LAX to Ireland July 8th-9th-10th

WAMgirl  posts at Twop's  (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=2666383&view=findpost&p=8663903) ,LAX, July 8th  (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=2666383&view=findpost&p=8681781) to Ireland
*We were at LAX this July going on our honeymoon, and we met a team from the upcoming season. The team consisted of a younger guy and his grandfather. They were headed to Ireland and were looking for guidebooks and people to exchange dollars for euros on a one to one ratio.
More from WAMgirl  here (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?s=efa1c91be1b970a26e1ff993520b6f11&showtopic=2666383&st=6195&p=8681781&#entry8681781).

*i was IMing the other night with a friend who actually WORKS at LAX airport, she was there when the Amazing Race teams passed through and she got a clear look at all of the teams from very close proximity.
*she said that most of the teams were "standard" (yawn) Amazing Race teams - the dating couples, MACTORS, etc,but the team that struck her eye the most, by far, was a team consisting of two GOTH girls  :snicker:  (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b105/rawalsh/TAR12/misc/25Sep0010.jpg) . she got a great look at them and said they were absolutely beautiful, but not in the standard "mactor" kind of way!

Could Belize be considered a "new country" as the starting point.  Teams could be flown directly there from various US airports without filming their departures.  Just showing teams arriving individually in Belize to start the race.  Or somewhere else, such as Mexico.  Lots of flights from many US airports direct to Mexico DF.

From the quick look at the promo - not too clear - but it certainly looks like the 11 teams are introduced while riding in similar looking convertible cars.  Back ground looks spanish colonial (Mexico?).  This leads credence to our theory that teams arrive overseas independently and are first introduced in a foreign - read Latin American - city.  If it is Belize the signs would be in English.  If Mexico or Peru, the signs would be in Spanish.  Can anyone read the background better?  Also looks like one of the first tasks has something to do with riding a burro somewhere. In Ireland it looks like teams will be riding bikes built for two.

Let's keep speculation about ep 1 here on this thread.  Move information we have about ep 1 on other threads (vidcaps, etc; location speculation) to this thread.

From what we now see in the promos, it looks like the 11 teams are driven through the streets of LA up to the Playboy Mansion where they meet Phil and get the get go about "The world awaits you, travel safe!"  They then pick up their bags, get the first clue to fly to Shannon Ireland.  Teams proceed to SUVs parked on the drive and proceed to the airport.

Smart move by TPTB!  Filming on the grounds of a private estate means that they did not need to have a filming permit.  But no record of a film permit for filming in the International Terminal at LA is a mystery.  We either were misled, had the dates wrong, or TPTB had a permit already in hand (an open ended permit issued much earlier?)

No G-man! We had no filming permit for the roads--no CHP's involvement.

I did have confirmation of the filming at LAX from LAX Ops.

From what I gather from the promo, the inaugural program for TAR12 will only be one hour.  That means not much time left for the trip to Ireland after all the mandatory team intros and bios. And briefing from Phil and trip to LAX.  Probably means only one task before race to first pit stop (something to do with donkeys?)  We won't be seeing much of Ireland in ep one; so maybe we get more in ep 2 before going on to Amsterdam.

Haven't most ep ones been 90 minutes or two hours in the past?

Has Michael D latched on to one of the dizzy blondes from LA yet?

Sorry, Peach, missed your news about filming permits at LAX when you first posted  back when.

Hope you can get the vidcaps over here, Puddin,so we can keep all the ep one stuff together.  Hey I knew you could.  Tanks.

Wow, looks like I will have to find a castle in Germany big enough for two wenches, now.

Looking at those vidcaps again - there seems to be an awful lot of activity going on in Ireland for just one hour.  Remember all the teams have to be introduced with hometown footage, etc.  Phil has to get them on their way, and they have to get to LAX and then on to Ireland.

Lots of stuff seems to be going on then in Ireland.  But schedule only gives one hour to ep no. one.

Could it be a TBC?  Wrap up Ireland, and perhaps jaunt over to Isle of Mann or Aran in ep no. 2?  Then on to Amsterdam.

So when can we start predicting order of elimination. We have enough info to say the final 6 for sure. Kate & Pat go out first. Jennifer & Nathan do get past 7th. Lorena & Jason is unkown, im pretty sure they make it to Croatia. There had been a post saying the F/F team were the opposite of Dustin & Kandice so im thinking Marianna & Julia. So Shana & Jennifer go out early as well as Ari & Saella.

Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Holland, Croatia - ALL 100% true. Burkina Faso? Alaska, Japan, Taipen = 100% true!
11th. Kate & Pat
10th. Shana & Jennifer
9th. Ari & Staella
8th. Jennifer & Nathan
7th. Lorena & Jason
6th. Nicholas & Donald
5th. Marianna & Julia
4th. Azaria & Hendekea
3rd. Ronald & Christina
2nd. Rachel & TK
1st. Kynt & Vyxsin

Also if we know where them two seated bikes come from then it would be so much easier to know order of elimination

Ireland.

Also in Ireland:  Donkey with baskets pull, lead, whatever. And riding bikes across high wire with partner on seat below bike. And pit stop by stone wall overlooking green countryside

Watched two long promos last night and the first episode "Donkeys Have Souls" is falling into place.  A lot of activity for one hour, so this may indeed be a TBC.  So far its looks like this:

Teams arrive at the Playboy Mansion in old vintage convertables.  Each team (11) has an into and short bio and a few choice words about how they are in the race to win, etc. etc. etc.  Phil gives them their final instructions, and after saying the traditional words" "the world awaits you, travel safe, go!)  Teams race to their backpacks.  Note that most teams have really caught on about  taking the bare minimum and keeping the backpacks small.  Good example: The Couple in Conflict(Nathan and Jennifer).  Bad example of not learning by experience and carrying much too much: The Gothics (Kynt and Vyxsin).  Teams run to a parked SUV (who is the sponsor this year?) and drive themselves to LAX.

Guess may be that the teams have two options on flights: one on Aer Lingus and another on British Air.  We have takeoffs for both airlines.

Upon arrival in Ireland (Shannon or Dublin?  Or some teams to each?)  Here they pick up a taxi to take them somewheres outside of the city.  Nice rural area, no buildings, no farms, cliffs, and sea.  Also lots of stone walls and dirt trails.

Here we see teams in three different activities:  Leading a donkey with loaded baskets along a dirt trail somewhere.

