

Going to the ShtetlSeeker at jewishgen.org I did some playing around and found:
Timiryazevskaya, Platforma
Timiryazeva, Raz”yezd
Timiryazeva, Raz”yezd
Timiryazevo, Stantsiya
Timiryazevo, Ostanovochnyy
Punkt Timiryazevskaya.
These are various forms of Timiryazevskiy

ETA:  FORGET ALL OF THIS.  M5 IS SSE.  WHY WOULD THEY BE GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS.  ALSO DOMININSKIYE IS NEAR M2.  After I typed all of this I saw how wrong it was.  I read where the "Bootcamp" was in a forest outside of Moscow I thought maybe they went there by train.  Then I saw the picture of a train.

That "Tenor" something has been bugging me.

See that the flour bags are already piled up to the bakery lady's right.  That was where Ken was placing his bags.

From the preview, Dallas stacked his flour sacks near the lady to her right and Ken was farther away from her, but on the same side of the room. You can't see his stack. Ken's stack is in the extreme camera foreground on the left, underneath the camera lens. Similiar to the two boxes on the right. DanDrew's "box" is still empty. Their box is the empty one in front of Nick's.

I think DanDrew realize they are dead last at the roadblock and spend all their money on something, before going to the mat.

On pg 1 of thread 1st reply under Roadblock.  There is picture of Ken putting bags by the door and AC.  Just below his screen cap is Dallas (shorts) putting his bags also just inside the door.  I think maybe the lady is counting them.

When I posted message 25 of this thread I didn't realize there was a screen cap of both of them putting bags along the wall.  I also didn't notice the boxes drawn on the floor.  Good catch.  It does appear Dandrew hasn't done the bags by the time Nick got there.

The taped "box" is an old stagehand trick. If you have ever seen the stage in a theater when a production is going on....there are pieces of tape everywhere.