Riding a bicycle built for two along a country trail past stone walls.

At first I thought that all the teams had to do both these tasks, but in one scene we have one coulple on the bike passing another couple  pushing the donkey.  And on the other hand we have the Nathan and Jennifer doing both tasks.

So could this be a Detour? Ride or Lead?   Do Nathan and Jennifer start on one task and switch later to the other?

Finally, all teams seem to have to do a real douzy of a task:  Ride a bike on a high wire stretched over an ocean inlet while their partner is suspended on a seat hanging below!!!!!

The final pit stop seems to be on a terrace or some such area surrounded by a low stone wall with the green countryside stretching out to a distant hill.  We have shots of four teams seemingly happy to have arrived at the pit stop - jumping with joy and high fiveing (no belly bounces yet)  Teams arriving with afternoon sun upon them (although in July the sun is setting pretty late in Ireland): The Gothic couple, the Ministers, The Father and Daughter, and the African American couple.

Some other observations:  All teams are seen in Ireland dressed differently than when we first saw them in Los Angles.
The Couple in Conflict has changed clothes but in all three activities that we see they are now dressed the same; Jennifer starts off with a white windbreaker over a green shirt, but she takes it off and ties the jacket around her waist for the donkey and aerial bike stunt.  So this might show that the donkey and twin bike are not a detour but tasks that everyone has to do. Why would she take it off for the donkey stunt (hot), put it on for the twin bike ride, then take it off again for the high-wire act?  If that were the correct sequence.

The sun keeps going in and out and it looks like rain comes and goes (typical Irish weather) rain gear gets put on and taken off.  Perhaps Chateau will be able to deduce some time frames here when the sun is shining.

Shots of teams in the taxi must be Ireland since the cameraman is on the left and the driver on the right.

The ministers have the same tee shirts on during their confessional as they had on at the pit stop but different from what they had on in Los Angles.  The Gothic couple have different tee shirts on during their confessional than they had on at the pit stop and still different from those they were wearing in Los Angles.

One more scene places the teams in Ireland.  We have shot of one couple (I'll get everyone's names down some day) entering what looks like a typical bed and breakfast (note sign on door "Toilets"; elsewhere in Europe or rest of the world for that matter except in the U. S. such facilities are named WC or Water Closet) and greeting Azaria and Hendekea  who are already there.  Could this be an "overnight wait for tomorrow stop" or after the pit stop?  I want to go back and check their clothing with the LAX stuff.

And there is a shot of the Ronald in rain gear getting off a "ferry" or small inter-island ship.  He is wearing later the same rain jacket after completing the high-wire, death-defying bike ride. So do teams travel to an outlying island (Arran) before doing tasks, or is this something that comes later?

That's a quick rundown from what I have seen .  Again, it looks like an awful lot of stuff for one one-hour program.

Leg 1 = Kate & Pat may actually survive, i think Ari & Staella be elimnated as they were crying in the countryside at pit stop, Ronald & Christina finish  1st place.

jennifer & Nathan looked pretty stresed in the donkey ride though. If the countryside episode is Ireland, KAte & PAt get past it. I think Ireland is the first leg for sure

Yes mushpants I think you guys are going in the complete opposite direction, In one of the Pics from the intro flashes, Kate and Pat are at the pitstop and are so happy I dont think that Kate would look so happy and Pat to be smiling and laughing if eliminated unless they are weird?

I would like to make a statement of "Apskip's Law" - teams that appear in promos or screencaps devised by those wily Amazing Race editors as doing poorly NEVER get eliminated in that episode.

I have watched the Amazing Race for 11 seasons and this law has held up for all of them. The Amazing Race editors are masters of misdirection. If a team looks like they are about to go down, count on them to not get eliminated.

Unfortunately this law provides little guidance about which team does get eliminated, except that it is one of the usually several teams that is not portrayed in promos or screencaps as doing poorly.

I originally had Ari & Staella confused with Jenn & Nathan and yeah I see what you all mean with the "I love you" --shades of JVJ TAR 11.
I have all weekend to get the screencaps together so maybe we can figure something out from those.

Give CBEss some credit: last night between 8:00PM and 11:00PM they ran four, count 'em four, 20-second promos (that's a lot of promo time!)

Looking at them again, it is not clear where the scene of teams getting off the white boat (ferry?) with Ronald in the foreground with his rain parka on fits into this episode.  If is part of this ep, then it looks like the teams do make a trip to one of the outer islands for part of the time.  From what was spotted before on another thread, the teams may be going to the Isle of Aran (one of the greatest documentary films of all time was made there: "The Man of Aran") to rent bikes and donkies.

It is interesting to note the teams getting the most face time are: Ronald and Christina, Kynt and Vyxsin, Shana and Jennifer, Nathan and Jennifer, and Ari and Staella.

I am still not sure whether or not all 11 teams have to do both the Donkey and the Bike task.  Not being that familiar with the teams yet it is hard to spot who is who especially with different rain gear and clothing.  But it looks like these are the two Detour tasks (traditionally there is no Roadblock task in the first ep).  There are four teams doing both the Lead (Donkey) and Ride (Bike) task. Although it may be that Ari and Staella are seen doing both (they are having a bad time with the donkey on the brink of a cliff as Jason and Lorena ride by) and we have closeups of them on the bike.   So they may switch tasks.

It looks like a breakdown of two large groups, depending on flight?ferry?. Some of the caps with Donald (dirty face from loading the peat), the Hsus, etc., show bad weather (I know, the weather can change fast).

You can clearly see the RB set up behind the donkeys so RB then Donkeys where do the bikes come in?
Jenn & Nate on bikes then with the donkey. They have to ride the bikes to the RB?

I wonder if the high-wire, death-defying task is actually a ROADBLOCK?  or just a task all teams must perform.  I don't recall an actual Roadblock in any previous ep one.  Correct me, please if I am wrong.

I have isolated the other two tasks and the teams doing them:

(1) Ride the Bike: Nathan and Jennifer
                         Ari and Staella
                         Jason and Lorena
                         Kynth and Vyxsin

(2) Lead the Donkey: Nathan and Jennifer
                               Ari and Staella
                               Marianna and Julia
                               Azaria and Hendekea

                               Add also:

                               Kynt and Vyxsin
                               TK and Rachel

If this is indeed a DETOUR, then it looks like Nathan and Jennifer and Ari and Staella started off with the Donkey and then changed and tried the bike task.  But we now have Kynt and Vyxsin doing both tasks so it looks both Bike and Donkey tasks must be done by all teams.

And these two tasks must overlap since we see Jason and Lorena riding on the bike passing Ari and Staella pushing the Donkey up the trail.

Well the two ferries DRAíOCHT NA FARRAIGE and and the sister ship CEOL NA FARRAIGE (http://homepage.eircom.net/~galwayships/passenger_ships/island%20ferries%20ceol%20na%20farrage.html) are apparently custom jobs (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~marinedb/press.htm#wave3), so I doubt there's any lookalikes anywhere else in Ireland. So we're stuck with the Arans.

No dice this time, peach.  The Aran Islands are, as they say, in the "fuzzies" on Google Earth.  The low resolution images really don't help much.  Looks like the "Tar detectives" need to use some old fashion "elbow grease" to solve this.   :snicker:

Do I detect some "second thoughts" about Aran Islands?  Oh yee of little faith.  You're folding like a house of cards.   :lol3:  You got till the 4th, plenty of time to tie up the loose ends.  For me, I need a drink.     :jam:

puddin, coming out of Dubrovnik, there can be only 6 teams left unless a TBC was used (which I doubt in one of the first 6 legs). If all the teams in the top 2 categories make it, there are no slots left. Going into Taipei there are 4 teams left unless a TBC was used.

I have to correct myself.  Upon further review, it now appears that CBEss has done some fancy digital editing and added in the shot of Ari and Staella and their donkey into the background of Jason and Lorena riding their bike.  So the two tasks DO NOT OVERLAP.

The shot of Nathan and Jennifer embracing must come at some later time:  She has exchanged her green bandana for a red one.

Also in the BG of the teams loading up the donkeys, the structure in the background is part of the death-defying high-wire bike stunt, but  is it the landing area or the takeoff area?  It doesn't seem to match the area seen in shots of Nathan and Jennifer and the Goths landing.  But the clue box is there by gum.

The more I see the promos (five times last night) the more I am convinced that this visit to Ireland is going to be a two-day, TBC.  Too much to do, trip to Aran, three tasks, pit stop arrivals, team intros, arrival in Ireland, weather changes, etc. all crammed into 44 minutes of  air time

Of course BIG credits to our Amazing Detectives and everyone else that has helped pull this together!!  :jam:

Good work, wench of mine.  But you could also add the shot of the Aer Lingus plane taking off.  So it looks like speculation of two groups could be possible.  One on Aer Lingus, the other on British Air.

GMAN, I have had the belief that the most likely way to fly to Ireland was Aer Lingus and that the differentiation into two groups of teams would occur in connecting at Dublin airport to get the 1145 and 1300 flights from DUB to SNN. However, further reflection indicates to me that you are probably right and the "first" group went earlier on BA 278 departing LAX 1535 ariving LHR 0945 and connecting there to EI 375 departing LHR 1050 arriving SNN 1210. The main reason I came to this conclusion is that there are no other flights from DUB to SNN; it anything gets delayed over the Atlantic there could be serious problems. If things go wrong for the BA flight, there are still a 1630 and 2045 flight from LHR to SNN.

If teams arrive at 1210 or 1300 I guess since the sun did not set until 2200 they would have time to do all three tasks, but include a trip to Aran? Just not enough time then to do everything in one day.

It looks like the teams are greeting eachother at some hotel, B & B, inn.  Ireland?  None of the clothing seems to match anything we have seen.  And is that Azaria?(or Hendekea)  Seems to look different.  And in another vidcap we have Nathan laughing with a staircase behind him which looks to be similar to this scene.

An overnight wait before going to Aran?

We have the Netherlands on the 10th so perhaps the camera dude did not set his date correct?

ETA:
Two blogs mention seeing Amazing Race teams.
Thanks to our astute dectectives  (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,12521.msg233209.html#msg233209) we can narrow the date down to July 10th
First blog (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,12521.msg233185.html#msg233185):
*We just got done with a walking tour of Amsterdam. Unfortunately it was not as good as the Berlin tour but it was still very interesting. We think we saw some participants from the Amazing Race running through town with a cameraman and sound guy following close behind.
Next Blog (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://p-a-r-entesis.blogspot.com/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DViaje...continuacion%2By%2Bfin%2B%252B%2BActualizacion%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4GGIH_enUS207US208):

I get the opportunity to answer issues raised in several different posts:

1. Peach, sometimes it is 2 flights and sometimes it is 3 flights. It just depends on how many flights are available. On the AR11 flights from Miami to Quito I remember only 2 flights, one TACA and one American Airlines. There was another American flight possible, but it wasn't used.

2. GMAN, I think it is probable that tasks get completed late evening of July 9 so that the flight from Dublin to Amsterdam the morning of the 10th can be made to validate the sighting puddin mentioned.

3. On the flying time, 10 hours and 10 minutes is indeed the nonstop flight time from LAX to Dublin. However, for those going to Ireland via London Heathrow, their time in the air will be longer by 1 hour 20 minutes.

Puddin, we are dead stuck with July 10th in Amsterdam.  Remember how they described the Tour de France on the day before seeing TAR racers?  And that day before has to be July 9th based on T de F published coverage.

The only possibility is that they lost a day in their storyline of what they did in Amsterdam and that house with the hiding place.

We should re-examine that text.  I was stumped by this uber tight schedule to get to Amsterdam in time.   :groan:  I gotsomething to work out but it does not allow for any kind of over night stay before the pit stop.

And of course this shoots down getting to Vilnius before being seen in Paris.

Plus the train ride from Amsterdam means more time spent going at lest than jet speed.

Yes, Peach if they originate in the East or Midwest. However, this one originated in LAX. The arrivals into SNN are all after noon. Check the relevant threads, Speculation timelines and maybe above in Ep.1 for the specifics.

Have had any indication yet how long ep one on Nov. 4th will be?

If it is scheduled for more than one hour, 90 minutes or 2 hours, either Cold Case or Shark would have to be bumped.  With the NFL tussle between Manning and Brady probably going late, 60 Minutes probably wont start until 7:30PM.  A 90 minute ep would certainly bump one of the other shows.

In previous TARs, 8 ep ones ran for two hours (1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11) and 3 eps ran 90 minutes.  So the tradition says Nov. 4 ep one of TAR12 should be either 90 or 120 minutes.

I don't think that they would be able to include everything which we have on our plates if the show only runs 60 minutes.

I checked my tapes: the openings of the first 11 TARs which includes intros of teams and race to the airport up to the time the first planes take off runs from a minimum of 16 minutes (TAR1) to a max of 31 minutes (TAR5).  The average time for this stuff is about 20 minutes.

Which means ep one of TAR12 just about has to be at least 90 minutes.  If it is scheduled for only 60 minutes, then it looks almost certain that it has to be a TBC on the 4th.

Not too good.  Only 60 minutes.  Unless Cold Case and Shark get bumped back to 10PM start.  Doubt that, so if both Cold Case and Shark are on the schedule, that only leaves one hour for TAR12 Premiere!!!  TBC looks more and more likely to me.

The actual location for the welcome mat if it is on the Aran Island of Inishmore miight be the Stone Fort of Dun Aonghasa on a dramatic cliff edge and dates back some 2500 years and one of the most important, ancient sites in Ireland

I have found one, and only one, possible location for the bikes-on-a-wire task.  But if we had better satellite coverage I would be more sure.  I found one blog that said GE does not have high rez images here because someone found a para-military training camp in on one of the islands!

It's not 100% sure but it's the best I can find.

Judging from the changes in Jennifer's wardrobe the squence on Aran (or elsewhere in Ireland) looks to be:

1.  Bike for Two Ride - Jennifer is wearing a white windbreaker over green sweat

2.  High Wire Bike Gig - Jennifer is wearing a green sweat with the white windbreaker tied around her waist

3.  Donkey Kong - Jennifer is wearing a yellow tee with both the green sweat and white windbreaker tied around her waist.  This is also the wardrobe when she is wiping her tears on Nathan's sleeve. (Pit stop?)

It also looks as if TK and Rachel are ahead of Nathan and Jennifer since they are moving off  with the donkey as N and J are reading the clue in the BG

That must be the Aran Island of Inishmore.  That makes the ancient stone castle of Dun Aengus or Dun Aonghasa a pretty good choice for the first elimination mat to be located.  TPTB love to have the mat located in some spot with local color or importance and the castle of Dun Aengus is one of the most important ancient structure in all of Ireland.

So the scenario is now looking like:

1.  Teams arrive by vintage ragtops at the Playboy Mansion in Hollywood keeping HH and his girl friends abey.

2.  Drive to LAX and catch either the Aer Lingus flight to Dublin or British Air to London.  Then taking connecting flight to Shannon.

3.. Taxicabs to departure point in Gallway for Aran Direct Ferry ride to Aran Island of Inishmore (2 hours)

4.  Suspect teams arrive late in the day and bed down in some B&B over night.

5.  Perform tasks:

         A.    Ride bike for two from  to site for the High Wire bike event (Roadblock?)

         B.     High Wire across the inlet

         C.      Hitch up baskets on a donkey, load with peat, and drive the donkey a set distance.

6.   Proceed to the ancient stone castle of Dun Aengus, site of the first mat and first Philimination.

OK, its pretty thin, but its a start.

GMAN, the sequence looks good, but if teams are going to fly out of Ireland the monring of July 10, they must do all their tasks on the day of arrival. With the long day that time of the year in Ireland, it could have been accomplished.

OK, its pretty thin, but its a start.

The stone castle of Dun Aengus or Dun Aonghasa isn't really a castle as we know them along the Rhine, but merely a series of areas set off by rough field stone walls; (afterall the place is over 2000 years old)  the whole area covers about 40 acres.  From the view of the teams arriving at the mat, it seems to be on an area higher than the surrounding countryside.  Also if they are on the Isle of Aran (Inishmore) this would be a logical place to have the mat since TPTB like to locate the mat on a spot with local or historical significance.

As you all may recall, TPTB always hold back at least one task from the advance promos.  So it may be that the teams first have to complete some task or find some location in Dublin, Shannon, Galway etc. before heading out to the ferry house for the ride to Inishmore (2 hours).  Since the tems won't be arriving until early afternoon, thiis adds to the time line.

When the teams arrive in Inishmore it seems to be raining quite hard, Ronald and Christina are seen coming off the boat with their backpacks and wearing rain gear.  Later we have a shot of Nathan and Jennifer wearing different outfits than we see them in later (Jennifer has a red bandana on, later it is green - or are the editors doing some digital color changing on us?)  They also have their backpacks on.  Not only is it raining, but the light level seems low or later in the afternoon or early evening.

Then we have shots of at least two teams or perhaps three in a country inn or B&B.  Now if the producers follow tradition for the first ep there is always an overnight wait (tents on the ice in Iceland, for example).  So when they arrive at the Inn, they may receive numbers for departure on the next morning. (Perhaps a pony cart ride to the place to pick up the bikes built for two)

During all three tasks that we see, Nathan and Jennifer are now dressed completely differently.  It is bright and sunny with the sun seemingly coming in the direction of early morning (any help here Chateau?) and moreover none of the teams have their backpacks.  They must have  been left somewhere safe, in the Inn perhaps? The angle of the sun shown by Chateau on the map of Inishmore seems to be coming from the south or south, south east seems to indicate late morning and not late afternoon which it would have to be if this is a one day event.

I know that we have a "firm" sighting of the teams in Amsterdam on the 10th, but things do not add up for everything to be able to be accomplished on the 9th.

If we get word that the ep one will be eiher 90 or 120 minutes (as tradition calls for) then this gives more credence for an overnight wait before the three tasks we have seen are performed.

Gman, I have recanted that determination of July 10th.  Here is what they wrote (http://brokeineurope.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html) (Puddin's find)

Quote
Today we took a quick train ride to nearby Haarlem. Quick side story: Hazen borrowed a book from a hostel in Switzerland for something to read on our hikes. It was an excellent book called the "Hiding Place" written by Corrie Ten Boom. The Ten Boom family was a Christian family in Haarlem that helped countless people escape Nazi persicution. Corrie was the head of the Dutch underground and promoted passive tactics. They were eventually betrayed and sent to concentration camps where her father and sister were murdered. Side story Over. When we found out we would be in Amsterdam we decided to visit her house. We were able to enter and it is much like it was during Nazi Occupation. It is now run by a non-profit devout Christian organization. All in all it was an inspirational visit.
We just got done with a walking tour of Amsterdam. Unfortunately it was not as good as the Berlin tour but it was still very interesting. We think we saw some participants from the Amazing Race running through town with a cameraman and sound guy following close behind.

And they posted it on the 11th.  Which I had dismissed since they don't have any material in their blog that points to a day between seeing the Tour de France on the 9th and their "Today".

So, now, I believe the "Today" really was July 11th.   :groan:

Sorry for the error  :'(

Check our spoilers thread, first post, I corrected it last night making Amsterdam the 11th. It all makes sense now but did not before because we did not know what location was followed by what location. It was corrected before it happened and there is nothing to be sorry about! We try our best and worked with limited information and have been more right than wrong. Hey we are not perfect here and never claimed to be.

There might be some self-drive this leg (besides the bunny hop, I mean). The blondes are in a small store: one is holding a map of Ireland and they are...asking directions, maybe? (no sound from the clip, only voiceover). It's 75 miles from SNN to Rossaveal, the ferry port.

Puddin:  we seem to be the only ones still alive.  Did not see any new promos today, but since I was watching the Redskins get skinned by the Patriots, and the Red Sox down the Rockies, I recorded everything and will check for anything new later today.

Things are looking better for our rundown of ep one.  Always lots of questions, but since we have an extra day now, more and more things are coming together.  Tradition rules.  Which means:  at least 90 minutes (no way can they cover everything in only 60 minutes read 45 minutes) and the second day overnight wait to complete tasks on the third day should hold.

Weather conditions, clothing changes, backpacks and no backpacks hint that we have two days on the Aran island.

If they self-drive from Shannon  to Rossaveal (75 miles) that should take about at least one and a half hours and the ferry ride is two hours.  So if they arrive mid afternoon at SNN either from Dublin or London, fird cars, and get lost (sure looks that way now for one team) that would make their arrival in Aran pretty late, and too late to do everything in one day.

Isnt it inevetable that there are 2 TBC because 11 teams...that means 9 legs 8 eliminations 1 final what are the last two legs for?. I am betting on a TBC first leg but the teams are still carrying on in Ireland, simply because it is to hard as Gman said for there to be a long drive to Rossaveal and then all the tasks to be performed and for there to be a ferry ride to Aran, we will just have to see...Only 6 days to go!!!

Kiwi Jay, you are correct as far as you go. However, it needs to be taken the next step. After 8 legs you have had 8 eliminations, which is the minimum to arrive at the 3 teams for the FINALE, which would be the 9th leg. You then could have as many more TBC legs as the producers desire. With the timelines I have been doing, I believe that there are 12 legs. That means that there will be 3 optional TBCs.

Where will they be? I am pretty sure that one of them will be coming out of Alaska, where I had allowed an extra day. GMAN is convinced that the amount of material plus the team introductions overwhelms one hour for Episode 1, so that is a logical place for a second one. Another place where I had thought of and specified a REST DAY is Florence. This is the most probable arrangement of TBCs, although the Episode 1 one could have been substituted by one after Vilnius, the UNKNOWN location, or going into Osaka..

Grinwood or Greenwood? Alaska sounds like a profitable stop as it may take 2 days out there, Other Ideas: Florence and Osaka, Japan maybe?

But pardon me to mention I recall there being 11 legs from various places were does your updated 12 legs come from??

Yip thanks Puddin I have just been looking through that. Well that obviously means they are going to have to us some nifty video work to get it to 42 minutes

If this really turns out to be only a one hour program; don't blink or you will miss something (like the quick opening montages - one frame, one shot)  The intros and airport gigs average about 20 minutes.  That doesn't leave much time for the flight to Dublin, connect to Shannon, drive to the ferry port (1:30) ferry ride to Aran (2:00), long bike rides, high-wire stunt, donkey load and lead, move on to matt, confessionals, etc. Just don't see how they can do it, unless the editing is mightly fine.

Some new observations from Sunday promos (only the new stuff, but CBS is promoting the hell out of TAR12 - but they have to reach the non-CBS audience somehow; this will be hard since most print medea was at the press before the announcement was made.)

Shot of Nathan and Jennifer walking down village street (they seem to be leaving village)  It is raining They are dressed in outfit no. 2: she is wearing the Red bandana and white wind breaker; he is wearing the black windbreaker with white under arms.  Both have backpacks.  This looks to be before we see them on a hilly field with stone walls embracing.  When they are walking toward camera she says something and runs ahead.  From the way they are dressed this must be on a different day that the one they do the three tasks. Are the looking for the Inn for the overnight stay and are they lost?

In a PinP which isn't very clear, Jennifer in her green sweat shirt with the white windbreaker tied around her waist, is using a long pole to vault over a water-filled ditch.  There are people behind her, and some others across the ditch.  No idea what this is about. Don't recognize any of the people.
I just saw the tvguide post on the thread for ep two in the Netherlands.  Could this be what Jennifer is doing?  Not quite as athletic as the one shown, but it seems to match.  And makes more sense because it doesn't fit in ep one.

In the Inn where teams are greeting eachother, is that the tall, skinny grandson, Nicholas in the back?  No one else seems to  be that tall.  If this is true, than we have four teams intermixed here.

Quick shot of Jason peddling a bike with a cart in front.  Lorena is sitting in the cart holding what looks like travel instructions.  Looks like Aran but could be somewhere else in Ireland. The have their backpacks with them.

Just added a note to my post.  But this sure could be from ep two (some CBS intern will be looking for a new job again).  Also the shot of Jason and Lorena and the bike cart could be from Netherlands.  This is typical transport there.  Is CBS really trying to confuse us with shots from different eps in their promos?  If correct than Nathan and Jennifer and Jason and Lorena are safe in ep one.  And neither one is wearing a helmut!

In the video posted by Peach in media, I got to see that the plane with the colorful tail is indeed British Airways.

So we have our two flights!  :yess:

I guess there could be another.  But two will do.

And the promo cap that Slowhatch ID'd as Shannon Airport shows that it is raining there.  I think Weather Underghround has the rain starting at 11:30 am and going on into the night.

Yes, we picked up the two flights early on: Aer Lingus and British Airways.

What was the Underground weather report for July 10 for Aran Islands or Galway?

just sticking these here

Puddin, the fifth one down looks like it is a shot of Dun Aengus, my suggestion for first mat stop.  If it is by the wall on the left, the angle would be back across the fields which look rocky.

I still don't think its Dun Aengus for the mat Gman   :neener:
I mean I'm sure we will see it but not the mat.

My vote for the MAT is going to the Dun Arann Heritage Park:

Quote
At the highest point of the Island the visitor can experience life as it was in bygone days with a unique portrayal of the crafts and traditional lifestyle of yesteryear.

There is bound to be a front side somewhere....

IF the mat location is indeed at some cottage on Inishmore, Aran, it must have some signiificance and there is not too much of significance on Aran outside of Dun Aengus and the Black Fortress.  But, the documentary film made by Robert Flarhety in 1934 (I think) "Man of Aran" is a local legend known simpley as "The Film".  And the cottage of the Man of Aran may be the spot.  I don't know how to find such cottage but it may exist and have a local name attached to it.  Worth a try, what?

Check Google and there is a Bed and Breakfast in Kilronan known as The Man of Aran Cottage It is a thatched cottage built in 1934 for the filming of The Man of Aran.  Not too good pictures, but this might be the spot.

  Good stuff, puddin.... but, the pix of Phil is very interesting.   :groan:  If this is the Irish pitstop, then I don't think Inis Mor has mountains that large.   :(   This may be crazy, but what if the racers DO go to Inis Mor (maybe for the jetlag rest period, and a small task) and return to Ireland proper to a place like Connemara or The Burren (which has scenery similar to the promo) for the pitstop.  This makes sense as they wouldn't have to wait for the ferry to leave Ireland for Leg 2.   :umn:   OK, continue to discuss this among yourselves...   ;)

well...if you mean the "Island of Ireland", then yes, but not the other Aran Islands.   ;D  This leg reminds me of the Perth leg a few seasons ago.  The recers then spent only a short time on the island only to return back to Perth for the pitstop.  This leg may be the similar.     Or maybe not.  :rotf:

Oh wait, didn't you find the pitstop rest area (some hostel on Inis Mor)?  That blows that theory if true.  :groan:

EXACTLY! Thats why we cant find the roof! It does look like one of the other islands!!

well...if you mean the "Island of Ireland", then yes, but not the other Aran Islands.   ;D  This leg reminds me of the Perth leg a few seasons ago.  The recers then spent only a short time on the island only to return back to Perth for the pitstop.  This leg may be the similar.     Or maybe not.  :rotf:

Oh wait, didn't you find the pitstop rest area (some hostel on Inis Mor)?  That blows that theory if true.  :groan:
No we think the teams slept at the Hostel Boingo -- now I'm looking at the Cliffs of Moher. We do see Mercedes oh whatever they are at the pitstop after all so it cant be the islands  :lol3:

So maybe just the Hostel/bikes are Aran islands then they drive back in Ireland and we hear Lorena yelling at Jason that they are not suppose to go to Galway but the opposite way.

My Ghad!  Trips to and from the Aran Islands in the rain; overnight and then back to Ireland. And all of this in only 44 minutes!

From the vidcaps posted on the TAR12 Spoiler threat (should be in Ep 2 thread)  Everyone is accounted for except TK and Rachel and Ari and Staella.  Looks like Ari and Staella may be the first ones to go.

The closest I can get to the background building (horizontal stripes) is Fox Plaza (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=foxplaza-losangeles-ca-usa) (Nakatomi Tower  ;D) in Century City and Citigroup Center (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=citigroupcenter-losangeles-ca-usa) downtown. They are the  RIGGERS  (http://www.branament.com/) probably for the bike highwire task!

I've been looking for these guys for a week!  Look under their photos and you can see some of their previous TAR work...

I knew they had to bring this task with them because I couldn't find anything remotely similar in the UK at all...

I've been lurking for ages and finally I am going to post!!! ^^ As much as I want Ari & Staella to go there's a bigger chance that the sisters might go home first due to their absence in the previews. Ari & Staella can be seen in Ireland, the sisters? nope!!! Well, I hope I'm wrong because I always root for a female team to win!!!

Puddin!!! thanks for replying! I know in TAR, absence is a good thing but not usually in the 1st episode. But I hope I'm really wrong because I like the sisters!!! I can still remember in TAR6, they focused Avi & Joe and limited the previews for Gus & Hera, and the former was eliminated first. I think places 10 & 11 will be between Ari & Staella and the sisters.

With the possibility the guys running the site were testing things
out, I noticed one of the teams was blacked out...and no, I'm not
joking here. Then I decided to refresh the page 5 seconds later, and
then they weren't blacked out anymore. Is it possible they could be
the first ones eliminated from the race? If this is true, it's going
to make me angry seeing I was spoiled too early.

Well, I'll tell you right now, here's the team it was they temporarily
had blacked out: Ari and Staella

If you look at the preview vidcaps for Ep 2 you will see that everyone is accounted for except for Ari and Staella.  So the conclusion must be that they are eliminated in Ep 1 since there are no NELs this year.

Actually the sisters are seen in various situations in Ireland: on the bikes built for two, on the high wire roadblock and with the donkey.

On the other hand they appear in the Ep 2 preview vidcaps, but Ari and Staella are nowhere to be seen in The Netherlands.

Yea there are no vid caps of the sisters doing the roadblock, but i was watching one of the previews and the sisters are shown doing the roadblock and one of them yells "This is what i'm talking about"!

Also i dont know if it was corrected but on the first page, that picture labeled Julia and Mariana on the bikes its um Ari and Staella.

From this article (http://www.bostonherald.com/entertainment/television/reviews/view.bg?articleid=1041958)~

*The start from the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles is one massive pileup of players and cars, enlivened when half the teams end up speeding the wrong way. But being first at the airport doesn’t mean being first off the ground. As this episode proves, so much of the “Race” can fall on sheer chance.

*The stress of the competition heightens existing tensions in some couples - as with dating duo Nathan and Jennifer, who turn on each other with numbing frequency, and draws out devotion in others, such as 58-year-old father Ronald and his daughter Christina. “The Amazing Race” doubles as travelogue and psychology test - asses be damned.

*In the debut, the contestants jet to Ireland, where they must bike across a high wire over a 200-foot drop above the Atlantic Ocean. The stunt seems insanely dangerous, yet each team checks its fears and attacks it with gusto.

*In the climactic showdown of the 12th season opener --the 11 teams are forced to pick donkeys to carry peat to a checkpoint.
It doesn’t sound funny on paper, but it’s hysterical on video.
This hack can’t attest to whether donkeys have souls, as one contestant says, but they definitely have personalities - and they seem to be excellent judges of character.
A couple refuse to budge no matter how much pleading, pushing and pulling from the contestants.
But “The Amazing Race” is more than just watching asses, four-legged or otherwise, behave badly.

Those wishing to see some of Ireland that will apparently not be on AR12 can watch Your Travel Guide, on at 1130am to 1200pm today on the Travel Channel, featuring DUBLIN today on a premiere show.

From this article (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07306/829654-237.stm)~

*Among the obstacles teams faces: each other and a donkey. Nathan, who once cheated on boyfriend Jen, makes Jen upset by complaining about her slow running speed, saying "every other girl..."
"Don't compare me to other girls!" Jen exclaims.
Later in Sunday's premiere, Nate has a similar effect on a donkey.

*Mean, snarky Ari also has a tiff with another donkey, saying, "If you make me lose this, I'm gonna cut you up and eat you."

More from this article (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2007/11/02/2007-11-02_amazing_race_continues_to_travel_well.html)~

* At the start, the dynamics tend to fall into familiar refrains: guys who won't stop and ask for directions, young women who intend to flirt their way to the front, and teams that steal other teams' taxicabs-
*If they'd paid attention to other seasons of this show, they'd know that wrong turns can kill you, flirting doesn't work in cold rainy climates, and, as on "My Name Is Earl," karma has a way of leveling the playing field.
*One team, two ministers married to each other, roam the Irish countryside remarking on the beauty of God's landscapes - and they're lesbians.

One of the articles linked to our site refers to the fact that starting in the lead group intended to arrive first does not always result that way. I interpret that as meaning that the British Airways flights either LAX to Heathrow or Heathrow to Shannon is somehow delayed and the teams that were on it landed after teams going Aer Lingus LAX to Dublin and Dublin to Shannon.

Note the yellow and red sticker in the windscreen of the car in the second picture.  This is the same as the one seen in the vehicle behind both the ministers and Ari and Staella when they seem to be arriving at the pit stop and welcome mat.  Do they drive themselves to this location at the end of the ep?

Right.  I still don't have them all straight in my mind.  The scene I'm talking about are the ones when they seem to be by the same type of stone wall as we see at the mat.  But again looking at the vidcaps (I don't have the full action video) there may be a donkey between TK and the two cars. It just doesn't look like it is out in the wild by the roaring sea.

I too have been in Ireland for ages looking for that blasted pitstop!

I wonder if this would be a possibility?

It is called "Dan O'Hara's Homestead" and is part of the  Connemara Heritage Center (http://www.connemaraheritage.com/index.htm)--wouldn't be too far from Galway...
and they have accomodation on site!

Peach, that's looking good.  And fits the scheme of things in which TAR likes to have some local importance to the spot they pick for the mat and philimination.  I have been looking at places on the Dingle Peninsula but you beat me to Connemara.

And it looks like a place you can drive to, which isn't the case in Aran where automobiles are discouraged, and I can't see 11 SUVs roaring around that landscape.

And according to this article from Trip Advisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g211883-d215839-r6925934-Connemara_Heritage_and_History_Centre-Clifden_Connemara_County_Galway_Western_Ireland.html) it is up a mountain...

Quote
The Heritage Centre offers a brief film and a small museum, but by far the BEST part of the experience is the tour that you get with "Martin" who drives you up the side of the mountain to an authentically restored Irish cottage. Along the way he explains a number of things including how/why turf was harvested for fuel, etc. He talks about the history of the Celts, the Famine, the Land Laws, etc. Inside the cottage a turf fire burns as Martin gives you a fascinating review of Irish history. He breaks into a capella song and offers everyone a shot of the homemade poteen. It's a great tour and well worth your time (about an hour). Appropriate for all ages.

With less than 28 hours to go the TAR detectives are zeroing in!

And the Connemara area is also known for its peat bogs!

But as things get clearer, I'm getting foggier!

It looks now like the high-wire, and the donkey stunt, and the final mat all or on  Ireland proper, the Dingle Peninsula Connemara area.  That leaves the bike for two; which seems to be on the same day as the rest as the teams are wearing the same clothing in all four spots.

Now the question is why did they go to Aran?  What did they do there?  And the weather was raining all the time.  (Sunny the next day) Teams wouldn't just go there for an overnight stay and then return to Ireland by ferry again in the morning.  Or did they?

Do they drive to the ferry terminal for Aran (Rossaveel) , leave their SUVs in a park spot, take the ferry to Aran, do something, (rent bikes and ride and find the guest house and get a leave time for the next morning, bike back (some teams still have their rain gear on, but it is now sunny) and  take the ferry back to Rossaveel and  pickup their SUV's and drive off to the roadblock or wherever?  Connemara Heritage center is not to far from Rossaveel.

If the Roadblock and Donkey task and the pit stop are all together and reached by driving the SUV they wouldn't be together on Aran.  Note the trees by the cars as they drive in the country.  Can't find trees on Aran.

And then we have the scene of TK and Rachel, and the ministers arriving at the pit stop with the same SUV's with the TAR sticker on the windscreen in the background.  And Puddin says they drive to the pit stop, and the high wire and donkey thing.

I think they fly to Shannon --ferry to Aran -- grab a clue in the rocks maybe for times? --spend a night the Hostels --ferry back --drive to Connemara  where they do the High wire then donkeys. There are donkeys and cars at the pitstop see --

I definitely think the bikes and the highwire are in the Aran's....  nope!

But how about this? We think this picture is arriving at the Pitstop--and there is a donkey behind TK...

Dan O'Hara's is a working farm and we know the donkeys have to be taken to the "entrance to a farm".  And based on one photo from upstream--they have donkeys at this farm.

So what about if the donkey task occurs just before the Pitstop? That might give us the idea that the donkeys are the downfall of the last place teams...

:umn:  Now that peach has nailed the Irish pitstop, let's move on to the remaining unknown vidcaps.

Here's my best guess as to where the black racers are going...  This appears to be the Aran Ferry dock in Rossaveal (Connemara).  The racers appear to be heading down the pier towards the Aran ferry, and the building in the background may be the one labeled as "Pier Office",  Note the street running on the left and the low wall.  They probably parked the SUVs in the Car Park and ran to the pier to catch the ferry to Inis Mor.      OK, bash away.   :knuckles:

:umn:  Edited to add: After further examination I believe the racers now appear to be running away from the ferry on the Rossaveal dock.  This means that they are returning from Inis Mor and heading for other tasks in Connemara.

But seriously...the donkeys lead up to the farm, the zipline leads to the donkeys, and what's left for Inis Mor? Even the tandem bike scenery doesn't look like the island. The only similar things are the caps of the teams walking in the rain past stone walls.  ???

We don't need another location to confuse things--but these limestone cliffs could be in the Burren (http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/the_burren/burren_karst.htm) somewhere too.
(http://aycu10.webshots.com/image/32969/2002019058052233676_rs.jpg) (http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2002019058052233676)

IMO, TPTB are going to want to have the teams start off with a bang.... so I think the highwire act comes first.

Shannon to the Burren would be on the way to the Ferry.

Do highwire task. Drive to Ferry.

Then bicycle tasks/Hostel/what else? (Detour) on Aran

Then next morning go to Dan O'Hara's for the donkey task/Pitstop.

Maybe??

No peach you can clearly see the donkeys after the highwire
And I've been to the Burrens and yes it does look the same. ..

oh yeah...now I remember--we saw them loading up the donkeys next to the highwire, didn't we?

So is the highwire in Connemara then--if we are convinced that the donkeys are at the Pitstop which they seem to be...

I'm not convinced that they have to bring the donkeys to the pitstop peach but am also convinced that the High-Wire and donkey task are not on the Aran islands rather they just do the bikes & rock thing in Aran only --
Clifden is 5 miles from Connemara so I've been looking around there.

Heres what looks like Lorena & Jason getting their clue after the donkeys --

I agree, the teams get the final clue after the donkey task and then drive to the pitstop in the Connemara Heritage Center area.  You see the SUVs lined up by the path that leads to the mat.  The donkey seen behind TK and Rachel is just some local color.

In the Connemara and Dingle Penisnsula areas there are many possible locations along the cliffs for the high-wire act.  Which leads to the Donkey bit.  The one unknown now seems to be where does the bike for two task takes place.  Aran or Connemara?

So in brief Ep One may look like this:

Introduction of the teams as the arrive at the Playboy Mansion, short bios, etc.

Phil greets them and gives the traditional: "The world is waiting for you, good luck, travel safe.....go"

Teams find clues and proceed to Los Angeles Airport (LAX)  (Some teams get lost and miss the early British Air Flight).  Two flights are available (1) British Air to Shannon via Heathrow, and (2) Aer Lingus to Shannon via Dublin.

On arrival in Shannon, teams pick up clue on windscreen of SUVs.  Must drive to Rossaveel, leave SUV in car Park and get ferry to Aran Island of Inishmore.

Upon arrival must do some task or another which leads them to a Hostel to spend the night.  Upon arrival they receive number for the time they can leave the next morning.  During this day it is raining pretty bad.

On the morning of the next day, they receive clue to find a bike and ride along the shore to some location (perhaps the Dun Aengus area).  Here they are told to return to the ferry and return to Rossaveel.  Pick up their SUV and drive north to the Connemara area on the Dingle Peninsula.  Arriving wherever they find their first roadblock:  ride a bike across an inlet of the sea from cliff to cliff with the teammate suspended below the bike.

Upon completion of the task the find a clue box directing them to find a donkey, load it with baskets then load the baskets with x pounds of peat and proceed x miles to a spot at which they will receive the last clue which will direct them to the Connemara Heritage Center and the farm house.  Off they go in their SUV again and finally arrive at the mat just in time to hear Phil say: "I'm sorry, but you are the last team to arrive and you have been eliminated."

So endth Episode Number One.

Is that laminated Gman!? Nicely Done! and I'm not going to kill myself looking for those darn cliffs -- it is what it is and we know how it ends, Ari & Staella eliminated right? and my guess is TK & Rachel first followed by the Goths, Nathan & Jenny -- etc  So onto ummmm India to look for Yogi  :jumpy:

Okay you GE boys---

My theory is that the cliffs (highwire task) will fall somewhere near the areas marked in red.

U F O?

But looking at that video clip for the first time, I have to adjust my scenario for Ep One.  In one shot we see TK and Rachel riding on their bicycle built for two across the moor and arrive at the clue box which I think must be for the roadblock.  It doesn't look like Aran since there are hills in the background which weren't seen on Aran.  So it looks like they may just return to the ferry after their over night on Inishmore.

*It's off to a flying start. The truly nasty couples fare none too well, and the benign, easy-to-root-for couples lead the pack.

*The rural Ireland locations are gorgeous. For a modern, industrialized nation undergoing an economic boom, much of the countryside remains rugged and pristine, with ocean-battered cliffs and green, green meadows and fields.

*There's room, too, for a cameo by Canada: the winners of tonight's leg win a free trip to Banff, Alta. after the Race, complete with a moonlight snowshoe walk on Lake Louise.

Based on tonight's opening hour, I suspect next summer's Emmy for best reality-TV series is in the bag.

Good job Chateau!  :jumpy:

Is this the area?

Inish Bofin, located off the coast of Connemara out from Cleggan, has to be one of the most popular of all the islands for diving the Irish Atlantic coast. Stunning scenery above and below water makes for excellent memories and due to its location, its usually possible to escape any adverse winds.

Check back to reply 210, Peach found the exact shot used in ep one!  The TAR cameras shot from the same angle, just pan to the right and you would find Phil.  Even the lighting looks the same as if it the pix was lifted from the video!

Good work, now find us the mat for ep two; a little harder but I am sure you and Chateau will be able to find it before Sunday.

Good show, what.

The building in the background did turn out to be Citigroup Center; Phil was doing his standup atop the Bonaventure. A step down? TAR4 saw him a few blocks away, on top of the much-taller library tower.  ;D

The I-10/I-110 interchange that Boingo found showed up during the bunny hop; like he predicted, just stock footage. Also, a few of the teams (like the preachers) were taken by Sunset/Highland rather than Hollywood/Highland. Still haven't found the funny-looking garage.

Just some trivia I noticed while reviewing ep1: the racers are deliberately staged opposite their luggage, I guess to create an artificial "scramble" for the lens.
